I've really enjoyed my experiences at Blue Marlon. The sushi is really good value for money with a fairly quick waiting time. If you have an appetite for sushi this is definitely the place to go.
I have ordered from here a few times and have not been disappointed. The sushi is good and the prices are affordable. The pieces are also a good size and the deep fried prawn is very tasty.
Probably the best sushi I have ever had, generous cuts of sashimi and the fish is fresh and delicious. I am not sure about the in restaurant experience as I have never been, but I would recommend this sushi to anyone who thinks they have had good sushi! Wait till you try this 😭❤️
My favourite for sushi on Mr Delivery. Delicious dim sum and fresh sushi. Looking forward to visiting the actual restaurant as well. Definitely recommend.
Service was ok, could have been better. The food was tasty and the sushi was really good. The menu has a wide variety of meals and sushi and it is super affordable! Definitely a plus. Definitely would go back for more 😊
If you're looking for a sushi fix on a student budget then this place is perfect. They have so many options to choose from. Their sushi is fresh and pretty good. I will keep going back!
Blue Marlin is a bit strange because the restaurant itself is a bit chaotic with tables being very close together and the aroma in the place is a bit odd. The staff are all very clued up only so much and the friendliness is somewhat off and on. They also have a bit of a stinginess with napkins, ice and anything you would want more of that's suppose to be free but they love ending off you meal with loads of these weird sweets.
However they are very reasonably priced, their springrolls are huge and very good and they have a pretty cool selection of drinks. The sushi is fresh, affordable and made exactly the same every time...pretty and good.
Sushi is very affordable (cheapest I've found in cape town) and tasty. The ambiance isn't super trendy but its nice. The service could be better.
I would recommend this to anyone who's in town looking to feast on a lot of sushi and not break the bank.

I really felt like sushi and decided Blue Marlin was the closest to me.
The sushi is surprisingly good, the fish is fresh and doesn’t taste previously frozen. Non stringy salmon here. There wasn’t anything I had on my platters I didn’t enjoy. The rice was cooked well and the avo soft and buttery.
I was surprised that overall score for this place seemed seriously low for what I experienced. My sushi was out in a flash and although the decor isn’t as trendy as other places it doesn’t affect the sushi. If you want decent sushi at a decent price this would be that place. I’m happy to comeback and my sushi fix here anytime.
NOTE: the food is amazing and 100% worth it; the 3.5 rating is just an overall reflection of the restaurant. This place looks like a dive, but it has some of the cheapest and best sushi in the southern suburbs. It's significantly cheaper than other sushi places like Nuri. The selection of sushi is pretty decent, and it's always been delicious (never had food poisoning or any adverse reactions from eating here). Generous portion sizes too. The service is very much subpar, the tables often need wiping and the bathroom is pretty awful, but I'm happy to deal with that for such good sushi prices.
My favourite sushi place. They have a great relaxing vibe and the service is always good and friendly. The food is really good and always fresh but the handrolls is by far the best. I always go with a friend for all you can eat cause who wouldn't want unlimited handrolls! I love Blue Marlin a lot. Thanks for your outstanding food and service guys!
Food was amazing, very reasonable pricing. Only hitch was the fact that that we couldn't pay with card. But otherwise, the experience was super enjoyable!
Well priced and decent quality. Usually enjoyed via take-away at my own place. Don't expect Willoughby quality when you pay Obz prices. Perfectly acceptable sushi.
I've been there a couple of times and so far I've enjoyed their salmon roses the most. The restaurant is also a bit intimate and cosy which is a nice vibe. Best sushi prices in Cape Town, however the service is kind of slow. They only have 2/3 waiters i think so best to go on a chilled day
I honestly enjoy this place emmensely. And prefer to come here for their sushi specials. Had a lovely waiter this evening. We have had evenings where the service wasn't exceptional. But I do believe it's because their max waiters is two, possibly three. Still enjoy this place and will still be coming for their sushi in the future.

Blue Marlin sushi is brilliant. Some of the best I've had. I honestly can't get enough which is where the problem comes. Their service is extremely slow and if you're having the buffet they often forget some of the sushi you've ordered. The atmosphere is basic and reminds you of a pub more than a restaurant and from outside it looks a bit like a dive. Despite that, I keep going back for the sushi and can't come to cape town without visiting the blue Marlin.
The sushi is really fresh and delicious. The prices are good and the waiters are friendly. The restaurant however doesn't have great ventilation, It's hot and stuffy and the smell of deep fried food filled the air toward the end of the evening. Other than that, it's really worth checking out.
First time experiencing the restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the sushi was, especially when looking at the surrounding places. The service was slow and towards the end the smell of deep fried food did become too much but overall it's definitely worth checking out. Will be back.

Blue Marlin is a great spot if you like all you can eat. They offer a fantastic R129 special where you can have sushi and Chinese food. This is great as you get a fantastic variety.
I also love that they include crumbed calamari as part of the special. Presentation is good and the food is tasty.
Area is not ideal but you'll love your visit so much you'll be back again and again.
Have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Generous amounts of fish in the sushi, great variety in the menu. Look past the location, be prepared to be patient. Incredibly good value for money. Try anything that contains their crispy tuna
As a student I'm most of the time on a huge budget. Their sushi i believe is the best and affordable. I love their buffet. Blue marlin is my all time favourite sushi restaurant!
Now I have heard of this place for a long time now and today I finally got the chance to come try it. I would consider myself a sushi addict and every week I go try out a new place for sushi. The sushi here was very delightful and good affordable prices. I will definitely be back here for more.

I love sushi! And what I've learned over the past couple of years is that the best sushi places are in the dodgiest neighbourhoods, i.e. Observatory. It really is good especially the deep fried tempura #yum.
They could work on their service though..

Ok. I'm going to admit it. I was sceptical at first. Sushi. Lower Obs. Ok, I was helluva sceptical!
But this #HiddenGem soon revealed it's beauty (and specials) to me as time went by. It doesn't look like much from outside and it has a general bar feel about it, yet very relaxed and super vibey when it gets busy. Let's be real, we associate good sushi with an upmarket area and an upmarket style but I'll let you in on a secret - they serve darn good sushi!
The sushi is so fresh and the menu is so huge with a crazy amount of specials. Well, it all seems like a special to me! Like 22 pieces for R99? Yes please, and thank you! They also serve fried sushi. I'm not a fan but so glad I've tried it. The service is swift and they're always accommodating. Takeaways are prepared in a jiffy too.
I haven't tried the the Chinese food menu yet. But there are crazy specials in that department too. And oh, they have dope blue lights too...definitely adds to the name!
It doesn't look like much from outside but the sushi is great and the spring rolls are even better... Great buffet. Go there when you are hungry!
Good Sushi at a very reasonable price. The kitchen is a bit slow in getting the food out, especially if you order the buffet.
I find tht a 24 piece platter fills me up just a well as if i ordered the buffet. Only difference is, the non buffet customers get their food much faster.
Whenever I think of where I can good sushi platters that are priced well I come here! This is my spot for sushi and will forever be my go to place. Don't think fancy, think what can I get for good value
Blue Marlin has plenty of space for big groups but beware of the restaurant being too busy or it getting later than 8pm - food will slowly come out of the kitchen. I do enjoy their sushi buffet but there are better options. What do I like are their generous sized portions of Chinese food like the chow mein. Probably the best value Chinese meals around. And delicious too.
This place warmed the cockles of my sushi loving heart.
The service was a bit slow, but then again it was a Friday night that we went. The food was delicious though, and very well priced.

I'd go here everyday if I could but parking in lower main puts me off. The cash only option doesn't phase me too much. It actually makes you watch what you eat.

I was told by a friend that Blue Marlin is her favourite sushi restaurant in town and I simply had to try it. So tonight I gathered a group of friends and we decided to try it out.
We made a reservation and when we arrived there were signs saying cash only, no cards accepted. We were not told this when calling ahead to make the booking, which was a bit annoying but didn't take too much away from the experience.
When we arrived the restaurant was very quiet, we were given menus and told we could have anything on the sushi menu except for salmon roses and sashimi as part of the all you can eat buffet. So everyone worked out what they would be having only to then be told by the same waiter that half the food they wanted was not on the buffet menu which he would need to show us.
The service was actually disgusting. After 3 hours, we still hadn't gotten all our food so we just left without getting it. We had to keep reordering things because they never came out and the waiter was really slow to bring even our drinks out.
We were given almost pea sized amounts of wasabi and had to ask 4 times for more. I paid R129 for my sushi but really only ate about R60 worth because the rest just never came out. I think that's how the trick you into not ordering too much, they just don't send any food out.
So overall, service was horrible, atmosphere wasn't great and very hot inside, food was pretty average, if not below average as the rice was not proper sushi rice and all of the sushi was warm. There are also no descriptions on the menu so some things were very weird variations of classic sushi like the tempura prawn rolls having red peppers in. And lastly the value for money can be good but definitely not for the buffet, they do have some nicely priced platters though that might be worth a try.
I definitely have no inclination whatsoever to ever return.
Good sushi at a good price. We first visited for my son's birthday and since then have been ordering take away sushi from there. We like their combo's as well as the standard menu items. As parking is an issue in the area, I phone in my order and when I arrive there I hoot outside and the waiter brings my order. They have recently replaced their furniture so it definitely looks a lot better. They only accept cash.
Their sushi is very very good, their platters are reasonable and the portions are satisfactory. We went at night and the lightning is not good, I’d suggest you go there during daylight. Not a fan of their presentation tho.
Ordered on Uber Eats and it was quite good! Great portion sizes and I appreciated that they included more than enough wasabi and soy sauce. Only criticisms are that the sushi was a unstable and fell apart easily, and it took an hour to come.
The sushi is the reason I give this place a high rating. It is really good quality and well portioned at an absolutely amazing price.
Their vegetarian platters are absolutely amazing.
My favourite is the Rena Special, it is exactly my type of platter.
The restaurant itself is a little dark so if you can I recommend sitting at a table by the window.
While I was there the service was a bit slow but I am sure this is not the case most of the time. But I will definitely be back there soon!
Amazing food and services, the 2 waitstaff on duty was just being kept very busy with take out orders, but they are very friendly and helpful.
I went there a few months ago. The food was very affordable. I have had sushi that was better if i paid really high prices, but this was definite value for money and I would eat there anytime. The spring rolls were amazing. And there drinks are great, including the mojo jar and milkshakes.
Great sushi at affordable prices with a huge selection. The chines food is also great. Service is a tad slow but if you not in a rush worth the wait.
This restaurant has great Asian/Thai food. The place attracts students mainly due to their low prices and big portions. I highly recommend them.

The food was delicious, we ate so much! I dont eat sushi and my options were definitely too many! The waitors dont fully understand you, but we had no problems, just more explaining to do. The restrooms are a bit creepy, but survived. My husband and friends had sushi, they were satisfied with the prices and how it was prepared.
Also they have great specials on the black board outside, check it out!
This restaurant has been my family's go to for birthday dinners and special occasions for years! We took a little break since covid but recently went back and were so impressed with the food and service!!! The portion sizes are great value for money and the sushi is so fresh! We can't wait to start implementing the blue marlin back into our special occasion dinners!
I have been eating here for years and this restaurant has amazing sushi and asian food!! Their Poke bowls are also delicious! Their food is well priced and they have good portions. Run by a very sweet family, with friendly, capable staff I would recommend any day for takeaway and sit down any day!
order anything except the chicken chow mein seems like the soy sauce has more water in it than the soy sauce
Good food, good service, not much of an atmosphere... Maybe we were too early and on a weekday. Love their Sushi and great prices. Must make another visit
