Food is super great and not badly priced at all. Good place, clean. Will make it a regular place

Authentic Chinese food and generous portions!

This was our first time at Zung Lok and our overall experience was positive. The spring rolls were great and the sizzling chicken was also top notch. We had the pork rib with garlic which was mixed - some of the pieces were good while others were a bit tough. It's not the cheapest and and R58 for egg fried rice I can see why some people complain about the pricing. It was also pretty quiet but it was a Thursday night. Overall - we will go back again.

Friday evenings are very quiet at this restaurant. We had the set menu starting with the Chicken Corn Soup and Hot Spicy Soup, then each had the Chicken Springrolls followed by the Sweet & Sour Pork and Crispy Beef. Finished off with Chinese Tea. I found the Hot Spicy Soup a bit hot while my wife enjoyed the Chicken Corn Soup. We enjoyed the main course. We would go back again

Average restaurant with average food. Probably won't return here. Service ok. Staff should learn about the dishes so they could actually recommend some of them🙄 Takeaways poorly packaged. Atmosphere in restaurant is quite drab- almost depressing.

We popped in here for a quick bite on Friday night, having never tried this spot before although having meant to many times. Well, let me just say that they won't be seeing me again. My chicken with cashew nuts was terrible. No Chinese veggies in sight but instead some thinly sliced chicken served on a bed of diced cucumber and diced carrots. I counted exactly 6 cashew nuts. This dish cost nearly R100 and came with nothing else so I ordered some noodles to go with my food. When the bill arrived, the noodles were charged at just under R60 for a portion of plain noodles! I told the waiter that that was ridiculous and just much too expensive and he agreed, and actually finished my sentence for me like he had heard this before. My hubby had crispy fried beef which came with rice and which was pretty good. Another pet hate of mine is when waiters start clearing away all the tables and chairs while you are still sitting eating. So, we were left out on the patio with everything packed away and only our table left on the patio and this was before 9pm on a Friday night. This place is no good, don't bother. Very expensive, not genuine Chinese as my dish proved and an owner who can't wait to go home. We won't be returning.

In my opinion this restaurant has the best chinese food I've ever eaten in johannesburg. They offer what I think is a close to silver service style experience with the table settings. But the waiters are a lot more relaxed than silver service which I like. The menu co ers anything and everything when you feel like great chinese food. I highly recommend this place to experience what really good chinese food is all about. Definitely do their salt and pepper calamari.

One of the better Chinese restaurants in jhb. The restaurant is nice and big, with VIP rooms for private functions. Prices are decent and food is authentic. Did not have any bad dishes here ever. Service might need some touching up but very well rounded place.

You won't find a cleaner Chinese restaurant than Zung Lok. It is spacious with non-tacky decor. You can find both authentic and westernized items on the menu. Service is quick and we hardly had to wait at all between courses. The best is the great value for money. It cost around R100 per person to feed a party of 10 including drinks... and he food was great. I recommend the crispy beef, pork ribs with garlic and the deep fried buns with condensed milk.

Yawn!! Like really yawn🙄.. I needn't say more! The place was empty but the service was awfully slow. Orders gotten wrong, and well the wait even longer! Food is pretty good but with that type of service 👎🏾👎🏾

This restaurant caters to buses of tourists. Not repeat business. STAY AWAY. I live closeby and was excited by a new venue opening up. I have tried it more than once and so have my neighbors.

Overpriced, mass produced food made for hungry tourists who will never return.

This place is great. Whether you have a sit down meal or takeaways.

The Peking duck is to die for. And so is the steamed buns and the deep fried buns with condensed milk. The best noodle dish I have ever had was the Singapore fried rice noodles. So tasty and fresh.

I have never had something I didn't like. I will definitely be back with all my family and friends :)

I've been here about three times and each time I've tried something new on the menu- and I have not been disappointed. The food is authentic and the service is good.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is better than most other Chinese restaurants in the area. It also is a little more expensive but there's nothing wrong with paying a little extra if it's worth it.

There is a variety of authentic Chinese dishes which will satisfy any craving for Chinese food that you may have. While the food is very tasty, I did find that the chef was a bit heavy handed with the salt.

Authentic food... so unbelievably wonderful to find an Asian restaurant that serves the real flavours. Assorted vegetables which give the palette a feast of flavour and texture. A definite destination for those who seek a real experience.

A warm welcoming venue that offers authentic Chinese food. Takeaway menu offers run of the mill Chinese fair but for the real taste order off the main menu. Seasoning and flavoring was lighter than expected but the food quality was great. Will go back

A hidden gem in Joburg. I was fortunate enough to attend this restaurant for my father in law's birthday. It was incredible! The environment was beautiful, the food was exquisite and the service was incredible. I love that it is not your typical westernized Asian restaurant, but it includes mostly authentic food!

What a lovely restaurant. Was invited by my Taiwanese friends. It was an unforgettable experience. The food kept on coming and each dish better than the previous. Love the crushed peanuts with beef and steam buns.. o gosh I loved everything. Highly recommended.

My friends and I have a dinner club and decided to try this restaurant out, although the food was very good and we were able to try some new things, we were quite uncomfortable to find out that the restaurant does not allow their staff to accept tips. In fact while we were paying, the manageress suddenly took more interest in us and it felt as if we were being watched for any covert tipping.

This is a pity since the staff were very efficient and friendly. I am not certain we'll be going back.

If you're looking for good Chinese food and a great experience, head over to Zung Lok! We go for our standard Crispy Beef and rice (the best I've found in Jhb!!), however, for a truly authentic experience, allow the "lady-boss" (hostess) to pick your meal for you! She'll ask you a couple of questions (like what don't you eat), and then wait to be surprised!

The best way to judge a Chinese restaurant, in my opinion, is to observe how many Chinese people eat there! Go on a Sunday and you'll struggle to get a table!

Yum!

My group of friends organized to have dinner here on the eve of Good Friday.

I was the last to arrive but when I did, the restaurant wasn't too busy at all.

The lady boss came and assisted us in her very enthusiastic manner to select dishes. We went for the "Asian style" of eating, ie selection of main dishes shared out among the 5 of us.

Despite the restaurant being not too busy, the 1st dish only arrived 15mins later. But with it, the subsequent dishes arrived in quick succession.

However, the general consensus among us was that the food wasn't up to par. There were 4 Asians and an English gent, who used to live in Asia at the table, and we know our Asian food and some of the dishes that we ordered that evening had a distinct Western twang to it (unfortunately!).

Don't get me wrong, I personally felt that the food was very tasty, just the style in which it is cooked is not what I (and my friends) are accustomed to.

At the end of the meal, the very chatty and friend lady-boss made an appearance at our table and enquired of our meal. She stayed for while and chatted with us, but because her Northern Mandarin accent was very thick, I could barely understand and keep up with her conversation, to my dismay and embarrassment!

Nevertheless, I felt that the evening was very pleasant as it is always nice to be out with close friends enjoying a meal.

This is a relatively new restaurant in a very competitive market. Just up the road in Rivonia itself, you will find yourself in Johannesburg's latest china town where both sides of Rivonia Boulevard are littered with Chinese restaurants. As is always the case, there is good and bad, but certainly a few good. That brings me to Zung Lok.A few months ago, soon after opening, we were attracted to the restaurant by its banner advertising, informing the public that they specialize in Peking Duck. As a huge fan of Peking Duck I took my extended family for a Sunday lunch with Peking Duck in mind. However, after ordering Peking Duck, we were informed that you need to order 2 days prior. I found that hard to believe since that is their "speciality". As we had all assembled for lunch anyway, we chose to say, and had a dreadful meal. I swore I would never go back, but unfortunately changed my mind yesterday and thought I should give them another chance as they were new on the block on our first meal. So, on to yesterday. As a precaution, I booked a table and asked if a Peking duck was available. I was n formed it was, so we arrived on time last night for our meal. On further investigation as to how e Peking Duck was to be served, we decided to change our mind and order alternative food. ( the reason was that they refused to serve us a whole duck and carve it, but rather serve us the skin, followed the remainder of the duck being chopped into prices along with the bones). We ordered Prawn fried rice for my daughter, chicken spring rolls, and as mains, the sizzling beef and pork belly for my wife and I. he spring rolls were as expected, out of a packet and deep fried. The rice was shocking. The prawns had not been cleaned, the peas still partly frozen and the rice certainly not fresh. With regards the mains, lets start with the pork belly:There is no description on the menu of how it is cooked, so we chose this dish on the accompanying picture of the dish, which showed tender pork belly with crisp skin in what looked like a sweet sort of basting. What arrived was boiled/steamed pork belly. Fair enough, that may be the way they cook it, but with no description on the menu, we expected to get something that looked at least related to the picture. I tried 1 piece and left the rest, as I'm not a fan of a slither of meat below a mass of un-rendered fat and un-cooked skin. Now not the sizzling beef. Have to give it to them, it did look like the picture on the menu to some degree. I wish I had just looked at it instead of actually tasting it, as it was tasteless. Boiled beef in over used oil with a scattering of uncooked peppers. No seasoning, in fact no taste at all.At that point my wife and I decided that was enough and we would rather go home and get something to eat.We asked the waiter to clear the plates, which he did. All food had virtually been untouched and left our table back to the kitchen. We then received our bill, which I paid in full, and tipped the waiter as his service had been ok.At some point I assumed either the manager or owner would have queried why all the food had been sent back, but as that haven't happened, I approached the manager who is the owners daughter. I told her of our experience, and she simply shrugged and said I'm sorry. I queried why she hadn't approached us to enquire on why the food was sent back, only to be told that its not her job to check if customers are happy but rather the job of the waiters. Crazy stuff!!! If I was working in my family business in such a competitive market, I would most certainly be concerned about my customers experience. Bottom line, go else where. If you like your Peking Duck and other good Chinese food, rather go to Oriental Fusion in Parkmore or the Red Chamber in Hyde Park.

Service was good amd sonwas the food. We were a table of about 10 people and was greeted with a friendly smile when we entered. We ordered our drinks and soon after ordered food for the table. The waitress was efficient and came to check in us regularly to make sure we were good with drinks and to make sure the food was ok. We had the deep fried ribs, soya sauce chicken, chinese spinach fried with ginger, deep fried prawns, steamed fish and more. I would go back and would definately like to try the brunch/tea. Will be back soon

Service was fantastic and the sweat and sour pork is great. But the portion size is smaller than other Chinese restaurants and thr price is higher.

Awesome taste! If you are craving for some good chinese food, this is the place to be. Best dish I would recommend is Roast Duck.

This restaurant is very close to where I'm living, the food is tasty and fresh, my kids like the sweet and sour prawn with egg fired rice, my favorite is the Peking duck. The owner is very friendly, I think it's the best Chinese food around, and nice to be there during the weekend.
