Review Gia's On Montrose - Sandton

I'll start with the witty menu, because of the pop culture references. Because they missed the opportunity to name the eggs Benedict (Cumberbatch) but if you're old enough you'll get the references to Jane Fonda etc. What a lovely setting for a light meal! We got a table and parasol outside amongst the manicured hedges and grapevines, but you can choose to eat inside the bright and airy cafe if that's more your style. Service is great, friendly and efficient. What really captured my eye was the plating and attention to detail of the food. I haven't seen flower shaped fried eggs anywhere else and the hollandaise sauce on my eggs Benedict was absolutely perfect, in texture and flavour. The atmosphere is definitely giving 'stay as long as you please' as there is a well stocked bookshelf, free WiFi and places for you to plug in your devices. If you're more interested in the nursery, you could spend a few good hours there too.

Gias is absolutely beautiful, various places to choose to sit with lovely views of the little garden areas, The food is delicious, there is a play area for the children and you can also have a browse through the nursery. The service was wonderful, Thank you so much.

The food was tasty and the coffee was so good it felt like I finished it in one slurp. Their homemade food is delicious and the surrounding nursery is incredibly beautiful. I had the burger and although it was very tasty, I found that the bun got very soggy and lost its structure very quickly. Other than that it was a good meal and I enjoyed the environment. Staff were also friendly.

Gias. What wonderful memory. Introducing Oscar - the gentle giant who ushered us in with such grace and attention. The setting: priceless! ...Creeping looming greens all around you. It even has a secret garden... if you look. My friend loved his late lunch but I forgot my doggy bag! Was too enraptured in conversation in this mesmerising setting that I forgot to eat and then it was closing time! LOLEST! I will definitely go again! (4 stars only because I didn't eat except for the side salad!)

Picked a random place for breakfast Awesome atmosphere within nursery. Quick service. Beautiful calm atmosphere. Seperate area for people with children. Will be back.

The food is outstanding. I had a Beef Burger with Fries. Very good service (kind and caring). Beautiful atmosphere wherever you choose to sit both inside and outside seating. The pricing in the restaurant is very reasonable and portion sizes are very big!

Peaceful setting in a lovely garden - A beautiful café to visit if you are looking to disconnect, especially during sunny winter days. Friendly service and nice, unpretentious, comfort food.
Nicolette Gardiner
An interesting venue set in a beautiful nursery. Good, varied menu and friendly service! An excellent accessible bathroom and good ramp access. The only problem I the cloakroom is that the back grab rail is set too high.

What a lovely place. Fantastic nursery leads to a brilliant restaurant in fantastic surroundings making one forget where they are. Staff are attentive and very accommodating. We decided today to visit at least once a month. Update 2023: for wheelchair users . A bit due to paving to get to restaurant but not insurmountable. nice disabled toilet. Food and everything else still very very nice.

Beautiful restaurant inside the nursery so if you are looking for a stunning outdoor venue this is the place! Yummy food and good service. There is a lovely play area for kiddies which is great and there are tables overlooking the play area so you can keep an eye on the children while they play.

Very chilled environment, a warm place to engage with nature. I love the variety of plant selection there. I also love the service I got from the waiter. Excellent👌

Lovely nursery where you amble through the isles when done with breakfast. Food was good. Coffee was very good. It's Lavazza. Lovely to sit outside and get some cool fresh air and warm sun at the same time.

Great burgers and such a pretty setting

I always look forward and love meeting up with my ex colleagues/friends/family here at Gias on Montrose it caters for everyone with beautiful environment nursery come restaurant the company is always great and we have some great memories here coming here in the past as not all of us are working together anymore. We catch up with everyone this has been our first get together in 2 years since covid some have left us during covid and moved out of Jhb. We always get great service thank you so much.

Tasty food. Large portions. Pleasant outdoor setting in a nursery.

This is one of my favourite spots.. it feels like home, it is beautiful and green and so serene - I love the setting. The food is such a let-down. They need to hire a proper chef who makes simple organic dishes that taste amazing. The food is basic really...having the breakfast right now and a 12 year old could make this...I think they have become complacent as an establishment and have not paid attention to the food. If this continues, I'm going to stop going to Gia's even though I love it.

Ordered the Mr Bean wrap with no feta. Feta was in the order and was sent back. Second order had feta on the edges. Can’t trust the kitchen to get it right. The manager did not address the issue until I went to him hours after the inside the as we were about to leave.

To which he asked me to come again and they will do a better job. Not a satisfactory response. I have no desire to go back and pay them to do a better job after such a bad experience.

Also the manager had a cloth dishcloth draped around his shoulder. He told me that it’s not standard to use a dishcloth, to which he replied that he used it for cleaning. It was hella disgusting with food all on it. Anyway according to HESSOP ( Hygiene standard for restaurants) there should be no dishcloths. Only disposable cloths to maintain health standards. So this manager is not demonstrating industry hygiene standard and the kitchen is in trustworthy.

Came out to celebrate a birthday and was very disappointed with the service and overall experience. Our table had 3 - 4 different waiters, 1 didn't know if penne Napolitano was vegetarian or not. He went to find out and never ever returned. Drinks took over 30 min to arrive. Food took over an hour and we had 2 kids with us and we ordered their food immediately when we arrived and still the food took an hour to arrive.
When the rest of our food eventually arrived the pasta had no flavour at all, not even salt. Another meal had toast and the toast was burnt, another meal had avocado and it was black inside, there is clearly no quality control or checks before the food arrives. The person whose birthday we came to celebrated got his food last... well after an hour. Menu says 45 min wait when busy, cafe didn't look that busy and food took well over an hour.
I always enjoy my time at this little gem in sandton suburbs.

Service 4 stars. It is usually efficient and friendly

Food 3.5 stars. It’s pretty simple options great for breakfast or lunch with something everyone in the family can enjoy.

Ambience 5 stars. Stunning location perfect for a Sunday family outing.

It has always been a problem to find a venue that welcomes children and provides a menu and atmosphere better than restaurant chains. Gia's provides a fantastic solution to this problem. The tables are in an established shrubbery far enough from one another to prevent rowdy little ones from disturbing other diners. The service is friendly and the food is excellent. Try one of their beef burgers they are infinitely better than those at expensive restaurants.
Gia’s is ok. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. I won’t be running back.

- nice garden atmosphere that’s lush and quiet
- food is basic - I ordered the mushroom, avo and tomato on health toast. The ingredients were fresh but no real seasoning or sauces used to make it memorable
- wait staff was easily on hand

We had a very quick breakfast here on a sunny Sunday morning. It’s set behind a nursery and is quiet and calm. They have 3 separate sections. An indoor restaurant , a covered area with a small outdoor kids play area for little kiddies and an outdoor garden seating area where you can’t see or hear the kids at all ;)

My kids ordered cookie dough milkshakes, horribly sweet, but they loved it. We asked for coffee, which came in Illy branded cups, which no grownup can get their fingers through! We asked for bigger cups for the second round and the coffee came in large glasses, which were much easier to manage.

My son chose the classic burger, we have never seen such a big patty! He declared it “awesome”.

My boyfriend thought the menu selection was too limited, we both ended up with the ham eggs Benedict. It was served luke warm rather than hot, but was good nonetheless, although I prefer my hollandaise with a bit more zing.

We were in and out in less than an hour. The service was quick and friendly and the food was served without delay.

I would go back with my mom and kids again, but my boyfriend was not a fan.

We have been to this delightful little garden restaurant a few times and have never been disappointed. The setting is gorgeous, in the gardens of the nursery. Service is very friendly, if a little slow at times.

I’ve had the eggs Benedict here - lovely, and a burger which was outstanding. The all day breakfast is also a winner.

This could be cool spot for an after work beer in summer!

Nice outdoor atmosphere. Friendly staff. Nice kids play area. Unfortunately, food was dry. Chicken burger and omelette both very dry and tasteless. I dont think it is worth the price you pay.
Great outdoors restaurant, that has a peaceful feel. Menu has good choices for breakfast / lunches. We had a really nice breakfast. Waiter staff are friendly.

Good place for a breakfast or brunch. The cafe is set in a lovely garden and the meal is best enjoyed on a warm summer’s day. The food was basic but fresh and hearty.
Craig
Food was fine, nice setting. Lots of staff hanging around despite mediocre service. Very expensive relatively speaking, a local beer is R27 - same price as HydePark southern sun!

A favoured spot of mine thanks to the lovely garden setting and proximity to home. Very disappointing experience for lunch this Sunday. The menu warns of up to a 45 minute wait during busy periods. However a 1 hour and 15 minute wait for 2 hamburgers seems a bit beyond the pale. My mom was looking forward to the delicious 100% beef burger she had enjoyed on a previous visit. After the long wait, despite appealing presentation, we were disappointed with pasty, mealy burger patties. On receiving the bill we were charged R25 more per burger as compared to the menu price. After querying and pointing out the discrepancy to the waitress, with menu in hand, she simply returned with a shrug to say "well that's the price on the machine." After asking to speak to the owner, another staff member,Tshaka, took the initiative, corrected the pricing and offered me a 5%discount. The owner came out at about this time and vaguely observed as Tshaka, helped me. She didn't seem interested in engaging me and finding out what the problem was. I approached her and politely shared my concerns only to be met with defensiveness. She told me that everyone arrived at once and they couldnt keep up...but at no stage did she bother to address any waiting customers to apprise them of the challenges. On asking about the price discrepancy she proceeded to explain how complicated restaurant pricing is and how difficult it is to match the menu to the system as prices change. If it weren't for Tshaka and the gorgeous setting, this would have been a 1 out of 5 rating.

I love the venue and sitting outside in a garden just next to a nursery and soaking up some sun. You're not out of the city but it feels tranquil.

We had brunch here. I found the food average. Service was okay, but maybe cos we were sitting outside away from everyone.
TRICIA
The place is peaceful and offers tranquility.. I loved it from the moment we went in.. The food is in large portions and the service is impeccable.. The menu is quite good too..definitely would go back

Came here for brunch. Awesome hidden gem along a busy south road. The breakfast was tasty and generous, decent cup of coffee as well. The garden setting/scenery is perfect for a brunch spot, we found it hard to leave so we Ordered some bubbly and orange juice and made our own Mimosas.

The service was excellent, friendly knowledgeable staff. Fantastic restaurant, I'd recommend it to a friend anytime.

This tea garden restaurant offers some very nice tables in the nursery garden, which create a relaxed atmosphere. Light menu options are available at a slightly steep price. If you take any of their "specials" not on the menu, you are likely to pay double the average meal price. Service is okay, no manager came to our table, and food was okay. Not very tasty, but average. Chicken wrap was dominantly tasting like chutney, although the menu makes it looks much tastier than it actually is. Calamari looks like curry in a strange green sauce, but does not taste like much. Something that is quite concerning is that their olive oil and balsamic vinegar are way past its sell by date. Not too impressed...

Perfect venue for a Saturday morning brunch in the sun and amongst the beautiful plants. The food is nothing spectacular but nice (slightly over priced) they have great wine on offer and just an all round pleasant experience. Please stock non-dairy alternatives for coffees and perhaps add one or two vegan items on the menu!

Being a big Eggs Benedict fan (sans the ham) it tends to be my usual choice for breakfast/brunch. I've had two versions at Gia's the eggs royale(with spinach) & the salmon option - both were amazingly delicious. I've only been here for breakfast/brunch - it's a wonderfully quaint spot with beautiful gardens and a well stocked nursery for those so inclined. Good service.

Definitely a gem in Sandton. Food is always amazing, tasty and fresh. I have dreams about the food as I live in Dubai and only get my Gia's kick every year if I am lucky! Service and staff is spectacular!

My new favourite breakfast spot! Hidden little gem on South Road and man I'm glad I found it!!! Portions are amazing and quiet surroundings! Will definitely be back

A lovely little spot in Sandton. Been here about three times - and have enjoyed it. The setting in the nursery is great - and they allow you to bring dogs which is a bonus!

The menu is basic coffee shop style food- made
Well and good value - and they make a really nice chicken mayo sandwich. Perhaps a more modern, updated menu will make this place even better.
Jürgen Roos
Excellent portion for a breakfast that filled the whole plate.

One of the most enjoyable breakfasts in a while as it was perfectly prepared and presented.

Gia's is located in a beautiful garden setting and makes for a perfect breakfast or lunch spot if you're looking for somewhere to eat al fresco. We had wraps and toasties, which were good but quite over priced for a basic toasted sandwhich. Ordered extra gherkins on the chicken mayo, and we were charged R22 for this addition! Not to mention, the gherkins in the sandwhich were ALL the gross ends, which was off putting. There also seems to be a large headcount of staff and yet service was slow.
Lesley Street
Beautiful location, the garden setting is peaceful and relaxing. The coffee is good, food is really good, the breakfast selection is also good. The service is very friendly but a little bit slow. The place is also pet friendly which is nice. The table are far away enough from one another that if there is a dog around it's won't be right on top of you is that's not your thing. I really like that all the tables feel like you're in your own little garden. Overall it's a nice place to grab a breakfast on the weekends.
Caroline O'Flaherty
Thier sign "We don't have wi-if talk to each other" captures exactly what this spot in the garden is all about. Their attention to detail does not go unnoticed with fresh rose petals in the bird baths. I had a pleasant morning just soaking in the peace. Their service is slow but you are warned of this on their menu so it's not a problem😄

This amazing spot off south road is a true gem.. The location and atmosphere is brilliant also the decor is just perfect for a quick meal that feels like you are in the middle of nowhere an oasis in the caos that is sandton.
negatives are simple... Starting with nearly non existent service although the staff are hanging around,
Manky refilled condiment bottles are a pet pieve but when they are as crusty they were they just put one off ones meal.
The coffe was way bellow average... Don't advertise that you are using premium brand coffee and under dose as much as they did.
The food made up for all the negatives....

Eggs benedict were way above average...
So all in all go enjoy a great spot and relaxation in a tranquil setting in the heart of sandton.

Just give yourself lots of time
Eve
Serene spot for a meal. You are literally surrounded by the nursery. Pets are welcome here .the food is basic but fresh. I went here for Brekkie, the food was tasty but basic. Eggs and bacon is eggs and bacon . I think here you go more for the surroundings than the food. The staff were friendly. The tables were wrought iron with plastic placemats. The best part was being able to walk through the garden shops and the nursery itself.

Lovely atmosphere for a warm and sunny spring day... The food was good not exceptional but i have eaten better. I had an open salmon sandwich it was pleasant... The banting chocolate cake was surprisingly light but wonderful with flavors of cinnamon, coconut and cocoa... The downside is the service... If you go, book in advance or you will end up waiting over an half an hour like i did... Once seated however i still had to ask to be attended to fifteens minutes in, then the food itself took almost another 40 minutes... Even then the food wasn't spectacular for the waiting time

Average food, had soggy beef wraps with the most appalling side salad. Pity as nice setting. Wish the kids play area was out front though.
Natalie Lazaris
I can't believe that I haven't been here before, apparently it's an establishment. Well better late than never. Happy days, enjoying brunch with my partner in the winter sun. Beautiful setting, lovely mixed menu and friendly staff. A wonderful experience and glad I tried it. Take a walk through the the nursery and stop at the garden shop, your definately going to find something.

We agreed to meet up here for lunch on Saturday as a result of the place being featured in the Zomato "By the fire" collection. It was set to be the coldest day so far this year in Jhb and our friends have a 3 month old baby who obviously needs some guaranteed warmth. We were very much looking forward to a languid lunch, catching up with great friends, by the fireside.

When we arrived the fire had been put out and the fireplace cleaned - and they were therefore unwilling to light it again. Which means we were unwilling to stay.

If there is no fire on Jhb's coldest day, the place surely should not feature in any collections referring to fireplaces.

A beautiful quiet spot in Joburg that isn't in a shopping center or overlooking a car park - for once!
A great place for breakfast, tea, lunch or just because. Food is reasonably priced and good value for money.
Grant & Sam
Friends invited us to join them for lunch here, and it does seem like quite the popular spot, sitting among the greenery of the nursery.
The bean wrap was pretty good; improved by the addition of some chilli. The salmon Benedict had decent poached eggs and hollandaise, but the English muffin was dry and hard. The friends ordered the chicken salad and burger, and both proclaimed them good. Service was fine. Wish the tables were a tad bigger, as 4 around it when we got the food was a bit cramped; will go for a more spread out option in future.

Gia's is a perfect combo of tranquil and delicious and has become a regular weekend spot for me, even though I have to drive a bit to get there! The staff are friendly and food is really homely, which is a big plus.

I'd never heard of this restaurant and when I was invited to a breakfast there I was pleasantly surprised. I always love outdoors seating and Gia's is tucked away in a nursery. Breakfast was nice although admittedly nothing too spectacular. It's a lovely place for a quick coffee with friends!

It's never easy to bid a friend farewell, however our spirits were lifted as stories and laughter were shared under the shade of trees in this surprising oasis, a stunning peaceful area in our everyday lives. This is certainly a spot where you can escape life's rigors. I loved the old school hamburgers that would satisfy any hunger. Me being mad about beans ordered the quirky "Mr Bean" wrap. This too was stuffed to the max, just added some fresh chili to round this dish off. The "Spring Chicken" was beautifully presented. Giving into our sweet tooth we shared the chocolate Banting cake as well as freshly made carrot cake. Both recommended though I vote the carrot cake won by a "thin"'margin. A lovely unpretentious brekkie or lunch spot.

Terrible food and bad service! Avoid at all costs!!!
Went this past Sunday for my sister's birthday lunch, food took over 40 minutes to arrive. When it did finally arrive, it came in dribs and drabs. My son's burger patty was charred. When we asked for it to be taken back, we were met with death stares and annoyed looks.
My sister's lunch came...a lamb curry which was actually a lamb stew. Do these people know what a curry is?
My steak which I asked to be medium was well done and tough.
Overall, the food lacked flavour.
This should have been the last straw but because of the lovely surroundings, we decided to stay and have coffee and cake, after being assured that the baked cheesecake was AMAZING. We decided to share the cheesecake and both of us could not even get through half of it. The cheesecake was old and tasted like it had been in the fridge forever.
I was so disappointed!! I will definitely not be going back to Gia's. Such a pity because I live down the road and attend Rivers Church which is close by...this would have been a lovely spot to frequent.

Went for breakfast after discovering it on Zomato.
It was absolutely lovely.
I had the egg Benedict with salmon.
My egg was done perfectly. The service was perfect and the location was the cherry on top.
We sat outside in the garden and the mood was just ideal.
Our waiter Lawrence was superb.
I will be back there until I have tried everything on the menu :)

Gia's is one of my favourite places in Sandton! A beautiful garden cafe situated within the nursery, with lovely shaded tables amongst nature. The service here is flawless, with the waiters coming to check on you and making sure you are 100% happy (but not being overly annoying!). We ordered the grilled salmon on veg stirfry, as well as the pen faced salmon sandwich. These are probably the best salmon dishes I've had in Johannesburg- flavourful, well presented, and with the grilled salmon cooked to perfection (not overdone!). The sauce with the grilled salmon was also to die for.

Prices are reasonable, and completely worth it for a great morning out!

We dropped the poor doggies off at the vet very early so we ended up here nice and early for breakfast.
Hard to grasp that right in the middle of the South Road chaos there is a bit of rural heaven. There are large beautiful shady trees surrounding the restaurant as well as a very detailed nursery filled with stunning plants.
We were the only patrons and therefore had the pick of the tables. We ended up outside on the patio next to the kiddies play area. There was no pram access but a waiter helped carry the pram down the stairs.
The service was prompt and friendly. Nothing special but satisfactory.
I had the eggs Benedict with Ham and my wife the John Gotti breakfast.
While waiting for our food my daughter went to the play area. It was ok but the ground surrounding the play items was hard sand and brick. Better hope your child doesn't fall cause they gonna scrap knees and elbows badly.
Our food arrived in a perfect time frame without undue waiting.
My poached eggs were absolutely perfect and my breakfast was delicious. I really really enjoyed it. A great balance between the eggs, ham and sauce. Very yummy.
My wife thoroughly enjoyed her breakfast. Her eggs were also perfect and the bacon a little crispy and delicious.
Overall we had a peaceful and very pleasant meal and experience. We will definitely come back.

Found this place close to home and what a treat it was ! I tried the Southern Belle Chicken wrap, which was simply delicious . The crumbed chicken went so well with the Moroccan sauce , and the coriander really stood out in this dish . ( I absolutely love coriander so no wonder this made it onto the hit list !) . Can't go wrong with this flavoursome herb ! It's a lovely tea garden to try out and I like their philosophy of no fast food :) It has a lovely setting with tables and chairs on the verandah and in the garden . Sitting in the garden is the perfect treat especially when you are living in a fast paced city surrounded by malls ! If you want a nice " get away meeting place " , you should give this place a try .

On another note ... I tried the Desperate Housewives croissant ... and can I just say ... That fig and cheese combo is holey moley awesome !! Plenty cashew nuts accompany the dish and all in all , a wholesome feel good dish . 👌

Great outdoor atmosphere for the spring/ autumn months and great spot for coffee and a bite to eat. The food is very average and the salmon breakfast not that great - think small sliver of over cooked salmon. Service is attentive and the setting is family friendly with a jungle gym at the back. The cafe is set inside the nursery which is a nice add for any horticulture lovers.
Rebone Mofulatsi
Was here yesterday for breakfast with colleagues. Such a pretty place, practically hidden from plain sight; a secret garden of sorts.
All around you are trees and flowers and their beautiful scents. Great for sunny, warm days. Would be good to see how they manage things in winter.

I had a great tasting breakfast - grilled tomatoes, (divine) mushrooms, health bread, bacon and a beef sausage (I don't eat eggs).
They could have done a bit more to make the presentation better - my meal didn't look too appetising when it arrived (see pics).

They might struggle a bit with multi tasking. They forgot a few drinks orders that were taken with the meal orders... like they can either do one or the other at a time. But the waiters were generally very friendly.

Gia's is one of my favorites for a summers day breakfast or lunch (or maybe brunch?). It is set in the gardens of the Montrose Nursery on South Road and is a great little hide-away from the busy streets of Sandton. The food is a mix of cafe classics such as salads, wraps and burgers - all of which are very tasty. The service is good, just as you might expect from a cafe and they are also reasonably priced. If you are looking for a quiet spot to grab a meal, this is a great place to do. It can get pretty busy on weekends so try go a bit earlier.
Marika_Mav
A quick lunch in their lovely garden! The food is good and the prices are fair. Service could be better! The food is always fresh and tasty. Th setting is so relaxing! Breakfast is good too.
Magda Oosthuysen
We went to Gia's for Sunday breakfast as it always looked so peaceful to sit in the middle of a beautiful garden in the middle of crazy Sandton. The place gets quite busy quickly but luckily we found a table. The setting is beautiful and peaceful and the tables are far enough apart that noise is not an issue. We had the Eggs Benedict and the Danny de Vito breakfast with fresh fruit juice and cappuccino's. Service was reasonable, had to look for the waiter a couple of times. The food was really good and tasted great. Overall a good experience, will definitely come again and then try and sit under the trees and not in the patio just to get even more if a garden dining experience. Went there for lunch and managed to sit in the garden - absolutely peaceful and stunning, and makes you forget you are in the middle of a city. Ordered the Feta, bacon and Abu tramezinni. Service was good. Food was good, could have used less feta or alternatively spread it more even as it has quite a salty and overpowering taste.
Simon Trollope
Awesome spot in the nursery surrounded by an amazing garden! Was a beautiful day when we went so it made it fantastic sitting outside under the trees. The coffee was average, think they need a new bean. I had the Nordic breakfast which was salmon and the regulars, which was very nice. There is a kids jungle gym area as well outside, which caters for family option. Overall nice surroundings, but food and coffee were average. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. if they upgrade their coffee, I would probably visit again!
No Time To Waste
Tucked away in what feels like a secret garden, this is a cute café where you can chill and enjoy the greenery.

Buy some greens and take a nice walk around. Then settle down for a cup of Joe with light and classic breakfast. I must warn you though. Their cappuccino cups are too "cute" You probably need two cups to get a daily fix of caffeine, but it's good.
A lovely restaurant hidden inside the Montrose Nursery. A place to go for peace and quiet. Child and animal friendly. Good service and friendly waiters.
Some of the tables in the outside area are strategically positioned so it feels like no one else is around, amongst beautiful trees and wind chimes.
I ordered a rump steak which came perfectly cooked, accompanied with crispy, delicious potatoes, a generous portion of creamed spinach and butternut, and the lovely flower was a pretty touch.
My BF ordered the 'La Med' Steak Wrap, filled with steak strips, avo, feta and caramelised onion sauce, accompanied with crispy chips. It looked a bit messy when it arrived. He said it had a bit too much feta for him but was tasty.
A restaurant definitely worth the visit. Be sure to take a walk around the restaurant as the decor has great plaques with fun sayings, an interesting read.

Great outdoor setting in a nursery garden. Service was slow but atleast the setting is tranquil and pleasant. The food was good. Nice place for if you want an outdoor setting for lunch.
Nicola
Gia's is such a charming coffee shop located in the nursery. One can tell that their bistro food, such as burgers, wraps etc, is delicious and their main focus and speciality, while more traditional foods and main meals are better ordered elsewhere as they're not quite there yet. The staff is attentive and quick. Have the baked cheesecake!

Came to Gia's by chance a really nice hidden gem. Setting is great with a nice outside area. Coffee is great. Nice menu. Will defiantly be back.
A hidden gem, and an enjoyable experience every time. The tranquil, garden setting, lends itself to an uncomplicated, fresh menu, with just enough variety. Today, I had the French toast with bacon and syrup, and filter coffee - a really nice brunch combo. The other half had a grilled chicken salad (still being on diet), a generous portion, so half of it was brought home. Service was on point. The nursery is well stocked too and the gardeners are very knowledgeable, so we left with several trays of flowers, potting soil, etc.
Melissa Claassens
Lovely restaurant with indoor & outdoor seating. Nice cappuchino in wintertime by the fireplace, on the other hand, a chicken wrap outside under the summer sun. Lovely nursery and garden centre :)
Clint Van Heerden
Came for a light breakfast in Sunday morning. Service was efficient, albeit bland and lacking personality. Hot chocolate was decadent and the breakfast croissant I had was delicious: fresh ingredients, posh presentation and homey feel are what stood out for me. You can't go wrong here.

"Escape the cliche of the pavement cafe" - a motto that one cannot help but notice and it made me curious.. curious enough to pop in for breakfast this morning with friends. Gia's in Montrose Nursery is certainly unique in terms of its location, which makes for a perfect haven from the concrete jungle that I call Johannesburg. It is a hidden and beautiful oasis from the hustle and bustle of the day, family friendly, family run and seems to specialise in all things comfort, complete with a fireplace and blankets for a cold wintry day.

I will add our breakfast offerings shortly (Nordic breakfast, Eggs Benedict with salmon..) which were all presented beautifully and I plan to return soon to sample their lunches with my proper camera and lenses in hand.

*Recommendation: I have noticed that Gia's is only open during the day, but is well deserving of its 'Kid Friendly' title and if you aren't in a rush, this is a lovely spot for a lazy, casual breakfast.

Love the quirky sayings and the garden feel in sandton. Food is always great. Tasty light meals and good atmosphere. Always a welcome to the concrete jhb jungle

Lovely venue. Food was excellent. The staff were very friendly. Ideal if you have kids for them to play in the garden which provides opportune time to engage with the other moms and dads...also perfect for a birthday. Best in the summer time

I've mainly been here for breakfasts and it's a lovely spot for breakfast. The food is organic and delicious, set in the nursery, outside in the sunshine - it's an ideal setting for a relaxed catch-up with friends.

In the back of a Nursery, it has a very open and peaceful ambiance. Menu has some clever names for different dishes and combinations and will definitely not leave any not ordering something. Prices are fair. Enjoyable experience for a breakfast and change of scenery.

We were invited for breakfast on Sunday - which turned out to be a very warm Autumn morning and was delicious to sit in the sunshine and catch up with friends. I had an omelette with mince, my hubby had the chocolate croissant with extra chocolate on top !! Friends had various eggs and bacon choices. All rated as good, portions were certainly sufficient. Friendly service. It was a lovely spot & worth going for a change from the malls or pavements overlooking parking lots !

I love this place for the setting. There coffee is good and their breakfast options (and quality) is great. Service could be better, but the setting is just so cool, and in the middle of Sandton!

I could go on and on about how pathetic the service was but the overall message is this... Don't ever come here!!! Ruined mothers day for our families! 1 and a half hours for breakfast, no coffee, tea or any hot drinks available! Will never come here again and please don't put yourself through the pain of coming here.

Beautiful spot. Very disappointing service with major do-I-really-have-to-help-you attitude. Creative menu to please all and good food. Great coffee.
Nestled within the nursery just off south road this little restaurant is very kid friendly and offers a good variety of tea and cake options. I have visited this place numerous times and have also enjoyed some simple toasted sandwiches with fries. The menu items are well priced. I do however find the kitchen a bit slow. Enjoy a relaxing time in the garden and a cup of tea.

Lovely garden environment to have a peaceful lunch in. Central location. Service and food reasonable. Best chosen on a whim for a random boozy lunch out.

Great setting in nursery. Perfect for kids and very relaxing. Food is good with helpful staff and nice garden setting in the heart of Sandton.

Lovely setting amidst a nursery with a bit of peace and quiet in Sandton. Generous portions. I had a chicken salad which wasn't shy with the chicken, and my brother had a burger which was delicious. They are also open on Thursday and Friday evenings which I imagine would be nice. Service wasn't very attentive but it will do.

Nice setting... but overall, this joint was just okay...

I ordered the Southern Belle chicken wrap. The first bite was really tasty, tender chicken and coriander. But the more bites I took, it just got very cheesy and the sweet sauce they used just got overwhelming.

Service was ok...

The burgers looked pretty good, maybe I'll be back. We'll see.

Chilled relaxed venue with great service and fresh tasty food.

Love the burgers and salads. My wife will usually have a wrap and always compliments them.

Nice to take kids with even though play area is a little cold and dreary tucked away in the corner.

Great for a quick lunch on the weekend if you can find a table as it is always packed.

A nice place to visit if the weather is pleasant as it is nestled in a nursery. The ambience is very relaxed and is suitable for a breakfast or lunch out with friends or with the family (kiddies play area available). The menu is quite extensive and caters for various dietary requirements. We tried a variety of menu options from the wraps to the salads. These got suitable reviews from my friends. My calamari was a bit over cooked but had good flavour...I think it was quite pricey for r120. The service needs to improve as the food took extremely long to prepare, the waiters were slow and the manager had an attitude problem!

Been to Gia's a couple of times while going to the nursery. Nice place for a relaxed bite. Service could be improved on. Will return if in the area.

This little coffee shop is lovely. Really nice to kind of escape the hustle and bustle of surrounding Sandton. It's in the middle of a nursery so offers lovely scenery for all of those enjoying breakfast, lunch or just a cup of coffee. The food is lovely as is the staff and the overall experience. definitely recommended - I took my grandad who was visiting and he thoroughly enjoyed himself and the peace and quiet.

I've only been to Gia's once but wow I loved it there is a small playground area just outside the indoor seating area and there is indoor seating too they can make some eggs now that is for sure but the service was disappointing and all we ordered was toast and eggs but there is a beautiful vibe and feel to Gia's it is situated in the middle of a nursery and I would definitely recommend Gia's to parents with small children

Gia's is in the middle of a garden centre, which makes it a lush and green retreat from city life. My main praise for Gia's, however, is its children's play area. Definitely kid-friendly, Gia's outdoor tables look directly onto a medium-sized sandy playground with climbing equipment and ride-on structures. Thus, I could enjoy the three breakfasts I've eaten there while keeping a good eye on my son.

The breakfasts themselves were great: I had espresso, eggs and salmon and was very pleased. But I would say that the food was so delicious that it didn't draw attention to itself, if that makes sense. I remember my experience at Gia's more than what was on the plate. That experience was: pleasant, relaxed, and stretched-out (on one occasion we stayed for more than 3 hours, racking up a massive coffee bill after the food!).

The fact that I felt so comfortable there despite toddler-wrangling means a lot. I'd recommend it to parents or grandparents. Just be aware that on Saturday and Sunday mornings there is strong competition for those special playground tables!

This venue has a unique ambience in the middle of Sandton you feel like you in the countryside. Service was excellent, food was good too. Definitely worth a visit.
