An amazing experience in a tranquil setting!
Went to the restaurant during winter and absolutely loved the food!
My best thing though was the First Lady Chardonnay. A winner in terms of fruitiness and smoothness.
Will definitely be back during the summer to try their picnics!

Warwick deserves their profile and delivered as expected. The setting is beautiful - it’s worth booking a more private space - and the picnic food is as good as any other picnic in Cape Town. The service is also good. I’m glad I’ve ticked them off my bucket list and I’d suggest a visit.

I loved my picnic at Warwick and will definitely go back next time I’m in town.

4 good things:
1/ beautiful atmosphere - more of a mountainous view but felt nicely tucked away, lawn well-kept
2/ great food and wine - the Warwick First Lady Chardonnay is always a winner. The bread melted in my mouth, loved the beef fillet, caramelised onion jam and sweet chili and pesto cream cheese spread
3/ good service - the waitress never forgot me and was super helpful
4/ child-friendly - there’s a play fountain, lots of lawn, and jungle-gym and swings

2 bad things:
1/ all of their blankets and cushions were in the laundry and they didn’t warn me in advance. All of them. This was very disappointing as hanging out on the lawn was the main attraction for me.
2/ they have bench seating on the lawn which can get uncomfortable for long sits, but this seems to be a South African staple

Really enjoyed my experience with Warwick!
Amazing wine! My personal favorite is the first lady chardonnay.
My family and I came for the picnic. It was relaxing and a great time off from the city.
I love the idea of the picnic basket, There's lots of food in the basket to last you the whole afternoon and a great value for money.
Can't wait to go back and stock up on my Chardonnay!

We had our own little table in nature! Wine was good and platters were yummy too. Can be hard to get a nice picnic table, but worth it once you get one.

Had a picnic lunch here.
Setting is really special - picnic baskets, umbrellas, bean bags etc all laid out beautifully when you arrive.
Service is helpful but not obtrusive.
Great place to bring kids - can play in water fountains, jungle gyms, grass etc. families made to feel very welcome.
food - we had 1 gourmet basket which was all delicious, 1 vegetarian basket which was mostly very good but the tofu salad was very bland.

First thing that struck me was the gorgeous setting, it's very relaxed and casual. The picnic basket food was also lovely, great combinations of flavours.
Have been here with big groups twice now for end of year functions and absolutely loved it. Would definitely do it again

We had a really nice gourmet picknick on a beautiful sunny day at Warwick. From the arrival onwards, we were serviced fantastically and had a pleasant multi-hour culinary experience.

Food:

The gourmet basket comes with several dishes packed neatly in cardboard boxes in addition to bread and sauces. Wine has to be ordered extra. Note that you cannot do the wine tasting if you sit outside and eat your picknick.

The food itself is wonderful. It’s not your typical tiny fine-dining dishes but reasonable amount and will definitely fill you up. It is just wonderful taste wise also. We had some roast beef, bean-tomato salad, biltong pathé, and key lime pie as desert. There were a couple of other goodies too (see photo).

Setting:

The views from the garden are fantastic and you are able to sit either on nice tables or enjoy your picknick from comfortable blankets.

Service:

Great. Nothing to be desired.

Wonderful wine/picnic experience. The food was not as good as the hype but the overall experience was rare compared to other wine estates. The best part was being able to relax alongside the lake on a sunny day.

Love this concept and the whole feel of this place. The picnic basket vibe is so relaxing and enjoyable - so lovely to be out in the garden with beautiful views and not stuck in the conventional seated restaurant. Great way to spend a lazy afternoon 💕

Such a great estate! There is something special about the Old Cape Dutch buildings. Their heritage is really awesome to listen to. They have little wood clusters outside where you can enjoy picnics with a small group of friends. They are also well known for their wine. Definitely worth going

Picnic of dreams! Absolutely in love with this wine farm and everything they have to offer. At Warwick you can enjoy a gourmet picnic in the perfect picnic pod while sipping on a great glass of Chardonnay.

The picnic basket is filled with treats such as biltong pate, olive bread and mini cheesecakes. Favourites included the smoked salmon with the fried capers, the quinoa salad, the olive bread, and the chocolate cheesecake. Warwick also offers a vegetarian and a kids option.

Definitely book in advance to get the best spots by the lake!

On one of our wine trips through the wine district of South Africa we stumbled upon Warwick! Since then we've been back a few times. I also arranged to ask the big question there. As this was a surprise, the staff was great, arranged all via email and it went down smooth. The picnic basket was substantial, obviously a bottle of First Lady. The picnic pods around the dam is very private and comfortable. Would suggest when visiting asking them about the story of the wedding cup, it is a central theme and the cup appears on all the wine lables. Freakin awsome place!😀

Words fall short of how incredible the wine and food is at the estate. Loved every single moment

Warwick is one of the premium wine estates in South Africa and it's not difficult to see why. They offer picnics, which you must book ahead of time, on the lawn in front of the tasting room with a small splash pool and fountains for the kids. My fiancé and I were blown away by the cheese platter, which brought together some of the best local cheeses with different spreads (including a herb butter which we used for dipping given how tasty it was), Parma ham, and they even had gluten free delicious breads!

The wine tasting was expensive at R100 each, although this falls away should you buy a bottle of wine which makes it the smart decision. The service levels were probably the best of the estates we tasted at thus far. Combining knowledge with a sweet story of a silversmith and a princess.

A properly fantastic afternoon. Thank you so much!!!!

This is a wonderful place to have a picnic! We were shown to a lovely private pod that would serve as our picnic spot for lunch. It was nice and private even though there were other pods close by. It was very pretty and had a relaxed feel to it. The service was good, sometimes it felt a little slow.

Now on to the good stuff, the contents of our picnic box! We had a lovely range of foods to share. I have to say my favorite part was the biltong paté with the fresh bread, it was divine! The BBQ shredded beef and Mexican quinoa salad were also delicious. We finished the meal with a cheesecake, I had the chocolate one, it was as incredible.

I would highly recommend going to Warwick to try their picnic box, it's well worth it!

What a breathtaking venue. We had the Warwick picnic and wine. These are no ordinary picnics - each element of the picnic is beautiful and the attention to detail in creating these picnic basket meals is incredible. The bread provided is amazing and there are a variety of spreads in the picnic. The cheesecake to end off the picnic is also gorgeous. Warwick is a must-try! Theodora Lee Melanie Du Toit

What better way to spend a midweek lazy afternoon in the shade of your own umbrella, on white fluffy cushions and blankets, on a pristine green lawn overlooking a dam with glass of wine in hand and a fully packed gourmet picnic...
We decided to book with Warwick after their picnic menu came top 5 in the Cape winelands gourmet picnic list. Wow what an understatement, the food is outstanding and presented beautifully in your own wooden basket laid out on a wooden pallet right at your feet. Once you've consumed the contents of the box, which doesn't take long considering the quality of the food, you can lie back on the cushions and have a siesta, or tuck into a great book wine in hand. Time melts away at this exquisite venue and on leaving it feels like a proper holiday experience rather than a couple of hours 50kms out of Cape Town!

Cannot wait to return to spend another special day with the Warwick family.

A lovely break from the hustle and bustle on a Sunday afternoon. Fantastic venue, great staff and really good food.
Watershed live on stage made the day special, and the kids could run around releasing all their youthful energy without upsetting anyone and leaving us to relax with the picnic and wine.
Just one gripe in that the prices on the menu on Zomato are very different from the actual ones. Picnic was R500 not R400, and at this price I would have expected something other than flimsy paper plates and cheap plastic knives and forks. Contents of the picnic was however top class, from the homemade butter, and biltong pate to the perfectly marinated pulled pork and the fresh salmon.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will certainly return throughout the summer. Thank you to Jani and her colleagues for looking after us.

Jacqui and I spent a gorgeous afternoon at Warwick Wine Estate. We ordered the gourmet picnic and were seated outside in the shade of the trees.

We looked out over the lawns next to a dam and it was beautiful. There were a lot of young children running around and playing in the water fountain.

The staff brought the picnic to us at our table. It did take them a while to get the picnic to us and initially they had forgotten the cheese. However, they were very accommodating in organizing fresh fruit for me, as I am still on my no processed sugar challenge. Jacqui tasted the chocolate cheesecake and the berry cheesecake and said that they were delicious!

The food was great and the wine even better. We decided to get a bottle of wine rather than do the wine tasting, I think I will be back at some point to try the wine tasting. I would definitely recommend visiting this stunning Estate!

Last week Saturday, Reime and I was invited to Warwick Wine Estate to experience their gourmet picnic with Zomato and Theodora Lee. Warwick Wine estate is located in Stellenbosch and offers the most beautiful views. We were welcomed with a glass of bubbly and enjoyed the ambiance Warwick Wine estate has to offer. Thereafter, we were spoilt with a food platter (which is offered to clients coming to the picnic) and Warwick wines. After spending the afternoon on the lawn and around the picnic pods, Warwick Wine surprised us with a big 5 vineyard safari tour. The highlight of the day, was the breathtaking views, good food and wine (which is everything, basically).

Where do I begin? Of yes, the food and wine! This basket of goodness was presented to the table by Chef Shaun. We indulged (or over indulged) and enjoyed the salads, bread and dessert. Judging by how fast the bread was consumed, it was clear that the twisted olive bread was a firm favourite. That umami butter paired with the olive bread is simple but delicious! The shredded BBQ beef was succulent, and paired well with the cold slaw on the olive bread. My favourite dessert was the chocolate cheesecake. I love the simplicity of the menu. Don't be fooled, these simple items are packed with flavour

It's been a long while since I went on a picnic. Wasn't too keen on the whole concept until we came here and WOW all I can say is it was SO hard to leave. Incredibly beautiful setting; great, attentive staff and the most amazing picnic basket ever. You wouldn't think gourmet baskets could be decadent but it really was! So many flavours, spoilt for choice, and more than enough (in fact too much) to keep you satiated. Helps that the wine is fantastic too!
In good weather this is a MUST no questions asked!!!

I want to go back here again and again and again. Zomato and Warwick treated us to an absolutely decadent picnic lunch in one of their private pods last week, overlooking their dam. My top favourites were the umami butter and their new potato and salmon salad - which went from amazing to extraordinary thanks to the addition of fried capers. I paired my lunch with their Chardonnay which went down a treat. After lunch, we were surprised with a Big 5 Wine Safari led by our wonderful guide, George. I can't recommend this estate, their food, and their staff enough.

Last Saturday I hosted a picnic on behalf of Zomato South Africa at Warwick Wine Farm.

Warwick is one of my favourite wine farms. They offer gourmet picnics along with tantalising wines with breathtaking views.

I particular love the easy going vibe Warwick recreates around wining and dining. Often going to a wine farm means having a table cloth draped on your lap. Here you can forget all that and simply enjoy sharing unique tastes with friends, whilst keeping your sunglasses on and sipping wine on the grass.

I'd suggest exploring their website for more information about their wines and picnic areas here. And if you are thinking of visiting, I'd recommend booking in advance as they do get full over the summery months.

5 stars all round!

So... this was my first Foodie Meetup I attended and legendary it was! We started off with a welcome drink, Warwick MCC. We then did a meet and greet while listening to the welcoming from Warwick, Zomato and Theodora Lee's side.

We had a surprise waiting for us, we tried out the Wedding Cup... so much fun! Next up the staff started serving our picnics! Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! From salmon salad to twisted olive loaf to biltong paté and so much more (check out on Zomato) the berry cheese was my favourite! Chardonnay, First Lady and Rosé was served as we wanted. We were in for another surprise! We went for a game drive to check out the big 5... Cab Sauv, Merlot, Cab Franc, Chardonnay and Sauv Blanc... what a trip! A great view, great food, great wine and GREAT DAY! A must visit!

Had the absolute privilege of attending a gourmet picnic with a large group of foodies at this magnificent estate. From the moment you drive through the gates, there is a sense of luxury, opulence and passionate dedication to creating award winning wines, mouthwatering meals and an unforgettable experience for guests. The curtain raiser; an icy cold glass of just popped Warwick MCC.

Theodora Lee, the Brand Ambassador for Zomato welcomed all with warmth and enthusiasm. Jani Branders of Warwick introduced us to the wines and delectable menu. We were seated on the picturesque private dining deck alongside a pretty pond. The sun shone through the budding young oak leaves of the trees above, creating soft shade over the table that was spread with gourmet goodies for lunch. Homemade olive knotty bread awaited the biltong pate, onion marmalade and mature cheddar. Three refreshingly cool salads of heirloom tomatoes & bocconcini; salmon, baby potatoes & capers dressed in a lemony aoli and an epic coleslaw sat alongside the bbq pulled chuck. Grilled corn yearned for the smearing of a secret recipe umami butter. The encore; a choice of berry compote cheesecake or silky chocolate sauce cheesecake.

The piece de resistance; a selection of all the estate wines which were the perfect partnership to the meal. A marriage made in heaven!

We were later escorted on a "game" drive of the different blocks of grape varietals on the estate. The views are showstoppingly breathtaking and magestic mountains framed each landscape.

Thank you to Jani, Theodora, Zomato, Vincent & James for a fabulous day and a truly unique & special experience.

Warwick is a fabulous picnic haven - top-notch picnic spot with finesse and style! I was thrilled to be part of this delightful Zomato foodies & bloggers meet up experience with delicious food right through to the entertaining Big 5 Wine Safari!

The estate welcomes you with a Cape Dutch building and luscious vast lawns that surround the lake. There is nothing like a family friendly place where you can have a leisurely time while laughing kids enjoy themselves on the jungle gyms to their heart's content.

The gourmet picnic is a real treat and is filled with delicious and tasty nibbles. The thrill of unwrapping a chunk of matured mountain cheese to enjoy with fresh twisted olive bread and a delicious umami butter. The homemade creamy Boursin Cheese, Biltong pâté & Onion Marmalade was out of this world!

Succulent BBQ shredded beef was slow-cooked and enjoyed with a crunchy slaw. There was just something about this cole slaw - light and crunchy with a lovely mix of flavours. Norwegian Salmon was enjoyed with roasted baby potatoes, crispy fried capers and a creamy yoghurt dressing. Heirloom tomatoes & buffalo mozzarella salad was delightful. Who can resist flame-grilled corn on the cob served with their homemade sea salt?

The vanilla cheesecake with mixed berry compote in a jar was sublime as well as the chocolate decadence cheesecake. A perfect way to round off a meal.

From the refreshing MCC to the Unoaked Chardonnay - they were both enjoyable. We also tasted the Cabernet Sauvignon, Trilogy and Blue Lady. The winner for me was the Trilogy.

For a fun fill event we also shared our tasting experience with a partner from the famous Warwick Wedding Cup, made in honour of the love story of the silversmith and Princess Kunigunde.

Then... The Big 5 Wine Safari through the vineyards with scenic views beyond words! Merlot is elegant like a leopard while Cabernet Sauvignon is the king of the grapes, just as the lion is the king of the jungle.

Stylish, great food & excellent wine. These are just some of the words to describe my awesome time at Warwick Wine Estate.

My partner invited me with to a Zomato meetup here with blogger Theodora Lee and fellow Zomato reviewers.

Warwick Wines is nestled in Stellenbosch and has a lovely picnic area and tasting room. I didn't taste wine this time, but we were offered a variety of Warwick wines including an MCC, chardonnay, and rosé. The rosé was a big hit for me.

The picnic offering is more than enough for two people to feast on and be satisfied, while sipping on wine and overlooking the gorgeous views.

We were even treated to a 'Big 5' tour of the five different grape variety and what a treat that was!

I would definitely go back to Warwick for a summer gourmet picnic!

Eternally grateful to JotterJo for managing to get me a spot at the Warwick meet up yesterday. The Zomato crew could not have picked a better day and venue.

Upon arrival we were met with three Warwick staples- the unwooded Chardonnay, Rosé and Cab Sauv. We were treated to their Chard MCC also, which was complex and lively.

Once seated, their picnic style meal commenced- the platter consisted of Smoked Salmon, Halloumi Salad, pulled pork, coleslaw, twisted olive bread, biltong pâté, Warwick's secret butter, and mature cheddar. The dessert was Warwick's Conundrum: the Chocolate Cheesecake or Mixed Berry Cheesecake. The chef explained that their hearts were in the food, and we could certainly taste it. My pick of the platter- the twisted olive bread, with the wide array of condiments. The Mixed Berries was definitely my choice of the cheesecakes.

Towards the end of the day two top echelon wines, Trilogy and The Blue Lady made guest appearances.

The day was rounded off nicely with a Wine Safari through Warwick's 'Big Five' blocks.

A great day with Zomato, and Cape Town's top reviewers- thanks for having me.

I was extended an invitation from Zomato and Theodora Lee for a meetup at the lovely Warwick wine estate.

What I like about Warwick is this place caters for everyone. You can bring the kids and they can enjoy themselves on the lawn or jungle gym. The lawn looks upon a lake... Blah blah blah.

Ok let's get down to business here.

The wine.. One word sums it up, fantastic. I have 3 favorites. The White Lady an oaked Chardonnay that is finally in my collection. The Blue Lady classic Cabernet Sauvignon that is smooth, choclately and puts feeling that doesn't go away quickly. And last but not least, The First Lady, a similar taste to the Blue Lady but clean and elegant.

The food... It was a beautiful day so a picnic was the order of the day. The spread that was presented to us was fantastic, homemade olive bread twist, umami butter, onion jam, corn on the cob, pulled chuck steak that was smoking and insanely good.

This for me is a fantastic place to go with friends or family. It's great to just sit and enjoy the weather, great food and great wine.

Would I go agin? Yes yes yes and yes. It's an amazing place just a short drive from Stellenbosch.

Thank you to Zomato and Warwick for a fantastic day out.

Where do I start... Tasting: Warwick's range of wines are superb! From the MCC to the Blue Lady Cab Sauv. I specifically enjoy the Chardonnay which was unoaked. Perfect fo a hot Summers day. We then got their new picnic baskets... Yummy! Twisted Olive loaf exclusively found at Warwick, umami butter exclusively found there too, biltong patè, and so much more... We had a chilled afternoon with friends, foodies and fellow bloggers. That did not end there... We then went for a "Game drive" to see the BIG 5... Cab Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Cab Sauv and Sauv Blanc... Beautiful creatures...lol. Driving in a Land Rover to the top of the hill with breathtaking views and Vistas. Great food, great wine and great views. A must visit and soon!

Best picnic I've had in my life! I am honestly obsessed with this wine farm after my picnic experience.
I visited Warwick once before for wine tasting and while the view was stunning I wasn't blown away.
However, I am a sucker for picnics and decided to book for one. The booking process is really easy to do online and you can choose between a picnic spot or a picnic pod - both on the edge of the dam. I opted for a picnic spot as there were only two of us.
The food you receive is beautifully placed in a box and brought to you with a menu describing what you received. The food was exceptional and really fun to eat. I recommend the gourmet picnic.
Stunning location and I will definitely be back.

I was recently invited to a picnic at Warwick Wine Estate as a media guest. I was given the option of going on the Sunday with Dave, or on the Monday without him, and chose the Monday option. I was so glad that I did as the weather was amazing, and I got to meet some new people. I could go on and on about the Gourmet picnic but all I am going to do is highlight a few things. You can order either a meat lover or vegetarian option and as we had both at the table I can say that the vegetarian one looked amazing and got rave reviews from the one vegetarian person sitting with us. It was also ‘tested’ by Mike and Norma Ratcliffe and both thought it was good. I loved the pickled beetroot, pecan nut, goat’s cheese, quinoa and wild rocket salad and the grilled beef tagliata with aioli and trufflle oil but I did not care much for the gazpacho salad with a chilli and garlic dressing as I found the raw onions to be too overpowering.

An amazing space to just be. Lots of room for very busy toddlers to run around without disturbing others, especially if you book a picnic spot. When you say a 'Gourmet' picnic, you really need to think about a 'gourmet' experience which Warwick wine estate offers plenty.
It really was a great day, the only comment would be that the service was a little slow, (they could have done with one more waitor in the picnic area) but when you are relaxed and chilled out in the facilities they offer, it didn't matter that much! Would I do it again, well once I have saved up enough (it wasn't cheap!) then absolutely!

What an absolute dream! Picnics at Warwick have won my heart and I couldn't think of anything better to suggest to pretty much the entire world to do.

Warwick hosted a Zomato Meetup a couple of weeks ago and I'm still in awe of the amazing afternoon we experienced. After receiving a delicious glass of rosé on arrival, we were shortly led to their "wine safari" vehicle and I was absolutely giddy with excitement for the little adventure we were about to go on.

Cruising through the trees and across the gorgeous vineyards, we eventually made it to the wine tasting spot perched up on a hill surrounded by views that will leave anyone speechless. We were treated to a couple of their wines before we headed back to the picnic area for the feast that was awaiting us.

Grabbing a spot in our little picnic pod overlooking the lake, our baskets full of goodies made an appearance. Picnics are right up my alley! A bit of bread, an array of meats and cheeses, an amazing Moroccan inspired couscous salad, fresh grapes and 2 different pates, I hardly knew where to start! I was a bit worried that there wouldn't be enough food for 2 (a basket between 2 people and I eat a lot) but there was more than enough! We ended off on the sweetest note with some of the best brownies I've ever had and I wish I'd got an entire plate just for myself!

You know those moments that leave your heart feeling incredibly happy and your tummy really full? Yeah, my visit to Warwick was one of those moments. I'm itching for my parents to visit me in Cape Town so that I can take them to experience a day filled with the incredible food, wine and views that I got to experience.

Disclaimer: this review would be a 5/5 if I had had wine. (Pregnancy woes)
So, where do I begin?
Picnics are events, they require a bit of planning and there's something Wonderfully 20's about them.
For great views, a range of settings for every need, homely, fresh and seasonal food and good wine available then look no further than Warwick.
Yes, for R400 for two, it's a lot pricier than any other winery picnic but I think it's worth it for something extraordinary.

Every bit the dream I've had.

I had the privilege of meeting Mike Ratcliffe at the Daily Maverick's inaugural The Gathering and was introduced to the Vilafonté and Warwick wines. I've been a fan since. Of all three.

I'd been dying to visit the estate since...especially to experience the gourmet picnic. Enter honeymoon phase. Yesterday we popped in for what was the perfect honeymoon afternoon. Ok, the second perfect honeymoon afternoon.

Matthews and the ladies were super. Just delightful and pleasant. And the gourmet picnic after our tasting was one of my honeymoon highlights. My husband, the highly recommend gourmet picnic, the stunning setting. Love. Loves. Loved.

Thank you very much. A huge hit. We'll certainly be back.

We had the privilege of being hosted by Warwick for an incredible Zomato Meetup picnic and wine tasting. Firstly, this farm is so beautiful! We did the wine safari, which I would recommend to anyone visiting the farm. They took us up to the top of the farm, where we got to taste some of their best wines under an old stone structure, overlooking the vineyards. I was extremely impressed with their wine, particularly the First Lady range. We then had the most delicious picnic next to the dam in one of the Warwick picnic pods, consisting of fresh bread, biltong and trout pâté, fresh fruit and a cous cous salad that I will definitely go back for. The staff was super friendly and the farm has a real family feel that really sets Warwick apart from other places in the area.

Do yourself a favour and head out to Warwick for a picnic. Make sure you get a spot in a "picnic pod" (private, shady, perfect) and order yourself a chilled bottle of wine. We enjoyed their new picnic menu last Friday, which was packed with goodies: moroccan salad in a jar, cheeses (the wild mushroom one was to die for), cold meats, biltong, pate, etc. etc. I ate and loved everything! I really enjoyed the addition of fat, juicy grapes to the basket - they went beautifully with the meats. I also looooved the salty pretzel bread (although I did have to scrape off some of the salt on top... raised by a mom who didn't season anything has made me appreciate just the tiniest touch of salt). We also got to enjoy a wine safari up to the top of the Warwick vineyards, where you can do a tasting of their best sellers. This is truly magical and for just 50 bucks, you HAVE to add it to your day at the farm. I loved how involved the staff are in their brand, and they'll go the extra mile for pregnant / vegetarian / fussy eaters in general. Impressive stuff!

What an absolutely spectacular day! With summer upon us we are so glad we got a chance to let people know about this special place!

This wine farm set in gorgeous stellenbosch is a family owned establishment that clearly pours love into everything they do! Their picnic baskets are such a treat if you are in the mood for food but for us the best experience was wine tasting at the top of their vineyards! The view alone is enough to get you there but wine is what kept us!

Their wine maker Nic gave us an awesome talk about all their wines and quite honestly all their staff were incredibly knowledgable and really friendly!

We would recommend this place anytime! For any occasion, but definitely for a romantic picnic or a great day out with friends!

Thank you for the lovely day!

If anyone ever tells you that picnics are childish and overrated, then they clearly haven't been to Warwick Wine Estate. My dad has been a loyal supporter of Warwick Wines for years and knows Mike Ratcliffe, the owner, very well. Those distinctively blue, yellow and red labeled bottles have had their fair share of filling wine glasses at many of our family dinners over the years. You can imagine my excitement when the Zomato Team booked for a Foodie Meetup at Mike's beautiful farm! Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Warwick's Events Manager, Linda, who proceeded to pour us each a glass of the Pink Lady dry rosé. Light & fruity and perfect for the scorching heat. Our large group was then split into two and we were then led outside where a Safari Land Rover was waiting for us.

We were taken on what Warwick calls the Big 5 Wine Safari, a bumpy but beautiful drive through the vineyards to the highest point of the estate. More Pink Lady filled our glasses as we soaked up the panoramic view of what looked like paradise. To all the guys out there looking for proposal ideas... *Hint hint, this spot is the ultimate romantic setting*

We were joined by the other half of our group and then by Warwick's wine maker himself, Nick, who proceeded to lead us through an awesome wine tasting of his most well known wines; The First Lady Cab Sauv, Unwooded Chardonnay and Rosé. The wine was impossible not to love and coupled with the breathtaking view, it was truly a stunning experience.

The Warwick wine brand is without a doubt well known, but there is another little secret weapon that the farm has in its possession which makes it as highly demanded as it is. This is their incomparable ability to pull of the most exquisite picnics. After Safari'ing back down to the restaurant area, we were led across a wide-open lawn which overlooks a glassy lake and is specked with picnic blankets shaded by big cream umbrellas. So when you book for a picnic, you can choose to have your picnic at a spot like that. Or, if you are a bigger group like we were, you can book a Picnic Pod, which are special little gazebo-type structures tucked away amongst the trees with a long wooden tables. We had our picnic at the Kunigunde Pod. The table was set beautifully and what seemed like an endless number of wine bottles nestled neatly inside the table's built-in ice buckets. After filling our glasses once again, the chef introduced himself and explained the concept behind his picnic baskets to an group of eager (and hungry) Foodies. We had the pleasure of being treated to his newest designed Gourmet Picnic which was delivered to our table in frighteningly-large wooden crates by numerous waitstaff. Inside each of them was a collection of carefully thought out combinations of culinary delights- a selection of cheeses, freshly baked pretzel sticks & ciabatta rolls, a combo of cold meats, smoked salmon pâté & biltong pâté, a bunch of juicy red grapes and finally, a couscous salad with beetroot, citrus fruit, shredded carrot, cranberries and greens served in colourful layers inside a jar!

I'm not a huge fan of cheeses or cold meats so I focused on devouring the delicious couscous salad and did my best not to polish off an entire pretzel stick (which was an achievement in itself). If you're a sucker for fresh bread like I am, you would love this basket! If you like your cheeses and spreads with which to paint your fresh bread, then you too will also be in for a treat! The effort that is put into preparing, arranging and presenting the picnic feast we had was evident in every bite. Everything was fresh, everything was delicious and you are treated with the utmost respect and hospitality.

What better way to spend a summery day than with a picnic basket & great wine all sorted for you? And where better to do it than at Warwick? This place is in a league of its own and I will definitely be back with my family to prove it. Thank you Warwick!

Let me start by saying - Today I had the best Picnic ever!

This was my very first visit. As an avid red wine drinker, I were familiar with some of their wines. They have a top class selection of red wines.. Something of every variety. Their Cabernet Franc has won 5star awards in the past. Simply unbeatable. Be sure to visit their tasting room. Lots of wines available for tasting and a large selection of Riedel glasses and decanters on sale.

Warwick Estate is known for their luxury picnic baskets. They have special picnic areas all over the farm. Some are located right along side the dam, with a perfect view over the mountains and water. Those areas all have large umbrellas. Then they also have Picnic Pods. Which can seat 12 people. There are 8 of these Pods, some located under large trees.Very tranquil and private.

The picnic baskets comes loaded with nice goodies. Luxury paté's, artisan breads, a large salad served in a Jar..really cool! Then also a meat platter, with medium rare Fillet steak medallions, Parma ham slices and gourmet salami. I have taken photos of each item, which shows the quality of the food and packaging.  All of the above, very well presented in a wooden box.
In my opinion, if you feel like a picnic lunch, Warwick Estate is the place to go to. I don't think one can get a better picnic than this.

A wonderful place to do by whether it is raining or not.  The dining room is spacious, the wine tasting is elaborated clearly and the picnic box has more delights that possibly two persons sharing can finish consuming.   Nestled in ambient scenery and relaxing landscape, Warwick lures the tired traveller to north-west of Cape Town.  A good introduction to is lunch there initially and then perhaps consider joining the Wine Club.  Run by the Ratcliffe family, Warwick also runs wine safaris with their Big 5 grape varieties, holds picnics (not between may to August for weather considerations) and maintains a shop on site and on-line.  The staff are well trained, engaging and knowledgeable.Warwick's reds are centred around the two Ladies (Red and Black) plus Trilogy (by itself and then with Magnum) and the Cabernets.  Warwick's whites emphasise on chardonnays but also have a dry rose and Sauvignon Blanc.  I prefer the two ladies and the Sauvignon Blanc from the tasting that we had.  Warwick is a boutique business and so offers great care and attention to its produce and blends. This attention to detail is also reflected in the food provided for visitors.  Karoobossie vintage cheddar,  butternut and sweet potato tart puffs, quality salami and Parma ham.  What I like most of all is their take on the Greek salad - with almonds, barley, broccoli and brinjal!  Accompany all this with ciabatta, pretzel sticks and Melba toasts in the hamper - and every one feels complete.  Oh yes, don;t forget the smoked salmon pate as well. There are plenty of choice in picnic areas, like in the Pods, forest courtyards, outer decks and the lawns themselves.   And they are big on organising functions.

Ordered chocolate fondant, but instead of it being filled with chocolate, it was filled overly salted caramel and had quite a bitter taste. I didn't enjoy this at all. The wine is excellent! The white lady is perfect for a warm day and a picnic.

I always have a fantastic time at Warwick whether its for their summer picnics or their winter tapas lunches!
In summer its fantastic to park off by the late feating on fresh salads, breads and cold meets and cheeses.
In winter their tapas boards include the most incredible chicken liver pate and I'm crazy about their baked camembert!

And whatever the season their wine is always superb!

The only negative is that service can be a little patchy and slow. Go for a lazy Sunday - and the poor service is less of an issue.

Warwick Wine Estate is a firm favourite when it comes to summertime gourmet picnics. Their baskets contain incredibly yummy foods that are all freshly prepared and wonderfully packaged. The picnic pods are beautiful to enjoy a romantic picnic without the fuss and mess of a traditional picnic.

When you have happy kids you enjoy your food and the experience so much more!  And this is what the Warwick gourmet picnics are all about :)

We loved the idea of a relaxed picnic on the lawns, being waitered on!  And with the superb Warwick range of wines, kept chilled in an ice bucket, we knew we were in for a treat.

We sat at a bench under an umbrella and were thrilled we were also given a large blanket and cushions to lie on the grass under the shade of the nearby tree.  This set the tone for a chilled atmosphere for sure.

Our kids loved the large jungle gym and the lawns to run on and do "roly polys" and it felt like a safe environment to let them enjoy themselves.

The picnic hampers were fantastic, all individually wrapped and packaged salads, cold meats, cheeses - all of top quality, and a homemade biltong pate that was delish!  The kids picnic option was not that great, so next time we'll include them in the adult picnic which was top class.

This was a wonderful surprise! We didn't have a booking and where very lucky that someone had just cancelled (really you do need to book).
This is such a cool spot for a very very relaxed lunch. The food is very delicious and served in such a great manner. Everything from the biltong pate to the pretzel bread, to the cold meats are just amazing!
The environment is perfect for people with kids and people without! We sat in the picnic area where you get a private table in the garden. it feels like you are all alone in the middle of a farm. Really awesome.
I would highly recommend this place!

Warwick wine estate is the perfect venue for a picnic on a summer's day. They offer an amazing wine safari that takes you up a hill offering the most wonderful views while doing your wine tasting (the 4x4 trip up the hill was also extremely fun!)

Our picnic was served in one of the pods offered on the estate, which was the perfect intimate spot to share a picnic with friends. The food served was also amazing.

We also had only the best service. I cannot fault the experience if I wanted to! The only negative is that the picnic can work out a bit costly but it's well worth it for a great day out!

Such a lovely wine farm. By far the best picnic experience, everything is set up for you and your basket is brought by a waiter. We got a basket for two and it was more than enough. Would highly recommend.

The food baskets were amazing. R600 for two sounded like much, but we could not finish it all. Great place to celebrate a milestone or just to spoil your loved ones. Big spa es for kids to play and great wine to keep parents chilled. Mark down this place as a have to do. Quickly from N1 o to R44 to this little gem.

Beautiful place, innovative and informative. Prices are reasonable and would definitely visit again. Server availability is poor, but the level of service partially makes up for that. Time management is badly practiced when it comes to communication from the kitchen to servers in the last few hours before closing time. Overall, nice food, nice wine, nice staff..

This is a very cool vineyard and well worth visiting with kids! Great service, great wine and a wonderful picnic that was provided, both gluten free and gluten options. Wine is very good and it’s worth doing the tasting option. Extremely child and kid friendly!
