Always good to see a busy restaurant, but not too busy to get a table. Very friendly and prompt service. Contemporary and chic decor on the inside and energetic street side vibe. Breakfast burger was the bomb! Good option for a SA #HeritageDay.
I really enjoy the breakfast !! One of my new favorite spots !
One of the best restaurants in Pretoria! Great service, fresh & well-prepared food, great vibe and good value for money. Would definitely recommend going there.
I’ve been here multiple times and every time we have good service and delicious food ! The quiz nights are particularly great fun and always a big laugh but also a lovely little breakfast spot!
The food platters are definitely worth trying- great way to try a few options.
Beautifully decorated restaurant. Loved the atmosphere, however I wished to sit outside and it was already full...so I would maybe reserve a table if you plan on getting an outside seat.
I tried the haloumi & avo sandwich and was not disappointed at all! It was delicious and so satisfying - the portion size was huge. However I made a suggestion to the waiter that the haloumi be cut a bit thinner as there were quite thick pieces and it became overwhelming.
I ordered a side of sweet potato fries and normal fries with the sandwich...both were delicious.
To drink - I tried the kiwi cucumber and mint ice tea as well as the lemongrass ginger and coconut ice tea - both were quite refreshing and something new on the palette. My favorite was the kiwi cucumber and mint!
For dessert I ordered the berry pistachio cheese cake - I have tasted many cheese cakes as I am a huge fan and this cheese cake was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. It was fresh, light and airy.
To take home I tried the almond tart and again it was fresh and one of the best I’ve had.
The waiter was helpful and friendly and the service was fast. Definitely would recommend this place and will be back soon.
Decided to try something else morning. The destination for Sunday brunch was 23 on Hazelwood. When we got there, we were told to wait at the bar since we didn’t make a booking (Please book in advance!). The wait was not that long and we were shown to our table. Our waiter was friendly and brought our coffees. Coffee was good and strong! For eats, we opted for eggs benedict and blackstone eggs (eggs on bacon and rosti) & a portion of chips (was yum). My meal was done to perfection. This place can become a regular hangout!
Lovely breakfast spot. Friendly service, great coffee, fresh ingredients, and a beautiful setting. The accommodated us even though it was a busy Sunday (fathers day). Try their homemade juices- super refreshing.
We had a really enjoyable experience at 23 On Hazelwood. A little gem of a place. We had breakfast which was lovely. The Delux Breakfast burger and the cleopatra was divine. The only down side is that the bread of the burger was dense and there is limited parking.
Had a brunch here with a friend. Had a great experience there. Waiter was friendly and cool yet professional. He made sure he popped in every now and then to make sure we didn’t need anything else. Time it took from order to plate was great, same for the drinks, which is hard to come by. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. I would not change a thing, everything came in and met my expectations!
Other than that, the atmosphere and vibe in the restaurant was great! Both young, old and families were seated.
23 on Hazelwood is a very cute and casual breakfast spot and they are one of the best breakfast spots in Pretoria with quality cappuccinos. They have a few manners that differentiate them from other spots such as the fact that they are not expensive, stunningly located and that they produced a very fine bakery. Their special and delicious banting brownies is not just healthy but also tasty. Regardless; if the coffee is a win the rest will also be blissful.
- The reason I don't give them more than a 4 rating is because the quality of the food is not consistent. I visit 23 on Hazelwood often and unfortunately I can see they tend to compromise on quality if there is too many visitors.
Pesto pasta was the best! Sitting outside in a gentle breeze with both Beagles at our feet, completely content. We' ll be coming here often in the future.
They have a great Menue. Awesome breakfast choices. King Shaka and Eggs Benedict is to die for. Cappucino always consistant. Great service.😬
Had dinner at 23 tonight, three of us, and all three very satisfied (ribeye, lambshank and lamb curry). Excellent service, wholesome portions, very tasty!
What a gorgeous restaurant! The array of fresh goods that are baked daily on the premises look sensationally indulgent and are such a treat to take home. The aroma is inviting and adds to the beaming atmosphere. It is definitely a favourite breaki/ lunch spot of mine and being a sidewalk cafe, it has a European holiday feel. The food is scrumptious however the service has been slow but only on a few occasions.
Love this place! Perfect for grabbing a quick bite with friends. Food is fresh and tasty and the staff is always friendly.
What I love is the fact that the waiters know the menu and they are able to make recommendations if you feel indecisive.
Flap Jacks is number 1!!! Fresh and so tasteful. Plus their prices are very reasonable.
Wonderful service and welcomed the Guide Dog puppy, Xindi, with huge smiles. Socialisation is a very important part of their development and training to become fully-fledged guide dogs or service dogs. Thank you to all the staff, it was a great experience!
I absolutely love this place. It has a great ambience and very high quality products, especially the baked goods. The breakfasts blow my mind and I can't stop recommending them to everyone I see.
We love coming here for breakfast. They have great coffee, tasty food, which is great value for money, the service is quick and the staff are very friendly and efficient.
Went here for the first time as we wanted to try something new for my dads birthday. The experience was quite nice as the restaurant had ample seating and the music was nice. I didn't catch our waiters name bit he was very friendly and attentive. The food though was very average although the chips were great! The baked goods were fantastic though.
Upon arrival we were greeted with friendly smiles and felt instantly welcome. Our waiter Terrance was the best, an amazing, efficient, friendly and funny guy, he was really good. So, 23 on Hazelwood is a intimate street cafe/bakery/restaurant an absolutely delightful place.
* Ambiance... cozy and comforting and so homely. Love the bakery side which sells delectable cakes bread, bread rolls, quiches and bakes.
* Food... we started of with cappuccinos which were really good. Then ordered the King Shaka, Eggs Benedict plus oatmeal flapjacks. Everything was cooked to perfect and so delicious! Definitely recommend 23. Overall a happy and pleasant experience.
Perfect lunch spot to kick of the weekend.
Choice of seating...inside / outside or next to the fun bar area - the Crafty Fox.
We opted for salads, chicken and Asian beef, both tasty and beautifully presented.
Good and friendly service.
We'll have to go back to try out some of the baked goods from the Deli area and to convince the owner to sell me the pretty yellow cabinet ;)
I've been here twice, and had two drastically different experiences.
The first time was when they had just opened and to be honest I was pretty disappointed with my meal and didn't find it to be anything special. I didn't plan on going back.
However, recently I was craving a good, homely pie and 23 on hazelwood was the closest place I knew of that made pies. I had a chicken and mushroom pie and it was delicious. I'd recommend the pies (and brownies, I took one home to enjoy later) to anyone. Our waiter was also incredibly friendly and efficient. Very relaxing lunch.
Looking for an upbeat and beautiful breakfast joint with exceptional prices, 23 on Hazelwood is the place to go.
Looking from the street side you see this beautiful cafe with tables outside and leading inside to their beautiful restaurant. The atmosphere is upbeat and the staff nothing but friendly and happy to greet you.
I started off with their delicious milkshakes which are nothing but creamy and sweet heaven. They arrived in cute mason jar cups, topped with toppings of the flavour of the milkshake you had ordered. Definitely Instagram worthy.
I have tried numerous dishes for breakfast which none have been a disappointment. The poached eggs with hollandaise sauce were scrumptious and even if you are looking for a healthier option they have Banting bread which is available and it's one of the few Banting breads which I have found edible and very tasting.
Another famous health bake good of theirs, is their Banting brownie which is nothing but the decadence of chocolate but guilt free.
Stopped to have a light lunch date with hubby. The quaint front appearance of the restaurant caught my eye when passing by. Hubby ordered fried chicken strips and chips. I had the pie and salad. Food arrived well presented, but the dishes lacked flavour. Chicken strips were bland. Although the pie beat the strips hands down, it had a very fresh tomato taste and needed some spices.
Friendly staff, good food, affordable and warm atmosphere = Happy customer!
I like the variety of dishes, they really do cater for everyone.
Seating will suit anyone's requirements(which is a big deal to me), either outside on the 'stoepie' for some fresh air, or inside between the smell of freshly baked bread, pies, quiches and other sweet treats.
They present the food well and the freshness stood out.
I'll definitely go back.
Lovely place to have a drink and something to eat.
We enjoyed a lovely bottle of white wine and a toasted low gi sandwich with some bacon bits, cheese and a spicy mustard sauce.
I've been here 3 times in the last 3 months, and every time I go, it just keeps getting better! The restaurant has a trendy, urban vibe, perfect for young people who don't necessarily want to go clubbing on a friday night, but instead prefer some good drinks, amazing food & a "lekker" vibe....
A lovely place to grab a coffee, or in my case, more specifically a dark chocolate mocha. I've been meaning to go 23 on Hazelwood for a while now and decided to steal the very next opportunity I could get. The service is super welcoming, with a little bakery at the entrance for further indulgence, along with a deliciously attractive menu and stunning decor, this restaurant put me instantly in a good mood. Although I only had the dark chocolate mocha (amazing by the way, definitely something I would recommend to dark chocolate lovers as it was delicious!) but looking at the food menu I will most definitely be back to not only have my dark chocolate mocha but an accompanying meal as well!

Been looking forward to my 1st visit here. I had the steak @23 (rump) that was the toughest steak I have ever had. Presentation ect was perfect. The pork belly was the star of our meal- highly recommended! The best i've tasted in Pretoria. The service from "forgive" was good. Coffees was great and desert even better. I think they should refocus there menu - to many options all over the place. The lamb curry was ok, but presentation sub standard.
Hope they read this and refocus - have a lunch/dinner menu.
Comfortable full on a Sunday, this place is definitely a little gem ☺️🌸 my 4-member family and I really enjoyed our Sunday lunch break here! The hake was super light but a massive portion (️YAY for leftovers😍), my dad's pasta looked smash-your-face-in yum, and my mom and sister ordered a succulent chicken salad! We all treated ourselves to a takeaway dessert from their super cute bakery! Cannot wait to taste my Banting brownie😍😁
My only criticism would be the lack of stock (the waiter explained to us that certain items we wanted to order were unavailable as it was a Sunday and they had run out.)
But otherwise, go visit humans, this place is dope 💪🌸
First time coming to this place and all I can say is WoW! :) 5/5 because from start to finish I can not fault them on anything. The place was buzzing which means they're definitely doing something right! And judging from majority of their reviews I'm not alone on this. For breakfast, I had the eggs benedict and my husband had the monte cristo flatbread. What a treat! My eggs were perfectly poached and so tasty. Our waiter was on the ball and super friendly. My cappuccino was perfect. They use TriBeCa coffee which, in my opinion, is the best coffee the country LOL! My husband tried their Turkish Delight milkshake and oh my soul it was absolutely divine...Without a doubt we will definitely be back. I think we'll try dinner next time as I saw a great variety of dishes to choose from.
Amazing food at very decent prices. Small restaurant with good service, great music and a lovely atmosphere. I would really recommend the Chicky Chicken burgers.
We ate here after running the local weekend race. Good spot, good choice! Our waiter was super great. It was busy so there were no tables outside. Inside, it gets a bit warm so they should look at some fans of sort! I ate the chicken livers and scrambled eggs. Not bad. It comes with a tomato chutney on the side, but it is not enough to really "wet" the livers. Prices are pretty affordable too!
What a wonderful time! Such a lovely place to come and eat, and I must say that the food was superb. Our waiter, Terrence, was incredibly friendly and entertaining. Will definitely return for another meal! Between the pasta, lamb curry and salad, among other meals had, there was not a single complaint. Really top-notch!
Shared a generous bowl of pasta with a friend. I don't love that they don't have a selection of pastas someone can pick from but oh well penne will do. Our waiter wasn't super attentive so we had to always flag the other waiter down but the food was good and the vibes really chilled. The pasta with pesto, chicken strips and roasted pepperdews was perfection and their selection of teas is great.
This little cafe style restaurant was delightful. The waiter was polite and gave us enough time to choose what we wanted to order. He was attentive and polite. Not many options for a vegeterian but they were kind enough to leave out the chicken in their creamy pesto. Food was yum and filling. and they have a little deli bakery section on the one end of the shop, serving fresh breads and baked treats. Reasonably priced and a great place to meet up with friends.
What a absolute treat. Exceeded every expectation I had about this place.
Everything just went well. Service was a delight. Coffee was amazing.
The food was delicious. My sister had the eggs benedict. Was by far the best I've tasted. I had a creamed spinach omelet that was also absolutely perfect. Breakfast is the best part of my day. But breakfast at 23 on Hazelwood is special and I will probably be back very soon

After having such an amazing experience last week we had to go back for round 2.
Saturday morning we went to 23, we ordered the curry and I initially ordered the burger sliders but the waiter had our order wrong, I felt to bad to send it back because I know he then has to pay for it. Didn't want a big burger but that was fine. Enjoyed it.
We also ordered 4 corn dog meals for takeaway and our family enjoyed it just as much as we did/do.
Oh boy! I just love this place. Based on the brim of Brooklyn & Waterkloof this is the ideal spot as it is easily accessible. All their breads and confectionery are freshly baked and makes this not only a comfort-food spot, but also one that is very popular to just have coffee & something for the sweet tooth. They are open early and serve delectable breakfasts. Their ambience is one of retro-chique where classic meets contemporary decor. Their coffee is amazing and their attention to detail is very impressive. You can pay via Zapper which makes the experience an enjoyable, easy and tasty affair.
Best breakfast I've had in a while!! You really will never get disappointed here. Service is a bit slow but it's worth it I guess and also can the salad bowl be a bit bigger? 😢 it's so good and you actually want more than the small bowl you get
Excellent service from my waiter Muza.
Delicious breakfast. And great coffee.
The breakfast menu also very reasonably priced and I enjoyed the Banting bread.
Cozy street café with a "built-in" pub, The Crafty Fox. Good service and food, with a nice wine selection. I particularly appreciated the finer touches - the wooden slab my lamb curry pie was served on had been heated beforehand. Very good place to spend a lazy, sunny Saturday afternoon.
A great little cafe that we found.
The back entrance should rather be closed as it was not a great first impeachment of the restaurant.
The menu is elegant & we were spoiled for choice of options. The hollandaise sauce was slightly over indented.
I had salmon on hashbrown with cream cheese. They were a bit stingy on cream cheese, but generous with the salmon. A balance would have been better.
The service & pricing was decent and in general a good vibe.
So my average day would start with a cup of coffee. Finding the right cup could be difficult, however they have managed to make it nice. Ordered a cappuccino and it came with probably the nicest cookie you could get with your coffee. Not to small or thin. Good job there guys.
The service was slow. The manager helped me quickly however the waiter attending me forgot about me entirely. After sitting there for probably 45min I had to get up and find someone to take my order.
The food was very nice. The Mediterranean omelet was very good I added some bacon. I will be back just for the food (and coffee ).
Overall a very nice place for a quick breakfast.
Awesome atmosphere, and great coffee. The staff is very friendly and helpful, over all a great place for informal meetings. Would recommend it.
This charming restaurant is alway a lovely place to visit. Whether you choose from the menu items or the delicious baked goods you will not be disappointed. Friendly service and a lovely atmosphere.
I had the most delicious breakfast consisting of an English muffin with spinach, crispy bacon (which loved up to its name), a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. My coffee Freezo was delicious .
We stumbled on to this hidden gem in Brooklyn one rainy Saturday morning. Best red cappuccino in the area. The eggs benedict is truely great. Soft eggs, great hollandaise souce. The treats in the bakery section are truely a treat. The banting brownies a great bite for those of us that are banting.
I had my friends babyshower yesterday at 23 on hazelwood. From phoning to book right through to arriving and setting up was the best service i could ask for. Our two waiters Charles and Matthew handeld our orders perfectly and was so friendly. I pre ordered platters which consisted of a salty platter and a sweet platter, it was AMAZING. But so i knew the food would be awesome because of previous visit to the restaurant. I would suggest this place to anyone. Thanks Nick and your team, we had such an awesome day. I really appreciate all your hard work and wonderful service.
Always wanted to try this place out, but somehow I never got carte blanche as to where to meet for a rainy late morning coffee and cake sesh... Until today. This spot is such a gem. It is street side and cozy, we even sat outside and were still warm. The whole spot smells of fresh bread and good coffee. They constantly bring out freshly baked pastries and tarts. They have an indoor "shop" vibe too, where I saw plenty of people just come in to buy bread to take home. The service is fast and friendly. My suggestion: The bar-one cheesecake or their lemon meringue tart fresh out the oven. If you feel like something sweet, but not cake, have the red velvet cuppacino - hot, sweet love in a cup! Will be back to try something savory for sure.
I'm definitely a fan of this spot! Always good service and yummy options to try on the menu! I was happily surprised by them being super accommodating and allowing me to swap out a croissant for rye bread with the meal I chose - which I might add was lovely and hit the spot!
Lovely brunch and lunch spot , it's close to my work so I visit a lot. The service can be on the slow side but the food tastes good and the decor is lovely. The baked goodies look, taste and smell amazing. The carrot juice is really great and the salads are lovely. Worth a visit.
Tried it out for the first time for breakfast today and it was absolutely awesome! Best eggs benedict in town! Great location (not another mall for a change), great coffee, good service and one or two cute waiters! Enjoy!
23 on Hazelwood was the choice of breakfast today... i had the farmer breakfast and every bit of my plate amazed me. It was exactly what i wanted, the red latte was devine. Situated in Hazelwood near Waterkloof. In an area that is Sodosopa. The village... the new hip hotspot in Pretoria.
Food is wonderful ! Excellent service, great vibe. I'm a regular brunch customer here and I really enjoy it every time. The staff are very friendly and well spoken. You don't wait long for your food. The have lovely herbal teas and freshly pressed juices. I recommend the eggs Benedict and the orange juice, great restaurant!
Its only my second time here, but I must say that I really love coming here. Its such a coY little place.
The services is great and staff friendly. I had the Greek omelette (spinach and danish filled) , and Chai Tea Latte and it was to die for!
I must come back more often.
Went here for lunch today! Service was very good! Myself and some friends camped out here for the day to study for our test the evening, thus we had two meals. I had the pesto pasta, which was good but not spectacular, then i had the beef sliders which i really enjoyed! Each with a different sauce! A very nice place to have a quiet, chilled lunch or breakfast.
Had the most amazing lunch today @23 On Hazelwood. I just love the decor and all of the cakes on display: WOW!
I also love the fact that they have fruit juice made from real fruit, without unnecessary sugars and preservatives.
This restaurant has not seen the last of me....
A well-located, popular restaurant in the Brooklyn area. The restaurant has it's own bakery and seems very popular among those following a "banting" diet. I recently visited the restaurant with a friend of mine and her family for breakfast. I did notice that the menu wasn't as vegetarian/vegan friendly as one would hope, but the few options were appreciated. I had an omelette with Spinach and Feta in, which went down quite well with the fresh rye bread on the side. The rest of my companions also seemed to enjoy their meals. It was quite difficult not to give in to the sweet temptations of the bakery afterwards, but we somehow managed to only buy some fresh breadrolls and banting bread mix for my friend. All-in-all a good experience.
This place has some amazing breakfasts! Went here on a Saturday morning and it was FULL and vibey. The service was excellent and the food arrived quickly and the quality was superb! They also have a small bakery selling some fresh breads and rolls. If you're into fresh sandwiches or a good breakfast, this place is surely worth a try!
This is a restaurant that really surprised me. I've been driving past 23 on Hazelwood for the past 2 years, but I never stopped to see what it's all about. I went there for lunch a few days ago and I must say I am impressed. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I'm not one to order a chicken Burger, but the 3 mini burgers I ate was absolutely fabulous. I know they specialise in Pastries. I must go back there to try some cake as well. If you are looking for a nice restaurant for lunch and you want to be served quickly, then this is the place for you.
Beautiful Quaint little Restaurant!
Attended a Warwick Wine tasting and pairing!
Delicious food paired with one of my favourite wines! Great service too!
Been here two times and on both occasions we left as happy customers For lunch we order the calamari salad! It was above my expectations the calamari was so tasteful and everything in the salad went well with the calamri I would recommend it for any salad/fish lover. The waiter was very friendly and he come to see if we need something on a regular basis. The decor if the cafe is eye catching and make you feel at home! Next time I will taste some of the fresly baked pastries :)
Lemon Meringue milkshake was absolutely divine!!:P I haven't eaten lunch there yet,, but I have bought pastries from their bakery. Always fresh,, soft and crisp!Love it!!!:D The service was fast and great:) another 'hidden gem' :D :)
So I've had breakfast and lunch here, and although the salad and sandwich I had there were thoroughly enjoyable, their real strength is breakfast, in my opinion. The eggs Benedict, the breakfast wrap and Greek omelette are all fantastic options. I'll keep going back for more!

Quiet spot for a week day breakfast, might be the time of year, but it seemed very quiet and dreamy. Attentive friendly staff. Good coffee, they do a few mixed juice cocktails. Food was wholesome and more than enough. I'm from Cape Town so I found the prices very reasonable. Apparently the area around this little gem is becoming a food hub. Keep an eye out!
Great people bakery restaurant in a quiet part is Pretoria. The breakfast was delicious and the Illy Cappuccinos can't be easily beaten. The bakery goods looked very tempting but we resisted this time... Until next time!
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome !!!
We've been here a couple of times and we have never been disappointed.
The milkshakes are awesome, the food always excellent and the service friendly. Today I had the Chicken Mayo Sarmie while my husband had the rump (perfectly cooked) and my mom the hake and chips.
The delightful pastries on display is just an added bonus - we always take few home for a snack later...
So somewhere online it was said this place has Churros and to my disappointment they DIDN'T, however their menu has recently changed. If you do want some churros, just call in and place an order 🙌
We tried the Ferrero cheesecake, it was so rich and chocolatey, wouldn't mind having it again. The lemon merengue isn't really my cup of tea but it done justice.
They have a small bakery selection which you can choose from so it's pretty cool. If you're looking for a chilled out place to have some brunch or just a young cake and tea sesh, this is the place to be :)
The setting has that whole modern, open and relaxing vibe to it. The Pretoria Explorer
A lovely spot, tucked away in Menlopark.
I ordered the eggs benedict, it arrived looking scrumptious and tasted even better. I was a little disappointed with the hollandaise sauce which lacked a bit of flavour.
A delightful spot, worth a visit!
The ambience is relaxed and open, with the need for décor and fine fittings lost here. The atmosphere is set with its unpretentious interior and completely open kitchen. While you browse through the freshly baked artisanal breads, pastries, quiches etc. you're inclined to glance up at the kitchen staff freshly preparing the food. There is a ally way style courtyard for smokers on the side, which is pleasant for both smokers and non-smokers in it's discreet character. The food was delicately and precisely prepared and although the service could be faster, it was efficient and friendly. A definite must for those who enjoy brunches and lunches.
Decided to give this place a checkout based on the review from other Zomato foodies. Nicely amused by the chic of the place - quite unassuming, with minimal pomp. This is a food place, nothing more, nothing less. Very well priced menu.
Ambience = 4. Quite relaxed, an ideal place for catching up for drinks and great conversations.
Food = 5. The menu is quite varied and features some of the common favourites. Number of dishes that carry "23" - 23 salad, 23 burger, etc. Maybe signature dishes?
An added bonus is the bakery on the premises. Whilst the boys opted for smoothies which they found quite yummy, I settled for the Eggs Benedict - added twist with creamed spinach. I enjoyed that heartily.
Wine = 4. The wine list boasts some of the popular brands - can cater for most palates.
Service = 3.5. Quite attentive and friendly. The only snag was asking for my cappuccino to come hot - and the normal happening, lukewarm. Can somebody pls make me understand why restaurants normally serve this drink lukewarm? 😏.
Overall - a foodie's kind of place. Try it out.
A very cute little spot to breakfast. They don't waste time on fancy decor or a vast amount of space. Friendly staff and major food envy with every plate of food that passed. I ordered an omelette and it was quite easy the best omelette I've ever tasted! And then I discovered their little fresh baked sweet treats inside... And took the last of the 3 custard slices that were left. There are no words for those custard slices, crispy pastry with the most beautiful, fresh vanilla custard filling. Give it a try if you are ever in the area! And if you're not in the area, take a drive for a brekkie anyway.....
Delicious treats, friendly service, trendy setting and exciting options to choose from 😊
ALWAYS a treat visiting 23 on Hazelwood and being given the option of freshly baked food as well as items off of the menu. Anna Potgieter
Wow!!! I just had the best breakfast in a long time.. I had the Monte Carlos breakfast wrap with extra avo. I would definitely recommend this meal and restaurant.. A perfect place for a nice breakfast and coffee to start your day.
I had the chicken livers in a pot bread for starter, then the beef burger slyders for the main. The only problem I had was the temperature of my berry smoothie, it wasnt cold although it was delicious. I love the concept of the restaurant. Freshly baked goods, simplistic decor.
23 on Hazelwood exceeded every single expectation I had. We were greeted by smiling staff, tasteful decor, and the beautiful aroma of freshly baked treats. We ordered a banana and berry smoothy, romany cream milkshake, custard slice, and lemon meringue tart - all of which were absolutely delicious! I can't wait to visit again and try out the rest of their menu!
Contemporary coffee shop meets industrial in this modern restaurant. The food is outstanding. I had corn dogs, one of their speciality dishes. Three thick spicy bockwurst sausages dipped in home made batter and fried, served with a sweet mustard sauce and potato fries.
The sausages were spicy and tasty with crisp batter and I devoured all three even though I am more herbi- than carnivorous.
The mustard sauce is fantastic. Sweet and tangy. I could eat it with a spoon.
Real potato fries, crispy out and fluffy inside.
I bought Florentines to take home - sticky and full of goodness. Also a sourdough loaf.
Unsweetened iced tea - top marks in my book.
Service faultless

Had a midweek lunch at 23 on Hazelwood. Was pleasantly surprised. Good location, with parking right in front of restaurant. Eclectic decor with funky, comfortable chairs. We sat inside and there was plenty of space to park a pram next to your table. It was cool and calm, a welcome reprieve from the heat outside.
There are tables laid out with delicious looking baked goods and you can see right into the (very clean-looking) kitchen when you walk in. Had a red velvet cuppachino to start with. The menu is not only a one-pager, but we took way too long to decide what to munch. There is such a great selection of yummy - sounding food on the menu.. eventually we decided on the mustard and steak pasta and the Mexican burger. Winning choices, but I am thinking that most of the food on the menu would be. The mustard-y sauce on the pasta was pure magic. Best pasta sauce I have had in a long while! The sirloin was a bit tough but that sauce made up it for it 100%. The Mexican burger had interesting layers of flavour. Loved the sweet salsa/relish on the burger. We had a friendly waiter with just the right level of attentiveness. Would have loved to sample dessert, but with no space left after the delicious meal, dessert has to wait till next time. We will certainly be going back.
Great for any Cyclist thats just completed a Ride.
Great deserts & cake
Service has improved with time
Fantastic light meals on their menu
Nice to have 23 on Hazelwood close by
Excellent service, great food and baked goods to die for. I had the flapjacks made from oatmeal and they were delicious. They are also very resonably priced.
It passes the one test many of the niche coffee shops don't...being authentic! Many of the coffee shops that are popping up portrays a pretentious atmosphere. This little gem has good food at reasonable prices, fresh pastries and ample seats. Around every corner you discover a new area with more seats and an unique atmosphere
Breakfast meetings have a new place to take place. Great coffee, and freshly baked goods, nestled in a quiet (-ish) neighbourhood and surrounded by breakfast-turns-into-lunch-restaurants.
Very cozy and special place. A big variety of deli dishes and delicacies. Great for lunches or a quick drop in for cake, pastries, salty treats and coffee.
What a nice find on a Sunday afternoon! The freshly baked goods welcomes you as you walk through the doors. The food is good, as is the baked treats. I had the florentine, which was very sweet, but oh so tasty. My partner had the bar one cake, which was nice but a bit dry.
Okay I'm a sucker for a pecan nut pie, and 23 On Hazelwood's pies are AMAZING 😍😍😍 they make me cheat on my diet every time! I've had breakfast and lunch here and everything I've tried is so tasty and fresh!!
Went out for a quick breakfast with my mom this morning to 23 on Hazelwood. We both ordered the eggs Benedict which also seemed to be the most popular dish of the morning as most people around us were also ordering it. Eggs were poached perfectly and the Hollandaise sauce was done to perfection (hard to find that in Pretoria). All and all a wonderful experience with a good ambiance.
I like that they support Banting, and if you go inside and look at the things they sell they have made up some really nice cake mixes that are Banting friendly or gluten free. I don't bant, but it's that attention to your potential customer base that is really impressive.
Moving on swiftly...I had the Toni's glass ice tea which was a nice change to other brands that are sold, and its local. Then the beetroot and apple juice which was also very good, but hey I just like beetroot. For my meal, I had the 3 beef sliders. One with just plain BBQ, the other with a cheese sauce and lastly one with honey and mustard. I wasn't a big fan of the cheese one as I think I just prefer a slice of melted cheese. The BBQ set the tone just right, and then lastly the honey and mustard one was delicious. Another point was that they made their own bread roles. The chips were a bit of a let down as they tasted like McCain chips.
Overall, the service was good, food was tasty, location was pleasing. For a quick meal and you're in the area, for food that won't break the bank.
23 on hazelwood is a quaint cafe situated next to a lot of competition...good competition - but it holds its own.
If you're looking for cheap, straight forward cafe food that's well prepared you're in the right place. The chicken strips today were cooked perfectly, and the hand cut chips are well appreciated.
Visited this little spot yesterday. The service was on the slower side (considering it was really quiet) but my overall experience was still great. Fantastic tea's, a great cappuccino and a yummy fresh spinach and feta quiche served with a mostly crisp salad (leaves at the bottom of the little dish were "old"). Great licatio the for a quick lunch!
A very cute cafe for a nice casual lunch. They have a small menu, but everything is there from sandwiches and salads to curries and burgers. I had the biltong, avo and danish feta sandwhich on rye which i felt couldve done with more sauce, but overall a very pleasant experience! We checked out the dely which had amazing biltong and a good variety of baked goods and some banting options.
Had a great breakfast here! Friendly staff and a beautiful little cafe. Not too sure about how there lunch and dinner menu looks like but definite for a breakfast/brunch.
What a pleasant place this is, from the moment you walk in you are tempted by the range of pastries and baked goods on display. The place is quite big, but has a warm and intimate feel. I had the breakfast wrap (Monte Cristo) and it was divine, the service was also good. Would definitely recommend it to anyone!
What a lovely side-street cafè. Clean and nicely decorated with comfortable spacing between tables.
We had the Breakfast Burger which was made up of scrambled eggs, bacon, sliced boerewors, hash brown, mozzarella cheese and grilled cherry tomatoes all in a fresh sesame seed bun. It was good.
Also had a pecan nut slice, which was a bit dry.... It looked better than it tasted. The lemon condensed milk tartlet was fantastic.
The waiter was attentive and friendly.
23 On Hazelwood , great place for something sweet anytime! The most delicious romany cream milkshake ever ! The service was excellent, and the food even better. The chicken strips was great ,and perfect for a light lunch ! Definitely a must visit !
Being someone super fussy over how an eggs benedict should taste, I have to admit this place outshines a few. Firstly out of 4 places we have testes ,including the high rated breakfast spots, they have managed to get both of myself and my partners eggs exactly how we specified and the pourched eggs were prepared by hand and not a machine (impressing me more). The holandaise sauce was superb in taste and in texture, creamy and rich the way it should be but I do wish they added a little more. Portion wise it wasn't as large as say cappichinos but it outdid quite a few as the english muffin was large, the spinach mixed with rocket so perfectly combined that myself who isint the most loving of spinach actually enjoyed the taste and lastly the ham was savoury amd had accompanied the sauce brilliantly. Along with our meals we also tried out their chai tea latte which may have lacked in a frothy thick texture but the taste and bamboo shavings inside the drink with their home made biscotti was well worth the drink. The restuarant itself was quiet, soft relaxing music in the background and you could either be seated inside around the sweet smelling bakery or outside watching the cars go by ( the cars went unnoticed). The decor itself was rustic along with a slightly more modern bohemian feel to it. The waiters were kind and very attentive to our needs and when I went to have a look at their baked goods, I was helped almost immediately and my questions answered. From reading a few reviews, experiences will always vary depending on who cooks and turns out to be your waiter but I will admit the meal, atmosphere and staff was definately the quality I was expecting and more so affordable if you are a fussy eater as well as a student.
I come here often to have lunch with my "aunt". It's a gorgeous setting, I'm in love with the decor! The have excellent coffee and recently had their chicken salad which was lovely. The service is generally good, a bit slow sometimes but all in all a good experience. A tip from my sister: try their milkshakes!
If I want to treat myself I go to 23 on Hazelwood. Amazing food and value for money. The ingredients are fresh and tasteful. The waiters know their stuff.
Was a lovely set up... its rather smallish doesn't cater for big groups of people really. Service was good. portion size was a tad bit dissapointing. If your a coffee lover and have a sweet tooth then this is your heaven..♡ Really loved the look of the place was very original and eye catching
This place has a really nice atmosphere, elegant but cosy bordering on kitsch. The food is great and everything on the menu seems tantalising, even though the portions are slightly disappointing. They have great coffee and delicious baked goods.
This is a really cute place for breakfasts, fantastic coffee and delicious pastries. The eggs benedict is great. The flapjacks were slightly undercooked and stodgey. With the bree cheese and fig it was a bit rich and I was unable to finish. Sitting out on the patio is great on a day with great weather!
I found this place here on zomatoe, and recommended through others from zomatoe.
I've consequestly come here every week for breakfasts. From their delicious breakfast burger to filling omelettes and we'll cooked eggs benedict. I've never been dissapointed.
I'll recommend to anyone in the Pretoria area ?
The vibe ia amazing!!!!! I love the fact that the whole restaurant is open platform. While you are enjoying a cup of freshly homebrewed coffee you have a stunning streetview and on the other side you see the kitchen staff making food art. I loved the hominess and the sweet smell of your mom's homebaked cakes.
Had a great breakfast. With great coffee and good service. Plus the sexy saxophone was a nice touch...If you're into that kinda thing, which I am ;)
A must try.
Waiter looked at me funny for orderimg a banana berry smoothie. Then I tried the smoothie with a croissant. 4.5/5. If you're keen for breakfast, best spot in pretoria hands down.
I had an Omelette with spinach and feta. It was delightful and I have no complaints. Honestly, I do wish they would offer more plant based options as well as gluten free options.
There is a health movement towards non-gmo, grain free and animal free products and we need restaurants to be more conscious of this.
Overall the quality of the food and the service is really good.
Great that they allow dogs outside.
A wonderful place to eat, exceptional service, delicious food that was well presented. Absolutely loved it.
Great little restaurant. Open for breakfast from early and the food and coffee is well recommended.
Although they have more than breakfast options, I go for their breakfast options. My recent obsession is their Waffle Benedict, think Eggs Benedict but with waffles. 🤤 Their service? Just as amazing.
PS. I always forget to take a photo of the food because I can't wait to dig in! 🙈

I absolutely loved this place.
Perfect for meeting clients, meeting up with a friend, or stopping by for a quick meal while passing through.
The food was delicious and fresh.
Highly recommend 23 On Hazelwood! The Lamb Pie is probably the best thing on the menu. Out of this world delicious! The iced latte is refreshing. The juices are so fresh. The waiters are so friendly! We had such a lovely time!
Love their food and their presentation! Amazing spot in the village! They have excellent service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Great breakfast. The eggs were cooked to perfect, however the cake was a bit dry. Amazing ambiance and service

One of my favourite places in the village! They do close earlier so its definitely a lunch place. Bakery goods are pricey but delicious and you should have seen their older menu with pulled pork and apple salad and really great lamb chops.
A great place to meet up and grab something delicious.
The menu has a variety of options
The coffee is simply delicious
The wait time is not long which is always a bonus
Service was ok.
I wish I could rate this place even higher than 5! From waiters, to service, to atmosphere, to cleanliness, and most of all food, I cannot fault this place. I’m just so chuffed it showed up on my Google search! All days breakfasts and lots of other options. Great drinks menu… Will definitely visit soon again. well done
Lovely staff.
Amazing food.
Great place overall for breakfast/brunch.
This restaurant is a go-to for breakfast and coffee. It's reliable, its menu is varied and full of variety. I love menus that have a lot of vegetables in the dishes. This place has that and is why it's a favorite for me. I almost always have the Cleopatra, but the Salmon hashbrown Benedict is also great. Their cheesecake, carrotcake, actually all their pastries and the lamb pie are all fantastic.
Very nice breakfast. Amazing coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Great service! Open from 07:00 and the staff was very professional.
Great food, great concept, good service. Our food came before our drinks even! Hash Norwegian Salmon breakfast a must.
We took a ride out to Hazelwood in Pretoria this morning to this popular restaurant for breakfast. On arrival the parking out front was completely full not even space for the bike. We managed to squeeze inbetween 2 electric posts. This is the great thing about riding a bike, you can fit into just about any space.
We sat outside on the balcony area, it was a cool day so it was nice and fresh with a cool breeze blowing. It would be special on a hot summers day. The decor, the vibe, the staff, and the food all made this a most enjoyable experience. Definitely a great one to share and visit again in the future.
The menu is so affordable. The portions are also great. Have chicken strips with fries. The drinks are also affordable. Great place to have brunch at. I wished it closed a bit late but I understand.
Good food and good service. There is a lot of construction going on in the area, hence the four stars for atmosphere. Hopefully it will be over soon and the construction vehicles, noise and dust will be something of the past.
The food and ambiance was lovely.
Went for breakfast and has a sandwich.
