Review The Restaurant At Waterkloof - Somerset West

Suerine Stevens
Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish!! We had the taster menu and every bite was interesting and exciting, the presentation is beyond beautiful and the stunning view and decor compliments every aspect of the meal and atmosphere of the restaurant!! The staff are absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable about every single course and drink that they serve, we were fully impressed by the restaurant. The drive up on its own is already beautiful, the architecture of the building is so unique and suits the whole vibe perfectly! I would definitely recommend that everyone enjoy a meal here at least once. My mother wasn't crazy about the more adventurous courses but thoroughly appreciated it for what it was and still enjoyed every moment. The only thing that I personally feel would possibly improve the experience is a non alcoholic drink pairing option but other than that I can 100% see why they were voted the best restaurant in South Africa!!!

Awesome location for a relatively impressive gourmet restaurant. We had a slightly disappointing experience with some of the service though most of the staff attempted to be helpful. The food is quite interesting and dishes are mostly delicious and well prepared. The portions are a little small though even when compared to other high-end gourmet restaurants around Cape Town. Still definitely worth a stop for a bit of fine dining but would recommend an early evening visit to enjoy the stunning views from this beautiful restaurant.

The views can't be beaten. The service is attentive without being overbearing. The food is innovative and flavourful. The wine pairing complemented the food very well and introduced us to a new cellar in a delightful way. A must if you're in the Cape.

What a fabulous, award winning restaurant on top of the hill over looking a wine farm and the sea in the distance.set menus to choose from. Definitely go hungry because the food is superb! A real taste sensation to delight the taste buds. You need to book a table do that you won’t be disappointed if you don’t get in. A must visit when in the Cape.

5 out of 5, but I wouldn't say it's the best in South Africa. Food is good, service is good. No complaints just not the best according to someone that knows almost nothing about fancy fancy food. I wanted some kind of juice paring or something as I don't drink grapes that are old. Some other fancy places offer this. But it had the vibe that if I asked for it it might have been frowned apon. The prawn thing was really good. Cheese thing was not. Venue is also really good.

This place was the highlight of our trip. It is a hidden gem of note. The views are spectacular. The interior is classy. The service is faultless and professional. The food is amazing. Literally cannot fault this venue.
Sten von Kühn
Best experience. Food and service spot on. Come early to enjoy the view. Definitely do the wine package with the tasting. Allow yourself 4h for this to properly enjoy.
Elize Roets
Excellent food. Stunning views. Great service. Great place to go for the celebration of special events like wedding anniversaries and special birthdays.

The absolute best ! Not only was this restaurant awarded as the best in SA, it has the most spectacular views ... a 'must visit' !!

This was one of the best experiences in terms of service, wines and especially the food! Travelling 200 days pr year i eat at many fine restaurants but the food we enjoyed at the Waterkloof blew us away! We can highly recommend this place!

Stayed in Cape Town and lovely drive to this spot with amazing views, friendly staff and something new compared to more traditional vineyards with restaurants. This was my fourth visit and had the degustation menu every time. The food is always well presented, tasty, nice extra treats in between. Wines are local, ok/good quality and matching the food. For a degustation menu it feels a bit too safe/mainstream - it tastes good but more punchy flavours, combinations and ingredients would give this a 5 and this could well be achived. But I'm quite sure I will be back :-)

Quite simply it was stunning! Everything was faultless........the wine, the ambience, the food, the view and the staff. The "Egg 63" - Tête de Moine, onion velouté - is, quite simply, the best first course I have ever eaten and I've been fortunate enough to dine in a number of Michelin 3☆ restaurants........ I have read reviews of people who left hungry - perhaps they should just go to a steak bar????
Elmarie van Loggerenberg
This is by far one of the best meals I ever had... and it just didn't stop there..... we started the evening with a glass of their Rose MCC overlooking the ocean and parts of Somerset West. The sunset from the deck is spectacular and a great photo opportunity. Then we sat down for the meal and a culinary extravaganza began..... from the starters to desserts, it was just one incredible expierence after the other. The presentation of the dishes should prepare you for the different tastes and flavours. It is the place to go if you want a meal that delivers on all promises and an incredible view to round if off.

Always a treat to have lunch here. The food is amazing...the plates are made perfectly..and the food ...the experiences. Your palates go everywhere.. and then the view...Breathtaking. Will visit over and over again....

A wonderful location that offers a unique experience into the intricate world of wine making in the Cape. Fantastic range of wines presented by staff that tell you about how the wines are made. I definitely recommend visiting this beautiful modern estate.
Tracy Stone le Roux
Amazing wines and amazing venue. The views are to die for and the knowledge and service we received from our wine assistant was top class!
Andreas Köhler
Second time at Waterkloof, and it is still amazing. Extraordinary property, special view, well choosen interior and friendly staff. We tried all the white wines (and the rosé too). Most of them are very good, some are outstanding. We needed more than an hour for this tasting and got many information about the wines. Special thanks to Daniel for his pleasant service!
Catherine Hewson-Herring
Exceptional dinner, utterly delicious and beautifully presented food, perfect service by friendly staff, a completely faultless evening......save for the weather....rain rather obscured the view but otherwise 100%. We cannot recommend Waterkloof highly enough.
Chris Lourens
What an awesome experience with views that compliments the amazing food that bursts with flavour and texture paired with some great wines, with attentive service by the front of house hospitality team from our arrival to our departure. This is a definate must for any food lover. It is well deserved of its rating as the 3rd best restuarant in SA. Well done and thank you to the chef and team at Waterkloof for your efforts. We had an awesome evening with some great friends.
Michele Kerr Oosterberg
What a wonderful place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary! The staff are impeccable and the food just out of this world. All of this with a breathtaking view! Could not fault a single thing!
Vanessa Cope
Beautiful space. Great views of Cape Town. The website and posted kitchen hours say the kitchen closes at 2:00pm but we were turned down for lunch at 1:15 even though the tables were not full. Wines were ok, but we had an enthusiastic young host.
Berni Crewe-Brown
Not only is the wine excellent, the professional yet personal experience we received from Adrienne was outstanding and the view and setting is out of this world!
Kirk Lawler
A special occasion was enhanced by great food, awesome service and wonderful ambience. A must-do for foodies, wine lovers and appreciators of beautiful decor.

Had a wonderful food and wine pairing at the number 1 restaurant in South Africa.

The food and the wine pairing was good. I loved the seabass was my absolute favorite of all the dishes. That dish was just amazing and I wanted more. All the food and wine pairing were great but the dessert was a bit disappointing for me.

The Camembert Crème Brûlée lacked a bit of sweetness and that what the dessert is all about for me. I didn't get the Curry biscuit wasn't to my liking. I had a taste of the other dessert the Vanille Bleue. Was so delicious and had a bit of food envy as that one was better than the dessert I have chosen.

Also rather stick to one person to explain the food and wine pairing that is assigned to your table.
Bryan Vally
Simply a perfect fine dining experience. There is nothing to fault. The restaurant and views are incredible, the service was perfect and the food was sublime. Don’t make the mistake I did and skip dessert though. Well worth their place in the top 5 SA restaurants.
Ursula Uys
The food is below par for a fine dining restaurant. The service is awful, we had side plates and used butter knives still on our table when dessert was served. Our wine glasses remained empty for 15-20 minute intervals.
Raeesah Ebrahim
The ambiance and food is simply amazing I must say the flavoured butters are out of this world.
This place is a must try if your a foodie !!

Had the most amazing birthday dinner amongst the beautiful rolling hills of the Waterkloof Vineyard. We were served complementary Sparkling wine on arrival and escorted to our table.
For starters we had the langoustine and king mushroom dishes. The hollandaise source was slightly tangy but otherwise the starters were lovely.
The beef short rib main was perfection and the meat was succulent and well accompanied by various purees. There were limited vegetarian options so the main was quite simple with a medley of vegetables.
For dessert we asked for their most popular which was the whiskey and rum desserts. They were both decadent and rich and a perfect conclusion to our courses. The palate cleansers and concluding sweets were lovely compliments to the meal.
The Foodie Corner
I remember being in high school and my mother would always organize her birthday lunch at Waterkloof. And I remember sitting in the classroom, wishing that I could've came with too! So I was understandably excited when my better half surprised me with a wine tasting and lunch at what is now the third best restaurant in SA! *heavy breathing*

We figured going the 3 course option was going to be more worth our while, since the degustation menu cannot be altered and the whole table has to take it. Instead, we opted for choosing our own happiness. A variety of breads and butters arrived promptly at our table, possibly the largest range of flavors and textures I've seen. Fresh, warm bread, and all the butters you can imagine, from honey butter, to burnt mustard and much more. We were spoilt for choice!

Before our starters arrived, we received a complimentary amuse bouche from the kitchen, which was a delicious creme fraiche "dome" - a bit overpowering flavor for me, but a nice palate tickler. Our starters of asparagus 3 ways and scallop curry arrived. The asparagus was a very interesting dish, and the surprising flavors of asparagus foam and sweet asparagus shards actually worked brilliantly together. The scallop was my favorite dish of the day - the flavors just worked perfectly! Scallop cooked to perfection, curry sauce working perfectly with it. Perhaps a bit too large for a starter, since you just can't resist eating everything!

The mains were the lowlight of the afternoon, although still good quality food. The springbok loin was a better choice than the Mauritian seabass, which I felt had way too much mussel in it. I absolutely loved the idea of a fennel "sausage" filled with broccoli and mussels, but it was difficult to cut through and eat, and with mussels already being on the plate along with the fish, I felt it was overpowered the dish. Also, the gooseberries didn't really work well with the other, saltier flavors of the rest of the dish. The springbok was grilled to perfection - soft and juicy, very difficult to get right. And the other elements on the plate complimented it very nicely, with there being a traditional inclusion of sweeter fruity elements. Perhaps they could incorporate pap, or some creative form of it, into the dish to give it an even more Karoo feel.

We were blown away by the desserts, which started with a pre dessert brownie. We settled for the matcha cheesecake and the grapefruit dessert. The cheesecake was fabulous - I loved the flavor combinations, how the bitter matcha worked lovely with the sweet caramel, and then also a sweet, refreshing citrus sorbet to break through the sweetness. Delicious! The grapefruit was refreshing, although not my type of food. My better half enjoyed the fresh, lightness of it.

We ended off with a trio of after dessert treats, including a sort of milktart profiterole, a delicate chocolate toffee roll and a passion fruit lollipop. Satisfying, indulgent and refreshing, a perfect way to end a top class lunch!

TOP TIPS: Book early to get a seat right by the window - the view is breathtaking! And remember that you need to pay a R300 pp deposit when booking (which is subtracted from your bill later). I recommend coming early and enjoying a wine tasting before your meal - they really do have a fantastic range of wines!

I was extremely disappointed with my visit to the restaurant. The view is breathtaking and the staff very friendly but that is the only good thing I can say about my visit. We are busy doing all the top 10 restaurants in SA and was not disappointed by one until now. The portions of the food is not worth the price you pay. I did not even finish my desert because I was so disgusted I just wanted to leave. The pictures on the website of the food looked amazing but the actual dishes we received was a disappointment. The hostess or manageress is extremely rude and condescending and just disgusted me even more. I will certainly not visit the restaurant again.

Possibly the most beautifully designed restaurant with the one of the incredible views in Cape Town.

The atmosphere is very laid back friendly. As soon as walk in there's a fireplace with a couch around it, which we were offered to have a drink at.

The service is is slick and everyone is welcoming and pleasant, as would be expected with a high ranking restaurant such as this.

We ordered the 3 courses without wine pairing, and because vegetarian options are VERY limited, I opted for 1 starter and two desserts, which was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I had the 'Egg 63' (the dish is centered around and egg cooked at 63°, which is apparently the temperature that yields the best yolk, and it certainly looked and tasted that way)

I had the dark chocolate mousse and white chocolate ivoir for dessert, which were beautifully plated and tastebud-tantalizing.

We were brought a variety of palate cleansers and 'pre' meals throughout the evening, which include pink chocolate layered sorbets and breads with explosively flavoured spreads.

It was a beautiful evening overall, and I'd love to come back again during the daytime.
Jennifer Cochrane-Murray
Was recommended this restaurant and was very disappointed. We left feeling ripped off and some of the guest joked about going to eat a proper lunch as the portions were so tiny and unsubstantial. As much as the food was good, it unjustifiable to pay these prices and leave feeling unsatisfied.

Anyone serving Foie Gras in 2017, needs to wake up to a world where we respect animals and their rights not to be force fed for 12-15 days in a feeding tube.

Driving from GB it is just through the village and then up the mountain path through the vines, up to a magnificent modern design winery. As you enter the building next to a sign of the god of the cold north wind, Boreas, you find the space industrial yet clinical with massive windows to soak up the view over the Helderberg-kom. and False Bay. This fully organic farm they also use a Draught Horse work 9hectares of vinyard to help with carbon footprint. Food is fine dinning and excellent and so is the wine. The tasing room is located right next to the restaurant and the best Hospitality in the whole area!
Circle of life, their flagship range is amazing with a beautiful story on the label.
A must visit if you are in the area!

We had not planned on coming here for lunch so not quite dressed for the occasion. Perhaps this is why we were treated with what felt like a somewhat dismissive behaviour. Although each meal was explained and our server was polite enough, the service was quite abrupt and the friendliness felt forced. We also had to regularly remind that we had requested water or a top up of wine, before it arrived.
Incredible views - so book in advance to ensure you get a table that allows you to enjoy these views. Sitting inside behind the pillars means you loose out.
We opt3d for the set menu with wine pairing at each course. The food was beautiful and well presented with additional treats served. But if I had to be perfectly honest, there are so many brilliant restaurants in Stellenbosch and surrounds, that I truly believe I had better meals elsewhere.
Trevor
Never disappointed at this restaurant.
Consistency is hallmark of excellence
We chose the 3 course menu for R530
Everything and I do mean everything was superb. From presentation to taste to service.
An absolute plus is being able to chose from Waterkloof Circumstance range if wines. Definitely makes the end price more manageable
Do yourself a favour visit here soon!

Absolutely outrageously beautiful setting. World class. Actually breathtaking. Ok enough superlatives.
We had the three course set menu for R420 per head. Choices change regularly according to season and availability.
Presentation was magnificent. And the explosion of tastes incredible.
There were plenty of oh's and ah's at the table. Big bonus is they offer estates own wine - Circumstance Circle of Life Blanc and Circumstance Mourvèdre were our selection. Quite reasonably priced.
Service was spot on - Congratulations 🍾
Treat yourself - truly world class

My favorite restaurant in Cape Town.
Fine dining in the most amazing location.
Food that is innovative and unique.
Reasonably priced.
I recommend this place any day or the week. But it's a must.
Monique
Innovative and mostly delicious. Although I disliked the architecture of concrete, steel and glass as I felt that the atmosphere was not warm, inviting and intimate and looked like an eyesore amongst the beautiful vineyard and mountain setting, I was indeed blown away by the food experience!
The food is not only innovative, it's art on a plate and mostly full of flavour except the mains were a bit of a letdown.
Highly recommended is the Egg 63 which came with the most delicious self pouring onion veloute sauce and the Smiling Valley Marron for starters. I had the Farmed Carmay Quail, which was cooked perfectly and was served with a cabbage pie side, which I was not too fond of. Being a French cuisine inspired restaurant I thought that the dish needed a good French reduction sauce to complement it as it was a little bland and dry. My husband had the Springbok Loin, and thought it was okay, but also felt it could have been uplifted with a "voluntary pouring sauce " as there wasn't much flavor. I had the Grapefruit and Timut Pepper for dessert which was light, full of flavour and a perfect ending. Except, it wasn't the end, we were then served wonderfully innovative petite fours. That rounded off a fantastic lunch for all of us.
My one recommendation is that a self serving French sauce to compliment the main meal for those who want more complex flavour should be on offer. The main courses are rather bland.

Quite disappointing. When we saw that the restaurant was 3rd in South Africa, we jumped at the opportunity to try it. Wines, appearance and service were spectacular. However, we were severely disappointed with the food. Bland and uninspiring. Several restaurants with much lower rankings far surpass the quality of food we were served. Very sad and disappointed, especially after driving through from Cape Town and treating my parents. :(
Ling
Truly amazing experience! The chef really outdone himself with the flavours, unique and creative. To op off the experience, the little dessert tastings Topped off the meal perfectly. Looking forward to coming back for more!
Dino
Possibly one of the best views in the Cape, an architectural masterpiece, serving incredible food with attentive service. Each dish is masterfully plated and a true feast for the eyes and tastebuds. This is one of the Cape's finest. Only negative is the wine list which for me didn't have enough options.
Michelle Van Heerden
I'm probably the only person on this app that doesn't like this restaurant. I've enjoyed many other top 10 restaurants so I feel quite comfortable leaving the comment. A bit of a let down for the price you pay. My sea bass I had for a main course was bland and about a third of the fish was still fairly raw. The other guests had duck breast that was still a bit bloody and not rested properly. The dessert was underwhelming leaving me with no stand out dish. A great view but the pretentiousness of the restaurant left me a bit hungry. I perhaps like bigger flavours than other guests who've left raving comments.
Kyle
This is probably the best restaurant ive ever been at. They are rated 3rd in SA and they most certainly deserve it. We had a 3 course lunch and also wine tasting. They also gave complimentary small treats throughout the meal. For me this is one of the prettiest wine farms in Cape town making the entire experience so special.
Natalia
Definitely more then 5, meals are piece of art. But not really for getting full but more for experience. Knowledgeable waiter. Explained whole manu to us but not to the elderly couple next to us, they were very confused.
Sheryll
WOW! If I could score more than 5 I would.
Honestly can't fault Waterkloof for anything.

One that stood out was the sea bass, it's one of my favourite things to eat and it's extremely rare I have the pleasure of it being cooked to perfection.
Today was one of those days!
Beautiful crispy skin with succulent tender and moist meat. Absolutely heavenly!

Oh and let's talk about how stunning their petits fours are! The raspberry sorbet lollies were a great idea to clean the palette after a super tasty meal.

Top off the wonderful food with friendly and attentive staff plus a STUNNING venue and you have yourself a fine dining experience that stands head and shoulders above the rest!

I thought of a place raved about and decided to spoil my partner upon his return... With none other than Waterkloof restaurant ;) it did not disappoint. The views of Gordon's bay and the mountains are exquisite to say the least! We were lucky enough to enough our evening here on a full moon too so the views carried on "after dark" ;)!

From the moment of stepping inside you are treating with such elegance and care. The kitchen with all the staff were ready with their superbly clean workspace which is open for all to see!

The evening being very chilly had the mid fireplace on and it heated up the place nicely.

Our waiter was very helpful and very friendly. We opted for the 2 course at R370 pp exclusive of drinks. The amuse-bouche was a seafood tartare with avo and lime, amazing !! I went with the Snail and Butternut Ravioli which was bursting with flavor and my partner went with the Coniglio Rabbit Rillettes. I had a taste of his and to me it was a bit bland and more like a pâté kind of dish. None the less it was plated and decorated to perfection. On to the mains .... I tried the Joostenberg Vlakte Duck Breast which was nice and moist cooked to perfection. This dish to me wasn't as great as I was hoping it to be. My parter went with the Gemsbok fillet which he said was also cooked to perfection and tasted great ! Me not being a fan of game I didn't enjoy it, well the piece I tried ;) but again I didn't order it so all good there! We were then treated with petite fours to end things off - chocolate toffee, berry macaron with a custard wrapped berry mousse inside and Carmel sorbet! Absolutely fantastic - the food was more than enough I didn't leave hungry at all!

If you want a lovely view with a fine dining experience definitely do give this place a try! It's beautiful and very classy. Enjoy!

Lovely dinner, service has really improved and truly enjoyed the roaring fire, beautiful restaurant & tasty menu. Definitely recommend this restaurant to others
Raoul
The food and the service is amazing. And to top it off they have one of the most amazing views in the mother city. I recommend to go early for dinner service as you can catch a great sunset. The wine is good and compliments the food well. Bit pricey for everyday but worth every cent

Truly was an Amazing Afternoon on Sunday... The wine paired with our meal was perfect. And Services was Excellent. My Favourite dish of the meal beside the dessert was the Crayfish and hollandaise , a new dish on the menu. It was simply yet so delicious. I'm not a big cheese eater either but the Cheese course was good too . The overall experience was well worth it...

Definitely will go back to have Lunch again.
Olaf Dambrowski
Outstanding and consistent.
Be ready to have your palate tantalized.
Setting breathtaking,service very attentive.
Love the Menu as it changes regularly.

One of the most incredible evenings of my life. The hospitality and generosity of chef Gregory Czarnecki is one I will remember for years to come. The visual feast, the flavor combinations and the attention to fine detail are what make this restaurant world class.
Karine Dequeker
We were lucky to be seated in the "glass box" where the views are spectacular! Food was the best I have had in 3 visits, particularly the lamb main.
Cameron Wood
Absolutely fantastic!! I was lucky enough to be invited to a wedding here last weekend and experience the amazing facility and restaurant at the same time. It's was mind blowing in every way! The food was most likely the best I have eaten at a wedding ever. The view is amazing and made it an incredible event. Can't wait to go back!
Reed Connelly
Waterkloof epitomizes fine dining with amazing wines. A special occasion treat that lives up to the hype. I have never been disappointed and instead have always been impressed with what this restaurant has to offer.
Alex
The most incredible views and food - very modern atmosphere, extremely friendly service and beautifully plated food, which tastes just as amazing as it looks.
Andre Santos Ferreira
I had very high expectations before entering this restaurant. My wife, parents in law and I had a wonderful experience. The service was of a high standard with the waiter providing recommendations and answering our questions impeccably. I had the Norwegian Salmon Starter which was delicious with an ingenious play with textures with the asparagus and white caviar. The main meal which I ordered was the duck with beetroot puree which was a wonderful combination. The chef provided two amuse bouche tasters which was a pleasant surprise and both very tasty. All the above made for a very memorable evening of great fine food with excellent views of Somerset West. I would recommend anyone to go there at least an hour before sunset.
Christina Sardianos
Wine tasting here is divine and the view is even more divine! Feels like you've stepped into a dream! Lovely drive up into the mountain and greeted by wonderful staff that are more than excited to educate you on their amazing wine selection. Definitely a must!
Romi Diamond
The wine, the food, the view is outstanding. Really a superb dinning experience. We will be returning to taste the rest of the menu. All round excellence!!!

Fine dining with a view! Wonderful dishes, sorry, cant remember the names :) Sea bass for mains was delicious. Service was knowledgable and attentive. Wine selection is a bit limited but not toooo bad. Lovely view!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Zandri is the most delightful hostess. Her passion and sincerity were a breath of fresh air. Then we were joined by Anneke for sundowners. A perfect afternoon.

And now we sit enjoying our Cape Coral - my husband's new favourite.

We had such a fabulous time. Thank you for your hospitality.

Beautiful food, beautiful wine, beautiful view! Always an absolute pleasure to see what amazing dishes Chef Gregory Czarnecki and his team come up with. The presentation and attention to detail are out of this world (not to mention the wine pairing - thank you Nadia Barnard)! Nothing goes unnoticed or unappreciated.

Waterkloof is without a doubt one of my favourite wine farms with one of my favourite restaurants. Every time I have the pleasure of eating Chef Gregory Czarnecki’s food I fall a little bit more for his culinary genius. Waterkloof is synonymous with fine dining and exquisite wines.

We started with a little amuse bouche of a Marron fritter with salt and butterscotch sauce , truffle mayonnaise and shiitake crumble. Marron is a fresh water crayfish kind of thing and it is unbelievably delicious!
Our starter for lunch was the Norwegian salmon gravlax with fennel sorbet, cultured cream, clementine, roasted lemon and hay smoked onion. The gravlax was superb and the cold fresh fennel sorbet paired perfectly with the rich salmon.

The foie gras terrine with hibiscus jelly and sheeting, quince and saffron compressed apple was a sneaky second starter. When the dish arrived the whole table gasped. It looked like a birthday party on a plate. A surprise birthday party!

Main course was karoo lamb with aubergines and a pepper cannelloni stuffed with pepper ragout. I don’t normally order or cook lamb myself so sometimes its delightful to have someone decide for you and land up with a top notch lamb dish.

We unfortunately did not have time for dessert but luckily could sneak in some petits fours! My favourite was the balls of crunchy choux pastry stuffed with creamy passion fruit curd. As you bite into the choux pastry the passion fruit curd explodes in your mouth – sweet and tart all at once. The orange blosson macaron was perfectly shelled and stuffed. And the citrus Turkish delight was one last sweet taste goodbye!

All details now up on the blog:

Evverything about Waterkloof oozes elegance. It is beautiful! The wine is some of my favourite in the area. We unfortunately did not have time to have a meal, but I most definitely will be going back! The service is exceptional and the scenery is breathtaking. I highly recommend that you pay it a visit for lunch and try all the wine.

There are various seating areas that would cater perfectly for an intimate lunch or big affair.

The Restaurant at Waterkloof Wines has to be our favourite restaurant to visit. Not only for the spectacular view, but also because Chef Gregory Czarnecki continues to wow us with his dishes time and time again. Valentines Dinner. Wine and Alcohol. Wines available are from the estate and are served in decanters. I like this touch, especially with the white wine which is placed into a bowl of ice. The staff are well able to recommend wines for your meal, and the menu includes wine pairing options. Sparkling and still water is complimentary. Dave and I always start our evening with Steenberg Méthode Cap Classique and end our meal with port.

Waterloof review – wine tasting & winter platter 9 August2015

As you arrive at Waterkloof wine estate you are greeted by none other than Mother Nature in her truest form. You cannot help but want to stop the car as you make your approach up the long driveway to Waterkloof. There, as your eyes stretch across the vineyard your gaze moves from the green and fertile land to the oceanic seaviews. On the other side you have the ever spectacular Helderberg mountain range standing tall and gentle holding the area, cradling it.

After walking through the doors of Waterkloof you are just as pleased by what this place has to offer. Friendly and gracious staff are there to meet you with an eagerness to make your visit a memorable occasion. Seating various to suit their clients mood. There are tables and chairs carefully situated to take full advantage of the wonderful views. There are elegant couches and sophisticated single chair couches for the people not accompanied by a crowd. Even so, for a person out alone or the groups of people out for the day, the establishment truly makes everyone feel like they are there to stay.

The décor is well thought out, not cluttered but just enough to appreciate what is there for showcase. Steal artworks match the earthy, metallic and rustic taste of the wine being served. A hearty fireplace to cosy up too in the chill wind brushing over the ocean.
The Natural architecture compliments the surroundings yet it has also been adorned with modern-day finishes. Panoramic windows encompass the views as if you are there to look upon it contemplating life's greatest philosophies. The wine cellars are also visible but very well kept and clean, it has a sort of contemporary industrial look to it that is very fashionable and shows a more simpler side to life.

The bronze plated light fixtures facilitate the burning flames. Each colour, each piece of furniture carefully placed to either contrast or compliment something else in the room, even if it is you. With the crackling of the fire and the voices of the other customers you would expect to not even be able to hear your own thoughts yet something about staring into the flames with a lovely glass of the flagship wine, the world just seems to get kind of quiet.

The restaurant has an open plane kitchen to watch all of the chefs carefully create each dish and plate their perfect meals of artwork. An open plan kitchen is a very tricky thing which Waterkloof seems to get just right. The chefs are there to do more than just grill, they are there to supply inspiration, a journey and a taste of another world. The idea is to allow food to be an experience, something more than just eating, a sublime and wonderful feeling to ponder over your meeting.

Overall Waterkloof is built on serene and masculine foundations with feminine finishes. Spacious and bold yet gentle and detailed. It is the perfect combination to appeal to every sense. Whether in seek of strength or a softer touch, each need can be meet if you just allow yourself to open up.

Waterlook is a place to watch, reflect and participate in the Circle of Life.
This is a perfect example of a fine dining experience! Took my mom for lunch there for Mother's Day and we were amazed by the beautiful architecture, spectacular views, great wines and equally fantastic food! It's an experience & a half! So worth the try!

The Waterkloof “restaurant in the sky” is elegant and stylish. Once inside you are met with an area that is light, fresh and welcoming. From the comfortable leather furniture and open fireplace in the tasting lounge, to the floor to ceiling glass walls that offer views of the cellar and estate below, to the crisp white table settings in the restaurant, it is very hard not to appreciate the sheer architectural brilliance of this award-winning space.

We were treated to an amazing food and wine experience… I say experience because Chef Gregory Czarnecki has managed to create food that captivates all five senses. Each dish has been carefully thought out and planned. Every tiny little detail has been considered – from flavour to texture to sight. He uses only the freshest ingredients and adds his own unique spin to his food with things like savanna foam, red pepper crumbs and green pea custard.

We were blown away by the different flavours and textures in each dish. Every mouthful had just the right amount of balance, crunch or smoothness it needed. The attention to detail on each plate is incredible and the passion of all things food rings loud and strong… but it’s not only the food that deserves praise – the wine is a hero in its own right and is paired beautifully with each meal, making the experience that much sweeter.

The service is exceptional. The staff are very passionate and proud of what they do and their knowledge and friendliness shines through as they talk you through the menu and wines on offer. You are encouraged to take your time, savour the food journey and enjoy a leisurely afternoon or evening with them. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious – even though you are sitting in a lush fine dining restaurant.

This is a dining experience like no other… each plate of food is a masterpiece of sensory perfection.

An unbelievable afternoon of food and wine with a backdrop of views for days. We promised the team that we would starve ourselves for the next month and return for the 6 course degustation menu!

French cuisine and fine dining at its best. Hands down the best restaurant I have been to in Cape Town! Spectacular views of the wine lands, sea and city. The food was a tastebud explosion and presented so beautifully I didn't know whether to frame it or eat it! Highly recommend it and surprising well priced!

The atmosphere is alive with occasion, there are views for miles around through the giant vineyard facing cube that occupies an entire side of the restaurant. You can hear the chef keep the line chefs work like a well oiled machine. The service is impeccable and only bested by the food. we had the degustation menu and each course was more beautifully presented and delicious than the next, well worth the price for a special occasion.

Super surprising lunch . We were delighted with the tasting menu. The effort and creativity was truly evident. Well done to the team. Front of house was slick and polished, without being fussy. *****

Stunning location on a hill overlooking the bay and wine lands. Truly one of the most awesome buildings / settings for a restaurant. Some people at our table thought the Scottish salmon starter was disappointing with poor presentation. But each dish i chose was amazing, i recommend the springbok loin for mains. If you chose the three dishes you also receive a pre-starter , palate cleanser and Pre- desert all for R360. During our time there the was a liquor license issue so we could take our own wine free of charge. It is a great experience .

Most underwhelming lunch I've had in years. Under seasoned food, service was painfully slow. Of the three main dishes chosen at our table, only one was enjoyed, and the desserts were good. The view is incredible, I'll give them that, but I've had better food in far more humble places. Won't be going back.

By far the best food I'd ever had. Being a boutique restaurant with a 6 course meal you can never eat to satisfaction but every course is worth every cent. I absolutely love it.

Wine with a view; just spectacular ambiance! Must do it even just for the views
