Review Wok N Roll - Pretoria

Inette van Schalkwyk
Such a great sushi restaurant. I love the sushi buffet. For R235 you can eat as much sushi as you want. There are other menu items also available that form apart of the buffet. This includes dim sum, bao buns, soups and even dessert.

This is officially my number one go to Asian place. The best sushi ever !!! Wow !!! I also ordered their Rise Bowl and it was amazing, if I was kid I would lick my bowl clean. We were served by Llyod, amazing guy. Very friendly and very helpful. The place is super packed yet so quiet 😂 it’s amazing !!! Some would say it’s pricey, but it’s worth every cent.

All you can eat menu for R209!!! This place is amazing! Vibe and service is good, the food is mouth watering as well as fresh BUT remember you pay for what you waste so order in small portions- there is no limit to what you can eat on the menu or how many times you can order. No reservations needed, definitely recommend

We ordered takeaways and wow, the food is delicious! The Korean fried chicken wings and Teriyaki Chicken Ramen are a must. We can't wait to try more of the food.

Wow! What a place.. the atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming. The sushi is amazing and really worth it I went for the sushi buffet and it was so nice I would recommend to anyone to go, as a family or as a couple.

We went on a Sunday and it was nearly packed but the atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly you hardly noticed. We were seated fast and the wait for the food wasn't longer than necessary! As to the food? Scrumptious! Do yourself a loving and order the chicken ramen! One way ticket to heaven? Yes please!

We came for the sushi buffet and we really enjoyed our time here! We didn't really try the signature dishes, but the classics were still really good! The classic selection is a little limited in my opinion, but you can happily get by with the selection. Wok and Roll got quite busy towards the end and there were only three sushi chefs on duty so it took a while for our sushi to arrive. The bill arrived really quickly though! 😂 But all round, we enjoyed it and would come again

Great for eating sushi. Kids took us for Sunday lunch. Had the buffet, eat all you can. Amazing. All plates freshly prepared. Naomi, our waitress was the best. She never faulted on anything on our table of 10. Even arranged for fresh strawberries to be purchased for one of the servings. Ended on 100 plates, excluding dumpling baskets.

I popped in for a quick lunch on my own, after sbopping. Service was really good. Waiter was quick and friendly I had the potstickers and the prawn and pork siu mai, they where amazing! See attached pics of potstickers, the lace was something special! I love woknroll always have a good expierence at the woodlands branch, their sushi is normally just as good! Would recommend a visit if you are in the area!

Always a great experience. The newly introduced Sushi Buffet on Wednesdays is incredible, having options from starters to deserts included in the buffet menu as well as the Sushi makes it a great special. Food can be fetched from the sushi belt or ordered with the waiter. Service is top notch. Definitely a favorite spot for us. Booking is best for days when there are Specials.

Good service- waiters are friendly, great sushi and starters and wide variety! Overall great experience
Wok ‘n Roll has to be one of my absolute favorite restaurants! Every single plate of food I’ve had has been so scrumptious! I recommend the dragon roll sushi, crispy Korean chicken wings, the pot stickers and of course the crispy chicken bao bun 😍. And not to forget the life changing deep fried ice cream - a MUST try! The waiters are also great, very attentive. The food doesn’t take too long to prepare, and if you’ve ordered a couple of items they bring them out as they are ready. Will most definitely be going back multiple times - looking forward to trying their Japanese Katsu curry 🍛. Ambience really nice as well, pretty cool and simple decor 👌🏽

Always enjoy going to Wok & Roll .... when I’m in the mood for sushi, dragon rolls or boa buns. The wine menu is great and always something to satisfy ... so is the food menu and it’s always absolutely tasty. The staff are friendly, very efficient and informed. Another plus is that there will always be a table available for walk-in and one does not have to make a reservation.

Having walked past this restaurant often, we finally decided to give it a try.

The designer sushi is great but a little pricey. Rather go whilst a special is being run (Usually a Monday)

The peking duck is recommended.
Elke Roos
Pretentious and very expensive. Sushi did not taste fresh. Poor service. Most sushi is tempura prawn, not a lot of salmon options.
Lianri Swanepoel Maritz
Impressive styling and atmosphere.
It was very kind of them providing us with a welcome snack.
Had a seat at the sushi bar and enjoyed the sushi very much.
Ordered Teriyaki Duck and waited more than 30 minutes.
Must admit I really did not enjoy the Teriyaki duck at all and would not recommend it.

So we decided to try Wok n Roll and what a wonderful choice. The service was prompt and friendly. The sushi was fresh and tasty. I liked the tempura prawns but they were a bit big for me to finish both. We received one of our plates with a magical theatrical show dry ice on the plate..which made it so fun. The springrolls are amazing, we had the chicken, mayo and mozzeralla and loved every bite as its filled with only the chicken and mozzarella and no veg stuff...love it. We will definitly be back. I would say they are a bit pricey here and there, but you definitely get the quality you pay for. Tha ks for a great evening Wok n Roll.

On recommendation, we decided to visit Wok n Roll for some sushi. When we got there, we requested to sit at the “sushi train” where we can sit and pick. There are different colour coded plates (cheapest to the Pink expensive ones). Please note, sashimi is not included on the train. The taste was ok (the ones that I chose).

3 is a bit harsh.... its pretty good.

Great service with great attitude, our waitress was really good and cool.
Had wings and bao, both great...
Ok I'll up it to 4 stars
The bao was really good. A bao amd a nibble is a meal here.
The wings were crispy and nom but not spicy.
We had ramen, all 3 of them. All were good, not excellent, not top tier, bu better than most in the gauteng.
Reasonable price too
Eh
Worth a shot. They're good I'd go back

Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Addicted to the Asian fries 🤤 which they gladly substituted with chicken for me🙏🏽 Dragon rolls were really yummy, fresh ingredients. The crispy chicken had a lovely spicy, sweet flavor to it. Portions are quite big, prices are a little steep but worth it!👌🏽

Looooove this place!!!! Best sushi ever"""" like the decor and very friendly staff. Monday half price sushi value for money. Dragon roll is the best...

Ever since Wok n Roll opened, I’ve had my eye on them desperately wanting to try it out and finally got the chance tonight!

The décor is incredibly well thought-out, modern yet elegant. I love the subtle use of the ocean as inspiration in the silver fish hanging between the lights.

The food was good. We had the pot stickers as a starter to share and they were flavourful which I enjoyed. We all proceeded to have the Sweet and Sour Pork with egg fried rice. The crispy fried pork and vegetables were a great combination and executed really well but the sweet and sour sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but all in all a good dish, I’d just order the sauce on the side. The fried rice was excellent. Loved every bite and balanced the sweetness a bit.

Will be back for more tastings. Yum!

Definitely the best Asian restaurant in Pretoria. Excellent choice. Dim sum, sushi, tom yum, hot and sour soups, peking duck, curry, you name it. And everything we had was made fresh, no pre-prepared dishes. Also service was good taken that the restaurant was crowded. Portions are relatively small, but it gives you a chance to order and try more dishes. We will ne definitely back to try more 😋

Have amazing time with friends here the food were very delicious have a lot of new special dishes worth to visit. I will come back again....
Lee Grieb
overpriced sushi. Many cheaper sushi restaurants with the same value food. Very good service though , but the place is a bit crowded, tables to close to each other.
Metoastie
Loved the food! I thought the atmosphere was very welcoming and the service good, I believe it could be even better though! Definitely visit wok and roll again

Highly recommended! Although we had to wait for a table, it was most definitely worth it. The food is great, the staff friendly and the vibe is exactly what I wanted it to be.
Richard
Amazing place and well food presented, SA best ramen and sushi, specially recommend Ramen& hong sao pork belly must come try. Definitely come back again, well done Wok n Roll!

Impressive menu and friendly service. Restuarant was busy with inviting ambience, indicating a popular choice.
Food is well presented and some interesting choices available on the menu.
The Salmon Carpaccio is a must try for all those sushi lovers!
Will definitely return for some of those Dim Sum specials.
As for the sushi, the rice needs a little improvement and then will be worthy of a 5 star.
Amazing food in a great setting! Located in a busy spot, but has a warm and friendly atmosphere that is rate in a mall restaurant. Sushi and wok dishes are both amazing!

Wok 'n Roll -A must try!! We had sushi as a starter - that was amazing.(Dragon roll) .
Who would ever think ,adding crispy onions to sushi .

Main course we had Green prawn curry with fried noodles. The first bite is an explotion of flavours in your mouth.

Looking at the menu ,your mouth will water. There is so many things to chose from .Different styles of food and things out of the odenary.
If you want to eat something different and try something new then this is a must.

One let down of this place is the waiters and the service.
We waited about 10 minutes for a menu, and to order drinks .
My coffee I ordered got there cold ,who knows how long it has been standing there.
We asked our waiter 5 times for wet wipes without him bringing it at the end.

There is not enough waiters and because it is a new place it is very busy.
A waiter can not take tables if he can not handle them. The owner and manager should defenitly look into this.

This place has potential and should use it not lose it.
Will defnitely go there again hoping to get better service this time .

Probably the best fusion sushi I've had in Pretoria. 😍 On Mondays they have half price sushi, so sushi loves you know where to go on Mondays. 🍣

My favorites are definitely the pink plates, went for a couple of the other plates but the pink plates were definitely the best.

Being the sushi fanatic that I am, will definitely have to go back and try out some of their speciality sushi. Overall I was very impressed and it has a very modern atmosphere.
Anandi Gouws
Sushi is to die for! The asian fries- best fries I have ever had!! We also had the crispy duck with pancakes- portion was super small for the price we paid:(

We ordered the noodles ( one with prawns and one with beef) with extra Chinese vegetables to go. The atmosphere was vibrant which makes for a nice spot to dine out.

The Chinese vegetables consisted of the most amazingly prepared bok Choy I have ever had and certainly made the meal for me. The noodles had complex flavours and were amazing however my prawns were underdone and my boyfriend had very little meat with his meal. Considering the price paid, although there were a mountain of noodles, from the protein point of view it wasn’t really bang for our buck.

I went to this resturant for my birthday and was not disappointed at the food. However the waiter wasn't very helpful in suggesting what I should try as it was my first time here and the service was abit slow but not bad...

I tried the Natsu platter...it wasn't to my liking as there is alot of seared fish but I'm sure anyone who enjoys seared salmon would enjoy this platter.

I did enjoy the bamboo tempura prawn, crab tempura maki and crabby roll sushi.

I also tried the Asian fries and Korean fried chicken wings which were absolutely delicious!
I had the bao prawn tempura which I really enjoyed too. And I tried warm saki for the first time and it hits quite hard!

The portion sizes are quite big and I was so stuffed I didn't even have a main dish or dessert but will definitely be back to try more of the diverse and interesting menu!

Decided to try this restaurant, because we've heard so much about it. We had sushi, chicken noodles, pot stickers and Thai curry. Enjoyed the noodles and pot stickers, unfortunately the sushi (from the belt) tasted old and the coconut milk overwhelmed the Thai curry.

This place is very popular. Before our movie date we decided to try Wok n Roll. I decided to have the wings and Asian fries which are a huge portion and interesting take on this American classic. The beef, red onion and mayo are a great flavour combination. The sushi is delicious too. We need to go back to try the steam buns.

I was extremely excited for this restaurant to open as there aren’t many dim sum bars out there and let me say you won’t be disappointed. The sushi menu is outstanding, not do they only serve your original options but they have some creative new sushi dishes for one to try and they are absolutely delicious, especially that yum yum sauce. The dim sum is are delicious I’ve tried every one on the menu and each single dim sum is filled with these sparkling flavours. The decor is simplistic and elegant and the atmosphere is great. If you want to catch a meal at this delicious restaurant I recommend booking otherwise you might not get a booking.

Stunning place. Best sushi I have ever tasted and good variety and fresh. The menu caters for a lot of different tastes.
The dishes are presented very nicely and you have a choice of noodles or rice with your main meals. The steamed fluffy bums are amazing.
The Wok duck and Wok Beef is tender and tasty.
Food good but service was horrific. When I approached the manager to tell him the food took 1.5 hours (4 small rolls) to make, his excuse was that "everyone ordered food today"...not sure why ordering food makes service terrible, and indeed a restaurant should be geared to SERVE FOOD when people order food. Isn't that the point of a restaurant?

New place. Service took long. Sushi was good though. A bit pricey. No veg chow faan? Manager doesn't seem very confident in operations of restaurat. Maybe will go back again.

Not great at all! Service very, very slow. The sushi wheel was most of the time empty. Called the manager and he spoke to the chefs. 45 Min later still very little sushi on the wheel. Ordered 2 portions of sushi. This took 30 min. There were perhaps not more than 8 people in the restaurant. As for the taste of the sushi: nothing special.

This is my second time visiting Wok n Roll and both times have been a great experience. We tried the champion platter and the ramen the first time and both were very good. The broth for the ramen is less salty than many restaurants, which is a big plus. The second time I tried the pot stickers and Tom Yum soup. The soup was pretty average, but the pot stickers were super yummy! Love the fillings of shitake mushrooms. What surprised us the most was the mango sago. It was such a refreshing dessert. Will definitely go back!

Wow this place was amazing it had delicious food our mains was just a little cold already and our starters burned our mouths because it was so hot I had chicken curry but it didn't burn at all
Carice De Jager
The menu has a large variety and their sushi is amazing and very tasty. The sushi wheel is packed with variety as well which is rare! I will definitely be back to try some of their day different meals.

Our first time at this new restaurant. Great experience, nice atmosphere and great food!
We enjoyed the Duck red curry and the Wok beef, both really nice and tasty. Only the curry was a bit difficult to eat with a fork. We had to ask for a spoon😉.
We finished with the special with Nutella and strawberry, delicious!
Service was good, not great.

My second time here. Had to come back. Ambience and food are amazing. Will come back again and again. Friendly effectient staff. A must for everyone who enjoys great food
Amazing flavors and quality. We enjoyed our first experience and ordered take aways since then, and enjoyed every meal. Tipical Asian decor, but fresh and new.

I am absolutely in love with this place! The decor is stunning, contemporary and welcoming. The food is seriously to die for. The service is also really good, making this a gem. Pretoria has been in desperate need of a good Asian restaurant and has finally produced one.

I had the most divine chicken katsu curry, with potatoes that melt in your mouth, smothered in a perfectly balanced curry sauce. We also ordered the ramen. It was fantastic, the bone beef broth really packed such a punch and completely elevated a simple dish. We had the char sui baos too- this is a must-order! So sweet and soft and salty and fluffy, it's a complete treat.

I would definitely recommend this stunning place! I'd just suggest sharing a main dish and ordering some dim sum with it, the portion sizes are gargantuan!

Welcome Wok N Roll! Pretoria East is in desperate need of a good Asian Restaurant. The decor is understated, but with a warm ambience.
Unfortunately our initial welcome left a lot to be desired with a host basically telling us to sit and wait at one of the about 10 empty tables instead of reserving a table for literally 30 minutes later...a request they refused to accommodate, obviously after our 30 min wait for the final member of our party there were still about 5 or 6 empty tables, since it was early evening.
Moving on to the food...
We had the Teriyaki Duck (duck over cooked) taste on par. Chicken mayo mozzarella springrolls were well received, the star of the starter round was the Bao!!
Crispy chicken and Prawn tempura Bao absolutely delectable.
Mains: the Ramen noodles was good, but nothing spectacular, a little bland. The Salmon bowl a bit of a let down according to my friend. The Thai red Prawn curry was lovely, could’ve done with a bit more prawns, but beautifully balanced. The chicken Teriyaki was delicious,
We ended the meal by sharing deep fried ice-cream....well done on the ice-cream still intact, but the crust was what seems soggy crushed corn flakes with a shop bought chocolate syrup...

All in all, judged on the food, we’ll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu...Wok N Roll is on the right track, we wish you all of the best with this new venture.

Wok and Roll is a wonderful new restaurant serving outstanding contemporary Asian cuisine. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I had the Pot Stickers and Wonton soup. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! Thank you Wok and Roll! I will definitely be back.

Good ambience and great service. For a new restaurant, servers are well informed. The menu is extensive and the food is excellent. Wide variety of sushi which is excellent and the dim sum is great also. Definitely my favorite Asian restaurant in Pretoria

So happy this place opened! Well priced and super tasty! My new favorite place to eat. Super fresh and yum sushi. They don’t have a liquor license yet. But they have a huge variety of dishes. Love the interior. Will be back soon!
