Review Cargill's - Rondebosch

Andy Bytheway
We were recommended to Cargill's by a friend and had the pre-theatre menu at 6pm. That gives you a choice of two courses from a short list of starters, mains and desserts. Service was prompt, thoughtful & careful, and we made it to our concert with plenty of time in hand. The food was delicious and there is an excellent range of wine from the basic to the luxurious. The sorbet between courses was a very nice touch. Highly recommended - this is a compact but very worthwhile restaurant. Quite equal to the best we have ever eaten in in Cape Town.

This is the BEST restaurant in Cape Town. It's small, rather intimate, and the owner Josh prepares all the food meticulously. All his ingredients are fresh and obtained from the best sources. Hope he stays around for long!

We only recently discovered this gem. And have been back twice within a week! Food was excellent, the table service personal and pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. More than just a Restaurant, an entertaining and pleasant experience.

A difficult one to find, probably best kept secret in the area. Only a few tables and very honest food. Owner Chef is present and wonderful to chat to. We will definitely be back and recommend to all!

This is one of my favourite places on the planet. Everything about it makes me happy. The food is so delicious. Classic French made with exceptional quality ingredients. Closest I've come to feeling like I'm in a French bistro in South Africa. The waiter and chef are so welcoming. Always an amazing experience. Cargill's rating on here is wrong. All the reviews are 4.5 or above. Something is sketchy...

A hidden gem in Cape Town. The chef seems to personally ensure every meal is up to standard, and absolutely delicious. Cargill's is a small restaurant with a personal touch. Well worth every cent.

I probably wouldn’t have found this restaurant if it weren’t for my friend and I am so happy I did. Talking about hidden gems! This is definitely a big one…well, big is actually the wrong word. This place is tiny, it’s like sitting in your parents dining room. It’s so cosy with all kinds of paintings on the wall and a big heavy curtain closing the entrance. It’s really one of those restaurants where you instantly feel at home: when walking by the kitchen to go to the bathroom I had a chat with the chef who explained how best to cook duck – very friendly and warm. <br/><br/>Now on to the food: I had the prawn bisque for starters which wasn’t on the menu that night but the chef made an exception – it was delicious! I wouldn’t mind a bit more spice in it but very tasty. My one friend had a salmon and avo salad, lovely and fresh, the asparagus, such a classic and the other friend had the best starter: the camembert in phyllo pastry – I was blown away by the taste and will choose this next time. <br/>For mains I had the duck and my friends had the fish and the other the steak. The duck legs were luscious and they had been cooked in their own fat to perfection. My friend who had the fish said it was the best fish he had tasted but I was so preoccupied with my own plate that I didn’t get a chance to taste, next time! For dessert we had the crème brulee and the chocolate torte, the chocolate was one of those where the warm choc just seeps out, so good! <br/><br/>The wine is excellent and we even got to try a bottle which is a limited edition; only 1000 get made. The chef had opened it to try and wanted to share a glass with us.<br/><br/>You can rent Cargill’s for a private event for about 30 people, I think that’s an excellent birthday or anniversary idea. Next time I want a fancy, yet comfortable night out, find me here.

Cargill's "AMAZING RESTAURANT "<br/>The Restaurant is located in a quaint old house opposite the Rondebosch Station. The restaurant is small so advisable to book.<br/>The food is amazing and very well priced.<br/>Staff were all very friendly. I will be back on my next visit

Wow, wow, wow. This place is the definition of a hidden gem. (We almost couldn't find it, and it's practically right on our doorstep!) We had a lovely meal here. The restaurant is small, homely, and slightly outdated, but that doesn't seem to matter, because the food and service is simply outstanding. There was only one waiter, but she handled all 8 tables without an issue. The chef is fabulous, and gave us attention on several occasions, coming to ask whether we were enjoying the meal, providing recommendations and offering his specialities that were not on the menu (Camembert Crème Brule!). You'll go a far way to beat this one in terms of really good attention to customer service and satisfaction. Thumbs up! We will be back soon.

Wonderful intimate environment, both the starter (mushrooms in pastry ) and my main meal of pork belly were out of this world! If I could give this place 6 stars out of 5 I would. Definitely returning.

We had an exceptional meal on 18 December 2014. It was a pre-wedding dinner for 13 people. The experience was perfect in every way - superb food (lovely menu and well prepared and presented), great ambience, beautiful table and last but not least excellent discrete but attentive service. Five stars!!!! Stewart Stiles

Love going to Cargill's. Love the food (especially the little extras between courses); love the quaintness; love the friendly service (especially the personal touch of having the chef come out and say hi). Also love that the staff take time off (even if it does mean not being able to go there whenever's convenient for me) – very humane! One of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town!
