Review Piccola Italia - Pretoria

This is a great place to come spend some time. Small restaurant that provides fantastic quality. Always happy to visit and eat here. Owners are also very friendly. You can also order takeaways if you're not planning to stay a couple hours. Proper wood fired pizza and incredible pasta dishes.

This is a casual Italian restaurant at Monument Park. It is famous for pizza. We enjoyed Marinara pizza and Aglio olio. Atmosphere is so calming, so it's good for daily use!

Had a romantic dinner there this week! Loved the 'basic' menu. Mainly italian dishes like pasta's and pizza. They do however have a bot of seafood and a few speciality dishes. Well worth a try. Very quiet and cozy, perfect for a small group or just 1 person. Plenty of parking, safe.

Great little Italian restaurant. Various pizzas and pasta dishes. Sometimes the service is a bit slow, but to be fair they were very busy.

Food is always good here. Decor needs some serious attention. A good evening with attentive staff. Veal Limone, Oso Buco always tasty.

Food is great. The restaurant is busy because it is popular, and for good reason. The food is good. But we made a reservation and had to wait for chairs. We had a table, but not enough chairs, weird...

We love Piccola for a bite to eat if you want to avoid crowds. Based in a busy shopping center, and the seating is mostly outside on the pavement so the vibe is low key but they have some of the best pizza in Pretoria. It is best to book ahead as they have limited tables. We love the wine!

Since moving to Pretoria 5 months ago, we had to leave our favourite restaurant behind, which was an Italian joint. So for the past 5 months we've been searching for the replacement, a pizza and pasta place that serves authentic or near authentic italian dishes. We've tried plenty, including the 'new' kids on the block. Eventually we stumbled upon Picola. At last we can resume our tradition of going out for pizza or pasta on a Monday to cure a bit of the blues. Had the carne pizza, fantastic. Also had the olio pasta, very tasty. If I had to be critical, they can definitely benefit from making fresh pasta each day. Thanks Picola, we'll be back.

Spur of the moment stop, and what a pleasant surprise. Me and my mom had a lovely time and really enjoyed the piccolo pizza (added chorizo) with a glass of wine. Authentic Italian taste. Definitely one of the top 5 best tasting pizza places in Pretoria. Would most definitely visit again.

I have been to Piccola Italia several times over the past years and never failed to be disappointed! It is a great little Italian restaurant with extremely hospitable owners and very friendly staff. It does not claim to be the fanciest Italian restaurant in Pretoria, but what it does is deliver authentic Italian food in a very cosy and pleasant atmosphere. And it does that very well. I have lived in Europe for 20 years and find that Piccola Italia gives a true (and very tasty) representation of what Italian food should be like! I would certainly recommend it highly.

We visited this delightful Italian restaurant while on a 5 week holiday in South Africa from the UK Having spent many holidays in Italy we were hoping for authentic home cooking and we weren't disappointed The pizzas were delicious and tasty. The other members of our party enjoyed various pasta dishes and all pronounced them to be excellent. The waitress was friendly and we met one of the owners who was very helpful in advising us where to visit in the local area I only wish we lived nearer as we would definitely become regulars !

Piccola Italia remains one of my favourite eating places in Pretoria. It has a sidewalk street cafe atmosphere which suits the Italian theme and the food matches the cosy atmosphere.
Their monthly wine tasting evenings are also marvellous events with wine pairing menus that always surprise with finely paired dishes.
I will recommend their speciality dishes and pastas, their pizzas have a nice thin base with a generous topping.
It is a small restaurant and I have found that it is preferable to make a reservation, especially on a Friday evening.

Piccola Italia has always been one of my favourite restaurants but the last few times have been extremely disappointing. We booked a table for five for 7:30 yesterday evening but when we arrived there, they didn't even seem to know about it and hastily set one up. Giving credit to the waitress, she really did try to please but the food totally lacked that wow factor, in fact some of it didn't even look appetizing. The arabiato looked like spaghetti bolognaise, the spaghetti and meatballs was covered in mozzarella and the one pork chop I had was under cooked. The pork chops were also supposed to be in a creamy mushroom sauce, needless to say there was nothing creamy about the sauce at all. The owner/ manager was MIA, prefering to sit with friends and drink wine not once did she appear at any of the table to enquire about her customers. The only decent food I would recommend there are their pizzas which still are of good quality.

A very understated little place with a huge heart!

Nestled in a general shopping strip, is this little place- unimpressive in looks but man, are their pizzas good! Do yourself a favor and grab a bite here- you will be smiling!

This is a really small Italian restaurant. The decor and interior is really nothing impressive and neither is the ambience. In fact, I almost walked out.

We were greeted by a friendly young waitress and service was good. There were not many patrons seated at the restaurant at the time. However, I did notice that there were a number of pizza takeaway orders.

Unfortunately, they did not have all the items available as per their menu.

We eventually opted for the chicken peri peri livers with a panino as a starter. The Alfredo pasta and the carne pizza were our mains.

I was pleasantly surprised as to how good the chicken livers and toasted panino were. It was flavorful and really delicious.

The carne pizza was meaty but did not appeal to my taste. The Alfredo tagliatelle was bland.

Overall, a below average dining experience and apart from the chicken livers .......I'm unlikely to return.
Unlike many others, Picola Italia is the real deal. Proper Italian in an unasuming shopping centre in Monument Park. They have outside seating on a leafy sidewalk.
I was there for lunch on a perfect autumn afternoon. From the inside, Césaria Évora crooned - Besame Mucho. Mellow music on a lazy afternoon.
The Martini Rosso in a Martini glass was terrific- layers of ice, soda an lime with spicy sweet Martini coming from beneath.
Penne Paesana - penne al dente with pork mince in creamy spicy tomato sauce. Tasty. Perfect.
Very cute little restaurant with amazing pizzas and friendly service! And to make it even better, they have amazing imported italian wine! Definitely worth every penny!

Such a lovely little restaurant, I have been here a number of times and the food and service is always great. It's run by a local family and the owners are almost always on site, always friendly and always wanting to know how they can assist you.

Was quite surprised about the food and the service. Turned out to be quite okay.

Not enough vegan/vegetarian options, though.....

The bathroom-setup is really a bummer......try to avoid using them.

I receive a warm welcome every time I go there, the fact that I am there 2 times a week shows how special u feel. Good food, very friendly staff, although very slow at times. Very nice little Italian place

Went there with friends. We were surprised at how full the place was. The answer was in the great food. Another bonus was that we were allowed to bring our own wine (corcage must be paid). The only small irritation was that we could not get a receipt out of them. We paid cash.

Great place for homemade pizza and pasta. Owners are friendly, pasta and sauces made fresh. Small, quiet, unassuming place but big on taste and service.
