Review Delheim Winery Restaurant - Stellenbosch

We went for a Capcake and Wine paring event. It was very cool and interesting. Well worth the R150 per head. Moved to the restaurant for lunch after. Well worth the move. Not the cheapest place ever, but the food and the staff made it worthwhile. Had an awesome time and would go back there anytime. The food was awesome and the wine was great. Definitely worth a visit.

An absolute gem! Went in the summer then the winter! Amazing menu every time. Great staff and views to die for. Would highly recommend to anyone who appreciates the finer details in life.

What a privelige to have had a sublime lunch while ouma Vera was there. Also had one of the best wine tastings ever. As well a glimpse into the reserve cellar. Great farm, with warm welcoming staff all the way from the entrance to the restaurant. Definitely my favorite farm.

1. We first came to Delheim Vineyard 30 years ago and what a wonderful experience we had today to visit again. 2. Had a lovely wine tasting and tour of the Wine Cellar so all i can say is this is a must visit on your trip to Stellenbosch.. 3. Had a awesome lunch (soup and Kingklip) and obviously some great wine.

I've been to A Lot of eine tastings and nothing beats Delheim! The atmosphere is fantastic, the service is great. We had the absolute best value for money cheese platter in years! The road to Delheim is well worth it! Do yourself and your taste buds a favor!

We had the wine and cupcake pairing which was a nice experience. They also do it with fruit juices so that your children or people who don't drink (your designated driver) can be included in the tasting.

The Delheim Jazz and Fondue event is hands down the most fun we’ve ever had at a wine farm event! Enjoying delicious cheese, bread and wonderful wines while grooving to the tunes of local bands is the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I would not recommend bringing children as they’re not catered for on the menu so rather get a babysitter and make it a date day!

Absolutely loved this wine estate. The food is amazing with a unusual menu. Staff of the wine tasting could have been more enthusiastic and shown more interest. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful lush garden setting over looking the valley. The resident dogs are to cute as they greet each visitor hoping for a little scrap from the table. The wine tasting room is beautiful with aromas of wines filling the air. The wine cellar is awesome. U can off set your wine tasting bill against your purchase of wine of R100.00 or more. They have the most incredible pumpkin and fig preserve. Which is delicious with cheese and biscuits.

Absolutely worth it! Refreshingly unpretentious, matured beautifully, gentle spirit prevailing. Stunning!

We usually go there if in the mood for German type food. Lovely platter for 2. The restaurant seating area feels nice and cosy, but if you are able to sit under the pergola outside, a very pretty framed view awaits. The cellar feels like one of the old-school ones, with dark wood and dimmed lighting, they do great cheese platters when wine tasting and we always buy one of their rosé wines to take home.

Yummy home cooked type of food. Everything tasted homey and delicious. Menu could use a bit of a revamp as it's been the same for years, most of the dishes are more enjoyable in winter (bobotie, chicken curry, pork belly etc).

Beautiful for lunch on a nice day under the umbrellas, it is a pretty setting.

Their wines are nothing spectacular.

Amazing breakfast at the restaurant. Delicious and affordable food and friendly service. Tue atmosphere was warm and cozy thanks to the fire place. Thanks Delheim!

Was very excited to visit the Delheim Garden restaurant but it wasn’t as expected. They can really up their game, the food quality is lower than average - watery soggy salad leaves and the cheesecake slice was so small, think they did not prepare for the day. Glasses were dirty

Just breathtakingly beautiful it was overwhelming. We went for breakfast. I had salmon eggs Benedict- perfectly made. The coffee one of the best I've ever had. Bf had the chefs breakfast. There home made pork sausage to die for. Presentation A+. I like the little things: the butter was wrapped like a sweety, the pepper grinder was a plastic bottle that looks like one of their wine. Service quick and efficient

I'm keen to go for dinner in winter next to the fire place

We did the wine tasting after. Lovely wines. Tasting fee foregone on purchase of a bottle.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH This one is worth writing about. On our Cape Town trip we went online to see which wine tastings were open until late and Delheim happen to be one of the last to close. Taking us nearly an hour to get there, searching and almost giving up; I am happy to say it was worth every bit of the journey.

When we arrived I was already mesmerised by the view. Late sun on the mountains. Chilly breeze. We sat down and it immediately felt like home. Warm. Welcoming.
We had the wine tasting and it was honestly THE BEST collection of wines we ever tasted. We ended up buying 8 wines to bring home and we have salvaged them and had it on special occasions.

One of the best experiences ever!

Delheim has one of the warmest atmospheres with a staff that is passionate and friendly and would do all they can to make their guests feel welcome and have them enjoy their visit to their beautiful farm and facilities!Because of the fantastic food and wine, Delheim is a must-do visit during any Winelands tour or Cape Holiday!

Delheim tucked away at the foot of the Simonsberg mountain. The views are stunning as the winelands always is!!!!

Off we went for a lovely Sunday lunch for 2 ;) been living around here for over 2 years and I hadn't tried it so was grateful to finally have set foot here ...

For R150pp we each got a Cauliflower soup as starter and the pork belly strips for the main... so worth it!

Cauliflower soup was nice and creamy - big portions, well presented and very tasty!

Pork belly strip was very tasty and loved the big pork crackling on top!

All and all I would recommend this place it's really very tranquil and service and food is awesome! Do try them ;)

We actually made a booking for Friday afternoon (for #RestaurantWeekSA) but due to getting food poisining the previous night from a well known restaurant we had to cancel last minute. We really wanted to go so randomly decided to go yesterday afternoon without a booking. They were completely fully booked, but the very nice manager, Junior, assured us he would make a plan and asked if we mind to wait. On clear days guests have a beautiful view across to Table Mountain in the distance. The restaurant offers a selection of dishes ranging from cheese platters to traditional German and South African food and it is really a relaxing but upper market ambience.

Waiting was no problemat all as they also have a really lovely wine tasting area as well were we tasted some splendid wines-would highly recommend their Cahrdonnay Sur Lie-pricy but really worth every cent (R160 per bottle). We did a tasting of 5 wines were you pick your own wines. You also have the option of adding a platter, some snacks, tapas or do a cupcake and wine pairing.

The service was perfect and just after the wine tasting Junior and his lovely team (can also really give a shout out to the 2 friendly professional waiters who served is with a smile-even though they were under a lot of preasure being so chaotically bus-Assanda and Hillary) got us a table inside. After receiving our wine (we ordered the Chardonnay Sur Lie) and a jug of cold water, they said they just got an opening outside for us on the beautiful terrace. It is absolutely amazing sitting outside and smelling all the wonderful dishes passing by, all looking beautifully plated as well.

For the Restaurant Week South Africa special our starters were Cauliflower soup, quenelle of slow braised oxtail, sautéed fennel, parsley oil (ther eis also a vegetarian option of shimeji mushrooms instead of the oxtail). The soup was perfectly seasoned with parmesan and very smooth and creamy, the oxtail was perfectly cooked-long and slow and the sauteed fennel and parsley oil just completed the dish-it was truly one of the best soups I have ever had. It also paired perfectly with the Chardonnay. This soup is usually priced at R65.

When we finished our starters Asanda came back to inform us that unfortunately they are out of pork belly which was supposed to be included for the Restaurant Week special (Crisp pork belly strips, sweet potato fondant, aubergine and thyme puree, butternut, garden Swiss chard, tomato and pork beurre blanc.), but instead we can have any other main course or starter from the menu. It was difficult to choose as there were so many options and all of it looked delicious, but something stroke our eyes very quickly and my friend and I both had the Slow braised lamb shank in a Moroccaan rub, sauteed baby potatoes, seasonal vegetables, olives, harissa & yoghurt dressing, deep fried mint and a lamb jus. Ususally priced at R185, which is really not bad considering the quality and quantity.

It was a feast! The lamb tasted delicious, perfectly seasoned, a touch of a spicy bite, and falling of the bone. Everything else that accompanied it complimented the dish completely except for the harissa yoghurt-which is the only criticism I can give as it was totally unnecassary-the lamb was soft, juicy, flavourful and tender enough to be served on it's own. =) It is very tasty-don't get me wrong, but overpowers the tasty flavours of the rest of the dish.

After a lovely meal-feeling very satisfied we had some perfectly made cappucinos. For 2 restaurant week specials, 2 bottles of wine and 2 cappucinos the bill came to R750 without tip.

Would definitely recommend it and be visiting again soon!

Wine tasting with cheese platters down in the wine cellar. It's dark and not too big with a old European feel to it. Sevice was good and so was the food and wine. Really got comfy there and did not want to leave.

Went to the restaurant after tasting (sadly you cannot take your taste bill over to the restaurant so you annoyingly have to double pay) and ordered the Eland fig goats cheese salad which was amazing! However I found a beetle in my lettuce halfway through eating, the management treated the situation accordingly by offering me a replacement and an bottle of wine as an apology. Which I appreciated. Unfortunate about the bug though
My husband and I took my niece for the Delheim Easter Egg Hunt about 2 weeks ago. Although we never had a meal at the restaurant, we were definitely handled like VIP guests. Our niece did her easter egg hunt and we followed right after getting a bottle of Delheim Sauvignon Blanc and Delheim Pinotage Rose with an array of easter eggs. Delheim has been our go to wine farm for 10 years and will always go back.

Delheim restaurant has the most beautiful view over the forest and a perfectly manicured garden. The food is nice and they also offer an awesome cupcake and wine pairing. We had our grad breakfast here and they really put in a lot of effort, they even made us menus with quotes on the bottom. It was very thoughtful. The breakfast was really delicious and the staff are also really cool. Well worth a trip

Went to Cellardoor at Delheim. I checked on the website the night before if booking was essential, and it wasn't mentioned anywhere so I assumed it wasn't necessary to book for a wine tasting. When we arrived it was fairly quiet and the person who came to greet us was really rude when we said we didn't have a booking. There weren't many people there, nor did many people arrive in our time there so I don't know why it was such a big issue, especially considering I just did a wine tasting and my mom and I shared a cheese platter, it's not like we were a table of 10.

I felt totally rushed, unwelcome, uncomfortable and I was made to feel like I was not good enough to be there. The general atmosphere was very condescending, and I don't enjoy being made to feel inferior at a place that's supposed to be pleasurable. And that atmosphere didn't improve even after I bought multiple bottles of wine. I was only given one glass throughout a 6 wine tasting, and when I queried it the lady I spoke to said that that's why I was given water-to wash my glass. Yet all the other tables doing tastings had multiple glasses, like 5 or 6 per person.

However, the cheese and charcuterie platter was incredible, actually the best I've ever had. Reasonably priced too. And the wines were amazing, I loved them so much that even though I just wanted to leave, I stayed because I just had to have them. The cheese and wine was a 5/5, I can't fault it.

Came across Delheim in a magazine whilst on a flight, it caught my eye because they mentioned they do cupcakes paired with wines. I mean what more could you ask for!? Being a lover of both I couldn't wait to try it😁

I booked a table as this particular combination of tasting requires a reservation as they only make a certain amount of cupcakes per day.

When we got to Delheim we were seated by friendly staff, who attended to us immediately.

Wow the most decadent and divine cupcakes paired with perfectly selected wines. The cupcakes were also carefully selected as they all had unique flavours to them which included things like pomegranate, pumpkin and vanilla etc. My first time trying such different combinations of cupcakes. They definitely nailed it!

Definitely somewhere to try for a decadent day out! Can't wait to go back 😄

After the most amazing service at the tasting room, we asked if we may order some platters for the table. Understandably, the tasting room was closing but they advised us to move across to the restaurant and order platters there. We bought 18 bottles of their wine and moved across to the restaurant where we bought another bottle to open and enjoy with the platters. We paid our bill and enjoyed the last few glasses of wine from our bottle. Once our bill was paid and closing time arrived, the restaurant closed its doors leaving us deserted with nothing around us but the glasses we were drinking from. We began to leave and were told through the window of the restaurant door to go around through the garden. No "thank you" for supporting the farm, no warning of closing. They simply shut us out and left us to find our way through the garden to our cars. I am completely shocked with the service from the restaurant and having worked on a wine farm for 8 years I am aware of what kind of service one should receive. Sadly I will never return to the gorgeous tasting room as I will never support this farm again. A terrible experience of bad customer service! Be sure to visit long before closing time as they close their doors and lock you out with no warning at all.

Beautiful setting, the cape Malay chicken curry was perfect. Great wine tasting as well. I will definitely be back. The menu is a bit limited but the food they do make is yummy!

Absolutely loved the afternoon spent at this hidden gem :) an incredible setting amongst the forest of trees and blooming bushes, we had a very good curry and an even better succulent Karoo lamb that complimented the superb Delheim Shiraz. The service was very good, and it made for a great afternoon of eating and drinking. Highly recommendable

Accidentally stumbled upon this gem this afternoon, and so glad we did! This quaint restaurant has the most incredible foresty setting, perfect for a relaxed, boozy afternoon. The cape Malay chicken curry was phenomenal- full of flavour and served with the perfect arrangement of sides. As expected, the Karoo lamb shank was perfectly tender and delicious, and paired with the Delheim Shiraz, it absolutely completed the meal and the afternoon. I will definitely be back soon to try the desserts!

This is a lovely hidden restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, a beautiful garden and friendly staff.

We had the snoek fishcakes and the mushroom risotto. The fishcakes were lovely and came with a delicious beetroot and feta salad and the best old fashioned sweet potato, the only let down was a few small bones I found in it but it is really difficult to fillet a snoek so it wasn't a big deal. My fiancé enjoyed his risotto as well.

The portion sizes are good and wine prices are great. I hate paying almost the same price for a glass that I could pay for bottle and that's not the case here.

All in all a great Sunday lunch :)

Lovely views, service and food. The Platter for 2 was more food than we could eat, and a bang for your buck. The chicken curry was authentic and flavorful. Lovely experience

Had the most Amazing breakfast here!

We stayed over on the Muratie Wine Estate just down the road from Delheim. we went there for our first try at wine tasting. first we had breakfast and coffee. the view was amazing! the serves was very good and the atmosphere was magical.

We both had the eggs Benedict with Hollenday sauce.
after our meal we went for a tour of the cellars, and they explained all the details of the wine making process. It was amazing and so interesting to see how everything gets done.

After the tour we went for some wine tasting, it was a bit early in the morning but nevertheless it was an experience.

We bought a few bottles of wine, and we still enjoy them with friends at parties.

Definitely going again!

We went to Delheim for the cheese fondue and it was not up to standard. The cheese sauce had a very strong taste which was not welcoming to the pallette. The soup, gluhwein and atmosphere was nice. Unfortunately the fondue was the whole reason we came and was a disappointment.

Creamy, full flavoured mushroom risotto for hubby and lightly spiced chicken curry for me! Lovely outdoor setting, friendly service and excellent wine!

Delheim Wine Estate is the perfect spot for friends and family to meet up for a Sunday afternoon filled with warm glasses of Gluhwien, steaming hot pots of Swiss cheese fondue and fantastic live jazz music.

The estate is beautiful with tall green trees and pretty paths drawing you in (even in the middle of winter). The tasting cellar is warm and inviting with jazz & cheese fondue afternoons.

The fondue and jazz sessions are great, the cheese is rich and full of flavour with fresh veggies and bread to dip. The cozy tasting room has a lovely, homely vibe.

Here’s a cool fact – Delheim was the first wine estate in the country to serve food (almost 4 decades ago) and is still going strong today.

Haven't visited this one in a while, but it's one of the lesser known winefarm venues in Stellenbosch. Unlike many of its neighbours, it aims to create a homely and unassuming atmosphere. The look and feel, as well as the cuisine, are quaintly European (German/Swiss/Austrian) but unpretentious. The views of the surrounding gardens and forests are also gorgeous. Worth a visit.
Jared Carneson
Beautiful picnic venue with an amazing spread. Pickled pumpkin and blue cheese. Parma ham, salami, cheddar, med roasted vegetables. Spinach and feta quiche and so much more paired with a pinotage rose.
Chris Birkett
Unassuming in the extreme. The Delheim restaurant looks like a very standard indoor/outdoor lunch spot rather that the fancier gourmet restaurants that you often see on wine estates. The decor is plain and rustic. However the food is completely outstanding. Beautifully balanced and full of unexpected combinations. Everyone at my table was gushing about their meals. Try the ostrich burger and biltong salad!
