Review Tataki - Sandton

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful restaurant. Sat in for the sushi buffet, it's a bit more expensive than the previous menus that I found online. They didn't have on offer some of the drink choices they were advertising and the ones they had on offer were also more expensive. But understandably so given the circumstances. But the food was incredible, tasted fresh, healthy, served within minutes of ordering, the sushi buffet was filled with interesting options. The staff were super friendly, the inside seats were comfortable and the COVID safety was awesome. It felt safe with the inside car parking. The sunset over the highway isn't the prettiest view but the sounds didn't travel so it didn't interfere with our dinner. The overall experience was incredible, definitely will be going back.

This restaurant is quite hidden if you're not looking past monte casino. I am pleased to have discovered it. It was clean and tidy and well organised. I opted for the sushi buffet, which I do not regret. It was well prepared and presented and flavorful. The staff was also really friendly.

You cannot go wrong eating here, sushi is immaculately prepared and so good. Managed sixteen plates for two people. R205 for a buffet to gorge yourself on. This might become a biweekly affair. Ten out of ten for food, service and atmosphere!!!!

The service is brilliant, the food is amazing and my taste buds were extremely happy😁😁 only reason I didn’t put a fifth star is that the salmon roses sometimes don’t have enough salmon around them and have too much rice. I do understand this is probably due the the all you can eat though. Otherwise it’s thoroughly enjoyable with a divine sushi and Asian cuisine.

As a sushi lover, I’m always skeptical about trying out sushi in places further inland. But this really was so good and I enjoyed every moment of it. We didn’t stay but ordered takeaways. Lovely ladies by the till who told us more about their specials and deals. Now I have a favourite sushi spot when I visit Joburg. A definite must try out!

Great place. We had the bottomless sushi for R205. Sushi was fresh, place was clean. Waitress asked if I wanted more soup after my 4th bowl haha.

The food at Tataki is superb. Always a great experience and their all you can eat special makes it a great destination to go out and enjoy good food. The service does let them down as I always seem to struggle with the waitron staff. Never seem all to eager assist and it always seems to be a task to help customers. But still worth the visit as the food makes up for the service deficit.

Value for money provided you have the special. If you want to have a few plates it's not value for money. As the portions are small. But with the special it's well worth it. Also don't eat off the train on the counter. Eat fresh via the waiter placing your order.

We have enjoyed our outing to Tataki thoroughly. We bought a voucher beforehand at Hyperli for R199 for 2 people for 32 pieces of sushi. It was easy to redeem the voucher which is a plus point for me. The sushi was really good and the service was excellent. We paired the sushi with a cold bottle of Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc. Perfect! We shall definitely visit them again.

They are just going downhill constantly. Problem is the staff are incompetent and nobody there understands what you’re saying properly. Their value for money has deteriorated over the last two years really badly and the staff don’t actually give a crap what they serve to you or what they deliver to your door. None of the staff take any pride in their food or service as if they are just doing their job and cannot wait for their shift to end. Come on Tataki get some decent staff who take care in the food and what they serve to the customer. Once upon a time I would have given you 3 1/2 stars. Your staff should not be dealing with customers you definitely need a food and staff upgrade.

Worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. It's a real shame because the sushi is really good. But in terms of staff it's absolutely ridiculous! Rolling big black bins full of rubbish with a terrible smell through the restaurant during service was a absolute shock. The staff have absolutely zero training or experience! Even with the bad service we always add our tip to the bill and NEVER get a thank you regardless of the waitress. Closing time on the website is 10pm, Closing time on menu is 9pm. At 8pm the staff are ready to go home.

Where do I even begin. The worst part about this business is the lazy staff. Your waitress/waiter will pop in a maximum of 1 time during your sit down. Last night i sat down at the non working belt and sat next to a whole lot of rubbish from a previous client for more than an hour!! Nobody came to clean or collect the cans, glasses and plates. The staff(not the sushi chefs) watch more soccer and talk so loud in the front leaning over everything looking like im in a small bar! Lasg night i had a black bin get wheeled past me 3 times while i was still eating and this is not even the first time , its the third time! Website says closes at 10, menu says closes at 9:30 , staff think it closes at 8:15 due to them asking if i wanted the bill and standing outside basically rushing my meal up! Hey never say thank you for their tips no matter how much it is. Sushi is 3 star, service doesnt even deserve a star! Quickest way to feel mistreated and like you have wasted your money, go to this DUMP!

"Go to Watami instead!" Extremely disappointed. This is not a Japanese restaurant. It's an asian fusion restaurant with 2 Chinese kids preparing the sushi which was terrible. The salmon was cut so thin and they put carrot in the rainbow rolls. The fish was OLD and the salmon was taste-wise almost indistinguishable from the tuna, they're probably stored together. The tenpura was served almost cold and with no 'dashi' sauce. The batter was laid on THICK, nothing like how tenpura should be prepared. We went there with 40 people for a birthday party. The birthday girl should have received a voucher but since we went on the weekend instead of her actual birthday on Tuesday, they weaseled out of the offer. FOURTY FRIKKIN PEOPLE and that's the thanks we get! The food was so bad that we were calculating whether to cut out losses and pay per plate rather than the buffet price. Bottom line, this place is terrible, Go to Watami where they have great sushi but make sure you go on their half-price days.

Sushi was either old or had sub standard ingredients - in fact I think a bit of both - I'm used to a much higher calibre of sushi from better restaurants :( I am concerned I might get sick now :/ the prawn tempura was also barely edible, not hot, old prawns and waaaaaay too much batter and not even the tempura dip? It was served with sweet chilli sauce :/ the food I had tonight has no right calling itself Japanese or even food :( very dissapointed, would not like to eat here again and would not bring anyone I like there :( I eat a LOT of Japanese food and often and this was sadly the very very worst I've had yet :( Please up your standards, throw out old food and train the chefs in proper Japanese cuisine - I'm not sure if it is always this bad or if it is just on the buffet day but either way it's unacceptable :(

Great diversity of dish, not just your plain old normal Maki and California rolls with the of tempura pawn. These guys have it going on.

Been here before and actually really enjoyed the food. This time it is amply clear that they are cutting costs by putting huge balls of rice with paper thin sushi. The worst Salmon Rose I have ever had. Don't bother offering a buffet if you cannot afford to maintain the quality. Won't be back probably ever.

My friend Keabetswe Modikoe and I went to Tataki in Fourways yesterday to end an awesome day in Hartees. BAD MOVE!!! We were really in the mood and decided to have their R139 pp buffet. After some plates, we realised that they were piling on the rice, obviously in a bid to get us fuller quicker. So we decided to be smart and eat only the fish/veggies/seaweed. Needless to say, it was all downhill from there, with management being called to reprimand us. Never again!!!!!!!
