Review Varsity Bakery Restaurant - Pretoria

Have been coming here since the 80s, but haven’t been there in a while. Setup has changed a lot in that it is now more of a takeaway shop that a bakery. They still seem to bake their own buns and pies. Burgers are tasty but a little stodgy. Could also do with a little more of their signature burger sauce.

Eating a Footlong here for the first time again since 1991 ....still tastes the same... awesome memory...I like that they toast the Hotdog roll now...that special Varsity bakery mustard sauce is still a winner 🏆

Varsity moved into the same building as Next To, what and awesome vibe. And was I pleasently suprised, fast service and a nice big portion. Great value for money.

I stop here once every year or so for nostalgic reasons taking me back to the good old days at Tuks. I always have the Special Footlong, like I used to in the nineties. It's still just as good... The new little restaurant is really nicely done.

This is one of the few midnight take away places that you would find, selling fresh food. Almost everything is made on site especially the bread.... obviously its a bakery... But thet also sell some meat products of wixh the ribs are up there with the rest... but keep to the bbq, you won't be disappointed.

Love the new retro upgrade. Food still good if not better!!! Always delicious and fresh.

We have been visiting Varsity Bakery since we were students in the area. Nobody makes a chicken burger like Varsity Bakery - it's not a patty, but a perfectly flame grilled, thick and juicy chicken breast. Tender and soft and melts in your mouth. Beyond delicious. Always excited to return.

Great food specials, aswell as cheap drink specials. Can improve on music played. 10/10 for the R40 philly cheese preggo on mondays and thursdays!! Pairs well with the gin and tonic special. Big ups, good improvement

The food tastes great, but the wings aren't for me personally, it is like they add spices to them after they fry them. I couldn't understand why I could taste raw basting if you get what I mean, but overall, I love the services, they are friendly and their burger and chips are amazing. Just the wings need improvement.

Alternative music, cheapish beer on tap. Great barman. Good food for the price. Typical student bar...I went on a Sunday Afternoon and it was a great spot for a quick beer and a bite

One of the oldest restaurants around UP.. very affordable fast food and the newly added Bar and club.. fro. Wednesday to Saturday, you will love to hang out till late around this area between Jan shoba and Lynnwood streets.. Alot happens here and you may need to check it out as a student. Study hard and play hard.

The place looks very nice, clean and open since the revamp. The menu is easy to navigate. The food is delicious. Never failed me! I only wish for a nicer teller. The one that assisted me was acting like she's doing me a favor. Attitude adjustments is required...

Varsity bakery always had the best pies in Pretoria.....by a long way! But now....I cant say the same for the tasteless mass produced pies that they are selling. It's a shame..

Hearty, genuine food! Good, friendly service and Student friendly prices. I personally love their chicken prego and of course you got to get chips too!

The food was nice but didn’t get what I ordered, I ordered bbq wings and got spicy wings instead then there was no salt and sauces. Only realized it when the delivery guy had already left.

I am normally very happy with the food from varsity bakery but today I was very disappointed in there service. I ordered a burger and when I received it the burger was like ice cold. And I mean when you want a burger you want to enjoy it. I then phone the manager and she was just like "ok I will ask them to warm it up for you" no sorry about it or nothing she didn't even state her name to me I had to ask her if she is the manager. Sorry varsity bakery looks like your services is going down.

Excellent value for money take-aways. I used to frequent Varsity Bakery when I was a student, and decided to do so again tonight - was not disappointed! The special footlong is a must-have. Their slap chips are the best in Pretoria - do try the barbeque chips with mayonnaise and chili sauce.

The chip batty with bacon is definitely a winner, the large burger I don't really like because it makes you feel very naar afterwards. foods are fairly priced.

Varsity Bakery has been my go-to bakery for the past 4 years of my student life.  I am the proud top consumer of their AMAZING Chelsea Buns, which is the only thing keeping my six pack away.  Their food is extremely tasty and home-cooked in front of your eyes, not to mention, their bread is so fresh, it's almost like they're a bakery.  Friendly faces, nice smells, trusted supplier of fruity puffs and provider of stomach butterflies.  Seriously, these people are amazing.  If you call yourself a "lekker" person in Pretoria, but you haven't been to Varsity Bakery, then you're NOT "lekker".

Perfect for a quick bite to eat and suits the student budget. Wide variety in menu options- I personally enjoy their lamb mint pie.

Just what I needed! My girlfriend introduced me to varsity bakery. Just what I needed after last nights end of year function. Try it out! The burgers are goood!

My childhood! We have always gone to varsity bakery for a quick and easy take away! Their foot longs have always been my favourite! The burgers are also really great! I would definitely recommend varsity bakery for those lazy weekends when you don't feel like cooking! The staff have also always been really friendly!<br/>It's a must try!

I have to say that this establishment surprises me everytime when I order take out. Do not underestimate their bakery appearance. Their bunny chow is something worth making the effort to drive there. Their burgers are well balanced and their cupcakes have always been fresh when I was there. The prices are very well suited for students and non-students alike.
