Review Woolworths Cafe Sandton City - Sandton

Jo Maema
Met my friends in Sandton to pick-up a friend from abroad at Gautrain. We ended up at Benmore Garden's Woolies Cafe for breakfast. We were taken care of by Porshea very well, even with limited options on the menu because of loadshedding. The food was good and fresh .

The food at this woolworths is by far the best in the area. The beef burger and chips with garlic mayo are recommended as well as the chicken toastie which is generous in size. The service can be a bit slow sometimes but its fine when you don't want to be bothered by waiters, are not in a rush and just need to relax and take your time. The waiters are kind and unproblematic.

I am the biggest fan of burgers, i always look forward to a delicious burger! I have inserted pictures of two different burgers, on the left is the beef burger and on the right is the plant based beyond burger. And let me just tell you I am blown away. > The beef burger is so delicious and juicy. You can never go wrong with this burger and the Smokey mayo was absolutely delicious! The crispy were fresh and crisp and paired so well with the mayo. > I have had many burgers in my life time and I am positive that the beyond burger is the best burger I have ever eaten! I have ordered it twice already and every time I go to the woolies restaurant, this is the burger I look forward to ordering. It tastes 100x better than the beef burger. It tastes better than beef 🤞🏽 just trust me on this one. It is perfectly seasoned, it is so immaculate and juicy, you feel as if you’re body and mind go into a trance because all the flavors are so perfect! This burger tasted meaty even though it is a plant based burger. I highly recommend 🤞🏽 Good Job Woolworths I wish these Pattie’s were available for sale because i would buy them all

Lovely casual experience. Very relaxing. Good food and service

Always good service and food at Sandton city. There's a wide variety of cakes that are super fresh and delicious. The food is well made. I've been to many branches of woolies cafes, however this is the most consistent branch in terms of good food and service. The hot chocolate is amazing.

Laid back and relaxing environment, good choice of vegan options on the menu, good setup inside the Woolies in the mall and great staff. The options for various cheeses, vegetarian, select coffees and the all day menu are good to know.
Robert Laithwaite
Really nice place, the food is good quality and the service is friendly. The cakes are particularly good and the coffee is nice.
Ricardo
Always fresh and tasty - Woolworths Cafe is the first choice.
AURORA
The golden oat latte is absolutely perfect. The potato rosti is lovely but could be cooked with less oil. Needs more vegan options for bread.

The new cauliflower burger is just stunning. And the Woolies cafe is so affordable.

Good service and the food is good. Stop by if you are shopping and need some rest and a decent meal. Ask for your bill when you order your last meal, it takes a while to come if you are in a rush.

The best Woolworths Cafe by far, food is alway great. The service can be a bit slow sometimes, hence the 4 stars.

Woolworths Cafe food is always healthy and delicious. Definitely one of my favorite cafes.

We decided to have breakfast at Woolies Cafe, and arrived about 09:15. We had to wait up to 30 minutes for a smoked trout on sourdough and a breakfast brioche. When the food came, I was shocked at the size of my portion- a single, thin, slice of sourdough. Fortunately the topping was delicious but it was a snack, not a meal. My husband's brioche was supposed to have scrambled egg, but instead came as a puffy sort of omelette.

While we were waiting I needed the bathroom, but found I was unable to gain access to the ladies toilet adjacent to the restaurant. The instructions on the wall said to push the intercom button (there was an intercom under the notice) to gain access. I pushed said button to no avail. There was no response one would think that an organisation such a Woolworths, which apparently prides itself on quality, could organise a decent bathroom.
Last time we will be going there for brekky!!

Came over for a taste of the harvest table. Although there was limited variety, the food does taste fresh and vibrant. Service was decent.

Service wasn’t good, I was only helped 10 minutes after sitting down and waited forever for my food which was upsetting because their Roast chicken salad is my fav and the food is always delicious. My husband had this delicious meal in the pic

We were seated promptly and our waitron was very kind actually. However, the grilled cheese sandwich that I had ordered left a lot to be desired considering the price. However, the vanilla and cinnamon latte was fantastic and would definitely recommend.

Oh Woolworths cafe never disappoints. Love the freshest pressed juice selection. They have an incredible selection of vegetarian meals. Today’s choice was avocado toast and toasted cheese sandwich.
Lynette Scafturis
We stopped for a quick bite yesterday afternoon. Expecting the usual Woolies quality, I was left disappointed. Aside from taking an hour for them to bring our simple order, the rye toast was so hard, we could not cut it with a steak knife. On a positive note, when we did manage to have interaction with the waiter, he was very friendly and the smoothies were delicious. It is very unlikely that I will eat here again. I will however contemplate a take-away smoothie.

I had a takeaway from the woolworth cafe last week and I must say I was positively surprised.

I had a carb clever noodle duck salad which tasted really great, but I found the portion to be small. Since the noodles are carb clever, I got hungry less than 2 hours after eating the meal😔 otherwise, I would have easily rated 4 to this restaurant.

I would try other items as the salad was very tasty!

Woolies makes a Great coffee! Nice breakfast. Just a great place to relax and not be too posey. I love the avo on rye. and their breakfasts are great.

I tried the sushi from this branch and it was fantastic. Some of the best i've had. I actually had to get a takeaway of salmon roses, Fresh and excellent quality,
Rebone Mofulatsi
Thoroughly enjoyed the beef and chicken burgers we had at this cafe... and the pineapple, mint and apple juice. The chips were also divine, and the dipping sauce was just fantastic! We had a great waiter who was very helpful, friendly and attentive. We were there at around 7pm on Friday and it wasn't packed at all so not much waiting for seating or food. I will forgive the fact that our table wasn't very clean when we arrived cause everything else made up for it.

In my opinion Woolworths definitely has the best coffee is Johannesburg, however, the menu has recently been changed and the food options are a bit strange. I generally like a small menu but I find this updated one to be lacking and include weird options like smashed peas.

We had the smashed avo on toast and minestrone soup with roast chicken. Both were nice but nothing special.

The service was terrible though. We waited for over 20 minutes to get our coffees and it was very difficult to flag down our waitress.
Thabang Mabala
The food was amazing, I had a beef burger with melted cheddar and cheese sauce. I also had a frozen lemonade with a dash of ginger and it was out of this world. The service was a bit slow but it was during peak hour lunch. I'd definitely go again. It was a bit loud I'm the cafe so I wouldn't advice as a spot for a meeting or something formal.

Nice quick stop between shopping, fresh baked goodies available, Good service. We received our food quickly, Many of the woolies favorites are on the menu.👍🏽

Woolworths is a classic for South Africans. Its cafe aldo offers delicious food and drinks. My favourite iş its breakfast selection and all green juice.
Nixie
Honestly the best frezzochino. I'm a complete addict can't walk past a woolworths cafe and not get one. My fav is chicken schnitzel! Love how fresh the food is and service is always friendly
Sachin Ram-Asary
The food was surprisingly great (especially the salads). Pretty bog-standard in terms of look and feel but then again it is a large retail chain. Good for a quick lunch. Service was very sub-standard - I feel that the service staff really needs more training on providing options, following-up, feedback and just a general sense of urgency and courtesy.

This Woolies Cafe has so much potential. If only they can get their service right. Had to wait forever to get menus and the waiters are like headless chickens not knowing what tables to serve. Had the most delicious crispy chicken burger with Jalapeños, cheese and spicy mayo with chips that's were just perfect. The chips were served with the most awesome garlic mayo.
Tasmika Amin
Always a safe bet for breakfast or a midday snack. Service is efficient, and the food generally above average and standardised between the branches.

The honey nut latte is definitely a fav.
Vishal Mistry
Decided on Woolies Cafe for lunch over the weekend, and they clearly cant handle the business of the weekends, even to the extent where the waiters are trying to get you to go for the ready made options rather than order from the menu. We ordered the crispy chicken burgers with chips and a garlic-mayo sauce. The burgers were actually great, and the chips were crispy on the outside and mushy and soft on the inside. Its just a pity the service was discombobulated with the amount of patrons.
Rigard & Jeanine
A good breakfast choice. We're normally there first thing in the morning and have never been disappointed. Great coffees and meals of a high standard. Offering Banting options count in their favour.
Qhawe Luthuli
Woolies Cafe's are usually much the same but I quite liked this one because I experienced the best service in comparison to the others. Their long hours are convenient after some evening shopping and you're not really in the mood to walk through the food court.
Food was okay; seasonal salad felt like it was missing something. Took a bite of their chicken burger, which was quite good but my partner complained about it having too much mayo. Their fries are quite amazing.
Sharima Bramannan
I guess I was really lucky with my timing...got there as they took a fresh batch of scones out of the oven...I couldn't resist...coupled with some butter, it was divine. Washed the scone down with my favourite ginger bread latte...was a really good breakfast 👌🏽

Woolworths food spots have the best carrot cake in the world (surely) and the service here was a little underwhelming although the food was great. Nice setting actually I've never seen a Woolworths cafe that pretty!
GOODATEATING
I'm so excited about 2017, and I'm truly looking forward to all the good food I'll be eating. And one of those places is definitely Woolworths Cafe! The most perfect place to eat when you're looking for simplicity but still an element of perfection.

I am not really a burger person, but after this amazing chicken burger (the fact that it was a chicken burger and still bomb says a lot) I think I may have been converted. It had the most yummy sauce to go along with it. It was so simple but also so enjoyable at the same time. I know the chips may look a bit dry, but I promise they were as good!
Because there are multiple cafes across Johannesburg, i can't place any emphasis on the vibe as each one would offer a different vibe depending on the scenery. The Sandton one in particular is very busy, and isn't the place to have intimate lunches. It's great to get something to eat while trying to do your shopping. I call it the perfect pit stop.
It's perfect for anyone, no age restrictions, and personality and any occasion. That's the great thing about mall restaurants, it's perfect for any and everyone.
It's important to me to be able to eat good food, that's fairly priced, and this is one of those places. Not everything has to be super fancy and life changing, but I strongly believe food should always have an element of perfection, and I really felt that here.
Perfect way to start the year, after heavy spending during December! I love love love this place and I'm sure a lot of you will agree!

We came here on 1 January for breakfast (we like to live dangerously!) and was actually surprised by the quality of the food and the service! I had the berry pot which was yum, despite them being stingy with the berries, and husband had the sweet corn waffle breakfast, which was also fresh and delicious. Service was excellent and friendly. The decor is beautiful!
Tanya
Food was awesome, service was a little lackluster. We ordered a cappuccino and latte and waited a while for them. On arrival it was two cappuccinos, which we had anyway but I think they were actually for another table. I can not however complain about the food. The eggs benedict is simply scrumptious. Just the right start to the day. I recommend ordering it with extra honey glazed bacon... mmm nom nom nom. It would however be just as filling and delicious without it and cheaper as the extra bacon is not cheap but worth it if u like some extra protein with your breakie. The proper breakfast is highly recommended for those with a bigger appetite. Order it with ciabatta and you will not be sorry. Toasted to perfection, butter just melts into the golden tones to make every crunchy bite perfection. Great spot to start your morning shop in. Woolworths cafes seldom dissapoint.

I'm really not a fan of shopping centre restaurants (is anyone, really?). That said, there's something to be said about a place that can be counted on to deliver quality food in a convenient spot. I definitely find that the Woolies Cafe fits the bill. Since I'm a huge breakfast fan, I was impressed by the variety of delicious sounding brekkies (had to choose between a truly decadent sounding French toast with Nutella and berries and a potato cake served with basil cream, mushrooms, poached eggs and bacon swapped out for avo). I went for the potato cake - actually the second time I've had it. It's wonderfully rich and has lots of complex flavours going on, thanks to the basil and lemon as well as all the other goodies. Also nice to know is that breakfast is served all day - and the coffee to wash it down with is really good, too. I wouldn't go out of my way to meet someone at Woolies but I know that if I did go, I would have a really enjoyable experience.

I love food from Woolworths, the quality and flavour is always great. I have to say that I was slightly underwhelmed by the food at the Cafe.

We popped in for breakfast and I had the health breakfast. I like a simple breakfast but there should be the distinction between simple and bland. It wasn't bad but just didn't have any great flavours. After breakfast we shared some carrot cake which was dry but still pretty tasty. Sadly, I find the desserts they sell in store to be better.

Luckily the service was amazing, our waitress was super friendly.

We haven't been back since and I don't believe we will be rushing back either.

Very pleasantly surprised. I haven't been to a Woolworths Cafe for quite a while. I never seem to find much to eat on their basic menu and the service is usual well below par. So it was a welcome change to see a completely different menu (well, new and different to me, at least!) with lots more variety. I loved the teapots - I'm a teapot freak! My salmon trout bagel was an unbelievably generous portion, for just R59. I thought that was terrific value! And the service was extremely efficient, even when the lunchtime rush began shortly after we arrived.
I'm not sure if all the Woolies Cafes have upped their game like this, but the Sandton branch has done a great job!

Really enjoyed this outlet! I had a delicious creamy pesto pasta and my sister enjoyed a tomato sauce with chicken and ciabatta. The service was really good considering it was a busy Saturday!

Out of all of the Woolworths cafés I've been to this one has to be the one with the worst service I have ever come across. I went more than 3 times hoping that I had probably came on bad days to the restaurant previously but it was the same. Waited to be seated for almost 5 minutes whilst waiters walked passed me and made eye contact with me. Ended up having to flag down one in order to get served and then proceeded to wait more than 20 minutes to place my order and then an additional 15 to get my drinks. And I won't even go into detail about how long I had to wait for my basic meal of a Avo and chicken wrap. But on the bright side, the food was good. Yay for Woolworths food but nay for this particular one's service.
Karen
The quality of food at this restaurant is always a 10/10, but unfortunately the service is very inconsistent. The staff are wonderful however the service is often very slow. Expect to wait a while for your meals (Which are never disappointing).

*TINY PORTIONS | OVERPRICED*

We went for a quick breakfast and were rather disappointed at the portion size for the price one pays. Eggs Benedict at R60 with the option to add bacon for another R20 and presented with 2 small eggs, a trickle of hollandaise sauce that I had to request more, a few shriveled pieces of bacon and no option of toast except for R6 per slice?!
A very expensive once off breakfast for sure.
The berry and basil lemonade (although delicious) is served in a tiny tumbler and costs R36!
Shan't return in a hurry.

I honestly don't know what I would do without Woolworths- their food, clothes and decor. Their Cafe is no exception, really great food, friendly service and reasonably priced. Definitely a highly recommended sanctuary within the madness that is Sandton City.

Nice cafe. Don't like that there is no cell phone signal. Their take away section is nicer than there in and eat section. Delicious smoothies and nice place to sit and eat your take away quickly before heading back to work.
Eshwar Andhavarapu
Always very good food here and no exception this time. But, it is very expensive at R 200/kg. But gotta love the convenience of heading there when hungry and having instant good food.
Christine Buchanan
Love the food and the vibe here. It's the best for a quick meal. A bit hard to ascertain who is serving at your table, but thanks to manager Paul Ndlovu who got things going.

Their delicious, comfort-in-a-cup chai latte is made to perfection! Deserving of an honorable mention.
Service is excellent. Waiters are attentive and pleasant.

Note to Management:
The talented chefs you have at Woolworths Food at this branch do an amazing job of creating flavourful dishes, why not value some of their input in boosting the Harvest Table?
However while on this note of your chefs in the Food Market (not the cafe) they seriously need to be trained about customer service as they are rude and always seem agitated when recipes are requested. Isn't that the reason why they're cooking for your customers? To entice them into purchasing ingredients to recreate the dishes at home?
Please don't put that negative energy into the food.
James Marsh
This is a great little cafe. The interior is so contemporary and different which creates a very nice vibe! The coffee was good, we also enjoy pressed juice which was fresh and tasty! One of the better Woolworths cafes.

Went to woolworths cafe in Sandton a couple of weeks ago. The service was very mediocre and the food was very bland. Would probably go back for a coffee but that's about it. It's a shame because the woolworths cafe in Hyde Park is of a much higher standard. Hope to see some improvements.
Vicky Gross
Had a really shocking experience. Ordered an egg pan which is supposed come with hollandaise sauce and that sauce was oily and not a hollandaise sauce at all. There was also some hair in the meal. Service was shocking. Not impressed whatsoever.
Magda Oosthuysen
I previously complained about the shocking service at this cafe and it seems nothing is heard. It continues to be shocking. What I can add is that you get much better and faster service if you just want to grab a coffee and snack. have now been to this cafe about 6 times and I can honestly say that it has the worst service of any Woollies cafe that I have ever been too and probably amongst the worst of all restaurants that I have been to. The waiter had to be called a number of times to order coffee and then to order food, that in spite of the fact that we told her that we wanted to order and she promised to just drop off something in another table yet I saw her wondering around and then chatting to a number of other waiters. It's really shocking and it does damage to the Woollies brand. The food and coffee was great as usual; just one complaint in that the salad was meant to have pickled zucchini in and it did not, with no explanation. Still good food but I do believe that the right think to do would be to highlight missing ingredients either before or after ordering. Don't think I will return, I will order a take a way coffee and get food somewhere else.

The service at this branch is shocking. The hostess that served me on Sunday had an attitude. All the tables that were available on Sunday afternoon were filthy dirty will leftover dishes and glasses from previous customers. When I asked the hostess (after waiting 15 minutes to be served) if she could remove all the dishes and dirt off the table and possibly bring me a menu, she just looked at me and never ever came to clean the table, until being served again 15 minutes later by a waitress who then finally cleared the table. Also, the chocolate crush at this branch was awful, so watery and icy which is so unlike Woolworths as at most branches they are usually thick and divine. Totally disappointing.
Gigliola Conte-Patel
I usually really enjoy going to most Woolies Cafés so when I heard that there was one opening in Sandton City I was super stoked. Since the opening I've been there a few times and although the harvest table selection is usually quite good, in my experience the service hasn't been great at all. Still it's not bad for a quick lunch outside of the office.
The SA Food Guru
This large cafe and bakery is located on the ground floor, in the back of the Woolies store in Sandton City. There is ample seating, as it tends to get rather busy over the lunch hour.

There is a noodle bar (only available at select cafes) and the sushi is surprisingly well made and fresh - true to Woolies' quality promise.

It is well known that Woolworths serve some of the best tasting ethically sourced coffee, and their baristas are well trained - operating only the best of coffee machines (LaMarzocco). Try a Piccolo or a neat espresso.

Their harvest table is very popular, and offers a selection of salads and hot dishes to choose from. Usually sells out quite quickly, so be sure to go early if you want to try it (11:30 till 15:00).
Anisha Lutchman
I frequently visit this particular Woolworths Café and the food and service is always great. The café is nicely set up and spacious unlike most of the other Woolies cafés I've been to.

On to the food - be sure to try the chicken schnitzel open sandwich. It is absolutely yum. I can also recommend their honey nut latte, chocolate freezo, caramel cheesecake and carrot cake.

It is the perfect place to stop by for a quick coffee or light snack in between shopping.
Joyce Keung
The food was really really yummy! I ordered my favourite classic rotisserie chicken wrap. And it is just the best wrap i've ever had. The only thing was that there was only one piece of lettuce in it. Haha. And the rest was chicken.
But the buffet where they weigh your food is really expensive. O_o half a plate for R76!
Poor Man's Caviar
Being the occasional Woolies Cafe frequenter (what with the pressures of mall shopping tiring a man out) I often sit down to enjoy one of their coffees and a light bite.
Lately the Woolworths Cafe chain has been getting some shocking reviews and I too have personally experienced some bad service (especially), but food etc.not so much.
I popped into Sandton City and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had done a new refurb and the cafe looked quite snazzy and made into quite a large restaurant area.
It was packed so I took up one of the high tables near the coffee bar.
A really good selection of cakes and pastries are now being served as well as their always decent coffee. Also on the run smoothies and fresh juices.
I also loved the fact that they had an updated menu with some rather quirky menu items and not the usual run of the mill sarmies etc.
I ordered a coffee at the bar and then decided to eat - I ordered the pulled beef shortrib tacos.
These little guys were off the charts delicious- great presentation on a wooden speciality board with wedge of lime,a side of crunchy, creamy, smoky parmesan corn and perfect soft-shell taco with pickled red onion and this succulent braised shortrib and coriander. Three in the portion and delightful, but just too small to satisfy my hunger. It was a main menu item, so maybe another taco would seal the deal but just not quite enough for a big guy. That is my only complaint.
The coffee was great as per usual and service efficient. The manager was even around to ask about meal and greet so was suitably chuffed.
Overall I had a nice meal and time and would recommend the Sandton branch anytime.
Michael
This Woolworths cafe is the grand daddy of all Woolworths cafes.

Although belonging to the woolworths cafe "chain" this branch is definitely more upmarket in respect to the kitchen staff. The harvest table at this branch is better than any other, with a chicken pie worthy of a trip to Sandton city all by itself.

Sitting at a table close by the kitchen I could see that this branch is very professional. Couldn't help but notice how organized and methodically the kitchen staff were working.

Woolworth's cafes in general are under rated in my opinion. The plainest example of this is a R20 scone that is nice and light having been baked only a few hours ago with freshly whipped cream and good quality jam served in ceramic containers ( this branch ups this by using very nice brass containers). Order a scone elsewhere and you'll likely receive a dense, not so fresh scone with canned cream and a tiny 20cent packet jam.

Woolworths coffee is also some of the best with the new flat white added to the menu being a savior for coffee lovers wanting a milk based espresso drink that is not weak and pallid (which seems to be the fate of most cuppacinos)

Ashley Walker
Really loved this Woolies café. I had food from the harvest table and it was absolutely scrumptious. The ingredients were fresh and there was quite a selection of food which ranged from different salads, roasted vegetables, rotisserie chicken in a lovely sauce and a variety of other dishes. Service wasnt the greatest but it was busy and I wasnt in a rush. Will definitely be back!
Yasmin
Very good place for a quick bite and to get all your shopping done too! The new menu is amazing and the food was great too! So happy I tried it out.

July 12 evening: After shopping at Woolies, decided to try their cafe. We had the salad sandwich. It's an oen sandwich containing avocado, crispy onions, carrots and spicy feta. The sandwich was really good and crunchy. Also had the mocha coffee. A good place for a quick snack n coffee. Darshana Parekh

Not somewhere that I would rush back to unless I was starving!

Lacklustre service, disappointing serving sizes and a number of menu items unavailable.

A very poor performance from the Woolworths brand.

Definitely not somewhere that I would recommend.
Dani
The food is really good here if you can wait a long time for your food... Did I mention how long the wait is? Even just to get a table then the menu then... But it is always busy because of the delicious food 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Had brunch with a friend, we experienced bad service and my food was horrible. I love woolies cafe but on Monday that all changed l. My friend actually liked what she had ordered.

Woolworths has a new and improved breakfast menu. Along with the breakfast staples, they've now added some new exciting choices. The corn and cheese waffle is wow. Try it next time you are here :)
LuluFromJozi
Lunch is a rush. And I honestly have no problem with that, as we all are in a rush too. Customers want food and drinks fast and the staff want greater turn around, so its good all around. Just not too many smiles around. Food is fresh and super tasty, but i do feel its a bit pricey.
Chantel
After shopping we decided to try the cafe. The decor is simple and the spacious feel of the cafe is great. The new menu has a wide selection of heathy and Delicous dishes. We decided on a salmon bagel and salmon filled omelette. The bagel was amazing fresh bagel a huge portion of salmon and a creamy dill spread. For the price I can't see how they are even covering their cost. The omelette was perfectly cooked, light and fluffy the filling was fresh and Delicous. The new tea selection is also very impressive . Perfect for a great breakfast or lunch.

I LOVE WOOLWORTHS. Any cafe you decide to go to will produce the same quality. Be sure to try their buffet from 11am. The most incredible food gets served for a reasonable price. I tried their new home-made ice teas which was exquisite, then we tried their open sandwiches with schnitzel and a chicken salad. Amazing.
Chantelle Le Roux
This branch is a huge open plan area with wonderful decor.
Popped in for a meal 30 minutes before the kitchen closed and we're still greeted with a wide smile.

Ordered a roast chicken, avo and honey mustard mayo on an open sandwich.
The portion was massive and I only managed to eat half.
The chicken with the honey mustard mayo was divine. Mixed with avo and micro herbs, the meal has a wonderful combination of flavours.

Friendly service and a wonderful space to relax.

The service is really slow and the cafe is only 50% full. The kitchen staff looked confused and is not plating fast enough or even plating the correct food. We ordered scrambled eggs for breakfast.. And it took 30 min to arrive. The eggs were dry, toast was luke warm. Not impressed with their service at all! It is becoming worse.
