A bistro type restaurant that is a local favorite. Been here for years. Good food. Good portions. Good menu. Good value for money. Good area. A nice place to go to.
I had read many of the rave reviews of Moltenos and so we decided we had to go and tried to book for a Friday evening. It is a strange process. You phone and have to leave a message nominating one of their pre determined times. Then you have to wait. If you hear nothing then you have been successful. If you get a call it means you have been unsuccessful.
They are obviously very busy and so we were treated with military style efficiency. We felt under time pressure from the moment we arrived a few minutes before our 6pm reservation. I felt this pressure throughout. The service was quick and efficient, the food was delicious, but never relaxed. We never felt comfortable.
There were many regulars who were treated warmly but as it was our first time, despite being locals, I felt we were treated as passing trade. Maybe we need to try again on a quieter night but I would not rush back on a Friday.
We admired the vibe for a while driving by before finally making a visit during our 2 month visit in Onrus.
And then we went twice in one week and wish we'd visited sooner!
Pizza was served hot and fresh, delicious with a thin crust.
Pasta was hearty and a large enough portion to share.
PERFECT to warm the winter heart!
1 star less as the first time we were served by a wonderful woman with a warm inviting smile.
Our second visit our waitress wasn't pleasant or welcoming at all and almost felt hostile. Meal was still delicious though :)

This is a vibey, hidden spot within Onrus, just off the main road. Their seafood is fresh, of the best quality and cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a relaxed and homey atmosphere, you’ve found it. Frequented by retired locals, one feels instantly welcome and at ease.

I would drive 1 and a half hours from Cape Town just for dinner here. Everything we ordered was perfect. The sole was succulent and beautiful, fresh and flavourful. The pork belly melted in one’s mouth and is really the best I’ve ever had. They even managed to make a relatively simply chicken liver linguine dish taste like it was something extraordinary. Thanks for a wonderful evening and food made with so much love. I can’t wait to visit again.

Great food, homely vibe and a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy an evening. Food was expectly prepared and staff were friendly and helpful. Prices are a bit above average but the quality speaks for itself.
I want to tell the whole world about this place! My husband and I could not believe the unbelievable meals we were treated to at Molteno’s last night! We drove 45 minutes in the pitch dark to get there and I am thrilled to say it was absolutely worth it. We will most definitely be back! The lamb shank and pork belly were SO delicious. Gordon felt like an Uncle we hadn’t seen in a long time who just wanted to feed us until we could barely move. We felt welcome and comfortable at all times. I highly recommend everyone to try this unassuming gem in Onrus River, Hermanus.
Lovely atmosphere,, plenty of good food great staff. Stayed in Hermanus for three weeks, we have eaten there five times.

Always a good experience! Food is excellent! Well priced too. Cordon Blue for her, chicken schnitzel for me, tomato soup to die for as a starter, and Camembert cheese dessert for her afterwards. Absolutely our go-to restaurant here in Onrus
We enjoyed a family dinner at Moltenos, and what a treat it was!!!! Pork belly, chicken cordon bleu, fettuccine Carbonara - all dishes were excellent!!!! Waitresses and management are exceptional!!
