Review Polpetta - Sandton

Paul
Went on a night where every seat was full so the service was understandably slow. The food was tasty and they have an excellent gluten-free pizza base. The chocolate Milkshake was delicious and they have a good selection of wines. The ambience is superb and the view over the city is a treat.

Our food was delicious and portion sizes were perfect. The service was amazing too, staff and management are attentive and on point. The only thing that is not perfect is that the restaurant is very noisy. It's the second time we've been and both times sitting inside, the noise level of everyone talking within the space was just a little too loud to be able to have a casual chat and catch up.

Food was very fresh. Affordable cocktail menu. Great wine. Service was excellent. Loved this place

I absolutely adore the pasta here … my favourite spinach and ricotta filled pasta is an amazing combination with the aurora sauce … must try ! Pizzas are delicious and veg options plenty

Great, late pizza for lunch on a Monday afternoon. Nothing to gripe about. Nice, breezy spot, really cold beer and wonderful waitress

This is Polpetta’s new venue - has been for a while now; they used to be at 90° shopping centre. The venue is spectacular with options for both inside or outside seating with a view of the northern suburbs. There is plenty of parking and it is wheelchair accessible. We had the fillet steak which was cooked to perfection with the perfect flavour of smokiness. Their large pizza oven is quite something to behold and they’ve put a lot of effort into the décor. They have the best chocolate cheesecake! Service was friendly and efficient too despite it being quite busy. Booking is essential on weekends. This is a popular venue for all and rightly so! We make a point of visiting when we’re in the area.

Great food & presentation, athosphere with the right level of background music, allowing guests to chat.

Service was not up to standard, but good tasty and a few vegetarian options

Fine quality pizza. Never disappoints! Sheryl was super nice, and treated us to cappuccinos as our take out order took a bit longer to prepare (because the place is popular and busy with a lot of orders).
Natasha Padachy
What a delightful experience... The food is amazing... The staff are super friendly... The places isn't too busy..very clean...nice scenery... I ordered a vegetarian pasta dish... It was one of the most delicious pastas I've ever tasted... Would definitely recommend trying this place.

This place is amazing. Huge portions, easily shared amongst 2 people. Great value for money. One of the more affordable places to eat really great Italian cuisine. Their pasta ranks amongst the best I've had, but their value for money portions stand out the most. Interesting cocktails or their great wine selection helps top off the experience. It gets really busy so booking is best. Has a large vibey atmosphere with tons of Italian character. They have several off the menu options daily that showcase their experimental nature of Italian with a South African twist.

The food was decent, we had no issues at all, but it was very average. We had a mix of pastas. Nothing was amazing that you would rush back to eat again. But otherwise all good. I wouldn't avoid them, but I would not visit again in a hurry.

We hosted a 40th birthday get together for my sister. The restaurant was so accommodating in allowing us to put up our own decorations. We had a private area so we could still abide by COVID-19 protocols while still enjoying our time there. They were extremely patient and helpful. The food was amazingly delicious - a large variety to choose from. The ambiance is chilled and the restaurant itself is very spacious. The service is amazing and we definitely will be returning.

Such a great restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Pricing is very reasonable. Thank you Polpetta.

Great food, selection and quality wise. Brilliant service. Highly recommended!! Even got dessert snack on the house.

I've eaten here a few times and the food is always amazing! Friendliest staff and waiters. I highly recommend trying whatever is on their specials menu, it's always great

I want to compliment the manager, Stan, who runs the Polpetto branch at The Wedge. My Pizza was not as ordered, and he rectified it immediately. Thanks Stan, you’re a really super guy and a great manager. 👌

You can tell a lot about a restaurant by how involved management / ownership is on the floor. Nobody cares more about your experience at Polpetta than Ivano. He's created and curated a wonderful atmosphere, a fantastic menu, and kitchen and wait staff who genuinely love what they do. There are waiters at Polpetta that recognise me from when I first ate at the old location, 15 years ago. I've never had a bad meal at Polpetta. I do sometimes miss the old spot, but if we want a friendly, fresh, tasty Italian dining experience in Jozi, there's nowhere better.

A family favorite! Polpetta is our Friday night (sometimes Wednesday and Thursday night also 🙊) regular. Their food is consistently delicious and the Service excellent. The owners are hands on, friendly and always present. The new resturant in the wedge centre is gorgeous with a great outdoor seating area in summer. I highly recommend Polpetta!

Good food but UNBEARABLY HOT. Why are there no fans or Airconditioning in the humidity of JHB?! Makes the overall experience awful and ruined the entire lunch.

Polpetta is a great Italian restaurant, located at the Wedge Shopping center in Morningside. The place buzzes with great energy eminating from the service staff and the open kitchen where you can see the pizzas and pasta dishes being made. We took a chance to just pop in for dinner on Friday, and we got a table fairly quickly - despite not having a reservation. The food itself was good and great value for money. Would like to come back and try more dishes - especially the pizzas.

Service 3/5
Food 4/5
Overall 3.5/5

Went to have dinner here and was quite impressed. The restaurant has a great location with a nice view. The food we had was amazing, and the pizzas here are fantastic! Jolene

We ate here for the first time and it totally exceeded expectations! Absolutely delicious. I ordered a chicken breast and veg as a takeaway for lunch the next day. Not expecting anything special, I was absolutely blown away by how delicious such a plain and simple dish could be. I would eat bowls of the vegetables. Will definitely be back.

Polpetta's new location at the Wedge Morningside is stunning. The food is fresh, tasty and authentic. The salted caramel pecan cheesecake is divine. Also tried the chocolate ganache cheesecake and looking forward to try the flake cheesecake

A morning of work on Sunday but now time to relax for lunch...what better place to do this than at Polpetta, my “go to” Italian restaurant....and some would say my second home...

....as always, the flash fried calamari to start.....a mixture of tubes and tentacles (my “signature dish”...🙂) beautifully crisped with a plethora of delicate spices....

....the pairing for this dish is obvious....the redoubtable “Life from Stone” from the Springfield winery.... every year the vineyard battles against nature in order to produce highly concentrated, powerful wines with a flinty, mineral character true to the quartz rock in which it is grown.... a true expression of the site’s terroir.....

....and to follow pizza “Quattro Formaggi”...the “four cheeses”.....in this case, mozzarella, gorgonzola, feta and parmesan....the richness of the cheeses being offset by the subtle nuances of fresh basil leaves....

....the pairing on this occasion was the ever faithful Beyerskloof pinotage....the most popular pinotage in South Africa...well structured, yet elegant and soft, medium-bodied with a fresh and superbly balanced finish....

This restaurant has always been awesome and now it’s in a league of its own.....
Currently Banting at the moment and pleasantly surprised with the grilled chicken breast napolitana.. 😍 do try the tender succulent chicken, I paired the dish with grilled vegetables and spinach. The ambience is great in the new setting with a view.

Delicious Italian, great service and wonderful ambience. This very full restaurant is full of warmth and great food. No matter which day you go, it's busy and a vibe. Try it for the best Italian in town.
Nicole Rossouw
This is our go-to Italian restaurant. Been here plenty for take aways and several times to eat out. It is consistently good. Never had a bad meal here and the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. New venue is exquisite.
Elizabeth Kobilski
Decided to try the restaurant for lunch. Very, very disappointed. Cold pizza with congealed cheese. Pre made salad. At the time we were there it was not even busy. Very disappointed as it is in our neighborhood and would have been somewhere we would go often .

Fabulously consistent Italian cuisine and that includes outstanding pizzas!!! NOTE THAT THE RESTAURANT IS NOW SITUATED AT THE WEDGE CENTRE - Great new and enlarged premises.
Kirst Allnutt
Divine pizza. Definitely one of the best pizzas I have had. I had the salmon pizza.
Usually not a fan of seafood pizzas but this was delicious and an absolute winner!

This gem of a neighbourhood restaurant is outstanding. Great food at a good price with fantastic service. Try the polpette meatball pizza. Can not recommend it enough!

I’ve been coming here for two years now just for the Roberto pasta. It’s that good.
Decided to stop doing take-away and actually do a sit-down meal a few days ago and also enjoyed myself. Waitresses friendly; one of the waiters was very creative with the cocktails. Top service
Eleftherios Kyriazis
Great dinner spot. The pizzas and pastas are both authentic and home made - you absolutely can't go wrong. The managers and staff are accomodating and friendly. Love it.
Wendy
Good ambient deco, good food and good service. The location took me by surprise, as I have been to 90 degrees for shopping and yoga, never thought a nice Italian restaurant will be situated there. Although I meet my friend during the week night, still packed with customers. It's good to book seats in advance. It's a place for Italian food lovers. Personally enjoyed their pasta.

A lovely Italian casual restaurant. Pizza are very good and so is the grilled chicken what was very disappointing was the beef Lasagna. The meat used was found to be the lowest grade mine chuck one can find.

I sure the owners do not know about this
Beside that horrible fact the food is great
.
Anisha Lutchman
Polpetta is a fantastic little Italian spot at 90 Degrees on Rivonia. I've been here twice now and I must say that the food is consistently good. Another thing I've noticed is that this restaurant is always buzzing so you'll be lucky to get a table.

It was a Sunday afternoon and my sister and I popped in for a quick lunch. We decided to share the Pollo pizza and substituted the avo for mushrooms. The pizza was a delicious thin base pizza with a generous amount of topping and so much flavour.

The service was also pretty quick and the manager also checked up on us to make sure that everything was good.

A lovely restaurant with good food and service!

Great little place to pop in for a quick meal or relaxed dinner. The service is efficient and our food came out quite quickly. We ordered the Arrabiatta with penne and two pizzas. All the dishes were fresh and delicious. I highly recommend Polpetta if you want some tasty Italian food in the Sandton area.
Rigard & Jeanine
Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Great salads and some of the best, if not the best, pizzas in the Sandton area. A very popular weekend hang out spot, especially so for lunch. Can also order for take away.
Tony
Excellent food and service. Highly personal and warm, professional and prompt. Jeremy Ivano and Paolo are attentive and alert. Gnocchi and pizza variety and house salad were outstanding.
Mayuri
Highly recommend the chicken schnitzel with the best creamed spinach I've ever had. The tossed chicken salad is delicious - it consists also of robiola cheese (to me the perfect mix of mozzarella and feta) - I'm no cheese connoisseur, but this is off the map. Great service...although do make a reservation for supper as it can get quite busy.

14.12.2016. I was meeting a friend for lunch whom I haven't seen in a while. She suggested that I choose a place to meet. This place popped into my mind as it was near both our offices and I've only heard good reviews from it.

I must say I am really impressed with the food. We ordered the Ivano pizza ( grilled strips of steak with onions and fresh rocket ) and a Incazzata pasta ( napolitana sauce, green pepper, basil pesto, garlic, chilli, cream with added chicken )

Thin based Pizza with enough flavour and my pasta was just as good.

The service was efficient and our food came out quite quickly. Our waitress was really sweet and management came to check up on us during our stay.

Definitely a good lunch time spot with fantastic food and a good variety.

Ordered through Ubereats, bolognaise with tagliatelle pasta. The sauce was still acidic, seems like it was not cooked long enough. Other than that the pasta was al dente, which is great. Order arrived hot! Decent!

I always have pasta when I go to Polpetta and it is always AMAZING. Classic Italian and perfect every time. I usually go for the traditional spaghetti and meat balls, and it's incredible. The sauce is always perfect - you can taste how fresh the ingredients are. The Alfredo is also great. I would recommend Polpetta to anyone who wants to have a chilled night having great food. The vibe is really cosy and intimate.

A nice spot for a sneaky lunch and a glass of wine. There is however a little lacking in the way of service I just can't put my finger on it, perhaps an off day, no reason to avoid this place though. We enjoyed a table salad and I had a pizza which filled the gap... all in all a lovely lunch spot...I believe dinner is also great there.
Korina Karagiannakis
We met a few friends there on Friday evening and it was lovely.
we ate the Gorgonzola foccacia... i would have just eaten that the whole evening.. everyone enjoyed their meal. The portions are very generous. I did not like the center too much. I do feel they a really good restaurant i would go to often perhaps if they were at a better location... from what i can see they have a loyal following and people keep on going back. ;-) . we have an 8 month old and they unfortunately don't have any changing facilities... something to consider ;-) get a baby sitter and go without baby.
Daniel Wiggill
This resturant has been around for years and it shows.....
Service is always good and friendly...
Food is classic modern Italian with the usual south African favourites.
If you are in the Bryanston Rivonia area and looking for a great tasty Italian meal this is your stop.
This is a family favorite when we want a quick pizza and pasta fix. The owner is awesome and service is great, obviously so is their food. Their house salad and their special dressing is so yum! Their pasta and pizza never disappoint.

Satisfies the gooey, flavorsome, hearty pasta craving everytime! Good service and homely atmosphere.

One of my favourite spots in Sandton. Great Italian food that blew all expectations out of the water! Absolutely delicious! The pizza as well as the pasta are beyond fantastic. The atmosphere is cosy and unexpected. A true hidden gem. Service was incredible friendly and efficient! I definitely would recommend Polpetta to anyone! 10/10

Have only tried a few pastas here (not lots of veg options) and while the tastes are pleasant, the pasta is passable we have tried different varieties on more than 4 occasions. More chilli would also be great. Otherwise not a bad option, consistent.

Dinner with two of my best friends the other night was so delicious. The pizza was so tasty and delicious and the gnocchi was unbelievable too. Been coming to Polpetta for years and is really one of my favorite spots. The vibe is always great too! So worth trying if you're keen for Italian.
Skye Da Silva
One of my favourite local Italian restaurants! I usually have their Arora pasta and love it! Service can be inconsistent, but it is a genuinely family run spot, with the owners walking around making food and wine recommendations. If in the area, it's a must visit - be sure to book!

A nice Italian non franchise restaurant that has the specs of Italian authenticity. Bookings are essential at this place for dining as most nights it is quite full to capacity with added take away patrons at the front of shop.
I felt the place a little too small for the number of patrons it hosted as tables were quite close to each other. Although that would be quite acceptable of a European restaurant seating arrangement for casual dining but not so accustomed to in SA where space is desired.
In terms of the menu it has all the typical Italian casual dining offerings of pizza and pasta. Tried the Bruschetta which was a medley of baby marrows, artichokes, aubergines and cherry tomatoes grilled in olive oil and balsamic vinegar served on toasted slices of ciabatta. Bread was extremely fresh and refreshing with flavorful veggies but believe it could have done with some mozzarella on it.
For the mains had the Roberto fettuccine pasta which had grilled calamari, prawns, fresh tomatoes, tossed in olive oil, garlic and a touch of pesto with added creamy sauce. The pasta was done to perfection with the awesomeness of the pesto flavor but believe the prawns was slightly underdone and dish lacked a basic ingredient of salt.
Overall it's a nice place for a quick mid week dinner albeit is a bit over crowded, which the next time may just try a pizza to go.

Many regulars, families and couples. For us, it's a quick grab and go with great food. I'd go more for the pastas than pizza.. Their meatballs are one of the best I have ever had!!

At first you think the service is going to be shocking and you have to seat yourself but the food is good, the heaters are warm and the bill is fair... Beats cooking at home

Friday night was cold and I didn't have time to have lunch at work so when it was time for supper all I wanted was comfort food and what could be better then having pasta. Polpetta is down the road from us and we were lucky to get a table. They were so busy with a stream of regular customers coming in to fetch take-aways. I ordered the Alfredo penne pasta with chicken instead of ham. Service was slightly delayed which was understandable because it was really busy. My pasta was cooked well but it could have done with a little more seasoning (salt). The sauce was lovely and creamy and the chicken was tender. Will have to go back to sample the pizzas.

Not sure what to do for dinner on Friday, and remembered Polpetta down the road from the house. Lucky enough we managed to get a table. On arrival the restaurant was full, and there were a lot of people walking in to collect take aways. I decided to have something I would never usually order at any restaurant, the chicken schnitzel with cream spinach and sweet potato. The schnitzel was crunchy, succulent and well cooked, and worked well with cream spinach, which was absolutely delicious, and the sweet potato. One thing I do know is I will be returning to try out the risottos.

A strong favourite amongst our family and friends. Regardless of how busy this place is, service is always spot on. The waiters/waitresses know the menu and do not mess up the orders. They are attentive and friendly! The manager (on a Friday night) walks around and checks in with the customers and also helps his staff when they are busy. The food is also really well priced and the portions are big... We love this spot and cannot get enough!!

The Family went to
Polpetta for a late Saturday lunch.

Started with a
House Salad - which is always delicious.

Kids had a Pizza
and a Pasta - Which the three of them polished off.
My husband had
the Penne Ivano (Steak pasta) and I had the Chicken breast in a Napoli
sauce with grilled spinach and sweet potato - The food was tasty, fresh and yummy.

The service was
good and the food arrived punctually.

We will definitely
be back again…Will take pictures next time...

Although this Italian stop is situated very close to me, I only tried it for the first time last night.

All in all, a great Italian menu with a good range of pastas and pizzas etc. we opted for takeaways but restaurant itself had a nice buzz. The food was very good- tasty home fired pizzas with crispy bases and flavorful pasta.

Will definitely try it again - and will sit down next time!

Popped for lunch this week. For starters we shared a focaccia and for mains I ordered the arrabiata pasta with extra mushrooms, the food was tasty. Service was good. Kevin Kaganas

Although situated in between and next to quite a few fast food restaurants and a super busy parking lot, Polpetta has managed to set itself up in a way that takes you out of that chaotic environment into one of a relaxed dining.

The food is really fresh and all the meals at our table looked really good. I had the beef fillet with steamed spinach and roast vegetables. The fillet was cooked to perfection and really tasty. The roast vegetables were different to what you'd normally expect from a roast veg side and included artichokes and aubergine (amongst others) which made for a delicious side. I have also had the beef ravioli and penne aurora, both of which were great.

The service was great with really efficient and professional staff which always enhances the overall meal.

Although there are better settings for a restaurant of this quality, I really enjoyed the meal and would recommend you try it out.

Went to this restaurant based in a number of positive comments. It is situated between a number of take away places and a video store and a 24 hour Spar so parking is an issue. Seating is inside and outside and I can imagine that in summer it will be great when the side panels are opened for fresh air. Service was prompt but at the same time I must add that the waiter must have been very inexperienced. Fistula she opened the bottle of white wine before it got to our table (it was a screw top); luckily I know the wine very well and could therefore ensure that it was what u ordered and I could see that it was newly opened - so no funny business suspected but just but acceptable. Secondly she really battled when asked what brand of coffee would be used for the after dinner coffees - she first brought ha the actual coffee beans and then eventually asked the manager for the detail. As far as the good is concerned it was really good. We both had pizzas, the Pollo with chicken, peppadews and avo and the Del Sole with Italian sausage, sundried tomato, chili, garlic and avo. Both with a thin crust and really tasty, so much we could not stop eating. Overall a good experience but I would ensure that u don't get the same waiter when I return.

Last night, a friend who swears by Polpetta took me there for an early dinner and what struck me straight away about the restaurant was how full it was.

Our waitress Dorothy, however, made a plan to seat us and we settled in with some wine recommendations. It wasn't long before Ivano came across to check if we were okay and our drinks were on there way. I watched how he worked his way to each and every table, both inside and out, with a lot of care and attention to detail, greeting and checking on meals... I don't see that very often anymore with restaurant owners and it made me smile.

Ivano takes a lot of pride in everything that he serves and does, and stopped by again later to make his own recommendations for the meal before we ordered.
Onto our food:
To start, we shared the carpaccio which was superb! While we are on the carpaccio, just a useless fact that I was interested to learn yesterday.. Carpaccio was named after a Venetian painter known for the characteristic red and white tones of his work and this raw beef was originally served with lemon, olive oil, and white truffle or Parmesan cheese.
It is only in later years that it is now served with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt & ground pepper (which is how I am accustomed to eating it).

For mains, I selected a staple (that I have come to love over the years), ravioli napoletana. Unfortunately, the ravioli didn't taste as if it was freshly made and was served al dente rather than al forno, which made it more chewy than I would have liked but the sauce was excellent. I chose not to send it back and ate it though (as I don't like to make a scene).
Again, Ivano came past the table to check on us and after deciding that we were not going to have dessert, he sent over the most delicious pecan pear pie on the house!! The pastry was fresh, warmly baked and served with vanilla ice cream. I am still thinking about it this morning!!

*Recommendation: Overall - an unexpectedly great meal on a Thursday and some of the best service that I have received in Johannesburg. If you are near the Rivonia area and haven't tried this little gem, it is well worth the trip!
J L
The setting leaves a lot to be desired... it's in the parking lot of a b-grade (that's being kind) suburban shopping centre. However, the food is as good as the location is bad. The salads are so fresh you'd think they'd grown them themselves and the pizzas are so good you'd think they have an army of Italian grannies in cages in the kitchen (maybe they do?). Try the salmon, caper and marscapone pizza, your tastebuds will thank you (your waist may not).
DebbyGP
Have only ordered take out from here on various occasions. Pizzas are fresh and hot out of the oven and service is fast. Simple toppings but fresh and delicious.
Esmarie Blignaut
Worst restaurant experience in the North. Manager shouted at us and treated us like dogs. STAY AWAY, not an emjoyable or relaxing experience at all.

Polpetta is a great little Italian spot. We shared a vegetarian pizza and a vegetable cheesy pasta bake. Both were really yummy. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed the Apple chilli sauce!
For dessert we shared a peppermint pudding which was heavenly. The only thing I would say is it was a bit too small for the price you pay. Enjoyable night out and will be returning!
Megan Fisher
I went to Polpetta as part of a work dinner, having never heard of the place before and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were fantastic and the food all arrived hot and at the same time. Half of our table ordered pizza and raved about it and the other half ordered pasta. I had the Alfredo, and while it was really good, I can't say it was the best. On a whole it was a good experience and I'll be back to try out other menu items.
Santham Naicker
Had a lovely glass of wine with the most divine pizza and a peculiar but tasty sauce which i was asked to guess the ingredients of! I was served by a stunning waitress by the name of Celine.... The evening was pleasant😄😄
Natalie Shephard
I didn't know this place existed until a friend suggested it. What a pleasant surprise. Great food and an excellent variety on the menu at very reasonable prices
Dinika Singh
Probably one of the best italian restaurants in JHB. The food is unbelievably delicious. The owner even took time out to have a chat with me and educated me on different foods! Was an absolute pleasure dining here. Will definitely be back. Be sure to book though... it can get busy.... even on the weekdays.
Asian Foodie
As a thin based pizza lover, this was paradise for me. They were also very generous with their toppings, the Parma ham that I had actually covered the whole pizza and I couldn't see the base.

It was very crowded and also very noisy so it's not somewhere you'd want to go on a date but it is a good spot to meet up with some friends.

Our waitress was very friendly and always wore a big smile on her face. The food was also served quick quickly considering how packed the place was.

Place to find some excellent Pasta. The restaurant Speciality "Polpetta Pasta" is one of my favourites. Most of the pastas are great and there is a decent collection of wine to go with the good.
Janice Kelvin Leibowitz
Wow! Couldn't believe how busy this place was on a Sunday night! Lovely, friendly service. Quite a varied menu including grills. Food was great although the focaccia was slight over cooked and a bit too crispy. And there wasn't much available for dessert so we decided to skip it!
Dean Sevel
One of the best Italian joints in joburg. The house salad is superb and the prima vera pasta with chicken is fantastic. A real Italian meal. Great service and management too.
Mashilo Moabelo
Best pasta by far. Roberto - sea food pasta and thier speciality polpetta (home made beef mearballs). .......................................
Chris Tugman
Still the best pizza in Jhb, made with the freshest ingredients. Staff are wonderful and great selection of wines; don't be put off by the fast food neighbours!
Maxine Gunzenhauser
This place is really fantastic. They are conveniently located and have a surprising amount of space. The pastas are divine, the service very good and the ambience light and relaxed. A "must try" for sure.

Really good Italian family food. Well priced and always good. This is what good homely food should taste like. The food is so good that the service because irrelevant - feels like home. I'm a regular

It's not often a restaurant deserves or even gets the full 5*****
but..........
Polpetta not only deserves it but also owns it.
From friendly service, hands on owner, & fresh true Italian style food.
Many Italian restaurants have had the same food for like a hundred years,
Polpetta is a trendy local for many and is up to date with the food world, they even stock a nice range of craft beer!

Take a look at the photos, you see a full restaurant with the owner(Ivano) giving his guests a true honest experience.

Don't forget to try the most awesome dessert in the world!!!!!

DESSERT PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Italian place that's always buzzing with people. I've never had a bad meal here and I've been many times. The service is good and the management are so accommodating and friendly. We ordered our usual House Salad for 2 (R55), boy do you get your money's worth. Packed with cheese, avo, olives, tomato, boiled egg, cucumbers and lettuce, real good value and real good. It comes with a sweet dressing which finishes off the taste well. After the salad I ordered the Carpaccio which is served with lemon, shavings of Parmesan cheese and fresh rocket, so good, but oh so thin you could almost see through it. My BF ordered the Panzerotti Aurora, a cream napolitana sauce which he really enjoyed. I've also had the Ivana which is great (grilled strips of fillet steak, onions and fresh rocket).
For dessert they have the most decadently delicious Chocolate Cheesecake, a must try if you have room.
It's recommended that you book to avoid disappointment as this place is always busy.
Tshidi Khunou
This place is so underrated. The food is amazing. The service is also just as good. The only thing that might work against it is the parking. Love the food.

I've walked past Polpetta many times without even taking notice. Man, was that to my detriment. I've been for dinner there twice in the last 8 days and all I can say is that it's absolutely fantastic.

The food is just brilliant. Presentation is classy and the flavours are just spot on. Each bite feels like a new experience. The complimentary "bread sticks" on the table are also sublime.

Service can't be faulted either. Attentive waiters and the managers are ever present and run a tight ship.

Food is also great value for money.

Only negative for me would be that the likelihood of running into my mates parents is high. Seems to be a 50 plus hangout of note.

Polpetta has fast become my new favourite Italian dinner location.

I moved to Morningside in March and Polpetta very soon became a local favorite. The service is always good and a manager (or two) is always present, making sure you are happy and comfortable. The food is delicious. My personal favorites: Gnocchi with incazzata sauce (or any sauce), the spinach and ricotta ravioli with aurora sauce or the Roma pizza. My boyfriend often has the lamb cutlets and dessert pizza and enjoys both. A perfect midweek meal.

Polpetta is an Italian restaurant located in the dingy 90 Degrees shopping centre in Rivonia. There is a relatively small indoor section which spills out into the outdoor seating. It seems to be quite the popular place for family dinners. If you prefer your meals to be kids free then avoid! The decor emulates old school Italian in need of an update. My most memorable part of dinner was the very friendly manager even though service was not of that same standard. We sat in the outdoor area where there was no real ambience or vibe to speak of. This is not the place to come to for a date or with friends but rather a quick dinner stop for those who are lazy to cook and stay nearby. We tried the baby marrow, onion, artichokes, aubergine and cherry tomatoes grilled in olive oil and balsamic vinegar pasta for R79. Not exactly the type of pasta I am used to in terms or appearance or taste but it was surprisingly good. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the flavours worked well together. An inspired vegetarian dish which is much more preferable to boring napolitana sauce. I had a simple pizza with mushrooms and pepper for R84. This usually also comes with olives, capers, onions and artichokes but I decided I was keeping it quite simple for the night. The cheese was really cheap – chewy and oily. Disappointly average in the taste department making it not a pizza I would eat again. This doesn’t feel like an authentic Italian restaurant as advertised. While the prices are good, the food is just okay and not enough to warrant a return trip. It might be sufficiently okay as a takeaway pizza place. For more reviews check out my blog: thecuriousgirlwrites.wordpress.com

One of my most favorite pizza joints.
The Roberto is a must for any seafood lover they are consistent and the service is also good... The pasta isn't too shabby either

Great restaurant, friendly staff, great salads and pizzas, wonderful ambience. Often have take-always and have never been disappointed. Would strongly recommend the chicken house salad or any pizza.

Italian authenticity in Sandton with true Italian hospitality! Great vibe and excellent service. Frequented by a very loyal clientele - for good reason :)

No fuss, tasty but nothing special. If you're looking for a chilled and easy night out then head down to this Morningside local. Massive plus is the quick turnaround of takeaways!

I have always had great service and great food at this restaurant. They have a good selection of pizzas and pastas to choose from and I have never been disappointed by a meal. I especially enjoy their vegetarian selection of pastas and the Ivanno pasta.

Classic Italian restaurant. Good service and our food was prepared really quickly. They have a few unique pizzas which I would recommend for a quick dinner.

There aren't many restaurants i enjoy within the Rivonia area, but this one is pretty good.
Their menu is what you'd find at most Italian restaurants - pizza, pasta and some grills.
We opted for their pasta, i had the spinach and ricotta panzerotti and my friend had the penne, we each had the mediterranio "sauce", it is not a sauce per se but rather fresh cherry tomatoes, with basil, olive oil and feta. We enjoyed it.

We would not leave without trying their dessert pizza - yes you read right! They make the best sweet pizza i've tasted in JHB! It had nutella, marshmallows, nuts and ice cream, with some strawberry. Bliss in my mouth!

So everyone goes on about their pizza, so let me just say upfront, I'm not a fan of their pizza. Saying that, I think their pasta is good and their quality is consistent. Would definitely recommend it for lovers of Italian food that live in Morningside.

This is our go to restaurant for a Thursday evening. The pasta with chicken and cream is very good with an Italian salad starter. My family always enjoy their Pizza's and have taken to ordering take always for the next day. Good wine selection. And excellent salads for lunch.

I thought that the food was really great...good atmosphere with a small homie feel. Although it was extremely full I thought the service was slightly slow and lax. But overall it was an ok experience.

Polpetta is always good for a pizza, and especially the Parma Ham, Rocket and Parmiaggano cheese one - which is awesome. Also good for a Nice, relaxed vibe, small, and busy. Other Pizza's are ok, if you prefer the very thin crust pizzas, with thin toppings, and little or no cheese - it does mean you get hungry again the minute you leave. The pastas are inconsistent, at times you may be lucky and get a really tasty one cooked well, and often the pasta will be over cooked and spicing erratic!! The table salad is always good, as is their trademark honey dressing. Service is good, with owners circulating visibly, and greeting everyone with loads of charm! Menus are still similar, but have evolved to include some newer options, to 10 years back, when Luca's in Morningside was operating. This was before the owners split off in two, and Roberto and Ivano opened Polpetta, with Luca opening Luca's in Sunninghill!

Polpetta is my favourite Italian restaurant. The food is excellent especially their tripe and polenta. The ambiance and the people are just amazing. I so sorely miss Roberta and his personality, smiles and laughter. More especially he always recommended dishes that were never on the menu. RIP Roberta you will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
I love if here. Warm, friendly and good food. It's the neighborhoods Italian go to place. Everything is delicious but my favourites are the grilled chicken breast bed vegetables or the salmon pasta. Yummy!

Polpetta is the neighbourhood pizza place, that everyone loves. Their pizza's and pasta's are fantastic, but nothing beats their house salad- it's that dressing!!! I would highly recommend the Gorgonzola and Tomato focaccia and the house salad to share! #zomatovalentine

These days, there are a lot of Italian places around to choose from, but Polpetta has and still is one of my favourites. The food just tastes good and the place is always busy.

Pretty relaxed little place with fantastic pizza. The vibe is pretty cool with people chatting jovially as if they weren't in the middle of one of the busiest neighbourhoods in the city. The management is also very friendly, and once when we ere waiting for our take-away (yes, the do take aways!) the manager(owner?) came up to us and offered us a couple of beers for free. I'm not saying that you can win me over by giving me free beer, but you can definitely win me over by giving me free beer. Awesome place. Would recommend.

This is one of the best Italian restaurants around Rivonia/Sandton side (I am obsessed with their house salad). The quality of the food at Polpetta is consistent. A great spot to have dinner or grab some pizza during lunch. Their veal lamb chops are a must! Enjoy!!

A genuine Italian restaurant with an Italian owner who has been present each time I have been there. The food is great - their signature Polpetta pasta and pizza are delicious. The atmosphere is buzzing and homely, just the way an Italian restaurant should be. The restaurant is generally full so I recommend booking beforehand to avoid the disappointment of not getting a table.

Polpetta is one of the few Italian restaurants left in Joburg that are truly Italian in every sense of the word. Their menu is superb with all the classic Italian dishes and their pizzas are crispy and delicious. One of the best pizzas I’ve had in a while. They are reasonably priced and the portions are generous. The service was outstanding our waiter, Patience, was wonderful she was friendly and attentive.

Booking is essential, no matter what night of the week it is they are busy, and I absolutely love that about a restaurant.

Now onto the food.

For starters we ordered the House Salad for the table- their salad dressing is to die for (they are famous for it), but they charge R100,00 for a “green salad” with some egg and avo, quite expensive but delish nonetheless. We also ordered a focaccia, thin, crispy and perfectly flavoured, also a must try.

Then for mains I chose the Del Sole pizza- it had Italian sausage, sun dried tomatoes, chilli, garlic and avo on it. I always order a pizza with a bit less cheese and for it to be well done (I’m a sucker for the burnt bits). It really was incredible, the ingredients were so fresh and the sausage was so flavoursome, it definitely has some fennel seeds in them.

My boyfriend ordered the Ivano pizza- it was okay, the fillet was a bit overdone, so it looked slightly grey and they put way to much cheese; it definitely needed some kind of zing, possibly some balsamic vinegar, so not the best pizza. Others at the table order absolutely divine pastas: The Rostitti with extra anchovies, the Roberto and the Fruitti di Mare were all fabulous.

It was a memorable eating experience and I am sure to be back.

Just simple one of the best Italian restaurants in the area. The service and food is amazing. The owners virtually know every customer in the restaurant. Well done guys we had a great time last night
.

When it comes to italian. Polpeta delivers. Not your truly Italian location but has a good vibe and great service.

What got me was their salads...Really good. And that says a lot since salads are really not on my radar.

Desert though is subliminal, and that says a lot coming from the savoury king

The pizza's are fantastic and the vibe is warm and welcoming. The service was exceptional. I particularly enjoy the arrosto, pollo, quattro formaggi and polpette pizzas.

Absolutely delicious pasta and salad with interesting combinations. They also have gluten free pasta for not much extra which is great. There is a great vibe here and consistently good food too.
