Review Urban Angel Cafe - Randburg

Riekert Strydom
Cosy place with friendly staff and decent food. The menu has a great selection and they offer non dairy options like almond, soy and coconut milk. Food is fairly priced and they have good portions sizes. Unfortunately the pork sausages were raw and it took some time to get the attention of a waiter. Overall good experience and would probably be back.

Had a fantastic pot pie dish and wife had a wrapped chicken fillet. Both very good. Come here around 2 to 3 times a month. Food is generally delicious and sometimes the specials are exceptional like the pot pie on this visit. Took a little longer than usual but was exceptional. Had a nut butter smoothie and this was a bit oily tasting. Their smoothies of late dnt seem as good as previously.

Food is great, love the atmosphere, coffee is awesome. Would love big cappucinnos though... Service match the food, waiters are trained well. Would definitely visit again.

One of my favorite brunch spots in Johannesburg. The food always looks amazing and tastes great.

Combine early opening hours (7am on a Sunday), great healthy options on the menu and friendly staff for a wonderful experience I had the cauliflower and zucchini rosti - a deliciously healthy option for breakfast. The team is very friendly and really makes this a special experience. Definitely worth frequenting regularly - have a meal, buy some of the healthy products on offer and choose something delicious from the freshly baked goods on offer

Awesome restaurant/cafe with great service and even better food. Great place to visit if you are into health eating, but they also indulge those of us who are not so much into health eating

Urban Angel is a delight! Everytime I come here I have the best food! Today’s flapjack stack with bacon and halloumi was delicious!

The food is unbelievable. This place is a hidden gem. Highly recommended.

Lovely fresh food! And a lot of less healthy temptations

The food was very good and quite affordable. All in all enjoyed the experience. It also has very nice ambiance.

Very disappointing, we were a party of 4 the service is very slow. The pasta dishes two people ordered was quite inedible dried out over cooked, crusty & soaked in oil. Appalling. The salmon wrap was ok, had lots of filling & avocado. We ordered deserts to share & coffee, the coffee was brought long before the deserts, we waited about 20 mins after the coffee for the deserts to arrive. They were well presented & tasty. No manager came to the table once we complained. All in all will not go back.

This place is nice little spot for a easy lunch. The food is great and the waiters are super quick with everything. However, there are NO proper ladies toilets. When I looked for the ladies I was directed to the staff loo's that were dirty and I could not lock the door. In fact, the door did not even have a handle. And the seat was filthy. I ordered pasta and had to ask for a spoon. You have to give a spoon as part of the cutlery when someone orders pasta. We then got a Pecan pie and brownie to take away for dessert - absolutely delish! We will definitely be back but please sort out your restrooms.

We had a delightful meal. A little gem hidden in Boskruin with a really interesting menu and good service. Some items were a bit overpriced but overall we were impressed.

Perfect restaurant to suit most dietary requirements; they have your standard breakfast items and healthier items. The staff are friendly and happy to accommodate requirements. Every table also gets a free jug of water to start off with. I went for the golden milk latte and the cauliflower and halloumi rosti. Both were delicious. Food and drinks do take a while to arrive, so its best not to be in a rush, the wait for me was worth it. I will definitely be back to try out some of their other breakfast options.

Met friends for brunch today. I had the Bruschetta. Three slices - each with different toppings. It was really awesome! Would have given a 5 rating except for the fact that my friend and I always have a "cappuccino in a cone" and unfortunately there were no cones in stock! Next time maybe a 5!
Candice
Fantastic food and fantastic service! Everything on the menu is healthy and done in such a unique way. My favourite breakfast spot. The are very busy often but always willing to make a plan and fit you in.

Everything is average and decent. Friendly service. I wasn't blown away by any of the cakes, pastries or other desserts which are all competently made.
Lynette Scafturis
I ordered the cauliflower and bacon Rosti. It was delicious! This place has a good vibe and is buzzing with activity. The staff were attentive and brought us water without us having to ask for it. I’m keen to go back and try some other things on their menu. They are relocating on the 25th and will reopen for business on the 30th I’m Randpark Ridge. More space is definitely advantageous for them

I'm not a veggie but have tried a few *what I believe is vegetarian* and loved the meals.
Small place but they take care if the customers and keep going back for breakie

I've found what have been searching for a long time, a cosy neighborhood hidden gem. My wife and I decided to try this place after eyeing it for quite some time. We got breakfast for a hungry man and picky-eater wife. The healthy eating option was just as decilious as the hearty ones. Honestly, we were just blown away by the amazing food, great staff and attention to detail. This restaurant is our new favorite and we'll definitely be back, several times.

This cafe is not obvious to find even with GPS as located in office park and not shopping centre. We came post race for some breakfast.I had falafel sandwich and my friends haloumi with eggs, both meals delicious and service friendly and good.Coffee good too,we even took some baked treats home.

Urban Angel is on of my favourite breakfast places in Johannesburg — such a hidden gem.

Quietly tucked away in an office park next to Boskruin shopping centre, Urban Angel is the ultimate low-key hangout.

The last time I visited, I had the eggs bennedict which was just fantastic. The eggs were perfectly soft and the hollandaise was amazing. The portion size was also very generous.

The flat white I ordered was served at the right temperature, full-bodied, and rich in flavour.

Urban Angel never disappoints!

Good healthy variety of food in a casual environment. Now also has an outdoor area under trees and a wine menu.
Love it, but why use plastic straws, guys??
Kerry Garden
We had Brilliant as our waiter and he was brilliant. Our table was large and he was super attentive and knew who ordered what and that can be hard with large tables.
The food looks and tastes delicious. Everyone loved their food.
I wish you were in my office park
Keegan Kruger
when me and my familey walked in donald helped us and he was lovely everyone there is lovley the food was the best but its a bit hidene away
Howard
Great friendly service. Food presentation is excellent and the food cooked to perfection. Even as busy as they were there was not a long wait for my food.
Ellie
This is simply the best breakfast spot in the area. Try the green smoothie for adventure, the Eggs Benedict for comfort or the baby marrow rosti for a yummy banting friendly meal.

The location is extremely odd - but once you find them you’ll always want to go back.
Elsabé Birkenmayer
Interesting menu, delicious food, reasonably priced and the service is good. The only downside is that it is noisy: the open kitchen, coffee machine and fridges all contribute to the noise.
Candice Lowe
We took our 5 year old daughter with us. She loved being able to see into the kitchen and chat to the chef while he prepared our food.

Staff were friendly and very considerate of our daughter. They offered to bring her food before ours.

We ordered the Adam special (an off menu item). It surpassed our expectations! The steak was cooked to perfection (I asked for medium rare and got exactly that). The flavours and presentation were excellent. It was well priced too.

I'd highly recommend dessert. We were full but grabbed churros and mini apple pies from the bakery to take home. For kids, the gingerbread men are better than anywhere else.

My only criticism of Urban Angel Cafe is the decor. It is simple and tasteful but a little worn out.
Russell Kimble
One of the best hidden gems in Joberg , great food and service and a quaint setting. Starters are amazing and a small but good wine list . Really interesting menu
Sven Hemphill
Had a great time, the main and desert was absolutely wonderful, Simangele, Amanda (head chef) and Lungile (manager) were all fantastic- definitely coming back!

What a shame. This place used to be great, but we made the mistake of visiting Urban Angel on a Monday afternoon for lunch.

The usual owner(s) and chef was not there. The day-staff seem as interested in making the "handcrafted food" as a McDonald's employee is adding cheese to your burger. Zero passion. Zero interest.

The service was slower than usual as well (by country miles) which is saying something since long waiting times is the norm at Urban Angel, with the twist that it used to be worth the wait. Used to be being key words here which seems to summarize the current state of the establishment.

If the owners want to save this place from disaster they need to realize that their day-staff is NOT qualified or interested in providing the same service and food as they are. Passion is not that easily transferred. If you plan on running your store on "autopilot" with your day-staff, you're in for a nasty shock.
Bhakti
I had the most amazing dessert here, it was on the specials board, a combination of bread pudding and something else, would definitely come back for more. However I was unimpressed by the vegetarian options as most things had eggs in them and as a non egg eating vegetarian, I was left to eat a toasted cheese sandwich which was average, as expected.
Bianca
The coffee here is great! Nice to see a barista making it. I ordered an apple crumble tart with my cuppuchino it was lovely. The place is really nice with beautiful decor and vibe. Will definitely be back
Gerlind
This Restaurant has the most amazing food and menu IF YOU ARE PREPARED TO PUT UP WITH POOR SERVICE AND AN INCREDIBLY LONG WAIT. Today was the second time that we had to deal with poorly trained staff, very long wait. Simply inexcusable in a competitive environment. Sadly we won't be back. Good food is also served elsewhere
Seanene Renze
Food was amazing. Very nice place. Services was not of the best but ut worked for the time we were there. Will definitely return. Keep up the awesomeness.
Edgy Veggie
Very tasty food, service is quite disappointing. I just think there needs to be one more chef, because I was here with my family and we waited over an hour for our food. The waiter brought the incorrect order...

Will not be back...

Food: 4/5
Service: 2/5
Waiting time: 2/5

I just love this place, the food, the coffee, the croissants, the friendly service from the staff and owners. It is also now my new coffee and croissants hangout!!! The wine pairing dinner was the best, from starters to mains and in between mains to the dessert, everything was just perfect!!!!

I recently attended a breakfast with some fellow foodies at Urban Angel Café. Urban Angel Café is based in an office park in Boskruin. Having never been before, I was pleasantly surprised. Urban Angel Café boasts freshly baked pastries, raw juices and a variety of cooked meals (with some healthy options as well). To start, we were treated to some delicious croissants, apple Danish pastries, cinnamon buns and muffins along with Urban Angel Café’s very own homemade jam and marmalade. The pastries were freshly made a few hours before our arrival for breakfast. That was very evident; still warm and soft. The almond croissants were absolutely heavenly! Honestly speaking, one of the best croissants I’ve tasted. I ordered the cauliflower and bacon rosti as my warm cooked meal. This was a crispy cauliflower and zucchini rosti topped with fresh avocado and streaky bacon. While I personally prefer a more traditional potato rosti, this breakfast was really enjoyable (it’s definitely a plus for anyone who’d like to reduce their carb intake). The portion sizes at Urban Angel Café were most certainly generous. I had delicious avocado towering my rosti! Definitely great value for money! I also tried one of Urban Angel Café’s raw juices, Liquid Sunshine. This was a mix of pineapple, lemon, apple and cucumber and it was really tasty. Loved the combination of these flavours.

We often head out to this tucked away bakery and cafe. The food is outstanding all cooked fresh with the highest quality of organic and natural ingredients.

22.04.2017 I was invited to a breakfast meetup hosted by my friend Lara De Matos along with some other new and old foodie friends. Its situated in an office block, so it doesnt seem a bit off the beaten track, but i managed to find it rather easy coming from the far east.

We were welcomed by friendly staff at the entrance and shown to our table in the corner which was already adorned with freshly prepared delectable goodies to feast on. Everything looked amazing, the Chocolate Croissants, the Almond Croissants, the Cheesecake Muffins, and the rest of the pastries.

All are made fresh by Ian (if memory serves me well) and his capable team. After that we were given an option of 6 different breakfast options i.e. Buttermilk Flapjack stack, Cauliflower & Bacon Rosti, Cauliflower and Haloumi Rosti, Eggs Benedict, Croque Madam or a Vegetable hash. The Cauliflower and Bacon Rosti caught my attention, and i am so glad i took it. Amazing presentation Crispy Cauliflower & Zucchini Rosti topped with Avocado, Streaky bacon (fried crispy on request), and a poached Egg (medium on request). I always love it when i dont need to add extra seasoning everything was cooked perfectly. I also tried their Raw juices, the "Liquid Sunshine" (Pineapple, Lemon, Apple and Cucumber) served chilled, and definitely a winner.

Lovely spot for breakfast or any other meal i am sure, and if you have a sweet tooth then this is the place to visit. A bit far out for me, but would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for a lovely morning, #JFWxUrbanAngelCafe

Had a takeaway chicken salad that was way overpriced for what it was. Despite this place being situated conveniently in my area I'm not in a rush to return. Their wine-paired dinners look interesting though.

Urban Angel Cafe is a somewhat hidden gem of a cafè. Located in an office park with the entrance to the office park being within the parking lot of Boskruin Village shopping center, it's not really a place you would find unless your mission was to find it as there isn't much that visually helps it stand out or advertises it.

We had coffee and tried the Southern Fried Chicken sandwich and the Slow Roast Pork Belly sandwich. Both sandwiches were tasty, and flavoursome, but the Southern fried chicken was the favourite. The coated chicken breast was crisp on the outside yet tender on the inside and the chips were freshly fried too. Both sandwiches chosen are probably too rich to categorize as a light meal and the portions were more than adequate, thus ranking it well on value and pricing.

Our waiter was wonderful, great with suggestions and always checking up on us and updating us on our order as the food took a bit longer than expected. This is definitely a place to try out for brunch or lunch if you haven't already!

Awesome little spot in Boskruin, their own rye bread is delicious. Have been there now on several occasions and each time food was fresh and tasty. Really good value for money . Their salted caramel chocolate tart is to die for ! Service can be a bit slow at times but they really do have a great team there. Great coffee too. Free wi-fi.

Lovely little find in Joburg, we absolutely loved this little corner cafe. The food was tasty and really interesting menu to keep you coming back. The pork belly beautiful!!

My family and I frequently go to Urban Angel, we all love the food and find the menu different to typical restaurant food. The staff are friendly and usually very efficient. We are all vegetarians so the fact that their menu has quite a few vegetarian options is fantastic! They are also willingly to adapt menu items to make them vegetarian. However, they have an item on their breakfast menu marked as " Veggie Brekkie Board" which is marked as a vegetarian option yet this item contains salmon. Vegetarians do not eat fish ( vegetarians eat no animals), where as pescatarians would eat fish ( the only animal meat a pescatarian eats is fish). It would be appreciated if either the vegetarian marking is taken off this item or the name of the item is changed :)

Best coffee, best cookies, best doughnuts, best raw juices, best flapjacks, best eggs benedicts, best breakfasts! We come here nearly every week! 🍩🍪☕️

Urban Angel is such a kiff place! The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is fresh and delicious and presented beautifully. It's definitely not your average cafe-it has a lovely artisan feel to it.
HOWEVER... we ordered some of their yummy-looking pastries on the way out, and we're super disappointed. Only one and a half of the three doughnuts were consumed because they tasted like rubber, and the doughnut tasted like it was weeks old... not good. But other then that, we loved Urban Angel.

Yesterday I visited Urban Angel with my daughter for lunch. The waitress was not familiar with the menu and when asked what acai was, we were greeted with a blank look and a guess (which was wrong) to which she eventually said 'oh I think it is some sort of powder'.

My daughter ordered a dish of quinoa and apple slaw for R60. When it arrived after some wait, it was no bigger than a very small side plate containing quinoa, grated apple (about 1/4 of an apple) and there was literally about 7 tablespoons of food. I asked the waitress when she brought it 'is this it?" as I thought maybe this was an appetizer (it wasn't, it was a full menu dish), she just gave me a glare and walked off.

What a rip off! Being health orientated people we understand that quinoa can be slightly more expensive than some items however I can assure you it is not, R1000 per kg which if you do the Math using the quantity supplied that is what it roughly calculates to. I don't mind paying a bit more for Health items but don't think all customers are idiots. At least present it on a decent sized plate and try to brush it off as Nouveau Cuisine! at least then you could have some excuse.

You won't be seeing me there ever again and I will advise friends not to frequent it either.

So much going for it and so disappointing!

This restaurant has lost its way and should be avoided. The servuce was a disaster the order incorrect and food was dry. We ordered a breakfast and after 40 min we enquired where the food was but no response. Then on complaint we received our order with beef instead of bacon because they were out of bacon.

Iv been dying to go to this place cause it's so close to home and it's great to try out something different for date night, first of all I completely forgot to take a picture of my grilled hake and mash as it looked amazing! What I love most about urban angel is their food presentation , fresh ingredients with nothing overlooked and losing its color , my husband ordered the slow roast pork with mash which was also tender and amazing, I love their decor, their service is good, I can't wait to go try something else ! PS their pastries are divine😋

Hidden gem. Home made meals.Focus on organic food.Locally sourced farm fresh produce. Great value. COST EFFECTIVE prices. Freshly made dishes. Simple value for money wine list. Great service and attention to detail.

I have had breakfast here twice and it is a great hidden little gem. Think Parktown comes to Randburg. the food is good and honest, no mass produced M&B rubbish. The owners seem great and they definitely get my support. And oh the coffee is so good. They also sell loads of great organic and banting products.

We stopped at another restaurant for a Sunday breakfast but they were closed. So after a quick Zomato search we ended up going to Urban angel.

What a nice surprise! I have been to the shops nearby plenty but never noticed this restaurant.

The coffee was great. For breakfast we had the a porridge that was loaded with yumminess. It had oats, coconut, banana, dates and nuts. Served warm it was very filling and a great healthy breakfast option. We also had the Croque Madame- it’s a huge breakfast and also very delicious. It is a bit out of the norm for me to have Pork Belly with my eggs for breakfast but the combination was great. This was served on a great fresh sourdough bread.

The restaurant was packed and as a result the service was a bit slow. It was also very noisy which became slightly unpleasant.

There is a table of delicious looking baked goods (the doughnuts look especially good and fresh) and a lot of different health products for sale.

The dishes up on the specials board all sound so good- I will be back to try these.

Anyone tried the wild mushroom risotto? I'm very curious!

Came here for the Food &Wine Friday #WinePairing event, 21st October 2016. And man oh man, was I blown away! This 5 course meal, paired with wine was amazing to say the least! The event was informative, the food was excellent and the ambiance was very cosy. The chef did an outstanding job👏👏👏 will be visiting more often.😊🍴💙

Had lunch today with a friend, had a lovely chicken mayo on rye bread with AMAZING chips. My friend had the pork belly and mash potatoes, deliciousness😀 highly recommend this Gem.

Found a new gem close to the home base.

Found in an office park. The staff is friendly and attentive. The space is small but very accommodating with lovely decor.

The food most certainly the best part of the experience everything perfectly prepared and seasoned to perfection.

The drinks thirst quenching and a nice and interesting selection on hand. A few original items on the menu which is a good thing to see.

Looking forward to heading back there again soon.

Breakfast was awesome. First time at urban angel. Would come here again. What I ordered was exactly what I expected. The service was very professional as well. A bit expensive but okay.

Today was my first visit to Urban Angel after literally over a year of wanting to eat here! I live very far away but today I made the long journey and it was most definitely worth it.
The service is phenomenal, the owners are very hands on and enthusiastic about their business which is always great.
The harvest table is full of the most delicious freshly baked goods- from chocolate tarts to loaves of the most divine bread, all baked on site.
The breakfast menu is one of the best I've seen, with plenty of healthy (vegan, vegetarian, banting) options and more decadent ones like flapjacks and french toast.
My breakfast hash pan was absolutely gorgeous. The homemade rye bread was a total winner.
Everyone else at my table also loved their food and couldn't fault anything.
I cannot wait to come back!

Lovely littlw gem!

Had amaizing breakfast and dinner here in the last two weeks!

The breakfast menu has sooo much 2 choose from so you won't be disappointed:-)

Went through for breakfast after reading excellent reviews about this cafe and was horribly disappointed. Waited a while to be greeted by a waitron and eventually seated ourselves at a table outside. There was then a further wait to be served by an extremely abrupt waitron and we eventually moved to an inside table after our drinks were served. We had to ask for sugar as our table was the only one that did not have a sugar bowl on it, and waited again for that. Whilst taking our orders our waitron continued with her abrupt tone and felt the need to rudely point out prices of everything we wanted to order extra (although prices were on the menu). After bringing this to the managers attention, she continued to give us a sour attitude. We then decided to cancel our orders and leave after finishing our drinks (hot chocolate was watered down and not rich at all). I have never received service bad enough to warrant leaving a restaurant mid meal. This was a terrible experience and my family and I will definitely not go back.

Food 1/5
Service 1/5
Ambience 1/5

Wholesome food, brilliant flavours. The breakfast was outstanding. This "field to fork" philosophy is demonstrated through attention to detail and presentation. Given the location in the Boskruin office park, it is easy to miss.
Jonathan Keytel
Great find! Tucked away in an office park in Boskruin this little bakery had it all - friendly staff, fresh baked goods, great value for money portions and delicious tastes. All in all a great spot to visit.
Adi
Had an amazing breakfast on Sunday morning with the family. The food and service were fantastic. The selection of breakfasts is varied enough to please anyone and have you coming back to try all the amazing sounding combinations as well as some take home treats that are on display from the bakery.
Anne
My favourite breakfast place. Service has its ups and downs, but because I'm a regular, I know who is good and make sure they serve me. Food is just great!!!
Thalia Brummer
My boyfriend and I absolutley adore Urban Angel! Not only can we sit outside with our lil pup but the food and service has never dissapointed! We ate there about 2 weeks ago, we were pup free for a day so we decided to sit inside for once. On the way in you are greeted by smiling waiters, freshly baked goods that are too die for. We sat close to the kitchen so we could watch the cooks do what they do best. As always once seated your waiter brings water with lemon to the table. We then order two STRONG Rockshandys (so lots and lots of bitters). We offered to pay for extra bitters and the thought was brushed aside. On to the best bit, We often have breakfasts here but it was too late for breakfast so lunch was needed. I ordered the Cajun chicken, roasted butternut and parmesan penne pasta. Not only was it R70, which is quite a bargain for an incredible pasta! I have no idea what sauce they put in the dish but WOW WOW WOW! The boyfriend opted for a vegetarian meal the falafel sandwich. Which is also a bargain and is absolutely huge ! I had to steal a bite and I swear I have never tasted such a tasty sandwich in my life before. We also grabbed two ciabatta like rolls and 2 burger rolls, which are freshly made on the premises I will definitely be back for the falafel sandwich as well as their incredible baked goods! We love you Urban Angel!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Urban Angel.

I have been to there a few times for breakfast and it has never let me down. The service is always good and the food is up to standard. Also offers a lovely relaxed atmosphere .
My two breakfast favourites are the cauliflower & bacon rosti & the croque Monsieur with pork belly. I have also tried the nut porridge which was delicious.

Looking forward to trying a few of the lunch and dinner dishes.
Caroline Roditis
We went here on Sunday after reading rave reviews. Unfortunately the poor service ruins the whole experience. There are so many waiters yet not one particular one assigned to your table therefore the whole time you are overlooked.

Furthermore cappuccinos are not served in a heat proof glass (would rather have it served in a cup so it can be held)! We were not offered any more drinks after initial order. My husband had the Croque Madame - it was delicious. I ordered eggs Benedict, and asked for medium eggs, they were rock hard. If you want something sweet you get told to go look at the table and choose something - with no further explanation.

Overall an underwhelming experience from a place that could have potential as the menu options are different.
Kayleigh Wolfe-Coote
I've been here 3 times and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time! The food has always been great, with lots of different options on the menu. The service has been up and down, but overall it is good. I will definitely be visiting there a few more times!😁👍🏻

Great place to find food cooked with pure honesty and sincerely. Not that other places do not but theres a certain feel that makes you think youre in a place that someone has placed pure dedication and heart into. Really good food also :)
My wife and I came for brunch and by the looks of things it's going to be our new regular. Service is prompt and friendly, bustling vibe and the food is excellent. Prices aren't bad either. We'll definitely be back.

Side note: there's a pokestop here :D

Really enjoy eating their food. Something different and fresh it's an must try.. previously was there for a dinner and it was a wine tasting and food pairing with a group, it was specially organised but have to say was delicious and lots of fun. Went back for breakfast and was not disappointed!

Urban Angel is tucked away in an office park, and although I knew it was there it took me a while to actually visit. The food is delicious and you can go there if you are trying to find something healthy or a real treat. Some of my favourites thus far have been the selection of freshly squeezed juices, amazing crumpets and some very interesting porridges.
Melanie Chilwell
Had the pleasure of dining here last night. What a lovely selection on the menu. It suited the whole parties dietary need. They had Banting, vegetarian and vegan options. Will def be back again.
Mariska Van Niekerk
We have breakfast here almost every Saturday! We love it here. The waiters are super friendly and the food is amazing and fresh! I love the banana bread with berries and the hashpan is lovely!
Ewan Dykes
I have stopped for breakfast here a couple of times, I must say, I like the vibe and food is very tasty. Usually have the eggs Benedict but decided to have a simple breakfast made up of scrambled eggs, a slice of toast, a fried tomato and three very small rashers of crispy bacon. Nothing fancy, But was shocked to see the bill when it arrived. R85.00, which isn't a lot of money, but when you compare a breakfast plate at Mugg and Bean for R85.00 the difference is huge!! Literally get double the breakfast. It's a pity because I would of preferred to support Urban Angel but can't justify that, never nice walking out of a place feeling like you have just been had for breakfast!! Hope they see this review as constructive.
Shakeerah Abrahams
Always wanted to have breakfast here since it's so close to home and heard some good reviews..

Was definitely not disappointed, the food was awesome (and just what the doctor ordered after a late Saturday night out) .. I especially loved the poached eggs made to perfection and beans.. Tried a bit of my fellow diners meals and equally great..

The only downside was the service, our waiter was not attentive and took a bit too long to bring through anything we ordered :( Hopefully next time it'll be better and keep up with the standards of the food...
Divingbella19
A delicious hidden gem! Luckily right up the road with extra long open hours make this an excellent find! The healthy, exciting, delicious meals & homemade juices are a must! Breakfast, lunch or supper - the menu is a winner!

Great place! Awesome menu with lots of choices. Lovely waitress. Yummy food. Service was a little slow but nothing major. Will definitely be back!

Tried this cafe for the first time this morning. The level of service was superb. Our waiter, Donald made sure we were well taken care of, had my chai latte within a few minutes after seating. Ordered a Bagel Brekkie, the Bagel was tough could b early finish it although the rest was great. Would definitely go back based on the service and great chai latte, just wouldn't recommend the Bagel to anyone. #FoodieDiaries

I was not aware that Urban Angel Cafe was open in the evenings, but it was a pleasant experience. We shared a Falafel sandwich and Vegetarian Nacho's! It is fresh, yummy and very filling! It was a bit of a bummer that they don't have a liquor license, but the cucumber water and filter coffee were lovely!
C K
A very unexpected and wonderful place considering it is hidden away in what is technically an office park. It has a great family run feel (not sure if that's the case) with a varied and interesting breakfast menu selection. I had the croque madame with wild mushrooms and is probably one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. The sourdough bread and small garnishes like tomato relish and balsamic drops really highlight the other flavours. Service was a bit slow but it was also full so understandable. Coffee packed a punch in a good way.

Breakfast at Urban Angel Cafe:
Sunday morning! Where shall we go for a divine breakfast? Why not Urban Angel- so many of our friends are talking about it. So off we go - hungry with anticipation!!!
And then Urban Angel's reality slapped us across our expectant faces!!!
We sat for at least 10 minutes before were attended to. Menus were brought and our waitress slinked away without even asking if we wanted something to drink. We checked the menus and not a breakfast item to be found (and it was only 10:00!). Once she resurfaced from heaven knows where, we asked if breakfast was no longer being served to which she sheepishly answered "oh I brought you the wrong menus ". Did she at least ask what we may wish to drink? . Once the correct menus were brought we quickly ordered as the clock had now been ticking!
Oops, oops, oops - a full hour before our meals were delivered! Ridiculous!! We had a clear view if the open kitchen where we could clearly witness the chaos. Too few staff, no control being exercised and no overall management!! Eventually, after almost being certified as someone on a starvation diet, our breakfasts were delivered! Whew! The food was excellent - eggs benedict and a full breakfast. My breakfast unfortunately was slipped onto the plate with very little finesse which made its initial appearance look canteenish!!! The flavour however was wonderful. Did it temper our irritation though? No ways!!!!
Then the owner swanned around with an infant straddled to her hip asking us if everything was ok!!!! Ooh bad move - not the asking (that should be a given) but with an infant dribbling on her hip!!!!! Professionalism? Please don't expect to charge me a restaurant price for a meal, keep me waiting over an hour and then treat me as if I have chosen to dine in the child's nursery at your home!!!!! Oh no - my patronage and money deserves a little more respect than that .
So our overall impression: clearly an establishment way in over it's head, a total lack of professional and respectful management, very little staff training or control, a never-to-return experience. A pity because the concept is great, the food quality is excellent, huge opportunities are evident. Our money will never be spent at Urban Angel again!!! My advice to the owners - take a long introspective look at your operation, take the time to train and manage your staff and don't take your customers for granted or a ride!! Your patrons are what keeps you in business. Good luck, I hope you keep your doors open!!!!

What a great restaurant. Went for breakfast at 7am and the staff were smiling and helpful. Oir waiter was well versed in what is good on the menu. The Croque Madame was great. Full of flavour and cooked to perfection. You can see on the chefs tale pride in their food and presentation. Will definitely be going there again this festive season.

Loved everything we ordered here. Simple clutter free decor. Enjoyed the fresh juices , food even coffee with soya milk. All made to perfection. Will be back again soon.

Service is slow, in the past it was quiet good. Standards have definitely slipped. Could be because they've got more popular. It's been 35min and still haven't received my bfast😳

One of the best breakfasts I've had in JNB. everything from the device to the poaching of the eggs was great. Food was delicious, bread is amazing and coffee makes it worth the drive!

Decided to give it a go when in the area.... Dissapointment all round unfortunately, they over promise and under deliver when it comes to flavor and freshness. I wanted the specials but alas the advertised specials were not available. Then opted for the beer batter tempura, craft brewed fish and chips. Portion looked good when it arrived, however the batter is way too thick, and not so crispy at all. Served with minted pea puree and chunky tartar sauce. They had it backwards, the pea "puree" was horrible, peas were undercooked and then blitzed, so prepare for a husky chunky puree
Whereas the chunky tartar was smooth, and tasted very generic.
My partner had the urban angel burger, he was not dissapointed, except no haystack onions were served and also the homemade gherkins were replaces by a small bowl of pickles. These were bland and not appetizing.
Unfortunately with the pricing and the hype expected a lot more from this qt Cafe.

Although I did not have a sit down meal I picked up a coffee to go and some snacks for lunch whilst visit the barber next door. The coffee was sublime and the pulled pork quiche was utterly perfect. Definitely need to go for lunch one day. Great little treats to pick up in store.

Came here for a Sunday morning breakfast. Food was fantastic, coffee was delicious and service was good. A nice simple menu but caters for all. This is now on our radar for many more visits.

While Urban Angel Cafe certainly has a great atmosphere, I am disappointed with the waiting time for the arrival of the food and to get the bill. We flagged the waiter twice to get the bill and after further waiting, we decided to go pay directly at the counter. As for the meal - I had the buttermilk flapjack stack with bacon and eggs and my friend had the (vegetarian) aloo tikki. The food its itself tasted ok without being fantastic. I expected a bit more from the descriptions. While beautifully presented - I found the flapjacks to be too dry even with the added honey. The portion size pretty much matched the pricing. The meal was sufficient being too heavy or pricey. I did find the filter coffee to be quite good.
We did take away some pastries (maple bacon doughnuts and salted caramel tart) to share with family and friends that we were meeting later and these were much better than the "cafe" food. Overall, it was an average experience and I'm not sure if the place is worth another visit if the service stays the same.

A sweet little spot in the middle of a business park. If you sit outside, the view is quite delightful! I had a delicious raw fruit juice with pineapple, mint, apple and pear. The coffee milkshake was great too. My burger came with awesome fresh pickles. If we are in the area again we will definitely stop by. All the food was fresh and delicious and the service was great. My chips were slightly raw.

Excellent food, great venue but have noticed the service from the waiters is starting to drop a bit. A shame, because that is what customers remember.

I've seen just good reviews on Urban Angel. Finally went on Friday and it was so good that I decided to bring my husband today for breakfast. He ordered the Bagel Brekkie with bacon on a toasted bagel with cream cheese topped with two eggs. I had the Hangover Brekkie (minus the hangover). Pork belly served on sourdough bread, mature cheddar cheese and topped with two fried eggs. Both were good. They bring you a jug of water when you arrive which I think is nice and I just like the way they serve their cuppacino. They have such nice options on their menu which I will try next time we go. We did get some take away brownies and rocky roads for tonight.

Great Banting restaurant! Our food was really tasty and they happily substituted mash potato for cauliflower mash! They make their own Banting bread too which you can buy.we had the slow roasted pork which was delicious!

This little homely cafe run by Ian and his well oiled machine is another hidden gem in Joburg.

When working in Joburg I used to come here weekly with colleagues for breakfast and no matter what I ate, I was impressed and so were my colleagues.

Ians personal touch and the friendly helpful waiters go out of the way to accommodate you keep you coming back as they make you feel like family.

The place is always clean, with an open kitchen where you can see your food being prepared. I recommend any of their smoothies, and any of the yummy home baked goodies they have on their table at the till.
Went here today and have to change my review from a few years ago! Cute little coffee shop that sells all these little yummy goodies as well as a lot of healthy stuff(totally down my alley) I had the bringal stack and my friend had their chicken burger, both were delicious! Prices are reasonable for what you are getting, our waiter was good to us. We did have to wait a little bit longer for our food but was worth the wait. I will be back urban angel cafe!

What a pleasant experience. Attentive staff. Great mdnu. We had the eggs Benedict and the pork belly sandwich. Very tasty. Fresh eggs and tasty mature cheddar cheese. Easy one of my best brekkies ever. Then bought baked goods. Bread, quiches and pastries. Well worth it. Highy recommended

Best local breakfast! So good, we've been back 4 times & have never been disappointed! Service is great, slow on the serving side but that may be the price one pays for freshly prepared food, a rare enjoyment in this day & age. Definitely not a quick stop spot...more of an enjoy the environment & great quality food spot!

Had breakfast here this morning and was a little disappointed. I had the buttermilk flapjack stack, which was OK, just quite dry. My main issue was how slow the drinks and food were in coming out. I know it's "slow food" but a 45 minute wait for eggs and flapjacks seems a bit excessive. I had also asked the waitress if the food would be ready within 45 minutes as I needed to leave and she laughed at me. But that's how long it took and I had to wolf it down.

I have passed their advertising banner a million times and not once did the thought cross my mind to try them out until the other day. I thought it being in an office park was a bit off putting but once there I did not find it so troubling. On entering the staff was very friendly and greeted me immediately. There only seems to be one waiter so he had to finish off his other clients first before he got to me. I did not mind to much as I could see he was trying very hard. They have a very 'fresh' menu and most things seem to be made from scratch. I had the vegetable quiche, the pastry was nice but the filling itself was slightly soggy. It came with a very nice vegetable salad. The portions were quite generous and I could not finish it all. I was a bit sceptical when I heard it was kind of a 'health' cafe as that always means NO WINE but they actually do have wine. We also had a bowl of roasted vegetables which was again very fresh and tasty.

I was delighted to hear that all their meat, chicken, bacon are FREE RANGE so next time I will try a meat dish. Taking this into consideration I find their prices very reasonable.

The ambiance is a bit lacking, I dont recall seeing any windows where one can look out so it does appear a bit dark. The waiter's service was very good. Also took home some home made dark chocolate peanut butter. Mix a little bit of this in my oats in the morning and suddenly boring oats are not so boring anymore.

I took my boyfriend here for a quiet Sunday brunch! I absolutely loved everything about this little hidden gem. From the decor, to the menu and the organic food products available to purchase. Unfortunately though the only reason I'm rating it a 3...is the extremely long wait we had to endure.Daryn Stewart

I have been reading all the reviews and was really looking forward to trying this place and I was so happy that it lived up to all the expectations. Everything is organic and fresh and 'clean food' and has a wide selection of Banting friendly options. I had the cauliflower rosti with bacon, avo and poached egg and even tried the raw cacao smoothly with cocoa avo and nut butter, wow, filling, tasty and healthy, love it!

I usually treat myself to a brunch at Urban Angel Cafe in Boskruin when I do my hair as it's right next to Craig & Tammy's Hair Salon. The service is always friendly and super quick and the food is delightful!

They have banting & vegetarian options, a full baked goods option, cafe food, and they serve breakfast all day which is such a win!

The manager on duty always comes to check in with you, which adds a nice touch. Adding sides like avo to your meals is amazing seeing as they don't overcharge you, but do give you a decent portion.

And they have amazing other 'healthy stuff' on sale like Coconut Oil, Gluten Free products and red espresso to mention a few. They also make home made oreo cookies, which are a sweet-tooth's dream!

Who would of thought you could find a gem of a restaurant tucked away in an obscure office park? I certainly didn’t, and since I am always on the lookout for somewhere new to eat in my area, I was so excited when I stumbled across a review in the local paper for Urban Angel Bakery and Cafe in Boskruin Office Park.
