Review Rock Cod - Roodepoort

Henriette Catharina Erasmus
From the moment I stepped into Rock Cod, the relaxed atmosphere enveloped me, providing an immediate sense of ease. The establishment boasts beautiful seating options, both indoors and outdoors, catering to every diner's preference. But it's not just the ambiance that stands out; the food is truly exceptional. Each dish is a testament to the chef's expertise and passion. And for those who appreciate a fine drink, this is undeniably the place to go for the best gin around. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience!

Speak to David. My father can't walk too well, and David assisted beyond. The atmosphere here is so chill and relaxed. Fantastic place to take the whole family for a good meal in the evening. Had the special being 10 queen prawns. The only bad part is I didn't take photos. My wife had Kingklip and it was like butter. David was on top of everything and made the evening fantastic. The service was lovely.

We had our work year end function there. The wait staff managed a room full with everyone being satisfied with a great meal. Compliments to the chef. A great rustic setting with several dining areas so the different groups of people present each had their own space. Some amazing model aircraft on display.

The restaurant has tons of outdoor seating in the garden, which is great for warm days. I didn't check what the inside of the place looked like though. There are chickens roaming the premises which is a quaint touch. The place is set up for large groups and families. I got there around 11.15am on Sunday, but found out they stop serving breakfast at 10.30am on weekends, which meant I could not try their breakfast menu. So be warned! I tried the battered fish and chips with a small side salad. The fish batter was crunchy and tasty, but the fish was quite bland. The chips were crispy and well seasoned. The small side salad was a very small basic Greek green salad. I am not sure if I would recommend this place as I was not able to try the food I actually wanted, but I do want to come back and try their breakfast at least once before I make any judgment

Rock Cod Cottage is a little bit of countryside in the city. * There are three dining areas: The more formal, beautifully decorated indoor dining area. The less formal porch (with a few private porch areas for larger groups). The patio area under umbrellas and trees over looking the garden where the children's play area is. (Ducks. roosters and chickens add to the atmosphere as they roam freely around the garden and the patio area). * The waitron staff attending our table were attentive, very personable and knowledgeable regarding the food and portion sizes. * We ordered 3 different dishes - Stuffed Trout, Norwegian Salmon and the Sunday Lunch. Our food was simply delicious, and beautifully presented. (The Sunday Lunch was a set 3 course meal. A starter, mains and dessert.) * Wine list isn't extensive, however cover a good range, with wine that would pair with all their dishes. * Rock Cod Cottage is possibly a bit more expensive than some restaurants, but well worth it. (Mains priced from around R150 up.) * Rock Cod Cottage is well suited to families, couples, solo dining and groups. * Weekends can be quite busy, so advisable to make reservations. * We would certainly go there again. * There is also a lovely little plant nursery on site

Lovely venue. The food is amazing. The waiters could be faster. The kids' area definitely needs work.

Had a Xmas get-together there. Beautiful environment. Liked the private "rooms". A number of lunches happening - but you did not even notice. And food amazing.

First class food, nice unpretentious restaurant. No complaints except that I don't like poultry wandering around the dining areas.

Absolute gem! The food is great and the atmosphere sitting in the garden on a summer evening is exquisite! It might be a bit hidden, but might be one of the best hidden gems in the he Westrand! The Calamari was tender and the Millionaire salad was to die for!!!!

Really nice place to dine, decent play area for the kids, who can really enjoy themselves while the parents are dining. Portions are decent, food does take a bit to come out, but the restaurant is always very busy. Very large selection on menu, almost to much, from pizza and pasta to steak, eisbein, poultry and seafood.. Worth a visit for sure!

Lovely country place to relax and eat. Good food and love all the feathered farm yard friends. From cheeky roosters to beautiful white doves, geese and peacocks.

We enjoyed a super, casual, late lunch in the beautiful gardens of this stunning property yesterday! We have frequented Rock Cod at Featherbrooke Village over the years! The food has always been delicious and the standard and quality, consistent! It’s always great to be welcomed back by the same members of staff!! We would like to wish Deon and his team every success in their new premises - it’s beautiful now, can’t wait to see the gardens in summer! Good luck!!

Simply beautiful surroundings. The fantastic service and style that Deon Claassen has established his name on and not to mention the delicious food! Highly recommended for families with children as there is a safe space with children entertainment - perfect for moms and dads to be able to relax.

This is our favourite place to go (both the old and the new Rock Cod), you will find us there regularly. Food is brilliant, Deon and Teresa are stunning hosts and we love the staff (by the way they know exactly what we want before we even asks, that is how many times we visit Rock Cod weekly). Please support Deon and Teresa at 560 Hole-in-One Avenue, Ruimsig, 011 958 2434.
