Nice quaint restaurant by the dam. Lovely outdoor patio under canopy of trees. Limited selection on menu for lacto-vegetarians but waiter made a plan and we enjoyed lovely fresh food (aside from the chips- which must've been from the day before). Good starters and decent veg platter. Nice drive from JHB and escape from hustle and bustle of the city.
Great spot to eat if you have taken a drive out to Hartbeespoort.
You may meet some friendly chickens before you get to the door. The staff are great, quick to seat you and assist if you need anything.
The food... Our table had cheese burger and chips which was thoroughly enjoyed, an amazing chicken salad and a huge Eisbein which the meat was as soft as butter.
You can now stay there too if you have had to much to drink or feel like staying out there for the night
Always a lively atmosphere here, we have been quite a few times and with there not being much of a selection on the dam we tend to keep coming back here ... the steaks and seafood are pretty good we havent tried much else to be honest. Service is always pleasant.
First time visit to Squires after driving past so many times. Service was good and our waiter very attentive without harassing us. The special of the day a 600g T Bone was excellent and at R 110 very good value. However my wife's fillet although cooked to order was overpriced with all extras adding to the bill! Decour is very dated and our booth been recovered a number of times and looked a bit tatty and tired!!
Consistently good service. We were given a warm greeting by the manager while the waiter found us a place to sit. We were served by Mr Moyo and Alpha. The food was served quickly. Skoon plate! We will definitely come here again. Thank you!
Squires is always a pleasure!! Their T-bone steaks are so big and juicy and just so full of meat!! They make the best cocktails around..Live entertainment on weekends is definitely a must!! :) Staff are all so friendly and ready to help

This has been the second time we had dinner at Squires on the Dam and I have to say I am a bit confused on what exactly to think. I want to like it because as soon as you step into Squires it feels like a good old fashioned steak house. It feels familiar and home like. Both times the staff were extremely friendly and courteous.
I don't know anyone who wouldn't like to visit a place like this over and over again, but, the food does not impress but it doesn't disappoint either. It just hangs there in the middle. I guess it would come down to your idea of a budget wether you will find Squires appealing or not.
I have to admit that there are many restaurants in the same price range that makes a much better steak, but they don't have that special feeling Squires give you.
I really do wish that the food would improve as service and feeling isn't enough for me. This particular evening we did wait a bit for our food but that was fine as we were enjoying a wonderful bottle of Blanc de Noir nut when the food arrived we were a bit disappointed. I ordered rump with fries and onion rings and my wife the chicken curry. The steak was okey. Not great but not bad bit no onion rings in sight. Our very friendly waiter apologized and found me some. The curry on the other hand was terrible. It is simply a bowl with rice and a curry like sauce with a slimy chicken thigh on top. Come on guys. This is not how you make curry. I am an avid Indian food lover, and this does not qualify on any grounds to be called curry.
So not far off but definitely room for improvement.

This restaurant is a very nice restaurant. Upon walking up the stairs I was greeted by little chickens (I don't know what that was about, but it gave me a huge fright). The cocktails were really good for a hot night, I just felt that the straws were SO long. The fillet that I had was amazing. The mushroom sauce complimented the meat with the nice creamy spinach and sweet pumpkin. I had a nice experience of the restaurant. I recommend that people come and visit it in the near future.
So very hot out ...... Soda water and inside we go , Great service from Able , the prawns to die for 1 kg for R150.00 a real treat and a must .
It has been a long time since I have visited this old stalwart and remember it fondly. The restaurant itself is slightly "worn" and I found the lighting much too bright. That aside we received friendly mostly efficient service but the food was excellent! Prawn and avo starters then one Jalapeño style rump. Well cooked but if you don't enjoy spicy food stay way. This was hot! Then a avo on rump with sour cream sauce. Fantastic. And all the good food at a reasonable price.
Absolutely worth it to stop here for something to eat. Food was amazing. Had the snail and it was not the small one you sometimes get. Was big snails. Chicken schnitzel was not too dry and nice and crunchy
Great restaurant with great food. Service was extremely quick and friendly and definitely worth a visit if in the area. Can get really busy on weekends so be sure to have a backup plan if it's too full
Beautiful area with a lovely view of the animal park and the dam. Their ribs are amazing and well seasoned.

Loved the vibe. Waiters are friendly and frequently check up. The food was absolutely delicious and well presented! If you're a meat lover, Highly recommend the Brandy Pepper Fillet!
I went there with my wife in the evening and found the ambiance very nice romantic and warm since I was winter. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. I ordered an eisbein and my wife ordered ribs and we both enjoyed all the food including veggies and desert. I would recommend it.

Nice outdoor area. Service was attentive. Our waiter John Walker was wonderful. We had the starters for lunch. Simple but very tasty. Will be back again.
Service was not the best. We waited a while for our waiter, which I think forgot that we arrived. Luckily, the manager saw this and rook our drinks orders in the meantime. The food was good, and the portions were large. The atmosphere inside was slightly dark as it's not very well lit. Play place and jumping castle for kids is a bonus
Food is exceptional, the oxtail is divine. Mussels in white wine sauce is heavenly. Prices are affordable with a great shooter and cocktail menu. Excellent service with a indoor and outdoor seating area.
The restaurant is opposite the snake park. The food is a little pricey but quality is good. They have a large deck outside a very small play area and a nice quiet inside. Inside has aircon and is cool on the very hot days - although a little dark inside.

Went there for birthday celebrations. Food was good and the venue was really nice with outside seating. Service was normal to slow but due to having a nice atmosphere this did not bother us. Will definitely go again. Kingklip definitely the winner the day.
