Review Magica Roma Restaurant - Pinelands

ThePigThing
One of the best pizza spots in Cape Town! They have a variety of different pizzas, as well as sea food like muscles, oysters and shrimp. They also serve delicious pasta options, I recommend getting the Romulus without chilli, super nice meaty pizza option! I will always be supporting this restaurant. The staff members are all very friendly, especially the receptionist, very polite and always trying to help you out! I wish I could give higher than 5 stars.

Loveliest dinner experience in this cozy Italian restaurant thats been open for decades. Had the penne al forno and it was delicious! Also had the creme brulee for desert and it was mind-blowingly good. Will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.

What a fabulous little hidden gem! The whole restaurant was buzzing with happy patrons. We had the friendliest, most charming waitress who made my cousin's birthday dinner very special. However, the ultimate jewel was the food. The food was sublime. Would definitely recommend a visit. It may look unassuming on the outside, but that's not at all a reflection of what's on the inside.

The food is absolutely deliciously out of this world amazing Michael is so professional and he definitely made us feel at home

I don't know where to start... A friend of mine from Brighton has recommended that this place is a must on your list if you love italian food and he wasn't wrong!!! We took our chances, as we were driving back from Constantine to our hotel, we decided to stop by and see if we could get a table without reservation(which is definitely recommended!!) Despite no reservation, they managed to give us a very nice table in the corner. Michael, our waiter, was very charming and knowledgeable about allergies as my partner is a coeliac. They have a gluten-free pasta, and all their meats are gluten-free, including most of the sauces. The bread they serve before your meal is just melts in your mouth. The veal linguine and the tomato sauce were out of this world. I have eaten a lot of places around the world, but I have to say this was one of the tastiest meals I ever had. I'll come back for sure on my next visit. I just regret that I didn't come here earlier during my stay.

Went for dinner with friends this evening, what a special place. You are made to feel so welcome. I love rissoto and when I didnt see it on the menu it was no issue the chef made us an amazing super tasty risotto which everyone enjoyed. Various pastas was the next course and ended with desert. Really homely atmosphere and a really nice place to chill. Will definitely visit again. Lovely friendly waitress that served us.

Step back in time to this charming traditional and authentic Italian restaurant, something very different from the usual trendy / chic Cape Town offerings. Having managed and owned restaurants in the past, the golden nugget to the success of such an establishment is service, and this was not only on-par, but par-excellence for my first visit to Magica Roma. After moving to the city a few shorts years ago from Auckland, NZ, I can’t believe I have only found this spot now, definitely looking forward to many, many more visits. The floor always had attentive staff around, willing help with menu selection, or top up your glass. The booth seating was intimate, with regulars being charmed with their favourite meals without opening a menu, while the owners were ever present either suggesting wines or making sure patrons were happy. Our visit was both business and celebratory, a venue worthy of such an occasion I believe! The menu is classic with extensive selections that will make your mouth water, including specials on offer. Our table opted to start with the Baby Calamari Tubes with Chilli & Garlic, Beef Carpaccio (Tuna is on offer too), their famous Bean & Lentil Soup, and a Garlic & Herb Focaccia to set the mood. We didn’t hold back with main courses either, Ossobuco (Veal shanks), Veal Fillets with a Mushroom, White Wine and Sage Sauce (I think), and lastly the Ribeye that got much attention (with 2 of 4 pax deciding to order), served on Spinach, topped with Caramelised Onion and a sauce I cant recall, oops. The wine list and drinks deserve equal attention, with a vast selection of Italian options, from wine to Grappa, delivering a truly Italian experience in Pinelands, a suburb on the outskirts of the CBD. All in all, this long standing institution in Cape Town is a must to visit. I believe it remains a model choice for not only family and business visits, but some quite regal visits too. You just never know who you may sitting opposite you. NB: Book in advance Ciao ~SB 🍇

What a delightful italian restaurant to relax with great company, great wine and quality italian cuisine. Food was served promptly following our order and waitress was informative, friendly and attentive to our needs. Wonderful relaxed ambience so will definitely be back again in the near future.

An absolute authentic Italian cuisine awaits you when you enter Magica Roma. I was thrillingly surprised when the chef himself came to my table to enquire about my likes and dislikes, to create a gorgeous vegetarian dish, off of the menu, catered 100 percent to my taste. This establishment cares about your satisfaction on a personal level and prides their reputation accordingly. I was treated like a princess, dined like royalty and left feeling sated and completely loved by my experience. Thank you to the owners, chef and staff for taking such pristine care of us, your patrons.

Loved the vibe. Food was amazing. Authentic Italian cuisine. Staff were happy and amazing. Restaurant was full…and I can definitely understand why! What a gem.

If you are looking for an authentic Italian restaurant, look no further than Magica Roma. Situated in Pinelands, there is limited parking close by. But the walk from your car will be worth it. Last November we had to collect the kids from the airport. Their flight was due to land just before 22h00 and I decided a meal out beforehand would be perfect. I was already in Cape Town so Dave drove through and met me. We invited Eric and Bev to come along so we could catch up after our overseas trip. Magica Roma was ideally situated for our trip to the airport. It offers proper Italian food, in a setting much like you would find in Italy. The bathroom is through the kitchen and the tables are so close together you are part of each others’ conversations. The lighting is not bright and the acoustics are not great. But, the meals we have had there have always been excellent.

I’ve been to Magica Roma often but not recently until cousins booked for a meal there last night. The evening was lovely but the meal was disappointing. Magica Roma isn’t cheap. I would have loved a good steak but when most of them have SQ instead of a price I both get nervous and don’t want to appear cheap by asking the price. So point 1/ find a way to show your prices. SQ is fine for 2 or 3 top dishes but not for 70% of your steaks.

We ordered. I got a pasta and I honestly thought it was a starter. Lovely and creamy but not much to actually consume. And pretty blandly presented. My wife ordered kingklip that came with tomato and cream sauce and a side salad. She was disappointed. For R180 she felt it was overpriced, had too little cream in the sauce, there was no garnish to make it look pretty and the side salad came with no dressing. For the price they could have done more. My sister’s pizza (quattro formaggio) to me seemed quite flavourless. Ok it’s 4 cheeses, how exciting can it be, but then adjust that top end price. I’ve gone on enough

In summary: good meal but overpriced for what you get. If you’re going to tart it up a bit you can charge the bigger money. Won’t be hurrying back...

Quality Italian hospitality, atmosphere and most importantly food.

I booked a table here for my anniversary. We we greeted with enthusiasm and seated in the "special section" at the back where the chef continuously came around to talk to us, suggest dishes and make sure everything was ok. What was most interesting to me was the chef's willingness to redesign his dishes to suit your taste buds! He said that he has modified countless dishes depending on what his customers like and he has even made up dishes which he cannot remember or replicate. I thought this may be a bit risky since I did not know what I felt like but I knew I wanted it to be traditional and simple. I opted for the risotto ravioli (which was called something else on the menu), my partner had the lamb. His was not as tasty as the vegetarian option unfortunately but I thoroughly enjoyed mine with cream sauce. The snail starters were very good and as was the tiramisu which I ordered for dessert (it had a lot of coffee and liquor in it but is made by the kitchen.) We ordered a beautiful red blend which complimented the food.
I really liked the surprise of the sparkler at the end, it ended the evening off well and was the cherry on top!
I will be back again for pasta and pizza! Cannot wait!

Magica Roma is one of the old Cape Town institutions and it feels like it - stepping into the restaurant feels like a time warp back to the 90s. Clearly it works though, a big restaurant in Cape Town that’s full on a winter Wednesday must be doing something right. Which they do - starting with the food! It’s good Italian fare, subtle with good flavours at a reasonable price. The highlight was their Saltimbocca and Panna Cotta. I will definitely be back for both and can see myself becoming a regular.
Pinkiedimop
The food was very tasty but a little on higher priced side eg R72 for a dessert. However what was seriously disappointing was refusing me a glass of water. legally speaking, restaurants that have a liquor license are obliged to provide patrons with free tap water. This is according to the liquor act norms and standards (the relevant section is 4.7). In fact, any patrons that are refused tap water for any reason can lodge a complaint with the Western Cape Liquor Authority. It just feels so off putting and greedy , rather give me the choice and let me decide as your paying customer if I want bottled water.

Have been going to Magica Roma for close on 25 Years. This Resturant offers the most amazing authentic and fresh Italian food anywhere. The food is very well priced and I highly recommend for lunch or dinner.
Imogen Searra
This is the best Italian restaurant in Cape Town without a doubt! The atmosphere is truly authentic and the service is impeccable. You feel like you are stepping into the private home of the owner, as he treats all his customers like long lost family. These gem of a restaurant is a must-do for all food-lovers. I highly recommend the Panzerotti Ricotta- it is the most delicious pasta you will ever eat!
Jaryd Kay
This resturant has an authentic feel and it shines through in the food. The portions are generous and the flavours bouyant. I've yet to be disappointed after a few visits, save for the verging on unpleasant seating arrangements which i always find myself on the wrong side of. Nonetheless, highly recommended for any Italian food lover.
Marcio Lopes
Magica Roma has an excellent feel to it: really authentic and intimate experience. Service is exceptionally friendly and quick. I was only disappointed with the size of my meal but apart from this it was excellent and tasty.

After living in Cape Town for about 15 years, we finally decided to give this place a try. I've always heard mixed reviews but wanted to try it out for myself. It is a homely, authentic Italian restaurant and service is friendly. That said, the overall feeling at our table was that the food was good but not exceptional or overly memorable. I'm not sure I would rush back but I'm glad that I've finally tried this Cape Town institution.

If you haven't been in Italy and you want to feel the vibe if an Italian restaurant , this is the right place. It's decorated like a country side trattoria, full of wine bottles on the walls, low ceilings, a space divided in smaller sections so every table can feel intimate. The lighting is also warm and homy . The owners are from Italy, all super friendly, and the staff is good and fun. The food is clearly not original Italian, recipes have been adapted to local desires, but that's what have been keeping this place running for so many years. Prices are fair and worth a second visit for the relaxed atmosphere.
Natalie
Ventured out to pinelands to come to an old favorite.
The atmosphere in the place was warm and welcoming, the waiters provided top notch service.
We all had 3 amazing pasta dishes and of course the desert menu came out and it was topped off with a top class cheese cake.
Definitely, as always, will be back
Ryan Goodman
One of my favourite italian restaurants. Low ceilings and heavy wooden furniture set close together provide a warm homely feel. Etzio and his staff make you feel like you're part of their extended family and the food is some of the best Italian food in Cape Town

Andrew Campbell
Great meal - yet again!

We love that Magica is open on a Monday, and popped in at 7pm. The place was packed, lots of staff, none of them standing around. Two of the owners were everywhere.

We had our usual antipasti - caprese, calamari, fried onions, shaved brinjal and butternut, but with extra calamari and without prosciutto. Superb.

Followed this with a shared portion of kabeljou (cob) on a bed of spinach and a garlic, oil, and chili spaghetti side. The fish was great. Washed down with Tokara Chardonnay, on special whereby a scratch card offered the chance to get a free bottle. We picked a blank ticket - no freebie

Finished off with a shared Panna Cotta - also great. It's my favorite dessert, and my litmus test for a restaurant. I like vanilla with a small amount of fruit sauce - nothing too different or trying too hard. A shared portion wasn't enough - and we hadn't shared it 50:50.

Having booked late, we were seated next to the kitchen. Normally not ideal, and having offered my wife the seat with a view of the restaurant, I really got to see how efficient the operations are at Magica. Really impressive!

A nice homely Italian feel , started with the asparagus and artichoke covered in cheese , was tasty but didn't seem home made. The sole we had came on a bed of aubergine and some thinly shaved veggies , the sole was like butter and combined with the aubergine was really really good , service was excellent

Plan in advance and make a booking I got lucky with a cancellation. I've heard so much about Magica Roma so I had to give it a try, it was so worth it. I always go for pizza over pasta, but wow did their pasta looked amazing!! The atmosphere is great and it felt like I was in Italy, the staff make you feel very welcome and the kitchen staff pop around to the tables. I'll go back for the pasta! Oh and Tey are very reasonably priced.
Andrew Raeburn
Book way in advance ! It's a family style honest Italian Restuarant. All the classic Italian dishes and delicious oyster starters.
The hot asparagus and mushroom bake starters were very boring! Mushrooms raw, hot cheese sauce; there you go! The seafood pasta is great , vongole average, but the pizza, Devine ! Great serving staff and service. It's so refreshing to eat at a "locals" Restuarant that is as good as the tourist locales!

This place makes you feel like you're sitting in a mountain hut somewhere in the Alps. I don't think the restaurant has been upgraded since 1920, which is great, and stands out from the modern Italian restaurant type we get all over town, and adds to the authenticity of the venue, which seems to be run by everyone in the family from grandfather to grandchild. The selection of wine is great including a big variety of Italian wines, albeit a little more expensive than other places. Great experience and worth a try. Also beware, this place is ALWAYS busy and has a great atmosphere.

First time having dinner here, apparently it is a household name among Italians in Cape Town. Dario and I started off by sharing the Ravioli Alfredo. According to him, the pockets were quite small but they were sufficient for me. He then had the beef fillet,as a main, which he seemed to enjoy. I chose the garlic and chilli calamari, which was slightly too salty. Overall, the food was sufficient, the restaurant was full and the atmosphere was cosy.

✔ portion sizes
✔authentic Italian decor
✔ great service by Georgina

❌ slightly pricey
❌food overseasoned

Disclaimer, as I dined with an Italian family tonight, their opinions have influenced my review 😊
Catherine
It's been a while since I've actually eaten at this Pinelands institution, but we are regular orderers of their take-away pizzas. The time they give you for collection is usually pretty accurate, and these thin-based wood-fired beauties are never stingy on the ingredients. :)
Lucinda Villain
Second time we've been here and still blown away by the explosion of flavours in each dish. Service is excellent even when they are full house. Desserts are a definite even when you don't have space, make some!

Remember that scene in Lady & the Tramp where the Italian chef is hanging out in his alley and serves a tray of spaghetti to a pair of dogs and plays music for them? Do you ever wonder what was going on in his life, that that seemed like something to do?

This place was probably The Best Italian Place once, but now there are other nice and new places that aren't in Pinelands, but it's still charming and nice and you can catch yourself being curious about the kinds of people who go here and work here, like with the alley accordionist for dogs.
Sumendra Chetty
Such a treat! Magica Roma has become sort of a celebration hang out for us! Fantastic homely food with a refined twist. I have to say I've enjoyed it every time, didn't book on our last visit but we were warmly welcomed by our lovely host. We both had vegetarian dishes- mushroom pasta- AMAZING!
Kerry Garden
Enjoyed having dinner here. The veal is really good and my other half loved his steak. The waiters are extremely well trained pleasant and have a sense of humor.
Ruby Bunjun
I have never had a bad meal here! That said, we don't go very often because it's a bit more than the average student budget will allow. The food and service is always excellent and this will remain one of my favourite places for a long time.
Simone Hasselbach
We used to frequent Magica Roma quite often when we my husband stayed out in Pinelands. Sadly we have but fond memories as we havent had a chance to go in the last while. That being said, its always hard to get a reservation because the atmosphere is great and the food even better. We always had the veal and chops when we went.
Pree
Italian cuisine at its finest. The first time I went to this restaurant a vegetarian meal was made for me using the tastiest black mushrooms. I often have dreams about that dish...it was that good. Sadly the second time I went to Magica Roma the waitress did not indicate my needs to the kitchen and resulted in normal button mushrooms in my meal, I shouldn't complain because it still far exceeded many Italian restaurants that I have been to, but my black mushroom pasta dish was sorely missed. The staff at this fine establishment is great. We came without a reservation after my graduation and they were more than willing to accommodate us on such short notice, even though they were fully booked. Overall an amazing place with great food and even greater wine.
Callan Gallacher
By far the best Italian restaurant ever!! Wonderful service. I wanted a specific pasta that was not on the menu on request. EXACTLY what I wanted. The owner came to our table and we felt very welcome.
Capt Cape Town
A hidden gem in a spot that most people would just pass by.

The food is fantastic and is the real Italian deal. A wide selection of teaditional Italian dishes that includes a variety of amazing Kingklip dishes. Pizzas and pastas are not the usual franchise mass produced food, but hand made with the best ingredients.

Definitely try Magica Roma. It is a bit more expensive than other Italian places, but boy is it worth it!
Jana Lorraine Pretorius
Magica Roma is unquestionably in my Top 3 favourite restaurants and, I would say, probably one of the most underrated and lesser-known dining spots in the Cape. Although the location and general appearance of the restaurant are humble and unassuming, the quality of the cuisine is utterly magnificent. It really is a treasure-trove of continental Italian culture and cuisine, right in the heart of Cape Town's Southern Suburbs. Appropriately, the Italian owners and hosts were given the honourable titles of 'Cavalieri Del Lavoro', i.e. Knights, by the Italian President, for their authentic, ambassadorial representation of Italian culture in an international location. After years of dining there, I have never once doubted their worthiness of such a title, and Magica remains my go-to restaurant for any celebratory occasion.
Jessica Stromin
Seriously authentic Italian. A family favorite, Magica Roma always serves up delicious, quality food. The signature veal is perfect and you can't go wrong with a pasta. Great service and value for money!
Elaine Lahoud
Italian at it's best! Magica Roma has been around for many many years. A traditional Italian restaurant in all aspects from decor, music, ambiance and the best Italian flavours you will find in Cape Town! The food is so delicious and the service is great too!
Kimala Ross
Authentic Italian food and excellent service. This charming restaurant has wonderful ambience and offers a variety of traditional Italian fare. Their spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino is my recommendation - simply delicious, fresh and flavorful.
Bernard
Faultless. Experienced, professional, passionate owners keep the regulars coming back for years. Very authentic Italian food, decent specials and excellent wine list.
Mikey Nathan
This is really a forgotten gem. Classic Italian food and atmosphere. It's a local eatery and sadly it's been forgotten by us snobs on the Atlantic Seaboard. When I walked in it reminded me of the Italian restaurant I lived above in Switzerland. Coming
Romi Diamond
In my opinion it's the best Italian in Cape Town, I have been going there what seems like my entire life and have never had a bad meal, everything just seems to be perfect. My personal favorite the calamari with grilled vegetables.
Rashmi Gosai
Pizza was delicious, calamari was amazing, dessert was the perfect end to a great meal. Atmosphere is cosy with people from all parts of the world.. service was impeccable, so friendly and accommodating.. this place is an absolute must!
Kyle Winik
Unbelievable Food and awesome service. Treated like family, made to feel at home and always as good as the last time ! Will definitely be back !
Pen Trevena
Possibly one of the best meals I've ever had in my life! This restaurant is brilliant, o had the carbonara and could've eaten another 2 portions it was so fantastic! The staff are lovely and it feels like you're in someone's home. Can't wait to go back!
Ross Morrison
Finally I can rave over a meal!!! Great Penne Arabiatta 😀 - absolutely fabulous in fact. I can not say anything less. Do not bother ordering the fancy dishes - this place makes the basics perfectly
Dylan Craig Boyes
Could not have asked for a more fantastic meal! The service was speedy, the stuff friendly and the atmosphere was great! In all a great night out!
Sam Coetzee
Veal Hawaii Medallions was absolutely define. Best I ever had. My wife had Pettit di Polo alla Fiorentina. It was melt in your mouth tender.
The atmosphere is great, Italian music, an very competent staff!
Emma Bowen
This place is magic! The BEST Italian restaurant in Cape Town! We always go here for family celebrations as it has a variety of Italian food for everyone which we all love. The pizzas are good no matter which one you choose and the Pasta Alfredo is highly recommended! Waiters are friendly and helpful. The restaurant also has a good selection of wines and is the perfect place for any celebration! Desserts are great too, particularly the Creme Brulee. The only problem is that you have to book at least the day of when you want to go because most of the time they're usually always busy and particularly on the weekend. Either way I highly recommend this Italian magic! It makes you want to book a flight to Italy straight away!
Christine Du Toit
This is like eating in Italy! Authentic Italian food with the warm hospitality of the owners. We were served a plate of different antipasta prepared by the chef's recommendation. Excellent! Meat, calamari, eggplant, salad. For main we also had a platter of meat with slices of parmasen cheese, spinach and chips. Very taste!
Zelme Swart
Best food ever!!!! Just love the Ravioli, it's to die for! I could easily sell my soul for it. Nice welcoming atmosphere as well, recommended for any occasion.
Donald Stockhall
One of my favorite spots.
From the food to the wine, you cannot go wrong.
They are quite busy, so I suggest making a booking. You can order any dish off of the menu for a most pleasant dining experience. Definitely worth a visit.
Cape Town Diva
Wow! This place is an institution in the Mother City. 5 minutes out of town (for those of you who panic when you have to leave Sea Point), this is authentic Italian so get there & thank me after. Owner Ezio De Biaggi is on the floor checking up on everyone's meal which makes a big difference I can tell you. The tables are a little too close though which isn't great if you're sitting next to someone who doesn't know how to speak softly.
Still it has a lovely atmosphere, and I really enjoyed it!
Dale Bedford
An iconic and authentic Italian restaurant I had never eaten in until this week. Location is "interesting", between a park and small shopping complex in Pinelands, however the menu choice is extensive and the seafood is raved about - for good reason. Try the calamari and mussels in creamy white wine sauce. Delectable!
MelbourneLops
Easily one of the most popular Italian spots in Cape Town - Magica Roma has been around for yonks and they have an impressive following because they are almost always fully booked. Try the Linguine Montanara – veal ragu, mushrooms, onion and tomato… it is ridiculously good. great spot for a romantic date night or a vibey night with family and friends. fantastic service and delicious food. Also, it won’t break the bank.
Shante H Hutton
I just love the family atmosphere here and the fact that there aren't really any menus, it's more of a "tell them your feelings and they'll find you your food love" - homely meals are the thing, and whilst it might not be the best Italian in Cape Town but it's fun.
Graham McKinon
Simply put this is the best restaurant in Cape Town maybe even South Africa. You won't be disappointed but don't forget to book. Excellent service, classic Italian kitchen and my favorite mushroom soup.
Tiyaarah Cloete
Some really solid food, most restaurants I encounter in Cape Town are usually halal friendly, unfortunately they are not - forcing me to eat "vegetarian" for the night. Overall, it was a lovely experience nonetheless
Joseph Neethling
Scrumptious food, good service and wonderful ambience. Several visits and always the same experience. I can recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a wonderful dining experience.
Lesley Marks
Definitely one of the best service I've experienced. We were a large group, waitress was prompt efficient and friendly. Loved the atmosphere and the food was top class.
Samantha Sampson
Magica Roma is a good ol' faithful in Cape Town. Not many people know about it because it's tucked away in Pinelands but the locals and regulars definitely keep the place busy so booking is essential. The pizza is incredible and will never disappoint but I had the pleasure of enjoying their special dish with aubergine baked base and calamari on top... This was pure joy! The vibe is very family orientated and old school so if you are looking for a trendy restaurant, I would not say this is the place but if you are looking for a wholesome and cosy place, book your table now.
Jomari Steyn
Excellent service on a busy night!* Very warm and welcoming atmosphere! Truly Italian!!!!

Food was exquisite! Compliments to the Chef!!

Be sure to make a booking in advance!*
Debbie Bergmann-harris
We were doing business in Pinelands and asked where we should go, there was a resounding chorus for Magica Roma and a very lucky booking made. It wasn't a special day of the week and at lunch and they were packed, so booking is essential.

We chose a selecition of hot mushrooms, asparagus and artichokes, beef carpaccio, antipasto, semifreddo and to finish panna cotta and coffees.

The service was very efficient and moved seamlessly . Our final conclusion was: Very nice but nothing really special
Allan Moita
You certainly do have to look quite hard for this little Italian gem but once you find it, you'll struggle to find anything better! It has been recommended to me by more then one person because I love Italian food. Thankfully it did not disappoint.

There was a very warm welcome at the door and an extremely knowledgable waitress at the table. A real "old school" style, with white table cloths and overlays, napkins and full settings.

The menu is simple and straight forward. We ordered meals from it as well as one of the specials. The rabbit was fantastic. It's not the easiest thing to cook but they got it spot on.

Great food all round, huge variety on the wine list and other then being a little old fashioned, a really great dining experience.
Ian Burrows
Magica Roma never dissapoints. Walking in you can feel the Italian ancestry and there is always a warm welcome with extremely knowlegable staff.

I ate the Veal Pasta which was amazing but I had some food envy when the sirloin arrived. The pasta was great, rich and satisfying. The bottle of Excelsior Shiraz we ordered went down well and the range of Italian wines is fabtastic.

One of the best places for Italian in Cape Town for sure. The classic carbonara was also great.
Johan Schoeman
The best food with the best people...a must !!
The suggestions from the pleasant people serving you is much better than the menu and the food will be fantastic !!

Margot Johnson
Great, assertive, welcoming owner. Our wine was very average (and far too warm for a red... Kept in the kitchen perhaps), fish was tasty, sauce was straightforward lemon butter, vegetables were disappointing, staff were fantastic and attentive on a busy night! Would go back only if I'm in the area.
Paige Iona Errera
Food: What you'll find at Magica Roma is typical, comforting Italian fare. They are renowned for their antipasti (which I always love) and their pastas.
Wine: The wine list is decent with quite a few imported Italian wines, but we never make it past the page with their prosecco selection.
Ambience: Cosy and old school.
Price: The meal was reasonably priced.
Martini
I've been to this restaurant about 10 times and always make a beeline for it whenever i go to Cape Town ..even if it is a bit out of the way for me in Pinelands.
It is always been consistently good and must be one of the best Italian restaurants in Cape Town. I've never had a bad or indifferent meal there. ..it has always been tops!
It is definitely worth a visit.
David Greenway
Magica Roma is this unassuming little restaurant which you walk into with low expectations and leave with the highest praise.
It's a traditional little Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere and great wait staff who are intelligent and attentive.
I ordered a linguini bolognese, which is my baseline dish for finding out whether an Italian restaurant knows it's stuff.
To say I was blown away would be an understatement. The unassuming dish was full of flavour and perfect, for me at least, in every respect.
I will be heading back K there as often as possible when I visit Cape Town.
Alan Tucker
My best place to eat in Cape Town for the past 20 years. Great food, extensive menu, each meal prepared fresh. Very friendly owners. You MUST book. Well priced.
Ryan G
In my view, probably the best Italian restaurant in Cape Town. Friendly staff, energetic owners and unbeatable food. Favourite dishes include the sliced Beef Fillet, Spaghetti Bolognese, and whatever Etzio recommends. Perfect for that special occasion, corporate lunch or family outing. NB book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
Sherri-Lyn Corbello
excellent food....competent service. feels like you are eating in a neighbourhood restaurant in a village in Italy. Always busy...always on point
Craig Ian Lester
My favorite Italian restaurant in Cape Town. In my opinion, it is one of the best Italian restaurants. Good value for money, good service. The food is unpretentious and simple, but delicious. My favorite is the Fillet Steak on the bed of spinach. Their pizza is brilliant. The calamari is always done to perfection. My wife loves the spumone dessert. Well worth a visit. Book in time to get a table, as they are always busy.
Ants Anthea Fletcher
Ate out there in saturday evening and was quite amazed to get a table. Food always good, although found he service a but shoddy that night. Have always had good service all the other times. I ordered the lamb chops but next time i would def order the cured meat platter and other tapas type foods
James Hickman
It’s been around for years and years and remains a great place to eat. I have always enjoyed my meal. Another great owner run restaurant.

The location is a bit out of the way but it is worth a drive.

They remain one of the best Italian places in Cape Town and caters to a wide range of tastes. One of my best meals is the calamari steak but everything is good.

It won’t leave you with a "WOW" feeling but more of an amazing home cooked Sunday lunch type of feeling.

It’s traditional and not trendy, but that is by design.
Anita Shapiro
I used to work in Pinelands, not exactly a suburb known for its restaurants, the exception it seems being Magica Roma. So I was in for quite a surprise when my boyfriend offered to take me there for lunch in the middle of my workday for my birthday. He insisted on making a reservation, which I thought was rather silly at the time, I mean a Thursday in the middle of the day in Pinelands? Boy, was I wrong! It was packed, and the waiters worked efficiently and with energy to tend promptly to all the lunch time patrons. We were told by the owner, who strolls around to chat, that they have two dinner sittings each night. An earlier slot for families and a later slot for other diners! The attraction? Plain, honest to goodness Italian fare. We had penne Arabiata and gnocchi with a cheesy sauce. Portions are large, I had to take a doggy bag back to the office, but it was so delicious that I finished it at my desk later.
