Review Angelos Cafe - Port Elizabeth

This place is amazing, beautiful inside, quality food and drinks. The staff is very friendly and they rock. Keep up your good work. You deserve medals.

Angelos has never failed me on quality food, exceptional service and a cozy atmosphere.

"Good food takes time" is supposed to be the difference between fast food and the so-called "Slow food" eateries. There are also quite a few eateries in the Walmer area but very few restaurants. The word "restaurant" comes from the French verb :restaurer" which means "to restore or refresh". Unfortunately some of the so-called restaurants in Walmer are stuffy, some with music blaring as if you are in a taxi and others just not worthy of the title. Some of these places I will not visit after a long day at work. I will just not feel energized, restored or refreshed. Then there are the three aspects that make for a good restaurant: ambience, good food and service. Does Angelo's deserve to be called a restaurant? Well let me give you humble opinion. My partner and I visited Angelo's on a rather busy Friday evening. We were welcomed by a very enthusiastic car guard. He showed my partner where to park but, being a lady, she decided to park somewhere else. The reception from the ladies at the entrance was friendly and warm. We chose to sit at a table at the window because it was quite hot. Our waiter arrived to take our drink orders. We were looking forward to having a couple of Castle Lite draught beers but unfortunately there were none available. We then settled for Castle Lites (R37 each) and had one more refill each. I also had a Coke (R29) and she asked for a glass of tap water. She was told that tap water was not available. I do not know what the reason was for tap water being unavailable. Maybe they are still playing it safe after the e-colli scare of a few weeks ago or maybe they just do not trust the mayor of our beloved Nelson Mandela Bay? Whatever the reason, my partner then decided to go for a still water (R29). She finished her meal off with a cappuccino (R34). We placed our order. I opted for the Chicken and Prawn Curry (as per the menu) with spicy rice and creamed spinach (R129). My partner was very predictable and went for the Chicken Schnitzel with chips and onion rings (R99). From the time that we placed our order until the time the food arrived at the table seemed like an eternity. The wait was very long! But was it worth it? The answer is a very simple YES. The portions were huge. My chicken and prawn curry turned out to be a chicken and shrimp curry. It may have read "prawns" on the box and some people may think that prawns and shrimps are the same but they are very different. It was, however, billed as Chicken and Shrimp Curry on the invoice. It was very good and the creamed spinach was out of this world. I enjoyed the curry and spinach so much that I forgot to have my rice. Please just don't tell my mother that. My partner gave me a sample of her onion rings and chicken schnitzel. It was a good portion of fresh chicken fillet and not the normal pre-ordered schnitzel that you just need to stick in the oven or the microwave. Even I can do that, providing that I read the instructions carefully. The service was good without being intrusive. The food was excellent. So what about the ambience? I like the décor and the space between the tables. It is not over killed with paintings and stuff hanging or placed all over the show. I did find that the lighting was a bit on the bright side. I would suggest that you think about installing dimmers and I would prefer candles on the tables to add to a more romantic experience. After all it was a Friday night and who knows what may happen it you set the mood..... The menu prices are very reasonable for what you get and the food is really good. The bar prices, on the other hand, I find to be a bit pricey. The bill, including a well deserved tip, came to R520. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger: "I'll be back".

The place is affordable and good place to chill on Sunday. They also have a Sunday lunch specials.

I enjoyed my full breakfast with juice for only R59. The service was quick and food arrived as ordered. Thanks Angelo's will be back for more. Thanks for the hot water with lemon and honey. It really helped with my cold.

Welcoming atmosphere. Friendly staff. The berry fruit shake was delicious! I highly recommend it. Friday fish special is well worth it. Large portions, value for money, looks good and tastes great.

Worst place ever.No good morning when we got there.Tabels dirty. Cegaret buds laying all over .Orderd omelette. Wich was dip in salt .and no salt and pepper on table, order cappuccino was ice cold .will never go back there Waited over 20 minutes just for waiter to come so we can ask for bill.

Where to start, booked a table, which was given away before we got there, note that we were not late. Booking was for 18:30 for 8 ppl, got there at 18:20... Waiter was terrible, had no clue what he was doing. Asked for chicken strips for my daughter, because he said they do that for kids, so they brought stir fried chicken with soya, garlic and ginger. When I asked the waiter about breading the strips and frying them, he said "no sorry, we cant do that" cost me leaving the restaurant to go buy food elsewhere for my daughter. Then again, im not surprised, seems like the "chef" has got a serious attitude problem and doesnt put his guests 1st, thats what I can tell from other reviews also. Our "waiter" never once cleared our table, or even came back to take a second drinks order. We had to keep waving him down, then he would forget what we asked and just carried on running around, and would ignore us. Then, time to leave. My brother in law asked for a doggy bag, twice, cause the waiter forgot the 1st time he asked, then when he received the doggy bag, not all his food was in there, about only half to be exact. Food was mediocre, nothing to write home about. So angelos will never be seeing us again. I should of listened to all the stories about the terrible service, and spent my money somewhere else. Worste service I have ever experienced!

Went all the way down to Angelos, placed drink order, no issue, our waiter came back took our food order, then we never saw the waiter again,waited 30 mintues saw people arriving after us getting their meals before us, waited another 10 minutes eventually had to ask another waiter to find our where our food was, when he did bring us the food it was ice cold and was told it was fresh just dished up. Ridiculous service never again.

The food was great and our waiter was friendly,was odd that there was no hostess to welcome us into the restaurant.It would be nice if u also sold your wine in bottles not just per glass.

Well.... Ordered from a different waiter every time as we couldn't find our waiter... I ordered a gourmet burger and got a plain burger, when I sent it back I got Brie cheese that didn't even cover the patty and half a fig... Just dumped on the patty. Not really impressed.

I think service was a bit poor wouldve been ok if the place was busy an we waited for ever for th food an knwing its at night an u need to stil digests th food before u go to bed so i thnk service so be quiker bt otherwise im hapy

The experience was absolutely horrendous. We had a babyshower there with many guests,we were given an irritable waiter who had no experience in handling a large crowd. Every time we made a drinks order he would get annoyed and forced us to give him a 10% tip. We arrived at 4,made our order at 6 and only ate at 8pm. I would never go back,its the worst restaurant i have been to.

The food was fine,but the service very poor,we didn't even know exactly who was our waiter and after we finished eating had to ask one of the waiters to come and clean the table ,while they were busy chatting to each other ,we again waited for the bill for 30 min after that decided to call them again as a resuilt we didn't even tip the waiter.

I think their food was ok. I just had a problem with the chef refusing to top my meal with onion rings. His reason was that he was going to prepare them in the afternoon and in the morning. Eventually I demanded to speak to the manager and that did not assist as well. Our waiter was away the whole time we ate! Not going there anytime soon.

Our waiter Thando was a star - and it was his birthday as well. The food was delicious with big helpings. But..... The beverages could have been cheaper. Coffee R21.50 and a tin of coke R 18.50 - that was expensive.

We went to Angelos in Walmer about a month ago and the service was not to bad, could be a bit more customer orientated, but the food was good and value for money. Maybe you guys can just put the new menu on your page. This menu is not the current one.

Hello Angelos team we would like to give you guys a big up for the exclusive service you provided to us last night,we truly had a wonderful great time thanks to the Chefs for the outstanding taste of the meal they prepared for us,to Mr Zola thank you Sir, for your service it was on point it truly made our evening a memorable one. To everyone from Management to the last satff thank YOU. 🙌👍👏

The service was horrible! The worst! We got there at 8pm and no one was there to sit us down, we eventually got a table(ourselves) and wait about 20min before a waiter attended to us. We put our order through and waited an additional 1h30min to get our food and drinks. Never setting foot there again

Haloumi & Fig Preserve Starter overfried rubbery tasteless. My husbands Mince Bolognaise, Pesto and Cream on Penne was edible could have been tastier. For an Italian place this dish is misnamed. My rump, onion rings, chips and mixed fresh veg was a bit disappointing as well. Steak tasty yet tough, veges nice and crispy sauce was tasty. Three onions rings ok. Cheese and mushrroom sauce about 3 tablespoons in a ridiculously tiny dipping bowl, was ok. Food was tepid not hot. Chips were nice. Overall i suppose you get what you pay for. We were really disappointed and won't visit Angelos again. Issa the waiter was apologetic and took it all in his stride.

I was horribly disappointed with the pasta and my meal at Angelos on Friday night. It took speaking to 3 managers and almost having to speak to the chef to get my calamari grilled!!! All the managers insisted that when it is 'busy' the kitchen refuse to grill calamari....I have never heard of a kitchen dictating to the customers and managers how they will or will not cook food!

Not one of many words so here it goes. No table setup, cold plates, cold pepper sauce, dull salad with no crunch in the greens whatsoever, three of the same dishes yet one managed to arrive without its onion rings. Now I know this isn't a fine dinning place but everyone has standards. I guess Angelo's have dropped. Use to come here often. No more. Oh and hire more staff. Your poor staff are running around like crazy
