Review Portugalo - Pretoria

Really enjoyed their 'Date Night' special. Good value for money with a 3 course meal and bottle of wine. Good portions and fresh tastes made each dish an experience. Our friendly waiter was attentive but was a bit overwhelmed at the end as the venue started to fill up and became very, very busy.

Tried out this cosy little joint today on my working lunch. Lovely selection of food and drink. Warm and welcoming ambiance. Love the blues, the mosaics, that there's a hotdesking station. The manager is very warm and hugs all the regulars as the arrive, loved that. Also loved their aprons.

Had the lovely pleasure of dining in this restaurant for lunch. Beautiful atmosphere. The staff is quite friendly. Wonderful place for solo and couples dates. They have a date night special running which comprises of a three course meal and complimentary bottle of wine for only R390 per couple

Wonderful authentic Portuguese atmosphere! The place is already bustling with patrons. The lunch special was great and reasonable. The sirloin was soft and juicy and the livers perfect. I also liked the potato chips. The waiters are very friendly, but a bit slow. The coffee was tasty, but unfortunately cold..... The cup was also half full (at least not half empty :)

Stunning decor, good food and a great ambience. We had Mussels to start off, my wife had Portuguese Chicken and I had Chicken and Prawn Curry. Absolutely delicious! Only constructive feedback I’d give is provide steak knives with the chicken.

Devine decor, good food, good service! PortuGalo is a great place to bring a loved one, a date or some colleagues for a swanky yet laid-back experience. The menu is interesting and varied and the food quality has been superb each time. Waiter has been generous in suggesting delicious substitutions for a fussy eater. Can't wait to go back. A must visit in Brooklyn Square.

I only give a 5* review when it is deserved. This restaurant deserves it! "Quick lunch" was definitely worth it. I hope more people visit, regularly. Everything was sparkling clean and the interior is beautiful. And the food perfect.

Beautiful restaurant, the manager explained each dish to us and how it's prepared. He took me on a delicious culinary journey 😋. Thank you for the awesome customer service 🌹

Holy moly! What a lovely experience. This is our second visit in 2 weeks and we chose to come back a second time because of the wonderful food and experience we had the first time. First time we had the sirloin and chicken liver lunch special. So delicious! This time we had the half chicken and calamari, just as special. What really blew our minds was the Trinchado starter. My oh my... If sauce could taste like perfection... This is it. Last time, my husband had the lime mousse for dessert and it was one of the reasons we came back, because I was dreaming about it! He had the chocolate mousse this time and it was made properly with cream and melted chocolate. Just a wonderful experience. Great service from Bongani and Faith! Will definitely come again. Ps.... I hear they are refreshing the menu! Tempt me not!!!

Tasty and fresh food. Waiters just need to upsell at tables. Very tranquil atmosphere.

Craving some good homemade type Portuguese food? Look no further Pretoria Peeps, @Portugalo has come to the rescue. Situated in Brooklyn Square, it has a nice cozy setup, with inside and outside seating – perfect for the upcoming summer months. A group of us got treated to a variety of items off the menu for starters, mains and dessert, and all recipes used were handed down from Mothers to daughters within the family. On arrival we were welcomed with a shot of Ginjinha, although mixed reviews on the taste, I kinda liked it. Thereafter, we had some Portuguese wine that they have on the wine list – Mariana Branco. It’s a white wine with notes of green apple, citrus fruit, and tropical flavours, so its fresh and fruity. Now onto the food, we practically ate the entire menu if you see the list below 😂😂😂 Starters: •Prawn Rissoles - absolutely delicious, you can taste the orawn meat inside it's not just filled with sauce. •Fired Up Chourico - it was definitely on fire. •Grilled Sardines - although tasty it had way too many bones for easy eating. •Portuguese Style calamari - yummy •House Style Mussels - didnt taste this •Chicken Giblets/Livers - sorry I dont eat these •Portuguese Salad – lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, red onions, black olives and Portuguese dressing Mains: •Pork & bean Stew - great flavour •Portuguese Tripe - no thanks I stuck with the normal stew. •Pork Loin with Clams - didnt try this. •Prawns - who doesn't love prawns?? •LM Baby Chicken honestly you can leave me with a plate of chicken with the Milho frito and I'm good to go. •Milho Frito - my favorite with the chicken and my new found love - their Peri sauce.... Amazing. •Round Potato Fries - spicy and carblicious • Whole fish - probably one of my favourites for the evening perfectly spiced, juicy and tender. Desserts: •Pasteis de Nata - who can resist them when freshly baked and that smell just tempts you. We could have eaten many more... •Chocolate Mousse Pudding •Heavenly Cream - Fluffy cream mousse and ‘Maria’ biscuits topped with homemade custard. Loved munching on the Marie biscuit to end off my meal. Stuffed like chickens, we were properly spoilt for choice with food and drinks. The staff were all friendly and helpful during the evening, and they all ready to serve you on arrival. Thanks to everyone for a lovely evening of good laughs, great food and drinks. #TheFoodMusketeer #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TheFoodMusketeerDrinks #TheFoodMusketeerApproved #TFMPortugalo Kriya Gangiah

A great meal, warm atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend the calamari and the custard tartlets.

This place has a nice atmosphere, cozy. The food was nice, average Portuguese flavour, nothing great, nothing really bad. Seafood was a tad overcooked. Average overall and a bit overpriced.

Poor excuse for a Portuguese restaurant - save money and travel to JHb and find yourself a decent gig. Over priced and under flavoured

Had a girls lunch date there and it was fantastic. Two of us had some spicy seafood rice, while the other had a chicken curry. I loved how the food was plated 🥘 giving it a really authentic Portuguese feel. The seafood rice was delicious the only downside is that the crab 🦀 shells were broken so there were bits of shell within the rice. Otherwise a very lovely place, will definitely be returning 😊

Absolutely terrible experience and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They prioritise certain customers above others so people who came into the restaurant after us got their food before we did which is absolutely ridiculous and it's one of the first places where we waited for our food to arrive for over half an hour. A certain individual kept going to all of the tables asking everyone if they were still fine or if they needed anything and not once did he come to ours.

Good food and service at reasonable prices.Their lunch time specials covers a good variety and is real value for money.Dont forget to try the poached pear as desert.Delicious!!

Loved the decor & set up. The menu is extensive with a variety of choices & flavors! The portions are perfect too! And the side salad was generous. We had the beef espetada and rump with chicken livers - flavorsome & cooked excellently! We will definitely be back!
