Review The Millhouse Kitchen - Somerset West

A beautiful restaurant situated in the most peaceful, tranquil gardens with ponds and the cutest ducklings on the grass. Friendly, professional staff and the food is outstanding, with generous portions. We as a group had a lovely time and enjoyed the peacefulness

This is situated in the scenic Lourensford wine farm.We had late lunch with my Girlfriends. The fact that it closes late is such a bonus coz most restaurants on a wine farm close at a certain time. We had a variety of food and it was all delicious. The space is cozy and the outdoor space is beautiful. You can have dessert at the restaurant or go to Wedgewood for a delicious variety of scrumptious biscuit, chocolates or even ice cream with that is to die forđŸ€€

Have been there a few times. The whole area is big and lots to see. But the resturaunt is the best part. There is a play area for kids at the back. The staff is friendly and funny sometimes and the food is great. It is a nice place to go to for family meals or to go out with an date. Would recommend going there if you haven't been.

We were a group of 6 on Saturday 5 November and Marco deserves compliments as an outstanding manager. We had super meals and the hero was their Beef Cheek Pasta, will definitely order that again. Well done Millhouse!

Received execptional service even with a full restaurant. The food was of a very good quality for really decent prices. The farm Lourensford as a whole is something to behold.

The Cape Alfa Romeo Club used this venue for our year-end breakfast. A total of 110 people attended. The food and service was of the highest quality in a beautiful setting - will definitely go there again

Mesmerized by the enchanting gardens at the estate we arrive 5min before lunch service closes and we were accommodated with a smile! The lady who served us was an absolute delight , knowledgeable , friendly , informative attentive and friendly I adored her radiant warmth and wit! Her wine pairing recommendations were spot on! The views from the resturant are just breathtaking words fail to describe the true splendor of it all When the Thai Prawn Curry I orderd arrived my eyes feasted before I tasted this delicious curry, savoury ,balanced, beautiful textures simply magnificent! Millhouse Kitchen is an absolute must for anyone who loves amazing food! The Hennessy coctail was so superb! Met the Chef (Herman??hope im right) congratulated him on the truly amazing food expirience ! It was one of the best Thai curries iv ever tasted! Six stars overall front of house included!

A home away from home. Fresh food, delicious menu and pet friendly. We love coming here for breakfast. Eggs Benedict is a must try

One standout feature of this restaurant was the well-designed play area for kids. It allowed parents to enjoy their meals in peace while children had a blast in a safe and entertaining space. The staff was also accommodating and patient with families, which enhanced the overall dining experience. However, I did notice a minor drawback—the prices were on the higher side, which might be a consideration for some diners. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a great meal in a family-friendly environment, this restaurant is worth a visit.

The food was delicious - top quality. The service was a bit slow. We had to ask for some drinks multiple times and the food also took quite some time. The juice did not taste fresh pressed even though we were assured it was. There is a nice jungle gym for the kids to play on outside. We were there on a Saturday for lunch and the place was completely packed - they didn't have space for us inside, so make a reservation in advance. The seafood curry linguine was awesome - a little spicy, creamy, with a nice amount of seafood. The pork belly was delicious as well. They have a limited number of beers on tap.

Service a little slow, however this is understandable as under Covid they are working with reduce staffing/waitrons

Not at all up to standard, pizzas are tasteless and portion size of the mac and cheese was a total rip off. There are great restaurants just down the road with much better value for money.

It's was really not a good experience. First the many times
confirmed booking was not there and we were seated across the door leading to the kiddies section. Waited for servers. Waited for drinks. The 2015 red arrived Luke warm!! No red wine fridge? They were stacked high on the warm wall, and then!-the incompetent manager. Asked for an ice bucket to cool it down. Received a bucket of ice to plop into the red wine. Enough said
Wonderful winter afternoon celebrating our daughter’s birthday. Adam, our waiter, took excellent care of us, the girls had a ball, the pizzas were scrumptious and what can we say about the setting?! Spectacular. Thanks for a lovely experience.

An amazing experience at The Millhouse Kitchen. We were amazed at the beautiful setting and the warm and inviting restaurant interior. The food was tasty and the plating beautiful.

Really would not rate very highly unfortunately. I had the ribs which were advertised at 600g and realistically 400g. They were covered in tomato sauce as a basting sauce. Really disappointing. Generally the comment from the table wa@s that the food was Ok, but thats a problem when you are paying almost R200 for a main that is just OK.
On the upside the staff were very friendly and the location is beautiful

Beautifully decorated restaurant with very friendly service staff. Menu variety was good, with a great spread for most palates. Slightly in the pricey side, but food flavor and setting could justify this. Their famed “pork belly” is apparently a must try, will have to head back for this.

I have eaten here twice in the last month . First time for lunch very average lot of menu not available how can a restaurant that is 5 min from a shop not have cream pathetic. When I booked for dinner I asked them please to check that they were not out of stock! Arrived and was told no specials no cheddar cheese no tacos - do these so called managers not know how to go to a shop ! It was sat at month end no sign of management I suppose that’s why there were only +-35 people there pity since it is a great setting needs somebody with a bit of passion and customer care.

Would like to plead to the management and ownership of this establishment. Booking a table with a baby chair gets done for a reason. Denying your clients safe baby chairs is a no go and due to this being a family style restaurant that has at least a capacity of 80 pax one functioning yet broken baby chair is not enough. With that said the food is great! And the kitchen staff are keeping great standards.

It wasn't our intention to eat here. After our wine tasting we were hungry and the menu looked okay for a quick lunch. The kitchen closes at 3 and we were seated at 2:30. We requested to sit in front but were ushered to the back of the restaurant as the table was booked. I failed to see how someone could have booked it seeing that the kitchen would close in 30min and they hadn't arrived. After we were done eating the table we had requested was still empty.

The only nice thing I have to say about this place is that the decor is pretty.

Requested a wine by the glass, and spoke to the waitress in English who then decided she would ignore me and speak to my fiancé in Afrikaans. Even though the menu stated by the glass she insisted it was by the bottle.

We ordered the mussels which looked unappetizing. Didn't taste fresh or have a nice flavour.

The pizza we ordered resembled a bland uninspired kiddies pizza. Not great at all.

Overall the dismal service and unappetizing food left much to be desired and put a damper on the day.

Great experience at The Mill House Kitchen. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. Highly recommend the lizza and pork belly. Love the fireplace!

Love eating at the Millhouse! The food is fantastic, service is amazing, waiters are very friendly and management staff is so helpful. I highly recommend the Pizza's and the Pork Belly. I would love to see more healthy options on the menu though.

Ended my week of entertaining French guests by visiting The Millhouse Kitchen - we had a table outside enjoying our beautiful sunset with a view over the Hottentots Mountains. Service, staff, food and all was really good - amasing setting and the evening market at the Laurensford Wine Estate looked amasing - will have to do that soon....

As to be expected from winelands restaurants, Millhouse does not disappoint. Excellent waitstaff and a lovely ambience. Food is pretty good and snappy. A little pricey but then, quality is not cheap.

Popped in at the Millhouse kitchen for a light snack (2-3 dishes) before heading back to Cape Town after a day in Somerset West.

I throughly enjoyed the crispy squid, but felt my wild mushroom risotto was very mediocre - it lacked that rich and meaty mushroom flavour.

Presentation of the food was beautiful.

This place in incredible! Food, service, setting, atmosphere; all are fantastic! The pork belly was to die for and is definitely a recommendation to all who come here! The service was excellent and we were never left wanting. Anyone in and around the Somerset West area, this restaurant is a MUST visit!
Thinus Dippenaar
Very disappointing. Risotto had to be send back. Then the beer were passed its expiry date. I would be embarrassed if I had served that risotto. I don't recommend this place.

Thought we would try the mill house kitchen at lourensford as my sister was getting married their the following week . The food was great , the pasta was really tasty and the veal was cooked perfectly and service excellent with a cosy atomosphere for the cold day .

Very impressed with the vibe. Always packed and we had a very tasty and succulent burger. Large portion and felt satisfied afterwards. Will definitely come back!

Love the look and vibe of the place. We all had pizza, and it was so delicious. Service was excellent and quick. Def worth the visit. Need to make a booking because on weekends they are mostly fully booked.

Gorgeous setting at Lourensford Estate. We've been there twice and staff are very very friendly. Had no problem letting us sit there till after closing.

Really enjoy the pork belly with the sweet potato.

Love the setting with looking into the gardens.

Will go back when we head back to Somerset West.

On Saturday we decided to take a drive out to Somerset West and stop off at Lourensford Wine estate, and then have lunch at Millhouse Kitchen. Greeted on arrival, we were seated at a lovely window table, which gave us a view of the estate. Our waitor,Connor, was exceptionally friendly, interactive and attentive.

Dario ordered a Pulled pork, red pepper and coriander pizza and I opted for a spicy calamari tube starter( covered in a Harrisa sauce). For dessert, he had a Naked Chocolate Torte, and I chose a homemade milktart with a cappuccino(which came with a mini shortbread on the side- 😁)

The environment was cosy and friendly, and the atmosphere was bustling and family orientated. One of the best lunches we've been to in a while!

Enjoyed a relaxed Sunday lunch at The Millhouse kitchen yesterday. The highlight is the setting - it's a magnificent location to soak up the sun. The food is on the better side of average, pleasant without being remarkable, and acceptable value (although the desserts looked a little steep). The service was also decent, if not quite attentive. I'd recommend visiting - but more for the settling than the food.

The lunch menu at the Millhouse Kitchen was incredible!

We shared all three dishes: beef carpaccio starter, lamb shank and aubergine pizza for mains, and baked chocolate torte for dessert. Great flavours all round!

Our only critique is that the dessert seemed overpriced for the portion size, but the torte was excellent nonetheless.

Loved the atmosphere and the overall look of the restaurant! Excited to try more items on their menu in the near future.

So here's a place well worth a visit and a repeat visit.
My rather picky son eventually chose the millhouse burger and then proceeded to inhale he enjoyed it so much.
Very generous portions and very tasty.
We had mamas meatballs, the Brie and grape pizza and the posh chips side.
All were excellent and value for money.
Good efficient service and beautiful setting make it a place to put in the to do list.

Not to be one of those look-for-any-excuse complainers... But we came into the restaurant just to check the menu before we headed to the adjacent night market. I was accompanied by a friend from the UK, assuring him this place is highly rated - and asked the waiter just to see the menu as we were planning to come back later. He mocked us under his breath and made it very obvious that he thought very lowly of us loitering in the reception area.

The manager was just as useless. We left immediately, unimpressed and a bit embarrassed to be treated as such and for no reason at all...

Bad show for Lourensford inflicted by two snobby service people. a shame.

We popped in to meet some overseas visitors for a quick lunch. We had a pizza to share and was wonderful and tasty with really nice flavors. Unfortunately had to rush to catch a flight but will return

As a blogger , I always enjoy finding new places to try out and going to this little place was high on my to try list. My friend made a booking for Saturday at 10am. When we arrived there - our booking was not there. Luckily, there were tables available and we could be seated. Then we were told that breakfast is served till 10:30am. So we quickly ordered our breakfasts choices so we didn't miss cut off. I had a frittata ( with goats cheese, asparagus and basil) - which was really nice. It was the perfect size and tasted fresh and flavorful. My hubby had the packed eggs with hollandaise sauce which he thoroughly enjoyed. While we were having our breakfast I heard a table of 5 try and order breakfast at 10:35am ( 5 minutes after cut - off) and the waiter just said no. She said the chef would be upset. They got up and left. I thought maybe a grace period should be given as they lost customers so quickly. The only other fault was that the service was terrible. Very unfriendly waitress and host. The place is beautifully located on lourensford estate and the decor is very rustic and warm. Unlike the staff.

Tried to get a table last minute. They made a plan. Was nice and vibey. Mostly tourists. Shared exotic mushroom started. Was decent. Perfectly cooked. Just slightly too much black pepper. Pork belly with red cabbage and sweet potato was excellent. Chicken snitchel was average. Heavy on oil. Silky choc pie was divine. Overall a memorable experience.

We had a lovely family lunch here in December. Despite being peak season and very busy the service and the food were great. My toddler devoured the kiddies napoletana pasta. I enjoyed the prawn risotto but it was a bit too lemony. It's very rare to find a restaurant that has an interesting adults menu as well as a big variety for kids. The garden setting is very pretty, and it was fantastic to have an enclosed area for my little girl to play in while we ate.

Exquisite venue, wow service Top class value for money . Thank you for nature @ it's best . Very good waiter ?Mildred. The setting is awesome we had the delicious full house breakfast , champagne (brut l)eft great bubbly feeling on my pallet . Crembrule was superb and milk tart was Aaaah out of this world

Amazing food and GREAT service! Atmosphere is really nice. A good place to take your family. You can also sit by the garden with a bottle of wine :)

As honeymooners, my husband and I yearned for an afternoon at Lourensford for lunch. The only good thing about the place was the food - an essential I suppose for a restaurant - the rest was such a bitter and bizarre experience. First we were met with rude stares from the waitering staff - blank and cold. Then, good old, Josh...our young waiter didn't know what PASTA is. PASTA. One of our highlights though, was certainly the patrons with their sniggering jests, stares that we are convinced were served by the waitering staff and their pointing. Is THAT the general behaviour of staff and patrons? A massive miss.

Had lunch here with my mother &sister and the kids. Lovely play area outside. I ordered the meat & cheese board which says ciabatta on the menu, but ends up being normal while bread which isn't even good. I found a nasty little surprise after finishing half the salad on the plate - leaves covered with eggs!! No apology from the manager after pointing it out.

I absolutely love the interior and the atmosphere of this place. Its very relaxing and the food is of top qaulity. Beautiful sceneries and great service. My favourite dish is the mushroom risottoâ˜ș

When The Millhouse Kitchen opened on the Lourensford wine estate Dave and I went to enjoy a meal. This was two years ago and little has changed. The menu which is rustic Italian with French influences, then and now is inspiring, and the food mostly good. When we went the first time I put the poor service down to them having only just opened, but after our experience on Saturday night this must be a result of lack of interest. The venue is wonderful and during the day you can sit outside and enjoy the amazing view. We sat close to the fire, within site of the open kitchen and far away from the pub area.

Superb food. Beautiful setting. Attentive service. What more could you ask for? Lovely kids play area too. An absolute winner in my mind! Will be back many times...

Amazing place! The food and service were top draw, and the surroundings were beautiful! Lovely experience and I would definitely recommend it..

We did the wine and chocolate tasting that Lourensford offers. The setting is superb, we sat outside in the sun. After the tasting we headed to the Millhouse Kitchen for a late lunch. The decor is delightful. Our waitress was a little rude and I'm not sure if this was because we were a group of four young students. The food was amazing and everyone of us loved our meal. I had the mushroom risotto and can highly recommend it!

We didn't have a booking but took a chance and they helped us with a table no problem. The food was excellent. I had the best creme brûlée I've had in a while hear. It was delicious. The rest of our dinner was just as superb. Great restaurant.

We celebrated Mother's Day lunch for the second year in a row, at The Millhouse Kitchen, on Lourensford Estate. I've always liked the set up of the place, with its large open doors at the bank, and the patio at the front. Seperate rooms allow for different ambiences, and allow children to play freely while parents wine and dine. The actual meal was disappointing. Food was mediocre, from taste to presentation and finish. Food was not as hot as it should have been, and flavours were unimpressive. Service was quite poor, despite the cold food, with more time spent apologising and explaining the reasons for slowness, than actually fetching the required item. Poor knowledge of the wine was especially disappointing given that it's a wine farm restaurant, there should be some inherent knowledge, surely? Overall, we had a great outing to a beautiful farm, but if the weather, grounds and occasion were different, this would have scored lower.

With good food priced with guts, The Millhouse Kitchen is a restaurant on a farm nestled beneath the beautiful mountains in Somerset West. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with good lighting and open-face brick walls. I would take the entire family out to enjoy a lazy night of eating, drinking and having great conversation.

Went for dinner and the food was fabulous, service was average. Beautiful setting. Went for breakfast the portions are so small we had to order extra toast and then still it was the smallest piece of toast I've ever been. So will stick to dinner there!

Great setting, good service, amazing food. Stunning flavours!

Great food! Sunday afternoon lunch and white wine on the patio. I have not been disappointed once. Waiters are well trained and the chef is creative and clever with flavour combinations:)
