So, we finally made it to Wolfgat after ages of wanting to go, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Forget the usual glitzy, over-the-top fine dining spots; this place is all about authentic, rustic vibes. The staff? Super friendly and so knowledgeable—like, they actually take the time to walk you through each dish so you get what’s going on. But the real star here is the chef. The guy is a humble genius! You can tell he lives and breathes this stuff; he talks about each dish with so much passion that you can’t help but get excited about what you’re about to eat. As for the food itself, oh man, it was next level. We had a 7-course meal and it was mostly seafood. Didn’t see that coming, but wow, was it delicious. Can’t remember all the fancy names, but who cares when the food tastes this good, right? Yeah, it’s a bit on the expensive side for us ordinary South Africans but trust me, it’s worth every single cent. This is one of those experiences that’s going to stick with me for a long time

I recently dined at Wolfgat, and I must say, the experience was exceptional. The team's passion for their craft was evident in every aspect of my visit. From the moment I walked in, I could sense their dedication to creating a unique dining experience centered around sustainable and locally sourced ingredients from the sea. The menu was a delightful exploration of flavors from the ocean, with each dish showcasing the team's creativity and expertise. The attention to detail in both presentation and taste was truly impressive. I particularly enjoyed how they incorporated foraged ingredients into the dishes, adding a fresh and unexpected twist to classic seafood offerings. What stood out even more than the delicious food was the staff's enthusiasm. They were not only knowledgeable about the dishes they were serving, but they also shared stories about the ingredients' origins and the importance of responsible sourcing. It was evident that they genuinely cared about providing an educational and satisfying dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was also noteworthy, with a relaxed yet refined atmosphere that complemented the culinary journey perfectly. The decor and design seemed to echo the restaurant's commitment to nature and sustainability. Overall, my visit to the sea foraged restaurant left a lasting impression. The passionate team's dedication to their craft, combined with the delectable dishes they prepared, made for a memorable and meaningful dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking not only exceptional seafood but also a dining adventure that celebrates the sea in a responsible and flavorful way.

Amazing restaurant for seafood lovers, the chef/owner came to our table with courses and explained what we are gonna indulge in. The server Emily was an absolute delight with her knowledge and service always asking if we need anything and to see if our drinks are still good. The location is absolutely breathtaking and my Fiance actually ventured down to the water to feel the Atlantic waters. If you are a foodie and want to experience one of the best restaurants in the world pop in, well actually book I had to book 4 months in advance to secure a spot and it was worth it. Thank you for the amazing experience and the food.

We booked four months ago to celebrate our anniversary. Wolfgat did not disappoint. We did opted not to do the wine pairing and Kobus told us that all the wines on the list are chosen specially beause they go with the dishes on the menu. The staff were knowledgeable about each dish and Kobus served a number of the dishes himself. The only negative I have is the coffee after the meal was served with ( possibly almond milk??) which would not have been our choice had we been given one.

Wolfgat is a unique experience not only in a culinary sense! The environment of this small exquisite place is a perfect frame for the exceptional food accompanied by wines chosen by the chef for an outstanding experience of your taste buds they will not forget for a long time. The 7 course menu with some little extras promotes local products, and the wines chosen to go with are following this example. So we enjoyed seafood, including abalone, fresh fish, salads and greens picked fresh from the cliffs beside the restaurant, and wines from the area. The atmosphere that the team around Kobus van der Merwe creates is relaxed, concentrated on the meal and the wellbeing of the guests. We were lucky to have fine warm weather and being placed on the terrace with a gorgeous view to the sunny beach. It was a dreamlike experience we are grateful for and enjoyed every moment.

The place where it is almost impossible to reserve a table. Why is that? ‘Cause only 20 people per lunch/dinner are served. We visited South Africa in May and accidentally found this place when I was planning our trip. Of course, 2 months ahead I was not able to book a table for dinner because they were fully booked but they promised if they have a cancellation they will let me know. I did not give it much of a chance but they kept me in their mind! They had cancellations so reached out to me on Friday about an opening for dinner the next day! We were in CT so we hired a driver last minute and went to Paternoster! The round trip took us 4 hours (CT-Paternoster-CT). Was it worth it? Absolutely! I have had the best fine dining experience in South Africa so far! I strongly suggest this place for food lovers. The menu is unique and changes monthly/seasonally. I would love to try other menu too. The chef loves to use fynboos and other african ingredients/plants in his recipes, and local, freshly caught fish and seafood. We choose the wine pairing option and I have to say it was a quite journey. Wines are perfectly matched with dishes but by themselves were quite interesting/surprising. And…he offered a wine produced from a Hungarian grape varietal, Hárslevelű. This was such a heart-warming experience ‘cause I am Hungarian ☺️ The service was professional, great, and kind. Some dishes and all of the wines were served by the Chef, who gave detailed information about each dish and wine pairing. We had a lovely time there and would love to go back and try another menu as well.

One of the most amazing dining experiences of my life so far. Some of the textures and flavours I’ve never had before but still enjoyed every bit. For me the cuisine while being natural and foraged daily along the paternoster coast, is just so honest, everything just tasted as it should, not over rich, yet still so complex but always honest flavours. I arrived early and got to enjoy the views at sunset while I dined into the night with some great wines to accompany the course. By any standards this is a well priced venue. Its small, intimate and serviced really well, for this attention to detail and time to prepare for limited guests that can be seated, makes it great value. Wolfgat has to be experienced as a culinary. adventure at least once, i though will be making my way back sometime soon.

This will go down as one of my most memorable culinary experiences ever. The simplicity, humbleness and attentiveness of the kitchen combined with the sophistication and flavours was sublime. The setting and ambience puts Wolfgat above many 5* city establishments. Well worth the detour!

An easy 90 mins trip away from Cape Town, Wolfgat is more than worth a visit, if you are lucky to get a table. Excellent food inspired by the sea, great wine pairing and friendly service in a rekaxed environment with great views over the beach. Well done!

Rated as one of the best restaurants in the world. We struggled to get a booking for a long time, but finally got lucky. The food experience was good. There were many different taste sensations with local produce from the West Coast. We had an absolute amazing day with blue skies and no wind that contributed to the overall experience. It is an food experience outing and not a everyday restaurant. Overall I would recommend it to fine dining lovers for a different experience.

A pleasant experience, different from most South African restaurants. The food was something special in an lovely location with a great view of the sea. The restaurant is small and cozy. The service was kind and professional... and great music selection too! Be prepared because it will takes around 2,5 hours to through all the Chef creations!

Unconventional ingredients, unique combinations and spectacular results. The chef is a genius. His knowledge and use of the regional coastal botanicals is just amazing. The views at lunch (had dinner here twice before) on a sunny day are just epic. Seamless service, calm staff and an overall enjoyable afternoon.

Decided to visit Wolfgat after seeing it make the top list of restaurants in South Africa. The service was absolutely amazing, so was the ambience and restaurant. The menu is heavily focused on sea food which is sourced locally and prepared perfectly. While Wolfgat hit the spot on many levels, I missee a bit of finesse on some of the dishes which were overly robust and tough to chew. But all in all, a great experience that I'd recommend.

It is a rare thing to experience a fusion of flavours and textures that you have never encountered before. Wolfgat is a unique sensory adventure where every bite feels like some long lost, yet deeply cherished, memory. Meticulously prepared, beautifully presented, and served with the easy-going comfort of a loving family dinner, Wolfgat and its incomparable staff exceeds its reputation.

I've had the privilege of dining in many avant-garde restaurants around the world... What I really enjoyed here was the seeming simplicity of the venue, making you focus on the food.... And since you come here for the food, here's my two cents on it: 1. Don't come here wanting to love each dish individually. I personally loved 6 out of the 7 dishes and appreciated the 7th for what it was trying to do (see next point) 2. For me (and each review is obviously a biased experience) the experience of this restaurant is akin to that of an innovation hub. Not each innovation works perfectly, but each innovation opens your eyes to the possibilities that mixing different ingredients can have. I love the experimental nature of the dishes. Each dish made me think differently about what is around is and how different combinations create new flavours, textures and sensory adventures. With this performance metric in mind the visit was a resounding success and can really recommend it. 3. The presentation and service we faultless but again I didn't come for this. I don't drink so can't comment on the alcohol but my wife says she absolutely loved the two wines she tried which she hasn't heard of before. 4. You don't come here to 'eat'. You come here to experience dishes hence the portions are perfect to have a good mouthful but this isn't a big plate of spaghetti that will make you feel full. This is about filling your mind. 5. Come with friends and make an evening or lunch experience out of it. This is as much about your pleasure of tasting as about the pleasure of exchanging different views. 6. There is limited seating (we had 12 diners) so it doesn't feel crowded . We didn't really chat to the waiters as more informed about the dishes. Am sure we could have chatted with them and they were ultra friendly but we were here for us and the food this time. Overall we absolutely loved it. Expect to pay a tip and drinks above the cost of the experience, but that's not a critique, just a reminder if you are saving for the experience. PS... The view is awesome too.
