Review The Med Seafood Bistro - Plettenberg Bay

Sat outside with views of the ocean in the distance. Service was good and the food excellent. Got there as other restaurants in the main street had Queues but really pleased we did. Small but well balanced menu and all dishes really good. Highly recommended

This is a hotel dinning room so had something of institutional atmosphere. Our food was good, the service was friendly and efficient and we were visited 3 times by senior management to confirm all was well

Very nice and cozy place and the food is really tasty without being too expensive. Seems like they put a lot of effort into what they do.

Food excellent, waitress was clueless though. She did not know the menu or the specials. But the food was really good.

Went for lunch and had a great meal (the lamb shank in particular is delicious and the chips are nice and crispy).

The service was appalling and when we eventually got the meal it was the worse seafood pasta I have ever had in my life. Then after complaining and sending back an untouched meal and no manger was sent to the table the only discount we received was two cordials removed from the bill.

My family of 5 including me won a voucher to the Med Seafood Bistro , and we were interested to try there food after being recommended to them... unfortunately we did not get to try their food because of one the managers/owner refused to seat us , and her excuse was that there was no space but one of the waiters interrupted her and said “ we can seat them over there with a seater for six “which was conveniently available without a reservation as we saw, but she still rudely dismissed us even when we told her about the voucher ...
I am not pleased and neither is my family. I do not recommend such a restaurant.

We decided to have some drinks at the Med. We were quite surprised by the interesting menu and friendly staff.

One of the best locations in town.

Will be bavk for more for sure☺️

Firstly, we went to the establishment via the entertainer app. We found that as we arrived they informed us that they do not take the entertainer app anymore and that it was stated on a sign (we went to look for this sign and it did not exist). Still, we decided that we will try the place out. I informed the waiter I was vegan and what vegan options they had. he informed me I basically had an option of a pasta dish that was basically a Napoletana dish with olives. so I ordered it and said please no dairy and that includes butter. After waiting for quite a while our food arrived and saw that they grated parmesan on it. Told the waiter I cannot eat this and the ingredients on the menu don't show the added cheese, plus I asked for no dairy, which led to me waiting while my friend ate. When my food arrived, there was so much water on my plate (probably from the pasta) which led my pasta dish to be more of a soup substance. My friend and I both stated the food was bland and overall this was a bad experience and the waiter did not listen. We still tipped but honestly, the service was really terrible and clearly, the owners are not listening to the complaints but instead come up with constant excuses, pointing the fingers at the customers.

At the end of the day,

1. This restaurant decided to use the entertainer app. It might have been a bad business decision, but that is the restaurant's problem and not the clients.

2. This application, however, gets customers to visit this restaurant.

3. They refuse the use of the application making it the client's issue and provide the customers with a bad first impression and a bad experience.

4. Reading other responses to this, they blame customers by calling them cheap, saying that 8 out of 10 times they use it as a soup kitchen and that they should stick to eating Wimpy (this is actually very rude and I can't believe this was an actual response. Plus if a Wimpy is more accommodating to their clients, what does that say about the owners and this restaurant?).

5. Customers will not tip properly if they had a bad experience (bad tipping is a method to indicate that the service was bad and not because they were cheap).

I do hope that they can learn to respect their walk-in customers, improve their service and culinary skills but sadly it seems management is too arrogant and condescending to take the advice. If visiting Plett, I would definitely stay clear of this place.

My girlfriend and I are on holiday in Plettenberg Bay and are always looking for new restaurants to try out, preferably on a student budget. We purchased The Entertainer for 2017, and The Med Seafood Bistro is on it so we thought why not give it a shot.
But let me tell you, going to this 'restaurant' was a poor life decision.

Being the only people in the restaurant, we expected service to be good and the food to be quick. We were wrong. Ordering is no easy task when you have food allergies (Coeliacs Disease), and it took some convincing to get our orders in with certainty of us not being poisoned.
We waited around 45 minutes for some rather dry and tasteless chicken, only to be presented with an additional R36 for tap water on our bill at the end?

Never have I been charged for some local H2O, but according to the Owner/Manager, we are responsible for covering her ice, lemon and glass bill even though the cutlery hasn't been replaced since 19-voetsek. Not to mention that the ice machine broke last week and we were supposedly responsible for covering that too. I have never been spoken to like that in my life, let alone being a paying customer at this restaurant!
Completely condescending and outright rude, the Owner/Manager continued to shout and rant to us that we are getting a meal free for using The Entertainer, and we didn't even order a drink off the menu! This was her justification for charging us for water, even though it was not stipulated anywhere on the menu or in the restaurant that they add such ridiculous charges to the bill.

She then threatened to not deduct the voucher for the free meal unless we paid for the water; I guess the customer isn't always right. She printed out some nonsense about how she can charge for whatever she likes because its her restaurant, even though the article spoke about charges being added in British Pounds (£). Not sure if this lady knew that Plett is still in South Africa, but apparently a 6 hour drive from Cape Town can get you across the Mediterranean.

If this woman treats her patrons like this, I can't imagine how she treats her staff. She was rude and obnoxious, and had some kind of superiority complex over us being in our 20's and looking for a decent meal at a reasonable price. She admitted that she wishes she wasn't registered on The Entertainer, and I sure hope they remove her from this awesome App so others like myself don't fall into the same trap!

The Med was a HUGE let down. Service was poor, the food wasn't good at all. My wife made sure the waiter understood her request for a well done steak, yet a medium rare steak was served. I ordered a milkshake, and she disappeared for 15 mins. When she returned and I queried the reason for the delay, she nonchalantly replied that ' oh I was just inside'. It was also strange that we noted that people who came after us were served their food before us ... but I guess I'd be told I'm imagining things and it's certainly not a race issue, this after I had noted each of those couples where white. They struggled with service delivery, and the restaurant was not busy. I definitely would not recommend them and suggest you search for other alternatives

Still one of the best Seafood restaurants in Plett. Located in the Bayview Hotel and with views of Lookout Beach and Keurbooms Lagoon, we just loved the laid back and relaxed atmosphere. The Argentinian Prawns were sensational. The Kinglip, Fish Cakes and Sole were all outstanding and all reasonably priced. Highly Recommended.

Be sure to stop by if loud constant chattering of waitrons is your preferred ambience. If you go, let me know if you can figure out what their decor theme is. So far I have come up with: a mix of French, Chinese, African and beach rustic. Or a depiction of a train wreck. I'm still trying to figure it out. The food is, well, quite bad. Considering they call themselves a seafood restaurant, one would think they could achieve the basic task of grilling a piece of fish well. But they can't. Unless "well" by your standards is dry on the outside and almost translucent on the inside. The freshness of their produce is also questionable at best. The bottled sparking water was nice though.

Had a great experience at The Med Seafood Bistro, lovely food with filling portions. The feel and vibe is great with awesome service, definitely a place to come to when in Plett

Had a great evening here on Wednesday night, the staff are so friendly and the young manageress was so helpful in planning our activities in plett the next day. On her recommendation we tried the trio of meat and the seafood platter and i must say it was divine 5* for sure. Thumbs up to this great little gem of a restaurant Suprise suprise even the chef popped out to check on us

Probably the most average meal I've experienced in Plett. Ordered the Cape seafood in cream pasta and a classic hamburger. Neither made for particularly memorable meals. Definitely far better options in terms of food, decor and service elsewhere. Only redeeming quality is the low price, but then I guess we got what we paid for.

The listed Zomato menus were out of date, and the manager seemed quite disgruntled when the waitress informed her I'd asked for something I'd seen from the 'light meals' menu which was no longer available. Between that and observing her general interaction with her staff and customers she seemed quite unapproachable, and I was nervous of her coming to check on us - which she never did in the end.

I unfortunately did not even get the chance to experience this restaurant. My review is not on the food or the ambiance, which I'm sure are great but rather the attitude of a women named Marianne, who I can only gather is the owner.

Utterly disgraceful behavior and bad language to match the bad attitude! I had a group of 20 guests with me, needless to say, neither myself nor any of my guests ever be back to support this restaurant. Sadly, from what I hear, this is certainly not the first time she has behaved badly in front of customers.

What an embarrassment to the hospitality industry in Plettenberg Bay!
