Review Harries Pancakes - Pretoria

Bianca van Wyk
What a lovely experience. I havent had pancakes in a long time. Food was delicious. Management and the staff were so hospitable especially to a mom with a 3 year old. A friend recommended this place and it does not disappoint regarding price and proper bang for buck! Will return again.

This is a pancake cafe of SouthAfrica. They have a lot kinds of pancakes. I ordered fig preserved and nuts with cream.

If you are looking to indulge on something either sweet or savory than let me plug on this incredible place Harrie's Pancakes. This place is Ideal for any occasions. Its location is perfect , it allows you to choose whether or not to dine inside or outside. It has a relaxed atmosphere and the pancakes are incredibly delicious.

Harries Pancakes is a fantastic restaurant that serves up some of the best pancakes you'll ever taste.

The famous Harrie's... finally got to sample their offerings... yummy yummy! Great variety of sweet and savory pancakes. A tad pricey... but worth every cent!

Lovely place which is conveniently located in the EW village. There's beautiful artworks around the walls, well spaced sitting plan both inside and out, and the staff is warm and friendly. The coffee was good, and pancake great. The creamy livers were a bit overdone but the sauce they're cooked in was absolutely delicious. Overall I enjoyed my time out there, will be visiting again soon.

Such a gem. Wide variety of both sweet and savoury options of pancake meals. The ambience is really peaceful. Great for solo lunches, friend dates or small grouped business meetings.

Was very delightfull visit. Great friendly staff. Excellent quality food.

Lovely place to visit and enjoy some of life's pleasures for some of us. The menu is versatile and yummie and the meal is well presented. Also in a business area where you can do your other shopping with plenty of parking and helpful cargaurds.

I like the location. You can sit inside and outside under a covered patio. Plenty of free parkin space. Menu has a great variety of sweat and savoury pancakes. You get gluten free pancakes. On top of all you have friendly and professional staff. Definite worth a visit.

Absolutely a lovely experience. Amazing food, hard to pick which one to eat so I'm going to need to eat everything on the menu so I can't complain šŸ˜‹
Ngoni Junior Kamhuka
Offers a wide range of savoury and sweet pancakes and they are VERY generous with the filling! Their pancakes are both fluffy and THICC! Also, they have lovely, captivating art on display

This is my Sunday morning mostly in winter or colder mornings place to grab their nicest pancakes. Its an all season place but I love it more during winter and colder days in other seasons

From savory cheese and mince fillings, to the most mouth watering chocolate moose fillings, Harries Pancakes has it all!
And not only their pancakes are amazing, their breakfast meals are devine too!
Their home made jam is a MUST to try!
The decor is so adorable and makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable.
Highly recommended

Our waiter was super friendly! Came with a group of varsity friends after lectures for a catch up. The pancakes were super filling and prices are student budget friendly. Best of all, although not on the menu, you can request for the chef to make the pancakes vegan with no extra charge!! Definitely would come back

Love the place! Was excited to find out there is a pretoria branch after we had been to the one in graskop and it did not disappoint, great food and the milk tart pancake was to die for!! A definite favorite..

We had a great experience at Harrieā€™s. Itā€™s located at a good place, itā€™s calm and beautiful.
But most importantly, is their originality on how they make use of pancakes for good dishes.
I enjoyed my carrot cake and the service was great.

A yummy treat with a friend at Harries Pankcakes was the perfect way to end what was a stressful week. We opted for pancakes with cinnamon sugar, banana filling and ice cream. The pancakes were all kinds of perfect; however, the highlight was the ice cream! It was really goood!
And lovely food presentation. Staff is attentive and friendly. The prices are super decent. Itā€™s well worth a visit in my books.

Great pancakes, very fluffy and tasty! I had one with bobotie. My wife had a quiche of the day, with spinach. This quiche could have be a bit more tastier. Apparently pancakes are their speciality!
It took quite long before we were served, when we were there a bus of tourists also visited the restaurant.... Shop next door (Dela Goa) is also nice to visit!
Natalie Coker
Peaceful little restaurant in Pretoria with great pancakes. Awesome selection, reasonable pricing and friendly service. Overall great experience at Harries Pancakes.

I'd forgotten about this place. Used to go to the one is Harties years ago! They have the fluffiest pancakes! Filling combos are great which may leave you spoilt for choice! I opted for the milktart pancake. It was so yum! Definitely going back! Not sure if I'd wanna try something else tho...

You simply won't go wrong with this one. Pancakes of the highest quality. This establishment has been in the game for decades now and never disappoints. Worth the trip from jhb

The food tasted great and the service was good too but once and once only for me. A LOT cheaper to just make it at home, definitely not worth the price. Sorry.
Hercules
Food is good and atmosphere is non existing.. decor needs to be updated and someone please introduce them to decent non 1980s suicide music. Get some tips from the Graskop branch ;-)

Today I had the biltong and mozzarella and the smoked haddock savory pancakes. The smoked haddock was delicious and juicy and the pancakes were thin and went well with the cheese sauce. I was slightly disappointed with the biltong pancake as the cheese was not melted and I found the pancake quite dry. Otherwise it was a pleasant experience and I will have to go back for some sweet options.
Johann Willem Meintjes
Friendly service, a relax vibe, best pancakes in Pretoria in a wide variety of sweet and savoury available. The only area lacking is outside of pancakes. Only have white and broad bread. And the health breakfast comes with the basic apple and banana. No interesting options there
Erica Geldenhuys
I have never been a fan of Harrie's pancakes because of their unbelievably thick pancakes. I had a spinach and feta pancake this time and it was extremely thick and super dry. I had to ask for some tomato sauce just to get it down my trachea.

When it's rainy and you're in the mood for something to munch this is it! Harrie's is fun central meeting place for catching up with friends or grabbing something before you hit the shops... Pancakes with fillings that will make your mouth water. From Bobotie to your more traditional cinnamon-sugar favorite.. coffe is good.. tends to get very busy so head out early on the weekends...

Had a delicious savoury pancake. Lots of options even for us vegetarians. I opted for the East African Style which was delicious a d stuffed well.

Prices are a bit expensive.

The decor is terrible. Really think they should invest in a more upbeat look. It will make the place look younger than it's current decor.

Nice little quite area with big trees. Very chilled place.

Situated just off Stanza Bopape Street (the old Church Street), Harrieā€™s Pancakes is exactly what it says. Itā€™s all about pancakes. This seems like just a ā€˜dessertā€™ experience, but do not be fooled, they do offer lovely breakfasts, confectionery, salads, light lunches and off course pancakes.

Anything from the classic cinnamon & sugar (my favourite) to a caramel & banana treat. Their savoury offerings are also decadently prepared from creamy chicken & mushroom, vegetarian zuccini, tomato & mozzarella and my favourite, the Bobotie (South African spicy mince filling) pancake.

The food is never below par which I appreciate a lot! Service on the other hand is a but slow at times albeit always accompanied with a smile. Seating are available inside or outside on their stoep. I would recommend you visit Harrieā€™s and while you are there, go look at the art installation on the stoep seating area.

great variety of pancakes and friendly staff. keep ordering the same pancake fillings and they never dissappoint! Milk tart filled pancake and a Thai styled chicken with chillie marmalade šŸŒŸšŸŒŸ

Had a good time at Harrie's Pancakes. Nice setting and service that is fast and friendly. Boyfriend ordered the peppermint crisp pancake and I got the milk tart filled pancake with ice cream. Pancakes were delicious but super rich so I would suggest forgoing the ice cream!

This was my first time going to the famous Harries Pancakes. It was a rainy day and pancakes were the perfect thing to nosh. I had the East African sweet potato and spinach savoury pancake but the people who ordered sweet pancakes also seemed to thoroughly enjoy them. My pancake was filling and delicious, perfect mix of sweet and savoury and the seasoned yoghurt gave it a wonderful tang. The service was very good and our meals came to the table very soon after we'd ordered them.

Went 2nd time as we were in the neighbourhood..we ordered the cinnamon and sugar pancake, honey pancake and banana and caramel pancake..all were good, nothing amazing or that blew me away..i also had the latte which was average.. the service is good..nice decor..would i go out of my way to go no, if im around maybe will pop by..

Who doesn't love pancakes!!!?? And with the variety here, you won't be disappointed! Great little space as well with art decorating the walls, there is always something to look at. The portions are also quite big so leaving hungry will not be a problem!

What an experience!
We met friends here for pancakes and it was great! Naturally the rainy weather made the experience even greater! This is definitely a place that we'll be visiting again!
We had savoury pancakes:
Thai chicken, mince and bobotie and all of them were delicious!
Aubrey, our waiter, was very attentive and friendly!

Great place to have a breakfast, just a pity the food did not live up to the expectations. The mince and cheese pancake was bland but the bobotie one was tasty. A real winner for me was the moccachino.
Carina Vermooten
I enjoyed the pancakes thoroughly. I had the chilli con carne pancake and a coffee. The coffee was too strong for me but that's just personal preference.

The staff weren't the friendliest and I felt uncomfortable asking for a bottle of water.

The decor of the place is minimal which I liked.

Driving down the streets of Pretoria. I found a area in Arcadia in Eastwood road namer Harrie's Pancakes. Had a delicious sugar and cinnamon pancake and a cup of coffee. The prices were reasonable and fair. Will definitely stop here the next time that i am in the mood for savoury pancakes.

I love the place neat clean I had the croissant with butter cheese lettuce and tomato Wat really Gud is the way it melts in ur mouth after that I had the chocolate mousse pancake best ever was just so divine and my cuz have the milk tart 1

This is the 2nd time we visited Harries in Pretoria, and left disappointed on both occasions. The milk tart filling pancake was amazing, however the rest was not nearly as nice as it could have been.

Their caramel is a caramel flavored toffee with a bad after taste, the lemon meringue filling is actually just a lemon flavored sauce with pieces of meringue, the savory pancake was actually a dry omelette in need of more seasoning. Their peppermint crisp gets extremely hard and chewy after they heated it.

We've been to the Harries in Dullstroom and was much better. Would rather recommend Dullstroom and not the one in Pretoria.
Kemesha
I have heard much about Harries pancakes....and was very excited to finally eat there. The service was good. Both the savory and sweet pancakes were good. The pancakes are a little pricey and I really wasn't blown away.

"July 5 breakfast: One group of friends had gone to Pilgrim's Rest and were raving about the Harries Pan cakes. So, one fine Sunday morning, we drove down to Pretoria to have breakfast at Harries. We had booked a table the day before - do your reservations as the place tends to get full. The place is nicely done and the ceiling caught the eye.Ā

The Strawberry small shake was nice though a bit on the colder side. I had the spinach and feta pan cake. I had requested them to add mushrooms but since the fillings are all made in advance, they wont do any changes. :(Ā

However, the pan cake was good though there seemed to be a bit of an overdose of spinach and a bit of mushrooms would have surely helped. The Thai style chicken pan cake tasted good. The pan cake with strawberry reserve was a bit of the sweeter side. We all had a good time though the prices are on the higher side and the options in vegeterain are less."
Tarryn Jacobs Lotz
I ordered a savory pancake- Tomato lamb bredie with basil pesto. NOM NOM it was absolutely delicious. Also had a taste of the Chilli con carne pancake-delicious! Will definitely be back to try the sweet pancakes
Anna Potgieter
Harrie's Pancakes never disappoints with their delicious fluffy pancakes and exciting fillings. These pancakes are all unique and although they appear different to traditional 'pancakes' they will make you critical of any pancakes you try after these.

I have been a few times and feel it is always best to share with a friend and have half sweet, half savory. My top recommendation would definitely be the mince and cheese as well as the peppermint crispšŸ“
Kirst Talbot
Going by the rule of "everyone shares" because of all the available options, my friends and I got tasters of the biltong, butternut and biltong and cheese pancakes ā˜•
Our taste buds were enticed and we were overjoyed at our choices šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘Œ

The only thing we were slightly disappointed in was the service as well as the prices of the pancakes - I feel that they're a bit too expensive and that costs could drop a bit.. Anna Potgieter

I can't say YUM enough! Go in loose pants because you'll want to eat everything. The service is a bit slow sometimes but the food puts you at ease. Breakfast lunch or dinner - this is a good spot.
The Pretoria Explorer
These pancakes define what gourmet pancake's true meaning is. I mean MILKTART IN A PANCAKE! We ordered the milktart custard with cinnamon sugar, as well as the spinach and feta with cream cheese pancakes. My word! Was that the most scrumptious pancakes I've eaten. Good value for money and most certainly will be returning again. For all you foodies out there Harries pancakes is a must! šŸ‘Œ
John-Michael Bennett
My pancake was delicious albeit that the filling was runny and the presentation a bot sloppy. Compared to the Graskop franchise, it is almost there but not quite yet.
RenƩ Bennett
Nothing like something sweet to take away the Sunday blues - and Harrie's Pancakes delivered! After our awesome experience in Graskop we decided to try the franchise in Pretoria. Although the presentation and food was not of the same standard as that of the original franchise, we still enjoyed it tremendously!!
Dineo Teffo
I am in love with their chicken and mushroom pancake with chew nuts šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹. Not the best thee best place but they have good services and serve great pancakes. An a great environment to get some work done.
Roan Roestoff
My SO and myself decided that we'd give Harries Hatfield a go and we were impressed by the quality in comparison with the one in Graskop.Ā
The food tasted amazing. I had the Biltong with Mozzarella Cheese and my SO decided to choose a Thai-Style Chicken with Marmelade.Ā
The drinks were great. According to my SO, the Red Cappuccino is the best she has ever tasted. I had a Cafe Latte, nothing special but it still tasted good.
Although the filling was not as much as expected, we will definitely return for another seating soon.
Kyle Philip Coulson
I have been lucky enough to always go to Harrie's when it is raining. Never planned! But it makes the pancakes taste even better! Haha delicious food. Great service ! Excellent restaurant
Willem Potgieter
The cappuccino was absolutely terrible. The service was pretty good though. Their pancakes are a little overpriced and quite underwhelming.
Bronwyn Esterhuizen
Simple, yummy, treat-yourself indulgence. This isn't a place you'd come to for 5 star service or a fine dining experience but the pancakes are delicious and will bring a smile to your face.

the thing i really enjoyed about Harries here is the great service. The waiters and also the manager is kind and welcoming to their customers. I had the traditional breakfast therewith a milkshake to take it down and gosh was it amazing. The environment is peaceful and quiet, definitely a place i would go back and try something new on the menu.
Mixy Janse Van Rensburg
Can't beat a good old pancake for lunch and at harries you are spoilt for choice with a variety of savoury and sweet pancakes. The portion size is everything but stingy and the atmosphere is also nice. No complaints
Chantelle Le Roux
Generous portion sizes leave you feeling satisfied.Ā

I ordered a biltong and mozzarella cheese pancake accompanied by a gravy of some sorts. They certainly did not skimp on the biltong and it was a very tasty pancake.

Although there is some interesting artwork on the walls, the restaurant lacks some atmosphere.Ā
The waiters are polite and the restaurant is clean, so overall, it is worth it for the food.
Deon Krause
Cool place close to the CBD to pop away for lunch. Me and my wife used to do this once a week before we moved. We've been back, quality is still great, service good and nice selection of drinks also. I would recommend chocolate mousse pancake

(2 May 2015)
If you want to be disappointed by a plate of overpriced food, go to Harries.Ā We went to the branch in Cullinan.Ā Never, ever will any Harries branch see us again.

Hein ordered the lamb tomato stew pancake with basil pesto.Ā Well.Ā The pancake had lamb in and was served with basil pesto.Ā And yes, the lamb filling was nice.Ā But tomato stew?Ā Nu-uh, chef.Ā You got it wrong.Ā For a price of R80, at least serve this pancake with a salad, some chips, crisp, veggies - ANYTHING!

I ordered the Sticky Pork Pancake.Ā Tsk. Tsk.Ā The sticky side was from a small bowl of sticky liquid.Ā The pork cubes in the pancake was dry and chewy.Ā Once again for R80 ... really???Ā No side salad, no veggies?

So after a very disappointing main course, I ordered the Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Banana Pancake - R45.Ā I opened up the pancake to take a picture ... poked around with my knife and fork.Ā I found a knife point worth of peanut butter, a few chocolate chips and 1 banana sliced up.Ā I sent it back.

Honestly, people.Ā Pancakes cost you about 50c or maybe R1.Ā The very least you can do is fill the pancake decently and at least serve it with a side salad, veggies or something.

I do not appreciate being ripped off and this is exactly what you'll get at Harries.
Stacey Anne Hudson
I thought this was well worth it, pancakes are good, filling delicious! I had a red cappuccino with it, the most expensive is R90 but is a meal, with smoked trout, the rest are reasonably priced
Wilna Bester
Pancakes conjour up images of warm steamy kitchens on rainy days, the smell of cinnamon, sugar and sizzling batter.
So, on an overcast Sunday we went to Harries for lunch.
Service is friendly, competent and not even a busload of tourists made a ripple in the flow.
The pancakes is thick and soft, not at all like crepes. Sweet and savoury, one is spoiled for choice.
Our table had the Bobotie and Dutch bacon, both delicious with their lucky recipients just digging in!
I had the Beef and Bean soup served in an enamel bowl with a lid to keep it warm - rustic and traditional. My daughter had Chicken Vegetable soup.
The soups were simple, flavourful and very moreish.
Of cource we tried pancakes with sweet fillings too. I had the Milktart custard, it was satisfying and good.
Harries is in a small, pretty centre with pleasant street views of Jacaranda trees. Next door is an excellent curio and gift shop.

Never knew there's a Harries in Pta, always make sure a stop @ the one in Dullstroom. Totally love this Pancake House.... See you soon......

Once drove to Dulstroom for lunch at Harries only to discover there was a branch in Pretoria .. enough said ! I love their pancakes - almost always have bobotie with pineapple on the side, they are huge, light & fluffy. Took my in-laws on the Gautrain and then caught the bus - just for fun - which practically drops you on the doorstep of Harries .. something they should advertise. My hubby decided to have a dessert and had a strawberry preserve pancake, My in-laws had chicken and cashew nuts and then we shared a banana, cream & home made caramel sauce, 'to die for' as they say ! Service is prompt, friendly and efficient. Just writing this makes me want to go back soon.

Harrie's pancakes has created a name for itself as an upmarket restaurant selling fluffy pancakes with almost any topping both sweet and savory. The simplistic design is homely and comfortable.
Colin Logie
Gourmet pancakes have to be really good to fill a shop on the daily as harries does. Been on numerous occasions myself and can't get enough. I mean pancake with milktart filling OMG
Lloyd Loots
Only one way to describe the pancakes served here. Simply the Best! Light and Fluffy. A great variety of fillings to meet your every idea imaginable! The service has always been fantastic and food has always been served hot and timely.
