We had such an amazing experience at your restaurant. The service was delightful, friendly, efficient and so accommodating to our requests. The food matched the service. Even morsel was deliciously prepared and fresh as can be. Highly recommended.

We were disappointed when they told us they have run out off bread rolls. This was on a Saturday night so most probably would be replenished only on Monday. The calamari dish had to be sent back. The calamar.i that was replaced was excellently prepared. Would definitely order that dish again

For just 89 rand, I indulged in a plate of 6 tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked prawns, bathed in a creamy garlic sauce. Alongside them were 3 plump mussels, also drenched in the same delectable sauce, served with piping hot, fresh, and delightfully crispy chips. It was a mouthwatering combination of flavors and textures that left a lasting impression. What's even more remarkable is that Ocean Basket's lunch special offerings start at an incredibly affordable 55 rand, making it accessible to a wide range of diners. Ocean Basket is the go to place for comfort food and great service. The staff is ever so welcoming, always ready to assist and greet with a smile. We were well taken care of, great job 🙂

We visited after a really long time and were very impressed by the food. Despite having loadshedding, the meals were fresh and cooked great. They only were able to serve grilled foods. The waiters were also very friendly. Will definitely be back when in the area again.

The food was fairly good - the preparer of fish must be very careful not to overcook it. The waiters weren't very attentive, especially when it came to wanting the bill which took an age to arrive. And then to bring the card machine! The restaurant was very noisy. Perhaps that can't be be helped.

Just went to have coffee yesterday at Umhlanga OB. I was surprised at the service given. I ordered a latte. It came with 2 mini square bread rolls together with coleslaw, garlic and chilli sauce. No extra charge only paid for the latte R30. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Close to the new Oceans Mall

Ocean Basket Umhlanga in Durban is a good branch. The food was fresh. Service was good. Ordered take aways to eat at our hotel and it was prepared well, fast and packed good. The overall experience was 4 Stars. If in the area and you want some decent seafood I'd recommend Ocean Basket Umhlanga. No complaints from me.

What an awesome experience we had visiting OB Umhlanga. Food was delicious, and service excellent. Out waiter checked in regularly to see whether we are OK. Even the bathrooms were excellent, very clean and wheelchair friendly (which we needed by the way). Will definitely visit again!

The food was amazing not forgetting the excellent service. Felt like home. I absolutely loved it. And that creme brulee was the best I've ever eaten. Even mum says she wants to go back for her 75th birthday. The staff is amazing as well. And we had the most amazing waiter. Thank you so much guys. Will be back soon and that's a promise

Ocean Basket never disappoints. Friendly Waitrons, promt attentive service, scrumptious well prepared and presented food. The calamari is always tender and tasty...it's the best! We tried the seafood platter for 2, with stir-fry veg...delicious!

Friday nite out with my wife thought we would give the new gateway branch a try service was good, we ordered platter for 2....was alot of food... Unfortunately the prawns weren't cooked properly and everything was like over done in butter.... Mussels weren't too grand.

First time at this branch and I’m very satisfied. The restaurant is very clean inside and we’ve received excellent service from the staff. The food came quickly and everything was perfect. Definitely one of my favourite Ocean Basket branches.

First time eating at the Umhlanga branch and was very pleased with the service from our waiter Ted. The food was prepared rather quick. The sushi was fresh which is always pleasing. The Platter for 2 is a good recommendation as you get a variety of seafoods to taste from. The only disappointment was the grilled fish ordered in our Platter which did not have a fresh taste to it - it was their catch of the day. Overall a good experience and will definitely be going back there for more

Wonderful food, great staff and chilled music on Sunday afternoon....been there numerous times and they are always consistent. Pop in for a visit.

It’s a nice restaurant that’s clean, their food is nice the staff are nice too. Well priced and the setting isn’t bad either.never been disappointed

Food standards meet. View was good from the higher elevated level. I ordered water but they recommended I try their lemonade which was refreshing and served 3 of us adequately. We all 3 ordered fish and chips half rice and half chips. Our waitress Wendy was gave good service

Been to the Gateway branch but I'm not sure why can't find it on zomato. Seafood platter for 2 is alwayz the case with my Bf and I. Delicious. Good service.

If you looking for seafood plain and simple at a great price tag, its hard to find better... exotic seafoods, look elsewhere !!, be careful of the lemon butter sauce which tends to be a bit excessive so ask for less, and the rest on the side !!<br/><br/>All in all, dont dissapoint on the simple seafoods

Food: I simply love the lemon sauce they cooked their fish and Prawns in. Its lips smacking. Really. I also love their pink lemonade jugs.. it serves about 4 glasses, so it good for a family sharing. The fish and Prawns are always fresh. And the sushi is also very good. The desserts they serve are also very tasty. I loved the Chocolate lava cake. It was decadent and a chocoholics dream come true. The Italian kisses was also very tasty. Its like small ice cream lollipops covered with chocolate. Each lollipop has its own flavour like chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon.<br/>Ambience : Its bright and welcoming. <br/>Service : Everytime I've been here the service was great. The food came on time and it was upnto standard.

I was very underwhelmed and kind of irritated with my experience tonight. Firstly- general ambience....no music and a very noisy kitchen (shouty chef).. not cool. Secondly- the waitress seemed very unsure and didn't know how to serve food. She bumped, shoved and in the end just stood there with plates until we took them from her. No friendliness or warmth. Really guys?? And lastly - I ordered sushi. It was limp and very sad. And lukewarm. The lemon butter sauce was a bowl of thick glob of.... I don't know-what. And very lastly (sorry) - the wine list is awful. Half the wine isn't available and when we asked for Italian kisses no one knew of their availability. <br/>Definitely won't be back but maybe a good think to take this feedback and possibly act on it? Promise I'm not a serial complainer. 🙏🏻 <br/>PS: my elderly relatives really battled with the 3 flights of stairs! 😳

I had really enjoyed my meal.

Table cloths were very dirty, luckily they brought paper sheets to cover them. Kids fish bites were more like fish biltong. Disappointing for OB...

The food is horrible. Not fresh at all. My husband was served rotten fish which had to be taken back. I would not recommend this place to anyone. <br/><br/>We were also served Sangria which tasted like water! The service is also generally bad! Avoid, avoid, avoid. Your R645 can be better utilised elsewhere.

I was disappointed with my food at ocean basket at gateway today. They're usually consistent but today not so. I felt like the seafood was not fresh or the oil used was stale. Had the seafood platter for one and wasted most of it.

The restaurant was 80% full and we were ordering a take-out sushi.<br/>We called in the order and were told it would be 20min<br/>We arrived after 45min and when we got there they were still busy with the hand rolls, so the two of us decided to have a drink.<br/>The waiter was cordial but not friendly.<br/>After another 15min our order was ready.<br/>We had hand rolls salmon and prawn<br/>Avocado maki <br/>Prawn California rolls <br/>Salmon California rolls <br/>Salmon fashion sandwiches<br/>Prawn fashion sandwiches <br/>Rainbow roll salmon<br/>Tempura roll prawn<br/>I would expect a burst of contrasting flavours, however everything tasted pretty bland and everything tasted the same<br/>Quite a let down for our games evening back at home and a very definite thumbs down from 6 people.

I went on a vacation recently to Durban and as we all know, we eat quite a bit when on holiday. As you would expect, everyone by the coast is laid back and attentive to your needs. Besides the gorgeous views in Durban, their service is brilliant. I may have just gotten lucky, but I was utterly impressed with this Ocean Basket's service.<br/><br/>They seated us promptly, treated us like we were their most prestigious customers and greeted us with a smile the entire night. As I was on vacation, I indulged a little by trying their California Iced Tea. Not only is the subtle contrasts between the aqua hues absolutely beautiful, but the taste is rather mouthwatering (that is if you like the taste of tequila).<br/><br/>I always try seafood when at the coast because it just tastes fresher and seafood just compliments the salty air. I tried one of their sushi platters which comes with a dollop of caviar. It was flavourful and presented superbly. My main course was called the 'Pick of the Sea'. It had prawns, calamari, hake and their buttery rice. It was basically cholesterol on a plate, but hey, I was allowed to let loose a bit whilst on my vacation.<br/><br/>

What is happening to all the restaurants that used to be good in Durban.<br/>There is no more decent restaurants.<br/>The food at this place was not just not good, Roy our waiter was a nice guy and helpful but not even him and his upbeat nature could not hide the pathetic food. The fish was just cooked half done and then some yellow gloop was gooied and basted over the fish, just like artificial coloring and baking. Disgusting in other words, I don't know which dignified human can eat this. Don't go there

There's nothing better than fresh seafood. Ocean basket umhlanga does not disappoint. On a recent trip there I tried the new Mediterranean style dorado and it was delicious. If your hungry and looking for a hunger buster try the platter for one. Calamari, line fish, prawns, muscles and chips. The line fish I had was angel fish which was cooked perfectly to melt-in-your-mouth standards. <br/>The service was cooked and I found the prices to be quite reasonable.

When coming to Umhlanga and you want good quality food at prices that are according to the rest of South Africa this is the one place you can rely on for good quality good service and value for money love there chessy prawn starter and always make a great haloumi prawn curry yummy.
