Review Blacksmith's Kitchen - Paarl

Emily Erasmus
Stunning restaurant! Had an amazing lunch - quality food and GREAT portions (we couldn't finish our food). Beautiful dining experience sitting between the vineyard, with a 180° view overlooking Paarl. DEFINITELY returning to try everything!

We went to Blacksmiths on a very chilled spring day and what a great experience! Very well priced and excellent selection of wines. Their foccacia has a beautifully thin crust and perfect amount of toppings fora starter. For mains I had the beef burger with mushroom sauce on the side, delicious. The husband had the ribs which was a very generous portion, big enough to share.
Johan Grobler
Stunning views, warm atmosphere with good food which are reasonably priced. My favorites was a bottomless glass of Ice tea and/or Lemonade and a very juicy burger with an excellent meat patty. Wil definitely visit them again.

What a beautiful place. We just stopped in for a coffee and we were blown away. The service was great and the venue spotless. To sit on the veranda was just so peaceful and magical. Loved it and will go back to taste the wine.

We celebrated my birthday at Blacksmith's Kitchen on Sunday, April 30, and what a lovely experience it was. I was flying back to Johannesburg that afternoon so we arrived at 10:45 am which is 15 minutes before the restaurant opens. However, the wait staff welcomed us in a very cordial manner despite the inconvenience, which was surprising. (In my experience, arriving before opening time results in being chased away by disgruntled staff.) This impressed me. The restaurant is set in tranquil surroundings above vineyards which I found instantly relaxing. We had not booked a table and all of those that seemed to be in prime spots were reserved. This was not a problem, however, as all of the tables provide the same exquisite view of the mountains of Paarl. We sat under a massive and ancient tree (Oak, if I remember correctly) and time seemed to stand still for a bit. I enjoyed a glass of wine and we ordered falafel to start. The dish was fairly good but the caprese pizza that followed was excellent. I enjoyed being seated at a large wooden table in magnificent surroundings. Blacksmith's Kitchen is a very special venue which proved to offer really good value for money that even ordinary South Africans can enjoy; this is unusual. The restaurant staff were very kind, attentive and efficient. I hope to visit again soon.

Knowing Paarl quite well, I was amazed that I hadn't heard of the Blacksmith Kitchen before. This is definitely a hidden gem! Located in Northern Paarl on the Pearl Mountain Wines wine estate, you have amazing views of the valley and town below. The restaurants' interior isn't very large, however they do have a covered outside seating area which also takes advantage of the views. I decided to go for the Lamb Shank and my wife went with the Chicken Parmesan with Risotto, and both of us really enjoyed the food. One recommendation I can give them is to expand their wine list slightly to include more of the local wines as well as craft beers, but overall we had a great time.

Great views of the mountains and surrounding vineyards. Lekker pizzas and wine.

Absolute hidden Gem. Waited a bit long(hour) for our meals to arrive but overall, everything Spot-on. Pork Ribs prepped to perfection. Kids had Pizzas and wife had Fish/calamari. Our waitron Tamryn was exceptional. Highly recommended and definitely will return soon.

We were warmly welcomed as soon as we got there. The waitrons had broad smiles and friendly ways about them all. I had the biltong and fig pizza. What an amazing taste combination. Loved it. My partner was over the moon about her chicken burger and milkshake. We decided that we will certainly be back again.

A beautiful setting with a beautiful view if you sit outside, but also a lovely open interior seating area. Great food and good service.

We had our end of year lunch at Blacksmith's Kitchen. The ambiance was lovely and so were the waiters. The food was particularly delicious. I had T-bone steak which was made to perfection with chips and a fresh salad. The service was quick and courteous. Although on the day it was particularly windy, it did not in any way take away from this lovely experience.

Enjoyable food with limited alcoholic been beverage selection. Gorgeous views sitting outside looking out toward Bain's Kloof Pass. Tranquil with pleasant service!
Christa Strydom
Lovely atmosphere with loads of little elegant touches & an excellent wine selection. We were blown away by the food, best salmon dish I've ever had. They have a fairly small menu but offer a variety of seasonal specials that vary regularly & isn't on their standard menu. All their dishes were beautifully prepared & presented. At around R250 per person for mains, wine, desserts & coffees, it was money well spent 😬

Thanks to the manager, marketing manager and staff at Blacksmith's Kitchen for making our 18th anniversary such a memorable and special one! You were all so attentive with a wealth of knowledge about your wines and wine making - I now know a lot more - super cool! The Chenin and the Merlot cocktails (and even the Rose cocktail I was treated to!) were awesome. Lunch was just divine and omw that cheesecake of yours!! We will most certainly be back for more. <3

Complimentary wine tasting and delicious olives to nibble while feasting our eyes on the view. Warm welcome, great lamb burgers from their blackboard specials and yummy wine. And to finish some of the best coffee we've tasted!! Looking forward to the next visit!!

Best wood fired pizza in the Western Cape. Awe inspiring views. Supreme tranquility and breath taking natural beauty amongst the vines!

The perfect romantic date night spot, the view from the restaurant is simply breathtaking overlooking the entire City of Paarl with its many vineyards and mountains. At night you get to see all the city lights making it such a romantic place to take that someone special. The food and wine are clearly made with loads of heart and passion and the proof is in the delicious flavours on the plate which compliment each other so well. One dish that stood out for me was the starter which was the Lamb Basket, simply marvellous!
Kin De Kock
I was taken aback by the warm atmosphere and service we received at Blacksmith's Kitchen! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and it really contributed a lot to our overall experience and impression. We had the lamb burger and a pizza- while the pizza was just okay, the burger was fantastic. The flavours worked very well together and the burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Every bite was succulent.
Danny Calitz
Very nice setting!! Do sit outside (in summer😊) and look at Paarl through the vineyards.... nice food and services... a little gem waiting to be experienced...
Merwe Van Niekerk
This is the place to be!! The setting (the view), the food, the wine, the staff... I've been here quite a few times and every single time I leave feeling loads better about myself 😄 if you do visit, treat yourself to the mushrooms and truffle oil risotto. The flavor and texture combination is out of this world. Their pizzas are something special and always a sure winner. The antipasto platter is such a great combination of flavors and textures. Come to think of it, anything you order will most possibly be fantastic!!

Ok, so we drove all the way here and landed up with Pizza that we probably could have purchased around the corner. But then again, you'd be hard pressed to find a pizza with SUCH a thin base and with such excellent quality toppings. All of us thought they were delicious and every crumb was eaten. Service was friendly and efficient, and having a fire inside in winter was a bonus.

Celebrated fathers day at blacksmith. Party of 14.had a great time.staff very friendly and helpful. Food was great from the pizza to the lamb shank.wine well priced.view fantastic. Will definitely be back.also did wine tasting and good time had by all.

Wow! I had the lamb shank and it was phenomenal! Serious attention paid to the plating of the dishes which is an extra. The food and wine here is wonderful. The view isn't too bad either :)

Great farm restaurant!

Covered by big trees with a fantastic view of Paarl, the restaurant really is perfectly positioned. The menu caters to all tastes and covers most food types. Fresh mussels were the real highlight.

The wine list, obviously carries their own selection but incorporates a few outside labels too. The chenin was a fantastic accompaniment to our lunch.
Jani Hattingh
Delicious food and wine and a view to die for! What a wonderful evening and impeccable service. Will definitely go back for another occasion

After hearing great reviews from other Zomato foodies, we decided to take a drive out to Pearl Mountain and have lunch at Blacksmiths kitchen. We were warmly welcomed by the manager on duty and taken to a quaint table under the trees. Our waiter was friendly yet subdued, and brought olives to taste while we placed our order. To eat, I ordered the Farmyard pizza, and Dario chose the 300g rump(with mushroom sauce) with roast vegetables and chips. The pizza was light, but I feel it lacked basic seasoning. The rump was a good portion size and the accompanying veg was fresh and well prepared. We opted to share the Seasonal fruit pavlova, and for both of us,agreed it was the best course. Three meringues, topped with vanilla cream and fresh berries. Overall, I felt that the wait between ordering and receiving your food is a while, and in the interim could have brought baked bread instead, as many people don't eat olives. The estate is beautiful and I appreciate the local fresh produce available, but I feel slightly underwhelmed by the food and value for money. Dario De Wet

Can't believe I never wrote up my review of Blacksmith's Kitchen! I went as a part of a Zomato meet-up and thought it was fantastic. I can still remember the lamb shank and how delicious it was! The chocolate dessert was also something special. Other patrons around us were eating delicious-looki g pizza and the views over Paarl were amazing. Well worth the visit if you're in the area or feel like an outing to Paarl
LuluFromJozi
Beautiful view and we had stunning weather, the food was alright and staff chilled and well trained. Try the little shop at the back. But beware: something dodgy happened with our bill. They added 2 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc. We didn't ordered it at all. So check your bills.

I wanted to get more information about this restaurant and perhaps make a booking. Sadly no one answers to the phone during open hours or answers emails.

We had fun exploring Pearl Mountain Wine Estate in Paarl recently and enjoyed a superb wine and cheese tasting. (You can read about it here). But there is definitely more to the estate than their superb wines and their awesome views… they offer a really good menu at their restaurant, Blacksmith’s Kitchen.

Following suit with the incredible wines produced at Pearl Mountain, Blacksmiths Kitchen is nothing short of paradise. Giant oak trees provide shade over the outdoor tables that overlook the vineyards. It may have just been our luck on the day but there was a very peaceful ambience with only the...

Great venue, where the locals hang out.
The food is honest and well played, the tastes are fantastic.

What makes this place special is the view, that truly is a"wow"!!
Chantelle Lamusse
They have their own vegetable garden hosting a range of unique ingredients which they actively use in their dishes.

We were then accompanied to try out the new summer platter for 2 valued at just R192 for 2 coming in at great value for money. It comes with 2 lamb kofta, butternut hummus(extremely delicious) olive tapenade, salmon fish cakes, spinach and feta samoosas, bread sticks wrapped in Parma ham to mention a few. We enjoyed another pairing with this platter consisting of the Chenin, Rose and Chardonnay. This platter is extremely well priced and accompanied by the views is nothing short of a great experience and memory with your loved one.

On to the mains I was spoilt with this perfectly cooked salmon on a bed of hollandaise sauce with accompanied by strips of broccoli on the side, and tempura avo on top. The detail of the plating is of a fine dining experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste, the hospitality and the rich history this venue and wine farm provides. I cannot wait to come try out more of the menu soon...

Thank you to the staff at Blacksmith's Kitchen fantastic service and amazing food.
Zomato thank you to a awesome first event for 2017.
I recently fount this gem based on Zomato's top rated restaurants. We got there and had the best table in the restaurant. The entire restaurant has the most beautiful view but we had a corner table in the shade with a full view of Paarl. We started with the Antipasto Board which was really good. We shared it between 6 people which was a bit thinly stretched. The board could feed three people comfortably as a sharing plate. For mains I had the harvest Pizza which had bacon, green figs, Gorgonzola and nuts. The pizza base was perfect but the pizza itself was a bit sweet (way too many figs) and had very little Gorgonzola cheese. We also had the farmyard which was delicious as well as the chicken supreme. I was a little nervous about the chicken supreme as some reviews mentioned it was a bit dry, this was not the case. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Overall the experience was great, the food was lovely and the views are spectacular. I would definitely recommend Blacksmiths as a must go to!

This place is amazing! The restaurant has such character and awesome views! We hadn't made a booking and so we were seated inside but it was a great escape
from the outside heat. The food was to die for! I ordered two small plates namely the starter mussels and the melanzane. The mussels had an unusual but delicious sauce with a bit of spice and it was a very generous portion. The melanzane was also really tasty! My brother had the rump which he said was amazing! I will definitely be coming back to try out some of the other dishes on the menu. Highly recommend. Would suggest booking for an outside table in the busy season.

Food 4.0/5. Setting 4.5/5. Service 3.5/5. Value for Money 4.0/5.

Pros: Great views of the Pearl Mountain vineyards and Paarl cityscape. Had the baked camembert wrapped in phyllo pastry with tomato jam and melba toast and it was a flavourful treat to the palate.

Cons: Service was somewhat sluggish and it can get quite windy, but a great experience overall.

27 December 2016

Stop reading this review and go and experience Blacksmith's Kitchen for yourself...

If you're still reading (and you shouldn't be), I'd strongly recommend a visit in the evening. The view is breathtaking - either looking over Paarl or up into the mountain. Their pizza's are excellent - especially if you enjoy a thin base. I've also heard very good things about their cheesecake. The pricing is reasonable and the service is good. I'm heading back there very soon!

During a tour of the mother city's gin bars and distilleries, we found ourselves admiring the scenic beauty of Paarl. We discovered, much to our nerdy delight, that the town was playing host to a star gazing picnic. Alas, we were not prepared and had not packed a basket.

Luckily, Blacksmith's came to the rescue, packing us a take away package filled with lamb koftas, spring rolls, fried halloumi, the most delicious homemade olive tapenade and much more. The chef even went through the effort to garnish and artfully arrange everything.

Better than the food was the service - the staff were more than happy to accommodate our unusual request as well as to provide us with olives and spring water whilst we waited.

I would happily journey out to Paarl again to visit this establishment.

Was the highest rated Restuarant and we were very close, so we decided to try it, were not disappointed - great view, atmosphere and food! Will definitely go again when back in the area.

Beautiful setting, really delicious food, awesome service - what more can you ask for in a restaurant? Will definitely be back and will be recommending this awesome spot to anyone looking for a place to eat in Paarl! Also... buy some of the olives, they are incredible!

My girlfriend took me with to the Zomato meetup here and again, I had no idea what Blacksmith's Kitchen was, but the views alone won me over. They are breathtaking.

There was no shortage of good wine at Blacksmith's Kitchen and all wines are made right here at Pearl Mountain by the family. We met the 5th generation owner and he told us all about how they grow their own vegetables there and everything is still original buildings.

We had a baked camembert that was delicious with the rosé and tomato jam; the main venison shank was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, pairing really well with the sweet potato purée and veggies. The dessert was a little too much for me but only because I'm not a big fan of chocolate, however the chocolate brownie with ice cream and chocolate creme brûlée was a firm hit, and went well with the warm and spicy Glühwein.

I loved the experience and definitely plan on visiting this family run Pearl Mountain again.

Enough said about this place... Pizza, wine, breath taking views and serenity! We went on a Sunday morning for a wine tasting followed by lunch. We started off with some wine. I ordered the Three Oaks Cab Sauv for the table which is phenomenal! We then ordered a round of pizzas: The Shroom, Three Little Pigs and the Farmyard... My oh my! Yum! There was no space for dessert but theres always a next time... Visit them! And quickly!

Quick update:

It was my birthday today and my hubby decided to treat me to an afternoon of wine, great views and awesome food! I had the seafood linguine was was totally devine! This was not it... I decided that my tummy also craves some awesome dessert and I decided on the creme brulee and chocolate brownie and ice cream. All in all: Great Wine, Blessed with views and Spoilt with tummy yumminess food!

I believe that Blacksmith's Kitchen as one of the most amazing panoramic views of Paarl. The place is so peaceful. The Resturant is located at the northern part of Paarl where the original owner was an actual Blacksmith back in the 1700s. Now the farm is a family owned farm going back several generations.

I must admit, I do enjoy these Zomato meetups, especially this group of fantastic foodies really made it fantastic.

We arrived to lovely resturant showing the off the history of the place. What's nice is during warmer days you can sit outside and enjoy the lovely view of Northern Paarl (Did I mention that before?)

What was an interesting point of note was the farm had their own vegetable garden providing fantastic veggies to the resturant.

We were treated to a lovely 3 course meal with wine pairing. Each course can be found on their current menu.

We were treated to a glass of Moreson MCC pink, which is not too dry but a great drop.

We started off with a Baked Camembert, wrapped up in phyllo pastry with tomato jam and melba toasts. This sounds bit fancy but was very nice. This was accompanied with an off dry 2016 Rose named affectionately after the owners father "The Stubborn Man"

For mains a soft and tender Venison shank with sweet potato purée, veggies and red wine and rosemary jus. The meat was fall of the bone and amazing. I do love a good shank. This was paired with 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon named Retief. A fantastic wine, smooth and very drinkable at any time.

We completed with a Chocolate Duo dessert of a chocolate brownie, chocolate creme brûlée and ice cream, paired with 2014 Retief Shiraz Gluhwein. Now for those who don't know what Gluhwein is, it's warmed up wine with spices. Perfect for a winter's day. Now the dessert is always a good finish to a meal as chocolate always wins.

The menu has some other winners such as their pizzas and a pork belly that has my mouth watering.

The service is very good, on point and friendly. Would I come back or should you visit this establishment? Yes, yes you should. This place is worth the visit.

The Blacksmith’s Kitchen is a tranquil, comfortable restaurant, with glorious panoramic views of the Paarl valley and housed in a 1747 built cottage on the Pearl Mountain Wine Estate. The estate and restaurant is owned and operated by the resident Retief family, and has been since 1873.

The restaurant proffers a Mediterranean menu as well as local wines to perfectly pair with the mouth-watering dishes. Portions are generous and kiddies are catered for too. Veggies served are grown in the vegetable garden right next to the restaurant.
There is a fabulous wine tasting room with a superb range of wines as well as olive oil and pottery for sale.
The red wines are named after the area in which they grow. Three Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon; Above the Mist Merlot and Wagon Trail Shiraz.

Our well balanced menu consisted of a creamy baked camembert in phyllo parcel topped with gooey delicious tomato jam and melba toast. This was perfectly partnered by the award winning Rose.

The entree was a slow roasted venison shank with heirloom veggies and Ouma's creamy sweet potato puree. Utterly marshmallowy tender & flavoursome. This was accompanied by the Three Oaks Cabernet sauvignon.

Dessert was a trio of chocolate creme brulee, chocolate brownie (light & pillowy with deep dark richness) and vanilla ice cream. Its companion was a hot & spicy Ghluwein. We took our coffees outside under the old oak tree and soaked up the fresh breeze while luxuriating in the magnificent views.

Thank you to our hospitable hosts & Zomato for a brilliant event!

Striking views overlooking Paarl creating a beautiful backdrop, set high on the mountain slopes is where you will find Pearl Mountain and is home to a restaurant called Blacksmith's Kitchen. A magnificent place to spend as an afternoon delight with a group of Zomato foodies.

The restaurant has a rustic feel steeped in history and was originally a blacksmith's home. A place with a mixture of cosy, delicious food and a beautiful view to add to the charm. The farm produces two ranges of wine under the Pearl Mountain label named Stubborn Man and Retief.

We were treated to a sumptuous three course meal which was perfectly paired with the farm's range of wines. We started off with the Stubborn Man Rosé 2016 - delicious with a strawberry aftertaste on the palate. This complimented the creamy Baked Camembert wrapped in crunchy phyllo pastry served with a gorgeous tomato jam and a crispy melba toast for texture to wrap up all the beautiful flavours.

The showpiece of the day was a tender, slow-cooked, fall-of-the-bone Venison Shank with a red wine and rosemary jus to compliment the venison. Sautéed veggies and a delicious, silky sweet potato puree accompanied the dish. This was paired with a well-balanced Retief Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 to allow the complex flavours of the dish to shine.

Dessert was a duo chocolate treat that's sure to please any chocoholic like me! Think indulgent, creamy Chocolate Crème Brûlée and a rich, decadent Chocolate Brownie - both served with vanilla ice cream to balance-out the richness of
the chocolate. Deliciously paired with a warm Retief Shiraz Glühwein 2014 to end off a satisfying meal.

It was a great pleasure to have met the owner, Zed, who is so passionate about the food, the wine and best of all the flower garden and veggie patch. Will definitely be back for a second dose of that delicious Venison Shank!!

Always a privilege to be invited to a Zomato meetup and acquaint oneself with old and new foodies. This meetup was no exception and the long drive out to the Paarl winelands filled one with excitement. Blacksmith's Kitchen is situated on a gorgeous farm with breathtaking vistas and an owner who is extremely passionate about wine, food, the organic veg garden and his friendly staff.

Enough of the background- we were there for the food and wine after all😊. Essentially a three-course meal was on offer that was thoughtfully paired with the estate's wines. Starter was a baked camembert wrapped in phyllo pastry with tomato jam and melba toast. The starter was rich and luxurious, offset by the sweet tomato jam and paired beautifully with their Stubborn Man rose. Then onto the mains which was slow-roasted venison shank, sweet potato puree, root veg and a silky red wine jus. Meat was tender which you could eat with a spoon and the puree was insanely delicious. The cabernet sauvignon went down a treat with the hearty mains. Dessert was my favourite- chocolate heaven it was, creme brule, brownie and vanilla ice cream...what a match. Interestingly paired with a glass of gluhwein which took one back to a cold winter's day. Impeccable service rounded off an enjoyable afternoon. The restaurant is extremely popular and I couldn't help noticing the number of oven-baked pizzas that kept flying out the kitchen. A special place this and comes highly recommended.
- with JotterJo Vincent Van Tonder Glen Hunt Sharese Hunt Kristi Bronwyn Coltman Catherine Jess Styles

Sadly I don't ever really head out Paarl way, which is a real shame because I'm missing out on amazing places like these! The venue is just stunning, with a gorgeous outdoor area set under the oak trees with views of the vineyards and mountains in the distance. Even the view from inside is amazing but do opt for a table outside of the weather permits, you won't regret it!

Moving onto the good stuff... the food. The food is paired amazingly well. My camembert starter was perfectly balanced with the creamy cheese, sweet tomato jam and freshness of ginger in the jam. It was quite heavenly to be exact. This was paired with a lovely Stubborn Man Rose.

The venison shank was served with a delicious sweet potato puree, which complimented the game very well. This is a perfect winter dish, I can just imagine having a fire lit in the background and enjoying it with a nice bottle of red. The meat itself was very tender and fell off the bone. It was a very large portion though, so do plan to arrive hungry!

Dessert was also quite a large portion. Blacksmiths is definitely not shy with their portion sizes, so I find it hard to believe anyone can leave hungry. Having said that.. no matter how full I was or how sick I felt after so much chocolate, I was definitely not going to leave any of the chocolate duo behind. The brownie was soooo good but the chocolate creme brule was so light that it was my favourite. You could technically share this but I don't think you'd want to!

Our waiter, Malibongwe was great, he was super friendly and definitely on top of keeping those wine glasses full!

Also be sure to check out the impressive vegetable garden, where a lot of the veg served in the restaurant is grown!

My first experience here and I looooved it. I was treated to a lazy weekend lunch here and it definitely showcased Paarl well, those views!
The menu is super, and you're guaranteed to find something you love.
The wines on offer vary from their own blends and cultivars, to others from the area and further.
We had a wine paired to each course, and the Stubborn Man Rose was lovely, perfect for a summer's day. It was paired with camembert cheese, tomato jam and toast, so yummy! That wad followed by version shank, what a hunk of meat! Very tender and the sweet potato puree was my favourite.
The dessert was served to us in a trio, the brownie could rival the best, and the chocolate creme brulee was so light.
This place is quirky and lovely. Can't wait to return. Start serving brekkie, and I'd even be there tomorrow ;)

Had a fantastic early lunch today at Blacksmith Kitchen. The restaurant had a very nice old school bistro type feel to it which brought home some great childhood memories. We were delighted with an amazing bowl of home made olives from the farm. I ordered a Three Pig Pizza which was a bit thin but quite tasty. I feel that the prices are a bit too high for the quantity of food but it was quite juicy. The service was also quite superb. Thanks for a splendid day.

Delicious, amazing, warm, cozy and friendly... Absolutely perfect really!!! Will come again in a hurry!!! Variety office at table, and everything was delicious. View, fireplace, everything you want in one place.

On recommendation by my beautiful friend Margaret Clack we decided to meet for a catch-up lunch at this restaurant. A lovely view and stunning restaurant hidden in Paarl. We were lucky to have the most perfect weather to sit outside and take in the incredible view. The staff is very friendly and the food was beautifully presented. My fillet was a bit overdone-but needless to say still delicious with port jus, shitake mushrooms and al dente vegetables. Will definitely be back soon.

We visited Blacksmith Kitchen for a gourmet feast!
We drank fantastic wine with The Stubborn man being a particular favourite!

The view is unbeatable and I would highly recommend grabbing a table outside this summer with one of their great pizzas!

We started with a smoked chicken, avo and camembert pizza wrap which was very tasty. We then had a fresh citrus and strawberry salad which was lovely but sadly was paired with a very heavy sweet yoghurt dressing.

My favourite course was the house smoked Franschhoek salmon trout with sweetcon fritters. The smoked trout was amazing and went perfectly with the sweetcorn fritters and creme fraiche! This was the stand out dish!

Main course was a slow cooked springbok shank with a sweet potato puree which was decadent and rich but probably better suited for a winters afternoon and not the gorgeous sunny day we were graced with! The vegetarian option of mushrooms and truffle oil risotto was superb and I would order that again!!

We finished with a dainty little chocolate tart and even more wine! Perfect ending to a fantastic lunch!

This restaurant is situated on one of the most beautiful wine farms I've been to! Stuck away in Paarl, Pearl Mountain has stunning views of expansive mountain ranges and luscious green vineyards! It definitely helps that we were there on one of the most perfectly sunny days!

We were seated outside under a big shady tree and the wine was constantly flowing. Our set menu was paired beautifully with a selection of their wines! The house-smoked salmon on sweet corn fritters was my favourite dish! So tasty and the perfect size! The slow-cooked springbok shank was so juicy and falling off the bone and the sweet potato puree cut through the rich red wine and berry jus.

There wasn't much I could fault here and I can't wait to come back and try one of their delicious looking pizzas!

If you're looking for a location with beautiful views, hearty food and gorgeous surrounds them look no further than Blacksmith's Kitchen.
Invited as part of a zomato team, I will disclaim that I can't comment on all of their menu but I know I have to be back for their pizzas.
What I did eat was yummy and the staff were amazing - they never once forgot your order and made special allowances for gluten-free, vegetarian and pregnancy.
A really neat spot for beers and for large groups

If you're searching for delicious food, great wine, and a view that is hard to beat.. Look no further! We visited the Blacksmiths kitchen on the Pearl Mountain Estate for a zomato meetup and it was by far my favourite!

We were treated to an amazing 5 course tasting menu, each paired beautifully with a wine, beer or coffee and I can easily say the food was prepared to perfection! The smoked salmon trout was fresh and so tasty, and that springbok shank was incredible.. It literally fell off the bone! I loved that they're willing to try new things and this was evident in their pizza rolls (with an apple purée) and their summer citrus salad. So yummy!

To end off, we had a delicious chocolate tart and vanilla bean homemade ice cream.. Wow!

A huge thank you to Z and the team.. It really was such a treat of a day and I'll be back very soon.. This was my very first visit at Blacksmith's Kitchen, situated on the Retief family wine estate. I left the restaurant very surprised and satisfied, after a wonderful four course tasting menu. With such stunning views overlooking Paarl and Boland mountains one can't go wrong on any given day. They have a large outdoor seating area, all shaded. And no matter where you sit, you will be able to enyou the stunning views this restaurant has to offer.

We were given various samples to taste of their premium wines, and my favourite was their Retief wooded Chardonnay. Fantastic wine! Our two waiters (Remoune & Taryn) were very friendly and helpful throughout the day.
I reckon in a few months time, this place will be the talk of the town. I will certainly be back to enjoy their thin crust pizzas while sipping away slowly on their outstanding wines.
Please enjoy the images I took of the food we were served. I also included a pic of our friendly waiters.

Update January 2017 - I revisited this restaurant. Still on top of their game. I sampled some new summer menu items. One of the best Salmon dishes I had in a long time and a very well made Risotto was part of the lunch. Simply fantastic. We also enjoyed their Antipasto Platter. Those Koftas are to die for! I added more images as well.

Such a beautiful little hidden gem found nestled between vineyards - we had such a lovely day here, accompanied with beautiful wine and delicious food. Would recommend this place to be visited on a summers day to enjoy the view.

I absolutely loved the whole experience of being at Blacksmiths Kitchen. It's the type of venue you can spend hours drinking and eating, and then eating some more.

You sit under the beautiful trees overlooking the Paarl mountains and vineyards right in front of you.

The food is really good, and I love that they serve simple and delicious pizza with good wine. It's sometime all you need with good friends. The smoked salmon on corn fritters was also such a highlight for me!

I love that they are exploring with flavours and their plating is gorgeous, they take the time to make it look good.

I highly recommend this restaurant for an awesome Saturday / Sunday in the Winelands.

The new kid on the block and you will not be dissapointed. One of the best settings up on the mountainside with beautiful views of the Paarl valley. Lovely atmosphere albeit a little laidback, but that only adds to the charm. Service is warm and friendly and ever so efficient. Perfect menu with something for everyone, whether you're starving or just need that perfect little inbetweener. Food quality and preparation is af very high standard. Make sure to book well in advance as the secret is out - this is the place to be or at least the place to be seen
From my blog:
The setting with the tables under the big oak tree was a fabulous way to start our holiday.
Loved the olives they put on the table when we got there as an appetiser. Of course I had to try out their wine too… which I bought from the wine shop before we left.
The menu was great, and although the salads and cheese board looked like a great decision, we all chose pizzas to share. The one in the photo is the most boring one, the margherita, but Lance had an awesome veggie pizza with artichokes and camembert cheese… I had a few pieces of that one, it was delish.

Amazing place, amazing food, amazing service, reasonably priced. I had the rump with tempura vegetables and fries and my partner the seafood linguine...heaven on a plate. Will definitely recommend to anyone.

The bast thing about this restaurant is the setting. Service was shocking, manager couldn't be bothered to check if things are ok, food not great. Completely overpriced.

Love this place!!!! Fresh, fun vibe. Awesome, friendly staff and food to die for. The springbok shank is worth a try as are the pizzas. Oh and the risotto balls are yum.
