I had a fantastic birthday celebration at San Deck bar and restaurant with my family and friends. The highlight of our evening was the delicious meat platter we ordered. The variety and quality of meats were exceptional, and everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed it. The ambiance was great, the staff was friendly and attentive, making our dining experience memorable. One of the standout features of this place is the cozy fireplace, adding to the overall warmth and charm of the venue. Additionally, the restaurant boasts a balcony with a breathtaking view of the city skyline, enhancing the dining experience further. I highly recommend San Deck for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience with excellent food, friendly service, and a fantastic view of the Sandton city.

The best place to celebrate an event, eat, and sleep, is a very neat and safe place. The service is amazing, and the food starts at an affordable price. I love the view from the inside out .

Elegant, classy with a dash of fun! That's how i would describe San Deck. Perfect for fine dinning in the warm summer evenings as well as the cold winters. Perfect for sun bathing in their private pool area and definitely Perfect for cocktail parties with friends overlooking the amazing view🙃 the bar snacks go well with almost every drink, the menu caters for almost everyone and the chef's always Perfect every meal. The ambience is one that will leave you wanting to be in the concrete jungle just a bit longer! Rated one of the top restaurants in Sandton city because it truly is one of the finest‼️

This was our first time at the San Deck and the food, drinks and ambiance were all good. The Pasta Alfredo was light and not overdone with cream as some Alfredo can be. My husband's Pepperdew Chicken Pasta was also yummy. Overall, the service was great and we can't wait to return.

Enjoyed a Friday night out with friends. I had grilled chicken with beans, fried bread, and spinach. Food taste fresh and flavourful, service was excellent.

We had our year end function there. They food was wonderful. Service was fantastic and drinks even better. It started raining and the waitress Portia immediately moved us inside to another table. Will be back again and highly recommend.

Great place. one thing I didn't like is that the waiters are always coming at you like you have to spend exorbitant amount! Like if having a drink, a drink it is!!!! Also attend to your customers. Last time I was there,afternoon, I was at the bar and no one to help for a good 30mn! Nice place but the service can sometimes be poor. Remember it's not the building,it's how you make people feel. Also your waiters cool do with a smile

Had a lovely dinner with my colleagues at the restaurant. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome and speedily attended to our orders. The food is very delicious and comes in large portions, the desert options are just as flavorful and are made with quite a unique spin to regular desserts. I would highly recommend the restaurant for anyone interested in a fine dining experience.

Great rooftop bar with amazing views of sandton. Affordable prices for food and alcoholic beverages. Such a wide variety of menu with amazing vibe. I recommend to visit it at-least once.

Cocktails were great! Little whiskey sour little wine action. Views and vibez are spectacular. They have these lavender flowers full of bees. Beautiful!

Always a vibe. Okay food but no one is really there for the food are we now, were there for thr vibe and the views. Good service. Beautiful views all around. Balcony is very therapeutic & the perfect place for the perfect picture. Always a good experience. Go to place for chill as, dates, meet up etc highly recommend.

The mothers day 3 course meal was fantastic and the gift they gave to the mothers was so impressive very enjoyable indeed. The Salmon dish was very bland and needs some work but the rest of the food was fantastic.

The value in this restaurant lies in its amazing ambience and the view it boasts. It has a modern chic feel with fire pits in the evening that give it an upmarket feel.<br/>The food is good although expensive. The desserts are the real standout. They are delicious and absolutely beautifully presented.<br/>San Dec has enormous potential to be outstanding. However, the service has been horrendous on every occasion (we have been at least 4 times). On our most recent visit, it took an hour to receive a starter. It took half an hour to receive the bill! The extremely long waiting times make other high end restaurants a much better option.

We went to the San Deck and unfortunately it started raining when we got there so we had to settle for the indoor seating. The place is quite busy and very vibrant. I wouldn’t recommend for a date but definitely sun downers with friends. The food could definitely be better. It was mediocre at best.

I’m an absolute sucker for a rooftop bar! This is by far one of the best in Jbg, and has a lovely ambiance & chilled after work mature crowd mid week. <br/><br/>Service however is absolutely shocking! I’d experienced this a few times and overlooked it for the other pluses. On my last visit, it took me 12 minutes to get a menu after which only one was brought for a group of three. It was fairly quiet (Sunday lunch time), so not sure what the excuse is. You are made to beg for service ALL the time, and I was advised by a regular to pre-tip to ensure your allocated waiter is attentive. Such a pity as it ticks major boxes.

I was really excited to visit San Deck - after seeing all the amazing photos of the food and the ambience (also despite reading the bad reviews about the service - I thought to myself - how bad can it really be?). The food was really good - I can’t fault the place on this. However, the service was not great at all. We waited over 45 mins to get drinks (which was shocking - because these were two quarter-full glasses), over an hour to get mains, another 30 mins to get dessert MENUS (not even the dessert, the MENUS) and the dessert finally came close to an hour after ordering. And to add to this, the staff serving us were very unfriendly (really unexpected for what is seemingly a high-end restaurant). Our waiter practically threw our plates in front of us and couldn’t spare the generosity of a single smile. All this whilst we watched the couple next to us get their food in record-time and receive a much friendlier service by the same waiter (for obvious reasons). Despite the food being good, this is offset by the terrible service. This was my first and last time at this place :)

Heads up: the roof top is open to the public and gets really full. Get there on time to secure a table.<br/><br/>Food: oysters, beef sliders, potato wedges, ribs and wings. The food was honestly amazing, but the wait time is exhausting. <br/><br/>Drinks: cocktails and wine. I actually regret ordering cocktails. The wait time was quite long for drinks. My second drink, a Gin and Elder flower cocktail was terrible. Over-ginned(if that's a word). It tasted like a whole bottle of gin and barely any elder flower. I think as the night progressed, the bartender got exhausted and overwhelmed with the orders.<br/><br/>Service: our waiter was friendly, but overwhelmed as he had multiple tables to attend to. I felt as though the place was short-staffed for the outside area, which is open to everyone. However, we all appreciated his efforts in taking care of us and tipped him well. The host, a lady who controls access to the roof top setting was not friendly at all. She just seemed annoyed and difficult every time we asked questions. <br/><br/>Entertainment: the roof top setting is amazing and worth it. The DJ's set was a mix smooth afro-soul during the day and deep house as the night progressed. I loved that it we could enjoy music and still have conversation without screaming at each other. When night hit, the lights came on as well as heaters. Stunning ambiance and a perfect place to take amazing pictures!

The service was horrible, particularly to people of color. Absolutely appalling. I would not recommend.

The cocktails were delicious and the service was good. The only negative was that we were treated disrespectfully by other guests and the waiter did not do anything about it, but that is not the restaurants fault.

More of a place to have sun downers. Great view and drinks menu. However the food is overpriced for what you get and the staff were quite rude, service also takes long.

The service is absolutely terrible. The waiters are completely not bothered. I have been at this restaurant 3 times to many. I won't be back.

My girlfriend took me last week for birthday sundowners. The inside bar area is very elegant and the roof top area is very vibey with a great view of the sunset and good music to listen to. The service was the issue in my experience. When we asked the hostess to inform us if seats outside became available, she told us to "just walk outside and check every 10 minutes or so, if you want to sit outside". Not the usual response you'd expect from a hostess at a 4 star hotel. Our waiter wasn't much better. However, he did manage to find us a space outside. The gin cocktail that my girlfriend had was really nice and my draught beer was cold. The atmosphere was delightful and we had a good afternoon.

Great place to unwind on a Sunday. Chilled vibe. However, they didn't have enough umbrella's outside so we had to sit inside for a while. Other than that, I enjoyed their food and our waiter was very friendly and kept checking on us.

The service has really declined. Yesterday we went for dinner, the food was good but the service was disappointing and ruined the experience. Our waiter kept going missing and the other waiters were unwilling to assist us in his absence. The one lady waitress even shoed us away , putting her hand up and telling us to wait . When we finally asked fro the bill a manager on duty asked if there was anything he could do to make us happy after rtes bad service received, we just wanted to leave and declined so he said that he would ensure that our next visit will be better (lets see if we will be back :-( )

Amazing view! Great drinks! Good Vibes! Nice fire pits for cold evenings. Their Gin cocktails are awesome. A bit pricy but definitely an outing worth budgeting for.

Waiter unwilling to serve us we had to ask 3 times before someone else was prepared to take our order - our money the same color as the next guys ????

This is a customer experience rating not related to the food. Went there yesterday after work for a quick drink with friends as we wanted somewhere with a nice view. However, we were treated like crap by the waiters. They didn’t want to get us a place to sit, when we found our own place to sit they didn’t want to add a chair (blatantly ignore us) despite the ton of available chairs. However, Felicity (will not forget her friendly face) made the greatest effort for us despite it not being her section to host. We ended up walking out without getting anything because the waiter was dismissive and he never came back to get our order.

Great for a sunset, right at the heart of Sandton. Unplug, order a drink and enjoy it come to life. The service is... good at times. They don't go wrong with the drinks though.<br/>

The place and ambience is absolutely stunning however sometimes it does become tedious waiting for waiters and food . It’s also quite difficult to see your waiter regularly depending which side of the deck you are on. The food is relatively good but I would expect more.

I’m a regular here. I love the chilled atmosphere, the amazing staff and the extensive wine and champagne menu. The food is good, and a plus is you can watch the sunset and once it’s a little chilly grab a bean bag chair and sit around the bond fire!

The worst service in Sandton. People only come back for the atmosphere. All of the staff are unhappy and you will wait 20 min for a drink. I actually left after 40 min because I couldn't get waited on.

The San Bar at the Sandton Sun Hotel is lovely vibey place to celebrate special occasions or casual dinners. When it comes to good food you expect high quality meals at any restaurant in the Sandton area. Pity this didn't live up to my expectations. Browsing over the menu.. The gourmet lamb burger caught my eye. Sadly I was bitterly disappointed. Whilst it had lovely toppings fried egg, cheese, caramelised onions, Avo etc.. The burger which I expected to be minced was a horrific piece of processed meat that look like a piece of lard ! Tough and definitely not palatable. On a positive note.. my kids and my spouse enjoyed the chicken ciabbatta & wrap which was well prepared and tasty. The fries were great too ! <br/>I've read about the poor service at The.San, but I must admit our waitress was attentive and pleasant with good service. If you deciding to try out The San Bar & restaurant..I strongly recommend you stick to the chicken options to avoid disappointment.<br/><br/>Update ****<br/><br/>Went on 23 dec '18 <br/>Waited like 10-15 to be seated despite waiters lumming around , no one assisted us. My first experience was terrible and i thought it was maybe a bad day. But i went there two more times and it was still the same: extremely low service, the food was so bad and the lady at the entrance was rude. <br/>Nice view and good surroundings though

We were two on the outside deck today for lunch, arrived at 1230. We had a main course each, a beer and we shared a dessert. The food was ok but totally not up to the hefty price tag. The chocolate torte in particular was a disappointment as it wasn't a chocolate torte at all, more of a cake. The service was ok, a bit over-attentive until the waiter told us he had to go and eat and another waiter would serve us the dessert. <br/>It's a lovely setting but the dessert was very slow in coming despite the restaurant being almost empty (due to the time of year).

I’m a big fan of the San bar...they offer a lovely outdoor setting with gorgeous views of Sandton. I went on a Saturday night just for drinks. They have an adequate drinks menu. The vibe outside is awesome in summer.

The view is stunning and the waiters are absurdly friendly but the hostess is beyond rude. She looked at us as if we were trash and as if we weren’t going to pay. Everything she did was if she was doing us an extremely large favor and completely ruined our mood. <br/>The cocktails are good though but I won’t be back simply because of the rudeness of the hostess.

For Johannesburg, pretty decent view on a sunny day. Perfect for sunset drinks with a couple of friends or family.<br/>The service could have been better, we were given a table and forgotten there until we eventually asked for help after watching everyone else get served.<br/>Pricing.... Pretty pricey, for 3 drinks, 2 of which were cocktails,the bill came to over R300. The cocktails, average.<br/>All in all, ambience was great but that's pretty much it.

The staff is good, though processing orders take forever. The menu is limited and the food not at all great. I cant quite put my finger on what the problem is but with a venue this perfect you really would expect a high-flying experience. Alas...

I often wonder why we bother to come back! The service is always shoddy! Today we got turned away because all their tables were reserved, on further enquiry we discovered some where reserved for 6pm.... When they were turning us away at 2pm.<br/>After 10 min of searching for the wine we ordered they announced that they didn't have it and offered 2 alternatives which were both R200 more.<br/>If it wasn't for how gorgeous the sun is on the deck in the afternoon....

Great atmosphere! Foods very delicate and fresh. I had the duck and pear for starters, lamb shank for mains which were both very delicious! Then had chai cheese cake for dessert which I didn't like. It tasted more like jelly than cheese cake with no chai.

Great hangout spot for after work drinks on a Friday night. It was very busy when I went there but luckily there was a table available. <br/>Order a few nibbles from the light menu, delicious and fresh. Prices are a bit steep but it's worth the experience.<br/>Service from our waiter was good. He was very entertaining, just can't recall his name.

This is a watering hole for something classy, comfortable and with a lovely sun set for an afternoon/evening outdoors. Beautiful seating area and massive fire place alongside a circlular pool area. Great for a couple or even to host a few guests for drinks - I wasn't totally thrilled about the snacks but great spot for sun downers!

Arranged to have my 30th here. Had an excellent experience. I had booked platters and wine. All my guests had complements for the food and service.

Visited San Deck not too long ago for dinner and drinks. We got there around 7.30, sat on the deck and we're given a bar table with no lighting (they had run out of working small electric lights for the table) so it was dark. We had to use our phones to look at the menu... the cocktail menu didn't look too enticing and the prices weren't too encouraging either so stuck to my usual gin and tonic. Requested the short rib for dinner but they were out, so I settled for the rib eye. It was well cooked but given that it is placed on a vegetable purée and topped with a sauce, it was covered and drenched with very little texture. Let the meat shine San Deck! Meals averaged R300 so really expected better. The deck is beautiful eh exquisite decor and would definitely come back for drinks at sunset.

If you looking for great roof top vibes than this is definitely the place to be, get a 180 degree view of the best part of Sandton, while sitting next to gas fires and popping a nice bottle of wine/champagne then the San Bar is definitely the place you looking for.

First I'd just like to comment on how impeccable their taste in our door decor and landscaping is. It's not often that an out door bar is so well maintained. Very impressive. <br/>Had such a lovely evening here. For 20+ people our server was a champion he was so accommodating when it came to paying the bill and adding it all up. Although the service was a bit slow (due to the busy-ness of the bar) he kept on top of all of our orders and we were all highly satisfied! <br/>Would definitely recommend the San deck as a must do for sundowners!

Perfect place for sundowners! The view is stunning and the atmosphere is very vibey yet relaxing. Drinks are on the pricey side and service is sometimes frustratingly slow ..... but that view !!!!

Have had a few work functions here. Quite a pretty deck. Very cool view of Sandton. Good place to chill for casual work drinks. The platters we usual have here have a lot of variety. Also love the fried biltong.

We were just here for sundowners.We couldn't make a reservation if we didn't plan on eating, or if we weren't a party of 10, so we had to sit on half comfortable barstools in the sun.<br/>The service wasn't bad, but at times we had to search for our waiter.<br/>The drinks were great, but the cocktail menu didn't have a very wide variety.<br/>Unfortunately the high rise buildings around the San Deck block any form of the view that there once was.<br/>What we did enjoy was the live music. Really set a great mood for drinks. <br/>San Bar gets a fist bump from Two Tasty Tummies.

Good day<br/><br/>We went to the san bar on Saturday, the food in my opinion was good m,It was not wow what am i eating good. The cocktails were over priced forsure not worth the money,but you are at a 5 start hotel. Where i feel they manly focus on international guest. All and all a great night good laughs and a great mood and vibe about the place. I would rather spend that type of money else where tho.

I visited for a friend's birthday this past Saturday. The service is SO BAD! And I see other reviews feel that way too... It's slow and unproductive. I asked for a cocktail menu, I was brought the Ciroc menu, so we ordered those, but I actually wanted their own cocktail menu, which I had to go and fetch from the front of house. <br/>Their prices are incredibly expensive. R90 for a cocktail that really isn't special in any way, is a bit much for me. They should look into Making their cocktails with more imagination. They are too similar to one another.<br/>With bad service and inflated prices, all this place has going for them is the location.

It's always a good time! :) drinks, food and catch ups have never been better. Unless you're on the Deck in Winter. BUT- The service is extremely slow.

This has always been one of my favourite places to go to and share with friends especially those from out of town, however last night's visit was not so memorable. We were forced to place our orders at the bar because it was already 11pm and apparently the last round. At 1pm the bar was still open and drinks were still being served. I found that rude and unprofessional. Nevertheless still remains a fav. Hoping that the service doesn't ruin it going forward.

The San Bar is a beautiful rooftop restaurant/bar in the heart of Sandton. You could not ask for a better location for an afternoon lunch or some sundowners. I've only been here for drinks and was really impressed, and would definitely be heading back soon! Brenna Weaver

Relaxing and sophisticated. They didn't have our wine choice but we're very accommodating with a second... great venue with good service. Christiaan Strydom and I had a lovely afternoon.

The location of the San Bar is amazing; probably its best feature. We were just there for drinks so we ordered wine and some of their cheese platters. Cheeses were varied and nicely presented. Can get quite busy there and also noisy, so not the best choice if you wanted a quieter place for drinks.

As if the relaxing holiday feel one gets from sitting on the beautiful deck isn't enough to lure you in, the food is exceptional too. The service is inviting. The whole experience is a must. I ate the bunny chow which was really tasty and served beautifully.

This popular lounge bar is located in the luxury Sandton Sun Hotel. An iconic 5 star property synonymous with class and sophistication, the space is located in the impressive atrium, spanning over 10 floors. <br/><br/>Aside from the extensive drinks menu, there is an all day a la carte food selection available too. We had some sandwiches, which were huge and quite tasty. Be prepared as their wine prices are quite steep, but they have a good selection. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is laid back and service tends to be efficient.

It wasn't a good experience at all. Besides for the beautiful decor, I would've loved to have left asap if it wasn't for a friends birthday. The food was dry and unappealing, the service was super slow and just to top off the bad evening I got food poisoning.<br/>Would not recommend this place to any of my friends for anything besides for a few drinks when you have a lot of time.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food we had at the San. I had expected unimaginative, overpriced meals justified only by the stunning view over the city. However, the food was delicious and the view really is worth the visit. We had the beetroot and duck starter, which was tasty and...

So only ever been here for some drinks and snacks. Considering that it's quite upmarket, the prices are not astronomical. Absolutely beautiful setting and also very comfortable in the winter- they set up their heaters and very edgy fire places. Also, try their cooked biltong with your drink. My one little critiscm is that the hostess isn't very friendly nor accommodating...otherwise beautiful place.

Sandbar is one of the few places that is well situated in the heart of sandton, that caters for an upmarket experience of drinks and or dinner with a lovely view and not extremely over the top prices. It's still hotel prices but by no means a complete rip off.<br/><br/>It has lovely fire pits that are lit in winter to keep you warm and the service is phenomenal with friendly waiters always there just when you need them.<br/><br/>The wine collection is rather extensive and will not leave you longing for a decent bottle unknown.<br/><br/>I would recommend sun downers at this lovely spot in order to get the full appreciation of its location.

The views and the ambiance are great - even in winter! The fires on the patio are practical and beautiful especially in big group settings.<br/><br/>I find the food to be very average for the prices they charge, even the platters are mediocre.<br/><br/>I once asked for a cup of hot water and lemon and i was asked to pay R10 for it! I was a little taken aback but I paid!

Been coming to this place since it first opened! Its been a popular destination for private events, birthdays, launches and every occasion imaginable! Met The Argentinian Ruby team here :) <br/><br/>The deck has stunning views of the sandton skyline and the outside bonfires keep you warm in winter! I loved the Rattan swinging egg chairs that I made sure I bought for my pool patio at home!  This place has a great vibe almost every night of the week and its even better in summer when they have a saxophonist in the background. It is easy to be transformed into another realm... <br/><br/>The food is incosistent but you would need to know what to order. The cocktails are not cheap but very tasty!<br/><br/>If you hang out in the bar first, they make sure they give you lots of nuts to ensure that you remain very thirsty ;)<br/><br/>The platters are amazing and the menu differs from the light snack menu to the actual dinner menu - so be sure to request both to get more options as the menu is limited.<br/><br/>A must visit!

The place has a really chilled vibe. The music is very calming and accommodates everyone. <br/><br/>However the service here is really slow. But it's not a train smash if you're here just for the drinks. <br/><br/>The finger food is not so great! It's my go-to , and I always have SO much fun there that they can get away with alot. <br/>The setting is ON POINT - fire pits and fairly lights with the night sky above you. <br/>The service - I feel like they Really try but it's always slow and clumsy - order more drinks than you need so you don't have an empty glass spoil a great evening. <br/>The food standard is not consistent - I've had great meals and average meals - but never bad meals. <br/>Cocktails are too sweet - Order wine or champagne , they have a great winelist.

The San Bar is amazing little gem for all those who like to go out with some friends and have a chilled but enjoyable time. The San Deck offers a vast view of Sandton skyline and even in the winter the fires are up and running to keep you warm. As a photographer myself just try to sneak a picture with your DSLR when you have the chance and the sunset. The drinks are exotic and local , really versatile list of wines but the cocktails went lacking. Overall - great experience!

Over priced drinks and coffee, but your paying for the view and experience. I love coming here and just relaxing and enjoying a high quality South African sunset. The drinks and coffee are always good and well made, but you wouldn't expect anything less when the bill arrives

Amazing spot for a sundowner, with good food and really nice atmosphere.<br/><br/>This spot is really good for entertaining clients - local or international. The drinks menu is quite extensive and would be able to cater to quite a variety of tastes.<br/><br/>The food platters are well prepared and priced for the location.<br/><br/>The setup outside is really great and even for the colder winter nights ahead they have an amazing fire-pit (also looks quite amazing) and fire-lanterns scattered around to chase the cold away. The atmosphere is young and vibrant with just a dash of opulence.<br/><br/>So why only a rating of 3.5? The service - it kind of feels that if you are not some important celebrity/CEO/socialite you have to fight for the attention of the staff. Either that or you have to make sure you are a big group. It really is frustrating when you have to go find a waiter for service.

The most amazing view over Sandton, complete with heaters and fire pits. Indoors is warm and vibey, those braving the outdoors on winter nights are huddled around fires. The service is decent and they are always packed. Extensive wine and drinks list. Prices are relatively steep - but considering the clientele, international guests from the hotel and Sandton locals, plus the prime location, it is to be expected. Bar menu is good - nibbles and bites are tastefully plated and I recommend this venue for a treat night or great for entertaining guests.

This venue has a pretty amazing setup. I enjoyed the fact that they took the extra effort to keep the place warm.<br/><br/>Their Gin and Tonic was quite average.

I really enjoyed my line fish. It was beautiful cooked and great flavours. Its a beautiful place for sundowners with a great view. If you go on a friday it gets a bit packed so brace yourself.

What could of been a continuation of a great institution that was Sandton hotel Sunday brunches and mid shopping spree lunch stops.. Didn't happen...<br/>I look back at my youth when there were. Quees for sunday breakfast and the level of service and vibe was always amazing. To what the San bar has turned out to be. <br/>A sea of empty chairs with waitstaff for Africa hanging around trying to make them selves look busy. <br/>Also if you are outside sitting by the fire pits and you aren't flashy enough or buying bottles of champagne. You will often get forgotten by the sea of staff..<br/>So honestly. Avoid.<br/><br/>Ps the food is. Really tasty. Especially the cheese board with chocolate rye.<br/>

Arrived early to have a cocktail as it is such a gorgeous restaurant to be asked 3 times if we were allowed to be where we were as it was reserved. It improved immensely from here,our waitress, priviledge, was lovely. Starters were mind blowing, I have never seen prawns and a tomato like that, what a taste infusion. Mains done perfectly and very flavoursome, we had salmon (cooked perfectly) and chicken (possibly the best tasting ever). Desert was a perfect. The ice cream complemented the sweet carrot cake with a goregous warm sauce. What an amazing dinner. Great job San Bar

It was my best friend's birthday, so naturally we wanted to enjoy something really upmarket. It's quite pricey here and for that, the service was below average and we were charged for an extra drink... and on top of that we had to report inappropriate behaviour from an escort and her client- which was sorted out immediately by the manager (props for that). Love. Jambo.

I love San. It's super trendy and just an awesome place. Drinks are expensive, and bar snacks and light meals too but if you're looking for an upmarket venue than this is the place to go.

Definitely still my favourite spot for sundowners. Especially on a Sunday afternoon. Be sure to book in advance though as tables gets reserved early on in the day. Their staff is extremely friendly and courteous and go out of their way to make sure everyone is comfortable. I tried out a few of their cocktails but the chilli cherry crush cocktail has got to still be my favourite but the others were also just as good! Definitely worth the visit either with friends, partner or even alone to just sit, relax and admire the sunset over Sandton’s skyline whilst sipping on a cocktail.

What awful service. ALL the waiters are so unhelpful and unwilling to help. They literally ignore you when you when you ask them something or just give you a blank stare. Very rude people. <br/><br/>The waiters cannot cope with the amount of people that come to the San Bar it seems and treat customers so badly! <br/><br/>There was an 8 month pregnant waiter who tried her best to serve us in the beginning which is just so unfair! She needed to be at home. You could see she couldn't cope, what kind of slavery does the Sandton Sun believe in. <br/><br/>Disgusting service from the other waiters. <br/><br/>There was no dessert and when they did bring us dessert they brought us a stale, hard cheese cake. <br/><br/>Appalling, wow.

A great upmarket restaurant with incredible views of the Sandton Skyline. Whether you go for lunch or dinner every thing on their impressive menu looks delicious and you feel like trying a bit of everything. The food we've had there has always been excellent and very tasty. Even the homemade bread with the flavoured butters and olives was great. Great food. Great views and great service.

What a beautiful restaurant! Even though it has a view out over construction. Ever since walking past this stunning place a few weeks ago, I have wanted to go eat there.<br/><br/>The ambience was amazing :) and the service was excellent. I had the fillet for mains and it was great, although slightly more well done than my requested medium rare.<br/><br/>I was not impressed with dessert. The creme brulee had a strong ginger taste and really wasn't to my taste. My friend had a delicious berry sorbet dish.<br/><br/>Overall it was an amazing night. I loved the decor and the service was great. The food just wasn't as great as I thought it would be.<br/><br/>

Had a stupendous foodie experience at the San Bar. The entre of scallops paired with the wine of the night was incredibly tasty. My partner loved his main as did I, I had the chicken which was cooked absolutely succulently. The creme brûlée wasn't the best I've tried, the ginger infusion didn't agree with my pallet but the chocolate tart certainly did. The general ambiance is quite delightful and romantic so I'd definitely recommend it for a date or a special occasion. I was truly grateful for this treat.

Incredibly vibrant place to spend an evening. Beautiful setting overlooking Sandton, live music and fire pits all around. Only thing is that it is quite expensive for what it is. Wouldn't have more than two drinks, but other than that a lekker place.

I went to San Bar for drinks and a bite to eat yesterday. We walked into the restaurant and looked for a place to sit on the deck, three waiters watched us from a distance yet not one attempted to walk in our direction or offer us a seat to sit in. Once we were self-seated we attempted to flag down a waiter to ask for the drinks and food menu. After several failed attempts at eye contact and waving down waiters that were walking straight past us we managed to stop someone and ask for a menu, needless to say, he never returned with our menus. Five minutes later we managed to flag down another waiter and pleaded with him to serve us, his response was “No, I cannot help you but I will send someone to help you” and off he walked. Once again, nobody came to our assistance. At this point we were both getting slightly irritated and thought it might be worth reporting the problem to a manager. The female manager on duty (Sunday, 04 October 2015 at 17:00) grunted that she would send someone over and walked away without a single apology for the service we had been subjected to so far. After five minutes of waiting we got up and left and passed the manager chatting to two other staff members. When I stopped to ask her what she had done since we had spoken to her, she tapped the waiter next to her and said she was just about to send him to help us. It is worth noting that the deck was not full yesterday and the restaurant was by no means understaffed (this was obvious by the amount of staff standing around doing nothing more than ignoring paying customer). We left San Bar and had a delightful meal at Col-Cacchios in Benmore, it might not have the view that San Bar has but dealing with pleasant and eager to please staff that clearly understand the meaning of hospitality and customer service made Col-Cacchios the clear winner of the day. <br/><br/>San Bar staff and management it would be useful to remember that you are serving customers, not a life sentence. Learn how to enjoy your work!!!!

Absolutely lovely restaurant , the deck has most magical view Friday nights are my usual nights to pop there order a drink and take in the fresh air . It's the perfect restaurant to celebrate any special occasion...

San Bar is one of those places where the only thing that keeps the score up is location. Location, location, location. <br/>The drinks are overpriced and the service is quite possibly the worst I've experienced over a few years and it is consistently bad. Ask a waiter for a drink (if you can find one, because if you flag one down, he/she will then direct "your" waiter to you when he/she feels like it) and you'll wait another 15 minutes at least for it to arrive. Think that buying a bucket might solve this? Think again. You may have your bucket but the waiter won't leave their bottle opener at the table so even though the beer is right in front of you, you have to get a waiter to come by and open it. I've learned that going to the bar and paying each time is the most efficient approach.<br/>That said, the outside deck is amazing, particularly at sunset and the vibe is good. It's the only reason I keep going back.<br/>

We were here on thursday 170915 the ladt day of my 27th year. Drove all the way from bloemfontein (4hr drive) and we were not dissapointed. The food here is epic, thanks to the service by Didier. I am coming back for some more. What a place this is...

Attached to the Sandton Sun..and a short walk across from the Sandton mall skywalk. It has a laid back atmosphere..<br/>The deck outdoors is pleasant weather permitting..Good music and for a tourist the comfort of indoors with pleasant music and reasonably priced wine.

It was a Thursday and the deck was packed, yet comfortable, with upbeat, chilled tunes. The ideal place for a small work celebration or decadent, after work drinks (at R80 for some glasses of wine). The snacks were tasty but not outstanding - dim sum, mini beef Prego rolls, fried halloumi, etc. A pleasant interlude between work and the next get-together.

A great location - in Sandton city, just next to the sky walk from Intercontinental hotel. An awesome ambience.... Lot of options to sit: By the bar, on the couches, proper dine-in seatings, outside with the fireplace, etc..... - and all of them equally nice. A great sun-downer location.

Make sure you check your bills. Waiters take chances that you not double checking your orders and are ringing up more than what you ordered. 5 extra beers placed on a bill of 5 pax. Waiter then begged not to give me a reprinted bill as he will get into trouble... Classic case of theft right there.

Despite construction in the surrounding hotel, San is still a beautiful restaurant, but unfortunately that's where the good news stops. The food was average and well below what you expect at a high end establishment with large price tags. But what truly killed my experience was the service. They seemed very disorganized and uncoordinated the whole evening, it took a while for the food to arrive and when it did it was at different times. No one was friendly or polite, one waitress even burped loudly next to the table and didn't even excuse herself. I associate places like San with class and elegance but by the time I left my perception of San had changed. Overall it was an unpleasant evening.

Beautiful venue! Booked a table for birthday celebrations and the staff ensured that a table was available inside as well in case it got too cold outside, since we were in the heart of winter. Waiter made sure that drinks were constantly running within our large group... Always a fav place...

Scores high just for location and ambience. Night or day visit equally cool. The restaurant inside is super expensive and a very good one, but only for very big occasions I've eaten there once.. You'll want to use your iPhone camera to capture the opulence and coolness of the various venues...

The San Deck is known for its exceptional views of Sandton and it doesn't disappoint! Neighboring the famous P&G building and situated in the heart of Sandton, The San Deck is magnificent. <br/><br/>Unfortunately that's where it ends. The service is exceptionally slow, with surely waiters whom you have to beg to help you. In winter it's freezing, even with the gorgeous pit fires. The food is fine but really expensive for what you're getting. <br/><br/>Overall, if you're looking for location and views for your Instagram account, The San Deck will tick all the right boxes. If you're looking for a great experience, you're better off going to one of the other hotel bars in Sandton and the surrounds.
