I am told I am probably the greatest critic. Considering I never really eat Indian food out ( as mum's cooking is the best), this is great South Indian food, as close to a Durban home cooked meal as you can get, in a great setting - a vibe not unlike what you would experience sitting at a restaurant in Soho, London. Today I had the Fish Roe and Lamb curry and it was superb!
I had the Prawn curry and I can simply say that it was the best I’ve had in any Indian restaurant in SA. The Tarka Dhal is also close to to the best I’ve had in India.
This restaurant is highly recommended. The service was great and we didn’t have to wait long for our food
It was my 1st time there, recommended by a good friend. Went for dinner it was very busy which says a lot about the place. The waiter was super friendly and helpful with menu choices. We started with some tapas which were excellent followed by the lamb, chicken and prawn curry which were the best i ever had. Will be back soon.
Best Indian food in my life! Excellent service by Anthony, our waiter. Nice cosy restaurant and never an empty table. Will definately visit again
Great meal. Probably the best I've had in SA! Not ashamed to say I ordered a 2nd portion of the Paneer Pea Curry! :) The spices and spice-blends were superb.
Great, helpful waitrons too!
So unbelievably hospitable! The food was divine and the flavours authentic. The atmosphere and decor add to the experience of originality and creativity.
We had the most delicious, authentic southern Indian meal at Sundoo yesterday, not since visiting South India a few years ago have we had such a delicious meal.
Service was great and menu is well priced.
Thanks Seelan :) Definitely recommending this restaurant to all of my friends.
Authentic South African Indian at its very best. Outstanding food and great service. My favourites: crab curry, prawn curry, mutton curry, mutton kebab curry, chicken curry. Basically everything!

Quite possibly my favourite restaurant in Cape Town. Great location, good service and the food is simply superb. Never disappoints.
Had an excellent lamb bunny chow, crammed with meat that broke apart even before it got to my mouth, the service was excellent, and while the portion size was large, the price was very reasonable. I will definitely be coming back!
I love the group... from Seelan to Sundoo I am always welcomed with respect and the biggest smile... Sundoo is intimate and the food is indian cuisine at its best... And the staff is special people... I love the spot!!
Great place. In PE I have Krish's place Royal Delhi, in DBN it is the hotel on the beachfront. I have always looked for a curry place in CT and this is it. Well done Seelan.
Absolutely the best Latte and vibe in Sespoint.
Food incredible and a very good class clients
Best Indian restaurant. Service and food was excellent. Thanks to Gonny .Will definitely come again.
Great place to be!
I popped in on NYE, wasn't expecting much at 11pm, but I had the BEST service and GREAT food! I had the Kerala Roasted Chicken, it came with rice. It was absolutely delicious. When the clock hit midnight I was given a glass of champagne (I should of asked what it was cause I hate champagne and this was GOOD) it was welcoming. As a Black American women I had some less than friendly interactions in Cape Town, but Sundoo showed me love and it was the perfect ending to my holiday.
Food is really great! Tastiest Indian Food I have eaten in Cape Town. The service was fantastic and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Not like a normal Indian Restaurant. Cant wait to go back!! Try the Masala Chops
The service was quirky and they didn't have any of the cocktails on the menu or the crayfish and crab curry which we wanted BUT what we did have was AMAZING. The prawn was way too small in the prawn chilli bite but the taste was great. The lamb chops were so delicious and moreish and the prawn curry was very flavourful and not rich and heavy like other indian restairant. Will definitely be back when in CT again.
Finally tried this spot after a few of my friends had told be about it. Everything was great. The ambience was awesome, polite and professional looking staff, excellent food and it was sooooo affordable! You MUST try all the samoosas. They are literally the best I’ve ever had. So satisfying to go out and experience such.
The Husband and I had lunch here today. On arrival, we were eagerly greeted by the waiter Gonnie who’s an ex-Durbanite and chatted up a storm with my husband. We started with veg samoosas which were average until we added the special Sundoo sauce. That really upped the taste and enhanced the flavour. I had the lamb curry with rice which was delicious and tasted like traditional Durban style food. I ordered the medium and it was the perfect spice level for me. Only issue is the rice that comes with it is way too little for the amount of curry. The Husband had the mixed veg curry and enjoyed it. It is a small restaurant so make a reservation as it seems to fill up quite quickly. The vibe at lunch time was already great so I can imagine what it must be like for supper. We will visit again 😊
This place is amazing! Food is incredible! Service is fantastic! They ran out of two dishes we ordered and we didn’t need to re-order anything as the chef made us some custom dishes not on the menu and wow! They were even tastier than those on the menu!
Amazing food! We keep going back for the Kingklip curry and buttery paratha. The service is great too. If you can't decide to go on the seapoint strip, choose Sundoo! Highly recommend it!
Service was very good. Food was spicy and a MUST for anyone who enjoyed Indian cuisine! I paid via Zapper and gave the waiter a generous tip, but left a bit disgusted when the waiter was disappointed that I did not give him a cash tip.
This is a must for visitors and capetonians alike! Food tasted great. Excellent service. Went here with a local friend (who happens to be indian) and he commented that the food was as close to home cooking as he's ever had! The manager was attentive, helpful and present. I will definitely go back here again when next i visit cape town!
Finally a good Indian place in Cape Town. The best curry I have had since being here. The vindaloo is really hot if you enjoy that kind of thing.
A refreshing take on Indian cuisine, a mixture of local Indian classics and traditional South Indian dishes presented in a tapas style meal. As a party of 3 we opted for the trio of lamb bunny chows, the fried chops which also came in a portion of 3 and a helping of the lamb briyani. The service was good and food arrived promptly, we were given the 3 options of mild, medium or hot and decided on hot. The food was spicy but still manageable and tasted Devine, the meat was tender and all meals perfectly balance with the medley of spices used. Had I not planned on going out later I would have grabbed a copy of the chef/owners cookbook but I plan on returning when in Cape Town again, heck I may even return before I leave!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Service was excellent Food arrived in the time specified We took take aways and it is presented in a smart box Still hot when we took it back to Camps Bay I had the chicken curry as a bunny and was not disappointed It was delicious Not too strong and not too mild Just perfect Another group member ordered the lamb bunny and it was strong but again, simply delicious Will def be back for more
Other curry options include kebab and beans but kebab not available as a bunny
Options the curries one could have besides as a bunny are biryani, plain white rice or roti
I loved the food!
Really amazing food! Excellent service!! We love Indian food and this place was absolutely delicious!!! We recommend this place to all Indian food lovers!!
Authentic South Indian food with a twist. Utterly scrumptious. Tried the fish curry, lamb curry, chicken curry. The food was fresh and so so delicious! Definitely will be back!
I really am a tough customer when it comes to a lamb curry, and I can say without a doubt that was one of the best I've ever had. Delicious flavor and cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere too, friendly staff and really nice bathrooms. Highly recommended.
Excellent service and the staff is really friendly. The food is outstanding, I'd define recommend the lamb curry and the duck curry. What a little gem in Sea Point. Can't wait to come back!
Excellent lamb bunny chow. Fresh and delicious. This was authentic curry. Lovely atmosphere. Gentle music at an easy listening volume.Thank-you Chef Jenny and waitress Thandi.
Ok I'll admit it - I've been dying to try this restaurant out! Having walked passed several times and having heard so many wonderful things my boyfriend and I finally made a stop last Friday. So impressive! The interior is gorgeous - minimalistic with a touch of heritage. The staff are also so nice and well versed. We had a few questions and our super attentive waiter had no problem guiding us through the menu. We ordered the Prawn chillibites, lamb samoosas and chicken curry roti trio. The chillibites and rotis were good, but I have to say the samoosas are a must! Flavorful and filling. Next time we will definitely try out the mains and dessert options
Sundoo is very small Indian tapas restaurant, making them slightly unique. Arriving there, we were greeted by the friendly staff. We were seated immediately. They have quite a large drinks menu, including different types of wines and craft beers. We tried the Striped Horse Pale Ale and it was really good!
I really could not decided what to eat, since everything looked so good. Fiancé and I decided to share the Mini Trio Roti's. They were quite tasty, but I definitely recommend trying the Mini Trio Bunny. My friends had it and I would definitely have that next time! All the flavours are just amazing! For mains, we shared the Kavarati Chicken Curry. I really enjoyed all the flavours again, but I would say that they could serve a little more chicken with the meal. Also, it looks like a lot of food, because the chicken is one the bone. Personally, I am not a big fan of chicken on the bone, so that was a bit disappointing.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian food and just want to try something new. I really love the tapas idea. It would be good to be a big group of friends and share all the tapas.
Finally tried out Sundoo! Great atmosphere and vibe from the waiters. We dived straight into mains, Sashen and I shared the trio of lamb bunnies and a chicken dish. Loved the lamb bunnies, only wish we ordered hot as medium was still to bland for us. The chicken was good, slightly salty but still enjoyable. For dessert we had soji, my all time favorite. The soji itself was a bit to grainy, I like more moist but luckily the ice cream on the side helped with that.
Loved my time here!
The decor is sublime and the service is flawless. Knowledgeable staff that have clearly been trained well
Best samosas I have ever had, with a super flaky pastry.
Delicious curry - I had the prawn and tomato curry, hot. I like hot food and thought the hot was a good heat, may try the vindaloo next time. The food was very tasty and very dimensional flavor profiles.
Squid starter was tasty, as was the lime pickle.
Very cosmopolitan, upmarket vibe. Mostly older clientele
Definitely come back
Nice cute little spot along Sea Point main road. The food presentation is lovely and I'm always a fan of an open styled seating arrangement where you can see outside. Friendly staff and overall a pleasant experience.
(Originally rates as 4.5 but thought about it again... and definitely 5 stars!!) Just finished scoffing down my lamb bunny chow - absolutely bloody brilliant!! Think one of the best I have found in my 4 years of living in Cape Town. Bearing in mind I'm from Durban so I know a good bunny, Sundoo was definitely a 9 out of 10!! With a few potatoes added, it definitely would have been 10 out of 10 in my books. Highly recommended!
Great Restaurant! We have been here for dinner and had a lovely time. The tapas are really good! Some are very spicy, but we loved it:) Great food and Service. Although I am normally not a big fan of Indian Food, I really enjoyed this dinner!
Great looking place and nice vibe. We had the fish samosas which were the daily special and shared the prawn curry which were both delicious! Very friendly staff, would definitely recommend for anyone wanting Indian good full of flavor.
One of the better Indian fusion restaurants that we have frequented.
A little pricey but the dishes are more creative than the run of the mill Indian restaurant and coupled with a pleasantly detailed interior desinged decor, and a very knowledgeable waitress, we were duly impressed with its overall value.
We tried a mix of tapas including samoosas and a prawn main, all very tasty without being overpowering.
The restaurant is cosy with limited seating and no reservations, so make sure you get there early
Highly recommended.
What a lovely discovery ... Live close by and will be an absolute regular at this wonderful little establishment .. Good food good friends and happy ..
Came across this amazing restaurant while walking down the main street in Sea Point. Popped in and eventually managed to land a table an hour later.
Despite being billed as Indian tapas, the tapas menu was rather limited and veered toward a standard Indian menu. This is not a bad thing though.
Their flavours are bright, bold and wholesome. I loved the balance of spice and heat. But moreover, I loved that their food was reminiscent of home cooking while being presented in a modern and contemporary design.
We had the trio of chicken bunny chow, Amma's lamb and the trio of lamb vindaloo on roti. All three dishes were flawless.
Definite must visit if you're in the neighbourhood, and worth the trip if you're not.
Everything was absolutely delicious - especially the chicken breyani, it was magical. Really cool decor and atmosphere, it's a must.
Brilliant little Indian restaurant.
Often the trouble with Indian food is, you struggle to choose between the menu items. This little place makes it easy because they offer half portions. So we ordered a couple starters and three half portions of curry and it was perfect for two people.
The food quality is great! The proteins were all cooked perfectly, including the prawns and the fish. The sauces tasted fresh and completely individual to the type of curry, often I find they can become similar when lots of spices are used.
The wine list is short but they have an adequate section and it's reasonably priced.
The service was quick, friendly and efficient. The decor and ambiance was extremely comfortable. A really great addition to sea point.
Better than I expected after reading the reviews. The tables are tiny so we sat up on the bench facing Regent St. Yeah the portions are on the smallish side but they are full of the great full flavours you'd expect from well made Indian food. The service was pretty good, food came out all at once & looked great. At R500+ for 3 dishes & a bottle of wine, would I go back? hmmmm maybe, I think there are better value Indian eateries in CPT but this one isn't too bad.
Curries were on point. Great price for what you get. Small little cosy restaurant with a personal touch. Owner was one of the waiters, making the service great. He was entertaining. We were there on a Sunday evening and it was buzzing. Overall great place. My only issue being that the place cannot host a big group. Max up to 4 per table.
I ate there on a Friday night with 3 friends. We had the sweet potato and pea samosas with chutney, as one of our starters,3 on a plate with a small glass jar of chutney. Delicious with a minty aftertaste and beautifully presented. We also ordered the trio of rotis one prawn and one lamb both delicious but very strange that when you are ordering a trio you have to have 3 of the same rotis, I would expect to get 3 different types of rotis on one platter. The baby squid heads were our last starter which had a great sauce but I did not enjoy the texture, too rubbery ,but my one friend thought it was perfect. We enjoyed the flavour of the curries so much that we ordered lamb and prawn curry as our mains again. The portions of the curry are not huge but big enough if you are having 3 courses. I did not enjoy the fact that the lamb curry had two huge bones which took up most of the space in the serving bowl, which left us with very little meat. However, the flavour and tenderness was amazing - melt in your mouth meat. The prawn curry was awesome with tomato based curry sauce. We also ordered the oven roasted veg with paneer which did not look or taste oven roasted but was still cooked to perfection and tasted scrumptious and fresh. We had mango lassi for dessert which is a champagne flute of light, fluffy yoghurt drink with hints of mango and coconut, I enjoyed it. The wines were reasonable priced @
+- R150 per bottle but the spirits ( we had gin& whiskey ) were quite pricey but they were great brands. Overall for me it was a good experience; good food, lovely decor, wonderful attentive waiters ( one brought my drink outside for me when I went outside for a breather between courses!) with a good vibe. I will definitely go back👍 They do not take bookings and the restaurant is quite small so I would suggest big groups on busy nights.
Indian tapas with a twist - this place is a must. The service makes this place iconic. Starters of patha-puri were delicious. The lamb bunny and the kebab & Roti were disappointing, however the fish bunny (yes!) was killer good ! Can't wait to go back :)
We really enjoyed the food here! The place is quite small and although their Facebook page says otherwise, they don't take bookings! Although the food was delicious and authentic the service left us with a weird taste in our mouths! The waiter was a bit sassy with an odd sense of humor that came off a rather rude! We would definitely go back to give their food another try! Hopefully with a different waiter!
Tried the new kid on the block, Sundoo.
First I attempted to make a booking, and when I called they said they do not accept bookings - I was a bit confused because their Facebook page says otherwise...
Anyway, I decided to go early because the few times that I've driven past it's been packed (but then again it's not a very big resturant).
Despite being pretty empty, the service was not great and the food came out in drips and drabs.
The meal was decent and tasty but a bit on the pricey side for such small portions. My best dish was the puri pitta and the squid. And my least favourite / I was disappointed in the trio of bunny / roti. You expect a trio to give you variety, isn't that the whole point? But instead of getting three flavours, you have to order the trio in one option / flavour.
While I liked the decor, the tables are super small! Like literally, there was no space for any of the food we ordered. Which is quite ironic when it's a tapas resturant and you should be ordering lots of little dishes / appetizers.
Landed up not staying for any main meals or dessert...
The Food is outstanding. The atmosphere is excellent. The management seems good. The waitering staff leave room for improvement. We will come back!
The food was amazing, the service was great and the restaurant looks very cool. I enjoyed my desert at an Indian restaurant for the first time in my life. We almost couldn't get a table on a Tuesday night, which is a good sign, so I would try get there early if you're going on a busy night. My favorite item was the prawn chili bites although it was all awesome.
One of the Best bunny chows Ive eaten in Cape Town. Brimming with iconic DBN flavour. Served in a traditional half a loaf of fresh white bread, with a smile and good vibes. No surprise why they have lasted for so long. Quality and excellence.
One of Cape Town's best Indian restaurants that sticks true to it's promise of flavour, spice, and authentic Indian cuisine. The restaurant however should play music more related to its theme. The music is too loud and does not match the ambience of the restaurant.
First time here, and the food was great. Service was friendly and quick for South Africa. The only downsides were for my wife, and that was her first two choices had run out. For me, the 'hot' wasn't particularly hot. Would still recommend it.
The food was excellent. Came out fresh and super fast. Tranquil Atmosphere. Staff delivered friendly and efficient service, especially Godfrey! We'll definitely be back
Absolutely amazing taste of foods. Location is very busy, so my advice is to book in advance. We were a party of six and had an amazing food experience. The service offered is great and friendly. It is highly recommended.
Excellent food made with great pride and enthusiasm. One of the best curry restaurants I have visited in Cape Town. Authentic Indian food served with South Africa flair. I will recommend them anytime!!!!
Went there yesterday specifically to get the puri patha. Was glad I did, it was delicious. That being said, I did struggle between a 3/4 star rating here. While the patha was good, I found the puri a little too crisp. Also R52 for one (about 10cm in size) was a bit pricey.
Then the prawn chilli bites were inedible. To be fair, I did go during loadshedding, but perhaps they should rather say they can’t make something. As per the pictures, it was R98 for this. It had 4 very small pieces of prawn stuck inside. The dough inside was completely raw, and bottom was burnt. Obviously not deep fried. Total loss of nearly R100 as we couldn’t eat it at all.
Then also ordered the trio of rotis. Portion size good, and tasty (although rotis a bit soggy). Beans roti well worth the price.
But why I went to 4, is that the staff there are great. They were friendly & I enjoyed the chat while I waited.
Excellent vegetarian dishes! Their version of mater paneer is arguably the best I’ve had.
Indian food with the magic touch of Seelan Sundoo who besides being an excellent chef, is a great host. From a simple dish such as the vegetable starter which was done to perfection. The fusion dish of the lamb shank is a well balanced dish in taste. The lamb curry which is the benchmark of Indian cuisine, is rich in flavour. It was hard to judge which dish was the creme dela creme between the crayfish and crab curry or the fried kabeljou. The seafood curry was exactly as one’s mum would have cooked it, that is an Indian mum and was big enough for two people. Just be prepared to get your hands messy as a Fork and knife just won’t cut it. The fish was done excellently as well. The restaurant is small and cozy and together with the good service makes for an overall great experience. I will definitely recommend.
Absolutely loved coming to Sundoo one Friday evening. The staff were warm and attentive and the atmosphere is lively. The food was amazing, we really enjoyed the Bunnies as well as the Nepalese style dumplings. Food tastes fresh and explosive with flavors. We'll definitely be back!
I enjoyed dinner here with my colleagues recently and I had a mushroom/truffle pasta with added chicken and a mango daiquiri (according to the waiter they were out of strawberries, so no strawberry daiquiri for me which was my only let down. The food was good, I really wish I had ordered the butter chicken one of my colleagues had (it tasted soooo goood!) and our waiter was friendly and attentive. I am definitely coming back to have the butter chicken!
Another unbelievable meal at the best Indian restaurant. I tried the butter chicken it was the best I have ever had. I like to order the pineapple curry and mix it with the chicken curry.
Sundoo has a take away place inside Double Tree hotel at Salt River.
The manager Walter is very sweet. The food is great and the prices very reasonable for the large quantities they give you.
Quaint India restaurant that serves amazing Indian flavours. It was great to have curry away from home.
We had a Wiki deal. The food and drinks were great, much better than expected. Lovely venue and very friendly staff
My guests and I had a superb evening. The food was excellent - the lamb chops are to die for - and the wine list intelligently constructed. The service was beyond reproach. I think it is one of the better Indian restaurants in South Africa. Their wine list keeps getting better and better.
So eating at an indian restaurant is always a challenge when your mom is an Iron chef. I am proud to say that this Indian restaurant scored a 10 out of 10 critic from me. That's hard to get that out of me, especially when I can't eat hot food. Darn!!!. Butter chicken was crazy perfect and so was the mutton breyani. Butbitvwas the service that blew us away.
