Review Stephnie's - Pretoria

Nico Vermeulen
Lovely romantic atmosphere. The food was excellent and actually not as expensive as it looks. We enjoyed a 300g steak special that included a glass of wine for just R165. We also shared a starter (Bone marrow with rooster koek(type of bread) for R90).

A wonderful restaurant serving good quality culinary wonders in Lynwood, Pretoria. Had the pleasure of dining there and was very impressed and happy with the food, service and ambiance. The menu has interesting twists on traditional South African dishes, as well as a great mix of international ones. The focus is on plated food with chicken, beef, lamb, pork, seafood and vegetarian/vegan options. So there’s no pizzas etc. Tried the pumpkin fritters for starters, lamb curry, pork belly for mains and crème brûlée’ for dessert. Every dish was tasty, plated well and had generous servings. Service was great and on point. The indoor section is very tastefully designed and played opera/instrumental music to add to the atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

Wonderful atmosphere. The waiter took good care of us. The food was excellent.

What great food and super nice waiter we had. I never order chicken , but this chicken with figs dates and mozzarella was heavenly. I loved the theatrical atmospher...well done Pictures are from the 4 mails we ordered

Quiet an aesthetically-pleasing restaurant. Nice quiet spot to have intimate conversations. Enjoyed the food. I appreciated how they tweaked my starter to make it vegan-friendly. They definitely do make an effort to accommodate vegans and vegetarians although I believe they can add a bit more diversity. Caters for both meat-eaters and plant-based individuals so it’s a great spot to go to accommodate everyone.

What a gem. Prices are affordable for amazing food. The Peri Chicken livers was just perfect. I asked for a bit more spice and that was what they did PERFECTLY. Served in a potjie keep the meal steaming hot. The serving is generous. 10/10 on taste. Beatifull place, most comfortable chair and I LOVE the purple chairs. Waiter was fast, effective. Will be back for sure

All credits to the chef on the 6th August 2023. The food was out of this world. Believe everything on their website. We ate ribs, lamb stew, kingklip fish, medium rare rib eye. Everything was perfect my 11 year old daughter had oreo waffle for dessert she loved it. I had the best diner and best service👌Perfect 💯

Was served by Maureen. Really a great experience. Love the food. Had the Fig and Camenbert starter, and 300g sirloin steak for mains. And it was amazing.!

We came here as a huge family occasion. The food was absolutely excellent. The staff were really friendly, accompanied and quick.

Had a lovely time, food was presented beautifully. The gin with turkish delight was my absolute favorite. The calamari starter was delicious and tender. The garlic and herb mash had a bit too much herbs however, and my husband ordered a pina colada that had no flavour or sweetness to it. Our waiter was polite but we are a little disappointed for not getting a thank you for a rather generous tip. Will definitely recommend this place for great food and a good atmosphere.

Breakfast including coffee for R50. Served very fast. Coffee was good, steak very good quality (for my liking the basting is too sweet). Downside: only scrambled eggs. Overall excellent value for money.
Doris
Always a very nice meal here. The staff are good, the food is always well cooked and tasty, and the drinks are great. Value for money is also excellent.
Danie Van Wyk
Excellent food. Lunch menu items are very affordable.

Great service, awesome food and well-located. We had lunch and dinner here while staying at the City Lodge across the road. Their toasted sandwiches come as a double portion by default which is great value for money and I had the decadent pork belly for dinner and it was sublime.

Visited today and once again, Stephnie's lived up to its reputation. Right from the entrance, the ambiance captures your attention - soothing yet beautifully designed, with the purple chairs and tree branch roof lights adding a distinctive touch. The menu at Stephnie's is commendably diverse, catering to various preferences from vegan and vegetarian dishes to a wide selection of meat options, including the unique offering of ostrich. I opted for the Oxtail & Mushroom, and it was truly a culinary delight. The meat was so tender, it effortlessly slid off the bone, and every bite was infused with an intense, mouth-watering flavor. While the rice was slightly dry for my preference, it was easily redeemed when combined with the luscious oxtail sauce. My partner's Fresh Salmon fillet was just as impressive, beautifully cooked and bursting with flavor. A special shoutout to our waitress, Thuli. Her impeccable timing and keen attention ensured that our dining experience was seamless. She was there whenever we needed, without being intrusive. While the quality of the dishes justified the price, it's the consistency in the excellence of Stephnie's that truly stands out. It's a safe bet for us; when in doubt about where to dine, this place always comes to mind. To all the prospective diners out there, Stephnie's is a must-visit. Make sure to try the oxtail if you're a fan of savory dishes. The Fresh Salmon fillet, Melange of Pineapple and Cashew Nuts, and Tuscany’s Trio Fillet are also highly recommended. Every visit here is a gastronomic journey worth relishing!

Such a lovely spot outside the theatre. The service is good and the food amazing. The alcoholic beverage list is endless. Definitely worth a visit if you live wining and dining.
Oliver Holland-Muter
My first time there, oh man is the food food !! My steak was like butter and the waiter was very on point. The dessert I had (sago orange) was the most delicious 😋

Just had an amazing lunch here. Lamb curry and créme brulee. Extremely tasty and well presented. The espresso came with a small glas of water. It is these little details and a friendly attitude of the staff that makes this a favourite spot. Well done 👍

This is the worst ribs I have eaten in a long time, there was more sinew than bone, The waiter was more interested in serving other tables. The manager was never around. The meal was cold and even colder than the warm beer I received. Won't be going back there soon and will definitely not take a client there.
Napo Ralefeta
We here for our Team Breakfast: The Manager came rudely to our table: and said we making noise: and we sitting outside: it's very sad; even today in a Democratic New South Africa:

Heaven on earth...... waiters are well trained, food is beautifully presented. My absolute favorite place. The desert and wine menu is fantastic. Well done guys!!!

What I loved the most about Stephnie's is the atmosphere, it has a very elegant but relaxed vibe. Had reserved a table for a birthday lunch and the service was amazing. I really enjoyed the food, it looked good and it tasted good. they had quite an extensive list of drinks to pick from which is great.

Great restaurant, had a med-rare fillet with pepper and chilli sauce. Meat was tender and cooked to perfection. Also the service is good and they have a surprisingly good wine menu.
Would recommend that you stay away from the banting menu. Eat real food
Jacques Raj Swart
Had the mushroom and haloumi starter, Moroccon lamb curry and chocolate orange creme brulé. Dishes were presented like art, food was great. Curry waar the right balance between spice taste and burn. Creme brulé best I've had. Service and ambience very good also. Definitely recommend the restaurant over and over again.

Went to Stephnie’s and skipped doing dishes on a sunday! The sunday roast for R99 was even better than expected (not to even mention the dessert menu)!! A must try
Silindile Mncwabe
Sunday lunch at this lovely restaurant was an absolute delight, the food was delicious, the service could have been better. So I was seated in the view of the cakes that they have on display and all through my lunch I'm thinking those cakes look very yummy and I need to get myself a slice and I'm glad I did, sweet lemon meringue was a great choice. Recommending this place

On entrance the waiters approach was polite and helpful. Once seated asked for a cappuccino and a juice. Eventually it arrived and was bitter and burnt. Ordered from menu of which the waitress didn't know anything about the special ...
Waited for ages and seeing the restaurant wasn't even half full shouldn't have been the case.
The food eventually arrived my chips were tough my quiche was cool and the pastry doughy. I didn't even eat one third of my meal. They took it away and then the manger arrived. Asked how I was and how was the meal. I explained to her it Wás terrible and the service was slow and terrible. To which she replied and said all she can say is sorry. There was no compensation. So tiring paying for food that isnt edible. Eating out is a luxury but those cooking should know quality service.

Definitely not a place to visit if your hungry.
Won't ever return or recommend them.

I went here for a late brunch with a few people recently and I was really impressed by the quality of the food. Really generous portions and delicious, fresh ingredients. The coffee was also great. The food was served hot and for R70 for both the meal and coffee was great value for money. The service was friendly.
However we were initially given dirty cutlery, which was promptly changed when we pointed it out. I also found the wait to be really long, I think we waited around 45 for breakfast to be served. I also thought the table setting was extremely busy, when the food arrived the table was very cramped.
Gerhard
My new favourite spot. The location is unique because it has so many restaurants in the area. All top end. Out in the open and although busy you are in a relaxed atmosphere. Fine dining and relaxed and friendly already is a great combination but add a great wine list and you are set. We chose a great wine and picked a beetroot linguini and a Karoo lamb lasagne. Quick service and the best part of the meal was still to come. Infused flavours certainly leave hints of a master flavour combination artist at work. Really a great meal and a nice experience.

We had lunch at Stephnie's for the first time today. The food (Chicken Surprise and Oxtails) was really delicious, the oxtail was super tender. Our waitress was very polite and friendly.
Jana Venter
The chicken pineapple burger thingy I had was out of this world. the service was great. the atmosphere was a little bit stiff. I'm from the farm and felt guilty for every movement.
Mpho Makwana
Fish & Chips was nice just disappointed that when I asked for Tomatoe Sauce I was told it's finished - managers are busy downstairs in a meeting🙈🙊

We were staying nearby and decided to check out the restaurants around the Atterbury Theater. Stephnie's was packed and we were lucky to get a table on a busy Friday night.

The vibe is buzzy, upmarket and cosy, with lots of theatre goers having a meal before the show.

The menu is vast, with an interesting Banting section for those so inclined.

We had the haloumi and the pampoen koekies as starters. The haloumi was battered and deep fried, but not quite gooey enough inside for my liking. The pampoen was delish.

I chose the squid in pasta with chorizo and calamari and my partner the pork belly. He definitely chose the winner. The pork and cracking were perfect! My dish was a little disappointing. The pasta was not yet al dente and the sauce needed a bit of zing.

For desert, we both chose the creme brûlée, served with biscotti. It could have done with a touch more vanilla but was good, and the sugar crust was excellent.

A pretty extensive wine and bubbly list with a good selection for wine by the glass too.

Great service and a good evening out all in all.
Sean Steenkamp
The décor of the restaurant created an enjoyable atmosphere. However, the pricing of the food is too high for the quality that I received and therefore I am reluctant to recommend the restaurant. The steak was over cooked and the pasta was underdone.
We had a family dinner here one Friday night, much to our satisfaction. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful - he even held an umbrella open for us as we walked through the rain to shelter after our meal. The food arrived sooner than I expected. I was very happy with my choice of the Crispy Pork Belly - the crisp was perfect and the combination of sweet potatoes, caramel cashews and red cabbage was great!

Had never been to Lynwood Bridge before but my friends took me to Stephnie's for my belated birthday dinner. Nice ambiance, food was good but I found the wine list quite limited especially as far as bubbly was concerned. I loved the fact that they accommodated the "Banting " community on their menu.

Had very good suppers at Stephnie's at previous times. Our breakfast experience was not so good. The service was poor. The drink orders were mixed up. They did not bring the free cuppachinos which were supposed to come with the breakfast. We had to ask for it. There was not a placemat and utensils for one guest when the food arrived and they did not notice it. Had to ask for it. There are much tastier and better quality boerewors in Pretoria as that which was served. The sweet potato rosti was tastless and lacked salt and spices. We will not have breakfast there again.
Christine Gradwell
Wonderful brekkie, hot coffee, friendly service. Lacking a bit of a special personal touch in their service. Good experience al in all. Will be back to try the lunches.
Mmasenwe Takalo
Had dinner with my partner. The service was slow but the food was great. Both the lamb shank and oxtail fell off the bone and was well seasoned, just as my partner likes it. The waitress recommended a great choice of wine which complimented the food. Will surely come back.
Sharon Gilbert-Rivett
An exceptionally disappointing experience dining at Stephnie's yesterday lunchtime. I took my assistant there for her farewell lunch with the rest of my department. The service was appalling and my Moroccan Lamb curry uninspiring (especially as I had to wait almost 10 minutes for rice, which was forgotten). My assistant's lamb lasagne seemed OK and my deputy's Karoo lamb chops seemed fine. I tried them too. But this morning my deputy is ill with vomitting and an upset tummy, and so am I. My assistant who had the lamb lasagne also has an upset stomach. My Malva pudding's creme Anglaise was curdled and I finally complained after two hours about the slow service. I won't be returning to Stephnies which I found overpriced and with too much focus put on fancy fare and not enough on quality and service.
Arno Boshoff
An obvious choice when you are going to the theater. Very good wine menu, however more than 100% margin on wine is a bit unfair. Well known for a good fillet steak but the thinly cut Rib-eye will not be an option next time. Yes....We wil go back for a next time but be very sure that any dish with rice will not be ordered. The heated-up frozen rice does not fit the expected.
Chris
Nice place to eat before a show, good wine menu! Food is good, the staff are really friendly ran out of the duck confit. Loved the atmosphere and live music!
Raoul
Took quite a few clients here to breakfast. We were a big table 30+ and I warned them way in advance. The breakfast was great and the service not too bad on the day. It is a little more upmarket compared to your average breakfast and in my opinion worth a try. Was here on another occasion with the family (Mother's Day) and I guess because the occasion was so big the service was lacking otherwise my rating would have been 4.
Frans Pretorius
A great place for people watching. Sit in the outside area with a glass of wine watching the world go by. Good food and friendly service. The carpacio starter was frozen otherwise a good dining experience. Jaco

Had a meeting here this morning. Lovely place, great service and the my breakfast was quite a treat. I had the hazelnut latte which was not too sweet and hard a beauty undertone of nuttiness which was lovely, I ordered the scotch egg which was cooked medium,I was happy with that as it is to my liking, what sets their egg apart is to the sausage component they add bacon, the coating was also very lovely crips and did not sog too much what with being in a bowl full of hollandaise, the hollandaise was too generous but I was quite with the flavors. Really good breakfast

This place is perfect for date night. Top quality service with the friendliest staff. The food was delicious and I couldn't have expected more. You definitely get what you pay for and is 100% worth it.

Beautiful decor and seating is very comfortable. Waiters seem quite well trained. Some foods quite reseaonbly priced. I had the T-Bone,the flavour was great with the peppery sauce. The Gf had the Lamb lasange which was to dry for my taste but perfect for hers. Creme Brulée dessert was also quite good. Overall quite worth a visit.

Breakfast at Stephanies. Service is very poor and the food does not live up to expectations. Only two people out of our table of six enjoyed their meal. My food arrived cold, the kaiings were bland and the sausage was undercooked.
Maverick Jae
A group of friends and I stopped by for dessert and coffee...leaving underwhelmed and disappointed.

The word of the day is "basics". Stephanie's seemed to get the most basic of things wrong. My espresso was borderline cold, and my friends teapot was filled with what appeared to be an entire lemon to the extent that it was undrinkable. The desserts didn't go down well either, the carrot cake was more icing than cake and the Malva pudding was incredibly dense.

The ambiance also left much to be desired with the demographic 95% white and over 60...not the greatest place to for the young and trendy on interracial dates.

Thus, after not even being able to get a hot cup of coffee, and feeling rather uncomfortable, to be subjected to consistently slow service was the cherry on top of this supposed fine dining experience.
Brian Michael Weaver
Really great atmosphere and decore. The food was tasty and the wine list great. Perfect place for a special evening. The service was really great and I'll certainly be returning
Annerike Koster
Enjoyed Stephnie's extremely. The place is not to crowded with a classy vibe. Wide variety of wines and food. The services was top noch. I had the Karoo Lamb Lasange that was rich with flavour and ended the night with a good cup of coffee.
Jaco
Lunch at Stephanie's
Had the Lamb lasagna...so good.My companion had the Spinach and feta quiche... mayby too spinachy, but still very tasty. The balance maybe was not quite to our taste, but the texture was really good. We allways had the Jakkalsvlei Sauvignon Blank here, so the fact that they do not stock it any more, is a shame. Still... nice restaurant, good ambiance and good service.
Emily Wilson
Very overpriced for very average and forgettable food. Service wasn't great. We were seated outside where the cushions of the chair were wet as well as the table cloth. Don't think we will be back

One thing I can never understand is how restaurants justify exorbitant prices for food and drinks without matching costs with good portion sizes and quality. Today I had lunch at Stephnie's. For my beverage, I bought Scheppes dry lemon at R25/330mL. For my main course, I received 7 pieces of ravioli for R80: seven ravioli. "S-E-V-E-N," for R80. That equates to ~R11 per piece of pasta. To make matters worse, I had to eat this with a spoon, as the pasta sauce was very runny in consistency. I finished my meal within 10 minutes and I was still hungry. My business colleagues likewise made fun of the portion of food they had received, which could have been mistaken for starters. This meal was utterly disappointing relative to what I was expecting (i.e. based on the price I had to pay and the description in the menu). Under the guise of fine dining, Stephnie's is the type of restaurant which prides itself on image at the expense of quality and reasonable portion sizes. There are many fine-dining restaurants justified to charge a bit extra for cuisine while providing smaller portion sizes based on the high quality of ingredients and preparation, but Stephnie's is certainly not one of them.

What an amazing breakfast we had! We had pap and kaiings, croissant and poached eggs with salmon. We had a feast the food was tasteful and prepared with taste. The staff was friendly and always near when you needed something. Would recommended it it for anyone that is looking for a great and breakfast

End of the month weekend. Phoned ahead to book a table. Very impressed with the service for the booking. Table to the back of the restaurant. Only real problem was it was too close to the "fantastic" desert table. Rump Steal with a black pepper sauce was cooked perfectly and well accompanied by the seasonal vegetables and potatoes. The Sole Thermidor was cooked exceptionally and really tasty, unfortunately had a load of bones but that's not the restaurants fault? Lemon meringue and chocolate coffee cake to close out the meal were both of very high quality. All in all very positive experience and definitely worth a visit. Was full by the time we left, so worth booking in advance.

This place is okay. Nothing to write home about. Banting omelette a good selling point, but then tastes like a normal one. Very overpriced. Coffee good. Waiters friendly. Big score for being open at 7am. No complimentary wifi.
Mariska Meyer
The breakfasts are great you can have a traditional eggs Benedict or something different that is better than the description. The coffee is fabulous. You get your cuppacino served at the right drinking temperature. The black coffee doesn't become bitter closer to the bottom of the cup.
For dinner one can choose from a fantastic menu including things like anchovy butter that I never thought I would try and surprisingly liked it.
I highly recommend Stephanie's.
Shae Leigh
Lovely! A wonderful selection of wines to pair with decadent food. The service is sometimes a bit lacking but the bustling night life makes up for it.
Charl Swanepoel
Utterly pathetic! R160 for a done cooked fillet which i asked to be medium. Old fries and veg.

The waiters was pathetic unable to answer any questions. Will never eat here again.
The Pretoria Explorer
Lovely atmosphere and most certainly enjoyed the service. What was exceptional was the butternut, sundried tomato and feta ravioli 👌 most definitely will be returning back for more. Oh and the range of cakes is just wow. Beautiful place to go for high tea.

Stephnie's is a unique blend of chic and South African tradition. The atmosphere is draped with stylish features like winter-tree wooden chandeliers, deep purples, and velvet black materials, yet somehow, walking in with comfortable day clothes and no high heals doesn't feel like a crime. The food itself is practically perfect. A once again unique combination that includes bold flavours, spectacular plating and very meticulous dressing.
All in all, one fantastic experience in comfortable shoes!
Tshireletso Dipholo
Being spoiled for choice at the bridge we ended up choosing Stephanie's because of the setting, décor and so forth. It really seemed like a cosy spot, the service was great but the food was a big disappointment, I chose the "Duck Confit" which was bland, lacked seasoning.Needless to say that I will never go there again, the food is fairly average for such a pricey menu.
Jonathan Keytel
With so many restaurants at The Bridge to choose from, Zomato came in handy. The decor is great and they have a variety of seating options. Service was friendly although the kitchen service was very slow - our breakfast took close to 30 minutes. The food itself looked quite grand but didn't deliver consistently on the flavour. Also the portions did not justify the prices. I had the salmon and halloumi which was tasteless, my wife's rump breakfast also had not been seasoned. Overall very average.
SJ Wiggett
Stephnie's is the perfect "dinner and a show" venue as it is situated right next to the Atterbury Theater. Elegant decor with dimmed lighting at night with top quality South African dishes it's a great night out. Would highly recommend the Stephnie's fillet
JoMo
Arrived for a corporate dinner, perhaps not the best venue for such an occasion. I ordered the pink salt and parmesan squid which was served in a napolitana sauce as starter and for my maincourse I ate the rib eye with anchovy butter. The entire meal didn't make sense from the starter which was severed in a tasteless napolitana sauce to the steak which was basted in a barbecue sauce and then a dollop of anchovy butter placed on top which was rock solid as the steak was cold. On a lighter note the interior and finishings were modern.
Martie Vosloo
If you want a bit of fine dining, but not the "uncomfortable" type, then Stephanie' s is great. Their T-Bone special on Wednesdays are a must try, with the perfect atmosphere set out in Lynnwood bridge centre.
Themba Chavalala
Perfect place for a good sunday lunch. Really like te service and the presentation. Definitely would come back here. Karoo lamb chops mmmmmmmmmmh
Wilna Bester
We spent an enjoyable Sunday morning having breakfast at Stephnie's - sitting outside (like two akkedissies) in the winter sun. When we were warmed up an umbrella provided the neccesary shade.
They have coffee & rusks with condensed milk. It gave me great pleasure to enjoy such a traditional homely treat in a restaurant.
Hubby had the Boere breakfast with maize meal (pap) and I ordered Melkkos - a milk based porridge/pudging served with cinnamon.
It was good but not the best that I have had.
The homemade Chamomile tea was strong and sweet. I would dilute it somewhat.
Service was friendly and fast enough.
Nikos Koutelidakis
We were in a rush for a show and we were helped right away. Really good service and great food. Well done !!! Will definitely be back !!!! .

A warm environment coupled with a great menu. The staff is very friendly and the ambience is great. I enjoyed breakfast with friends after a morning run.
Rosa Serrao Frederico
Exceptional service. Our waiter Richard was brilliant. We all tried different meals. The T.bone and duck were my favourites. Definitely go again. We dined before going to a show at Atterbury theatre.AmaZing night out.
Louwrens Bakker
After not knowing where to go for dinner, we tried Stephnie's, and what a delightful surprise!
Our waiter, Raymond, was an excellent host and served us with a delightful and friendly smile.
Great atmosphere for a great evening meal!
We had the Chateubriand, with the Neethlingshof Owl Post wine. Flambéed right at our table, served with a generous portion of homestyle veggies. Great for two people sharing.
After dinner we had a look at the dessert menu, but sadly, there was no Sorbet. Raymond, with his ever-present smile, told us that he could arrange some, and within two ticks we had two bowls of the best lemon and naartjie Sorbet in front of us.
Stephnie's will definitely see us again!
Germa Beukes
Great for breakfast. Lunch was a little disappointing though. Pasta was bland but salad was great. Service was good and overall not bad. Slightly overpriced though.
Mixy Janse Van Rensburg
A pleasant dining experience but would nor go back. The waiter was friendly and competent. Sadly though the food was just average, not amazing and definitely over priced for the quality and taste. Ordered some cheesecake for dessert and felt the portion was rather stingy (for the price). Ordered the ostrich curry and it was just same plain old yellow rice served along with it.
Michael Derek Clifford
Great breakfast, some lovely fresh ideas and well priced. When last did you see scotch eggs on a breakfast menu? Service was prompt and efficient. We will be back.
Ainsley
First - the menu on this site is not current , I went last night and they no longer have any shellfish available
The problem I had was not the food - it was good not great but good quality and served with a smile , the white linen table cloth was very dirty and nobody seemed to address it - even placing my steak knife on the tomato stain ! I do expect a little more attention to detail from the calibre of restaurant
Monique Van Tonder
Judging from the other reviews it seems Stephnie's is a bit of a hit or miss place.. We had a great experience although we went thinking that the specials advertised on their website would be available. They weren't, we ended up taking a starter and 2 curries for a main.

Pampoenkoekies starter was very good, about as best as you can imagine it to get. I had the ostrich coconut curry, boyfriend had the Moroccan lamb curry. Both very tasty, the lamb was quite a bit spicier but very well made. I was so excited to start eating I forgot to take photos of the mains!

The coffee was a good finish to a very tasty meal. Portions are big enough but overall the menu was a bit pricey. The winelist is quite limited but there are several reasonably priced wine per glass options. Give it a try and make sure to check out the strangely decorated floor!
Melissa Cook
Great food but the service ......... Not so great. But I would say the food almost made up for it
Claire
Been here twice for coffee only as the food was too pricey. I love the purple decor and the restaurant is near the water feature where the children play which is handy if you have kids. Overall - an average experience.
Rupert Vermaas
Stephnie's is lacking a central vision, and charges hefty prices for sub-par dishes.

The atmosphere was also very average, as all the other restaurants at Lynnwood Bridge seem to be buzzing, compared to a relatively quiet Stephnie's.

The service was good and the waiters were friendly. The food that we received was, however, not as good. You would expect excellent dishes for such high prices, but the food is unfortunately lacking. There's nothing wrong with the food, it's just quite, well... boring.

Overall we expected a lot more for the price that we paid. I would recommend that you rather choose another restaurant if you are in the mood for fine dining.
Du Toit Scheepers
For mains we ordered chicken and oxtail. Chicken was overcooked and dry. Rice served with chicken was probably a few days old (lots of hard dried out pieces) Oxtail was tough and incredible salty. Both mains were served too cold Waiter forgot drinks order twice For dessert asked for a recommendation from waiter. He suggested peppermint crisp tart and malva pudding. Tart was a few days old (rock hard pieces of ancient cream on top) and the Malva pudding was served raw. Vanilla pod ice cream was completely missing (melted) into the tasteless custard surrounding the raw pudding. Overall impression, way overpriced, poor service and substandard food. Avoid at all cost.

Very cool restaurant with a comprehensive menu. Expect to see a few twists of some traditional RSA meals and really good coffee!

I wrote my previous review ages ago when stephnie's was still "new". I've left the review at the bottom, mostly for management to analyse how their service has changed.

I've downgraded my rating from 3.5 to 1.
I was so disappointed at the service some friends and I experienced the other night. We arrived to a full-ish restaurant, we were led through the restaurant's "service" walkway to a table right at the back, where they had seated a black couple. Being a mixed table, of mostly people of colour, i couldn't help but wonder if they placed both the other table and us right at the back…for a reason…
The back was empty, with only out two tables there. But, considering that the front of the restaurant had some open tables still. I feel like being seated right at the back, and being forgotten, as I also noted the other couple with us were equally as ignored.

Our service was slow, noting how an older white couple seated after us had already been served their food and we were still waiting for drinks. We only ordered dessert as we had eaten prior and wanted to end our evening on a sweet note...noting how the desserts are made way before hand...makes me wonder why we had to wait so long. My friends ordered a rooibos which was so overpowered with lemon it was basically a medlemon and the other had an espresso which was very Luke warm tending on room temperature. I was smart and just went for a free tap water.

I won't be going back, segregation is not my thing.

Previous review: many moons back
Comfort food at it's best with a gourmet twist to it. I'm not sure if they still have it on their menu, but just to highlight how absolutely scrumptious their food is, their once upon a time duck ravioli was excellent. Little pasta pillows stuffed with mouth watering duck, laying in a delicious white and slightly citrus sauce. Though I haven't managed to find that on their menu lately. Their home made chicken pie is also very tasty, chicken cooked how it should be and everything put together very well. Any dessert including amaretto is also divine, even if it is just ice cream. Their malva pudding servings are massive and swimming in custard. Very good. One of the best restaurant malva's I have ever had, of course nothing quite beats home baking tho. Their steaks are also quite tasty. All in all, great setting, great atmosphere, slightly pricey but well worth it!

I'm disappointed.

I've enjoyed Stephnie's food on many occasions without any incident...

HOWEVER...

Last night was a complete disaster. Both my boyfriend and myself had to deal with mild cases of food poisoning (last night and the whole of today) after chowing down on their Moroccan Lamb Curry.

It's such a shame. I guess we'll steer clear of this restaurant for quite a while, or at least until we forget about this awkward and highly unpleasant situation.

I am crazy about Stephnie's decor!!!! Absolutely love all the quirky touches - the floor is just amazing! Although service is sometimes not that good, especially when they're hectic, the food is good.

We had pumpkin cakes, sprinkled with cinnamon and drizzled with syrup, topped with Brie cheese.

Hein had the Chorizo and Calamari Starter - it was presented on a lovely rich tomato gravy and was yummy.

My main was a Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad - lovely and Hein had the Mature Rump with tempura prawns. A pleasure.

My dessert was 3 scoops of Vanilla Pod ice cream, served with espresso and Amaretto liqueur. Sweet end to dinner - although their dessert table always begs me to order something more! Next time.

Well, pretty disappointed with Stephnies. Very limited wine list an pretty pricey as well. Wife's steak was overdone and I ordered springbok fillet medium rare. It was over well done and dry. And when I mean dry I mean Sahara desert dry, it was awful. Mash was lumpy as well and roast veggies nothing special. Starters were pretty decent though.

Cake and Coffee Review: I loved the decor of this venue, having a nice mix between modern and vintage with its own touch of uniqueness. I had a slice of of Red Velvet Cake, which was brilliant from the start, great texture and did not have an overpowering icing which really made it a "not-so-heavy" slice. I chose a Hazel Nut Latte, and was impressed with the taste, also not overpowering with the nut flavour. It is a great venue to chill with with friends, or even better for a data-night ;), with no loud or obstructive background music.

Waiting to go back to try the meals - the menu looked welcoming and diverse, even for a veggie like me :)

I've been to Stephnie's twice with my book club. The venue has a great ambience, with quirky bits of vintage décor, a strong theatre influence (it’s located directly next to the Atterbury Theatre), an extensive wine list, and mouth-watering menu.

The first time we were there we had delicious pumpkin fritters and a soul-warming soup. It was raining the second time we met here, but because they had not introduced their winter menu yet, there was no soup.

While we scrutinised the menu for something else that would warm us up, the manager, Armand, came over for a chat. He offered to ask the kitchen to whip us up some potato and leek soup, but the craving around the table was for the delicious tomato and basil soup we enjoyed the last time. We didn’t want to push our luck, but after a bit of pouting Armand returned to the kitchen to chat with Chef Daisy. A few minutes later he returned with the good news that the chef agreed to prepare some of her amazing tomato soup for us.

Outstanding service like this is a rare occurrence, and the soup did not disappoint. We asked to meet Chef Daisy and to thank her for the trouble she went through. She modestly explain that it was all made from fresh ingredients but that she won’t divulge her recipe (that’s fine; all the more reason to return for our tomato soup fix!).

Make sure you also check out the cake display for a decadent sugar fix!
