Review Cafe Pescado - Simon's Town

Really generous portions of good food in an interestingly decorated cafe restaurant. The service was friendly but rather slow.

What a wonderful evening! Staff were super helpful and friendly! We had a table of 8 and we hadn't booked but they pulled tables together for us to accommodate us. Food was devine! Pizza, good! Burgers, good! Fish, good! Couldn't fault a single thing.

Very friendly and warm staff. Big pizza selection. I'm not a fan of South african style pizza, however the pizza was decent. The Greek salad was tasty. The pudding is to die for and don't miss best Italian style coffee. The service is a bit slow. I will come back to try other food

Very tasty authentic Italian pizza, made with a wood burning pizza oven. My wife wanted spaghetti arrabiata, which was not on the menu, and they made it perfectly without a fuss. Very well priced food items.

I had the best mussels in my life here. Huge & fresh mussels!

If you want fast food, don't go here. If you want amazing food with small town atmosphere, this is the place for you. Thanks so much for a delightful experience.

My friend and I went to Cafe Pescado’s because the captain on our shark dive pointed us there. We arrived and immediately was met with smiles from all the faculty. The service was exceptional!!! We asked for recommendations for South African Wines. She brought out taste samples for us to try. They have fire oven pizza hand-made. We had the Jamaican with extra cheese and chicken added. It is by far the best pizza we’ve eaten in along time!! I give this place a 6 star, but I’m limited to only 5.

Very good atmosphere with a view of the harbour and ocean. Tasty stone oven pizzas...nice thin base and good amount of toppings. Friendly staff...support local 💕

Only restaurant open later in simonstown. Food is good. Pasta alfredo would benefit from a little more salt. Rest was good

Work the wait - one of the tastiest pizzas I've had. They were generous with the toppings. I got the feeling that the restaurant was slightly understaffed, but the waitresses were friendly and tried their best despite that.

Good place to have beer and enjoy with friends. Idle time is evening and night. The ambience is nice. Good views and a pleasent environment. You can take your kids too. Must visit this place if you are coming to Simon's Town. You must try the pizza if you coming here.

Dated decor and not much ambience... but the absolute hands-down BEST seafood pizza anywhere in the world, and our no.1 reason to trek from Cape Town to Simonstown every time we visit the Cape.

Wow. What an incredible experience. We rocked up at 23:00. Our waitress was at the end of her shift and probably exhausted. She still greeted us with a massive smile and made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious! Our waitress Samantha was incredibly accommodating, and provided some of the best service I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The entire place feels homey and all the staff are incredibly helpful. 10/10 Will be back! Not to mention when we phoned to say we might not make it they offered to keep the kitchen open for us. Now that's Customer service.

Thanks to the management and staff of Pescados who hosted a group of 15 of us for a birthday and retirement function. The pizzas, snacks, dessert and cake was outstanding as was the hosting.

We are fellow Indian and Coloured South Africans from Johannesburg, it was our first time visiting Cape Town, so we were very excited to pass through Simons Town, on our way back we stopped at the cafe for coffee and dessert and from the moment we approached it, a white patron standing at the counter stared us down as if we didn't belong there. We continued because we thought not everybody is racist, but to our disappointment a few tables with white patrons were looking petrified that we were there. Even the watrons were nervous around us and wanted us to sit at the bar area which was less appealing than the dining area but I insisted on the dining area. The white family next to us kept staring at us angrily (literally), but being proud South Africans we held our ground and finished our desserts but it was a huge disappointment to have such a negative experience. As South Africans of a New South Africa, we accept our history, both good and bad, and want to experience the beauty of these old towns as free individuals together with our fellow South Africans, white, black, coloured, indian, but stepping into this place was like stepping back in time to apartheid, and the owners need to do something to better the ambience, I saw one other non white person with their white partner, which shows people moving forward, but these little old towns need to move forward to. With regard to the desserts, they were awesome. The cafe is old in style and retains that classic feel. I would return if the ambience can change.

Quaint is the best way to describe Cafe Pescado
Filled with bric-a-brac it screams sleepy little sea side village
One of the few establishments open on a Sunday before Heritage Day
Staff were friendly and helpful although the wait was considerable
Food was average at best

Been to Pescado twice. This time for my birthday. The pizza is amazing. The base is crisp and ingredients are fresh. I always sit in the outside section, there is a garden with gnomes, a mermaid, frogs and toadstools. Perfect first date restaurant.

Not happy with my experience on Monday 28/08/2017. My girlfriend and I ordered our starters and milkshakes when we were seated. She ordered the mussels and I the crumbed squid tentacles. After about 10 minutes the waiter came with her milkshake but not mine.I know it takes a while to make them so I do not mind waiting for it, but only then he informs me that they do not have the flavour which I wanted. But I left it because we were there to enjoy the evening just like we did the previous time. I ordered a fanta orange instead. When our starters came we ordered our main course so that they can prepare it so long. She had the beef burger with a cheese sauce and I the sirloin steak with a pepper sauce. I specifically told the waiter that I wanted it Rare. Before he left I reminded him that it must be Rare. The mussels were tasteless and the sauce was so little the probably could have just left it as well. The tentacles were like rubber and not pleasant at all. When he came to take away the plates he asked us if he can bring the main course and we said yes. I decided to forget about the starter because I was really looking forward to having a nice steak and told my girlfriend that I am sure it will make up for the starter. After about 30min the waiter came and told us it will be there in 2 mins. After another 20 min I asked him how long it will be and he said another 2 min. After about another 20 min the beef burger came out and he said my steak is on the way. After about 5 min I told my girlfiend to start eating because her food was starting to get cold. Couple more minutes my food came out. I immediately took the steak off the hotplate it is served on to cut it open because I did not want it to cook even more. After cutting the steak it was way overcooked to the point where it is more medium-well. Our waiter came to "check" on us after 5min where I told him I would like to speak to the manager because of our whole experience so far. He asked if he can take my steak back and I said no because I wanted to speak to the manager and show him/her myself. I waited 15 minutes and asked him again to speak to the manager and he replied just 2 more minutes. After another 10 min he walked past and at this point I could not take it anymore. I asked for the bill, said I will not be paying for the steak seeing that I did not even have one bite or chip frok my plate. He left, brought the bill, at least everything was right on the bill, we paid and left. I understand the food sometimes take longer than expected, but I am very disappointed in the manner it was handled. The food was terrible and the service non-existant. I will understand if it was busy but we were one of 4 tables. Very disappointed!

Popped in for a take away pizza as I have yet to find 'the one' pizza take away this side of the mountain. It wasn't bad. The service was great and the restaurant looked inviting enough. May be back for a date night in the future.

Lovely restaurant, service a bit slow however the food was worth the wait! I had pasta marinare - absolutely delicious!! First time visit, will definitely be back!!

We visited Cafe Pescado twice over the weekend and each time we received the friendliest most efficient service!! Both times we were greeted and served by the friendliest waiters, even if it was past 21h00. The food was average, but for us the service definitely made up for it!

Nothing like what it used to be. Charge for garlic and chilli, base is really terrible and paid a crazy amount. A real pity. Waiter also couldn't have cared less that the food was bad and avo rock hard.

Pescado's has been an age-old (tradition) institution in Simon's Town. So I "grew up" here, learning to appreciate proper woodfired pizza, made by Italian or French hands. They still exist, serving very well prepared & tasty wiidfired pizzas and creamy pasta dishes. Their wines are proudly South-African, from our beautiful Cape Winelands, with locallt produced beer. Pescado's is also known for their hearty, fresh & colourful green & greek salads. A nice family & friends night out, or when the English are in town for their summer holiday. A Very nice, good & jolly pizza & pasta meeting (eating) restaurant.
