Review Tiger’s Milk - Stellenbosch

Madhurananda Pahar
This was the first time I have been there after receiving a recommendation about this restaurant. We were 4 and looked after by a young lady called Franziska. She did a really good job. The atmosphere was very pleasant. You can bring your friends to grab a couple of pints or bring your family and kids for a nice supper. They also hold many interesting events inside the restaurant. I will definitely be back again soon.

Excellent food! Tigers milk is truly an experience not to be missed with good specials and delicious meals it is not hard to see why we come here often. The staff is friendly and helpful and the the facilities are clean and great. The food specials includes lovely burgers on mondays, with taco Tuesdays and pizza specials. The tacos are lovely it is almost always on the lunch agenda for Tuesdays. Fresh and wholesome ingredients with lazy cooked pulled pork as well as well as delicious chicken or beef options. The beer and hard drinks are great and a wide variety is offered. The vibe in the restaurant is great and it can get quite full on weekend nights. The outdoor seating areas are wonderful during the warmer summer months and the inside is beautifully decorated with old and vintage photos. Overall a lovely experience and would recommend to anyone looking for a fun night out.

After passing by Tigers Milk a lot, my wife and I finally decided to give them a try and we had a very good experience. Their service was about the fastest I have experienced in my life, every time we ordered something it was there quicker than we expected. The waiter was also very friendly and attentive. We shared a portion of nachos as well as a pizza. Both were tasty, but the nachos portion on its own would not have been enough for me. They are a bit pricey, but we were lucky to arrive there during happy hour (2 drinks for the price of 1) which includes selected house brand drinks such as their Tigers Milk Lager and Part Wolf Pilsner.

This was my first visit to Tiger's Milk and it will not be my last. The food was great, as well as original 😄 The Mac 'n Cheese burger I had was amazing!! They have both potato wedges and sweet potato fries! The pizzas looked good too. The restaurant is not child friendly (ie: no kiddies menu), but they were happy to accommodate my friends kids by splitting an adult milkshake into smaller glasses. The restaurant is big and has outside seating available. The bathrooms were clean and neat.

In our search for a sports bar to watch the ODI between the Proteas and Sri Lanka we found Tiger’s Milk. Really classy with inside, outside and bar seating. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our drinks and the food was tasty and well presented. It was a fun afternoon - although our team after started out so well had imploded towards the end. Well worth a visit.

Tiger's Milk was a wonderful experience. It's a bar with a dining area and their pan fried breakfast with a cuppacino for R50, is very popular. The decor consist of dark wood furniture, a copper pizza oven, long bar, and walls decorated with the likes of Billy Joel and his contemporaries. Our waitress, Kate, was very attentive and the breakfast was very flavourful and filling. The bathroom facilities are very nice. Tiger's Milk opens at 9 and not, 8 as advertised on their website. They have a two for one burger special throughout the week as well as a beer pong game for R95. I would recommend a visit 100%.

INCREDIBLE service at Tiger's Milk tonight. Our bubbly waitress Zoë made our entire experience enjoyable. Serviced with great recommendations, reminders of all of the wonderful specials, fast orders and regular check-ups, our dining was great from start to finish. We started off with the the Pineapple Express cocktail and then enjoyed a few Crazy Cranbuchas (Zoë's recommendation and my new favourite cocktail!). For a light snack, we ordered Party Parcels (jalapeño poppers pictured) which were incredibly tasty, spicy and crispy. A staple for a night out. For mains, we split a Cheese and Mushroom Burger and F.A.B.ulous Pizza with a side of chips and onion rings. The burger was tasty and melted in your mouth, with such a flavourful sauce. The pizza was thin-based, crispy and full of toppings. The sides were fresh, crisp and deeelicious. We look forward to returning to the Stellenbosch branch and hope to be served by the lovely Zoë again. Thank you for bringing such good energy to a fun night out!

I really enjoyed this place. I had a nice table outside with a nice breeze. The waiter was great and friendly. My burger was delicious and a good portion.

Great service from the staff at Tiger's Milk! Enjoyed the seating outside where you able to enjoy the great weather and sunlight! Burger was also awesome!!

Really nice. A pepperoni pizza was shared and enjoyed. I had the Borderline Chicken burger and sweet potato fries. Super yummy.

It's a lovely place, with great music, food and staff. I enjoyed being served by Jamie and will definitely come back again.

Highly recommended for a student budget. We got excellant value for money when we had breakfast at Tiger's Milk. A well planned business endeavor with lots of space, enough tables to keep it personal, cosy atmosfeer and friendly staff. The bar area is separate from the restaurant section. We were there in the morning just after opening time. As a visitor I don't know how it evolves through the day, but I will definitely go there again. It is close to the CBD, neighbours to Oom Sami Se Winkel and close to a service station. There are parking close by, but I can imagine this becoming a problem at peak times. It has 🚽available.

I've enjoyed the time spent there. Nice service, nice meals, warm atmosphere. I really enjoyed it.
Gideon van Niekerk
I had a Red Cappuccino as a sundowner. It is nice that it comes with honey in a sachet, which is new to me. I also tasted a baked cheesecake that friends ordered and it was delicious. This is a really large setup with many tables and also enough staff to handle a busy peak. A highly recommended branch.

Super impressed with the delicious vegan options that have been added to the menu. Not only are they delicious but they are interesting as well! Well done. Will definitely be back.

We booked a day in advance to watch the rugby semi finals and I asked, on the phone, to ensure that we would be close to a tv (so as to watch the game, obviously) and we were ensured that we would be able to. On arrival, we were seated at a high table far from the one tv and basically behind the other. When I asked the waitron if we could by any chance move to a table whose occupants hadn’t arrived yet, because we couldn’t see, I was told so rudely and with such disrespect that everyone else had also asked for the same thing and not everyone could receive the same treatment. Okay? I then went back to my table and thought that maybe we could shift the table to the side so that everyone at my table could see the tv. Again, the same waitron, said ‘as you can see, there’s a table there and so you can’t move’. Okay. Even though there was enough space next to said table. I was really looking forward to going to TM because I’ve loved it in the past. But please don’t advertise your restaurant to watch the rugby if you can’t actually see the tv. And I really think the attitude was completely unnecessary and is actually why we left. Don’t think I’ll be back if that’s the quality of service.

I had breakfast there this morning and let me tell you, terrible! I wouldn't go back if they offered me a free meal..

Empty restaurant and i get served cold food..
For this ridiculous amount of money you charge people you would at least expect the get a hot meal!

ATOMOSPHERE : Lovely, so beautiful and big. Great to come with a group of friends. I think the space is so cool

FOOD : I had the plain nachos and guilty pleasure platter and it was out of this world! You dont need to add extra chicken to the nachos, the plain ones are so tasty and filling already. The guily pleasure platter consisted of jalepeno poppers, mac bacon and cheese balls and party parcels.
Mac and cheese balls were not the best but it was still yummy and almost tasted potatoe-like.
The party parcels were bomb AF! Filled with cheese and jalepeno wrapped in phyllo - so freaking good!

**Most of the table had burgers and the remarks were that it was bland, the patties had no seasoning and despite the sauces it was still tasteless.

DRINKS : Happy hour does not include cocktails here. Only selected beer and wine.
My cocktail (summer fruit collins) was so watery really underwhelming.

Very nice setup. Ambiance really great. Very friendly staff and excellent service. Very disappointed with the food quality and price. What we paid and what we got was worlds apart. Very disappointed.

My friend ordered nachos with chicken last night and the chicken was raw. She had to go to the doctor because she got so ill, would not recommend the Stellenbosch Tiger’s Milk at all.
Amy Wardle
It has been a year since I’ve had a meal here and I was expecting the same experience. The ambience was even better than before with more people and a cozy atmosphere. The music did become a bit loud near the end of the meal but that’s expected when tables of 20 are celebrating someone’s birthday. They were short staffed due to the taxi strikes therefore everything I say may be because of this. Our waitress seemed very stressed but was still sweet and meant very well. We ordered two of the burger specials and I was so happy to order the veggie patty so I could be included. With that we took advantage of the ‘buy one get one free’ wine offers and had the sauv blanc and the merlot, which were both great choices. The burgers came really quickly and we didn’t expect that under their circumstances. Everyone enjoyed their beef burgers but maybe would’ve liked the option to choose how it was done - they all came medium rare. My veggie burger was disappointing! It was a tasteless mushy mess that I struggled to eat as it squished all over my board. I think it was maybe too thick therefore it didn’t crisp up enough. Despite that I am still very grateful for the vegetarian alternative. After our meal, we ordered two milkshakes that were stunning and the apple crumble dessert. The person with the crumble suggested that there were too many apples and not enough ice cream or crumble but it was still tasty. I did enjoy the vibe but the veggie burger really ruined my experience. For the most part they did a great job despite their lack of staff.

Besides the food, the favorite part of this restaurant is the ambience👌🏻
Nice place to relax and have a drink at the end of the day. Food is good, but is slightly overpriced for what you get.
Justin Michael Weldon
What a great meal. We landing up having the chicken wing starts which was properly the best softest wings we have ever tried. We followed up with Pork Ribs that pulled right off the bone cleanly and with ease. Ribs were all cut up already so no messy work was needed. The other half had Nachos which were lovely and cheesy. Overall great experience and great service. The food was quick and fresh.

We were a party of five and were looking for a “vibey” dinner spot. Tiger’s Milk offered good food, great vibe. Waiter was absent, but otherwise happy.

I recently went to tigers milk for the first time ever and my experience wasn’t the greatest but we still received excellent service and I was very pleased with that although my food wasn’t very good in the end due to unforeseen circumstances, the service from the waiters was great .
The unforeseen circumstance was finding a fly cooked into the cheese on the bottom layer of my nachos . The manager came to sort this matter out and removed most of it off our bill and we ended up paying for 1 item and received free coffees after our meal . Although the manager handled the problem well , I won’t return to Tigers Milk .
Hettie Blom
Not impressed- 3rd visit and won’t go again. Service is still bad and food average.. even milkshakes were so “watery” today. Thanx, but NO thanx... 😠
Linda
What a waste of money! When we ordered Black Label, it arrived being off and had a bad aftertaste. After complaining, the waiter came back saying that they have been having problems with the Black Label. Tip: Do not offer it to the customers if you know it is not up to standard. We ended up getting the Tiger’s Milk beer.

Initially, I ordered two starters, the gazpacho and grilled calamari. After a long while, the waiter came back saying that they do not have gazpacho. She offered that I order something else. I asked if I can just change my starter portion of calamari to the main portion. Her reply was that I could not; they have already prepared the food. Seriously, if the restaurant was in the wrong by not having gazpacho, surely they can try to rectify the situation by being a little bit more accommodating. I ended up adding a side salad to my starter portion of calamari, which was just a few layers of butter lettuce sprinkled with greens. On the other hand, for R69, I received about seven tubes of calamari.

On paying the bill, I asked the waiter what she billed the beer as; the Black Label or the Tiger’s Milk. She said that she charged for the Black Label, priced at R45, way more expensive than the R32 for the Tiger’s Milk that we actually had. You cannot charge a customer for something they did not even have, after you offer that the beer can be replaced without charging for the Black Label.

It did not seem as if the manager was very proactive in his restaurant. The waiter could also have had a better attitude when treating her customers.

For the second time, I felt ripped off by this branch of Tiger’s Milk. I cannot recommend this restaurant at all.

Went last night for burgers and this morning for breakfast. The burgers was tasty, batter the onion rings was fried in amazing and crunchy. They have a 2 for 1 beer, wine, cocktails and burgers special everyday 5-7. Our bill for 2 including tip was less than R150. The tigers milk draft is one of my favourites. 4/5

Now about the breakfast. I usually love their R29 breakfast that includes egg bacon tomato grilled black mushroom and ciabatta plus a cup of coffee. All for R29! Needed for broke January. But...the bacon was more fat than meat and hardly cooked properly so the fat was very noticeable. The black mushroom was the size of a button mushroom. I know one can't expect much for the amount paid but this breakfast was always so good, very disappointing this morning. My boyfriend had a kidney bean pan; he usually orders this. Today the egg was so undercooked in there, the white was translucent and looked like mucus. He sent it back. 2/5

EDIT: this past Friday dinner; parmesan flat bread to start, mushroom burgers as mains and tigers draft. Service good and quick, tummy and mind pleased. Rating changed from 3 to 4. Those onion rings, man

Food was great, but service was a bit slow & the kitchen did not have stock of a few menu items. I had ribs, but the pizzas & burgers looked really good 👍

Delicious bar food, great service, very friendly staff. Nacho's were delicious and the burgers juicy, the truffle infused aioli with the chips was the highlight.

WORST restaurant in Stellenbosch. Do not even waste your time. Service was appalling (food arrived before the drinks- which took 45 minutes). Furthermore, the short dark-headed manager was disgustingly rude and unhelpful after we had been deceived into purchasing "half price" cocktails as SPECIFIED by our waiter, only to later receive a bill with the cocktails at their full price. Upon making the issues known to the manager, our grievances were met with a smirk and patronizing comments. This condescending manner in which the manager approached the situation has, in my eyes, tarnished the name of Tigers Milk as a franchise. It saddens me as the other branches are efficient and their service greets you with a smile. No wonder why Stellenbosch Tiger's Milk has earned it's poor name and I will be sure to never return. Ultimately, Tiger's Milk Stellenbosch has failed to uphold the excellence I have received at other branches and I certainly will not be returning.

The Oreo milkshake is delicious. The bathroom is clean and the restaurant.I will suggest this for a nice dinner. The ribs is good and you have a choice between chips and salad.I choose the chips what was very good.🥗

The restaurant is quite spacious and filled with friendly staff. The menu is rather limited and its not nice experience when you chose to replace one ingredient with another and have to pay extra for it. This is what happened when we ordered the bacon, avo and feta pizza and wanted to swop the bacon with chicken. We also ordered the 200g sirloin steaks with pepper sauce and truffle infused mushroom sauce and fries as well as the 600g BBQ pork ribs. To end off I had the new york baked cheesecake with ice-cream which seemed like a popular dessert that evening. My only suggestion is to rather serve the ice-cream in a bowl.

Overall the food was tasty and our waiter was very helpful. This restaurant has potential and will definitely return to try other dishes. Kyle Trotter @sarah_babletakis

Such a lovely restaurant - great atmosphere & great vibe. Had med-well rump steak (200g, made perfectly), mushroom sauce, fries and wine. Good service too. 👍
Definitely worth it.

Tiger's Milk Restaurant and bar is a relatively new venue in Stellenbosch. It is slightly further away from the very busy restaurant centre, but this is great for parking.

They have two sections. The bar on one side and the restaurant on the other. It is really neat and the decor fitting. They also have proper cutlery.

We ordered pizza (of course) and drinks. The pizza was quite nice, just a pity about the English tomatoes...

The service was also good. All round a really good experience and worth a visit.

Always a good night Out. Our go to place when wanting a burger or pizza with a nice glass of wine. The staff are always helpful and accommodating. A good down to earth place to have a meal. No frills.
Marie-Louise Lerm
Super slow service. Waiters standing right next to our table screaming over us. Will rather go back to Hudsons next week. Better on all levels.
Mel Woudberg
Huge restaurant with a nice vibe. The menu is a bit limited. I ordered a pizza which was amazing. Evryone else's burgers look amazing as well. The service is excellent. Will definitelt be back

TLDR; there was sand in my calamari. At first I thought the rocket garnish wasn't properly washed as everything tasted like it was covered in fine dust, but I gave up when I bit into a few solid pieces of sand. I assume it's from their green sauce, or my food fell on the kitchen floor.

Without the sand my food was overpriced and mediocre at best.
Carice De Jager
Awesome atmosphere and excellent service. Their cocktails have a twist and their lamb pizza with hummus is out of this world! Will definitely be back.
Georgie Elliott
Massive restaurant with great decor, however a very limited menu and the food was quite bland and a bit disappointing. Would rather go to hudsons across the road.
Mark Hinrichsen
Great Burgers and Pizzas that were reasonably priced! Excellent variety and choices of Craft beers, The house brand Tigers Larger was very good. The service was on point and the heaters and blankets were a great idea! We will be back!
Louise Viviers
We went for a quick lunch. Place was not busy at all, but unfortunately the service was so slow. Salad was lovely. If you want a busy vibe, this is the place for you.
Shnapple
Easy setting, tasty food, friendly staff and overall great experience. Will definitely be back. Nestled quite nicely along the busy Dorp Street and fits into the atmosphere of the town.
Rita Van Eck
Tiger’s Milk is the latest addition to the Dorp Street foodie scene – one of five in the Cape (for the moment). This trendy spot offers many tables – both inside and out – for hungry students or the foodies. It’s a mix of all things young and delicious.

We went there during the Woordfees when they had an amazing burger special. You got a burger with a beef patty, crumbed chicken fillet, and a slice of bacon, with chips on the side for just R65. The tzatziki on it was sooo good. It was delicious and very well-priced!

They didn’t have their liquor license yet, which was disappointing, but then they offered us a glass of wine or beer on the house. That really turned the disappointment right around.

Service was quick and friendly and the food was incredible! Can’t wait to go back for the great food and a fun night out.
Rigard & Jeanine
Popular student hangout with average selection of no nonsense food. Nice for a casual and relaxed quick bite. Burger specials seem good deals for limited budget diners.
Carla Ewertse
I frequent Tigers Milk quite a lot and usually receive excellent service. However last night was the exception. The Stellenbosch branch doesn't currently have a liquor license so they encourage patrons to bring their own liquor. Last night we were a large group of about 16 people. We arrived with our own wine and beers. Menus were dropped on our table but no waiter was assigned to us leaving us hanging. The "host" - a petite woman with glasses and tattoos came over to us and shouted "if you're just going to sit here drinking and not order any food then you must just leave!". We were quite shocked as no waiter had come over to take our order yet and she just assumed we would just be drinking. She then walked away and for the rest of the night was not seen. When we asked the waiter behind us to take our order the waiter said No. We then were in disbelief and spoke to the other waiters and host who defended her. A waiter was eventually assigned to us. Our food bill was quite substantial. I find it in poor taste that one of the hosts assumed we wouldn't order any food and shouted at us to leave after we had just arrived. We received no apology from her at all. Treating customers poorly based on judgement is unprofessional and disrespectful, especially for a well known brand such as Tigers Milk.
Rui Burguete
Really cool trendy space in the heart of this beautiful and picturesque small town of Stellenbosch which was really, really nice. The restaurant it self was also very nice - prompt service, great burgers, calamares and other stuff in a normal ZA restaurant. We've enjoyed it quiet a lot.
Tammy Van Der Merwe
My husband and I have been twice this month, we absolutely loved our experience both time. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is stunning, a really great vibe. Both times we have had the 200g Steak each with chips, the meat was tender and cooked to our specifications both times and the chips are so good we had to order an extra portion to share on both our visits. We really can't wait to visit again!
Wilco Strydom
The house beer, Tigers Milk, is by far one of the best lagers I have ever tasted. A definite must for all beer lovers. Having recently openend in Stellenbosch, I can already tell that its going to be a favourite.
Ryan
Okay where to start from the food the the staff everything was fantastic vibe and live band. Service was spot on and very friendly!! Thy give you a free beer on arrival and food was fresh thy can do something about the chips it's very soggy. Also management not visible on floor but will def be back for more. Keep up the good work.
Christine Du Toit
Very nice atmosphere and friendly service.

The hamburgers are excellent and the chips is also very good. The presentation of the food is also good.

The menu has a good variety.
Jimmy Nicolaou
We phoned ahead to book a table as every time we drove past they were packed. They assisted us immediately. They are not licensed yet, so they offered us a complimentary drink.
We ordered a variety of dishes.
The Grilled Calamari was nice and tender.
I liked the way they served the Avo & Feta salad. Great fresh ingredients.
The fillet steak was good and prepared as ordered.
Overall a great culinary experience. We received fantastic friendly service from our waiter Ryan.
Gdgoldman
Very average and underwhelming. Side salad with meal was an insult and charging R25 for a teaspoon of sauce, a disgrace. Not recommended at all.
Shaun Vorster
Overall: Horrible experience. Great location and ambiance. But unfortunately the main course took 90 minutes, half of the ingredients were out of stock, the panicky manager was out of his league. The waitress remained professional, but she was exposed to a terrible kitchen. The food was mediocre.
Gerschel
Popped in a tigers milk Stellies, service was great and the food was amazing. We settled for ribs and a big cheese burger. The burger was very well cooked and good. Thanks for the awesome service bar man!!
Brooke
Fun night out with the family in Stellenbosch. Everyone enjoyed our food as far as I could tell, and they even had some nice vegetarian options for my friend visiting South Africa for the first time. I had the Caesar salad which was distantly sized and tasty, but a bit heavy on the dressing.
The staff was friendly, but a bit disorganized. We had to ask three different times for a side salad that was missing, but they made any correction asked for quickly. Also, since they do not have a liquor license as of yet, they gave us a complimentary drink for each person as the table.
I am sure as the weeks go by the kinks in organization will be worked out.
Debbie Pledger Yannakakis
Good food but service somewhat disorganised....opening blues? Apart from slowness one of our dishes never arrived. Observing the staff there seems to be a lack of organisation. Our drinks order was duplicated. Long time before each course. The food itself was tasty and nicely presented but lack of direction from most of the staff spoiled an otherwise good meal. Hopefully management can get its act together before the flood of students arrives later this month.
