Review Curry And All - Sandton

Raelene Slaughter
Being from Durban, I have been searching high and low to find an authentic curry restaurant.. best believe I have found it!! The food is beyond delicious.. and the lady at the counter is the sweetest you could come across... the food here tastes like home.. and the portions are generous yet so affordable... my favorite has to be the Soji!! I will definitely become a frequent customer at Curry & All.

Probably the best Lamb bunny chow in Johannesburg (subjective, I know). I’ve eaten at a lot of the South African Indian styled restaurants and this lamb bunny is number 1. The bread was super fresh, curry was piping hot, overflowing, flavourful and had the right amount of heat. Couple that with melting potatoes and sufficient amount of meat and you have a winner. The samosas and soji were also worth a mention. Definitely worth repeat visits.

I wish I lived in Santon! Lord knows if I did, I’d be eating here on regular basis. I’ve had their bunnies before, when my partner drives out to Johannesburg he knows not to even ask, just get me a bunny chow! This was my first time actually coming to the restaurant and I was pleased to see the range of Indian cuisine available. I obliviously ordered my usual mutton bunny chow to eat in and it was perfect with a kick of chilies (I adore spicy food). We also ordered their special, lamb dhall ghos with chapati, for takeaway and I’m so happy that we tried it because now I have another favourite dish from Curry and All. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is chilled and the area is clean. Would definitely recommend it to any and everyone.

Curry and All is now relocated across the road from Morningside Mediclinic. The food taste and quality never disappoints. There is plenty of food variety to choose from If you are daring you can try their speciality menus. Check them out when ever you are in the area. They are open from Monday right up to Sunday.

Catering done for a Thanksgiving. The order and delivery handled so well. The food was AMAZING! The amount of food was way above expectation. Every bite you could taste was made with care and love. Thank you Dheerin and to your Mom too. Definitely a recommend for your catering purposes.

Nice chilled atmosphere. Cool imagery and vibey area. The complex they are situated in is also quite a nice one with amenities. Their prices are well worth it and you get great taste and content. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for South African Indian cuisine. You don't have to wait too long either depending on the queue, so it's always good to call in advance first to order. Ps. They make kick mouth watering and authentic bunny chows.

Tried the chicken bunny chow, and thought that it was enjoyable. Not many places serving good bunny chow in the Sandton area, so it's great place to go. Service side was OK, a bit expensive as there wasn't many pieces of chicken, but portion size was good overall.

If you're looking for a great bunny, curry and rice, biryani (availabile on Fridays) in the sandton area then visit Curry and All. I drive from Pretoria, that's how tasty their food is. You can add chilli for that extra kick. Its a small restaurant but they do have a sit down area as well as basin and tap to cleanse if you eat with your hands.

Subjectively the best lamb curry in jhb, also the best veg pickle. Delivers through Uber eats (in sandton) in under 15 mins.

We were in the hunt for a good lamb bunny chow and we were not disappointed!! The best we've had in Jhb thus far and as good as the best that Durban has to offer. Soft, succulent lamb pieces with melting potatoes in a delicious, spicy curry and not to forget the freshest of bread. Boy did it hit the spot! I doubt you will find a better lamb bunny chow in Jhb!

Walking in to their new branch to me today, I remembered their first place at the engen garage on the corner of Katherine and Grayston, they have certainly grown from there, but the most important part has not changed, friendly service and good spicy food at a reasonable price. Well done! 😊

Bunny chow from Durban with lots of love🤗, classic Durban styled bunnies. Very cool ambience to enjoy some good meal. Love love it!

I've been eating at Curry And All since they were at their first location at a garage in Sandton, and their food quality is always tops! I love their food!

I'm pleased to notice that the qualify has drastically improved. Ate here after a long time since I was last left disappointed with the quality. I must compliment Rose and Khosi for their excellent service. The lamb curry was absolutely tasty , however the rice had less salt and the chicken breyani was a bit bland. Overall glad to have curry and all back. Supported them since the engen garage days.

This is authentic Durban Indian cuisine at its best, for those of us on the go, outside KZN. Great value for money on all meals. Excellent customer service during each of my regular visits to this retailer.
Shiv
Excellent food. Flashback to eating Durban curries. Recommended for a good hearty meal. Great service. Thumbs up!

I don’t like posting bad reviews but this needs to be said.

There was a time when I would get a mutton bunny from here once a week. That’s how good it was. Recently (~last 9 months), I have not enjoyed any of my meals from here. The spice level is inconsistent and the mutton bunny has too many bones and is way too dry. Most importantly however, the service is shocking. The owners and helpers alike do not greet let alone smile. They are unhelpful and seem almost irritated. Unfortunately, because of location and lack of nearby competition, this place will always be busy but they have lost me as a customer 👎
Vin And Mandy
We bought a quarter mutton bunny. The curry was not that great. A bit dissapointing especially trying to manoeuvre through the small bones. The packaging had taste.

Having visited this place many years ago I was a bit sceptical about trying them again, especially when ordering take away bunnies. It was however, amazing! The mutton pieces were plentiful, potatoes soft and the whole thing didn't disintegrate when opened 30 minutes later. I just wish they'd added (or given us) a bit more gravy. If you plan on visiting here, go early as it gets extremely busy and once a curry is sold out, that's it.
Gralphs1
Love the mutton bunny. Very authentic Durban style. Lots of Durbanites go there so you must know. No flashy decor but the food makes up for it. They said they are moving. Hope not too far...

Got it be the best Mutton Bunny in JHB , from the flavor to the look hands down the best . It’s a tradition Durban curry , which hits the spot and they are not shy with the portion size either!

I've been on a quest to find the best breyani in Joburg. My colleagues have been raving about this place so I decided to give them a shot. The reception from staff was cold and they weren't very helpful to me during the order process. I got a chicken breyani, but they failed to inform me that it doesn't come with potatoes, I guess that's an extra that you have to pay for. The chicken was so dry and bland, it was really hard to swallow. The whole dish lacked that punch and aromatic flavour that is synonymous with Indian food. I was very disappointed, I won't be returning.
Mayuri
Was craving a 'Durban' mutton bunny, sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. It was good but it lacked the flavor I was searching for. There was an abundance of meat and potatoes which was a pleasant surprise:)
Christopher Anastasiades
Super quick service, very friendly staff and the Chicken Bunny chow is huge. The food tatses authentic and there is more meat in a dish than "fillers". Good food and big portions!
Nerissa
Curry and all looks like authentic indian food. However our experienve left us disappointed. We had the mutton bunny and mutton roti wrap. The biggest problem was the meat was very fatty and did not taste great. There were also too many small bones, which was strange and not enough gravy. Also not that spicy
Yuri Ramkissoon
This place was awesome when it first opened. But over the last year the quality has deteriorated terribly. The mutton is fatty and boney. I don't mean that it includes meat with bones, I'm fine with that. But there are bones everywhere, large and tiny. I don't think that any of their meat is boneless. They obviously skimp on the quality of the meat to ensure a larger profit margin. I usually enjoy the bread and gravy in a bunny but even that isn't good anymore. The curry tastes unbraised and the masala tastes raw. Their biryani is okay. Nothing to write home about. My mum enjoys their potato curry. Below average for me. I won't waste my time with them anymore.

Curry and All is the perfect spot for Indian cuisine cravings, they have everything, our order was ready very quickly, the food is nice and spicy as expected.

After hearing all the good things about Curry and All I definitely had to give it a try ..
My colleagues and I we tried it for lunch today and ordered Mutton Bunny and chicken curry with Roti and rice ..
Mutton Bunny was the winner I would definitely try it again ...
The portions huge we could barely finish our meals ..
Interesting informal spot definitely going to be regular for take aways this coming winter ..

Have heard so much about this place and all the hype on their mutton bunny chow as well as mutton r
Roti decided to try it out today and ordered mutton bunny chow..it really did not live up to the hype the curry just lacked spice and depth of flavour for a curry..I doubt I'll be back again..food is reasonably priced..
Octavia Venables
Love this place. Tasty mutton bunny, very quick with service ideal for a quick lunch. Best bunny chow I have tried in joburg. The bones in the bunny might be if concern for some, for me the flavour is spot on so taking meat off the bones is just part of the messy delicious food experience.
Eve
Really great authentic Dbn cooking. I dont often drive this way but my eating experiences here have been great.
Their breyanis as top notch,. Its certainly a place to satisfy a curry craving.
Yash
Mutton bunny is great. Proper Durban taste. Only problem is the meat has too many bones (big and small bones - the small ones are the problem). The mutton briyani on Fridays is great too.
Kamini
High expectations given the rave reviews but i was terribly disappointed.

Ordered the mutton bunny yesterday afternoon and it tasted like the spices were not even cooked out properly. So all we tasted was a lot of raw spices. Definitely won't be eating here again.
Hema Arun Dhingra
For instant heartburn that lasts for days, this is the place to go. Most horrible roti roll ever. Drenched with oil. The roti is was raw. The meat was off poor quality. I really don't know what the craze is about this place. You can taste the raw masala in the food. First and last time there. I rather have quality than quantity
The Great Diner
DEFINITELY WON'T GO BACK. Visited after a while, thought it would be a great work lunch. Was nice and empty, didn't have to wait in a long queue. Ordered over 12 items, and then get charged for a serving container. This was most unacceptable. The gentleman offered to refund me, but when the lady came, she had the audacity to ask me "HAVE YOU EVER WORKED IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY". Imagine a customer being spoken to like that, when you are spending almost a thousand bucks on a single lunch order. After all that, mutton curry was way too oily and bland. Didn't have it's usual nice kick.

It's sad that once establishments get a good clientele, they start treating customers so poorly.
FoodiewhippedSA
I love this place some really authentic durban Curry and it always goes down on a cold rainy day. I love the new premises.

The old one was a bit dodgy. At the back of a petrol station. The new place is vibrant and so inviting.

My favourite is the mutton roti... omg this is heaven heaven when you eat it you will definitely understand.

Great food and great people. My no 1 Curry take out place.
Neil Guravaya
Nice chow..but not a durban chow
...proper durban indian chow coming soon...you wont miss durbs, luggs, govenders, goundens, just bunnys, or britania anymore..cos ul be getting the BEST in jhb!...
Luvelle Naidoo
The food here is always good, but averagely good.
Good South African Indian food, for when you're too lazy to prepare it yourself.

Prices are definitely... worth it.
Shanil Haripersad
Breyani is sooo dry. This is for both the mutton and chicken. Breyani that I had came with no potatoes. Dhal was very bland. Please up your quality curry and all or you will end up like 1860.
Nondumiso Nondu Petlele
Listen there is a reason this place is always packed. Their good is delicious. It's honestly nothing fancy which is fine by me cos I'm there for their lamb briyani, not the deco. They get it right every time. I've heard from colleagues that it's been around for a while and understandably so. Those ladies through down. Oh and the portions are amazing.
Tshego Makoe
I had my first bunny chow experience here :) 2 weeks ago where I order a lamb bunny.

All in all it was a lovely experience. However it was just ridiculously packed on the Friday afternoon I went so should you want to go I would say avoid lunch hour traffic by getting there at 11:00am or after 1:30pm.

The one thing I was concerned about, despite my love for hot and spicy food was the level of heat since all the meals come preselected. Needless to say, it was just right. No runny nose or burning ears experienced!

I would definitely go again but this time to try their mutton and roti which looked amazing.
Zelm
If you're craving a hot Durban style curry, it's just unbeatable. Every time I think of Curry and All's food I start to salivate. Get there early on a Friday, it gets busy!
Tristan Naidu
Food is great and prices are not too bad as compared to Joburg prices but service is very bad. The lady can be very rude and makes you feel like your money is not important. Although the food is great, i won't be visiting this place again because my money is very important to me especially in such a bad economy so i choose not to spend it on someone that can be sooo rude and unfriendly!!

Going Down hill - I visited Curry and all on Saturday evening (18th June) at around 5:45pm) this place is normally really nice it was one of my fav places around - Ii have been there many times, but this time it was bad, and seems like it is now losing its touch now.

People are bringing food from other outlets and eating in this place, there was a table of 4 Guys eating and Drinking Alcohol bought from the take away next door, there were loud as well, there was also another table having Chinese food , It is starting to become a Shebeen atmosphere doenst look safe at all,

the Food is also starting to really drop - They increased the prices and the bunny for example seems to have shrieked in Size, its the smallest Quarter i have purchased from a Indian Take away, and for R60 it is not Value for money.
Yudeshtra Naidoo
Excellent satiating curries. This really hit the spot and warmed me up on a chill day. Curries are just the right amount of spice and was made fresh.
Chanel Pillay
I wouldn't say they the best in curries in Joburg but definitely good enough to have an enjoyable meal.

To eat, my boyfriend had the lamb breyani with all the usual condiments that go with breyani. He thoroughly enjoyed it and he said it reminded him of the breyani's we get served at weddings. (I think most Indian's will understand that reference) I had the chicken bunny chow which had plenty of gravy as I requested and the potatoes were soft which is a must.

The portions are also very big and I struggled to finish my meal.

Overall a nice meal that is true to the Durban curry flavours.
Diederik Van 't Hof
A whole 12 items on the menu. And that comes in small or large. I have known this spot from the days when it was a small take-away under the Grayston Drive bridge. Now they have moved up the road to slightly more formal premises! Rough and ready, always full of people - and probably one of the best value for money yummy curry spots in town. R60 for a full plate of delicious, aromatic and flavourful curry. As a quick-stop on the run - definitely worth a try.

Ah Curry and All. My partner should become a brand ambassador for them because he is convinced they have the best bunnies in JHB. I finally got to try it out yesterday, and I have to admit, it wasn't half bad. However, the meat was a bit tough and I prefer bunnies that don't have bones in them (just my preference!) I have had their mutton curry with roti before, and although the flavour was there, so was a gallon of oil which was rather unfortunate. If you do go there, be sure to rather get a take away as I saw unfortunately a cockroach prancing around on their tables - though their kitchen looks clean so I wouldn't at all be concerned about the food. They are quite busy and sometimes even run out of food before the end of the day so they are selling quality food! Plus, compared to many other Indian restaurants, their prices are quite affordable! So as a take away spot for Indian food, and with an odd location (by a garage?!) but in the heart of Sandton, this place is your winning choice. Will Definitely be back again :)
*PHOTOS TO FOLLOW*

I must say the food is great and will always support Curry and All!!! I have a question and maybe someone can shed some light. On the receipt it states "Tax Inv No." VAT is being charged but there is no VAT number on it. As far as I am aware that if it says Tax Inv there has to be a VAT number on it or an amount (price) that excludes the VAT line.
DebbyGP
I've gone to Curry and All a few times now. Curry is premade so it's quick, but tasty and affordable. A word of warning though, my last purchase (chicken curry and roti) gave me food poisoning which was not pleasant.
Naushad Goberdan
Ok don't take your white friends here, they'll get their taste buds dalad! this is curry! grip yourself a bunny, take it to the park and revel in greatness while you destroy your curry cravings!
Nadz
omg!!! Finally got to sample the food at Curry and All. This place has no frills ... So if you're expecting bells and whistles .... Try somewhere else!!!! But if you want good authentic Indian Curry, then this place is it!!! But a word of warning, the curry is a bit pungent .... 😕

Okay - It's literally on fire🌋🔥, but then again I cannot handle pungent food (I know. How can an Indian not eat pungent food????) 👀

Notwithstanding the rocket fuel level of heat... I still devoured the curry, even though it felt like I should have sat next to a fire hydrant!!! #divine! #ItWillKillYou... But so damn tasty!!!👍👍👍👏

Used to be great when they were down by the garage on Grayston, and people used to queue for their food. Since gaining popularity they have lost some of their quality, probably because they have to cater for much more people based on their location bang smack in Sandton. Not the best sit down store but its affordable and if you are really lazy to cook a curry they are ok, but no longer as great as they once were. Pitty though, I really liked the old places food. I'd say better than 1860 by a long shot, on par with Currylicious but lagging behind Curry Boss Bryanston. Time to up the game Curry and All, considering you have a fantastic store in terms of location (Not fit and Finish though, It looks like a 1970's Porra Fish and Chips joint)
Melinda
Simply the best Durban Curry available in Jhb! The proof is in the daily queue regardless if it's a hot or cold day. My recommendation is the Mutton Bunny Chow and Chicken Samosas!
Avi
Awesome Mutton bunny. Roti was very good too. Needs a wash up area. But unpretentiously good. Service from ladies behind counter was excellent.
Jackie Jeenabhai
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE. I have been eating here for the past 5 years and it just gets better an better. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. The food is really delicious. I HIGHLY recommended the Dhal gos and rice on Thursdays!
The Food Musketeer
My colleagues bought me a mutton roti roll from here one Friday afternoon. I wasn't too impressed. Personally the flavour was there it was spicy but it was extremely oily and had more fatty chunks with bones rather than meat. If I am eating a roti roll I don't want to be eating bones. I can handle that in a bunny. Think I shall stick to my other old faithful spots for a curry craving.
Angelique Pather
There is no worst craving than that of a mutton bunny on a Friday afternoon. Especially if you've been out the night before and let me tell you this place never disappoints. For a curry joint it's also well priced and that's why this shop is always like a fish market ....busy and noisy ! Today I had the mutton bunny. Delish!
Vinolin Naidoo
If you have hunger pangs for an authentic Durban style bunny, there is no better place than this! However, expect to sweat while you eat this monster! I had the mutton curry bunny 3x so far! However the parking space is terrible.

Great with a cold coke!

Edit: I've tried it again in 13/08/16...not as good as previously tasted.
Nikhil Shah
Awesome all round, small little take away!!! Comes to the bunnies or the Biryani the longs waits are all worth it.. Good portions at reasonable prices..
Lauras World
Nothing quite like a bunny chow on a Friday with colleagues!!

Curry And All in Morningside, have built up quite the reputation for their authentic (no frills) 'Durban' bunny chows and I can see why. I battle with hot food, and a very wise friend advised against the mutton bunny chow, so I opted for their chicken bunny chow instead and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious, the portions were huge and it was very kind to the pocket.

*Recommendation: All food is freshly prepared once a day and people are served on a first-come first-served basis so come early and hungry!

Curry and All was a Sandton institution when it was located at the Engen on Katherine Street. Long queues would snake around the service station at lunch time as it was the only place in the Northern suburbs where one could find authentic Durban cuisine. Roti rolls, bunnies and breyani were staples on the menu and they all tasted amazingly good. Sadly since the relocation their standards have dropped considerably. I find their food to be mediocre now, in fact the last time I ordered the breyani it tasted bland and had a slighty burnt smell. Really such a pity as Curry and All was a firm favourite of mine.
Sharima Bramannan
I caught Curry & All at the good food and wine show. Had their mutton curry bunny...unfortunately it wasn't as good as I expected...lacked spice in my opinion. Will try the shop soon to double check my feelings ;-)
Pei-Lin Chen
Love the chicken and roti or the chicken bunny. The chicken is perfectly sauced and juicy and the curry is always just spiced. If you need to get soul food at a great value, this is the place to self indulge.
Omnomnomm
Found a 1cm long piece of clear plastic in the moongh dhal samoosa today!

This is not the original Curry and All of the Katherine Street filling station. Standards have steadily declined in terms of taste, spicyness and quality and the food is now very average. The broad beans are frequently undercooked in parts and we've twice had bubbling sugar beans. The rotis are part rubber part flaking part raw at times. I do still love the mung bean samoosas and the chevda in tubs but not worth it anymore. Spice Kitchen in Rivonia retains best authentic Durban curry title.
Tarryl Moonsamy
Very average. Bland tasting chicken bunny, price doesnt equal size.or taste and mutton breyani is ok. Over priced. Other similar type places have better prices Service is good and roti is soft

Second Best briyani in my life. That's all I wanted to say but the review needs to be one forty characters or more so I'm just blabbering. Great I made it to two hundred and nine characters. Thanks Zomato. 👏
Travis
Popular spot for a good "home" made curry. I have often endured long queues waiting for food. Tables can be hard to find. There have been a number of incidents which is why they have an armed security guard. Nevertheless, collecting a takeaway will not disappoint

When I started from India, I was told by many people that, I should definitely taste Durban Bunny Chow. When I came to SA last week, I heard it again and today finally went to have it. It was fabulous. Moreover, the chef who prepared the bunny chow was from Durban. The taste as excellent. Quantity was humungous and value for money. I paid 50 Rands for Chicken Bunny but, it was reasonable. A Definite "MUST VISIT".
Leeneshen Govender
Very smart no nonsense curry joint. Small menu which is well executed. Don't overlook the soji!!!.
Curry can be spicy for the uninitiated. But tasty and hits the curry craving out the park...
Priya
If you want Durban style curry then this is your place. It is very close to 'home'. The mutton bunny was good as always. The chicken curry and roti was enough to feed 2 people.
Pbpercy
The Thursday only special of Dalkos Roti is a must have. It used to be the only meal I ordered but I have development a stable palate for Indian cuisine, Thanks to the awesome Dal-K as I like to call it!
Ashish Sewgoolam
Best Durban style Indian food in Sandton. No frills but good and value. I order chicken because the quality of mutton isn't great. Go on a Thursday for the Dhal Gosht special, even if you don't eat the meat, the curry with roti is great.
Liberato
I've purchased from the establishment a few times however the last time was disgusting to say the least. Not sure what has happened to the quality of their food. I almost gagged when I took a bite of a samosa. It was drenched in oil that seemed old and the filling was disgusting. I was sooo disappointed as I have purchased lamb rotis a couple of times and have been very happy. The quality has certainly gone down. I'm not going back there, ever.
Nevan
I would not rate the food served out of this establishment due the low quality meat (poor choice in cuts, probably low cost) and manner in which the food is presented. The taste of the food is not great, oily, raw masala & inconsistent. The heat and spiciness of the food, hiding the fact that the food is not great. This is a poor example of Good South African Indian food.....prepare your tummy for a roller coaster affair, if you're going to eat there!!!
Presh
Dashed through in my lunch hour, ordered a mutton curry and rice as well as a dhall ghosh and rice for my colleague (who allowed me to sample a taste) . Service was quick and efficient. The food on the other hand was drowning in water as if they threw a bucket of it in at the last minute and called it gravy?! Definitely a compromise in the quality of food served! There were also mostly OFF CUT pieces of meat which was tough and rubbery (cheaper option at the butchery as most will know) like rib, cartillage and a few fatty pieces. The food also lacked salt. The masala was grainy with a very sandy texture and as an Indian cook myself, I know this only happens when either the masala/spices have expired or the masala was not braised properly during the cooking process OR it was just low quality masala. For anyone that has come from Durban and experienced the ACTUAL authentic flavorful indian curry, the food here was far from it! I think it's quite sad when quality of food is compromised and in such a great way too! Alot of small to medium restuarant/ take away owners build their reputation at the begining and then compromise on their food poorly once they've generated a significant size in que of people. Unfortunately for us, often the case where food gets cooked in a rush due to the "pressure/demand" or the lack of care taken in preparing it regardless of the que numbers, we endure a badly cooked meal. Sometimes people who crave a really good indian dish end up "settling" for what's infront of them on the plate at a time of hunger. It could also be - that what's quality to one is complete waste to another, I can appreciate that everyone's taste bud's are different "AND ALL" Very Dissapointing to say the least!! Certainly not value for money and not a place I'd visit again nor reccomend.
Shaun Naggan
A decent bunny chow and within easy reach of the sandton CBD - it has become a staple of the office worker. I enjoy the convenience and quick turnaround time. Better get there early to avoid disappointment... By 1pm the popular curries have gone!
Fuzzy Lojic
Difficult to find a curry in Durban that tastes as good as Curry and All. The mutton curry is really spicy. Not for the faint hearted. Worth a mention is the Thursday special, dhal ghos and Fridays Mutton Breyani. Home cooking at its best.
Liza Richard
Great wholesome food...great service and convenient location for a fast food joint.
Marc Schmidt
Friday's are great days to get take aways for the office. Especially bunny chows & curries. Curry and All is a favourite spot among many of the Companies I've worked for.
Timing is important though when going to get food because sometimes the queue can be crazy long.
The service can be slow at times but the curries always make up. They always delicious. Spicy, aromatic, flavourful & yummy. Sometimes too spicy for my palette & I end up sweating like a marathon runner, with their tongue on fire.
Generally the food is great and it contributes to making a Friday in the office the start of a great weekend.
Amy Rusike
No bells and whistles but a quality take-away in the Sandton area! Small but authentic Southern Indian menu. YUM! I recommend the Lamb Roti if you like it hot. Chicken curry if you want it a little more mild.
