What an awesome restaurant. Old school charm, with Al doing the rounds and making you feel at home. Made my wife's birthday extra special Pricing was also very good and the food was top notch. Highly recommend.

Thanks to Lisa for exceptional service, and to a kitchen that kept 8 of us very happy. I didn't hear any negatives. Well done to Al and his team! Highly recommended

We went to Al"s Place for the first time for Dinner, and we had the Peri Peri Baby Chicken and the Ribs. Best Peri Peri Chicken I have had in a long time, and the Ribs were great, falling off the bone and the fries (chips) are the best we have ever had. Really glad we live close by, as Al"s Place will definitely be one of our regular choices to visit.

First time visiting, was very nice. The restaurant is very homely and comfy. Food was excellent, I had the beef burger avo and bacon was divine. Owner even comes around and chats to the guests. Definitely be back

The service and food were excellent. Vegetarian options are limited. Allen, the owner and chef, personally told us about the veg options and ingredients. We had the linguini with roast vegetables. The portion was generous and delicious. The meals are a bit pricey but worth it. Will go back.

Great local spot. Good food and nice atmosphere. Close to Rondebosch train station. Good for groups or a night out with family. Early bird specials offered before 7pm.

Real Italian hospitality accompanied by good food. Surprised few patrons, well worth a visit

Friendly and attentive service! We had a rump steak and the pork loin ribs, and both were cooked to perfection. Very tasty and good portion sizes. The baked cheesecake for dessert also hit the spot. Will definitely go back!

Food always perfectly cooked and delicious. The chips are divine. Friendly hosts

Loved finding this restaurant. Minimalist look, with great food. Fresh fish and melt in the mouth calamari. The only letdown is dessert - the cheesecake portion was tiny and tasteless.

Great impromptu dinner at Al’s place tonight. Superb meaty ribs and a sweet ending with a perfectly set crème brûle with a berry coulis twist. Topped by personable and attentive service from Alex and fun and fantastic conversation with Al. Made Monday night dinner feel like a Friday!

The first time I was there was last weekend during my friend's birthday. Amazing staff. The manager is quite funny too. 🌤️

Al's just opened up near me, in 2nd Avenue. According to their menu the ribs are famous. I haven't had good pork ribs in years. These lived up to the hype. They even taste good the next day, after being microwaved. WHAT. Go eat them you won't be sorry. Great staff and Al was lovely too.

Food was reasonably priced and good. Rib and fish was tasty, not over or under cooked and my friend actually commended them on the kabeljou preparation. Owners and staff are very professional and friendly and got personal attention from the owner, who is obviously well travelled and very experienced.

Although this restaurant is not as busy as it used to be, Al still gives excellent service. Very friendly guy who loves to chat up a storm with his regular customers. Food is served within 10 minutes and it is deliciously fresh. Lovely atmosphere with music or you can watch the sports channel on tv. Highly recommend Al's Place for a nice dinner.

Had my 21st here, and it was so epic! I had never had a meal here and was told to trust the steak blindly and I did...and would recommend it any day! Veggies were just superb! Loved the service here as well, the team here is amazing. It feels like my little secret restaurant hidden in Rondebosch where I'll run for beautiful chats and excellent meals. All my expectations were met and surpassed!

Always enjoy being there. We try to go there for a New Years eve dinner. Have not been there since Covid. Were back this year and it was like nothing had changed.

Al's place. Very friendly welcome. Cosy place We started with a mixture of a seafood platter. Very tasty. I had spare ribs which were soft and succulent. My friends had the sirloin with blue cheese sauce. The owner was on hand to check that we were satisfied and the waitress was charming. All in all... Very good

Had a family dinner at Al's Place Rondebosch last night. Our first visit there after reading many excellent reviews. On arrival we were greeted by Alan, the owner and a very friendly waitress. We were made to feel very welcome and Alan frequently attended to us and chatted. The food was excellent with taste and presentation outstanding. So glad we discovered this gem of a family restaurant. Will definitely make this a regular place to visit.

At Al's Place Restaurant celebrating our friend Carmen's birthday on Saturday. It was an awesome night and venue. Food was excellent and music was a trip down memory lane, with golden oldies. Well worth a visit!

In and out, starters, mains and a desert in a record time and no problems with quality of food.

I loved it because the manager person doesn't judge me for being a black man in a tweed jacket

We were at Als for Xmas in July...we were a table of 14...the food and the service were outstanding...Al is so hands on...we will be back....

I visited the restaurant to take advantage of a special on their meals (burgers). The staff and friendly and the food was great for the price. A definitive little gem to go for great food and great vibes.

On our 8th wedding anniversary in late October we visited Al's restaurant before a theatre show and we immediately felt at home as we stepped over the threshold. Lee Ann as well as Al himself warmly welcomed us. The service was impeccable, the food delicious and we even met folks who were there that night as well as the chefs. Cannot wait to go back on 1st Dec 2018 to kick off the silly season.

Delicious food and wonderful, friendly atmosphere!A wonderful restaurant with great service:) We had scrumptious pasta and good red wine. Can't wait to go back and try their prawns and steak.

Food very average, I particularly had a poor meal, ordered a 300g sirloin which was no bigger than my wife's 200g, but it was overdone and drowned in a barbecue basting.

Wouldn't rush back!

Really great place! Food is consistently good and the menu has really good variety. The service is excellent, really friendly, hands on and personal. Great place for quiet dinner with the family, and the price is very good.

Quick meal required early evening before picking up the boys, so we popped in to this regular favorite of our Rondebosch friends. Didn't disappoint.

Al was on hand, assured us that anything on the menu would be quick, and suggested the special: sirloin steak, chips, and vegetables. He also offered red wine by the glass, and we went with an unknown Shiraz that was absolutely fine.

Steaks were perfectly cooked to rare and medium rare request, chips were good, and vegetables a pretty standard butternut and spinach. All in all we enjoyed an exceptionally quick turnaround, at an unbelievably good rate (180g sirloin, chips, and veggies for under R100). Perfect for busy parents, on a week night.

What a disgrace of an restaurant! Came there with my family for a good Dinner just to be told that I have to keep my 1 year old quiet as she is disturbing the other customers evening. The day before going there I called in advanced for a reservation. I spoke to Alan which is the owner and asked him if his establishment is child friendly and he insured me that it was. When I arrived with our two kids, parents and fiancè to a cold, very gloomy and unpleasant atmosphere. Like it's a place for stuck up old people. The service was poor and the waitress could barely manage with her 10+ tables that she had to serve while being shouted at in front of customers by the owner Alan Tavares, she shouted back at him. The waitress then came to my fiancè and asked her to keep my daughter quiet however my daughter was not being rowdy or crying, she was being a child wanting to play. The waitress then asked if we could sit outside with out two small kids in the cold and eat there as they would put a table outside for us. Then we spoke to the owner and he said that we must understand that his regulars wants to leave because of our baby. All we wanted was a good, fun filled, family evening and chose Al's Place. Disgusted at what we experienced there and treated like we were less than those "regulars". We then paid for our starters and drinks with out being rude or disrespectful but certainly hurt and utterly disappointed and would advice families with playful loving children to never go there.

Such a hidden gem in the heart of Rondebosch! I went to Al's Place to check it out, it's a typical owner run business with lots passion. I had the bacon & avo burger, it was not gourmet style however you could feel the love in that home-made burger, it was tasty and worth it, the patty was juicy and just right - money well spent I must say! The vibe was great and the waitress was very attentive with a smile :) They have live music now and again, I'll definitely return to check it out - highly recommended if you have never been!

I had the steak and salad which I was very pleased with. The steak was tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was as juicy and flavoursome as I had hoped it would be. You just cannot beat a well cooked and basted char grilled steak!

Hidden gem in Rondebosch. Great Ambience, the owner Al is very sweet and great with customers! Food was great, we had pizza and steak. The steak was cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back

Right, so we walked past Al's a few weeks ago on our way to another restaurant nearby and we agreed that it wasn't the sort of place we'd try. It just looked a bit shabby from the outside. But then I saw so many good reviews on the CT Restaurants FB page that we thought we'd give it a chance. Well we weren't disappointed. A very basic restaurant but with a charm I can't put my finger on. We had duck, ribs and calamari.....good quality, honest and beautifully cooked. The service was warm and friendly. And Al came over at least twice to check on us. If you feel like eating well without the flounce and fancy, try this place. You're sure to leave with a smile on your face.

I love trying the smaller hidden gems,
This diamond was for sure a good find?
Everything from the pizzas to the steak, everything was very good, Als has in by 5 out by 7 special, you will be mighty impressed once you visit Als.
We will for sure be back.👍🏾

Surprised to have found Al's tucked away after having lived in Rondebosch for a number of years (even though it's a well-established restaurant) we had an overall good experience. The ambience is friendly, but I suggest ordering something they recommend for example the ribs, which is what I had. The duck was not fabulous, ordered by others with us.

What a fantastic XMas in July dinner at Al's!! The food was excellent and service was excellent given the restaurant was fully booked!! We even got little XMas gifts!!

We were invited to the restaurant to celebrate a 70th birthday and I was not quite sure what to expect.

The venue itself is quite small but cosy and the staff were friendly and attentative. The starter lacked a bit juat in terms of it being visually appealing but it was yummy despite that. I had a sirloin steak with chips and veg. Not bad at all.

As a celebration venue it worked quite well - even had space for an Elvis impersonator to join in later in the evening. Not sure about how it would be normally but I was quite satisfied with the evening.
