TasteBud is the classic Stellenbosch lunch time eatery you can always count on.
The buffet lunch is hearty, delicious and has a wide variety of proteins (think fish cakes, curries, pies, casseroles or roasts), vegetable dishes, salads and even fruit platters and is reasonably priced.
The menu also offers a big selection.
A bit lacking on the decor and ambience side but I always return for that buffet.
Had a late breakfast here and it was great! Our waitresses were helpful and attentive. Our coffees came quickly and we got to sit by a heater with blankets, really appreciated that! The coffee that they have is called Uber Coffee and it was so nice that we had two Americanos each. For breakfast my partner had the eggs Benedict and I had Avo toast with danish feta and tomatoes on Low GI - both were tasty. They accommodate vegetarians and reduce the price when they remove meat products, big bonus for me! The decor is amazing and the prices are good. I’ve also heard that their cakes are delicious!
One of my favourite places to go for breakfast, lunch or a sneaky sweet treat. Tastebud has such a wonderful setting and the prices aren't too bad either, especially considering the quality of their food. I have never had a bad experience with their food or their service.
This place is definitely a little stellenbosch gem which everyone should give a try.
A lovely setting for brunch - under the oaks, to relax, enjoy good food and watch passers by. Great menu, with lots of options. Opted for the eggs Onassis and it was superb - and a good size portion and good price. The cappuccino was also really full of flavour and well made.
Also good friendly service! Would definitely try again.
Absolutely love Taste Bud. One of my favorite places to go if I feel like a good lunch. Their harvest table is always amazing and I have never been disappointed. Could definitely eat there every day!
I'd say one of the best breakfast/lunch places in Stellenbosch for very reasonable prices. I recommend the Moroccan Wrap, Beef Burger (I'd say the best burger I've had in a long time) and the Fresh Red ice tea. The food is spectacular. The place is owned by a chef with some French blood lineage, Michelle; she has blessed her place with some spectacular dishes that will make your mouth water. No worse than any upper class restaurants in Cape Town, will always recommend it. Very cute, very simple styling and the atmosphere is very relaxed and homie. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The best place to have lunch. As a very fussy eater-pescetarian, allergic to gluten, hippy healthy, etc.- it's very hard for me to find a place that caters to all my needs and student budget, but Taste Bud does. I always feel so welcome whenever I enter the eatery, the staff are so friendly and kind, it feels like a home away from home. You really couldn't ask for more.
PS The Harvest Table is to die for, try the quiche.
This is a wonderful little restaurant for breakfast and lunch, but I would recommend their lunch buffet specifically because the food is always fresh and there is always a selection of salads and vegetables to accompany the dishes of that particular day. Service is efficient and very friendly and if you want a quick lunch without delay, then the buffet is a great option. I recently had lunch here and ate the chicken pie which was so creamy and delicious and complimented that with some fresh green veggies. The buffet can get a bit expensive because the food is weighed in order to determine the price, so a large plate of food is costly. The food is, however, delicious and this place is great for a quick lunch or leisurely coffee and cake with friends, as they also offer a range of scrumptious treats.
Taste bud is a lovely little social spot for a delicious home made lunch or breakfast. They offer a few menu items, but I would recommend stopping by for their signature buffet lunch. You will find the tastiest cream chicken, hearty lasagne, and an assortment of healthy salads to choose from. I almost always get seconds! They also offer the freshest tea time treats, from red velvet cupcakes to decadent chocolate brownies. Prices aren't too expensive either, considering the expensive nature of the buffet concept.
Their burgers are easily amongst the best in town. The harvest table always has at least three salad options, a wide variety of warm foods, and some vegetarian options.

I had a one hour gap between two lectures and decided to go for breakfast with my mate. Tastebud is literally a 3 minute walk from campus so it seemed convenient and quick. I've learnt quickly that Stellenbosch functions on African Time and this has become clear on the visits I have made to numerous cafés in town. Tastebud was no different. It was relatively quiet for once so we didn't have to wait for a table which was a nice change. I've been to Tastebud before where it's been absolutely packed. I've tried the harvest table and also ordered lunch from the menu. I haven't been disappointed with the food so far!
On Friday, we were immediately approached and asked what we wanted to drink. Their cappuccinos are good which for me is a big achievement. But unfortunately the cup was not big enough to last me the amount of time it took our breakfast to arrive. We waited over 20 minutes and it wasn't even full and on any other day I wouldn't have been too fussed but we had a lecture to get to.
Mine came first, but they had made a mistake with my order and it had to be sent back. After another 5 minutes, the two meals we actually ordered came through. I must say it was all beautifully presented and smelt delicious. I had just enough time to snap a photo before we dug in! I had the Vineyard Breakfast which included two perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs, juicy mushrooms, plump roasted baby tomatoes and potato and corn fritters. All this an a slice of seeded toast. I wish I had more time to savour it and eat it slower than I did but I would really love to go back and have it again when I can do just that!! Despite the mix up with my order and the slow service, the food is really good, the staff are friendly and the whole environment feels laid-back and welcoming. My advise: treat your Tastebuds and given them a visit!

Taste Bud tends to be one of the more quiet weekday coffee spots in the midst of the Stellenbosch student town. The interior is surprisingly peaceful considering its busy surroundings, and offers a cosy and welcoming hideout from the bustling streets. Their menu items are generous, tasty and well-priced, and they also offer a broad variety of take-home goods such as freshly baked sweet treats and local artisanal products. When I need to arrange a quick meeting or find a quiet and friendly venue to get some work done, Taste Bud is always my port of call.
Went into stellenbosch with a few friends for a quick celebratory lunch between classes, and was truely taken aback by the quality and variety! I was incredibly impressed with the service, food and atmosphere! We had the karoo cappuccinos and I had the open style Danish ciabata with onion marmalade, bacon, avo, humus, feta and honey glazed butternut! Was to die for! The best combination of flavours out there! Thank you for a spectacular meal. We can't wait to come back and indulge once more!
Best place to go for a hearty home made harvest Buffett table meal... Dish up your food and weigh and pay off the menu , or order something off the menu. Also have delicious treats especially the cheesecake. Nice to sit outside on the Stellenbosch streets surrounded by oak trees. Service needs some work especially for customers that dish up from the buffet table. Definitely one of my go to lunch spots

I always go here for the best buffet, especially when I have a need for hearty and healthy food. Thanks so much for the yummy green beans and lasagna
Breakfast was good, suffient and well priced. And one also gets a free ice cream. Staff friendly.
I've been living in Stellenbosch three years, but sometimes you still stumble upon a gem. I absolutely love the concept of Taste. Their menu is simple and comprehensive, and the service is welcoming and efficient. They have a good selection of vegan options, and freshly baked confectionery. I will definitely visit again!
had a wonderful experience at Taste. the food was delicious and they have mouthwatering desserts. if you can’t decide on what to get on the menu, you can always enjoy the buffet.
Situated on a quiet road, with indoorseatibg, as well as on tve sidewalk. Tastefully prepared variety of meals, with well prepared coffee and tea.
Worthwhile visiting, though I missed it first occasion due to limited parking. There is a parking lot down a side street almost opposite Taste Bud.
Great vibe, delicious food and well priced.
Taste is a little resturant tucked away on the grounds of Stellenbosch, at 44 Reyneveld Street. Their breakfast menu is styled to individual taste and caters for the Vegan and banting lover.
Booking is not essential but preferred to avoid disappointment.
The staff friendly and warm to customers. The decor pleasant to the eye and the bath rooms hygienically kept and tidy.
Parking can be a big issue as it is situated on a main road, but Weekends parking is no issue. The place can be easily accessed by wheel chair. 👍👊
Very friendly, welcoming service!😁🥰
Good food.
Nice spot for breakfast, a late brunch or lunch.🤗
They have various options to satisfy that sweet tooth.😋
Came for a quick cake and coffee and was not disappointed! Nhanha, our waitress, is a delightful person and makes you feel welcome. I will definitely come back!
This has been one of my favourite places in Stellenbosch over the past 10 years. The venue and the location are absolutely stunning.
The coffee never disappoints and the food is delicious. They serve breakfast all day and all the meals on the menu are under R100.
Delicious, accessible and affordable!
most amazing carrot cake in town (stellies) and their iced coffee is for sure to die for !!
