Review Vovo Telo - Sandton

Paul Hildyard
Superb morning breakfast. Good sourdough bread, loved my chicken livers with poached eggs. Good coffee too. Happy waiters make all the difference. Thank you
Cindy Husselman
It’s the perfect place to pop in for a quick breakfast / lunch or to stay for a relaxing time, tasting all the treats. The take out menu is filled with good home baked options and the service is great.

This is one of my favourite places to go for breakfast. Not the right place to go if you just want a standard English breakfast or country breakfast but all sorts of great dishes with culinary flare. Even a little bit healthier than some with inclusions of green absent from more traditional breakfast. Love the country kitchen atmosphere. I have heard complaints from some that the dough used for croissants does not leave them light and crusty but rather more substantial and bread like.
Jennifer Bathke
The artisan freshly baked bread is wonderful. The 100% sourdough rye is imho the best in town and always baked perfectly - I call ahead to reserve my loaf to take home. Good coffee, friendly service and a relaxed, happy coffee-shop/bakery vibe make for enjoyable light meals at breakfast, lunch or a late afternoon visit. It's fun being able to watch the bakers at work. Close at 6pm. Sundays close at 5pm

Had a chicken and bacon sandwich and it was AMAZING! Best sarmie I've had in a long time. Staff were great, manager genuinely cared and put effort into greeting every patron. All round great little spot for a quick lunch.

For the love of bread. Recently renovated, the place has lost some of its quirky charm from before. What happened to the persian rugs on the floor and I kind of miss that pigeon mess that was going on in the eve corner, is that just weird of me? Sometimes not being perfect is perfect ya know.

Volvo Telo is fantastic. Their coffee is in a different league compared to other bakeries. I can highly recommend them.
Andrew Fletcher Cole
Personal attention complements some very good fare. While breads are great, coffee was mediocre and pastis de nata disappointing.
Sakib Khan
Good selection of food and baked goods. Breads are made on site. Could do with more gluten free options.
Daniël Cloete
Good value for a lovely ambiance. Encouraged to see Eureka flour in the bakery. Very friendly staff.
Johny Kruger
good menu. just had a cappuccino. I will definitely be back to try some food.
Graeme Scala
Great coffee. Wait staff always friendly and offer efficient service. Love the freshly baked goods. Lovely breakfast spot which seems to be popular on Saturday mornings.
Toni Skuy
Really disappointing birthday lunch today. Long wait for food despite relatively empty establishment. Eggs Benedict was served with a margarine based sauce that tasted artificial. My vegan friend ordered the vegan plate, which arrived with bland Cous cous and over cooked spinach. Management seemed lackluster. Will not be going back.

Vovo Telo Sandown is so disappointing. Great brand and location but everything you order here is average or below. I normally just grab something to go but it’s not worth it. Honestly the worst freezos I’ve tasted and my cake has been stale twice.
Megan Kate
Twice now have I been to Vovo Telo in Grayston and twice has there been fraud on my card. Uber to be exact. This is extremely disappointing and I will never eat here again.

Hi guys and girls. <br/><br/>Food is always fine. Consistency is king and you guys do deliver on that. <br/><br/>Poached eggs will always be a “tough one” to get right all the time. Perhaps spend more time with the cooks with this? <br/><br/>I wanted to sit in the corner of the store... was told by the waiter that manager sits there. Then another customer took the spot. Perhaps more consistency on “rules” or perhaps not have a “fixed” table for the manager (didn’t see the manager till an hour later by the way). <br/><br/>And then just a tip, rather offer me a second cup of coffee then assuming I am finished and place the bill on my table. Would have loved to carry on sipping coffee all day. But after that bill got handed to me I felt I was being rushed out. At 10am. <br/><br/>Just some things to think about. <br/><br/>Thanks again

I absolutely love Vovo Telo’s menu!!<br/><br/>We came here for breakfast and had the Eggs Benetelo and the Corn cake breakfast. Both were delicious although the corn cakes were a bit oily.<br/><br/>I will definitely come back for their delicious lunches and yummy cakes. <br/><br/>

This Vovo Telo really isn’t great. I won’t go back! <br/><br/>Coffee tastes almost burnt. The lemon had a after taste of onion in my water and to top it off, the “waffles” as advertised on the menu arrived as pancakes. The waiters didn’t bother to tell us or in fact knew the difference. <br/><br/>Very very disappointing.

Went there for brunch over the weekend, the flat white was great and the food isn't as good as before. It is still nice but just not the way I remember it. The service from the staff was great so I guess it made up for the food. Will still go back for coffee and some baked goodies.

Ordered scone and coffee, the scone was brought 20 Mins after the coffee and when asked for an extra jam to help swallow the dry scone, waiter said she needs permission from the manager who was in a meeting with the lady owner. Both manager and owner were not bothered about the poor service, left half the scone and while discussing the issue the waiter quickly brought the bill including the scone and collected the money, WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THAT PLACE
Eat Like A King
Lovely freshly baked goods BUT ALL SERVED WITH MAGERINE! I ordered a Coppa Croissant 🥐 because my favourite sandwich 🥪 with bacon, Brie & Strawberry chutney 🍓 is no longer on the menu. The croissant was delicious, real coppa ham but I have an issue terms used on the menu tomato concasse is not sliced tomato, bocconcini is not processed mozzarella! The ‘quality’ on the menu is pretentious & essentially false advertising! Not impressed and I probably won’t return

A cute spot for breakfast over the weekend or to grab a good cup of coffee. It is very busy though. The coffee and drinks are good, but that is about the only positive point to raise. Ordering is sometimes an issue, as they don't have everything on the menu, but lately I have been experiencing that should you actually get what you order, the portions have become smaller and not as refreshingly, tasty, healthy foods as I have known the restaurant to be. In my recent experience I have had only slow service and poor quality and quantity for the price.

Very good and delicious warm scones-could’ve served some more butter and jam with it... the cheese wasn’t good at all, rather have options of cheese available., I’m more of a Gouda type... freshly squeezed orange juice was a bit too sour , not my favorite.

I wanted the beef burger and they only had the Lamb so I gave it a shot. I was under the impression if you pay over a R100 for a burger it would be gourmet burger with lovely bells and whistles. Not the case at Vovo Telo. I got a very tasteless burger with a tiny splash of Pesto and a teaspoon size Boerenkaas on top. Also I expected some very nice chips with it, but I got served about 6 potato crisps that tasted terrible. I wont waste my time going back.

I've come to this Vovo Telo a few times, mostly to grab something to go.<br/><br/>Their meals have been good and the place is popular over weekend breakfasts.<br/><br/>Over the weekend I bought a chicken pecorino sandwich and after getting home, discovered that instead of pecorino cheese they had used what looks like gouda cheese. The whole sandwich had at most half a chicken breast which wasn't seasoned. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I phoned in and was informed that they'd run out of pecorino, which they didn't let me know when my order was placed. For the price I'd paid for the sandwich and getting cheap cheese and a sliver of chicken, I question the consistency of the quality of their food.

Good breakfast spot in Sandown. Service very good, great coffee and food. Nothing that blows your mind though. More effort could have been done with plating and the preparation of the food. Otherwise a pleasant experience.
Food Man
Great spot for a quick bite. the pizza, whilst it's not a clay oven affair, promises a great taste. the confectionary too is up there with the finest, especially when taken with the signature whipped cream. the coconut loaf is a great treat to take home after having had a bite here.

I'm not a huge fan of this Vovo Telo, the venue isn't the greatest and it doesn't have that nice homely vibe like the Bedford branch. I ordered a chocolate vovochino which was quite average. It had a weird texture and a strange taste. I also shared the chocolate milo cheesecake which wasn't bad, but nothing too exciting. Overall I wasn't too impressed and I'd rather stick to the Bedford branch.
Serena
Love the brand Volvo Telo but this by far was the worst outlet I experienced. Food was average and customer service was so poor. Manager was not accommodating in request and staff are poorly trained . ☹️
Esmarie Alberts
Horrible experience, no avo, no bunny chow, no wine, despite the Woolies Food 2 meters away. Would not recommend spending your money here. And def not the most affordable meal in Sandown.

My 3rd visit in a year, 3rd time unlucky. <br/>Often out of stock, today they had no pineapple or fresh scones. This is always communicated long after an order is placed, meaning you end up waiting. <br/>Ordered filter coffees instead, waited over 20min. <br/>New pulled pork Benedict is average, after being told the fresh scones would come out of the oven in 7 min, i only got my meal 30 min later, the scone was dry and old.<br/>At this store you will be ignored, lied to and simultaneously apologized to until you lose your appetite and are left with a bitter taste in your mouth.<br/><br/>In short; terrible service, they never have what you want and you can be sure you will wait forever. Vovo Telo Sandown will be waiting even longer for my return.
SANTANA SIANI
A beautiful little country café offering the freshest baked cakes, pastries, bread and croissants. Wide menu options of crafty meals. Perfect for a Sunday brunch, early dinner or even a quick pop-in before work.

Arrived at 6:48 was first customers to be seated  requested 2 coffees 1 x latte amd 1 x Cappuccino.  8 other people were served coffee before ours arrived.  Got coffee at 7:15 after complaining. Then ordered 2 breakfast 5 minute later was told that they do not have salmon for the eggs benedetto (took bacon). Food arrived, no benedict sauce on eggs, stale croussant (probably a day old), dripping in oil or butter, no garnishing on the plate.  My wife's breakfast was supposed to have cheese sauce, not given had to ask for it.  Pancakes  were dripping in oil and cheese sauce was all lumpy.  Definitely not going back there and not at that price.  This is the kind of food I would have expected to be server at a corner cafe in an industrial area. left at 7:45

Did not enjoy this Vovo Telo. At 9:30am the croissants and brioche were not ready yet. I ordered the Hotcakes which were chewy but did have a decent vanilla flavor. The cappuccino was just too milky with hardly any coffee flavor. Definitely don't think I will be back.

Not the best Vovo Telo branch I have been to. Had the bistro burger which was average. The sweet potato wedge were incredibly buttery and rich -and not in a good way. Service was incredibly slow too.

While eating my meal at this rather soulless place I watched as waitresses stood leaning against walls with their arms folded. I looked at my plate (pic included) and realized that I really must never go to any of this franchise again. I tweeted them: "Pathetic presentation. Apathetic service. Proof that franchising your brand destroyed what made it good."<br/>No response and a week later. I was one of the most loyal advocates of this company when it opened in Auckland Park; now each and every branch I go to offers nothing but a pickpocket of your money. Stay away.

We tend to stop by for breakfast, which is always good. The Eggs Benetelo with salmon trout is a favourite; the toasted croissant really makes it, and the eggs are perfectly poached each time. The Surrey Hills is good too. The Mafiosa is much larger than it looks, and really quite filling. Service is always good too.
Namritha Sivsanker
Mary had a little lamb pizza cost R92 and not the usual round pizza so it is smaller than usual. <br/><br/>Taste was good if you like peas on a pizza <br/>And the bits of lamb was minimal <br/><br/>Busy lunch time vibes

Almost forgot about this place. My favorite. I love their setting I love their food. Not just plain / different. A good different. I would like to own one.

Like their branch in Parkhurst, this place didn't disappoint. Great location, tasty food and pleasant service. Great freshly squeezed juices are a plus

Popped in for a quick breakfast I was in an out within 20 minutes and had a lovely breakfast ... I ordered cappuccino and The Banter breakfast always fresh and on point.. The service was on point ! <br/>I love VoVo Telo😍👌🏻

I would definitely prefer this place over Fournos. A Must Visit. Their Pain au Raisin, sandwiches along with Tony Glass (Lemongrass) Iced Tea is a fabulous combination.

Love me Vovo Telo no matter where it is. This branch is particularly great in their freshly baked goodies. Try the poached eggs or benetelo for a great breakfast.
Salisha Singh
Maybe a bad day but there were no scones, croissants were only being baked at 10:30 and were ready in an hour's time. And no bran muffins after being told that they did have.....
Saiyuri
I love Vovo Telo for a great breakfast/ brunch and this branch is a favorite. I always order the Eggs Benetelo: creamy scrambled eggs on a toasted croissant with smoked salmon trout and lemon butter sauce - delicious! They also have a good range of teas and hot drinks to choose from. Service is always fast and friendly

After a doctors appointment in the Grayston Shopping Centre (and a recommendation by my GP who LOVES his local), I decided to pop in and grab something takeaway. What a nice addition to the centre! <br/><br/>Vovo Telo owes its name and inspiration to an old man ("grandfather") selling breads on a beach in Madagascar. From there, it reached South African shores via PE and traditional Artisinal baking began.. and then grew to include the perfect coffee to accompany it. Since then, Vovo Telo's range of sandwiches, pastries, light breakfasts and meals have really grown with a reputation of their own for fresh and locally grown ingredients.  There is nothing better than biting into a freshly made hot, buttery croissant while enjoying your coffee of choice!<br/><br/>On this visit, I picked up a (single shot) latte and nibble which I thoroughly enjoyed! The service was quick, friendly and now that I know that this spot is here, I plan to pop in this weekend for a breakfast.

Standard Vovo Telo menu. Service was really good and friendly. My friend ordered buttermilk hot cakes (I think - I cant actually remember exactly what it's called on the menu). Basically pancakes - looked absolutely amazing - gorgeously presented. And my eggs and grilled tomatoes were also great! Cappuccinos were made perfectly to order (1 extra hot, 1 weak not too hot). Very pleasantly surprised!!

Stopped for a light lunch. Was pleased with the atmosphere, although every franchise I've seen is always great. Had chickpea fritters with a village salad and a couple tasty dips. To drink, a coco pine freezer. Lovely, although I do recommend they create some more variety for vegetarians as I didn't see many on the menu.
M
Had the portobello mushroom roll and was slimy with no flavour. Waste of money. Panini also could've been crunchier. That meal needs to go. Will try Vovo telo again. But staying away from their vegetarian options from now on. Coffee freezo was average, bit watery.

As a franchise, Vovo Telo is one of my favourite. This was my first venture to the Sandown one, and it too didn't disappoint. <br/><br/>The cappuccinos are great, and the beautifully decorated milk patterns were impressive. There are also loads of other drinks to choose from including the highly recommended Salted Caramel Vovochino. <br/><br/>Don't expect your usual greasy toasted sandwich on white here. The prices are incredibly competitive, the quality of the food evident, and the ingredients all fresh. Our order on the day: Smoked Salmon Trout & Cream Cheese Artisan Bread Sarmie (R60), The Harvest Board (R66) - (Danish Feta, aubergine, rosa tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion, green beans, olives and toasted baguette), and the Chickpea Fritters (R53). All winning choices!<br/><br/>Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, the smells of freshly baked breads wafting through the restaurant complete with good food and drinks... An enjoyable eating out experience was had by all.

The Sandton Vovo Telo is nice but not quiet on the same level as the bedfordview outlet. The service is good and the food is on par with Bedfordview but the restaurant lacks the vibe. Don't get wrong, if you go there you will definitely have a decent meal and enjoy your dining experience, it just maybe end up feeling bland because of the vibe.
Adrian Shannon
Not quite as good as some of the other Vovo Telos I've frequented, but still good. The sandwiches are consistent and the coffee isn't bad...
Marika_Mav
This place is still very average and isn't as good as the Parkhurst branch. The service is very slow, the meals have often been cold and the food doesn't always seem fresh. The bakery is nice, but you don't always find what you're looking for.
Steven Murray
Great Food. Dig that they customize your coffee and always remember me. If you get there early enough you can grab fresh bread straight out of the oven.
Helga De Vasconcelos Sarria
Best poached eggs in South Africa , no one else can get them so perfect every time <br/>Their scrambled eggs are also like heaven , no one can compete , definitely secret<br/>Ingredient as I cannot get them like that as hard as I try . <br/>Best rye bread too , fresh and crispy , Capuccino also amazing , it's the only place<br/>I like going to for breakfast , I go to the Sandown branch
Graham Parkinson
Okay people, coffee lovers unit, this a must for the coffee nutz, i love their coffee and food, the menu is fresh and has a good variety, a must try is the butter chicken Bunny chow, and the BLT, also their pastries are to die for, advice if you're there for bfast or lunch get something sweet to go for that afternoon tea or coffee.

Best place to buy Rye bread in Joburg! I've been coming back week after week for nearly 3 months now. Super friendly, helpful staff and really good service.
Marc Kahn
Vovo Telo is a great find in the area for breakfasts. Good food and good decor. The service is friendly, although not always efficient when busy. We had to wait a long time for our food.
Erusha Raju
Stopped over at Vovo Telo this morning for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised by the tasteful decor, decent breakfast menu and the smell of freshly baked bread. Enjoyed the Poached egg and coriander aioli breaky with a cappuccino while hubby tried out the 44 Stanley special. With all day breakfasts this will definitely be a place we revisit ????

I love Vovo Telo. From the informal country style decor to the hearty smell of freshly baked breads and other treats. This bakery come eatery has gone from strength to strength. With great coffee and an unpretentious menu that offers a good selection of different dishes, I would be surprised if anyone didn't enjoy dining here. Try the scrambled eggs or french toast for breakfast. For lunch I always have the honey mustard chicken salad. Be sure to end the meal with a cappuccino, and buy something to take home.
Danae Horsler
Best breakfast spot in Sandton! Great vibes. Quirky decor... you can even watch the baker at work while munching a very generous amount of scrambled eggs on rye. Love the small details in the decor and vintage tables.

A pretty looking cafe good for tea, coffee and baked goods.<br/><br/>What's Good: the freshly baked Brioche is super. I usually buy a loaf at around R30 and take it home to make the best ever thickly sliced French toast. A great people watching location as it's located in the Grayston Shopping centre with tens of cars and shoppers filtering in by the minute. It's a small centre so not too crowded. Their carrot cake is also particularly good.<br/><br/>What's Not: the staff are not attentive and when it's close to closing time I've received poor service both times I'd visited for a quick cuppa 30-40 minutes before closing. Once I was given a cup with no saucer, no milk and was reminded by the unsmiling waitress who looked very uninterested in me that they'll be closing soon. Had a meal there as well which was not memorable. Didn't enjoy the madeleines either as they're rather dry in texture.<br/><br/>Verdict: good for tea, coffee and bakery items. Not so great for meals.
Mishka Latib
Baked goods are absolutely lovely! Freshly baked brioche on a Saturday morning from Vovo Telo has become a family tradition.. Food is generally quite good, although service is sometimes slow.. Would recommend anything with their brioche, perhaps the French toast..

We went to VT but ordered takeaways, maybe that's why the food was so poor. I had great expectations for this place because the vibe looks good, it's centrally located, and it has a great rustic feel to the brand- but the food didn't measure up.<br/><br/>The steak kebab portion was atrociously small for the price. It was literally 3 mouthfuls of meat and 3 single sweet potato chips. It just looked lazily prepared and under seasoned. <br/> The beef burger patty didn't taste like beef and the bacon was burnt-could barely bite it. <br/><br/>We also waited for a very long time (about half an hour) for the food, which was odd because we only orderd kebabs and a burger:/ <br/>
Cherice Whewell
Pleasant place for breakfast. The menu is appealing and service is standard. Great coffee and atmosphere. It's perfect if you're on your own and well suited for business meetings.
Richard Warren-Tangney
All good as with any Vovo Telo.  You know the cappuccino is going to be good, the baked goods sublime and the ambiance wonderful.  The problem I have with this establishment is the same as the one in Parkhurst... NO WIFI! And this is made worse by the fact that right next door Andriccio24 offers free wifi... Guess who's getting my hard-earned dollar?
Natalie Katz
I love Vovo Telo; it is my favourite place to grab a light lunch and a delicious coffee. I love everything about it. The décor, the ambiance and the waiters are fabulous. AND the bread is out of this world, especially the rye bread. This Vovo is a lot smaller than the other ones, which is lovely. It always has lively atmosphere and the food always tastes good. <br/><br/>My favourite dishes are the Chicken pecorino on toasted rye, and there are a couple of new options on the menu. The Spaniard pizza is delicious- it has chorizo, feta and calamata olives. They also have a gourmet Boerie roll with lovely marinated peppers, caramelized onions and honey & mustard sauce. Another dish to try is the pan roasted Rosa tomato pasta with basil pesto and pine nuts. <br/><br/>They are so reasonably priced; sometimes I go twice a week.
Amy Rusike
I like this place but it's all down to the amazing staff they have. Never have I met a group of more friendly and attentive waiters! Well done to you!! When it comes to the food, it's good but not great. Not much variety but good enough if you're just popping in! Nice coffee!

I first discovered Vovo Telo at 44 Stanley but frequent the Sandown branch more often when looking for a lazy Saturday breakfast. My go-to meal for any weekend breakfast is eggs benedict, so the Eggs Benetelo has also been my choice at VT. Must say I have been disappointed twice here because my meal has arrived without the lemon butter sauce. On both occasions.<br/><br/>The first time I queried this with the waitress she pointed to a piece of salmon and said, “there it is. It has been absorbed already” and looked at me like I had two heads. I had to say that no… there was absolutely no lemon butter sauce anywhere on my plate. I thought I had gone mad. So there I was acting like I was looking for a lost earring under a fluffy carpet whilst picking up my toast and moving food around. Eventually she trudged back to the kitchen and voila! She returned with a whole side serving of sauce that had not come out with the order. <br/><br/>The second time this happened, the waitress and manager sincerely apologized which was nice.<br/><br/>I have also tried the avocado, Gorgonzola and salami pissaladiere, which was has been magnificent every. single. time. It’s actually an absolute must-try! It’s an interesting little pizza made from ciabatta dough so the crust is impossibly thin (my favorite) and you can focus on the wonderful flavors in the topping.<br/><br/>The location is ideal (in my opinion) because it is in central Sandton.
Kirsten
Love, love this place. Upmarket cafe with a great vibe. Upstairs is great for hot summer days or downstairs on cold wintry days :-). <br/><br/>The staff are always warm, welcoming and efficient and the food is delish! They have a wide range to choose from and it always comes fresh and tasty.

I've been to various Vovo Telos, but first time at this branch. Firstly when being seated I was taken to the inside section, in front of their ovens, during a Joburg summer, hmmmm, no - and the establishment was not busy, I had to move.<br/><br/>Then their menu options for a quick lunch are great, even for a vegetarian - and it's nice to see new items added frequently. I ordered a pear juice and their chick pea fritters. The juice was yummy, the fritters very disappointing. I guess in my mind I was thinking falafel, what I received, while very well presented was a solid blob of yellow dough which didn't taste of anything. The chilli salsa served with the fritters saved the day and I slathered it all over my food. A mustard mayo sauce was the other accompaniment, also lack luster with no oomph one would expect from anything containing mustard. <br/>The fritters are served with a side salad, the veggies were crisp and fresh.<br/><br/>Interesting to note, 2 guys next to me, the one guy ordered one of the pizza options, they left the food after a few bites and went to the pizza place next door, he wasn't impressed with his food either.

Had a great meal and appreciated the batistas' creativity

Although the location is not ideal for my taste. Vovo Telo is a great bakery/deli. The food is fresh and tasty with great presentation. The sandwiches are my favourite and I always make sure to buy my bread from this place as in my opinion it is the best available in the area. Try it for a breakfast or lunch. Just remember that it is not open for dinner

I love the Vovo Telo ambience, it´s elegant and simple at the same time, perfect for a breakfast, brunch or lunch. it is just a safe place to go, it will never disappoint you. The service is very nice and friendly as well, always with a smile in their faces, thanks for that Vovo Telo!<br/><br/>Nice food and healthy ♥ I personally love the salads, they are fresh and they have a very delicate taste, the dressing is homemade and it makes a huge difference! <br/>It is a pretty extensive menu as well, you have a lot of options, pizzas, calzones, sandwiches and pastas. They have a great selection of cakes to accompany your coffe or tea. I love the coffe in this place, like always I can not live the place without a coffe ;)<br/><br/>I am a Vovo Telo´s fan ♥

Coffee... and great baked goods, everything from pies to cakes - that's what makes Vovo Telo so awesome. They also have some mouth-watering sandwiches. The venue is comfortable and popular, with outdoor seating (covered in cooler weather). Service is exceptionally friendly, and staff go out of their way to keep customers happy. A great spot for weekend breakfasts - if you can find a table!
Justin Doshi
A great spot for lunch. Delicious deli sandwiches on fresh homemade breads and unique salad are their strengths. They also make interesting pizzas. The place is very inviting, comfortable with a unique design. There is a beautiful terrace and the service is great. I asked for a bit of avocado on my sandwich and they brought me half an avocado, Awesome! This location is right around the corner from where I'm staying. I have a feeling it's going to become my new spot!
