Review Eaglevlei - Stellenbosch

Great venue for kids and adults. The play area is massive with lots of play area for toddlers and older kids. There is good space and plenty of seating, so you are not bumping into others. The food is fantastic, with great prices.

Contemporary estate experience for the whole family. Superb undercover children's activity area that boasts massive jungle gym and other fun things to keep young folk happy and safe from the elements. Well priced and varied menu. Great quality. Ribs a winner. Next time; I'll try the eisbein. Will definetly return with the crowd of house friends.

Good experience it has been. The play park is just what any parent would like in a wine estate. . .

Such a great venue. Went for Sunday buffet and the food along with the setting was just brilliant

We wanted a family venue to celebrate my mother and wife's birthday. I was a bit concerned about some bad reviews and contacted Amanda. She assured me that the day will be perfect. We can only say from the bottom of our hearts, thank you Amanda and Caroline. You hit this one out of the park! We as a family had an fantastic day, you made it very special. The kids enjoyed the play park, we loved the venue and the service and food was fantastic. Keep up the good work!

The kids love it there food was amazing

A fantastic venue to hold an event. Even though they have back to back events most of the time, they are on-time, accommodating and willing to do what it takes to make sure the event is amazing. From the set up to the food, everything was perfect. A huge thank you to Amanda for making it happen - and even dealing with double the expected numbers without a hitch. Thank you and we hope to see you again! (Reeds Motor Group)

Great venue, just a pity they don't have outside play area for kids which is close to the tables. The service was extremely slow. Took forever to get waiter to order more drinks. The food took 40 minutes and then only half the table's food came and we waited another 20 minutes for the pizzas to come. We asked for some salad dressing for the salad and it was never brought. The pizzas were good in terms of good pizza base and great taste but for the price you pay to get barely any toppings..... disappointment.

Drove very far for a breakfast. Just to stop in front of a closed gate. Please update your details on here,as we saw you are only open on Friday,Saturdag and Sunday.

Awesome experience... Always lovely to be hear.. Probably my fifth time and it was a pleasure to work with them to arrange a 60th lunch for 20 people... Will be returning and will be pleased to recommend

This was very dissapointing to say the least. It was a birthday celebration. 3 people on our table ordered the Camembert Starter only to be told they have run out of this particular starter. The cheese platter starter was also ordered and the kitchen was again unable to serve it. The Lamb Shank was so small that the gentleman was left hungry and could have eaten a second shank. Now it came to Desert time. The Chocolate cigars was ordered and yet AGAIN the waiter came back saying this desert was finished. It appears that Eaglevlei are intent on having their tables fully booked but cannot cater for the amount of food ordered. Sorry but we will not be again.

Mediocre food. Had the Chicken Liver. Was expecting so much more. A well cleaned liver drenched in flower with paprika, cumin, white pepper, cayenne pepper etc. shallow fried in butter with olive olive oil ets. put on a bed of salads but that was not found.... chicken liver found outside on your grass in a pool of brown "smoor". Decided to have a Gourmet Burger..... salad was stunning with amazing dressing, Burger was lost!!!!! Lost totally. Patty was over done with a process/frozen after taste. Had only the top burger bun, bottom was used probably for something else. Gourmet "Salad" was the best?!?!?!? Was wanting to come over a year now, but definitely the last!

Stay away! We were throwing up and had diarrhea for hours into the night after having lunch here. It is pathetic that you call yourself a restaurant but charge R175 for a buffet that makes people sick when they get home. I had the basil penne, which I have to say was way too rich but I didn't expect to get FOOD POISONING from it. What kind of health and sanitary standards do you maintain at this restaurant? Pathetic.

Such a great place to bring kids but the service is terrible, we had a wine tasting and the staff were extremely unfriendly and did not look happy to be serving us! Will not be back!

More for the kiddies. Restaurant area large and the food is mass produced as well. Wines are well priced. To be honest: I did not enjoy my R150 meal of ribs and steak. Dry and small portions. My wife had the Chicken gordon blue which was fantastic. Perhaps it was my off day. I will not come again.

Heard their was a festival so we went. Nice stalls and stuff. The restaurant was "fully booked" with no people in sight. Ghosts maybe? We bought a bottle of wine and sat outside. The big tent with the movie screen was dirty from a previous function but open to the public!? Such a great place just run badly.

Place has changed allot.for the bad.<br/>It used to be a small and inviting place with a good menu.<br/>Now its changed into a kids playpen where the noise is so bad you can't have a conversation.<br/>The waiting staff was unfriendly and unhelpful.<br/>Food was not bad but they got the order wrong and tried to convince us that it was right.<br/>Would not go there again.im a fan of any place with a good vibe and music and good food.this place use to have all of that but these days they have none

Guys!!! You have a winning recipe here!! Why oh why would you hire incompetent people running this? I ordered eisbein and my wife the chicken cordon bleu and both were as dry as dust... Way over cooked. Of my meal i could eat less than 1/4 as the meat and skin was totally inedible. The waiter had a strong smell on him not the type you would want to serve your customers... Been there done that.... Will NOT buy the t-shirt!😡

Great play area for kids but terrible food and service. If I ever go back again I would just have a drink and let the kids play. Very disappointed.
Juanita Rene Stears
Nice place, lots of potential! Food was good, service was good as well, have no complaints! Prices is reasonable! I like this venue! Nice for a Sunday afternoon lunch! Will be back for more

Mojo jam jar is a must. Food is great and chocolate cigars for dessert is even better. The vibe is fantastic and the staff is kind and friendly.
Terri Jacobs
Poor service. Food is average except the ribs, the ribs are excellent! Malva pudding comes with what seems like a plastic custard layer. Was not all that pleasant.

We had my mom's 80th birthday at Eaglevlei on Saturday 30th Jan 2016. What a great experience, great service, good food and a fantastic atmosphere.Thank you Amanda Goosen and your team i will certainly return

We went for lunch to EagleVlei and was duly impressed with the kiddies sectioned that kept our group's 3 kids well entertained. The restaurant however was extremely disappointed. We were told whole ordering that they were out of spare ribs and we opted for the prime rim and loin chops. After waiting for more than anhour for our food, the waitress informed us that they cannot give us the chops as it smelt off. This they subsequently discovered after grilling it. The prime rib was of exceptional low quality and the pepper sauce was not fit for human consumption. When we complained to the manager we were informed that the chef 'does his own thing' and he was powerless to do anything but urged us to write a letter of complaint. Unbelievable experience. Go for the kids Venue but stay away from the restaurant!

R165pp for a delicious Sunday buffet. Starters include salads, bread & pate, pasta & quiche. Mains were gammom, roast lamb (melt in the mouth soft), roast veg, roast potatoes, spinach & feta, savoury rice & butternut. Desserts were malva pudding & custard, berry chesecake, sago pudding & choc mousse cake. The a la carte menu is extensive, more than adequate & well priced. Large kiddies menu, beers on tap and even slushies for kids. Fabulous family outing in tge vineyards!

Beautiful venue and surroundings. Their wine is fantastic, but our food was average and the service was exceptionally slow. The freshly baked bread, however, was divine. I was also surprised by the new play area. I was under the impression that play areas at restaurants are provided as a courtesy and free of charge, but unfortunately this one is R80 per child. It looks fantastic though but comes with a price.

A very disappointing experience.   A friend turned up for a mid-morning break.   Between us we ordered a coffee, a pot of tea, a muffin and a scone.   The coffee came, not very hot.  the tea came with HOT??? milk????.  Then we were told they did not have either a scone or a muffin.  This was at 10AM on a Public Holiday morning, when you would have thought they would be geared up for an influx of people and be ready to serve what was offered on their menu.Won't be going back and won't be advising friends to visit either.   Can't give a proper rating because there is no 0

We visited Eaglevlei with a group of friends on a very hot day. We ordered milkshakes to drink which were good.<br/><br/>For mains I had the lamb shank. Usually lamb shanks are cooked in a red wine sauce. This one was however just roasted in spices. It was absolutely delicious though and fell off the bone easily. Also reasonably priced at R130. <br/><br/>Wife had the rump which was good but a.bit cold. Jayda had the topless burger which looked really good and serious value for money at 79 rand. It's served with chips and salad.<br/><br/>I have read a few bad reviews about Eaglevlei but I am very satisfied with the food. I'd give service 2.5/5. Food and pricing will ensure I return though. Have to try monster Friday.

Had my sisters kitchen tea at Eaglevlei this weekend , to add it is not the first time I had a function there and I would without a doubt recommend Eaglevlei to many , even if it is only for a fine wine tasting or even something to eat. All staff at Eaglevlei jumped to accommodate us and saw to our every need , would like to thank the management staff , the chef and the waiters for helping us make the day possible is such a short amount of time.

Quite a disappointing experience. Since we had vouchers from the Entertainer app, we assumed that Eaglevlei would be of the same standard as the other restaurants on the app. We weren't expecting a fine dining experience at all, but simply a nice meal and cosy vibe. The general look of the building is simple and modern, but seriously lacking any type of atmosphere. I ordered a baked Camembert starter which was okay, followed by the line fish (ling) which was average, not great. Fair enough, the food is well priced- but I still think one can get better for the same price. Hopefully they make a few changes after these reviews, as I think that Eaglevlei has a lot of potential.ROBERT ELLIS

Fantastic family restaurant the buffet my friend had was tasty steaks were excellent fish portion a tad on the small side. Service amazing with a magnificent view

The whole experience was average for us. The vibe when we got there was very underwhelming and quiet, and I think some decent background music and better views of the surroundings would have gone a long way to helping things out and then the accompanying food and service wasn't particularly good. For starter I had the Baked Camembert which was good but pretty standard. We also ordered a bottle of Chardonnay that was very poor. Then for mains I had the chicken quiche and this was nothing special too, pretty plain and just like something you can get at a Spar. This was really a simple yet average dining experience. We used our entertainer voucher to get two main meals for the price of one, but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant if you are looking for anything special. Trinka Mynhardt

Good veneu with great live sport tents and big screen TV's. Family orientated wine farm, and the food we had was great tasting as well. Will definitely recommend the Eisbein. It is huge, crackling fat, and very hot English mustard with sauerkraut and mash.. Amazing! Will go back for that alone..
Sharon Malan
Loved the place!! Used our entertainer book vouchers for the first time hassle free and a bargain!!! 2 wine tastings for the price of one and then 2 mains for the price if one! Hubby's rump was divine but the Eisbein was the MEAL of the day....super service, great wine and comfy lounge chairs to wait in the sun for your food!!! Really good value for money and awesome event....oh and then there was deep fried Nougat!!!!!!!!!!!!! (But my phone was dead then). Kiddies area...great for parents as well...and area far enough not to bother other diners 😃 we'll be back!!!!!!

We were here 3 times and love this restaurant. They have a great venue for functions, but the restaurant is also great for lunch or dinner.<br/><br/>They also have a huge play area for kiddies.<br/><br/>In winter they have a prime spot in front of the fire<br/>Place - but be sure to book for this as everyone would prefer this in this cold winter weather.<br/><br/>The butternut soup was so delicious and the chicken Gordon bleu was one of the bests I ever had.<br/><br/>The food is also very reasonable - between R50 and R140 for mains. And their cab sauv is very good.

I went to Eaglevlei for lunch, what a disappointment it was. Service are just terrible! Nobody let you feel welcome! Cold and some of the patio heaters was out of gas! We had the buffet, starters was very average, bread but no butter? On request they said that they wait for the butter! Went back twice needless to say i had the bread without butter! The rest of the food was very average, its very similar to the hotfoods at a spar supermarket! I think that out local spar offers better food! Definitely not value for money!

We stopped here to grab a bite after a cycle, looks great and in a nice setting. They look like they cater well for families with children, not your traditional, tranquil wine farm vibe. They had a well-priced menu with a lot "pubby" style items, and a good drink selection - I had a glass of their Eaglevlei house red for R19 which was quite enjoyable!<br/>We both chose from the specials, my boyfriend had the ribs and chips, and I had the sirloin and chips - I'm not fussy and it takes a lot for me to send something back, which I had to do with my steak. I asked for medium yet it was done to the point if being leathery. However when it came back, it was much improved :) Furthermore, the service was slow, and not the friendliest.<br/><br/>There's a very disappointing deli and the wine tasting, which is at the back of it, looks quite uninviting and lacking some atmosphere.<br/>It's ok, but won't rush back.

Despite my better judgement and the fact we had a voucher we decided to try this place out. Looking for the wine tasting and couldn't find it due to poor signage. Could find the toilet no problem. What ticked me off was that I stood in the "lobby" for 5 minutes without so much of a greeting. When I finally asked it was informed that the wine tasting is behind the deli. The young lady didn't really know or explain the wines nor really offer any advice. When we commented that one of the wines tasted like sour apple, she replied with "a lot of people have said that". I'll be honest, I was underwhelmed by the wines.<br/><br/>And we're moving on...<br/><br/>We decided to try out the restaurant. What I can say positive is that this wine farm does a good job of catering to families. But that's the only positive. We were asked if we wanted to make use of the buffet or off the menu. We opted for the menu as we had a voucher. We were then given one menu and a wine list. I would of expected 2 menus as there was 2 of us. We decided on the chicken and pork belly dishes. After we ordered, our waitress came back to confirm what we had ordered again. While the portion was enough, however the chicken was dry and pork belly wasn't up to standard. Half the crackling wasn't crispy and meat was a little over cooked. <br/><br/>If you are a family and just want a day out, this place is for you. Don't expect a fine dining place or where they show case their wines. <br/><br/>

It's a paradise for children or adults with children. Food quality is fair only, environment and deco are usual. Prices are very good. Overall speaking, fair enough.
Rochelle Van Niekerk
Very poor service from the waiters. They dont know their menus at all. Our waiteress thought "thermidor" was the catch of the day. Think they should all be informed at the start of their shift whats' actually happening in the rest/kitchen. We were also offered Lamb shanks which were sold out by 15h30?? Appointed supervision at the kids' play station (jungle gyms) should be compulsory.
Janine Pitzer
First of all it took about 20 minutes for someone to attend to us and nobody had even offered us a menu luckily we found a table that had some left laying there. We then asked to do the wine tasting and were told it can't really be done as it will take long because the people that do the tasting weren't there and the waiter would have to do it. We then ordered white wine wich was warm and when we asked for a cold one the waiter told us they do not have as it was Tuesday and they are closed on a Monday so its not possible and also thereafter telling us it only takes 30 minutes to chill, it was already 15:00. He then disrespectfully told us the reason for the slow and bad service was because he is alone and jumping from the bar to the floor and and and...now in my experience working both locallt and internationally, the customer should not know what the restaurant's problem is whether its staff, negligent management or lack of training. Having recently come back from abroad it is very disillusioning to experience this very poor level of service. When leaving a British family voiced their disapointment to us at the level of service, certainly not nice to hear as a South African. Will NOT be coming back soon.

On arrival, the place offers much,, sadly it grossly under delivers. Waiting for an hour for food to be delivered to the table is just the natural progression of things as we had to find our own menus while awaiting the attention of a waitress.<br/>The food itself was underwhelming, with 4 of our party of 6 rating their meals below par. Comments like bland and dry were bandied about. The chef's mantra which appears in the menu" If you stick to the rules, life will pass you by" comes back to haunt him unfortunately.Perhaps the chef needs to apply some of the rules to his meals more effectively so that life does not pass his guests by as they wait for his mediocre offerings.<br/>A separate wine tasting area would certainly have encouraged our party to stay and sample the fruit of their vines...but having to do so in the reception area of the restaurant with not enough room around the coffee table for all was not an attractive option. We left with extemely mixed feelings given that one member of our party, a 5 year old, seemed to enjoy the kids play area. The majority of us however will not be back too soon given that we don't plan to have kids in the near future.<br/>Lots of potential....tons of hard work required to make it work for us.
Stephane Favre
Average food and slow, poor and disorganized service. Over rated and won't be back soon. Their saving grace is the kids play area which is more exciting than the restaurant.

It is sad that the only memory of your restaurant I have is the after taste of paraffin that lingers with me hours after eating. You are not on my recommended list.
