Review Carvers Restaurant - Randburg

We had a lovely brunch there. It was very quiet, which was a pleasure. The service was very good and the waiter was great. He had a sense of humor and a great smile. The decor could do with a bit of attention but we enjoyed our meal and had a good time.

This venue is great and relaxed with a restaurant and pub. The outside area is great with a nice big play area for the kids. Enjoy the outsiide area overlooking a beautdiul dam. I had a chicken schnitzel each bite was a explosion of delight in my mouth. A nice menu of options to choose from with reasonable pricing. The venue is not wheelchair friendly.

The atmosphere is at Carvers is very restful. It is a lively and the food is pretty decent. Would definitely recommend to give a try and see it out for yourself as there is nothing inherently bad with the place. All out good experience from my side.

Absolutely loved my visit here. Loved the outside sitting and the fact that they have a play area for kids with sand that giving beach vibes. Affordable food and drinks and their potions are big.

Carvers Restaurant & Pub goes beyond the conventional steakhouse, offering a diverse culinary experience with a sushi bar and woodfired pizza oven. The menu offers diverse options that range from perfectly cooked steaks to fresh and flavorful sushi. This innovative blend of steakhouse classics and diverse cuisines makes Carvers a standout destination for a memorable dining experience. The outdoor ambience adds to the charm, making it an ideal spot for a memorable dining experience with both delicious food and a scenic backdrop.

Carvers always provides top tier service. From the warm welcome on arrival by management or the friendly waiter staff.. they really are full of positive energy and attentive. Food is great, with something for everyone on the menu options, relaxing atmostsphere, and the kids love the play area.. Been coming here for years, and we always enjoy it. Close to closing time. Using Google maps on our way to another restaurant to have a quick bite. We are unfamiliar with the area and drove past , I have heard of Carvers from someone who lives in the area. Though it was 15 min before closing they still accommodated us. Well staff was just phenomenal and friendly. The pizza some of the best I have had in a very long time. I am delighted I found this place that is 1,5 km from our new home. You can be sure it will become a regular spot for us to come relax and have a great meal. Went there a second time and had the pizza we had last time and chicken wings as a starter. Big mistake , it was delicious and a big portion. Wife had a springbok starter stunning.

Today I had the privilege of having my baby shower at Carvers! After coming to this amazing restaurant only once prior, I decided this was the place for my babyshower and I'm SO grateful I made that choice. We had the most amazing service from the most incredible waiter, Sunfree. The food was incredible and arrived soon after ordering. We were well taken care of the entire time and made to feel special and so welcome! The venue went above and beyond making sure our table was in a private space on the verander and everything was just perfect. From the best virgin cocktails we've ever had to the best food and service, today was made magical and so very memorable. Thank you so much! We love visiting here in general as a family and after sharing a special event at your venue it's now our absolute favourite place all round. ❤️❤️❤️ Keep it up guys 🥹

Visited on A Saturday Afternoon and it was such a vibe. Live band, Great food and play area for the kids. Will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu. Would have given 5 stars if the Champagne bottle we ordered was cold but everything else was great

Such a beautiful setting in Johannesburg. The food is delicious and the service friendly. Best part is sometimes you get to spot an otter 🦦 or two in the dam

What a beautiful experience, food was amazing, the potion was filling and the atmosphere was so peaceful. Would love to visit again❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful building, very pleasant garden with a view over the little dam and good service. The food is also very yummy, but the barista might need a little help, as the coffees were a little below par….especially @ R52 for a double Espresso.

Average service. The food there is over priced for is quality. It’s a very small restaurant which could show room for potential yet the interior lacks any sort of desire for work. Food is bland, no flavour what so ever.
This old pub and diner is not worth visiting.

One does get a sense of the old school surroundings since this place has been here for quite some time. Nevertheless, the surroundings are quite cool. There was only the buffet option when I got there. So I chose the buffet option and to my surprise, there was a bit of variety there. The roast served up the fish and venison option while there were fried potato skins. Unlike the commercial buffets, this buffet is prepared with a bit of care.

Beautiful garden at the back for photos and a nice venue for birthday parties and big family events. The buffet is a great with a wide range of food for starter, main and dessert

Went to Carvers last night for a function, how very awful. From uncomfortable 😣 chairs, to bad service to really horrible food 🥘. The only food that was okay was the pumpkin soup. The pudding was shocking, ice cream 🍦 serviced out of the plastic container. This use to be a fantastic restaurant but now it is terrible.

What a disappointment. Went to Carvers based on previous experience. No carvery served as nobody booked. Ordered from menu and the grilled calamari and steak not to the previous standard. Will avoid Carvers in future.

Absolutely fantastic experience. Food unbelievably succulent. Fish is amazing. Meat is amazing. Dessert AMAZING! Delicious Sangria. Amazing service from our wonderful waitress Thilda with a welcoming and warm smile upon approach. Definitely a new experience. And worth returning to!!
Thank you ❤❤❤

Having worked at carvers for 5 years back in 1995 I only had praise for the place and Walter and Shaun were top notch.I heard recently it has since changed hands to new owners from around 2014. The once brilliant institution has changed to a completely different couldn't care attitude type management. Food still pretty good but ambiance and service down the tubes. I was so proud to have worked at such a great place but after going back this evening there is zero chance I'll be back. Good luck is all I say. So sad. Management make it all and that is sadly lacking

Service - average. Food - very average. Management - disgusting. Some miscommunication resulted in 1 plate of food costing R180 instead of R80. When we chatted to the waiter and management about it, the manageress agreed to reimburse us the difference. But when she returned with our money, it was like she was another person. She held the R200, snidely tried to give us R60 instead and made us feel bad about the dispute. Rather go to the McDonald's, it'll be a much nicer outing with friendlier staff.

Came here on a Friday night. Thought it would be better to skip the buffet and order a la carte. Waited 45min for a steak and chicken cordon blue. Order was mixed up and steak completely under-done to what was ordered. Red wine was presented in an ice bucket. I reserved comment because it was a warm night... We should've just done the buffet, eat quickly and leave.

The pub is the best place in Johannesburg to watch rugby, great atmosphere! The pub food isn't bad and they have a good selection of Belgian and local beers too!

The staff were friendly and helpful. The setting was good. Above all the buffet was excellent. The food was great. Good variety. The roasts were juicy and tender. Some of the best roast meats we have had anywhere. Good value for money. We did not even get charge anything for our 2 year old except for the milkshake which he had. We went at 6:30 pm and left at 7:25 pm. To my surprise it was nowhere near full. I would recommend Carvers to anyone.

Such a disappointing experience here on Sunday. I do not recommend coming here on buffet days if you do not plan to eat from the buffet because I do not think that the kitchen and staff can handle both the buffet demands and a la carte menu demands simultaneously.
My friend and I both ordered steaks. She asked for hers very rare / blue and it came medium. Mine was well done instead of medium. I accepted mine but she sent hers back and got back a new steak, AGAIN medium! By that point I had almost finished eating so she just settled for what she got.
Both of our vegetable sides came cold, and when we sent them to be warmed up, mine came back hot but my friend's were still completely cold.
We asked for sauces and the waitress literally "humphed" and walked away??
So sad because the restaurant / pub is absolutely lovely in terms of appearance and ambiance.

Haven't been to Carvers in a while, but from what I remember the food was excellent and the service was above average. Their Red wine and buffet is absolutely great, just not a fan of the decor and carpeted floors... But not a bad place for a family lunch.

This has been our family venue for ages and lately it has gone down drastically. The buffet quality and variety have deteriorated, as well as the overall feel of the place. Tried the mussel pot, was quite disappointed: there're plenty of mussels, spiced with a Robertson's garlic sort of spice (very distinct taste), and just overall lack of that je ne sais quoi.

I found the pricing to be very good, the food was cooked well and tasted amazing, all in all it was a very nice experience, the bar on the premises is also a nice touch for those wanting to have a few drinks after dinner

The location and set up could make this an amazing place but over the last couple of years it has continued deteriorating and is now very very low on my list of restaurants to go to. The buffet (I really don't do buffets) has nothing exciting or delicious. This is the place to take the retirement village to on a Sunday for a very predictable and ok ish cooked Sunday meal and outing.

We decided to try Carver's for our christmas lunch last year, and boy were we surprised. I had heard bad reviews about them from friends, but decided to try them out anyway.
The christmas lunch buffet was out of this world.
Def a must visit for a group of friends or dinner with thefamily. They have both a a la carte menu or full 3 course buffet, something for everyone.

Aangename ambiance. Heerlike kos. Kom gewis terug. Goeie diens. Waarde vir geld. Kan Carvers regtig aanbeveel. 'n Klein stukkie Kaap-Hollands in Gauteng.

Carvers is an institution in the Cresta area and, although it has changed hands a few times, still offers a very good standard and excellent value for money. The buffet style carvery is excellent and has to be seen to be believed. For R140 per person the choice of soups, stews, starters, salads, vegetables, roasts (always pork with excellent crackling, lamb, beef, chicken and a venison dish) and finally, desserts is trully amazing and always very good quality.
Several of my friends and I have, over the years, held birthday parties at Carvers and have never been disappointed in the food, service or value for money. And, if you are not a carvery/buffet fan their a la carte menu is also excellent. The best kept secret of all is that they offer a single plate of home-cooked food for R50.00! I usually have this meal at least once a week which, with a couple of glasses of good red wine and a tip costs around R135.00.
The waiters are very polite, friendly and helpful so a visit to this restaurant is always a pleasant experience.

August 2014
Sadly, a glass of red wine now costs R40.00. Cheaper to buy a bottle and take home any left overs.

October 2015
Quality of buffet appears to be deteriorating and the only time you ever see a manager is when he sidles into the restaurant to dish up his own plate of food. What a pity!

Carvers is tucked away in the unsuspecting suburb of Darrenwood. Before arriving, I was sceptical about what I would find. But seeing it from the outside, my scepticism began fading. Carvers is inside an old cape Dutch style house, which looks like it has a lot of history behind it.
The restaurant and pub are separated, so there is no interference if you are wanting a quiet meal. The interior is superbly finished. The main attraction at Carvers, is the buffet. I am normally not much of a buffet fan, but Carvers' buffet is really something special. They not only have the usual roast offerings, but they also have a game roast available, and sometimes there is fish available. The soups and vegetables are very tasty, and last but certainly not least, they have an excellent selection of desserts.

The staff are always friendly, and have a good rapport with their customers. I would recommend Carvers to anyone looking for somewhere new for the family. There is also ample room available for functions.
