Review Cornuti - Plettenberg Bay

Jason Bailey
My wife and I ate supper here on our honeymoon in Plettenberg Bay 10 years ago. Visiting Plettenberg Bay for our 10th anniversary, we were glad to see it was still in business. The staff were all very friendly and we enjoyed our pizzas. The Strawberry Milkshake was a bit sweeter than I am used to. We love the decor and background music. It was a bit empty when we sat down to order and we enjoyed the quietness. It started getting busier before we left. My wife enjoys Hawaiian Pizza and it wasn't on the menu but they made it for her anyway. The pricing was on par with most of the restaurants in Plettenberg Bay.

After hiking šŸ„¾ at Robburg nature reserve, I always got this restaurant for goats cheese šŸ• pizza šŸ˜‹. The nice pizza in the world šŸ˜ They have better parking šŸ…æļø place too

Tasty pizza, good selection of wines by the glass, friendly service. They close at 9pm sharp - but were kind enough to seat us at 840pm. Recommended.

Great Italian restaurant with spectacular views over Plettenburg Bay. Deliscious menu, I had the pumpkin pizza and the melazani parmigiana (great veg options). The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Plett.

Delicious creamy risotto and freshly baked thin crust pizzas with a variety of toppings. Busy restaurant over load-shedding and obviously short-staffed due to taxi strikes but the staff handled the situation with a smile. Well done to all the staff. We will be back, thankyou :)

It was a pleasant surprise to receive such a hearty Bacon&Avo salad, they weren't stingy on the many ingredients and no iceberg lettuce in sight. They accommodated my vegan husband by substituting the bacon with steamed veggies. The rockshandy was also super tasty. Not stingy on the bitters. Menu a little pricey but expected in Plett. Beautiful view, super staff! I would def go back.

Great Italian restaurant with spectacular views over Plettenberg Bay. It was our first visit in Kynsna, SA. We are strict vegetarian. We just went there as kids want to eat pizzas. But after tried their pizzas and pastas, we went there for 4 days out of our 6 days stays. Edgar prabhuji and Felicia and other staff were very welcoming and always ready to serve you best with big smile and kind heart. Edgar was always help as to find best pizza. We were addicted to their pizzas. They were ready to modified ingredients according to your taste and religion. All their pizzas were prefectly great, right crust, right amount of vegetables, right amount flavour! Even one slice is heaven. We had very good memories with stella restaurant and Kynsna. This pizza place is Jain and Swaminarayan friendly. Prices are reasonable. Thank you for your amazing Pizza! Thank you so much Edgar Prabhuji.

We had a short break in Plett and the Friday evening came across this restaurant after trying to find a place for food late at night (it was around 20h45). They were already closing up but still had patrons inside and said they can help us with a pizza. And we were not disappointed at all, haven't enjoyed a pizza this good in a long time! Thin base with flavourful toppings, can't remember the name of the pizza (was vegetarian), we'll definitely eat here again when in Plett next time šŸ˜‹ I can't really comment on atmosphere, as I said it was already closing time but the staff were friendly and were very accommodating to us in the bar area while waiting for our order.

Amazing views, food and service superb but it's just before the start of the season so a little quiet. Both pizza and pasta options were excellent!!

This was hands-down the best Pizza I have ever had! Thin and soft base, not crispy burnt like most places with a very thin crust. The food was outstanding.

Amazing service. The food was beyond tasty. I have nothing bad to say, this restaurant honestly redefined my idea of the perfect place to go eat. I would recommend this to anyone who eats food.

Very tasty pizza. They have a Stone-pizza-oven and a great variety of pizza toppings. We had a beautiful view and the stuff was very friendly and funny. We can definetely recommend this place, we would come back! Our waiter is called Laughmore.

Popped in on a cold and wet Saturday at lunch, the waiter was super talkative and helpful and seated us quickly. Although it wasn't very busy, there was a big fire going, and effort was made to make the place cozy. Our orders were taken promptly, and the food was well prepared and served quickly and without issue. The fire was regularly stoked, and coffee and sweets were served with a smile. Really couldn't fault the establishment at all, pop in if you are in the area. it's well worth the effort.

Had dinner here last night, and although extremely busy, we had great service from very attentive staff. The Pizza and Chicken salad were great, but the pasta dishes were very poor, especially the carbonara.

I canā€™t digest the fact that the restaurant is rated 3.2 and not at least 4.5. Itā€™s a top notch restaurant serving delicious food with freshest ingredients. The entire staff is energetic and their hospitality is of very high standards. Keep it up guys!
No reservations here but worth the risk. The manager is more than happy to accommodate you. Sharing pizzas are a great way to try more than one of their superb options, we had the pumpkin pizza and the peri-peri prawns - amazing flavour in both. Our waiter (Claude) was helpful and on top of things. We never had to wait to be served but he wasnā€™t hovering. He even arranged an off menu dessert that we spotted them give someone for their birthday.

Our very experienced and great waiter made the evening - and dinner experience worthwhile. He rescued our almost "walkout" - we were there for some time 10 min+, when I had to ask for service. A great menu creates expectations, but sadly, our salad and pizza did not impress. My salad did not have the standard aioli dressing, but too much of a bland "cream" - the Pizza was in the oven a minute too long....The wine list does not compare well with the menu RE creativity. However, this can be said for most places we dined at from Bloubergstrand to Plettenbergbaai (wine country with .....??wine??).

My favorite thing about this place is the way it lights up! We recently celebrated mom's 50th birthday here - an amazing atmosphere, friendly staff and good food...from burgers to pizza! Great for evening dinner :)

A lovey setting. Great ambience. But the managers / owners are eager rude. No management oversight. Pizzas werenā€™t fresh unfortunately. Waiters have no guidance. I would avoid next time.

We just ordered and picked up Two pizzas from Cornuttiā€™s and the service was good and pizza very good. However we ordered off the Zomato online menu and we ordered a Puttana priced at R99 and a La Collins priced at R99. However our bill was for R230. Price on website needs to be updated I think.
fantastic night, so romantic and such amazing food. all i can say is thank you we had a spectacular night. wife had the salmon pasta and i had the parma pizza, was very delicious. for desert we had a very tasty cookie smor

This is the poorest excuse for a restaurant! The manager is incompetent, the staff follows by example and lastly how do you mess up a PIZZA!!!!!! Useless! Donā€™t waste your time, energy, money or patience. What a waste of space.

Not again. I ordered the Salmon Pasta. When asked ā€˜how is your mealā€™ I replied I wasā€™ searching for the Salmonā€™. I could not find the taste of it. It was sparsely layered and what should have been a pasta with smoked salmon flavor , well it was anything but. The manager said he would add a further topping of Salmon and I was grateful.
Some 10 min later ā€˜itā€™ arrived back. The major difference was the re arrangement on my plate.
Again I was perplexed. I couldnā€™t find the Salmon as I anticipated, well there may has been a few cuts of cold / semi frozen bits thrown in but the taste was now very confusing. Almost soapy, quite acidic.
Almost sunlight soap in the mix.The manager didnā€™t ask again and when I left he was nowhere to be seen.
Frankly a disgrace.
Not again. Not ever.
We have been coming to Plett for a few years now and have only been to Cornutiā€™s once or twice and we thought that we would give it a try even though we had already had some underwhelming times at the restaurant.
Our evening began in a line - outside the restaurant - where the lady behind us was allowed to skip the que. We were then told that we would be waiting 45 minutes for a table of four and that we could wait in the bar area until then. We ended up waiting an hour before we were given a table only to have to wait another TWO hours to get our food. When we tried to communicate with the manager, he was rude and uncooperative and walked away before we could finish speaking to him.
I think that there is a management problem and they take in a large capacity of people for which they canā€™t cater for.
The food is good but not worth the wait. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant as it is not a pleasant experience.

Pizzas are amazing... But for the price you pay.. There's enough toppings on it at all. Half my pizza had toppings on and the other half had almost nothing on. Very disappointed...
Joshika Pranjivan
The food was very tasty and portions were perfect, we had a pizza and a pasta. The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was great with a lovely view of the ocean. No complaints :)
Amazing service, great pizza and great cocktails. My husband and I have eaten in several places in Plett this week and this place is by far our favourite. Would definitely recommend and come back! šŸ˜ƒ

After many ups and down at Cornuti Plett for many years. We thought they were on a good wicket eventually. We have been living in Plett for 12 years so I think our judgement is deserving.Ā Well I am sooooo disappointed. Supporting Cornuti Plett every now again, more Now than Again,Ā the Thursday special started looking quite appealing. Cannot believe that from one fantastic Thursday to the next you can have such an appalling meal. From the wrong base, to the pizza maker having no idea of how to make a calzone (isn't that true Italian) then my daughter says "Mom whats wrong with my pizza... It tastes like butter.... " I was so looking forward to it.... When I left I made it clear that we will have no more mistakes or pizza issues.. thus no more support.Ā
So good luck as the Plett holiday season approaches, but you have officially lost one of Plett's most loyal families. We will never go there again.... No consistency , manager with issues ....
Michelle
Extensive wine list , inside and outside seating , good cocktails , and service was efficient . The place is modern and clean . The pizza is good , and there is also other options available food wise .

Simply put, a delicious lunch. My wife had their woodfired pizza and I had a delicious steak, perfectly cooked. Unlike many restaurants nowadays, service didn't drop once we declined the wine list. If we end up in Plett again we will definitely visit
Mr Michael
What a great restaurant. From the warm fireplace to the beautiful lighting and the amazing pizza served by friendly and efficient waiters, will have to come back soon, Thank you again

The only thing this restaurant has going for it, is the view. Clearly struggling with the December season rush. Service is non-existant, and food not on par with other restaurants in the area. Spend your money at Enricos, the Fat Fish, The Table, or Emily Moon instead.
Jen Purchase
Poor service, had three different waitrons who didn't communicate with each other. Waited for 40 minutes to get drinks, an hour for food for a small table. People were celebrating when they eventually received service, and when they did their table received their food 20 minutes after the rest of the table. WILL NOT COME BACK.
Tina
A firm Plett favourite! The food never disappoints and the views are amazing. I had the cranberry and Brie pizza. Yummy! Patrons must understand that during peak food will take longer and if you don't want to wait you must get there early as they don't take reservations. It's clear why they are so popular as quality is never compromised and we've always had excellent waiters! Keep up the good work!
Jane
Very bad service. Two meals arrived and then waited 20 minutes for the other meals. Managers had really bad attitudes. Sadly very disappointing.

The worst restaurant experience I have ever experienced was without a doubt at Cornuti in Plettenberg Bay.

I, and 2 other people, arrived and were told to pick our seats. First of all, The one person ordered a mug of hot water which was brought in cold drink glass. Secondly, we ordered a herb pizza bread for the table and it arrived undercooked. The most surprising thing was that my friend ordered a green salad listed on the menu containing green beans and avocado but when it came, to her dismay there were no green beans or avocado present in the salad. She went up to the manager and told him her concern only to receive a unexpected reply of: "Well you see, that menu isn't really my menu."

This restaurant used to be excellent, the food and atmosphere was incredible however it is no longer good let alone excellent. I would not recommend eating here.

On the upside, our waitress was lovely and didn't seem to be impressed by the manager.

Visited Cornuti today with family. We are vegetarians and we're looking for a pasta. Had the arrabiatta...it was out of this world. One of the, if not the best pasta we have had. Sauce was perfect with a nice blend of chili. The views from the restraunt are amazing. And service excellent. To add to all this, some great music playing. Would recommend this to one and all...

We arrive at the retaurant at 8:00 for dinner, they seat us on the bar area, but this zone doesn't have any waitress... we wait too long for regular drinks and we order food... after 1,5 hours one waitress go to our table to told us that our food is going to take 35 minutes more.... without any apologyze :(. At the end, all the food was ready at 10:00 pm and all the plates at different times so we couldn't ate toghether.... and the food wasn't so good.... SHAME

So against all our Plett friend's wishes, we decided to give this place a try on Friday night. Nice setting with a view of the sea, lovely decor and interesting menu. The waitress was not the greatest so as a result the service wasn't great. Their saving grace was the pizza. Hubby asked for a mexicana (not on the menu but the chef obliged). He said it rated the same as the mexicana from The Table. I had the Judas and it was awesome. Overall it was an average experience. It would do Cornuti management good to notice how many reviews complain about the service and jack that up. It also wouldn't hurt to train your wait staff to make your customers feel that their patronage is a little more appreciated.

After a day of good food, sun and nature we decided to go for a light dinner. Cornuti is a beautiful restaurant with a stunning vibe and incredible decor so we had high expectations.

Unfortunately we were disappointed both in the service and in the food. It took a long time to get still water delivered at our table and because we ordered mains quickly our waiter assumed we did not want wine. We gave up trying to get her attention to place wine order.

On the menu was bacon and avo salad (with cashews, mushrooms and artichokes) and the most expensive pasta on the menu at R129 - scampi e basillico.

The salad had a first: to skimp on produce used they flaked the artichoke into individual leaflets which resulted in zero actual taste of artichoke while technically ensuring they comply (if you so cheap why not just leave it off conpletely rather than try and con the consumer?). Raw cashews, raw muchrooms and the dressing nor properly tossed resulted in a pretty boring salad that disappointed as none of the flavours cane together.

Given the price charged for the pasta I expected a beautiful exotic flavour-infused dish only to receive a pretty bland one without the hints of garlic and cream promised on the menu and they use frozen baby prawns - not even one decent prawn to make their most expensive pasta look and taste incredible.

In my humble opinion overpriced and not worth the effort which is a pity given how beautifully they have done the restaurant.

This beautiful setting is consistently disappoints with poor service and average food. Even outside of peak season expect to feel unvalued..

Oh my gosh. Where to start with this place. We came through for dinner this evening. Waited an hour for a table. When the waitress showed us our table, it turned out that the previous customers hadn't quite vacated the table yet. Service was really slow. To the point where after waiting 15 minutes for someone to clear our table, we resorted to sticking out plates on the empty table next to ours. To make matters worse, I tried to complain to the manager who answered my complaint with the fact that he would deal with (and this is a direct quote) "the man at the table first." Now, I get that the holiday season is tough, but there's really no reason to be sexist about it. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!

Had a few experiences with Cornuti in Plett. This time pizza was good. Place cleaned up nicely and service was great :) Look forward to going back when I am back in Plett.

The first day we went here we were told that its full & we have to wait for maybe 40-45 minutes for a table to open up and that there is a waiting list. We were so hungry we just decided to go dine somewhere else.

On the 31st of December we ended up here again only because our restaurants of preference were closed for private functions. We waited at the door and the hostess ( very short black girl with dreadlocks) was rude & decided to call her manager for back up, when he arrived he was no better, i did no like his tone, told us they were having a new years eve party and that its R600 p.p (hostess never mentioned this) and a young couple we were waiting with said they made a reservation and were let in. Maybe we should've called ahead we thought.

On the 1st all the restaurants were closed except for them, and we were hungry, so we thought that maybe the 3rd time would be the charm, they told us all their tables were booked & we said we just wanted food, we just want to order a takeaway, so the manager eventually agreed to that after feeling uneasy about our suggestion, it took 15 minutes to order a takeaway as the waiters just kept passing us, we waited for our food by the bar & had 2 cocktails, the barmen were friendly but slow. People were complaining to the barmen about not receiving their drinks, we waited for a long time for our food. When we got home we enjoyed our pizza & lasagne but their service needs a huge improvement. So slow.

So the revamp worked. Love the revised setting and the food as usual is well worth a stop. Major problem that its one of those places where the management is the big negative. Rude service when we arrived. But as the afternoon went on they relaxed. But all in all a great resturant with an amazing view
Extremely rude front of house.
šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢

Tasty mojitos and pizza.

Not the most comfortable atmosphere.

Sue Quadling
Terrible service, and rude owners. Won't go back again in Plett and certainly won't go back to your Illovo Restaurant again. Review your service and Management
Mike Emanuel
Lovely after the beach kind of place. Warm ambience, magnificent view, delectable food and good service. Not a top notch eatery but really delivers when you are hungry and want a good pizza and beer. (Also salad)

Cornuti is a winner for me on both looks and taste. There is a trendy vibe and great service. There dishes and cocktails are carefully crafted. You can never go wrong with there pizzas - it was thin, crisp and flavourful

Cornuti Al Mare has actually recently had a complete re-vamp and rebranding, which really suites the place. It has branches in both Illovo and Parkhurst (in Johannesburg) to date, and this is its beachy sister :) Ā

A year ago, and the first time that I started visiting Cornuti's it had a reputation for the best pizzas in Plett (which then changed to The Table), but as I walked in yesterday I was incredibly impressed with both the new look and improved menu on offer. Sadly, the service is just still so poor. After ordering cocktails the barman/waiter actually called me to get up and come to get my own drink from the bar... so that hasn't changed in a year.Ā

On the cocktails side, I sampled:
1. Cuba Libre: Havanna, coke and lime
2. Fresh Fruit Daiquiri (to die for): bacardi, lime & strawberry
and Ā 3. Poinsettia: Skyy Premium Vodka, brut & cranberry juice.Ā
The winner for me on a hot day, has to be the daiquiri!Ā

Prices are still on the high side for everything and I am hoping that along with this re-branding, that their infamous customer service will improve this time because they have so much potential: great cocktails and a beautiful seaview that is hard to beat!
Darryl
This was an experience so bad it bordered on the surreal. The service was spectacularly poor, management was entirely disinterested and our food took almost two hours to arrive. Give this place a miss, there are many excellent alternatives.
Skye Aspden
Remember this place being the best place in the world when growing up. Place has gone to the dogs, no word of lie. Very likely the worst dining experience I've had.

Service took forever. You're an Italian restaurant I assume, no wine menu, oysters the only saving grace. Clearly staff have no process, kitchen have no go by rules and management have no clue.

Gordon Ramsey's nomination for next season of Hell's Kitchen.
Dan Taitz
Worst restaurant experience of my life. Food cane after nearly 2 hours. Absolute joke. Terrible place and please do not come here, it is horrendous
Rose Marie Pereira
Had my first wholewheat pizza with goats cheese and rocket was so delicious, also has the red bull and vodka sorbet which was so refreshing really nice vibey place went in peak Dec season so be prepared for the long wait!
Jacques Rademan
What a disappointment.
If you want a takeaway pizza it might be the place to get one.
However if you want to eat, we'll that is a different story.
Most of the menu on zomato is not available, of the 10 or more wines on the list, one white and one red was available.
Other than Pizza, the Mains were a selection of 3 dishes.
As for the waiter, I had to get my own glass from the bar, never even asked if the food was to our liking.
Will I go back, never !!
