Review Popeye's - Sandton

Joash Narainsamy
Good southern fried chicken! The chicken was fresh, crisp and not greasy. I loved the fries, they're dipped in a light batter and then fried - delish! The biscuit was flaky but dry, I recommend a dip to go with it. The pecan pie was buttery and packed with pecan nuts. If you like fried chicken, definitely pop in to Popeyes!

4 star dining experience! If there's something that we look for as customers has to be a superior taste and a superb service quality. firstly, the chicken was so mouth watering unlike other resturants which kinda offers a slight dry chicken. I would recommend you buy a spicy chicken(hot) as it have appealed to me a lot unlike the normal one. Their fries were nice and their burger were tasty. I got my order so quick and that is what I expect from fast food restaurants who understand the need to feed empty stomuchs. I loved Popeyes Sandton.

I enjoyed the chicken this time around. Maybe because I said they must make it spicy. The lady who helped me was very nice forgot her name but wont forget her.

They have a wonderful seating area upstairs and there is a lift to take you up. It is halaal which accommodates for Muslim individuals. I had a sweet chilli chicken wrap and it was yummy. Would definitely eat there again.

This place is still new and very busy, had to stand in a queue for 15mins, but it was worth the wait, we took the mild chicken, it was not too hot and the chicken wasn't greasy at all

So happy to find a Halal (SANHA APPROVED) Popeyes here, expecially coming from America. Food was excellent and the staff is very friendly. Our food was cooked great and nothing was raw or undercooked. Will definitely visit again.

Bought this easily over 100 times. What a chow 👍

Great fries, although the chicken was a little dry...great service though..
Mohau Mokoena
Delicious food. Manages to stay pretty tasty even after a long ride and really kind people giving service. Plus you can get a decent filling for a very small price (less than a triple Chilli cheese burger on its own)
springpai pai
The chicken tenders are so delicious. I love the food here.
Joanne Pereira
The food was disgusting and this is after having placed an order got there the guy that took the order said that he forgot to place the order and then to add insult to injury the chicken was dry and tasted burnt. Lots of customers but what unbelievable service. The orders are all over the place. No order at all where is management. Rivonia Road is just useless
Kimson Chan
The rating was not because of the quality of the chicken, but because of the poor quality of service I received when collecting my order. I don't know if it was the system (because the cashier got my order correct) or that the people preparing the food was simply too lazy to read my order but the worst part is that the staff were rude and unwilling to change my order. (For one of the combos I ordered, I asked for regular mash as a side but they insisted on stuffing the cajun fries at me). I told them I wanted to change the side but they ignored me and wanted to chase me away. They seriously need to be trained because it feels like that they don't care about customer service. Well, these rude staff members has successfully chased me away from this outlet as I will be coming back anytime soon and worst of all, its likely that management would not even take note of this anyways.
100% late to the party, years after their launch in SA. I’m only frequenting Popeyes this year .

I was really excited and keen to try it out . After hearing conflicting reviews from people I was curious to see how I’d find it .

The Cajun fries are the best thing since sliced bread . Wow ,wow, wow . It was love from the first bite .
Unfortunately they stopped selling the biscuit because it wasn’t selling well so I didn’t get to try that .

I ordered the mild chicken and it was quite oily and also bland . Similar to KFC’s chicken but not with as much flavor .

I took a bite of my friend’s nuggets and my cholesterol levels instantly rose . 😭The amount of salt in them was insane .

Keen to try other items on the menu . But the fries are a newfound favorite 😊

Man oh man do I love this place or what! I have been there four times in a month with my boyfriend while we did 100 dinners. It's a 100 for both of us.

And Pop eyes has been a fantastic choice. The pricing is reasonable and we get great value for money.

I have tried the chicken burger in mild. The chicken tenders in mild and the chicken pieces in mild and spicy. Everything was excellent.

The chicken is perfectly cooked. Juicy and best of all, not oily like some chicken places. And its consistently good. I haven't had a bad meal here(touch wood).

It is unfair to compare them to a traditional restaurant as they are a fast food joint. They are good at the fast food part.

I am going to have something from there every time I go to Sandton(and it's alot) Haha.

Ps the service is great. Just be nice to the person behind the till :)
Marco Distefano
Went there they had no spicy mayo sauce so the offered another sauce for my nuggets, it was ice cold sauce so bad the nuggets tasted like they were cooked in old oil either, the food is ok or the worst thing you will ever taste I’m gonna start giving this place a miss

Vinolin Naidoo
Ordered the tendered 3 piece spicy chicken and chillie mayo dip. The chicken pieces were huge and definitely worth the R29. Relativity, the chicken is not as spicy or tasty as Chicken Licken but definitely not as oily! Nothing special :)
Tariq Yousuf
The food is good, but the service is pathetic if you want to eat inn, they don’t supply with any disposables plates or trays or disposable cutlery.
You have to beg for sauces sachets as well.
I would rather collect a takeaway.
Radha Chhita-Nathoo
Not much options for a vegetarian, but hell their chips are the best I have had from any take out place. They do a curry mayo which is delicious. Onion rings are yummy and slaw is good too! But man the cajan chips is everything!!!!!
Ross Van Eck
I believe the low aggregate rating of Popeyes is because people draw comparisons to dining out restaurants, which is wrong. My rating is based on comparisons with other fast-food chains.
When compared to their competition (KFC) I'd say Popeyes has the edge. Perhaps Popeyes doesn't have that traditional KFC flavour that we are all used to but their chicken is better cooked than KFC, perfectly cooked actually, and is well drained so the oil lying on top of the skin is minimal.
Taryn Kendall
No complaints here really - went to the branch at the food court in Sandton City. Lived up to the hype. A nice alternative the takeaways we use to. I must recommend the ranch sauce - totally delicious and just a change from the common choice across most takeaways. The food was good and fresh and the staff friendly.
YSB🌸
Loved their Cajun Chicken... Pieces were surprisingly big! Tender and Succulent as well..
The Burger wasn't so bad, the Sweet Chilli Wrap was ok (if you like sweet chilli), the regular Nuggets didn't have much taste, the Cajun fries were disappointing and the Onion Rings were just weird!
All in all, I would probably only order the Cajun Chicken pieces again
Eurisa Silushka Naicker
A full rating, because though the lines were long and we were awaiting a fresh batch of chicken the server was very friendly, efficient and kept us informed. Those who placed orders were called aside and offered complimentary drinks. When the food arrived the chicken, tenders and burger were crisp on the outside and juicy on the insides. The sides, onion rings, coleslaw and biscuits were well prepared, fresh and tasty.
Food Man
Current rating of 2.5 is unfair. Nice alternative to kfc and chicken licken - more or less on the same standard in terms of quality and value for money. The biscuit is surprisingly amazing on its own with a cold coke.
Anisha Lutchman
I've been to Popeyes a few times and had takeaways from there and I have to say that the food has always been consistent. I know most people compare it to KFC because that was the previous restaurant in this spot and they also offer a similar menu to that of KFC. In my personal opinion, I prefer Popeyes. I find that their chicken has a lot more flavour and that it is much less oily. The first time I had Popeyes, I had their burger and it was really good. The roll was soft and the chicken fillet was tender and well spiced. On my second visit, I decided to try the wrap. The wrap wasn't too bad but I think my first preference would still be the burger. The Cajun fries and the mash and gravy are delicious. I would definitely recommend these.

Popeyes would probably be one of my go-to places in the Sandton Food Court. Not only is the food good, but they also have a clean and decent seating area upstairs, which isn't the case with many of the other restaurants in the food court!

Was so happy to see Popeyes in SA ,it was a must stop for me whenever in transit at Hong Kong Airport. Its a refreshing change to KFC/Chicken Licken..Their Cajun fries are a delight !

Nothing very exciting and quite disappointing after creating a lot of hype at the launch of the first South African store last year. I had an extreme burger and a portion of 3x chicken tenders(strips) with ranch dressing, the chicken was well cooked and succulent though still not special and dare I say lacked flavor. I think this is proof that big American chains aren’t necessarily better than local favorites like Chicken Licken which I would choose over Popeyes every day of the week.
Shanil Haripersad
Over priced for such average quality. Think South Africans are getting over the American hype. What’s been there for ages is a good let’s try but unfortunately KFC and Chicken Licken tastes better and are definitely more cost effective. KFC on a good day I suppose, because most branches in jhb have badly trained staff but yeah still better than this thrown together sloppy rubbish.
Zanenkululeko Belot
Well overpriced but the chicken itself is well flavoured and incredibly succulent. I appreciated the fact that the meat retained its temperature and that their chips are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

The biscuit itself tastes much like a dry warm scone
Ashish Sewgoolam
The food is not bad, but for what you get it is overpriced relative to specials from KFC and Chicken Licken. Service however is very slow and confusion seems to be the norm behind the counter.
The chicken pieces taste like a big zinger wing and it was succulent and fresh. The mash and gravy was the highlight, with pieces of chicken in the gravy and the biscuit tastes like a scone.
Don't be duped with the desserts. The cheesecake was "out of stock" and they haven't received it yet so went with the pecan pie. Tasted pleasant but a very, very small portion for the price.
Promise_foodie
After all the hype I finally decided to try Popeyes.
Very disappointed, the meat had my hands covered in oil after eating it and the burgers are very dry.
Won't be going back after this.
Fiona Hao
I have been here multiple times and I am sad to say everything feels like it is deteriorating.
In the beginning the portions were reasonable and the chicken seemed fresh due to the high demand due to the high production.
Overtime, my large fries looked less than the regular portion and the service providers seemed quite apathetic. I questioned the portion of my Cajun chips and the lady did not seem to care.
My relative bought chicken pieces another time for us and the meat did not smell fresh and we ended up throwing the chicken away due to potential health risks. The sauces have also changed container sizes in a swift few weeks to half of what they offered.
The chicken is generally better than KFC in terms of the crispy coating, cajun flavour and softer meat.
I was impressed on my first purchase and I am left rather disappointed of where it stands in terms of quality and quantity now. The prices are not as affordable for continuous spending nor for the current state of the portions and service.
HungryDiner2.0
I would rather stick to my chicken licken. The chicken was too dry for my liking and just not tasty at all.

Don’t think I will be make a return to this one. Everything was just a let down.
Janine 123
We waited for the hype to die down before ordering. Not wanting to standing in the line...
I am sitting on the toilet as i write this because Popeyes gave me some painful diarrhoea. Last night drove out to Sandton -bought the pieces, the nuggets and wings. Only ate the wings because the chicken looked very old. Like it had been refried. The spicy fries were ok. Nothing special. The nuggets are yellow ...looked like they not cooked at all. Not nice at all. The chicken tasted boiled under all the crispy batter. The worse was the biscuit. Bad bad bad. I dont even know what that is. I know how its supposed to taste from when Chic -Fil-A was in South Africa yeara ago. Its supposed to be buttery and moist. Like a scone. But this was just salty and doughy and really bad. Wont be back!
Kylz.stephen
Although our order was ready quickly - the service was poor, the chicken was super greasy and quite frankly I've never had such a bad stomach cramp from eating chicken. Very disappointing and painful.
Lucianrajah
I never thought I'd see the day where chicken seemed unhealthier than you know where but this is it. Refried, stake chips, a Cajun style that's extremely bland, a hot sauce that isn't hot and a hefty price tag that isn't worth the money. Nice to try but is a novelty. I wouldn't return.
Taariq Benn
The chicken is quite flavourless, so much so that it was hard to differentiate between mild and spicy. The pricing is not great either, as this is the most expensive out of the 3 major fried chicken franchises. If you fancy good food, don't bother going here.
Ruturaj Vaidya
Not good food. Tried Cajun Wings and Nuggets. Wings looked like yesterday's, nuggets tastes like uncooked. Sauces are good though. Service is good and attendants are friendly.
Amit Govind
Yet another American franchise that every foodie has to try and like always being new be prepared to wait in line for a taste of pseudo plastic Louisiana street food.
Expectation is a spicier chicken licken which is probably on par but service and overall experience is sub standard. Only thing worth a try is the Cajun fries which is addictive but the rest is really a meal one would enjoy upon curing a hangover.

P
The chicken pieces tasted and smelt of urine! The chips where crap. Don;t waste your time trying Popeyes it is rubbish! Service was quick and friendly just the food was awful.
Jenny Louw
My boyfriend is a huge fried chicken fan so I got a bunch of takeaways for him. He said it was his new favourite which is huge news since he's obsessed with another fried chicken joint. His advice though, is go for the chicken and not the 'sandwiches'. Their chips are super tasty 👌 The staff were also very friendly.
Trishana Mungal
Service was quite fast. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The chicken is quite bland unless you have it with a dipping sauce. Tasted like boiled chicken coated in cornflakes.
The curry sauce and the spicy mayo were quite nice with the chicken.
The chips are delicious.
Overall it's worth trying out but nothing to die for. Prices are decent but I'd rather stick to KFC.
Tsenge
A disappointing experience given the hype around this franchise . Pros are that the wait to order and to receive the food wasn't too bad and the chips were nice and crispy and the biscuit was fresh. However the chicken was bland. Like really bland. When ordering I was asked if I wanted hot or medium and when I ask for hot she said, sorry it's not available. Why ask if I want it if it's not available? Then when I got home and opened my 2 piece chicken combo, it was actually 1 1/2 as the second piece was a disappointing looking wing. Then when I tasted, there was nothing that screamed cajun or Louisiana in there. All you could taste is the chicken and the buttermilk they use in the coating. Would I go back there again.....maybe to see if the " hot" redeems the experience but otherwise no. And to top it all off, it is one of the more expensive take out places when it comes to this type of food. Definitely didn't get the bang for my buck.
Nicola Scott
The burgers were good. At times it tasted boiled. Better spicing than KFC. Loved the chips. Wings tasted like fish and were oily. Tenders were moist but lacked seasoning. I would buy the burgers again.
Ruben Du Toit
Worst chicken I've ever had. Old and dry and even found a piece of what looked like hair on a piece of chicken. The fries are horrible and the "biscuit" even worse. Not even worth trying. Stick to kfc or chicken licken

We finally decided it was safe to give Popeye's a try. After reading several mixed reviews, I kind of knew what to expect...and what to order.

We had a Extreme Cajun sandwich with fries, 3 pc spicy tenders with the curry dip, 4 pc Cajun wings with the Louisiana dipping sauce and the infamous biscuit (only had one because I heard they're ultra dry).

The sandwich was delicious, but nothing worth going back for (the Zinger burger...beats it 10 - 0). The fries were super tasty and crispy. The wings have less flour than KFC's, but lack taste...the Louisiana sauce doesn't help as it also lacks taste (almost tastes like the Chicken Licken Soul Fire sauce)...they're better with the Curry dip. The tenders were truly tender and crspy, but lacked flavour on their own and needed a good coating of the Curry dip with every bite. The curry dip BTW is really delish! I must say I really enjoyed this "deadly" biscuit, it wasn't dry at all (almost tastes like a scone).

Even though my overall experience was good, we have three chicken outlets that will easily give them a run for their money.
Shameema Suleman-Omar
I tried this place a few nights ago after hearing mixed reviews. However it was actually quite nice, the tender strips I ordered were tasty and the chips were really good. Service was also good as they accommodated our request on a mixed tray of mild and hot strips.
Hlayisani Sambo
No foodie wants to miss out on a new craze, even if it means queuing for an hour. The chicken is quite tender and a tad spicy. The biscuits are dry. The chips have a lovey Cajun spice but are too few. Judge for yourself. I'd rather stick to out local spicy chicken outlets.

We went to Popeyes on a weekday and we were very happy that we didn't have to wait in the line for long. The lady that took our order at the counter was still a bit unfamiliar with the menu. We ordered a sharing meal with wings and tenders. We were charged more than what we we supposed to but when we spoke to the manager about the mistake he handled the situation professionally and happily gave us our money back.
The biscuit that came with the sharing meal was tasteless and a bit dry. It didn't really go with the chicken. The chicken that we received wasn't fresh at all and cold. The flavour was good but it would've definitely tasted better if the chicken was hot.
Overall, we think the place is a bit over priced and the chicken is extremely average. In all honesty we would prefer chicken licken or KFC.
Calvin Chetty
Burger: 2.5/5 was average
Wings: 2.5/5 almost like kfc but less taste
Chips: 1/5 had a burnt taste
Biscuit: 1/5 salty and disintegrates once u take a bite
Louisiana sauce: 4/5 only thing that had enough flavor

Wouldn't go back to try anything else based on what i had...
Azrah Kadwa
Everyone loves fried chicken & if you don't , you're probably on a diet ... but that's okay :)

Popeyes fried chicken is pretty average and lacks seasoning. I enjoyed the chips as it was seasoned really well and the biscuit was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. I do prefer Chicken Licken over this any day. However , Popeyes is pocket friendly.

Genevieve Law
We loved the crispness of the chicken. We find the batter lacks flavour when compared to KFC. The chips have a nice seasoning to them, however we found the biscuit to be very dry and the coleslaw was very sweet. My favorite were the sandwiches because they had the most flavour. Service was speedy despite the long line.
Lishano Williams
Today for lunch, me and friends of mine decided to try Popeye's at Eastgate in Johannesburg, looking forward to a great food experience. The service was quick and the waitress was very helpful, so we were off to a good start, however after receiving my food, i quickly changed my opinion about Popeye's, The cole slaw was just cabbage and lettuce filled to the brim with no salad dressing or mayo in, i moved this to the side of the table and decided to focus on my wrap, to my surprise it was only filled a quarter of the way, Will definitely not be returning to Popeye's
Avashini Khan
Service is fast once you place your order so that's a good start. I found the menu a bit limited but hopefully it will expand soon. I ordered a spicy chicken combo, the chicken looked dry but when I tasted it, it was so moist and full of flavour. The biscuit is like a scone, I didn't like it and it was undercooked. If the chips wasn't drenched in oil it could have been tasty I'm sure. Will be back to try out the sandwiches.
Junior.ngulube
I was fortunate enough to get to eat at Popeyes on the day it opened. I was really excited as I consider myself a fried-chicken connoisseur (a-la-The-Pengest-Munch). What i experienced that day at Popeyes Sandton was pure garbo 🚮 (garbage, for those who don't get it). I ordered the Cajun fries, chicken wings, 4 chicken pieces and two biscuits.

The chicken was super flavorless and overcooked! In fact, the chicken tasted like it was seasoned with baby powder. The Cajun fries were okay...but by far, the worst part of the meal were the biscuits! They tasted like salty dough! I only took one bite and threw the rest away!

Never going back there again.
Kimeshen Govender
Nothing amazing about any of the food. It's all bland and crispy. Whether its wings, nuggets or chicken pieces it all tastes the same. Their wings reminds me of a local favourite's spicy wings just without any taste. Bitterly disappointed !!!
I_Viewfoods
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen! Wow, how foodies across Johannesburg could not wait until the grand opening to get a taste of what this new brand to South Africa had to offer, all we knew was that the first store would be in Sandton City, which meant it had to be good, but was it? Visiting this place 4 times in a row, I can confirm that YES, it was worth the queue! Crispy Spicy Chicken with their signature mash and gravy, and biscuit was so good that I had it 3 times. The staff were friendly and their pricing gives them an opening to place more stores throughout the country. I will definitely frequent this brand as long as the quality remains top notch. Welcome Popeyes, we hope you stay!

Visited Popeye's at Eastgate...

Definitely an experience I want to forget. I ordered a Cajun Extreme Sandwich with some wings and tenders, The Cajun Extreme is not very Cajun and on par with the entry level burgers of KFC.
The wings however very crispy they are lack taste. And then the tenders, I took one bite into a tender to find it just just undercooked but completely raw. The infamous buttermilk biscuit is nothing more than an over salted scone... The coke was good though
Kanch
This was the worst chicken I have ever had, I honestly wish I could get my money back. Firstly the chicken was dry and tasteless. Secondly the biscuit tasted like it was not cooked I took one bite and actually spat it out. Honestly this place is not worth the hype at all!!!
Shrimay Balkissoon
Poor quality food which lacks flavour and gave me food poisoning. Everything seems to be fried in old oil which gives a nauseating taste. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
Bea Pineda
There was a long line, so the long wait was inevitable. After ordering, one of the crew noticed me waiting and hurried my order up, so that was nice. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, but i'm only giving a 3.5 rating because they forgot my biscuit.
Lucian
So I decided to try out Popeys while at Sandton City. Had to queue for about 20 minutes until I reached the front of the queue. Glancing at the menu, I noticed that the selection is fairly limited and decided to try the Cajun wings, cajun chips and 2 "biscuits" (scone like cookie).
I received my order within 5 minutes and sat in the main food court. They do have a dining area upstairs.
Took my first bite and immediately noticed that the "batter" is all over the place (messed with each bite). Taste is good - spicy. Loved the chips. Enjoyed the "biscuit" as well (will advise to eat it while warm).
I will go back, but when I'm in the mall. Not drive there especially for their chicken.
Tasmika Amin
I'm a major fan of fried chicken - but I mean who isn't? - so I was thrilled when I found out Popeyes was opening in Sandton.

But once again I was let down by another one of the new overseas franchises brought into SA.

The lady who served me for the order didn't seem to know much about the menu when asked, and honestly had a rather indifferent attitude.

The meal was out fast so that was a positive.

The chicken was very average and overcooked, honestly I'd prefer to stick to KFC zinger wings. The Cajun chips while well seasoned, tasted as though they had been lying out for a while. And the biscuit is basically a slightly dry salty scone.

There was only one dessert option available and it was the only one I had no interest in trying.

Overall, I was disappointed. So disappointed I actually didn't even take any pics of the food. Plus it was served in the white paper bags, no boxes. Petty, but it does make a difference.

Tanya Chirimuta
This experience is not really worth the hype. It's decent chicken but a doughy 'biscuit'. However, the chicken is very moist on the inside. Would only go back for the Cajun fries!
NicBLAZE
Ok so after hyping myself up and getting really excited to try something new in the fried chicken world i ended up leaving with the feeling of regret and sadness.

I mean seriously, american southern fried chicken, i expected to feel like i was in new orleans mid 80's enjoying some deliciously spiced chicken. but instead i was greeted by a VIP line that moved slower than the normal line.

After about an hour of waiting in line we are greeted by a friendly staff member ready to take our order, which really improved my mood, she was quick and helpful and within moments we had our order number and the waiting game began AGAIN!

Once received we headed upstairs where a few celebrities chatted and took a million pictures of each other trying to get the best picture for the newspapers and social blogs. I didn't care much for that, i had come for the food.

The chicken was still warm but the chips were cold and that so called biscuit looked like a sad piece of undercooked dough. but hey we are here to try it so lets dig in.

The chicken was hardly seasoned, no salt and barely spiced up, nothing impressive about it at all. It was cooked quite well not as oily as their competitors but that doesn't help when it has no taste.

In terms of chips again they were not seasoned properly. they have this fantastic taste that is comparable to simba mexican chilli chips but without salt i couldn't eat them, and so i decided to put some chicken on the half cooked biscuit and realised very quickly of mistake i had just made, it tasted like salty wet dough. absolutely horrible.

The coke was okay though.

If this is the launch of their product i don't see how they are going to survive in south africa where fried chicken is one of the most ordered take away meals.

I have no doubt that maybe because of the launch and having to serve so many people they might have suffered in quality and I would love to try them again but i will not be forking out my hard earned cash for something that is mediocre at best.
Parushin Naidoo
We ordered the Spicy Chicken , Wings, Tenders and chips which was delicious and the best I've tasted . I found the biscuits to be a little salty(not sure if that's how it should be) and the coleslaw was tasteless like they ran out of dressing for it which was a shame. In terms of pricing it's not bad , 15pcs chicken combo , 8Wings and 3Tenders all for R330 and the size of the chicken pieces are huge , great value for money. The chips has like a batter on it which makes it extra crispy and delicious. I found eaten hot the chicken is not oily at all but once cold it does become rather oily.
Monochrome
Service pleasant and quick. Food similar to KFC but less greasy. Definitely wouldn't return here. Food is below average. Chicken licken is probably tastier.
Sharima Bramannan
I'm always amazed how we as South Africans get fanatic about American brands opening...Popeyes in no exception. I went 6 days after the opening but there was still a eager queue. Service was quick tho. We had a sharing meal...6 tenders, 5 wings, a biscuit and the Cajun chips. The biscuit is pointless; the chicken was flavoured spicy and very good; the Cajun chips were delicious!
The Food Musketeer
18.07.2017 Today I was invited to have lunch here to see what all the hype is about. On entry there is still really long queues. We placed our orders and luckily it didn't take long for it to arrive.

I had the Chicken Tenders Combo which was 3 pieces of Tender yet really Crispy Chicken pieces with their Cajun Fries and a Coldrink. It comes in Spicy and Plain if I'm not mistaken. We also got the hot sauce which tastes just like "Soul Fire". We unfortunately didn't get to taste the Biscuits or the ranch or spicy mayo sauce. They also have coleslaw which tasted nice. Not sure how the others felt about the Chicken pieces or the wings but mine was good. Will go back when it's quieter to try out some other items.
TwoTastyTummies
Chicken dinner, but is it a winner?
Popeyes just opened its very first doors in South Africa at Sandton City, and the launch was a major success.

Hundreds of people were standing in queues the whole day just to get their hand on some new crispy fried chicken.

So the service was good. Even though the staff was working like crazy trying to help everyone and cook all the food and manage the servers going down, they still helped us with a smile.

Let us hope the service stays this good.

Now let us get down to it. Popeyes has some serious competition in terms of chicken. We already have a lot of fast food restaurants that sell all types of chicken, so they better come with some seriously good food.

We ordered chicken pieces, sandwiches (burgers), biscuits and chips. All of it was mild flavour and all of it was okay. Really nothing special to it at all. The chips were definitely something new and a lot better than most fast food places. The biscuits were so damn dry though, wanted to dip it in my Coke just so it goes down easier. Pretty sure a gravy is in order here.

We do feel like we should probably go and give them another try though, and make sure we order all of our chicken with their spicy or Cajun flavour, seeing as this is what they brag about.

TTT’s rating out of 5: Food – 2 | Service – 4 | Speed – 4 | Value – 3

Popeyes gets a fist bump from Two Tasty Tummies.
