Review Adega - Rivonia

Bianca Brombin
We had a fantastic night out, restaurant is super warm with a beautiful fire place. Lovely staff, incredible food if you love prawns this is definitely the place to go! I’d recommended this to anyone looking for a nice night out! Thank you Adega for a great night.

What an amazing father's day special. You guys should consider doing this buffet on other occasions as well. The fact of the matter is that the food was really great service was acceptable due to them been that busy and atmosphere is always set well with kids playing inside the jungle gym area.

My second time at Adega and again the service is amazing.....the food is splendid!🔥🔥 definitely should try the food here. This is my go to restaurant now❤️

Best chicken I ever had. Nice restaurant but a bit fresh. There is a breeze through out the restaurant which makes it a bit unpleasant to stay.

The very best Oysters in Gauteng. Once again awesome food and good value for your money.

Prawns were delish! Service bit slow.. But was worth the wait! Oyster special during the week.. Defiantly a must to return!

The best food I’ve had in a very long time. The sushi and oysters were incredible and the prawns were perfectly cooked, also super generous with the portions, accompanied by some quality cocktails. It was a great atmosphere and great service. This is now officially my favourite restaurant.

Before visiting I had never had seafood before. The owner, Luis and the manager, Mike made the experience a truly unforgettable one. They recommended dishes, checked up on us and told us stories about some of the dishes we had. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I'll be visiting Adega soon. Would definitely recommend their prawns.

Easily the best restaurant to experience true Portuguese cuisine and hospitality. The seafood and wine options are excellent. The service is outstanding. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant has such a great ambience. Loved the sushi and prawns. The food is fresh and tasty. Highly recommended!!

Had a lovely dinner here last week, fresh sushi to start and then some delicious oysters! We shared prawns which were out of this world - some of the best I have ever had! My mother who is allergic to fish was offered tempura vegetables and a freshly made vegetable pasta, which she said was great. The venue is big but feels warm with a big central fireplace. Service was attentive but not suffocating. We enjoyed a gin cocktail and then a great MCC 🥂 Well worth a visit - I will be back for the prawns!

Excellent food with a great menu and wide variety to choose from. Great value for money. Nice and spacious - definitely don't feel cramped up. Very neat with friendly staff and Management. I would definitely recommend this place to others 👍🏻

The place is beautifully set up and such a nice quiet vibe. Ordered one of their seafood platters and the food was tasty and service was top notch. Will definitely go back and try other menu items. Items are not too badly priced especially for the quality of the food.

Sunday Seafood Buffet is amazing. Value for money exceptional and service staff are very efficient. We would recommend this Adega to anyone unlike some of the other branches where we received bad service.
Desiree Adams Bowden
Service and atmosphere was excellent thanks to our waiter bethuel and the manager for making our day extra special
Reuben Pillay
We tried the Purtassi menu....totally disappointed....the portions were the same as a starter portion. Very disappointed. The soya "curry".....was a disaster. Definitely NOT recommended.
Gail Morel
What an evening ... service..... Food..... location.....company...... 10 stars!!!!!
Raul Curado
Nice vibe with the LM Radio and the little stands selling different items. I regret not having had more oysters. Nice atmosphere. Good service with friendly staff
Lloyd Samigan
Reason for the rating, they have a special for full chicken at R109.00 but cannot share it amongst 2 people, can a person have a full chicken by themselves I think this is ridiculous by Adega RIVONIA
Sandy 'Haylock' Getsos
Amazing food, amazing ambiance, amazing service. Thank you
Juanita Reddy
We ordered the lm style chicken, it was really dry and the chicken was quite hard. Very disappointed
Susie de Gouveia
The food was awesone; service great and the atmosphere magnificent. Thank you you for making my husband's 50th dinner memorable.

What was supposed to be a lovely family dinner ended with a bitter taste in the mouth. Our party included a 1 year old. Because of that we booked at 5pm to finish earlier in the evening. Let's not forget that we went to a FAMILY restaurant and we paid our bill so we were entitled to the experience. We were approached by a manager/waiter and told that the baby was making a noise and causing a disturbance. Very sad that patrons could not understand that she a baby. Yes they also have the right to enjoy their evening but for goodness sake, she is a 1 year old. Be the adult. The food and service was on par but this experience spoilt the evening. Pity about that. Been there before this evening and it was always a good experience.

Christmas function for Forty people. Well worth the price. Food was delicious. Staff very accommodating. Table layout was good. I highly recommend this venue. Carl is super accommodating and very pleasant . Well done Adega Rivonia! We will be back

Recently visited Adega with my family. The service was friendly, we were quickly seated and the restaurant was warm and cosy. We ordered the 1kg prawn special and the chicken special with chips, in Mild and Pedi Peri. The flavours were spot on, we all throughly enjoyed our meals with even my 4 year old niece asking for another "juicy one". Really satisfying dinner! Will be back. Thank you!

Went here with a friend for there birthday and i found this restaurant to be nicely laid out and staff very friendly. The food was of a good standard.

Service is extremely bad, manager does not know how to run the place, every single occasion experienced bad service complained many times but keep going back because of the food

Best wings and ribs ever, and what a gorgeous restaurant. Its been a while since I've eaten out and thoroughly enjoyed every single bite. I didn't want it to end. There Chicken ae out of this world . Friendly staff and lovely décor. I am a regular.
Patrick Smith
What a friendly & quick waiter I got. Everything was on time and on point. my favourite would be the wings . Please keep it up Adega . You never disappoint.
Casandra
Overall a great Portuguese food experience. The food is really authentic and is very tasty and definitely has a that bite if you like your peri-peri and chilli. The menu has a great variety and will cater for more tastes.
Sandia Pillay
Its like a cheap canteen inside hard chairs. 1 dirty toilet. Friendly owners Husband & wife also waitress. Drinks selected limited couldn't get cola tonic or dry lemon. Food mediocre. My pizza blend crust hard steak looked dodgy black overcooked pieces. My friends prawns average. It's a fast food lunch place. I wont be back.

I’ve been a couple of times and have had no complaints on any of my visits. This visit i ordered the prawn pasta which is quite nice and the manager addresses all concerns quite swiftly as previously i had the seafood pasta and my clams had not opened upon seeing such he sent over a new dish as soon as the kitchen was able to whip it up
Deepesh Dayah
Absolutely disgusting service. Waited at the door for 10 minutes before someone could even greet. We were told that they were fully booked which is understandable. However trying to ask a question to the manager, he just walked away and ignored us blatantly and you could see that he heard us.<br/>Definitely not coming here again<br/>
Nikkie
I always enjoy a great meal here...Well especially oysters and a medium-rare steak 😍❤️🍽🥩🥗🍤.The food is not expensive at all, everything is reasonably priced 🥂

Had the special: 1kg ribs and 1kg queen prawns. Amazing value and fresh prawns! The combo easily feeds 4 people... the waiter was attentive, but be aware of automatic 10% tip added to the final bill.
Mayuri
Found my new Nandos!! Absolutely love the flavour of the chicken. I had it with the veggies (spinach and butternut) as well as creamy mash potatoes.

I've been to this Adega once or twice. We decided to go there for dinner the one evening during the week so it wasn't busy at all.<br/><br/>I decided to order the prawn special that came with 12 prawns, rice and chips. It was both delicious and good value for money.<br/><br/>For me, Adega is one of those restaurants that offers good, consistent food so you know what to expect. I was shocked to see that this particular branch has such a low rating as I've always had a good experience when I've been there!
Anelda Rischmuller
We’ve been going to Adegas for the last few years, loved the food and restaurant. Wanted to eat there on Friday night, but the tables outside were so dirty we walked away and went to Lucas. The last few times we where there we didn’t had a good experience either. Not going back, will rather support Lucas accross

Had dinner with my wife ordered the 500g ribs and the full chicken. Awesome awesome food ,service and quality. Great music a really great dinner spot.<br/><br/>This place is now our regular spot. Management and staff run a fantastic established this is true value for money, quality food and service at its best .<br/><br/>Very very very satisfied

The Wife and I decided on a last minute dinner and felt like some spicy chicken so off we went to Adega Rivonia. <br/><br/>We orders mussels in white wine sauce and asked for extra hot livers. Both were excellent and the livers were really spicy, just like we wanted. However the livers didn't come with any bread which was very odd. I had to ask for a roll... And I got a dinner roll not a Portuguese roll like I would expect from a Portuguese restaurant. The dinner rolls were dense and microwave heated (I assume). It wasn't a great roll.<br/><br/>For mains we ordered a extra hot chicken cut into 8 with chips and rice. Once again the chicken was perfect and extra spicy, the chips were good and the rice was ok. <br/><br/>But unfortunately we stayed for dessert, we order a chocolate mousse, chocolate brownie, a alcoholic coffee and a chocolate milkshake.<br/><br/>The mouse was not light and airy, it felt dense and was too sweet. The coffee had far too much alcohol to the point where it was too bitter to enjoy. The chocolate brownie was actually a chocolate cake... And not a very good chocolate cake at that. The milkshake was poor, it tasted watery and milky at the same time and was not enjoyable at all. <br/><br/>The dessert significantly tarnished an otherwise excellent meal. <br/><br/>Food - 4 (pre dessert), 3 (after dessert)<br/>Ambiance - 3 ( it's a nice restaurant, nothing exceptional, just nice)<br/>Service - 3 (staff could be more attentive)<br/><br/>Overall - 3<br/>

Had an outstanding prawn meal there tonight.<br/>Helping was generous and food was delicious.<br/>Service was also first class.<br/>This particular franchise has improved by leaps and bounds from my last visit.<br/><br/>Have been there a few more times since the above review. Each visit has been notable for both good food and excellent service. I reiterate my comment that this franchise has improved by leaps and bounds.<br/><br/>Would like to add one small criticism after a recent visit. <br/>Serving hot food on cold plates destroys a meal. Many SA eateries do this. It did spoil an outstanding meal backed up by excellent service from waitron Cross.

My family and I enjoy Portuguese food so we go to Adega frequently. We prefer going to the one in Rivonia because it is close to where we stay. On this particular occasion we were celebrating a birthday in the family so I called to make a reservation. We got there at 7 pm and were seated at the back of the restaurant. The waiter came by to take the orders for our drinks. The rest of the group came in a bit later and no one came to take orders from the rest of the group until we flagged a waiter at around 8 pm. We had to wait a while before someone finally came around and took our meal orders.  We had to wait close to an hour before our food arrived and even then the prawns were not properly cooked. The food came but there were no plates so we had no choice but use the side plates since it was late and everyone was hungry. It was a very disappointing and frustrating experience. To their merit, the food was good as usual but the service was sluggish and seriously off point.  We were serviced by 3 different waiters which meant there was no accountability. We spoke to the manager when there was a delay in getting our food which didn't make matters any better. Even though I enjoy their food, this experience will make me think twice before I go there again.

Fantastic service, absolutely delicious food and most relaxed vibe! Definitely one of my favourite spots to eat! Will be back for sure! Would recommend it to any one looking for delicious Portuguese food!

As usual this Porro restaurant lived beyond my expectations. Peri peri chicken , trinchado and delicious grilled Calamari was what we had . Great speedy service too !
Charlemagne Olivier
Very child friendly restaurant with a play area outside, with great value for money for the whole family.Situated conveniently to the highway.<br/>Prawns were very tasty :D
Food Man
Not worth your money. Sad as the restaurant itself seems to have loads of potential. Found the tables grimy and a few flies continued to trouble even when you skip tables. Food was decent though nothing to scream about
Kris Venables
Quality food. The owners are here personally making sure the food is perfect. The service is perfect and I recon a bargain for the price we are paying. Delicious food and relaxed atmosphere.
Sharima Bramannan
I find this adega in a strange location. However it does have a good set up, and very child friendly. My friend had the chicken and enjoyed it. I went with two starters...snails and tempura prawns. Both were average. Will definitely have the chicken next time.

After loving the Adega's in Midrand, we ventured out to this one. It has a similar feeling but the service was a little slow. <br/><br/>While the food was fine, it's not as good as their Midrand branch. I can't quite put my finger on it but there was something in the flavours that weren't quite the same. I have the prawn national, again it was fine but not as good as I had hoped for. I probably wouldn't rush back.
Shingai Mpinyuri
Went there for their Christmas lunch buffet because we didn't want the hassle of cooking Christmas lunch. <br/><br/>What an absolute diabolical mess. The menu looked exciting. But that was only on PAPER. There was no food items that were anything above average. They even managed to over cook the prawns. Which is supposed to be their signature. <br/><br/>Would never ever again venture into that or any other Adega. (First time in an Adega) We even decided to leave the restaurant hungry coz it was just too much effort to stomach the average food. <br/><br/>The service tho was not bad at all. The waiters all tried their best. Kudos to them. Unfortunately for them they were forced to peddle trinkets. Shame. <br/><br/>Definitely cooking next Christmas
Rui Roberto
9/10 experience, one of the best eateries in Rivonia and definitely on my favorites list. food was amazing and the friendly waiters and managers ensured that I would return. The entertainment  area was great for the kids we had with us.
FoodiewhippedSA
Did not have a great experience here. We had our year end function here and it was an absolute disaster. The order was majorly messed up. Waiters had no clue what he was doing. People's order did not arrive in time. Some of it was not properly cooked. We ordered desert , Don Pedro's and the waiter dropped it all over the table. Bad bad experience
Sesh
Adega for me is all about the spicy chicken and prawns. The spicy marinade and sauce is so yum and we always ask for extra basting. I don't go here for ambience and if service is good, its a plus. I love when they have the platter specials but do feel sides are limited on the 4 ppl meals. We do frequent this place often and on most occasions its fairly empty, I hear though the Sunday buffets brings in the crowd. They have a good cocktail and wine selection and with good company you can enjoy your time here.
Eve
I enjoy this branch of Adega  because its easy to get to from my house, and the parking is ample, Ive never not been able to get a table. Theres a kiddy play area as well which is very popular.<br/><br/>The food is great, I had an amazing platter for two but it was enough for 3 .<br/>Theres a lovely fire place and the waiters are always great and helpful.<br/><br/>I do not however enjoy the menu, the magazine style is annoying and cumbersome.
Letta Molefe
The food is amazing at a reasonable price. Always high quality. Prawn and chicken combo is always a winner! Service always great. A great weekend brunch spot.
Charmaine
First time coming here since the change of ownership and there is a significant improvement. Food is excellent and the horrible carpets are gone! Still room for improvement on the service though but on the whole a major improvement! Keep it up!
Graeme Dendy
Good food, pity about the tooth picks found in the bread rolls and then the starter. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Lucianrajah
Friendly staff (owner included) and a prime location. The restaurant is well laid out with ample seating and it's classic Adega, clean and neat. The oysters are fresh, prawns huge and chicken succulent and perfectly done. The only issue was the portion size of the sushi; the california rolls appeared to he haphazardly done and quite small. Other than that - it's great overall.
Theo Cheung
Came here on a Saturday evening. Not too busy. Perhaps just before pay day. So still book in case. They having a great special with R99 for 10 medium oysters. Very big and good... just needs to be iced for a little longer because it wasn't cold enough. Also have great prawns special. Prawns are above average. Good vibe.

So I went to Adega Rivonia on Friday afternoon (08/07) to meet with some friends for a late lunch/ early dinner...We decided to give them a chance since they have a new owner. Their rolls were fresh and warm, I actually dipped mine in that peri-peri sauce they give and it was really tasty. We ordered halloumi starters which was cooked to perfection and had a nice sweet-chill sauce with it, they were generous on the portion size too. For mains my one friend ordered the ribs of which I had a taste and I didn't expect them to be as good as they were! they were covered in a delicious sauce and there was plenty of meat on the bone. I had a Prawn combo which was seriously good!! the Prawns were cooked well, full of flavour and very meaty, definitely worth it. Below is a picture of my meal :-) I'll be going back again.
Let's Eat
We often order take out from Adega and never seem satisfied with out meals. Today we ordered and I am pretty sure they must have a new chef, things have gone from bad to worse. I can honestly say this is a sad moment for me. I used to work for Adega, was proud to work there, but clearly sticking to recipes and standards is not a priority for them.<br/><br/>Ok so today is the 03/08/2018 and I am once more faced with the same problem... From the moment we walked in we were told we can't sit at a big table...note the place is empty....we have been served by 5 different people and no clear waitor introducing themselves, who should I leave a tip with....then there is. Matter of consistency.. their is a clear different between the chefs and their shifts. I was here last week and the food was to die for delicious and today total opposite ...Adega Ravinia needs to work on their issues...one good note, the manager was very friendly
Jacquie Mullany
The prawns were apparently good. I ordered salmon sushi platter, when they came to bring all meals, that is when they thought it best to tell me there was no sushi. I ordered "trinchado" as others ate their meals, what I got was tough meat, gravy for sauce - it was not trinchado. Plus the jungle gym wasn't safe and unmonitored, as an FYI.
Ria Fraser @CityFlavours
Went for dinner and decided on a delicious bottle of white wine, tempura prawns and sushi. The food was average and quite pricey, but the service was good.<br/><br/>I did not enjoy the smoked salmon in the sushi as it was very smokey and had a lingering taste. I didn't have the seafood platter here, but had very good experiences at other branches, would perhaps recommend that rather than the sushi
Rene De Schouwer
My rating is minus 0 .<br/>Adega Rivonia has the audacity to add a tip on the bill of 20% !!! And then the tillslip states the total and has a line for... gratuity. Now they expect the unsuspecting customer to fill in another 10 % (probably) on this line, paying a percentage on top of the overcharged gratuity. <br/>This is very sneaky and unprofessional behaviour.<br/>No thank you very much. I will never set foot in any Adega any more, let alone tell my friends and all tourists to avoid this chain. <br/>Rene

Bought the quarter chicken and chips lunch time special from adega yesterday and I must say it was awesome. Never tasted chicken that good and the chips was just as good. Don't even think nandos can compare with their chicken and i love nandos.
Claire Wiggill
My biggest issue with Adega is their menu! Is this an awesome marketing idea or an epic fail! I found the magazine for a menu to be really annoying and all the advertising very irritating! But that's my personal view. Had a waiter who was training but tried his best and service wasn't bad. Had the calamari which was good and espatada was also good. Not excellent but decent.
Anandie
What a lovely Adega branch. We have had the prawns "pot" where they give you a big pot of prawns that is kept warm by candles. The calamari is absolutely fabulous and the steak is also always great. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. Some Sundays there is a buffet which isn't bad.
Lisa Pi
What is Portuguese about this place? They hardly have any Portuguese dishes (except the cod) unless one considers prawns and LM chicken to be the only Portuguese dishes. Chicken LM and prawns LM can be found almost anywhere. But anyway, we did not come here wanting Portuguese food, we know where to go for that, we just came here to try this place out.<br/><br/>I came here one evening with a friend, just after 8:30. We were rudely greeted, seated and then forgotten. The restaurant was not busy, and the waiters were standing around chatting. We asked for someone to come take our drinks order more than 3 times, nobody came and they just looked at me when I went up to them to ask the whole group if someone could please take our order. Blank stares... Dumb, blank stares. So rude.<br/>Went back to our table, got our stuff and left..<br/>However, before we left, we both went to the bathrooms. Disgusting, FILTHY. Yuk guys, Come on! <br/>Needless to say we didn't even use the bathrooms and ended up going next door to Luca's Pizzeria where the bathrooms are CLEAN, the staff friendly and food divine!
Dilna
Today was the last day of fasting so I spent the last lunch at adega and grudgingly ordered a veg pasta but it was really good and the waiters were very friendly! I will definitely be back for more.
Alison Mills
Went to Adega Rivonia this weekend after a long time. New management team in place.<br/>Sunday buffet was amazing and service was great.<br/>Owner and managers visible.<br/><br/>Interestingly they had live entertainment. The guy was great, what an unexpected treat.<br/>Will definitely be back
Angelique Pather
The chicken pasta was terrific. But the service was very bad. We had to shout for the waiters to attend to us and the store was empty. Imagine.
John Kearney
Absolutey shocking. Adega used to be a guarantee for good food and value for money. This new setup in Rivonia is terrible. The food was of a shocking quality and the service terrible. Bill paid by cash and the waiter 'forgot' to bring the change (there was more than 10% in the bill envelope). He was very sheepish when we asked for the change and it took him a while to go inside and find the change. Never assume all the change is yours, especially if it is way more than 10%. He's lucky he got a tip at all.
Deepak Kanjee
I've been to the Resturant a few times now . <br/>The service is lacking and very slow . <br/>The food is inconsistent always . From great to really bad . If the starters are great than the mains are bad or the other way round.<br/>We ordered grilled calamari and was not cooked well . Sent it back for reheating and and they never returned it . When we told the waiter that the calamari order had not come as yet and we had already eaten our mains , his response was Ja . A few bad apples spoiling that restaurant ....<br/><br/>The manager was sympathetic though and didn't charge us for the calamari .
Jared Murray
The food was not as good as I would have liked it is also very expensive and prices don't reflect meal size and for R29 there wasn't even a full tamoto it was daylight robbery
Bhavna Moti
We have been to Adega restaurants on previous occasions all over Jhb but this time we had a really bad experience. We were not offered bread unlike some of the other tables. Service was poor. Our food was cold. The mash was definitely synthetic mash from a packet - you could taste the flour in it. Overall disappointing experience. Didn't bother staying for dessert. Went to the Italian place next door instead.
Amy Lara Baxter
The centre is an odd stop for the restaurant, however we went there due to buying a few Groupons and the food was simply great! The cocktail menu is very large and very hard to choose from, but the ones I chose were great. The chicken we had, was the best chicken I have ever eaten and the prawns were delicious as well! The food standard was excellent! Will go again soon!
Saiyuri
I have been to many Adega restaurants with my family and we always enjoy the prawns and chicken. So when we bought a Groupon voucher for a meal here we were quite excited to go. We went this past Sunday and we had a very disappointing experience to say the least. We waited for almost 2 hours for our food to arrive, our waiter was missing 90% of the time. The restaurant was very busy, perhaps because it was the last weekend before the Groupon expired but that really is no excuse. <br/><br/>When our food finally did arrive, they got the order wrong plus we waited for another 20 min to get our side dishes (we had ordered extra veg and rice). The manager did try to help the situation, but his surly attitude was not very welcoming either. The waiter let slip that the reason our food was taking so long from the kitchen was because it was a Groupon. It boggles my mind when restaurant offers sub-par experience to Groupon patrons because the whole point is that you want them to see how fantastic you are so that they will return even if there is no special....Also plan appropriately - they must have known they had plenty outstanding groupons and the last day to use it would be THAT day.<br/><br/>We were so hungry, we just shoved the food in our mouths hence I have no photos to share, lol.<br/><br/>Anyway, will never do that again, lesson learned!

So this past Friday night was supposed to be a nice evening out with the girlfriend for some seafood and wine. However, this was by far the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant! Terrible! <br/><br/>So arrived there at about 7ish on Friday eve. We did not have a booking, but was more than willing to wait at the bar. But... no chairs to actually sit at the bar, so we ended up sitting at a reserved table and wanted to order a glass of wine while we wait. 3 waiters must have asked us what we wanted to drink, after waiting quite a while to served, but no one actually bringing us our drinks. Eventually they only brought my girlfriend's wine. They forgot about mine. A few minutes later we get a table. But oh my word, dirty as hell with the oil and food splatter on the table cloth from the previous patrons. Only after I asked 2 waiters to bring a clean one, was it done. Also still had no cutlery. <br/><br/>So, being there almost an hour (still no plates, cutlery or napkins on the table), we get our oysters for starters. Big mistake. All 4 were off and both of us had to run to the bathroom to go vomit them out (sorry :/). So after this ordeal, we decided to still stay and order our mains. It was very busy, so service was slow/non-existent. Quite unacceptable for such a restaurant.<br/><br/>Anyway, que the bread saga. We get our 'warm' bread, which I had to take off the waiters plate as he couldn't put it on our table as he was carrying too many things. Still had no cutlery, so not sure how we were suppose to eat this. Once again, we had to ask for cutlery. Now only bringing us a knife and fork. Great. No plates. Then we decided to call the manager and conplain about the events thus far. So after this, we were still not helped. <br/><br/>Enough was enough. We decided to leave. Paid for our wine and horrible oysters (thank goodness we didn't get food poisoning!) and left. The manager was 'so kind' to give us an extra R50 off our bill. Please, don't break the bank for us. <br/><br/>Needless to say, we'll never go back there. If I could rate this a '0' I would. Shocking service to say the least. <br/><br/><br/><br/>
Fabian
The service was poor. Starters were great wanted to leave then because of the service and stayed. Big mistake, my wife had broken shell pieces in her food. <br/>Will never go back!!
Mahen Naidoo
Chicken peri peri was great. Magnum milkshake was best. Chicken pasta was fishy. Groupon voucher was good value for money. I like the hot towels ... feels like business class.
Heather Patton
Comments: Visited the restaurant with a groupon voucher on a Sunday evening.Despite a relatively empty restaurant the waiter blatantly ignored us, even when I stood up to flag him down several times. I complained to the manager on duty with no response nor apology. The food arrived more than an hour later and so long after our heated plates that they shouldn't have bothered. The prawns were dry from standing around. We also never received the right number of side orders we were supposed to get and we had to clear our own plates! To top it all off I had to flag down a kitchen staff member to give me a take-away container and serving spoon and we then proceeded to back away our left overs in a do-it-yourself fashion. The only thing that arrived promptly was the bill and boy was I grateful to leave! To be fair though once the food did arrive the taste was great! However, the non apologetic approach of staff and management toward such utterly dismissal service was unfortunately too much for us to ever consider a return visit. Would therefore not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Lishani Letchmiah
I must say every time I go for a meal or get take out from Adega Rivonia I always enjoy the food! We have had a few starters... The calamari, Greek salad, prawn rissoles and for mains, the chicken and prawn combo! It really never disappoints. I actually tried one of the pastas and that was delicious. The food is always well prepared, fresh and the portions are generous! The staff are lovely... There seem to be very few waiters so you do wait for a few things. The setting is minimal and nothing too fancy. But all in all a nice family style restaurant.
Anthony Roux
The best Adega in my opinion. Their peri peri chicken is the way chicken should be treated and the rest of the food, incl. sushi is fantastic<br/>Highly recommend

This was my worst dining experience ever and I have had some questionable experiences. My partner and I went yesterday for a nice Sunday lunch. We both were excited to have a great experience as I absolutely love the Adega in Randburg. Our waiter was wonderful, but the manger in duty, quality food and cleanliness was completely different story. We started by ordering starters I had the haloumi cheese and my partner had salmon california rolls. The sushi was fresh , but the haloumi was horrible it was over cooked and tough. So tough I struggled to cut it with my knife. I hate sending food back cause it causes an unnecessary scene. But I my partner insisted I send it back. When we did the airer apologised and asked if I would like something else which I ordered. No sooner did my plate get taken back and the manager came to our table which is standard procedure, but he did let come to apologise but rather he came to attack me for sending my food back he was condescending and very rude, and told me that this is made to order and could not be overcooked. He then turned around in a huff with no apology and walked away. We then decided to move inside and we're seated at a table that was so filthy. The table cloth was stained, the wall had food stains. I was appalled. I went to the restroom was equally as disgusting dirty tissue on the floor. We moved tables and decided to order mains. I ordered the ribs which in the past have been my highlight at other branches, and my partner ordered a steak and prawn combo. Firstly my ribs were supposed to be 250g and What I got was exactly 4 ribs I kid you now, 4 skinny ribs with barely anything on them and for good measure I cut them and it was raw. My partner ordered the surf and turf with a 200g fillet and he asked for it medium. The steak was raw and cold literally just seared it was the perfect rare but no where close to medium. This was just horrible and disappointing. What doesn't surprise me was how empty the restaurant was, with unwelcoming management and terrible food I would never recommend or go back.
The Food Musketeer
We had what we called 'the last supper' of the 4 musketeers. We are now down to 3 as our friend starts her new journey as a married woman. So we decided to go for comfort food. We have on more than one occasion ordered the platter for 4 consisting of peri peri chicken, prawns, panga (a fish that none of us know of yet so juicy and tender) and calamari accompanied with side orders of chips, rice and veg. The food has been relatively consistent and the reason we go back. The cocktails are good.<br/><br/>The new hazelnut magnum milkshake was a bit disappointing as it didnt look like the picture and tasted like a big glass of milk with a few sprinkles of chocolate. . Didnt taste any nuts. Our startes were nice. Prawn tempura with sweet chilli and the new chicken rissoles. Overall a good experience again (food wise) except that if you sit at the back against the wall we keep encountering a few insects - not good for a bunch of females.

Reviews are meant for a reason. .. I ignored what I read is beyond me... Adega Riviona, what a sack of shit, no wonder it's empty, the food is badly prepared and when u tell the waiteress she just dismisses u like u have no clue what u talk of... as for the service, don't go thr if u are staving, that's ur biggest mistake. What's so strange is the adega in North cliff and gateway mall, are so on point, then u get that sack of shit in Rivoina... #waste of money.

Very disappointed - expected at least a good meal! Sadly the prawns were so heavily covered in batter that it was still uncooked - the prawns themselves were good - the Oxtail tasted like a really bad cut of poor quality beef made into a stew - so all in all a very disappointing experience, not even the rice was cooked through?? a bad day? not sure as it was a Friday 28 Nov, and not busy at all.

Terrible service- waiter refused gratuity that was left on the grounds that it was less than 10% even though he was undeserving. Ordered the fillet steak, which was average

Dinner at Adega was fun. The atmosphere is very vibey and a loud table isnt frowned at by anyone (phew). <br/>We went for a quick dinner at Adega before runnng across the parking lot to the Barnyard for a show. Our waiter was very helpful in trying to keep us on schedule and get us to the show on time.<br/><br/>Food was enjoyed by everyone. I ordered a chicken salad (diet! bleh!) but i found it quite nice and tasty and a hefty serving. The salad wasn't drenched in any dressing. Instead, the table had olive oil and balsamic vinegar available. FANTASTIC! I love it! <br/>The mister ordered a chicken Espetada and commented that the veggies were really good. <br/><br/>All in all, not a bad night out.

A fairly large restaurant, yet manages to have a warm and cozy atmosphere! Delicious and full on flavour Portuguese style food with the added magic of sushi makes this a restaurant for all tastes. Probably most well known for their big steel pans full of juicy and delicious prawns...this is one franchise that has a winning and unique formula! Prices are reasonable and a must for all families!

We sat there for 10 minutes and no waiter approached our table! We left the restaurant and no one asked why we were leaving. Anyway, wont go back there.

Buffet is terrible. Quality of food on buffet not good at all, prawns tiny and over cooked with no flavour. Paella cooked with what seems only shells of seafood. Everything else just seemed over cooked and drenched in oil. <br/>My wife had off the menu and her calamari was hard like rubber. <br/>Service seemed slow and waiters seemed very stressed. <br/>Kiddies food should not be brought on heated plates and should not be spiced!<br/>Not a good experience at all!

Sat outside with my husband (smoking section, that consist of 2 lonely tables) fortunately the waiter was very attentive. <br/>Drinks were just ok, except when the manager came around and offer the proper Mozambican rum to my husband(RR or something like that), it was certainly not expected and it was extremely good (first time I've tried it)...and I did preferred it over the margarita and piña colada I had.<br/><br/>We order the special platter for 2...all was good, except the lobster which was the 'king' of the dish, so overcooked that it actually stuck onto the shell. Other than that it was a good meal. <br/><br/>Glad the manager and waiters actually make the environment for us. Inside the restaurant was a little oven, not sure why, but when going to the toilets the heat was too much, outdoor seating is definitely a must here.

Yesterday was my partner's birthday. He wanted oysters so I booked us a table for 3 at Adega's Rivonia. His sister joined us. Our waiter was Bongani and although a little emptier than normal, it was after all a Monday night, the atmosphere was still lovely as always and the service was as always professional and perfect to a T.<br/><br/>We ordered our drinks which arrived timeously.<br/><br/>My partner and his sister had oysters for starters, half a dozen each and although I do not like oysters i did try one and they are so fresh...literally smacks of the sea and you feel so 'clean' after eating one.<br/><br/>For mains we shared 1kg of King Prawns, with sides of rice and chips and all the sauces, namely national sauce, garlic sauce, lemon butter sauce and peri peri sauce.<br/><br/>The prawns were wonderful and literally melted in your mouth.<br/><br/>We were so full after dinner that none of us wanted dessert however they recalled us saying it was my partners birthday and surprised him with ice cream, chocolate sauce and a sparkler!!! such a lovely thought. He was pleasantly surprised.<br/><br/>We often go to this restaurant and I can honestly say that no matter when we go, there is always a wonderful atmosphere, great friendly service, awesome food and really we have never been disappointed.<br/><br/>We love the Rivonia branch and Fred the manager is always willing to go the extra mile and always makes time to say hello.<br/><br/>A great experience, always!!!

Lovely atmosphere with really great tasty food. The LM checken and the calamari are great as well as the Trinchado. Only felt that the music selection was poor. I will go back it was a great experience overall.
