Review Alpine Restaurant - Randburg

Justin Mushawatu
The restaurant is very intimate and clean. The menu is also brilliant. I recommend it any day.

Amazing butchery! Best selections, great pricing, wonderful staff and the best dry wors we've ever had!! Restaurant is just as amazing, wonderful food. Although no play area, kids have fun building trains and fords 😉

Great food. Nice little place. Will be going there again.

Best lamb chops in Johannesburg. Ask for thicker cut loin chops.
Jordan du Toit
Butchery is clean :) and the variety is well packed and priced fairly. Nothing is as nice as a clean butchery. Have yet to use the restaurant

Our department decided to treat our bosses for bosses day lunch and as Alpine is across the road we thought this place would be ideal for us. WELL where do we start ...... the restaurant was almost empty, and as we only had 1.5 hours to eat and get back to the office, we thought we would be done in good time - we were a table of 8 and ordered quite simple meals - the meals took well over an hour to be served - and only when we complained was it finally served - the food was definitely not up to standard - the chicken was old and looked liked it had been left out for days - the burgers were served with very stale rolls which just fell apart - The poor waitress requested the manager to come and speak to us to hear the complaints and he totally outright refused - he ignored us as if we were not there - this was a very dissatisfying experience and a total waste of our hard earned money and time - not to say the embarrassment we felt in front of our bosses - needless to say we will NEVER return.

My partner and I went for our dinner date here . It was my first time here and we both thought it best to make a reservation in case it turned out to be full . Upon arrival the place was quite empty but rather safe than sorry .

From the moment we got there the manager welcomed us and was very friendly . Our waiter ,Wellington was really great and provided an excellent service. The place was dimly lit and had a romantic mood . I wasn’t too fond of the bathrooms they weren’t too clean and had cleaning material lying around . And they were outside bathrooms .

To eat I ordered the Alpine Turf combo with cinnamon butternut as a side dish And we had a bottle of wine . I was very pleased with my food ,the fillet was cooked as requested . The only thing that was a let down was the butternut it was too big and didn’t have much flavor . My partner ordered the chicken and prawns ,which they found the chicken to be too salty . And the manager was so kind and offered us complimentary shooters /coffee / dessert . We opted for the shooters ,bottoms up lol !

I also noted the place has affordable weekday specials so I’m definitely coming here again .

This is a great and affordable spot. Would definitely recommend it .

This is my favourite butcher and the restaurant self is just as wonderful. You can sit outside under the trees and enjoy a lovely lunch. Their prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. Their steaks comes with bone marrow! The pork chops, pizzas and salads are mouth-watering I've enjoyed every meal I've had here and I've been a few times

Good setting, but unfortunately very disappointing service. Kitchen forgot to prepare our dinner - nearly 1,5 hours after placing order we were served with dinner that did not match what the waiter sold to us. Manager not interested in customers.
Lynette Scafturis
We went to Alpine for their Kleftico Sunday. What an exquisite selection on their buffet. The lamb was incredibly tender and juicy. The pork belly was divine.
Amongst other great dishes, I was particularly intrigued with the pumpkin salad and it definitely did not disappoint.
I enjoyed the little dessert options, which made you feel like you were indulging without all the calories.
Most definitely a great stop to eat - away from a bustling crowded mall.
I highly recommend you try this place. We will most definitely be back and are keen to try their pizza/pasta or meat platter nights next.

This is a very quiet and place, for good conversation. My dining experience was just totally ruined when I got to the middle of my lamb shank and it was frozen. I laid a complaint with the manager and it was as though, this is something normal.

We've been going to Alpine since it opened. We have always had wonderful food and great service. The main events are their meat and prawns. Absolutely sensational. Steaks are served with marrow bones - unctuous and moreish and adds so much to great cuts of steak. Service is attentive and friendly. The ambience is simple and relaxed. This is quite honestly one of the best bistros for an easy dinner or for a celebration with a bigger group. Always a winner.
Chris De Beer
A butchery that opened a restaurant next door. The fillet was so so soft and tender. The sides are very interesting. Gud selection of wine available. Pricing very good for what u get.
Gergana Young
Great steak and Bulgarian mixed grill. Their burgers are quite nice as well. Really nice for a Sunday afternoon lunch. The service is not bad.
Tilen Chetty
Love the marrow bone and steak combo and the gourmet sides just take it to another level. The main issue with this restaurant is the inconsistency especially when serving bigger groups. The food gets to you cold on occasion or undercooked/overcooked.
Mayuri Naidu
Fresh meat, great prawns and a marrow bone with every main meat meal. What more could a girl ask for? The staff is friendly, the vibe is low key but pleasant, and the wine list is extensive. Their side dish of brocoli au gratin in a blue cheese sauce is good enough to eat on it's own, and it's also the restaurant I had too much champagne with my friends and we spontaneously booked a trip to India, so it will always hold fond memories for me. It's very conveniently located too. They could do a bit more with the decor, like some fairy lights around the lone tree, and the ablution facilities is pretty much a porter loo, but I've always been a sucker for a good fairy light and a smooth glass of red.

Friday evening. 45 Minutes to wait for food and then 2 Eisbeins arrive over cooked and dry, which we could ignore and continue, BUT FROZEN SOLID ON THE INSIDE. We both cut a piece of meat, put it in our mouth and ice crystals met our tongues. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE Experience.

Popped in for lunch earlier today and ordered a chicken and mushroom pasta as my weekly treat! I must say I'm actually disgusted at the standard that I received, my pasta was porridge, the cream sauce;watery, boiled chicken thats flavourless, no mushrooms.

An overall terrible experience. How can a place charge people so much in return for absolute rubbish? A instant pack of dennys pasta sauce from pick n pay has more flavour than what i paid premium prices for. I will not be returning. Save your self from below sub standard food and take your hunger somewhere else.
LorinB
Popped in for a last minute dinner out and we were very pleasantly surprised at the superb food we received at extremely reasonable prices. The service was right up there too. Looking forward to returning to try more of the menu items as they cater for a variety of tastes.

What I really like about Alpine is they get the basics right! Good food, great service and value for money.
Staff were all very attentive and you always got the feeling that everyone cared. I had the surf and turf with my steak perfectly cooked while the prawns were juicy and appetizing. My wife had the pork belly which was also cooked perfectly and the generous helping resulted in her having to get a take away for the remainder. Try the chips with feta grated over them-such a simple concept but so delicious. The restaurant also has a selection of craft tap beers which is also an added benefit. Overall my first dining experience at Alphine left me feeling like I need to go back to try the other dishes. Keep up the good work Alphine, you will definitely be seeing me again!

We went without a booking for a quick evening out; warm inviting atmosphere. Service was fine; food was great! Will definitely be going again...
Craig Nicholson
My wife and I decided to try this for Sunday brunch. The chicken schnitzel was mediocre, the side veggies were delicious. However the crispy eisbein that was recommended by the waiter had a rubbery skin. It got sent back to be crisped. Unfortunately the chef decided to deep fry it and the result was overcooked and still not crispy.

The manager informed us that they use the pizza oven to crisp it and the oven was not hot enough yet. So if you do try it, order it much later in the day.
Nasheetha Singh
We eat here often. The chicken schnitzel is my firm favorite. It is thin, with a thin crust that's never oily and is never overcooked. The chips with feta are to die for, thank you for the introduction. My boyfriend usually has beef and it's always cooked to perfection. He loves the range of craft beers although some are not always in stock. He also enjoys the sausage platter which is a starter. I've had the prawn starter twice and once it was oily and the mayo was overpowering and too much of it on the plate. The only non consistency. Service can also be slow sometimes even when the restaurant is not busy but the staff are friendly. This place is definitely value for money!
Carole Craggs
We had a pleasant evening here. We hadn't booked and the place was packed but they managed to find a spot outside. The food was good and the service friendly. I'd definitely recommend a visit if you haven't discovered this local been yet.
Avi Mistry
Always wanted to try this spot and I'm really glad that I did. The friendly atmosphere and decor make for an unassuming setting in this neck of the woods.

After following the waiters recommendation, I tried the 21 day aged ribeye and boy, was it spectacular !!
All neighboring diners seemed to be happy with their choices so I have plenty of reasons to revisit !

When I ask people "do you know Alpine Restaurant", the response is either "that place is amazing!", or "which place?" Alpine is less than one kilometer from where I live, yet somehow it took me nearly three years to visit. Now I wish I could make up for lost time. The place is easily accessible. Right on Bram Fisher, just before you get to Linden. Its a small center, with lots of parking available. They have a very nice deck area, but due to inclement weather we could not sit there. Also, due to said weather, all the doors and windows were tightly closed, causing the interior to be a bit noisy and stuffy. I'm sure that won't be a problem under normal circumstances. The menu is extensive. From pizza and pasta to Einstein and steak. I had pork chops and my companion had steak, both of which were delicious. It seems that they also have a butchery and deli on the same premises, which may account for the excellent quality of the meat. What really impresses is the side orders. Most dishes allows you to pick any two. It literally took me longer to select my two side dishes than to choose the meat! I settled on broccoli and blue cheese bake (that is one dish, served in a ramekin), and mashed potatoes. The décor and ambiance did not really blow my hair back. In fact, two days later I find myself hard pressed to remember what the interior looked like. That doesn't matter, it's not the kind of place you go to so that you can look at the walls. Service was good, though not amazing. Pricing is average - not cheap, not expensive. All in all, this is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that is well worth the drive if you live far away. What a gem.

This is one of our favourite restaurants! The food is always good, and we love trying out the Albanian menu.
We shared the vegetarian pizza with a salad. Excellent!
The Little Miss got free dry wors sticks to munch on, and we ordered a plate of chips with that!
They have a large variety wine menu, and we plan to come back for that!
Glen Mollink
Service good here and food ok. Not too wowed by the lamb shank - gravy a bit Bisto'ish. My wife steak was yummy as was the pizza. A little loud in the restaurant with all the windows and doors closed for the weather. Try on a Sunday afternoon for lunch maybe?

In my short life I have had the privilege of visiting 100's of restaurants. I'm a meat lover, and a huge fan of pork ribs. I visited Alpine because of it's reputation and rating on Zomato. We ordered the bone marrow starter having had it before, it was leagues above the rest. Unfortunately we also had the misfortune of ordering pork ribs, which I'm sad to report were terrible. After half an hour of fighting to tear the meat away from the bone, we eventually gave up. After doing a rough calculation in my head I'm almost certain that I expended more energy trying to eat this tough meat than I did consuming it. In short, we may have actually lost weight eating this meal. At the end of which it took 5 toothpicks to remove the monstrous amount of meat embedded between my teeth. If you're looking for a cost to portion size establishment this is your spot. If you're looking for quality keep driving.
Sue-Ann
Based on Zomato ratings, we decided to give Alpine a try. What a good decision! First, the restaurant is light and airy (we didn't sit outside, but it looked welcoming, too). The wine list is extensive, and the waiters knowledgeable about the choices.
Hubby was planning on a steak, but chose the pork schnitzel instead, as it's one of his favourite dishes. I went straight for the pork belly - divine, perfectly cooked, and the option of having two sides just made it better. The caramelised beetroot was delicious and as for the Gorgonzola broccoli - yum! Our waiter was also very patient at going to find out whether anything contained wheat, and I'm happy to report that their sauces are thickened with maizena, not cake flour.
Good thing I didn't order the Bulgarian tripe soup as a starter (thanks to our waiter's warning that it was *not* starter-sized) - I would never have been able to have both that and the pork! The portions are far too generous for that to be possible.
All in all, a great new discovery for weekend lunches - in fact, I have already invited friends for lunch, based on today's experience.
Tim Ross
Alpine has a great food selection. Pastas pizzas burgers and steaks. I tried out the steak this time and I was more than happy with it. You have a choice of 2 sides! I like that option. Some feta fries and some blue cheese broccoli. Alpine used to do this lamb gnocchi which I loved. Why take it off the menu? Bring it back! Keep it up Alpine. The service was great as well. Very impressed overall.
Natalia Bonegio
Took my boyfriend for steak and ribs for his birthday at Alpine, and it was the perfect birthday experience!

The staff were friendly with their wine suggestions, and the manager even came over to contribute. All of the steaks arrive with marrow bones, which is such a unique and creative touch! This is actually the reason why I picked Alpine instead of a different steak house.

Our meat was done wonderfully, and the service was sharp and friendly. Our waiter, Lesley, was just awesome. The fact that you can have any 2 sides with your steak is very generous and pleasing as well. My chips and cinnamon butternut were divine, and my sirloin was cooked to perfection.

My only complaint is that many of the imported wines advertised were not available. Otherwise, I highly recommend Alpine Restaurant!
Adelle
What a shocking experience. How they stay open is beyond me. Dreadful meal, zero ambiance, horribly overpriced. At least put on some music to create an atmosphere. Was there a week ago and it still annoys me that I had to part with hard earned money to pay for that meal!
Marius De Lange
Can't believe I've taken so long to visit this gem, right on my doorstep. Service was excellent, staff attentive and food was brilliant - both top class AND value-for-money. Bravo!

Prepare to have the best service in Jhb. Seriously, Eat Outs Top 10 Jhb restaurants cannot compete with this service and believe me, I have very high expectations.

My husband picked this restaurant for us for an anniversary, because of its high Zomato score. As we walked in and was shown to our table, we arrived to find a stunning bouquet of flowers and an ice cold bottle of MCC, already set up! The waiter, Biggie, was just the most awesome guy. Turns out he suggested to my husband that he buy the flowers and get the champagne cold, when my husband made the reservation over the phone. How nice?

We both ordered the aged rib eye with sides and the presentation was lovely. The bone marrow is out of this world, however, our only negative critique is that the quality of the meat was average. Not bad, just not up to par with the high level of service. And this is such a pity, as they are connected to the butchery next door! We both had a very tough piece of meat and again, the service made up for that. The manager came around, explained and took it back to the kitchen and return with another piece of steak to make up for it.

We then had dessert and a shot of Grappa on the house.

All in all a lovely experience. Will definitely go back. Want to try their breakfasts.
Princess Petra
Absolutely love this hidden gem! Originally a great deli/butchery they expanded and opened a little attached restaurant that you know will always have fresh meat. So going in expectations are high and for me they meet and surpass the expectations.

The service is always good and the food is fantastic. The fillet with bone marrow is simply mouth watering, the calzone is a one-of-a-kind, flavour filled, stuffed to the brim, bundle of absolute joy. On my last visit the lamb was cooked to perfection, it could have done with a little less sauce but overall very good. All of their sides are super tasty and their wine selection is to die for (I think one of the owners must be wine collector).

The outside deck seating under the trees is perfect for the summer and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Its is a good place for a quite dinner with a few friends/family or your SO. This is definitely my go-to for a great piece of meat done to perfection - a fillet done past medium-rare should be a considered a crime ;)

We stumbled upon this gem 3 months ago by chance, and have been there six times since. The steaks are some of the best I've ever eaten, and the pastas are world class.the Service is always fantastic.
Dzithe Phiri
One of my favourite restaurants in JHB! Definitely a hidden gem. The food is great, service is a bit slow but always worth the wait and the variety of the menu allows you to experience something new over and over. Try their tomatoe soup!! The best thing to happen to this foodie in 2015! See you later Alpine!
CharM
We went to Alpine restaurant tonight for a date night. We got a table outside and the breeze under the tree was great in this heat.

We couldn't decide what we wanted from the diverse menu. Everything looked interesting and worth a try. We ended up choosing the steaks with marrow bone and two sides. My husband loved his T bone, my rump was unfortunately over done and not that great.

The sides were amazing. The Gorgonzola broccoli was completely moreish.

Lovely evening although a little disappointing on the steak side.
Lood Du Plessis
What a lovely spot. The food is good, the service attenitive and although the food took a while to arrive it was absolutely worth the wait. If you are looking for a solid meal that wont make you regret spending hard earned cash, check this place out.
Stephanie Courtnage
What an absolutely stunning restaurant! We were seated out on the deck under trees. It is always good to be outside after sitting in front of a computer all morning.

My only complaint is that the food took a while to come out. This was a bit of a problem as we came during lunch hour, which turned into a two and a half hour lunch.

The food was well worth the wait! I ordered the half chicken. The dish came with a choice of two sides. I went with the chips and spinach. The chips were fresh and the flavouring was delicious and the chicken was exceptionally tender with an amazing BBQ flavour.

Unfortunately the photos do not do the meal justice. Trying to take photos under a tree just didn't working out well.

Overall, a very relaxing, delicious lunch! I will definitely be visiting Alpine again!
Nicola Veitch
Alpine restaurant is an intimate and cosy little spot that always delivers. The steak taretar starter is always a winner as the capers are crispy, salty and divine! The lamb burger and steak are tied for mains as both are amazing!
If you're like me and enjoy sitting outside, there is a lovely outside seating area for those that prefer al fresco.
Sumendra Narismulu
The steak was good cannot fault that, the lam chops however was not cooked as well it should have been. A very quiet atmosphere, and a bit dark.
But otherwise a good place to visit if yo uhavent been there before.
A good selection of wines and beer,
San Fran
So I trusted the Zomato reviews and took my wife to dinner at the Alpine Restaurant. The service was OK and that was the highlight of the evening, but the food was disappointing from the starters to the main course. Also the fact that the restaurant only had one toilet outside of the restaurant and cleanliness at the toilet was not great doesn't make it great spot for a couples evening. It is an ok restaurant for a quick meal and maybe to watch a game, but not a fantastic restaurant worth a 4 or above rating.
Cimone Jae
I really love Carpaccio and this is one of the best I have had; ultra thin and served with cranberry compote. Service is great, happy situation all 'round.
Vee
Not really sure how they managed such a high rating, had the ribs and it doesn't come close to The Diner in Krugersdorp , it was super salty and the only good part of the meal were their sides.
Lucy
Absolutely delicious food. I had prawns which were fresh and cooked perfectly! The high light however was the dessert. The chocolate fondant that was freshly prepared was more than what I could ask for.
It's a small restaurant but so the atmosphere was relaxed and cosy.
Thanks Alpine for a great eat out.
Linda Meyer
The food is generally good, a bit of hit and miss though. Make sure to tell the service staff that you do not want the basting on your steak - or you will be presented with a spur version😳.
Greg Du Preez
A hidden gem in Joburg.
I've been here for breakfast a few times with work colleagues and we've enjoyed it every time!
I have a pork allergy and they were very accommodating, supplying substitutes and making a plan for me with their very delicious breakfasts! I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict, with a cafe latte.

Sitting outside is quiet, lots of shade from nearby trees. Our waiter the one time was a bit slow and had to repeat orders a few times to get them right, I'm assuming he was a trainee? Otherwise they are always very friendly.

Alpine Restaurant in Ferndale (Randburg) has only been around a couple of years and it already has a loyal neighbourhood following.

As I walked into this charming little restaurant on a rainy Friday night, to be greeted by the quirky Pavel Sariev and his team, I couldn't help but feel at home right away.. From its black tiled bar area and huge wine selection to the bustling tables around me, I saw that this was not the kind of place that you manage to get a table at on a Friday night without booking first.

I soon learnt that they were hosting a free wine tasting evening (which I am told that they often do), and asked if I could be included in it. I was not disappointed!

Raka Wines (named after Piet Dreyer's black fishing vessel), presented by Tania Bester was on show for the evening and I loved that they had managed to incorporate each member of staff at Alpine to come out proudly and present the meal best paired with each wine course. I was very happy to be educated with their knowledge on food and wine on a Friday night...

In terms of the wine options on offer that evening were the:

1. Raka Sauvignon Blanc with accompanying dish recommendations by Maureen.

2. Raka Chenin Blanc with accompanying dish recommendations by Prince.

3. Raka Petit Verdot

4. Raka Spliced 2012

5. And lastly (and my favourite of the evening)... Raka's flagship wine - Sangiovese 2012

On the red's side, Biggie and Sindiso presented the recommendations for pairing, with Brighton educating us on Alpine's legendary dry aged steaks (which will be in my recommendations below).

Onto the food and menu offerings: this little local is worth the drive if you are craving good Italian food and I could not believe the excellent value-for-money that I received from their menu options in portions, taste and price.

Service: To me, good, knowledgeable service from waiters is hard to come by. Sindiso was a 10/10 and I was incredibly impressed with his attentiveness all throughout the evening. For that reason, this restaurants rating goes up to a 4.5 for me.

*Recommendation: Alpine's claim to fame is their melt-in-your-mouth, 21 day dry aged steaks served with a demi -glace and roasted bone marrow.. And I will be back to sample it soon!
Michael Morton
Always drove past Alpine, was never too sure what it was all about. I'm glad after reading a couple reviews on Zomato we gave it a try! We had the pork belly which was a massive portion which made for a good lunch the next day! service was good.. Deck outside is really nice! Will be back!
Greg Marcia
We went for lunch to try the new Abyssinian menu at this one of my favourite "meat spots". After asking for some advice on the options we settelef on an assortment of dishes to share. The food was interesting and tasy and we were pleasently supprised with the offering. The service is good as normal.
29th Jan 2016
Decided it is time to re confirm the status of the restaurant.
For the meat eater this is bliss. And the alternative menu is also great. 🍮😂
Shaun Naggan
I have often passed this restaurant on the way to work and play, and decided that I had to try it. I went here for a Sunday afternoon lunch at short notice. There were few diners at that moment but this had nothing to do with the quality of food that awaited.

The menu is extensive and as the name suggests offers the usual alpine fare, German, Swiss, Italian and Bulgarian meals. There is another menu which is not published online which offers an Abyssinian menu. The menu took some time to go through.

My dining companion chose the bone marrow starter and I had the livers starter. She then progressed to the oxtail and I had the lamb burger. The portions are large and wholesome. The bone marrow was delicious and so too the chicken livers which were consumed with gusto. The lamb was tender and easily consumed despite the generous portion sizes. My companion enjoyed the oxtail but had to get a takeaway given the other elements consumed. There is an alpine butchery next to the restaurant and this shows in the freshness of the fare.

I have paid more for meals previously but Alpine outdoes restaurants which are pricier but cannot come close in terms of the quality of meal. The fact that it's a neighborhood gem will definitely lead to repeat visits. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgable on the menu. There is a wide selection of wine and spirits - the beer menu is the only one that could have a slightly wider variety.

All in all an excellent experience :-)
Scooby Barnard
Good food at a good price, it really felt like we were dining at a fancy restaurant until the bill came. It's so affordable to eat here like a king. The meat is always cooked to perfection and their pizza is actually the BOMB. Don't be scared to order a pizza here, they really don't disappoint.
Nicole Kruger
Amazing food every time we go there. We have tried just about everything on the menu and I love all the food. Great service and lots of smiles always. Highly suggest the Pork Belly and Carbonara pasta dishes. Good wine selections.
Melinda
Best beef fillet you will ever have! They serve it with bone marrow and have interesting side dishes to choose from. The wine sommelier is excellent and the service is consistently good
Madherbz
I've been here many times and always love coming here. The aesthetic is clean and simple but the food is rich and well prepared. The restaurant is great for all occasions with a broad but not overwhelmed menu and solid wine list.
Shannon Aerts
My first experience at Alpine Restaurant was a special one. While the atmosphere may lack a bit, the service was great and the food exceptional. I Had the fillet which was one of the best cuts of meat I've ever had and my dining partner had the pork ribs, which were equally high quality, probably attributable to the fact that Alpine is also a butchery that runs in the day. I knew I was in for a treat (I was craving a good steak). One of my favorite aspects of the meal was the option to choose 2 side dishes from their excellent selection (the gorgonzola broccoli gratin, trust me). While the menu was not cheap, you get what you pay for. An overall lovely first time, I will definitely be returning đŸ‘đŸ».

Good restaurant with friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed the tasty peppadew pizza and chocolate fondant for dessert. The chocolate fondant was the best I'd had, Wow! A really great wine selection and friendly staff.
Pascale Prinsloo
Great little restaurant lots of tasty variety on the menu . Carbonara was great . I Had the creme brullee would have prefered the Amarula cooked into the dessert as opposed to a shot on the side . Overall s great experience
Kelsy Moodley
We had supper here. There is quite a lot of choice in this small restaurant. I had the lamb shank. It was well prepared but the flavours could have been better. But the chocolate fondant is unbelievable... By far the best I've ever had. I wouldn't mind coming here again just for another serving of that fondant.
Alma Prinsloo Pentz
Good food! We waited a while, but it was worth it! My husband had the fillet, I had the pork schnitzel - lovely! Owners and their staff are friendly and hands onn. Keep it up. ( I would love a candle on the table though). :)
Anina
We stumble upon this gem! Very good burgers! Next time we will be coming for the 25day dried mature steaks! Good wine selection! Friendly staff and all meat comes out of the butchery next door!
Izoldevs
Best steak in town! The 300g fillet is my absolute favorite. Friendly and helpful waiters. I take all my family and friends visiting for the first time there - they never disappoint!
Denzil Naggan
All the reviews on Zomato are spot on with this place! I had the Lamb shank and it was on of the best I have had in JHB, and cheap compared to other places. My partner had initially ordered the sirloin however it was not matured properly and was not a great piece of meat, the manager was exceptional in apologizing and replaced it with a perfectly done Fillet. The excellent service from the manager overshadowed the waiter. Will be going back very soon!
Brandon
Alpine is by far my favorite restaurant in gauteng in terms of big eating and meat, you need to try the panko prawns, they are absolutely amazing and you will find yourself wanting more and more. The steaks are melt in your mouth good and you should also try the chips with feta also amazing. I ha e been to alpine 6 tines thus year alone and I have brought friends and family with me, we all agree it is one of the best eating restaurants we have been to. Big thumbs up to the Bulgarians and their butchery for the fantastic meat.
Nicole
They do a very very good Eisbein! Interesting side dishes too. There are quite a few Bulgarian dishes on the menu too. I'll be back to try something else!
Sergio Michele Acquisto
We have now been to Alpine twice in the last month.
Both times we have enjoyed ourselves and left feeling satisfied . I have said before that good old hospitality is important to me.
Alpine does not have the best setting or decor , has clientele with noisy children but no child facility .
But at Alpine you feel hosted, that your patronage is important . So you are offered tasters, a look around the butchery and a sense of humility, with their product and offering .the staff engage with you.
Patrons are regular, cosmopolitan and interactive.
My dad being from Eritrea, we enjoy the Abyssinian addition to the menu.
The prices are very reasonable, portions substantial and the quality of meat we had very good!
I also enjoyed the variety of side dishes as well... Bone marrow, broccoli with Gorgonzola etc
Chanel White
This is definitely my husband's favourite spot close to home. The meat dishes never disappoint and there are various interesting sides to choose from notably a blue cheese and broccoli bake and chips with grated feta. Portions are very generous- so go hungry. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Wine's are extensive and always served at the perfect temperature.
Another extra is really well priced breakfasts and delicious coffee! Alpine is definitely a hidden gem! Although hesitant at first, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience and will certainly be back! The selection of wines is fantastic. The owner definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to choosing wine for his restaurant. We had a fantastic Ken Forrester red blend (wines are also reasonably priced). Great wines by the glass as well.

Something that isn't mentioned in any of the other reviews is that Alpine has their normal menu, but they also have an Abyssinian menu (Ethiopian food) which is FANTASTIC! Theres an Ethiopian lady who specially prepares these dishes. I had the lamb with injera which was perfectly prepared, tender and the flavours were perfect! We also had the prawns for a starter and the chocolate fondant for dessert. There was nothing that I didn't enjoy. Portion sizes are very big! You might be able to get away with sharing dishes between a group of people (especially if ordering from the Abyssinian menu).

The owner, manager and waiters are also super welcoming and go out of their way to ensure you have a memorable dining experience. They are in the process of updating their menu (which I do think needs to be a bit more organised) and I personally think they could do with changing the decor (as its very simple). Food, wine and service are phenomenal. Highly recommended

Went with a large group, just over 20 people for a work lunch. The restauant wasn't busy and were there for hours. The food was just average. We really enjoyed the Focaccia. They serve really good quality olive oil. I can also recommend the chicken liver starter. The chorizo starter is just sliced up sausage that is fried and served with bread. It was just oily and tasteless. The ribs were horrible. Tasted like they'd been boiled and then basted in tomato sauce. They were fatty and didn't even have a slight char-grill. We were very disappointed as we had heard such great things about this place. The full baby chicken was good and they have an excellent international wine list. I didn't really enjoy the creme brulee either. They are very well priced.

Unfortunately this place doens't really cater for vegetarians. There is quite a limited variety of meals when it comes to lunch or dinner. It would be nice to see such an improvement on their menu to cater for us as I was disappointed with this. Hopefully they will improve this variety on their menu. The pizza that I had was below average and a bit soggy. Meat eaters in our group of friends enjoyed their meal here including the marrow bone that was served with their their selected cut of meat.

I've never had Bulgarian steak before and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main meals come in healthy (man-sized) portions all meats are well prepared and and come with Demi-glacé and roasted bone marrow(not for those who suffer from high cholesterol) Alpine also has a nice selection of wines to choose from. The restaurant itself is really relaxed and staff is friendly, although the food took a little long. All round I had a great experience.

This was my first visit.
This restaurant must be wonderful in summer with it's outside sitting area. In winter because it's too cold to sit outside one (perhaps) has to sit inside which is a bit austere. And I should think it could be very noisy when full -but a lot of people like that these days.
The manager was there who could not have been more helpful. He is an asset to that restaurant.
My friend had a fillet and I had the rib eye. Both excellent and tender.
For pudding: he had the cheese cake which he said was very good. I had the chocolate fondant..10/10. The best I have ever had. The coffee was also excellent.
The wine list is very good and the wine is kept in a temperature controlled room.
Rated on the food we had, the restaurant must be 4.5 but I found the waiters a bit sloppy.
All that said I'm going back at some stage to try their crispy eisbein and another helping of the chocolate fondant!
PS I went back today to try the crispy eisbein.
It was outstanding. Maybe this restaurant is worth a 4.5

Nothing can be said about Alpine that you can't figure out for yourself after your first bite. The quality is superior and never fails to be delicious. The owner treats you like family and the staff all great. By far one of my favourite places for a meal no matter what the time of day.

If only I could take a bath in their prawns! It is so delicious. One thing you need to know is that the portions are huge, adding some salad/chips to the starter of prawns is basically a main meal. But luckily for them I was born with a rare case of "stuff my face til my belly button pops put" syndrome :)

The steaks are great, and you can choose any 2 sides off of their menu ranging from hand cut chips to caramelized beetroot. Trust me, 2 sides are quite a lot and a can rarely finish my entire plate, ever. And this girl can eat. All steaks are accompanied by two large marrow bones for those who love the marrow melting into their meat. Not my favourite, so I just put them aside.

If I could personally take everyone to Alpine I would, but at the same time, I want to keep them all to myself :)

When you've got a man with a beautifully thick bulgarian accent greeting you and making small talk about the world cup you have an inkling of the kind of evening you're in for!
Alpine is a great little spot at the top of Conrad drive in Blairgowrie/Randburg with a butchery attached to the restaurant.
The owner is an old friend of my dads (from the German shepard dog club?) and is actively involved in the day to day runnings of the restaurant.
They boast a well balanced menu and their claim to fame is their collection of 21-day matured cuts of meat (prepared in the butchery next door).
They boast an extensive selection of wines housed in a very fancy temperature controlled fridge/room which forms one of the restaurants walls, a very nice little feature - We indulged in a bottle of wine called "The Churchyard".
I enjoyed a starter of prawns (at a steak restaurant, go figure) - which was just absolutely phenomenal, with some delightful mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce while my parents each enjoyed their own carpaccio, which was thinly sliced and look exceptionally appetising.
Main meals were were healthy portions of beautifully prepared meat, between us we had, prime rib, pork chops and fillet - the cuts of meat were impeccable and their preparation was second to none!
A chocolate fondant and cappuccino to round off the evening never goes astray!

What I love about Alpine though, apart from the amazing food, is the look and feel, it's a well lit cosy little restaurant and the staff are polite, well trained and all round nice guys whilst the owner (Simeon) and his managers are authentic europeans with that warm homely "you must enjoy" attitude that adds to the experience.

I really would recommend this place for dinner and the butchery for your fresh cuts of meat!

Conveniently located in a center with lots of parking, this is a great spot for lunch - especially business lunches. Quite a broad menu but their top dishes are their steaks (being part of the Alpine Butchery) is a big help. Their steaks are dry aged and served with a wide choice of sides and marrow bones on the side. The menu also features other meat dishes, pizza's, great salads and some Bulgarian specialities. Friendly staff and a fantastic wine list top off the great experience.

Epic fillet, beautifully presented, probably best in Joburg. Bone marrow add-on puts it in another class.

Great vibe. Like the setting. Nice waiters and good service. The food is robust. You wont walk away hungry. A little pricey.

Great service ! Amazing Burger , just shy of the best you can get in jo'burg , the only problem I do have with alpine is that they lack atmosphere , and the proper dry aged steak the claim to serve is eluding them too .

Just to update ... Alpine scores quite high on the eggs benni scale , well poached eggs , good hollandaise! ( I would have liked it a bit more lemony , but otherwise it is rich and buttery like it is supposed to be ) and the coffee is not to shabby either.â˜ș
I have been going to Alpine almost since it has been opened. I love it! Te food is absolutely delicious. Fine dining but with a fair amount of food. Staff and owners are friendly and very welcoming.
I suggest the Pork Chops meal to everyone who loves a good pork chop meal. And you get 2 side dishes, I suggest the Gorgonzola cheese and broccoli. It tastes amazing.

The 2 things I could complain about Alpine are that the prices are a bit high and the menu has not changed for long.

But I recommend it for a date night, family dinner night and even with friends or birthday celebrations!

Excellent steak and the sides are fantastic. Even the soup is good. The wine list is exceptional. Although the Etonian mess is lacking one ingredient the fact that they have Afogato on the menu shows the quality of the place . All in all really good and somewhere I've been again and again

Alpine is easily one of my favorite places to eat in the area. The menu covers all bases, as there is something for everyone; ranging from pizzas and pastas, to steaks, burgers, and fish. There is also a section specifically for Bulgarian food.

I have had both the rump, and the aniseed lamb shank. Both exceptional meals which blew me away(the steaks come with massive marrow bones, for those in to that sort of thing). Those with a sweet tooth are also well looked after. I have tried the berry crumble, eton mess, and chocolate fondant, which were all far above my expectations.

Lastly, I must mention that the wine list is something to behold. I am very fond of having wine with my meal, and most wine lists I look at end up being extremely unimpressive. Alpine, however, has the best wine selection I have ever seen at a restaurant ( and fairly priced too). They stock not only the local wines, but French wine too.

I recommend Alpine to anyone looking to enjoy a fantastic meal, washed down with a good wine.
