Good setting for this pub styled restaurant, overlooking the Riverside golf course with nice spacious indoor and outdoor area. My family and I got there for brunch and the place really was at it's peak during lunch on a Sunday. Food was delicious with huge portions, was full after just having the starter platter. Service slowed during peak as if the staff were a bit overwhelmed, however our waitress remained friendly and attentive. Their iced coffee was one of the best I've tried.

Our August lunch was had at the Slug and Lettuce situated in the River Club.. As it was a lovely warm day we sat outside. JT decided to have the Dagwood Burger with his Castle draft while CH had a Caslte Lite draft with his fillet steak roll and I had a Black Label with my fillet steak roll.
JT's ordered his burger rare to medium. It was cooked to perfection. The fillet steak rolls that CH and I had were also cooked to perfection. The fillet was tender, the chips were criispy, as was the lettuce and the toasted cibata. Both CH and I will recommend it to any going there.
All in all a very enjoyable lunch was had. and it's a venue we will definitely visit again.
Popped in after work this evening to hit the driving range with friends. Shared the ribs and jalapeño poppers to start and a pizza for mains with our group. All were delicious and the ribs in particular were incredibly tender. I wish my pizza had been a little warmer but it was also very tasty.
Great location for a pub style meal especially after a round of golf. I opted for the tapas, as I prefer nibbles. I chose the chicken strips with aioli as well as the calamari. I found the calamari to be slightly oily but the chicken strips to be light and crispy. My brother had the beef burger, which was a decent portion and well cooked. Pity the service is abit slow and it does get quite noisy.
This place is situated in a great location, very central with a good scenery.
I ordered a pizza as it was the easiest to eat and we didn't have much time, I must say their meals are well presented from what I could see.
The pizza was great, they were not shy with their toppings at all and their vegetables were amazing and fresh.
Listen the slug and lettuce is always a lekker choice. With consistent good pizza and burgers. But this one does tend to become quite golfer busy and noisy. The service can become slow and food lose it's zest. But that happens very little.
Been to this S&L once. It was super busy at it was lunch time. I had a milkshake and a margarita pizza. Both were good, I enjoyed the pizza as it had a nice thin crisp base. Service was quite slow though.
Go there on Tuesday for the pizza special. If not just get the slug selection (I think it's called), where you combine four pizza's to make one.
The Figaro pizza is really something - it's technically vegetarian as well.
Stopped here waiting for a work function to kick off so my mates and I in true fashion had a couple of froffies to get the taste buds going. The service is a bit weird, more chaotic to say the least. Ended up getting a beer we didn't order on our tab which bit annoying but was cleared up.
Good food, drinks and service, but at a strange venue overlooking a golf driving range...(unless you are a golfer) That said, there is a car wash adjacent so you can wash and chow at the same time!
Had a great time at slug and lettuce, our lunch was amazing. I had the beef burger with fries. Their service was fast and efficient, waiters are friendly. I'll definitely return in future. Thanks
Had a fabulous late afternoon lunch with 40 ladies after talking golf lesson with 4 strapping young gentlemen. What a spectacular afternoon!
Even managed my first hole in one - yippee! I have new respect for pro golfers...
We had chicken burgers, meat burgers, chicken wraps & veggie wraps. All meals were delicious and accompanied by enormous chips. The onion rings are absolutely scrumptious and simply have to be ordered on the side.
Awesome afternoon !
Had dinner with friends in the bar area and it was good.
I had the nacho's and my Mr had the burger.
Food didn't take long and the waiter was friendly.
At around 20h30 the music was turned up significantly
so it was a bit difficult to talk after that.
Prices are slightly above average, but nice night out.
Went to this establishment with friends and family. Really friendly service from Xoliswa.
The steak roll was top notch, melt in you mouth quality. Better than a lot of grill houses, we've been to. Crunchy chips, tasty chili sauce. Others in the group had Dagwood burgers, which they really enjoyed. Chicken mayo, with three slices of bread were a bit on the heavy side for those wanting to cut down😊. All in all a satisfying experience. We will be back.
Had a good time with friends. My steak was absolutely amazing. The basting sauce was soooo good. Portions were quite big. Our waitress Kirsten was great! She took all our orders without writing them down and got nothing wrong! We sat outside on the deck and it was perfect. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back again.

Had a relatively good time here. Not sure why there are so many bad ratings. Perfect to just chill, sip on sundowners and watch the pros take a few swings. The pizza was really good. My coffee wasnt too bad.
This is a great place to grab a drink after taking a few swings of the gold clubs. Otherwise, it can be quite dead during the day. The monthly comedy gigs on the first Thursday of every month are great fun, though, and generally draw a good crowd. The appetizer menu is extensive and boasts great prices. The wine may look a bit pricey, but you do get huge glasses, so it is definitely worth it!
Stopped here in a Friday after work for a gettogether with friends..i must say the outside seating area is the best spot! I'm not a huge fan of the inside bar area as it is quite noisy and pubby. It didnt start out great as they lost our booking but made a plan for us.
Our waiter was great, very on the ball even though it was busy.
You can definitely find something on the menu for you, they have a good variety! It may not be haute cuisine, but good pub food. I opted for the mexican pizza, but others had burgers and fish and chips which I'd definitely have next time.
Keep a look out for their everchanging specials, as well as happy hour Mon-Fri.
We picked a real rainy morning to go for breakfast. We had the beef burgers which was good. Excellent potatoe wedges. Service was good. The restaurant is huge and we prefer cosy - The Slug and Lettuce in Newlands is more to our liking. Perhaps on a nice summer day the outside seating might be better. I would say avoid rainy days as the Riverclub parking does get flooded. All round we stil enjoyed our brunch. We liked that they didn't stick rigidly to a breakfast menu so we could have burgers at 11 :00.
The river club and restaurant inside - slug and lettuce have really upped their game over the past year or so. They have done an extensive refurbishment and are all the better for it. We often go to watch the rugby, and while bookings are necessary for these kind of events, they are quick and efficient and manage the crowds well. Their foid is also good quality pub food and their drinks list covers all the bases.
Great place to socialize
Whether you're with your partner or a small group, the food is great as well as the service,
Staff are friendly and very welcoming
Love the live comedy shows they have from time to time
I keep going back , I enjoy the atmosphere
Do yourself a favour and try the mussel pot. There was a nice dose of lemon in the sauce which balanced out the richness. After my friends devoured their burgers they asked for extra bread and helped me clear out the sauce. Not that I asked for their help but after the taste I gave them earlier, they insisted. The deco is err, interesting... But hey, when you're neck deep in delicious meaty mussels, with a nice cool mojito keeping your buzz alive and in good company you don't sweat the small stuff.
Let's get the important things out the way - the food was delicious. Seriously, the basting on the steak had me using my chips to wipe up every last bit of it. All of the meals that we ordered were really very good and reasonably well priced.
The problem for me is that even though it was newly renovated, I felt like the decor was really dated and it definitely has a sports bar vibe to it, which is cool if you're into that. But I'm so not.
This is a fantastic place to come when your significant other is playing a round of golf! It's always a good time and their food is delicious. I had their grande pizza and it was super tasty!
Very nice cosy pub feel to it and the food was superb. I had a beef burger - only problem is that the portions are a bit small. There was great live music when we visited which was a nice touch. Great kids play area on site too. Will be back.
…………………As February is the month of love we received an invitation to breakfast as a token of “Sharing the Love” but the venue remained a secret! We were very much pleasant-lii surprised when we arrived at the gates of The River Club one of the oldest well renowned social institutes in Cape Town really not a place where we ever would be found hanging-out so the Slug & Lettuce is true-lii a total-lii new discovery in our books indeed a welcoming escapade for a surprise! On our arrival the parking area was full already so one immediate-lii think the place is full but we didn’t know that the restaurant is located right on the “Golf Driving Range” and that’s where most of the people were and also used the out-side seating enjoying pizzas & refreshments although it been a rather windy day! The restaurant is massive it has seating out-side with lots of picnic-bench type of tables with umbrellas, inside the place is divided into large rooms with different type is seating and tables! The one section in which we were seated was obvious the main restaurant, nothing posh or fancii just basic tables and chairs many plastic chairs even and the room adjacent to our had high-bar stools with high pedestal round-tables the colour scheme been red and black matching in nice-lii with reddish walls. The walls are decorated with lots of thought provoking block-mountings and many photographs of golfers of different eras! Above on the ceilings they have nice big cloth lamp-shades in magenta! Our waitron Lindsay was very efficient, friend-lii and real-lii treated us well! We started off with cappuccinos (unfortunate-lii they don’t do them with cream) but they were froth-ii and hot! The breakfast menu is very basic Bacon & eggs and you can add on sausage, mushrooms, onions, etc, etc and even get divine restaurant-cut potato-chips served with a nice cream-ii mayo! The 3 egg omelette is a real mean meal and comes basic-lii with onions and cheese and again you can choose what else to include such as bacon, mushrooms, smoked salmon, etc, etc. So our choices were Poached eggs, bacon and sausage and also the mean 3 egg basic-omelette with smoked salmon and mushrooms and here they ever threw in a salad! Shoo a true king-size meal! Our meals were filling and very fresh and delicious and to think that the total bill was just under R300.00 for three people enjoying full breakfasts! We enjoyed our visit here as the restaurant was emptii because they don’t take reservations we came earl-ii as our host thought it was going to be full been a social/country club and also it been Sunday when most people are off work and out and about! Worthy of mentioning is the fact the right next door even with an access door is a snazz-ii posh Bar with its own picnic type tables with benches making it into a snack-bar where there is a Pizza-oven and counter to purchase and they also have waiting staff serving the golfers practicing out-side! Never before have we seen a bar with copper beer-tanks which even displays the dates when the Newlands Brewery Co came to deliver and filled the tanks! (As they display that the Beer is Brewery-Fresh!) As this place is basic-lii a country club there are many more facilities and activities to indulge in but I’m sure you have to be a member to participate in the club activities! The gardens and surroundings are very well maintained! To find out more of this new found gem we are going to investigate and research what else there is to be found here at The River Club and its surroundings!....................
Well if you looking for fun and chilling out with friends or family this is a super cool spot and entertainment aswell as a round of golf and the freshest Castle Tank Beer available and not too mention the great delicious food and friendly helping staff at your service .

Definitely one of my favourite places, great burgers, milkshakes, beer, and more with a awesome energy, specifically lunch on a Friday. The staff are friendly and efficient. The benchs outside could use some tlc as they are really wobbly. The place is wheelchair accessible and there is free parking in front.
Tappas were quite good, reasonable pricing and golf driving range is open quite late which is great, atmosphere depends on the crowd.
Nice place to be very good food and drinks
Amazing venue. Driving range has a VIP section for when you famous and Slug has award winning burgers. Its a win-win
Always enjoy eating here. The prices have gone up a fair amount ( guess costs have escalated) but they are, in my opinion slightly higher than similar eateries. Service was good. Chilly day so we sat inside and a nearby table of eight was very jovial - so it was rather noisy. At times we could not hear each other. The Steelworks was delish. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food as well ( so much so I forgot to take photos) - from burger to schnitzel to fish and chips.
It was a gorgeous day blessed by GOD as we celebrated Fathers day with all our children and grandchildren. Yes we had to wait for our food, but we had anticipated this...and so we enjoyed each others company. The food was excellent and worth the wait . Our waitron was excellent serving 10 adults and 6 kids.
Great baskets!! Always a cool vibe at this branch & a thoroughly enjoyable night out. The service was very 'slug'ish though which robbed you of the 5th star. It is strange that we could walk up to the bar & order a drink & be well into them before the waitress delivered the same order to the table. Even had to look for her to pay the bill. Otherwise a good night out.
Well, it was an event. The main atrraction wasn't good but the place and staff were amazing.
There sea food plater was good just the prawns was over grilled
The name of the restaurant has been changed to Players.
The mussle pot and chocochino was scrumptious.
A little bit noisy due to all the sport happening (showing on TV screens) but still an enjoyable evening.
Good, quick service.
Great service and a decent menu to boot. Awesome little half way house if you're planning on playing the 9-hole mashie course twice. Can get a bit pricey, but I've always had a good time here.
Plenty of flat screens around to watch sports and ample seating in smoking, non-smoking and outside sections.
Best thing the River Club did was upgrade this to a Slug and Lettuce.
