Review Knead Bakery Cafe - Sandton

Neil Sandoz
Awesome spot. Amazing lunch, coffee and pastries. Great service and feel here. We’re from out of town and really enjoyed our lunch. We ended up staying for nearly 3 hrs! Would highly recommend.

Was absolutely awesome. The service was excellent. Shame, we were a huge group and they managed to assist us so professionally. The meal I had wasn't as tasty as it looked (my opinion). But the other options were superb according to the rest of the group. The place is clean and the welcoming. I can go there again.

Love the warmth and food in general. Our orders were incorrect with ingredients missing on two occasions. When they get it right it's brilliant. But I'm weary of the consistency. Sometimes you get biscuits or toasted croissants with the cappuccinos, sometimes nothing. There is water in a large glass decanter with lemon or cucumber for the patrons to help themselves. Position is great next to the river.

Food is always fresh. They have freshly baked breads and pastries everyday. Smoothies are yum. Their tacos are better than some of the Mexican restaurants in the area. They also run weekday specials. It's an open and easy atmosphere perfect place to chill or meet a friend for a coffee.
Gerdus Jacobsz
Good place to try in the mornings, I have personally not tried going there for lunch but I did get take aways and it was an amazing lunch option. They also have the best menu options for all the healthy people out there. Last thing I would suggest trying they're breads.

The store name changed to The Daily.. nice breakfast

Super excellent meals that are well priced. We have eaten at this branch on four occasions and the quality standard of the meal is truly excellent. Very highly recommended.

Amazing. Great menu. Enjoyed the pasta even if it could have been a little less salty. Otherwise, I will definitely go back again.
Caitlin Gottschalk
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Their freshly baked bread is a must try. A great spot for breakfast.
Ildiko Cameron
Great service and delicious breakfast. Also the menu is a little different from other places, not just run of the mill breakfasts!
Cheryl Ndoro
Best spot to stop for a wholesome and healthy breakfast after your Saturday Parkrun. You should definitely try the poached egg on avo toast
Laven Naidoo
Always good food and coffee. Freshly baked bread and prompt service. Worth a revisit.

Fresh, fun and delicious! Love the menu and the variety that they offer. Knead has a very welcoming atmosphere of that local spot down the drag. Great option for a breakfast to get your morning off to a good start. Try the avo and bacon croissant

Popped into Knead, feeling like a sandwich 🥪 and sadly I left with nothing, walked across to Woolworths and bought one there instead. All sandwiches come with salad or chips, no options to grab and go. An additional charge for their lovely homemade ciabatta. Service wasn’t great either, managers unable to help or take innovative. Long stories about the system and the special breads... and all I want is a olive panini to go. Can’t say I’ll be back!

Went to Knead for a post-graduation brunch before dinner and it was fantastic! The staff were lovely, food was great, had delicious gluten-free options and they were nice enough to accommodate a small graduation gift at my mother's request. Super cute!

Stopped here to grab some hot drinks to go. I had the Nutella hot chocolate and my friend had the mocha. The hot choc did not have even the slightest hint of Nutella😒. It was the weakest hot chocolate I’ve ever had. My friend said her mocha had a very strong coffee taste but wasn’t too bad. We also got the giant choc cookie which was chewy and had numerous choc chips. The kids enjoyed this 🍪. Atmosphere looked good, seemed like a nice place to have a weekend breakfast or brunch. There’s a few sweet and savoury take away items as well as freshly made bread 🥖🍞

I wish I could rate this spot higher, as it would be a great local dining spot for me, but unfortunately the service is so bad, it effects the vibe negatively, in my opinion. The tables are too close together so the waiters bump into you and each other and you can hear the jossling between them.

We waited a long time to be served throughout both visits and both times the restaurant was not full. The food is decent, not something I would rave about either... but reasonably priced.

Will try it again, as I hope that if the service got sorted, the vibe would be better, finer details there and then an all rounder for sure

You can’t go wrong with a Knead breakfast. They have a huge breakfast menu with something for everyone. The service can be a little slow but that’s usually because they are full. I love their omelettes and avo toast and my boyfriend raves about their eggs Benedict. Coffee is great and their breads are delicious (I love the sourdough). Also great that it’s near the Bryanston parkrun so you can pop over for a quick brekkie afterwards.

Just had my first breakfast at Knead. It is also my last. Firstly my wife and I ordered a coffee milkshake and freeze. The shake was warm with little or no ice cream and the freezo you could barely taste the coffee. Service very average with tables not being cleaned or cleared. Our breakfasts were also below standard with no tlc. I 😒 wouldn’t suggest this to any of my friends .
Went on Sunday for an early breakfast date. My bf order the breakfast pizza and I had the croque madam. It was all delicious, except the pizza was crispy on the edge of burnt around the edges. We didn't mind that though, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I tried to order a matcha without the mint (allergies) and they didn't actually tell me that they couldn't remove it or why, but it was great service otherwise. I got a takeaway croissant for my sister, which she said was amazing, and we got some bread for Sunday lunch with the family which was also highly complimented by the family crowd later. All in all, a great spot, with delicious food!

Hate writing/reading negative reviews but sometimes something just gets under your skin.

Not paying R65 for avo and toast.

Sorry.

That’s a bit crazy.

Asked the waitress THEN manager to for a piece of toast and avo. She said no. I had to order the closest thing to that on the menu and they would leave the rest off.

Walked 50m up the passage to Riverside Cafe, got great service, sat in the warm sun, and got exactly what I wanted...

I do have some understanding and experience in the hospitality and F&B industry. I know the customer is NOT always right. However sometimes bending set ways and accommodating clients requests go a VERY long way in building customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Will be a while before I come back. Hope the “glitches” get ironed out when I do.

Absolutely wonderful place. Service is a bit slow, but food is worth it. I am an occasional regular and highly recommend it. I love it and try the mince on toast.

Knead has become our go-to breakfast spot on the weekends. The staff are always friendly and efficient and the food is delicious. Great spot for a coffee and quick bite.

No ratings for this Knead I say. My hubby and I went to Riverside Knead Sunday 21 st Jan 2018, what a disgrace . We arrive there and told they closed so I show them on Zomato the time says 17:00 it closes but the waitress spoke to the manager and said it was a mistake but would serve us . By the way countless people walked in after us and were all turned away. We ordered a passion fruit and soda a lime and soda arrived we out being asked if I wanted it due to the fact that they ran out of passion fruit !! Then no Hamburger buns left no brown bread left , i am sure they ran out of chicken because I think it was leather in my sandwich was not edible to hubby and myself shocking certain fillings i asked for on the sandwich ! Manager never came once to the table to see what is going on and to apologize . Felt sorry for waitress just was not her fault. KNEAD group need to jack up their game in Joburg!

The service is terrible. Go there if you are prepared to wait. The food was ok though. It’s a nice cosy place but the staff need serious training. On Saturdays, go before 8 to avoid the park runners hungry mob.

First and last time today. Craft beer advertised on menu in two sizes-500 ml and 330 ml.Ordered the 330 ml and was told that they have no glasses of that size, only 500 ml glasses. At that point I knew I should not have gone there.
Ordered a hot brisket role with chips.
The brisket was so tough that it was inedible and the helping of chips was the smallest I have ever been served.
Enough said !!
Went back much against my wishes and again a disaster. Service shocking and unable to get Parmesan with a pasta dish. Will not be dragged back here under any circumstances.

They are very busy every Saturday due to parkrun crowd so came again to this branch another day.Had a peanut power but lacked flavor and peanut wasnt combining with rest as should be smooth and silky.Friend had a freezo coffee but not strong enough.Toasted chicken was nice and filling salad was okay.Service was quite leisurely especially in beginning as took long time after we sat to ask about beverages.

I popped in for coffee with a friend and decided to try the carrot cake which was very disappointing too spicy and dry then we asked for a decaf cappuccino which was so strong you could bearly drink it even after adding milk

Think the lunches are certainly the best
Today I visited Knead for breakfast in Riverside Shopping Centre. The service was fast and great with very friendly staff. The only problem we experienced was that the smoked salmon lacked flavor was not fresh. Besides that I had a tasteful time. The small restaurant exhumes a relaxed youthful vibe. I would suggest visiting this restaurant in small numbers (up to like 4 people) with any age group.

Delicious meals and the bakery serves wonderful freshly-baked goods! Lovely variety for brunch or lunch. The burger was worth the indulgent splurge. Excellent service.

One of my favourite locals.

The salads are to due for and the bread welll.... no words can describe what heaven on earth is like.

It's a great little gem and you can take your own wine cause they don't have a liquor licence. If you just stopping by the woolies is next door just incase u need a bottle or two.

The staff are friendly and the interior is clean and sleek. It's perfect sized bakery cafe thst caters for those who love the finer things in life.

The smell of fresh bread looms in the ear which makes one feel warm and content.

The portions are substantial so you won't be left kneading....
Awesome Quiz night for weekday evening entertainment 💁🏼❤️ Loads of fun and interaction with great food and wine 😏😁 will definitely be back next week 🤗

Really terrible service after waiting 30 minutes for drinks and 60 minutes for our food we had to walk out without our food. Very disappointing.

I knead you in my life, after a park run on a Saturday morning, grabbing a flat white and a delicious pasty is just perfect. This place pumps and the breads are scrumptious and fresh too. I'll be back for lunch soon, got to try that menu.
Karabo Mabote
The food took to long to be prepared and when it arrived it was underwhelming. Considering the restaurant wasn't full I was very disappointed.

I loved the whole idea of knead bakery. The breads are all freshly baked and so yummy. We had great service from our waiter Revonia , she was kind and pleasant and explained the menu quite well. I tried the classic cheese toast and the creamy mushrooms on toast with a soft poached egg. The texture and flavors were wholesome and great! To drink I tried the green rooibos tea and Nutella hot chocolate. Can't wait to try out the dinner specials 🌸

My husband and I popped in for a quick on the go breakfast. The service was awful! I felt like a jack in the box constantly getting up from the table for service. We had to get up and ask for menus, then get up and ask for someone to take our order.

The food arrived before the drinks, my meal without the extra bacon . Again I had to get up and find the waiter. When the drinks order finally came the coffee arrived without milk and by the time the milk was brought to the table our meal was finished and the coffee cold.

The food was tasty but we will wait a few months before returning.

Lovely little breakfast spot, although we went during lunchtime. The nice thing about this place is that they serve breakfast all day which is a winner. My friend went for the mince and poached eggs which she loved and I opted for the feta+butternut pizza which was divine. The only reason I didn't score higher is that my cafe mocha arrived luke warm and I prefer all my hot drinks to be just that, HOT 😊
The Cutlery Chronicles
Seem to still be having some teething problems, not being able to cope with the breakfast crowds on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It is much quieter during the week though. Coffee is good and is served nice and hot. Ordered a toasted sandwich but the cheese wasn't melted and bread was oily so definitely not the best meal. Maybe need to try something else on the menu, although I feel a sandwich is something which is relatively easy to get right?

My husband and I had a fantastic brunch here this morning. The staff were friendly and efficient and our food was delicious! I had the Croque Spinach and my husband had the Savoury Mince with poached eggs. Eggs cooked perfectly to order and the meals were so tasty. Great coffee and a real treat of a Dark Chocolate Mocha. I can see this becoming our go-to for coffee and brekkie.

I stopped in at my local shopping centre this week for breakfast at Knead Bakery & Café, to try it out.

I was served by Joseph, who was helpful and friendly.

I ordered a savory croissant and coffee. My cappuccino was good and the savory croissant was okay. I will let the photos speak for themselves, but I am not sure if I maybe ordered the wrong first breakfast that maybe does not showcase what Knead can do.
Anyway, since then I have also popped in to buy one of their beef pies and chocolate croissants wrapped up for takeaway. Both were good.

*Recommendation: Definitely a great go-to coffee local and an ideal spot to pop in for a quick breakfast, when you are in the area.

For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

I have been wanting to try out Knead for a while. I ordered low carb pizza. Not very impressed with the food, not sure if I will be back. Service was average
Nicole Vermeulen
Terrible terrible!!!
Ordered a roasted vegetable salad which arrived ICE COLD- clearly had spent many hours in a fridge.
I sent it back and was told by the chef that they serve their salads cold.
The attitude of the staff and the service further ruined the experience.

From the fresh smell of fresh bread in the morning to the smell of freshly ground coffee my taste buds were buzzing from the minute we entered knead. The ambience left you feeling like you were in a modern restaurant although at the same time so welcoming that you almost felt as if you were home. The food was delicious and the tastes tickled my palate. For more read my blog on https://jessbirdinthewild.wordpress.com/2017/05/05/you-need-to-try-knead/

For a restaurant thats only been open for 3 months i highly recommend this fantastic little cafe, bistro, coffee shop. Tell your friends and family about this very reasonably priced, well situated restaurant....

Definitely a winner!!!

Poor service compared to sandton branch. No manager is taking initiative to oversee operations with staff all standing around. Waiting time for take away results to 20mins for a simple sandwich in an empty restaurant.
Gary Clark
Service is average. Food arrived cold (toasted chicken) so I sent it back and I received again in less than a minute cold.
Other than that the food was not bad.
Giselle Van Der Westhuizen
I am very impressed with Knead! The service and food are both fantastic! Best cappuccino I have ever had! I will definitely be back and I will spread the word.
Food Man
Popped in here for brunch and found the service a little slow, waited for food for over 30 mins (long for an establishment of this nature) and when it came, it was good but not spectacular. The omlette was certainly overcooked.

I like the simple clean look with friendly staff who look like they value your support, like the breakfast menu served all day , why not ? Serve crispy bacon without being asked , need however to cook fried eggs 🍳 with more care , I am a stickler for a perfect egg , sure Kneed will do well up here , look forward to more branches being opened 😀

What a fantastic little restaurant and service is outstanding so friendly and caring. It is such an inviting place. The food is really good. My husband and son had breakfast pizza so tasty. I had creamy mushroom 🍄 with and egg on top it was delicious. The coffee is good and there chai latte is one of the best I have ever had. This is definitely one of the best breakfast place I have ever tried. They sell fresh bread and buttermilk rye is so great. I don't have the words to express how much I enjoyed our visit here. You must really try this little gem 💎.

Was honestly expecting more! Service needs major attention. Food was OK! When you take a traditional dish like Eggs Benedict and try make it your own it should be WOW. Not such a fan of the basil pesto that came with it.

We went along to Knead this morning to see what it is like. Nobody met us at the door or offered us a table. When we did get a seat at the communal table, we sat for a good while without menus. We eventually ordered. Waited ages for our drinks. My tea sat for at least 10 mins at the counter. My boyfriend ordered a tall cappuccino. They brought short, so he sent that back. I got no milk with my tea so it continued getting cold and I couldn't pour it. Then finally the order arrived. All we ordered was croissants. They got that wrong two, as my boyfriend ordered two, but got one. But the worst thing of all is that the croissants that were beautiful when we saw them in the display had been butchered by slicing them in half and toasting them on the sandwich toaster! I mean, who the h*** does this?! They were destroyed, squashed, shapeless and crumbs all over the plate. We sent them straight back and told the manager this is NOT how you serve a beautiful pastry. You do not reheat it and you certainly don't butcher it. These people have absolutely no idea how to serve pastries and yet they call themselves a bakery. Shocking. We walked out after that. We certainly won't be back. The female manager was quite defensive which also didn't impress us. It is a great pity as this place has the potential to be great but the staff, from waiters to those in the kitchen, are not trained and the service is shocking.

I'd been wanting to try Knead for a while so popped in this morning for brunch. Tried the Eggs Bendict with Bacon. The poached eggs were done perfectly but the hollandaise sauce was too thin and the meal itself was average. Friends had the poached egg on mince as well as the poached egg on mushrooms with extra bacon (a tiny portion...ask for double if you're a bacon fan). They were both ok but again, nothing to rave about.

Highlights were the pain au chocolat as well as the Custard danish...both were delicious...some of the nicest pastries I've had in Joburg. The decor and ambience is also pleasant.

The rating would be a 2.5 but the pastries made it a 3. We'll be back..probably not for the breakfast, but to try some other items on the menu and definitely for the pastries!

We went to knead on the morning of a public holiday expecting to have a quick brekki before getting our free day started. Unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. The service was terrible, we had to basically tackle the staff to get any service at any point in time and waited well over an hour for our food. Really was disappointing. To wait that long for eggs and some extras really wasn't great. The food was fine but really dampened by their lack of, well pretty much zero communication with their customers. Hopefully they hire a few more staff or manage their days better.

I have now visited the new Knead 3 times and I have had some varying experiences. For one, the service is slow and my order has been messed up almost every time. On the other hand, the interior is beautiful and inviting and I just love sitting there. As for the food, the vegetarian burger is amazing and I have already had it twice. Their breads are incredible and I'd definitely buy for home. On the other hand, I tried their roast veg open sandwich and it was horrible, I barely touched it. I think this could really be an amazing spot if some attention was given to service and getting the kitchen to operate a bit better. But take that sandwich off the menu or fix it somehow, not good at all.

Went for dinner on Tuesday evening and had the most delicious pizza and salad. Definitely going back soon! The staff were also super friendly.

Breakfast with two friends after the Saturday park run. Ambience and setting very good and bustling with people. Food presentation good, but just very average in terms of portion size and taste. Would we come back again, possibly, but the verdict is still out.

Went through to the new Knead in Bryanston on Saturday for breakfast. Thinking we had missed the earlier Park Run crowd, we were given the park-run menu with no option to order from the normal menu, which was disappointing as I really just wanted a sandwich. I ended up ordering the creamy mushrooms on toast with a poached egg. The dish ended up coming with bacon on the plate, which i was subsequently charged for. The "toast" wasn't toasted at all and ended up being a soggy piece of rye bread after a few minutes. To drink I had a sugar-free coffee milkshake which was the highlight of the experience. I'm sure being new they will get in their stride and deliver fantastic food. Will definitely be back

I've been to Knead at the Riverside Shopping Centre twice this week (that's how much I enjoyed it). Their shop is gorgeous and the service, especially from their manager, was fantastic. They are very attentive. Be warned though, on Saturday mornings they have a park run rush from around 8:30. They seem to manage the hustle and bustle and offer a shorter menu during this time. Another wonderful thing about Knead is all day breakfast! Because who doesn't live eggs and bacon anytime of the day. Their baked goods looks amazing, I've had my eye on their brownies all week. Delicious strong coffee. Yummy food. Welcoming and attentive staff. Winner!

I love the Knead in Sandton, and when I saw a branch was opening in Bryanston I was excited. We went there for breakfast today. They were busy because of the parkrun but we only had to wait 5 mins for a table. On a Saturday they have a parkrun brunch menu because of the volume of people which is understandable. I had a chai sugar free milkshake, my husband had the coffee sugar free milkshake and my friend asked for the juice of the day. The waiter said the juice consisted of carrot, apple and ginger. When the juice arrived there was no carrot. The waiter also did not know which milkshake was coffee or chai. My husband and I both ordered the poached egg on toast with creamy mushrooms. My plate arrived with bacon and my husband's plate had no bacon. The menu says it should be served with toast but our bread was not toasted. I asked my my eggs soft to medium but my one egg was quite raw. Not a great first impression. When we got the bill we saw that they charged us for the bacon which we didn't ask for.

First trip to Knead anywhere in Joburg. Nice little cozy place. Good food. Friendly staff but service disappointing...or maybe it was because of the Parkrun rush. Breakfast was yummy and will come back soon. Give them a second chance 😉
