Review Essence Cafe & Grill - Pietermaritzburg

Essence Cafe exceeded my expectations. The food was absolutely divine. Our waitress was incredible. The food was served simultaneously with our drinks. Furthermore, the portion were very filling. I would highly recommend a visit. The food was so good that I completely forgot to take pictures and just started eating as soon as it arrived to my table.

My dad complained the food was too oily, but other than that it was a good experience. The bathrooms are a bit bad though.

2nd time I've had a Jameson event here. This venue is popular and has Social Sundays... The staff and owner are very pleasant, the patrons who attend the Social Sunday's are PMB COOLEST CROWD. Atmosphere great. Food excellent, will eat here again Specials running on Social Sunday's are super cool. You guys rock

Great breakfast menu, with lots of vegetarian options and breakfast choices. Kind of industrial meets vintage vibe too

Absolutely loved and enjoyed being there.. went for graduation lunch and we enjoyed ourselves alot.. service was slow but all in all it was absolutely amazing

Passing thro PMB and stopped for lunch. Good atmosphere, food was generous and tasty. Live music. This 5 stars definitely go to the service. Waiters were attentive and so honest. We left a very expensive pair of sunglasses at the table and when we returned, they had it wrapped in tissue waiting. Thank you for this as you were so busy.

My absolute favorite lunch venue. The meals are always made sooo incredibly well. Even the simplest food on the menu is made with the finest, freshest, tastiest ingredients. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. I recently tried the mousaka here, and it was delicious. They have a lovely outdoor eating area, or for something a little more cosy, one can enjoy a meal inside the restaurant. I truely believe that this is the best lunch venue in Pietermartizburg.

Honestly, it is a really nice place. I enjoyed my food( portions are on the bigger side 😊 ) . The service could have been better. But if you're there to just chill...its a good place.

Good attitude of the staff. Respectful and helpful. Ambience of the place allows one to have a good chat without disturbance. Food is great and within a 5-minute wait. Will recommend to everyone.

Beautiful restaurant and lovely food. Found the waiters are professional at the table and offer good service but away from table can be seen on phones and doing "chores" where the customers can see. Overall a lovely restaurant and definitively returning

A cosy place with a beautiful rustic setting. Amazingly good food. The fireplace adds a nostalgic, comfy atmosphere.

Het gister oggend Essence toe gegaan vir ontbyt, was gou bedien....geen probleem nie....die tafels so opmekaar dat jy amper om die mense langs jou se skoot sit...die bestuurder hang oor die counter en maak sy tande skoon...en sy voorkoms, lyk hy alles behalwe n besuurder.......van die gebak (Appel-tert) staan oop, waar die ander met glas toe gemaak is, vliee draai om die gebak.....toe ek dit onder die aandag van die besuurder bring...toe was hy heel sakkastie.....""Yes mam, sorry mam""....moet regtig se toe julle nog in Victoria was,...was dit een van die oulikste plekke om te besoek....skoon vriendelike diens, ......sal nie sommer weer die nuwe plek besoek nie...

The service is excellent and very friendly. The food is great with a soothing music. On Tuesday 24 April 2018 my daughter's Graduation Dinner was a night will never be forgotten by my family and friends �.

We went for brunch at Essence today. What an absolute gem of a place! The service was brilliant and the food good:) Our waiter was absolutely great! Such a wonderful place and we even had to grab a few brownies on our way out!! Thanks Essence for making our bring a pleasant one :)
