Review Java Bistro - Somerset West

We had a great dine in experience here. The food and wine prices are very affordable if compared to other similar places. We had each a main course, a bottle of wine to share, a dessert and a cappuccino/coffee. The food doesn't take long and is well presented. Friendly waiters and good relaxed atmosphere. They have different specials especially during the week. We will definitely be back.

I had the Insanely Good Burger, which honestly was just okay, the American mustard that they used was a bit overpowering and I didn't really taste the chilli mayo. I asked for my patty to be medium, and it was more on the rare side, but this seems to be a common issue with restaurants asking how I would like the patty, so I usually ask for medium to be on the safe side 💁🏻‍♂️ My son had the Hawaiian Burger, he said that he really enjoyed it. My mom had the Honey Mustard Wrap (something like that, I don't remember the name), she really enjoyed it. She also ordered a side of sweet potato fries, and usually I like them, but these ones were underwhelming. The service was good, very friendly and helpful, Abi was great!

CHICKEN STACK - Incredible meal! My wife had the chicken wrap 🌯 and was great meal for us and our friends. The waiter was friendly, but the true highlight was the quality of food. Thankful for the meal and the price was relatively good. Parking is a nightmare, but worth walking around.

The food was quite good. The chicken curry and rice dish was not very spicy and the portion was just enough, I did not feel super full from it. Their chai latte was tasty, very aromatic. The basque cheesecake was not what I expected (there was barely any presence of sweetness), but I enjoyed it too. It was busy when we had lunch there so everything was really slow, it took a long time for our orders to get taken, for the food and our bill to arrive. The drinks and desserts arrived quite fast though, probably because we were rushing them.

A Saturday lunch with family. Quite busy but lucky to get a table quickly. Good selection of food and beer. Service was a bit hit and miss and saw some other tables struggling to get some service too. Still food and drink were good.

I hear Java is a student favourite. We had a great meal, enjoyed a bottle of wine from the wide selection on offer and soaked up the atmosphere, in part created by young, happy students andcgreatly influenced by great service from our waiter.

Bit of a wait outside (didn't really help that it was cold out) but was seated well. The ambiance was lovely. Having been a veteran of Stellies it was nice to finally see the revamp. Well done. Worth checking out definitely. Just sad my food was cold and the chicken tasted like it was boiled and then seered with a dusting of paprika, so basically no flavour. Safe to say my partner and friend enjoyed their food so that was great! Hence the 4 stars. I'd definitely try it again so not all is lost.

Lovely lunch, thank you. Update Nov 2023: Still better priced than surrounding competition. Great for a quick lunch.

Great vibe. The place was packed, but we were lucky enough to get a table. A large variety on the menu and the prices are extremely good. I ordered a cafe latte and the chicken snitzchel quesadilla. My husband has a Coke light and the chicken snitzchel with chips and mushroom sauce. I did feel a bit like the waiter forgot about us at a stage. I ordered a side of chips with my food, which I never received. Luckily it was removed from the bill before we paid. Also really wanted to try the chocolate brownie with ice-cream, but our waiter took quite long to return to our table so we decided to rather skip it. They were very busy, so that was the only complain. Great vibe, generous portion and very reasonable prices.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Java Cafe/Bistro in Stellenbosch, and I must say, their burger left a lasting impression on me. This hidden gem of a cafe/bistro truly knows how to create a phenomenal burger experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. The menu boasted a wide variety of options, but my eyes were immediately drawn to the burger section, and boy, I'm glad I made that choice! The burger I ordered was nothing short of perfection. The patty was cooked to juicy perfection, bursting with flavor in every bite. It was accompanied by fresh, crispy lettuce, ripe tomatoes, and a medley of delicious toppings. The brioche bun was the ideal vessel, perfectly toasted and adding a touch of sweetness to the ensemble. I must admit, it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. What truly sets Java Cafe/Bistro apart is the attention to detail they put into their food. Each ingredient tasted incredibly fresh, and the burger was meticulously crafted with care. It was evident that the chef takes great pride in their culinary creations, and it truly showed in the final product. The portion size was generous, leaving me feeling satisfied and content. The presentation of the burger was visually appealing, and the flavors were well-balanced. The accompanying fries were crispy and seasoned to perfection, making for a delightful side dish. To top it all off, the service was exceptional. The staff members were not only knowledgeable about the menu but also passionate about the food they served. They were more than happy to provide recommendations and ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of excellent. If you find yourself in Stellenbosch and craving a mouthwatering burger, I highly recommend visiting Java Cafe/Bistro. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this place is an absolute must-visit. The combination of delectable food, friendly service, and cozy ambiance makes it a standout choice in the area. Overall, I can't praise Java Cafe/Bistro enough for their incredible burger. It was an unforgettable experience, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Don't miss out on the chance to savor their culinary delights - you won't be disappointed! A cost unassuming place, have been here a few times. The food was great and portions that satisfied some ravenous eaters. Coffee was superb and great service.

Stopped by for an afternoon catch up session with a friend over a cup of coffee and some decadent cake. <br/><br/>The carrot cake was yum, but the coffee ice cold. The barrister needs to alter the settings of the coffee maker... something is amiss. <br/><br/>The waiters are very friendly and the menu looks interesting. Will return to try their mains some other time.

The service and restaurant itself were lovely, but unfortunately my hake and chips were inedible (undercooked batter, bad tasting fish). My friend had the butter chicken which was nice.

The slow roasted pork belly was tender and moist, however, I missed the crackling, which is so synonymous with pork. The accompanying plum sauce was a tad too sweet. The Java burger was delicious but the the batter on the onion rings was far too thick.  Overall, the meal was enjoyable and the service great. We will return to sample other items on the menu.

We popped in a few months after they opened and we were NOT impressed with the service. We've been back since and things are better. <br/>I have to admit that service is up and down. And that a bit more management presence could only help calm down the demanding locals.<br/>Remember.... there is a lot of competition out there.<br/>I also have to disagree with anyone who says they are overpriced... on the contrary, I find them very reasonably priced with a decent selection on their menu.

I have been to this Bistro a few times, I work close by, so sometimes I phone in and place orders, and other times I invite Suppliers with me to join at the Java Bistro, the service is always very fast and the saff is extremely friendly.  They have a HUGE variety of foods to choose from, and delicious coffee to wash it down with.  Most definitely affordable and on par with other restaurants.  I love it here, and the view over the Sanctuary pond is breathtaking.

Had the worst experience ever, my milkshake got taken away before I'd finished it. Will never return to them again, manager did not seem interested at all. And please can we train waiters properly.

Worst experience ever... sat down waited over 15mins to order our drinks...had to wave a waiter down, and then had to watch him slowly stroll over like I had asked him to climb a mountain,he took order.. 10mins later a lovely female waitress came to take our order again as she said he did not take it😤got our tea had to wait for teaspoons.. got our food, had to wait for cutlery..No salt n pepper etc on the table..food arrived cold!!!what a pity for this beautifully put together restaurant, hope the owners read the reviews to help put theirs standards up for such a pretty place...

Today was obviously a great day to have a nice warm white hot chocolate! But it wasn't the day to have a burger. . My burger patty was rather tough, difficult to chew. However; my egg was just cooked just right. I'm also not a fan of the onion rings, the batter made them a bit soggy, I always thought onions rings were meant to be crunchy. Nevertheless, our waiter was sweet but she did make a bit of a mess with our bill but all was resolved!

This is a great spot to have a quick coffee and breakfast. We had a very nice waiter and the service was good. Food was okay but I think they are still finding their feet. Will visit again.

What a bad experience. Slowest service I have ever had , and waiting that long for below average food. Gourmet food made with packet ingredients. When I asked to see the manager I had to wait for ever to see him so left before he arrived at our table.

Java bistro has a lovely setting on the deck of the Sanctuary and is decorated beautifully. They do not offer soy milk for any of their hot drinks, sadly, and have no vegan options (the veggie burger is made with feta) which is very disappointing. The black coffee is very alright (the mug was still dirty when received) and the service is very friendly and fast. <br/>All points awarded for service.
