Review The Baxter Restaurant - Rondebosch

What an outstanding dining experience this turned out to be! Our server Thabile truly went above and beyond to ensure we had the best dining experience possible. The atmosphere was very laid-back, with great music. The food was incredibly amazing, especially the Chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection! The bone marrow was delicious, and the sides delicious! We also had multiple desserts, which we truly enjoyed. The creme Brule was really good, and the bottles of wine really food! I highly recommend going there for dinner!

Love the setup and decor, very cozy and romantic. Service was top notch even though there were 1 or 2 hiccups it was rectified without hesitation or us as a customer having to say anything. Absolutely loved it. Their Cheesecake is FANTASTIC 😍. Highly recommended their Boerie starter.

Tuesday 'date' night special. I don't know how the Hussar afford to do this and still deliver incredible quality and excellent service. Not photos due to amazing company. But absolutely totally worth it.

It's a very chilled place to dine at. I find it very small though, hence there is no space to hang around freely. I loved 😍 their spicy chicken livers! Would wish for the service to be faster. The waiters provide a very good service though. My veges were more boiled than roasted, I didn't like it.

Celebrated my birthday there yesterday. We didnt have a reservation but they made a plan for us, so thankful for that. The food, the services the ambiance, the prices, the portion 10/10. Thank you so much to the team for taking care of us from the moment we entered till we left 👏

Having being a patron on & off since the early 1970's it's disappointing to see how the cuts of steak no longer look like a particular cut. A rump is a rounded cut with an amount of fat from the eye of the rump. Now one receives a lump of meat, extremely tasty, but certainly not resembling a rump at all. My guest received two separate pieces of meat. Obviously to serve a rump of old would be prohibitively expensive so times have changed. One would be better served to buy a rump at a butcher & cook it at home. Obviously that Steakhouse atmosphere will be missed. Noticeably the portions of chips, bernaise sauce are smaller. Service and ambiance still impeccable.

The atmosphere was unmatched, the waiter was super friendly and made the date that much more enjoyable. Steaks cooked to perfection every time! Will be paying another visit soon😁

We were a noisy table of 6, who walked to Hussar after an early event at Baxter. We were served by Luke, who was a lovely young man with a good sense of humor as the guys did rag him a bit. All our meals (4 steaks, 1 lamb chops, and 1 Kingklip) were well prepared, and only the one dish was brought to the table without the flambé element, which did impact the dish. We received a few glaring stares from one table who clearly didn't appreciate our laughter. But other than that, it was a lovely evening. The restaurant is very cozy, so a booking, especially on weekends, would be recommended.

Smaller Hussar than other branches I have visited but just as loverly atmosphere. Very much old school steak house look and feel. Our waiter (I think his name was Hein) was still in training but very attentive and I do think he will do well growing quickly in the industry. Always great to see someone with the confidence to double check an order instead of guessing and potentially getting it wrong. All of our steaks were perfectly cooked and chips were crispy with generous portions. The complementary Chocolate vodka is always a hit and gave our night a good end. Well done Ronderbosch!

Popped in after a play atthe baxter. Open until eleven pm.i had the filet steak on the bone with truffle and mushroom butter. Wow! So delicious and perfectly cooked. The other 3 in our party lived whatever they had. Also steaks of varying kinds. Highly recommend.

Really great restaurant. Welcoming, south African steakhouse style, best steaks in town (voted 2011 &2012), creative variety of sauces, sides and starters. Best of all: The service! Josh was our waiter and did an outstanding job. Highly recommended

Food was very good. Steak a bit rarer than requested but they promptly fixed it. Accommodating to our large party which included a toddler.

Maharaj is a good place for affordable Indian food. They have a great variety that really makes one appreciate how much can be done without meat. That coupled with the fact that they serve reasonably big portions for very low prices makes this a very nice spot.
But If you hope to sit down here then look for somewhere else. The restaurant is small ad cramped. It's best to order here and take your food somewhere comfortable.
Bonus tip to UCT students, they take emergency vouchers here.

I remember visiting to watch shows and also being on stage performing so the Baxter holds lots of memories for me! Most recently, I saw a comedy show with a friend and we both bought drinks here during the interval. The restaurant is situated conveniently and offers plenty of food and drink options for guests to enjoy before or after a show. The servers are usually friendly too!

Service was very friendly and the food was tasty BUT we both got stomach problems right afterwards. Therefore I can not recommend this restaurant.

29/5/17

one of these days we're going to morph into one person. she'll be medium height and chai coloured in complexion and big-breasted. we've already named her.

but for now we're talking in Ari Sitas voice about squirrels and Steve Jobs. we're understanding mercury on full moon nights and seeing our favourite comedians at The Baxter. R80 was excellent value-for-money for a pre-show dinner of hearty paneer and dahl, and the option of endless plates of it. the meal was as filling as your company, as our gushing about the places we'd like to go: Iran and Sri Lanka and the edge of the world.

i had this fantasy a couple of years ago of what my ideal self would be like. i hoped that she'd have the courage, quietly in the middle of night, to leave for a trip to Japan for a month or so. no one would have known of her plans. they'd only see a Facebook update a couple of days later of her before a Kyoto temple, or against the backdrop of Mount Fuji.

the fantasy remains. but now she'd like to have people to send postcards to; someone like you. and i know you may leave this city, but for now you are an atlas worth of discoveries and experiences to me, as we explore the alleyways of your friendship in foreign tongues. for now you'd be my favourite person to morph into.

Eating dinner at the Majarajah before a show at the Baxter is a great experience. One can't judge them on atmosphere; there's nothing they can do about that. But they make great food, and offer a really reasonable deal for self-service starters, mains and optional dessert. I'm not a big fan of soya mince, and sometimes some of their dishes are made with it, but other than that, I've enjoyed everything I've had there.

Just had a few drinks here before going to watch HASHTAG, by Marc Lottering. Unfortunately not the best experience, wine from the bar was watered down, and according to the staff, it's wasn't the first complaint regarding the same situation.

As a UCT Dance student, I'm always on Lower Campus & at The Baxter Theatre. I can always rely on this vegan restaurant for an exquisite cup of coffee & beautifully presented meal. Their buns are so fresh & good that I sometimes buy them separately to have at home.

The lunch buffet is value for money. There were no traditional Indian dishes but overall the menu was of good standard and there was certainly enough variety for R50.
