Review Dali Restaurant - Randburg

Krishan Tailor
Delightful restaurant that has authentic Durban curry’s. The owner/chef Deva is masterful in his craft. The bunny chow was as good as being in Durban, but instead you’re in Randburg. Highly recommended, you will not regret it. I had the butter bean lamb bunny and it was to die for.

Firstly apologies for the not so great pictures, but after being stuck in traffic for more than 2 hours thanks to the rain and traffic I just wanted to heat my food and eat since it got cold and I was starving. On my way, I had called and placed my order. I was told they didn't have Lamb curry but were busy making a fresh batch. I was more than willing to wait that extra time for fresh curry. So we ordered 2 Lamb and 1 Chicken Curry and Roti, and one portion of Soji. The food was done on time, and I managed to make my way out of the storm. Can honestly agree this is definitely proper Durban styled curry. I can only imagine the taste when eating it when served fresh or in a Bunny. Loved the flavour of the curry, the gravy and the potatoes. The soji wasn't bad either. A little bit mushy but it still tasted nice. Will definitely buy again from Dali Restaurant next time I am in the area. I am usually a supporter of another spot nearby but have been dissapointed with my purchases the last few times. So it's taken me a really long time to finally give Dali a try. #TheFoodMusketeer #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TFMDali

The best bunny I've eaten in Jhb. Great flavour. Packed with lamb and soft potatoes. Accompanied by a fresh carrot salad with the right amount of heat, salt and vinegar. Will definitely be back.

Not many restaurants can offer the flavours of Indian food as Dali’s does. Brilliant food, amazing friendly atmosphere. The owner is always warm and welcoming. Highly recommended!

I have been hunting for a good bunny chow in Gauteng. I think I found it. Was a bit of a drive for me but it was well worth the fuel. I walked out of there with a contented smile on my face. Thank you for satisfying the craving. Will be back for sure :)

We visited for lunch and had the mutton bunnies. They definitely do not disappoint. Curry was plenty and delicious.

The food was delicious, reminded me how much I miss home (Dbn). We had the mutton breyani which came with dholl, sour milk salad and carrot salad as well as chicken curry and rice. Both dishes were deeeelicious. We didn't have a long waiting period for the food to arrive. The staff are also so polite and efficient. Will definitely make a turn there again.

In Johannesburg for a few days on business and looking for bunny chow. My customer recommended Dali, and it was a good recommendation! Mutton bunny chow was flavoursome and spicy, with plenty of meat, a perfect lunch, would recommend.

Best authentic Indian food in Johannesburg... Definitely a hidden gem, I have been searching for good Indian cuisine and finally found the best spot in Jozi... The service immaculate to say the least and the food is devine...

We had the chicken curry bunny chow and lamb trotters curry. Food was amazing. Finally a good bunny chow in Joburg .

Awesome food served by friendly staff and great music. Reminds me of some Durban curry spots.

Always a great experience, King Dali is on point with his cooking style and consistent Durban flavour, thank you for a top chow!

Had the opportunity to eat at this establishment a couple of days ago and I must say it's very impressive, bunny was loaded with meat and potatoe just melted away in my mouth, a tad heavy on the turmeric but its forgivable, didn't get the guys name but he's very friendly, carrot salad was amazing good balance of salty, sweet, sour and spicy, menu is limited, personally I would love to see samoosas on the menu, maybe some traditional items like tripe and trotters, didn't see those on the menu but it would be great, overall the experience was great and definitely worth the try especially with the lack of good bunny chows in gauteng, well done Dali.

I'm a Durban girl living in Johannesburg.. The bunny chow at Dali's makes me feel like I'm at home.. Thank you for always providing food that warms the heart and soul..

A pretty simple restaurant with changing menu.... But the taste remaining consistent... Was referred by a friend for best bunny chow... And must say .... It was amazing... Love it 😍

Indian in South Africa longs for what ? The Indian food and I was told by a friend that Dali serves some amazing rajma chawal which they call sugar beans and rice . I went to this place a couple times and the owner is the most welcoming and humble guy ever. I had sugar beans, rice , chapati and the chicken bunny chow. OMG what a dish I discovered the bunny chow. They pull out the bread from the loaf to create a space and put all the curry inside and serve it . I must say the chicken was absolutely delicious and loved the concept of bunny chow . The rice is a little thicker than what we have here in India and it’s yellow in color but it goes well with the sugar beans or chicken curry . The only problem is that they’re open on during lunch and that too if you reach by 2-2.30 most of the stuff will be over so better be there by 12-1 .

Great Durban style Indian food. Always fresh. Good variety, Menu items change daily. Food is consistently good. We have been getting food from here for over a year and we continue to do so. Friendly staff. Very welcoming.

Super dodgy centre and restaurant. The person at the counter didn't seem interested in having a customer and so I left. Keep in mind there's a limited menu on a board.

Mutton/Lamb bunny was just awesome. Great taste and amazing hospitality. Thanks for everything. 1000000% recommended. Bunny will taste awesome with some bourbon or smoky whiskey or beer :). Cheers enjoy.

Dined at Dali for the first time with a group of friends yesterday, and what a great experience! Deva treated us like royalty, tailor-making the curry to the tastes of each person, and keeping us attentive company throughout the evening. Truly excellent food, and unusually good customer service. We will be back!

I had probably the best bunny chow in JHB accompanied with a cherry cola (very hard to find this). The bread was fresh and the meat fell off the bone. Perfectly spiced curry and melt in your mouth potatoes. The owner is fantastic guy who goes out of his way to make sure you a wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend Dali to anyone looking for great service and amazing food!

Food is really good. Great home-made specials on Friday. The owner is super friendly. Great atmosphere. Definitely the best Indian restaurant in Randburg.

There were limited vegetarian/vegan options when I visited but enjoyed the beans curry and rice. Would like to see soya and other veg options.

I have yet to find a better bunny chow. Casual atmosphere, very good food.

Good for lunch excursions on a Friday afternoon. You won't regret it.

Good quality Durban curries! Had the lamb curry with roti - fresh, good quality, great flavour. The owner is friendly and polite. Comfortable restaurant with good selection of drinks. I'll be back to sample more on the menu!

Tucked away behind generic restaurants in a no-so-busy centre you don't expect much when you walk through the doors. Run by the owner (who is also the cook) you get a a sense that he really takes pride in his business; friendly, honest, at your service but doesn't do much talking, the food speaks for itself. One of the better lamb bunnies but one of the cheapest in Gauteng. Real quality, soft meat, gravy with great consistency and fresh salad make it just that. It doesn't get a 5 because I wish it were a little hotter, most would disagree with me (my wife included) but that's my preference. Amazing food, a must try if you're in Gauteng.

Truly authentic! One mouthful and I'm transported back to my early childhood in Natal. The bunnies are delicious...but the best dish by far is the kebabs. Definitely highly recommended.

Heard great things about this place so I had to give it a try. I must say, probably the best bunny I've had in joburg. The owner is also very welcoming and friendly, his personal touch made the experience totally worthwhile. Will definitely be going back many times!

The owner is great adding his personal touch which the experience so much better.now let's talk about the food!!Wow!!!There are a lot of Indian restaurants around but non come half as close to the taste or freshness.this has got to be the best Indian food money can buy in Johannesburg.the chops chutney and mutton bunny is a must have..take a drive and try it, you will not be disappointed.
Sheryl
A great takeaway for local Indian cuisine. The resturant itself has minimal decor and not much of an ambience. However, the owner's super friendly and personal touch really sets this place away from its competitors. The food is the high side but the quality and taste justifies the price. If I lived closer, I would frequent more often.

I think when food at an Indian restaurant is really good ( especially in Jozie ) one should really put in the effort to promote such establishments. This is mainly because their are a lot of wannabe cooks out there selling shit and calling it " authentic durban/Indian cuisine " Well Today..........I can honestly say that after being in Gauteng for the past 10 years and searching for a good bunny in that time , I'm comfortable to say that I have found my " Gauteng curry spot " If I had to compare the curry to a Durban equivalent I would put Dali up there with Hollywood( inter site avenue), Britania, victory lounge ( chatsworth centre) ,Goundens (umbilo) and trust me I can make that comparison because I have eaten at atleast 3 of those places within the last 3 months. ( so it's quite an educated comparison). I tasted the veg and meat dishes at Dali today and they were both crazy good. The restaurant seating area itself was a tad bit plain but trust me the food really made up for that. The owner cooks the food ,serves the food and seems to really take pride in what he does. The toilets were exceptionally clean and very inviting ( I think I even spent more time in them than I should of but if you see them then you will know y) In ending this review I would like to add that I will definitely be making that drive from Boksburg ( yes I said boksburg!!!) to Randburg for a quality chow @Dali's restaurant .

Ordered a mutton bunny take away today and I highly recommend them to any one. Certainly the closest thing I've eaten to a proper Durban curry. Customer service was excellent too- very helpful and pleasant.

Call it habit or being fussy, but when you eat curry away from home, you tend to have high expectations, I think being an Indian makes this habit more pronounced. So on a whim we went to Dali today and first impressions can sometimes be the death of a good experience. I waited about 5 minutes and saw no one in sight and I was considering leaving. Too my bad I didn't notice the bell on the counter. I was about to leave when the owner emerged and I opted to place a take away order which I would have collected after I picked up my daughters KFC,the owner said we should pick up the KFC and come eat in, this was refreshing because not many restaurants allow this. We got back to the restaurant and we were seated. His wife tended to us in the most gracious manner, reminding me of the Indian saying "your guest is akin to God". The food was served and the curries were incredibly fresh and it reminded me off authentic home food. The rotis were soft and yummy and the samoosas were out of this world. You could clearly see the owners pride come through in the food. For me a successful curry should not be oily, or where the spices burn your taste buds or where you suffer terrible indigestion, a successful curry was served to me at Dalis, will definitely become a regular...

Great Durban style food with personalised customer service from the owner/ chef. Best part is that food was really good and freshly prepared. There might be abit of a wait but totally worth it when compared to indian restaurants that now serve previously frozen food.

Decided I needed some Inidan food last night as the weather was really rainy and cold. My partner and I went to Dali, it was homely and so inviting. The food was amazing, i would never go to any other Indian restaurant in RANDBURG after tasting this food. The owner went as far as to give us two free treats for being polite customers. I do believe the prices are a bit too high for the portion, I also think that the curry must be served with a small pickle and salad. Make the portions a bit larger in order to justify the price. :) Other than that, I will def go back (on pay day) haha.

Very casual dining. Limited menu however the mutton curry and chicken curry were perfect. The chops chutney on the other hand was really not to our liking, it was cooked much like a fish curry with similar flavors. Really didn't work for us. The service was really good. Will definitely be eating ordering from here again.

Great food and excellent service for anyone in search of an authentic Durban curry. A definite must try. Well done to the Dali team. We'll definitely be back. 😊

This is a relatively new Durban Indian restaurant, the owners are a really delight. We ordered takeaways of lamb bunnies and broad beans bunny for me. This is one of the best veg bunnies I have eaten ever. I asked for extra salad and extra gravy and got both at no extra cost. However they are bit pricey compared to the other Durban Indian restaurants, I do not mind paying extra for the quality.

Had family lunch at Dali last sat-from a former Durbanite-this place is awesome!! Food was absolutely delicious!! Felt like being back home in Durbs!!

The best bunny in jhb by far, great tasting food, u can taste the high quality of the ingredients and the care and passion in the food. The fòod i will actually rate a 5. My only concern was that i waited for 40min for 2 takeaway bunnies, i am not sure if they forgot abt my order, unattentive staff, no menus, no pricelist, and i paid 150 rands for 2 bunnies and 2 smallish snowballs.

I tried this new establishment on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with the great quality and taste of the food. I bought the lamb curry and kebab chutney and will definitely be back for more. Unfortunately, it is a new establishment and they need more customers to increase their menu options. I also found the location hidden from the main road and feel they will definitely draw more customers if they're located in a more visible location.
