What a great little pub. Kevin created such an amazing vibe with all the oldies being played....especially Yellow Submarine (Simonstown Shebeen). Will definitely revisit when back in town.
Awesome historical place. Great service and worth a visit. Will go back again.
Lovely fun vibe and great way to get to know the locals! The drinks are very reasonable priced and the food is simple for those who are just looking for a toasted sandwich :)
You get places that try and look like Ye Olde Taverns by building regular houses and then clearly just pasting rocks and wood panelling around the outside, which are upsetting and bad. This place is sort of the opposite; they carved and plastered a regular rectangular room out of the inside of an actual old tavern. It's strange, but nice.
The Two and Sixpence Tavern
This lively English style tavern situated on the main road in Simon's Town is part of the Simon's Town heritage - Been on the block since 1902 and was built for Cecil John Rhodes I’ve been told.
The quaint little pub has always been a local (Navy) favourite, as well as a good stop over for the thirsty back packer brigade.
Over the years this venue has been through many a transformation, without losing any of its appeal.
'New' addition is the 'Captains Table' which is an extension of the current venue, situated upstairs (behind the bar and up the stairs) where one is offered views of the Naval dockyards and the Yacht club. A decent venue and applicable menu for parties / functions of up to 50.
Have yet to be seated at 'The Captains Table' - review to follow.
As for downstairs, the vibe is always friendly albeit somewhat loud, come weekend nights.
Have enjoyed meals off the Pub / down stairs menu on the odd occasion and can say, they satisfy and curb the hunger. Burgers and steak rolls have done it for me. Big, bold and packed with flavour.
In Summary - The Two and Sixpence will probably be around for another 100 years so i have made a diary entry to revisit within the next 10 or so. Doubt that much will have changed.
The Draft beers will still be chilled, the food will be good, navy staff will still be present, and most of all you will leave with a few good memories.
Suggest you visit - if only once.
Thanks Again.
