Review Die Wit Huis - Pretoria

Jaco Swanepoel
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Die Wit Huis and I must say, it was quite a memorable experience. Everything about this place was exceptional. Now, let's get to the best part - the food! The menu boasted a wide array of delectable dishes, each one more enticing than the last. The chef's creativity and attention to detail were clearly evident in every plate presented. I was blown away by the flavors, textures, and unique combinations of ingredients. From the moment you step in until the moment you leave with a satisfied stomach and a smile on your face, this restaurant leaves a lasting impression. The combination of exceptional service, delightful ambiance, and culinary masterpieces make it an absolute must-visit for any food enthusiast.

The staff is friendly and helpful. There is alot of them. Waiting outside. I sat outside, there's ample shade and seating space for large groups. The cocktail serving was 500ml, and they're cheap. The Jalapeño steak was made to perfection. The portions are large. I only had half of it. I love this place, I'd definitely come back with family or friends. It's affordable and I really enjoyed the food.

We love going to Die Withuis. They make good food at an affordable price. Their chefs know how to make the perfect steak and their spinach are the best. We know it is an old, historic building, but it would be great if they could give the place a bit of TLC- some fresh paint on the walls and floor and an upgrade of the restrooms would make it even more of a gem.

Sunday lunch under the tree. Die Wit Huis reminds me of the Sunday lunches we had at Pretoria West Golf Club with my parents and my two grannies; good value for money food in a relaxing atmosphere. It's a traditional bar inside with a sit down patio and area outside. We grabbed lunch after shopping at Lategan & Van Biljoens, just around the corner. Jungle gym for the kids to play. Full service bar with Devils Peak and Black Label draught on tap. "Boerekos" menu, some unique items on the menu like kaaings which you don't get very often. We had pap and vleis and schnitzel with spinach and feta. The kids had chicken strips and ribs. The meat was prepared perfectly and the marinade was amazing. Well priced genarous portions not at all bad for under R500 including drinks and milkshakes. Can imagine that, if we lived in the area, we would be regular visitors. 🙏

A historic house was converted to a restaurant. Speedy service from the waiters and well-priced food. Seating indoors and outdoors under a couple of large trees. A small play area to keep the kids entertained.

Great place with an awesome vibe. We feel like family there and are always treated well and the service is excellent. The bartenders are as good as the curry and rice they serve. Love visiting there .

Was there late to watch 2 nd last Springbok game a week ago, not many visitors at that time.

Great service rendered... Awesome food

The food was excellent! The service could improve by placing more than 1 waiter at a big group of people. Table placements was not so great. Should have placed the tables in a square or circle.... Yet again the food was extremely delicious! Would definitely eat at Die Wit Huis again.

Great food, fun atmosphere outside where kids can play, dads can watch rugby and moms can chat over a nice glass of wine. Waiters are friendly and helpful. Owners walk around checking on guests. The car park is safe and secure.

The nicest part of this restaurant is most probably the fact that you can sit outside under the umbrellas. Mostly good service. Clean restrooms. I recommend this place for both couples and big groups.

I've been here a few times... For breakfast and dinner. Their food is reasonably priced and tastes good. Although their tea and coffee is always luke warm. The service is very slow. And I can never find a clean table when i arrive there. I don't think they have enough waiters. Not the greatest restaurant but if you're on a budget it's good enough.

We have been visiting Die Wit Huis at least once a month since its opening under new management a few years ago and we still enjoy it to date

Dark Chocolate Honey
This is a chilled spot that not many people know about. It has affordable prices with pretty generous portions. I took a Wit Huis burger for takeaway, which was very satisfying

Not even worth a rating. With my first time ever visit I experienced extreme bad and poor service, dirty wet wine glasses and only left overs with buffet menu. Sorry not even the manager was available or reception in front for a quite busy restaurant...if one can all this a restaurant

Arriving at die Withuis one get the feeling that it's not a very sophisticated place. That said, it's a 'REAL' place with real people and the food is really good. The tables outside is a bit inconvenient as small leafs and flowers from the trees keep falling into your food & drinks. My suggestion, get a table on the stoep and you're good to go! Their menu is pleasantly priced and the food is tasty and freshly prepared. Their plating needs more attention. My recommendation? Try their curry, you'll not be disappointed. Thumbs up on food, ambience not that much.

This is mostly a reaction to a previous review.

Noma of Copenhagen this steakhouse ain’t. But you won’t pay Noma’s prices either. We were lucky to get a table for five, since the place was jumping. It was a Friday night and the locals were getting likkered up. We had to wait a while for the waiter. But we laughed it off, writing messages on the dusty table top. We had plenty of fun with the free WIFi as well. (Hence this review.)The menu thoughtfully had an old piece of bread stuck between two pages. I suppose it was meant as an amuse bouche for the hungry, waiting to be served.

The willing waiter did his best, but he could not break the laws of physics. The old South African system, with crowds of part-time middle-class waiters, suckered into working for tips only, is over. The economy is tanking. Eating out well on the cheap is over. Deal with it.

Restaurants now have full-time waiters that have to be paid whether the restaurant is busy or not. They can’t draw from a pool of eager “runners” on busy nights and ditch workers on quiet nights. Diners in the past didn’t care that the “runners” were willing to work many shifts for free, hoping to be employed as waiters at some point. Neither did diners care that the restaurant made waiters pay into a “breakages fund”, effectively taking back any wages they paid the waiter. The happiest moment for many glutted, drunken diners was at the end of an evening, when they stiffed the tired waiter for the tip they had slaved hours for.

The food presentation here is more Jackson Pollock than Michael Angelo. The huge portions are simply dumped onto your overfilled plate. You won’t find precious “Nouvelle Cuisine” artworks, featuring a lonely, sculpted carrot lozenge, calling out mournfully, over wide expanses of porcelain, to a sad piece of coin-sized steak here. There are no hungry diners here either.

Since most people were there to drink, the kitchen coped swiftly with our order.

My luscious rump steak was rare and butter-soft. The crispy chips had a soft, fluffy heart that melted in your mouth. This is welcome relief from the hard, waxy punishment doled out unapologetically in Pretoria these days. A huge T-bone steak arrived at our table intact, without the fillet hacked out, as happens so often lately. Someone at our table ordered a salad as a main course. There was enough Greek salad in that bowl to sink the “Oceanos”. (Pardon me, I just remembered, that cruise liner has been sunk already.) The crispy chicken Schnitzels made those who ordered them smile broadly. The waiter brought a free dessert, with “Happy Birthday” written in chocolate, for the guest of honour.

Look, you don’t come here to crook your little finger over refined messes. (Waiter, oh waiter, I wish to report an antliophora diptera in my Vichyssoise.) If that is your style, “La Pentola’s” magical fusion food and “Laughing Chefs” sculpted masterpieces are a quick Rolls Royce ride away. Just remember you will be expected to pay their prices.

Pleasantly Surprised, great food and great service. Well priced as well. Thanks for a great evening. Raymond was a star with excellent service. I would recommend Die Wit Huis to anyone. You have won yourself a new regular here. Best of all, it's just a couple of minutes from where I live.

Possibly loosely referring to the White house in America it was the residence of former President Paul Kruger's wife Gezina. The venue seams like it has a lot of potential especially with the rich heritage but it's somehow not as well emphasized as I would like. The outside area needs a bit of landscaping and with a little bit of design flair one could turn it into an exciting space for after work drinks.

We had a few beers and shared a build your own basket. Now I'm no german but I'm reasonably sure what things were called on the menu and what we received was not the same thing but it was just a few guys so it didn't really matter that much and at least the service was friendly.

I've heard the Sunday buffet is a hit but not being a buffet fan I'd never know.

I'd recommend dropping in for drinks.
Came here for an after work bite and a beer. We made a basket which included questionable haloumi cheese and bokwurst which was most likely a Vienna. At least they can't mess with the beer.
